Juno!!
never seen | want to see | the worst | bad | whatever | not my thing | good | great | favorite | masterpiece
I actually get a little defensive when it comes to Juno, because I think the flack Diablo Cody got after the movie was unwarranted. She's a great writer and this swell of shitty backlash against her, to me, felt like a byproduct of her a) being a woman, b) having been a sex worker, and c) the fact that women have always been at the heart of the stories she's told, from Juno to Jennifer's Body to United States of Tara to One Mississippi.
That's not to say I think she's a perfect screenwriter undeserving of criticism, because I think there are plenty of genuine criticisms to be made of her work, particularly around white feminism and pacing issues, but I think a lot of the criticism was about discrediting her as a writer at all, particularly in the sort of meme-ification of her dialogue.
Juno deserved every accolade it got at the time, and I begrudge the revisionist history of it. It's a good movie. It's not anti-choice, because Juno comes close to getting an abortion and just decides it's not what she, herself, wants; it's sharp and compelling, and the late act solidarity between Juno and Jennifer Garner's Vanessa is a moment I really, really love.
It's a messy, imperfect, complicated film, but it's also one I hold a lot of affection for, in no small part because I was about 16 when it came out, and I remember seeing it at the cinema and just knowing, for one of the first times in my life, that a woman wrote it, and that meant a lot to me at the time.

Do you have any voice ‘headcannons’(?) for the characters? If so who are they/what do they sound like?
Not really, but I'll think up some random combos now. I'd like these if I had to 'hear' voices... P much a casting in my head if this was hollywood, for any i can think of, fuuun lil exercise: Phonegingi: Steve Buscemi. (ok) Randy: Justin Roiland, probably. Tom Kenny'd also nail it. Karen: Rhea Seehorn. (She'd nail it.) Oliver: Young Keanu Reeves (aka Ted Logan from Bill and Ted. Woah.) Maybe Andy Samberg if it has to be someone present. Bigfoot: Seth Rogen (still just making the ape noises) Norm: This one is really hard because he HAS a voice in-game. Alright, say I have to pick a new one... No idea. Clint Eastwood would be great, but he's a prune now, in fairness. OH NO, JONATHAN BANKS. Yeah, wow. Him. Please. Jerry: Would be funny if he was british and thus, Tim Roth. If not, ohhh, I don't know. Jason Bateman would be good. Maybe Patrick Warburton- Mr Dickens: Playing with fire here, but John Cleese. Really, any of the Pythons would work. Or Steven Fry, actually- Nathan: Probably Tim Roth. Or Adrian Edmondson. God: Bob Odenkirk. Please GOD. Mark Hamill would also be amazing lmao Stromboli: Danny Devito (duh!) Abel: Michael McKean doing the Chuck voice from Better Call Saul. Yeah, really. Callum: No idea. It's hard, again, because I HAVE a voice for him. You'd need someone... energetic. Tell ya what, why don't you guys reply or reblog and tell me who you'd cast as Norm + Callum if they had to be recast with any actor you wanted? :)

Frisky Dingo #1: “Meet Killface” | October 16, 2006 – 12:30AM | S01E01
Welcome to the first episode of Meet Killface! AKA Adam Reed's got something to prove.
Frisky Dingo was Matt Thompson and Adam Reed's follow-up to Sealab 2021. Sealab 2021 began life as “one of the good ones”, quickly got AWFUL (it was way before Capt. Murphy died, you philistines), then, and I don't think this is hyperbole, it became one of the worst TV series of all time. Then there was a LITTLE BIT of an uptick towards the end. A friend of mine noted in the mailbag that the transformation of Debbie, a shallow young woman who was traditionally the a vehicle for slut jokes, seems to have transformed thanks to Arrested Development’s influence; in the final season she became a born-again Christian and little bit of a Lindsay Bluth type trying to do misguided do-gooder things.
This episode starts off the same way the promos did: a brief clip of the Sealab 2021 opening becomes staticky and then fades into a close-up of Killface, a scary muscular alien type guy. He has a deep voice and a British accent. He is unmistakably a villain, but to make it 100% clear he lays out his plan to the viewing public: he's built a gigantic jet propulsion system designed to jettison the entire planet Earth directly into the Sun, destroying everyone and everything. I don't believe there's a ransom or anything like that involved. This message is simply to tell all of America that the world will soon be engulfed by the sun's flames.
The message ends with a lingering awkward silence and we pull out to reveal that he has a video crew; a pair of twins voiced by Brendon Small (credited as Donald Cock, the name of his doctor character from Squidbillies). He also has a female assistant who is terrified of Killface after he murders one of the twins by shooting him in half with some alien weapon. They argue about marketing and Killface's ability to reach a mass audience. They argue about the feasibility of getting his message to air on every channel at once, the price per unit on a DVD mailing campaign, and other, uh, stuff. It's sorta like Tim & Eric in that corporate speak is sorta lampooned. But there's more violence in this than in Tim & Eric. We also introduce Killface's son Simon, who’s rebellious and has emotional issues probably due to Killface's coddling. He's not nearly as intimidating as his father, but he's the only one that can stand up to him without being gored to death.
I always considered this first episode to be a little weak, and I think a lot of Frisky Dingo is weak, but I remember the series as a whole winning me over towards the end. Then it was done, and my goodwill just sorta had to evaporate into the ether. I guess I should've started watching Archer after that. Whoops. The main problem for me is that this show is WAY WAY WAY self-consciously trying to be intelligent. Gone are the “who gives a fuck” bad jokes of Sealab 2021. Make no mistake, Adam Reed and Matt Thompson must've looked at Sealab 2021 and pondered their own legacy and thought “we should maybe try to make something that isn't terrible”. So they made this show which is a little bit Tom Goes to the Mayor mixed with Arrested Development with the visual flair of Get Your War On.
Hell, the Arrested Development thing is inescapable. There's a part where Killface tells his son that they will never move back to Arizona. There were entire story-arcs built around Jason Bateman threatening to move to Arizona with his son. It's functionally the same joke, and the humor comes from the exact same place on both shows. I wonder if there will be more flagrant examples as the series goes on...
I don't think I’ve ever rewatched this show at all, really. I watched every episode when it came out, that's for sure. But I was never in love with it; it was merely good enough to watch once. I DID buy the DVDs for the sake of being an Adult Swim completist, but the lack of extras caused me to not even see what the menus looked like until this recent watch. They're okay, I guess. It's just like, big pictures of the guys in the show.
The only personal anecdote I have of substance regarding this show: one time I was showing Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! to a group of friends and it was going pretty well. There was one guy who I won't name but I'll call him Harrison Stink. He was previously a shy unassuming guy who at that point in time was turning into a clout-chasing snot-nosed monster. He covered his body in awful tattoos and became a male model and eventually appeared in the “LOOK AT THIS FUCKING HIPSTER” book. This was back when Hipster meant one very specific thing, which was that you were a selfish, immature young man who made bad fashion choices in a smug way and propped up other shitheads who dressed like you as though were the most precious people on Earth. There was a female equivalent to this but they were not hipsters at all, they were just INSANELY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. I know that sounds sexist, but to be fair I am sexist.
Anyway, this guy's default mode was to shit on everything unless he saw an opportunistic angle to liking it. One time he was offered a spot in a band just doing like handclaps (he did not play an instrument and they’d recorded a few songs with him for fun) and he acted like the whole thing was beneath him and turned it down. When the band started getting successful he suddenly was like “hey are you still needing a handclap guy?”
When he saw Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! He immediately turned his nose up at it. If you are uninitiated: Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! actually has a GREAT reputation as a COOL GUY CULT MOVIE, and it was unmistakable to me that he had no concept of this; because if he did he absolutely would've acted like he'd seen it already and that it was his favorite movie. He was embarrassing himself on two separate levels.
But he didn't just turn his nose up at it: he defiantly sat in the room with a bunch of guys all laughing and cheering and having a great time and decided to shit on it humorlessly, just moaning “this sucks. We should watch something else” while everyone shouted him down. He wasn't even watching it, really, he was actually watching something else on his computer with headphones and would just periodically look up from his screen to torment us.
He was watching Frisky Dingo.
MAIL BAG
My write-up sure ended apruptly huh? Seems like another paragraph or two should’ve followed it, wrapping up my thoughts in a more definitive way? Fuck all that shit, here is Kon who is never wrong:
Ah… can't believe we're already up to Frisky Dingo…
I went into Frisky Dingo absolutely determined to hate it because of how much I hated the last half of Sealab. I just refused to believe it could be good. But also, my expectations for Frisky Dingo were so rock-bottom low that the show couldn't help surpass them. Like I was literally expecting Frisky Dingo to be 11 minutes a week of a Penny Arcade-esque Adam Reed analogue character looking at the screen and ranting about how unfair the critics are to him, calling out specific message board posters by username, etc. The idea of the show having settings, characters, jokes, even basic elements of storytelling, didn't even occur to me. When I saw it, I was genuinely astonished that it actually had any aspirations whatsoever to entertain, instead of being a completely self-indulgent wank. So, I simultaneously underrated Frisky Dingo because of Sealab's baggage, AND overrated it for actually being an actual show. I have no idea how I did that but in the fall of 2006 I somehow did.
So in conclusion that is why Frisky Dingo is a pretty alright show sometimes. The end.

the hogan family, originally titled “valerie” before the title character was killed off at the start of its third season in 1988, was an american sitcom starring jason bateman that revolved around three teenage brothers who were being raised in oak park, illinois by their airline pilot father and their paternal aunt.
like most television sitcoms of the time, the hogan family tackled social issues such as HIV/AIDS to educate and raise awareness. while some “very special episodes” of sitcoms bordered on cautionary tale or very moralistic tropes, the hogan family’s “very special” AIDS episode managed to balance both.
the “best of friends, worst of times” episode aired on world AIDS day, december 1, 1990. the plot follows david, portrayed by jason bateman, as he films a documentary at a hospital for a school project. he then runs into his best friend rich. after exchanging hugs and pleasantries, rich quickly returns to his room. it is then that david finds out that rich is battling AIDS.
vimeo
david struggles to come to terms with the information that rich is dying from AIDS complications. upon returning home and he shares the news with his aunt sandy who offers to accompany him to hospital to visit rich. but david is polarized by shock and fear.
recognizing the confusion and polarizing fear david is experiencing, sandy discloses how she once allowed fear and paranoia prevent her from showing up for a friend who dying of AIDS complications. she then urges david to visit rich.
the episode concludes with david speaking at a high school assembly on HIV/AIDS. david shared how he worked through fear and preconceived notions about HIV by educating himself. david also dispels myths about HIV and informs students about the importance of safer sex.
in the most touching moment of the episode, david breaks the news that rich died the night before. through tears, david eulogizes rich, the friend that changed his life.
Tumblr media
“best of friends, worst of times” didn’t necessarily break new ground in its storytelling. the show doesn’t explicitly disclose how rich contracted HIV, but it also did not reinforce the “innocent person” blood transfusion trope. the episode was one of the very few shows to utilize a recurring character as the person with AIDS.  this was in large part to actor tom hodges, who reprised his role as rich after a year-long absence and co-wrote the episode to provide the character closure.
the show’s closing credits didn’t use the show’s theme incorporated dionne warwick’s AIDS charity single “that’s what friends are for” as clips of david and rich are shown. interestingly, the song was named billboard’s #1 of 1986, the same year the hogan family (aka “valerie”) made its debut. “best of friends, worst of times” was the last episode to air before CBS canceled the show and burned off the remaining four episodes seven months later.
the hogan family may not be one of the most memorable sitcoms of the 1980s as it didn’t include catchphrases that became part of the American lexicon but it does hold the distinction of being the first sitcom to mention the word “condom” in an episode. and this was in 1987. so kudos to the show.

Hq boys as killers from slasher/horror movies <3
note: I just did the ones that I could find a direct relationship with the character or I could see the boys doing such things, also, take this as a horror movies recommendation lol
Bokuto Kōtarō ➜ Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th, 1980) Beefy boi who loves his mother and will do everything she says.
Tendō Satori ➜ Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 1974) Childhood trauma and a dysfuncional family made him lost his mind.
Yaku Morisuke ➜ Chucky (Child's Play, 1988) Small, evil and ready to kill.
Iwaizumi Hajime ➜ Ash Williams (Evil Dead, 1981) Not exactly a bad guy, but will definitely fight spirits and demons to save those who loves, even if it means having to replace his arm with a chainsaw.
Suna Rintarō and Atsumu Miya ➜ Ghostface (Scream, 1996) Partners in crime, killing and sowing terror for the laughs, just guy being dudes. (If u saw the movie u kno why I put two)
Aone Takanobu ➜ Michael Myers (Halloween, 1978) Another beefy boi, doesn't know how to open doors so he just goes right through them, will stare stalk you from the distance in silence, never speaks.
Kuroo Tetsurō ➜ Seth Brundle (The Fly, 1986) A brilliant but eccentric scientist begins to transform into a giant fly after something goes wrong with an experiment. (This movie can be GROSS so watch it with caution)
Daichi Sawamura ➜ Maniac Cop (Maniac Cop, 1988) Nothing much to say here, just a dead cop killing random people because he can.
Goshiki Tsutomu ➜ The Boyfriend (Graduation Day, 1981) You killed my girlfriend and now I kill you. Very sweet of him if you ask me.
Shirabu Kenjirō ➜ The Surgeon (Hospital Massacre, 1981) You broke his heart, didn't like it, now he has to kill you. (Resentful mf)
Yamaguchi Tadashi ➜ Angela (Sleepaway Camp, 1983) An insane criminal wanders the rooms and showers of a strict summer camp. (I don't want to spoil it so much, just watch it)
Sakusa Kiyoomi ➜ Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984) Kills inside dreams so he doesn't get dirty, that's it.
Shigeru Yahaba ➜ Norman Bates (Psycho, 1960) A momma's boy with an Oedipus complex and a taxidermy collection is scary enough without the body count. (Everytime I look at him I see the word "MOMMY" idk)
Akaashi Keiji ➜ Jack Torrance (The Shinning, 1980) Your average writer. Accepts a job on a hotel in hopes of getting over his writer block. Not having any kind of inspiration, makes everything go downhill.
Kita Shinsuke ➜ Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal, 2001/Hannibal (tv series) 2013) more the series tbh WITHOUT THE CANNIBALISM okay. A cultured, refined man with exquisite manners and good behavior, as well as a lover of art, classical music and good cuisine. But what manifests in more private instances is a cynical, manipulative behavior with a certain tendency to punish with varying severity what he considers "bad manners." (Ngl, I'd let him manipulate me)
Kyōtani Kentaro ➜ Ben Willis AKA The Hook Killer (I Know What You Did Last Summer, 1997) Some teens killed him and left without saying anything? Bitch, you better bet he will hunt them down.
Hanamaki Takahiro ➜ Candyman (Candyman, 1992) The classic urban legend that has terrified kids. Metaphors for urban decay and civil unrest surround this unsettling story. (he probably be like "ay, u called, ready to die? 🤙🏻")
Daishō Suguru ➜ Pinhead (Hellraiser, 1987) Intelligent, and bone-chilling. A charismatic and eloquent leader with compassion for his men. After suffering a mental breakdown, however, he lost faith in the human race. He’s terrifying because he’s fully aware of what he’s doing. (There aren't many deaths in the movie, but the few there are are very bloody, so if gore is not your thing don't watch it)
Oikawa Tōru ➜ Patrick Bateman (American Psycho, 2000) A successful man obsessed with competition and perfection, who uses the most expensive men's cosmetics, gymnastic equipment, solarium and other aesthetic machinery to achieve an athletic and well-groomed body, a material identifier of social success.
Ushijima Wakatoshi ➜ Anton Chigurh (No Country For Old Men, 2007) I know is not a horror movie or a slasher, but it still pretty good Kills without compassion or remorse, but always with deliberation. He has his own set of morals, however twisted they may be. While he does not kill at random or without purpose, his reasons are at times abstract.

Random Thoughts on This Is Where I Leave You (2014)
Warning: A tad spoiler-y
I don’t pay money to rent movies often, but when I do - they usually star Adam Driver.
Just heads up, this is more drama than comedy. Four siblings whose father just passed are emotionally manipulated by their mother to sit shiva for 7 days...and cue the drama...
This is rated R so be prepared for some raunch.
This cast is stacked (Jason Bateman, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Tina Fey, Ben Schwartz aka Jean Ralphio, Adam Driver - although he was a bit of an unknown outside of Girls at this time).
Things I Loved:
The sibling rivalry of it all - the fight scenes were just done so well. In particular, I loved when Paul (the older brother) and Phillip (younger brother aka Adam Driver) were arguing about the family business and things turned ugly real quick.
Tumblr media
“Why don’t you come over here and say that to me?” “Here I come.” Proceeds to walk over.
The more I watch AD’s scenes the more I notice how nuanced they are. His scenes always get better on multiple viewings. There’s a moment when he’s arguing with his brothers but he throws a soft glance at his girlfriend.
Tumblr media
Ben Schwartz as the priest with a hilarious nickname that’s a running gag through the whole film (which I’ll leave for you to discover) was brilliantly cast.
Another running gag I loved was the toddler who dragged his potty chair to poop in the most scenic of spots.
The older brother Paul was great. I loved how Phillip always tried to rile him up. And he responded each time. Phillip and Paul’s relationship was my favorite of the siblings.
Tumblr media
Things I Didn’t Love So Much:
I’m a big fan of Jason Bateman but I was not feeling his romantic storyline. If that part had been cut - I wouldn’t have been too mad. Also, I felt he had more chemistry with his cheating wife than the new girl. So there’s that. 🤷🏻‍♀️
This movie felt simultaneously too long and too short. Too long because of the boring romance and too short because there weren’t enough sibling moments.
Not enough time on the other siblings. Their drama was told rather than shown. In particular, I would have loved to see more of Wendy and her old bf interactions as well as Phillip and his gf’s break up.
ALL the siblings had relationship problems and so much cheating or almost cheating happened in a little over 100 minutes. It was kind of depressing to watch. This family is full of terrible people, LOL.
Connie Britton’s character got the raw end of the stick. She should have been used way more.
Jane Fonda didn’t really impress me. And this is coming from someone who loves Cat Ballou.
Other Thoughts:
I love Tina Fey. I do, but she doesn’t have a whole bunch of range. She was good in the comedic moments, but her dramatic ones fell flat.
Adam Driver’s character was a d-bag, but the most lovable d-bag ever. He did some terrible crap (and is kind of a borderline bully) but you’re not really mad because he’s just so cute. Kind of F’ed up, but that’s just the way it is.
This haircut on Timothy Olyphant is a mood, is it not? Even he’s wondering how he got that ‘do.

Overall: 75/100 - some really beautiful moments, some really boring moments

Parentdale - - - for plotting ref!
So Lyndsy’s soiree has be thinking about the Havensdale parents a lot and I’d love to plot out some connections with them!! Below’s a list of all my viable parents and their backstories in a compact summary for reference (feel free to message me about connections etc and what it’ll mean for our actual characters!):
Havensdale Natives (they grew up here so high school etc connections like!!)
Karen McReid (single, fc; stana katic) - you know her already! The aunt of Ruby & Carrie, mom of Danny. She was super serious in high school, like ‘class president’ material also with a bit of a wild side but her sis Krystal was the Wild OneTM. Had the weight of the world on her shoulders ALL the time. Eventually dated Daniel Moore (Jenny’s uncle) in high school. Now a businesswomen and all around pillar of the community but keeps an arms length from being too involved in town shenanigans.
Veronica Evans (single) - this is Erica and Rose’s mom! She’s very lovely, a friendly neighbour with a messy ex that no one really knows the real story of (except a select few including neighbours the Wilsons). Close with McReids & Wilsons. Had a lot of friends in high school but lost touch with them when she was married. Is still trying to regain Power over her life and have fun again with friends. Doesn’t date but might want to. Help her.
Chuck and Claire Cooper (married, fc; paul rudd and leslie mann) - the Cooper’s! Christian’s parents and Cam/Callie’s aunt and uncle. Chuck is a teacher at Havens High and Claire owns local baker ‘Claire’s Cakes’. Chuck Cooper was the Ricky Beaumont of his time, total party animal, messy flirt, always up for shots. He’s a bop! Claire is the one who keeps them together, a responsible, very embarrassing mom (they’re both embarrassing tbh). They were BFF since childhood but didn’t get togetherTM until well after high school. ▣ (x)
Victoria Harvelle (married, fc; america ferrera) - Jess’ mom and absolute #dramaQUEEN. She grew up in Havensdale and got the hell out as soon as she turned 18. She’s an ex soap opera star, glamazon and simply #dying over having to be back in Havensdale all these years. Thinks she’s better than everyone - always did. D-I-V-A. Fake friends only probably. Knows her husband is cheating on her. Will not discuss his love child Lua Harvelle thanks bye. Was compelled by Jess to think they’d sent her away for her bad behaviour but tbh won’t bring her up either.
Mitchell and Lacy Morrison (married, fc; alexis denisof and charisma carpenter) - the Morrison parents! Mitch is an absolute dork with really cool socks who owns ‘Morrison Records’. Honestly just...a soft, nerdy Dad who loves his wife more than anything. Lacy is the Bad GirlTM and always was (definitely in love with this nerd all her life tbh). She’s very cool which makes up for how uncool Mitch is. Remember, non-magical people think Mark woke up from his ‘coma’ recently and magicals know he was brought back from the dead. They deserve a nice night, basically.
Aaron and Marie Fairchild (widowed, deceased) - Charlene’s mom/Rachel’s uncle and aunt. Marie died when Charlene was young and Aaron is always on the road for work. Marie was thee Cool MomTM and very involved. They both would have had a TON of friends until Marie died and Aaron became distant. Needless to say, neither are here tonight.
Lyndsy McArthur and Andrew Moore (re-married - fc; , deceased - fc; jason bateman) - Jenny’s parents! We all know Lyndsy of ‘Lyndsy’s café’. She’s an absolute sweetheart with a right hook to match. Another piller of the community TBH, need I say more? The same goes for Andrew who died when Jenny was little (he was a fireman). These two were high school sweethearts, 100% the cutest couple, probably prom king and queen. Lyndsy’s now married to Derek McArthur if y’all remember!
Felicity Montgomery (married, fc; madchen amick) - #icequeen! In high school though she was a punky rebel with a giant attitude problem. Her and Ethan McArthur were also #that couple - don’t remind her. (x)
Maryse Anderson (married) - Effy & Lana’s mom, god help her. Very judgy, very straight laced and god fearin’ - she’s also super involved with the town’s events etc. Probably causes drama at every PTA meeting. Probably has beef with every other parent in town. BIG SECRET: her husband is in jail.
Larry Manning (married, fc; will smith) - Tyler’s dad. Owner of family pub/restaurant ‘The Silver Fox’ and a town treasure. Basically everyone’s dad, always looking out for you and can fix pretty much anything. He’s a settled down, very chill, married man and father. Was literally THE COOLEST guy in high school though, ask anyone!
Fred Porter (married) - the Porter dad! Can you believe there was an original Greg? ‘Cause Fred was breaking hearts, jaws, his own fists and making 1000 mistakes per minute long before his second son was even a thought. He got his act together! He’s a very hard working dad with good, family values who only wants the best for his family. Is so hard on Greg because he sees so much of himself in him tbh. His wife was 100% his saving grace, he loves her so much.
Mr and Mrs Jennings (married) - Isaiah’s parents! Mr Jennings is a member of one of Havensdale founding families so they’re SUPER involved in the town. They’re very fancy, have a big ole house, love to take trips but are friendly with everyone. They’re only snobby on accident. Mr Jennings is very serious and is waiting for Isaiah to stop his nonsense and join the family business. Mrs Jennings is way funner.
Not *from* Havensdale but live here now!!
William ‘Bill’ Tyler (technically, legally still married, fc; mark ruffalo) - Hailie’s dad. He own’s ‘Bill’s Tech Store’ which is a computer store so he’ll fix your WiFi etc. A grumpy loner type with an absolute heart of gold. Everyone who was around at the time knows his wife Grace Laurel Tyler left him and Hailie years ago (her dramatic return is still lowkey on the D.L right now though). Loves his daughter SO MUCH, is stressed to his eyeballs about her having.......a boyfriend. ▣ Was dating Sarah Palmer before she died (Juliette's mom) and honestly, me and Kayleigh figured this out today and I'm still crying.
Joseph Montgomery (married, fc; matthew mcconaughey) - Mr Montgomery! He’s lived here with Felicity since before Elena was born (22+ years). He’s a business man with political ties and always wears a suit. A big ole charmer that you literally can’t help but like!
Mrs Porter - info to follow on Greg, Simon and Annie’s mom but lbr...she’ll be an angel!!!
Penelope ‘Penny’ Manning (married, fc; salma hayek) - Tyler’s mom. The Mannings moved to Havensdale 17+ years ago! Penny’s a high flyer, works in fashion, always has her hands-free in, slightly aloof and very scary when she’s on the phone dealing with a problem. The BossTM. Absolute goals. Loves her son and doesn’t mean to be so absent. Friends with everyone but she never has time.
Joseph Salvatore (married, fc; jared padalecki) - Joey and Keith’s dad (and maybe more). He’s lived in Havensdale full time aroundabout when Keith was born (ISH). Before this, he was a legit rockstar. He toured, he did the whole sex, drugs, drink and rock ‘n roll thing. Now he’s a real pillar of the community, owns the gym, is very involved with the town - which made the arrival of his Secret Son Joey such a SCANDAL. He’s still recovering.
Charles Harvelle (married, MIA, fc; david tennant) - No one has noticed yet or caused a scene about it but Mr Harvelle is currently missing.... Details will follow, for now his wife just believes he’s on another business trip AKA having an affair with his secretary. A mess at being a father and husband. RIP. Has lived in Havensdale aroundabout 18 yrs with his wife and Jess.
Mr & Mrs Thomson (married) - Tessa’s parents. They’re both hunters who’ve been on the road for most of their lives (saving people, hunting things, the family business). Just a fab couple! A supportive, dorky dad and a badass yet super sweet mom. They’re v likable and have been in town for a fair few months now.

Disney+ What To Watch: My Top 10 Favourite Modern-Day Disney Classics
Tumblr media
#6. Zootropolis
Disclaimer: I am aware that this movie's official title is Zootopia, but I'm from the U.K. where it's called Zootropolis both describing the movie and in the movie so that's how I'm going to refer to it as.
So yes, as I stated yesterday with Big Hero 6, it was a real toss-up as to which would be #7 and which would be #6, but I chose Zootropolis as my #6 ultimately because I feel as a story and from an imagination point of view, it does have the superhero movie beat.
Why? Well unlike in the past of Disney movies when you have animals depicted in real-world settings, interacting with humans and simply being able to talk, Zootropolis consists of an entirely animal cast in a completely fictional setting based on any major metropolitan area you can think of and they're all anthropomorphic.
It's any mainstream buddy cop plot you can think of, but one told in this fictional animal populated setting with the same levels of discrimination and issues surrounding prejudice and hierarchy that you would see in any human based movie.
The animation and designs on these animals and the settings are fantastic. It's so obvious to see a fox as a con artist being sly by nature and for a lion to be the mayor as he is king of the jungle, but to actually see them in this setting is just really fun.
The theme of the movie about the metaphorical glass sealing and not being defined into one single trait just because that's what society seems you should always be is really inspiring and there is something about having that message delivered through animals that makes it that much more accessible.
The comedy is so good particularly in places, not just the spoken humour but also the distinct and somewhat obvious character tropes like the sloths working at the licence registration company and being very slow in both working and talking, but also Judy and Nick's reactions to this with Judy getting more and more frustrated and simultaneously Nick smirking.
Even the fact the big crime family of Zootropolis is lead by a rodent called Mr. Big, it's such an obvious gag at this point having someone small being called that, but it still feels fresh here because they're animals.
The names for the districts here are incredible. Little Rodinta could easily be Little Italy but is also inspired by Greenwich Village. TundraTown is this world's polar region, the Bunnyburrow beautifully sums up suburbia and it is also just wonderful.
Now the actual plot is kind of dated in the sense that it is the young plucky dreamer bunny working hard to beat the odds and become a police officer despite every single individual, parents included, trying to tell her she needs to stick to the natural order of things and be a carrot harvester.
Then you have the shady fox who has given up on his dreams and decided to simply take from the world that scarred his childhood as he’s also always been told what he is and been ostracised because of it.
Much like Moana, I love the buddy comedy dynamic that these two have. Because while Judy does seem like the naive dreamer while Nick is the more worldly realist, they both learn through the other one what they need to make them whole, with Nick learning humility and discovering he actually wants to be a cop, while Judy gets some teeth and does things she may not have thought capable of doing, being a bit sly, being cunning.
Realising that the working world is always an upwards climb and there is no resting on her laurels; just because she got into the police force doesn’t mean she’ll be taken seriously, just because she finally gains some recognition and respect, doesn’t mean she’ll please everybody. It’s realistic, it’s everyday, she’s not a Mary Sue but she keeps going and persisting and that’s what makes her such a great character.
Now obviously there was a lot of talk in this movie about the hierarchy of predators and prey, in real-world terms this could be any form of discrimination. Race, homosexuality, gender, religion, all of these real-world discriminatory issues can apparently be summed up in the animal kingdom of predator vs. prey.
One of the best lines in this movie is Officer Clawhauser packing his desk after the new wave of predator discrimination comes in because of Judy and Clawhauser tells her how he’s been demoted because having someone like him being the first face everyone sees isn’t the best fit with the department.
Obviously he’s talking about him being a cheetah and a predator, but because there are also hints of him being an LGBT character one could also make the argument that his line works on multiple levels.
Speaking of Clawhauser, Disney have recently developed a trend of queerbaiting which, as a gay man, is slightly frustrating especially when most of the queerbaited characters are supposedly gay men. Clawhauser, LeFou, Poe Dameron, even Ryder in Frozen II there are so many telltale signs that they indeed are queer characters, but nothing official. Nothing that clearly states they are. It is frustrating, roll on The Eternals.
Judy Hopps as a main character is fantastic because never would I have thought a plucky young bunny cop would be a compelling leading character as a mid-20s man. Two reasons I love Officer Hopps; not only is she voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin aka Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard in Once Upon a Time, but she has such a soothing and gentle voice that it suits a bunny rabbit beautifully.
As for Jason Bateman voicing Nick Wilde, not only do I not really know who the actor is but it never sounded like a celebrity coming from an animated characters mouth, I believed Bateman as a fox.
Idris Elba needs more recognition for roles he is great in and as Chief Bogo he is fierce, intimidating, strong and everything that a good Elba performance has.
Jenny Slate, JK Simmons and Alan Tudyk all very well melt into their roles, even though Tudyk plays kind of a parody on his character from Frozen. But it is just great having these supporting players so strong, also Kristen Bell plays Mr. Big’s daughter and is unrecognisable she is that good.
As for Shakira, she’s Shakira but she’s a gazelle, I have never looked at gazelles with any interest before but seeing Shakira as one, I’m sorry but she works it and delivers a great song with “Try Everything”.
There is a reason this movie won the Oscar for best animated picture and why it continues to be such a popular candidate for a sequel. This movie deserves a sequel, I want to see these characters have their stories continue. Through no particular rhyme or reason this was the very first thing I watched when I got Disney+. I wanted a feel good, hopeful, entertaining yet insightful movie to watch and distract me from all the bad that is plaguing this planet currently.
It’s a brilliant movie, it’s innovative yet familiar, light yet dark, action-packed yet laid back viewing. Everything that you want from this sort of movie is here.
So what do you guys think? Post your comments and check out more Disney+ What to Watch Top 10s as well as more Top 10 Lists and other posts.

My WildeHopps kid!
@nexijay @trashasaurusrex @helthehatter @skeletonguys-and-ragdolls @crewefox @msitubeatz @feverwildehopps @spazziebunnie Hiya fellas! Hope you all had a good Halloween night a couple of nights ago, ‘cause I sure did! ^^
I'm here to introduce a new character I have recently come up with, quite unintentionally in fact, with the help of a certain talented Disney artist from Italy.
The artist I'm referring to, 'Nippy13' and I, again unintentionally, co-created a new Zootopia OC back in August (originally, I commissioned Nippy to draw my fursona, but somehow he came up with this guy instead), and I've been keeping this guy a secret for a while, mainly to give him some development. But now, I'm very honored to finally reveal my very own WildeHopps kid. I give you... Jason-Tobias (aka, Jay-Tee) WildeHopps!
Tumblr media
This piece was done as a commission for me by Nivarra on FurAffinity. She did a fantastic job refurbishing Nippy's original design (which can be viewed in this link).
The only biological son of Nick and Judy (of course), and a brother of Isabelle, Todd, Violet, Robyn and Waverly (in a crossover AU of sorts idea I also came up with, which I'll get more into soon), Jay-Tee is a loyal, compassionate and ambitious fox-bunny with a huge appetite for music and playing the guitar (much like Miguel in Pixar’s Coco). He also has a big interest in video games, and cares deeply for his family.
He has the snout, teeth and feet of his mom, the ears of his grandma Bonnie, and the orange/yellow-ish fur (with bits of his mom’s grey fur, especially on the tail), body, paws and tail of his dad. He is the oldest and first born of the duo’s four biological children (five, if you count Isa, who came from a totally different side of Nick’s family).
And yes, he's named after Nick's voice Jason Bateman and the character Tobias Beckett in Solo: A Star Wars Story! He's also highly inspired by my brother John-Thomas, who also has ‘J.T.’ as his nickname and a passion for music, modern DJ music in fact! ^^

Ozark’s Felix Solis on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson
Ozark finale exposed! Not! But, Omar Navarro, aka Felix Solis, did give us some skinny on the season 4 filming, and, Jason Bateman’s words on the ending, as well as Omar’s.  How to wait till Friday when Netflix drops the last 7 episodes!
As gifted a thespian as Felix is, is as warm, generous, fun, and thought-provoking he is as a human. Felix is a rare actor who lets us in on his process––his thinking, his feelings, in creating his characters.  He detailed how he humanized Omar, how he made it possible for us to like this mad, murdering, drug lord. And, he makes it sound so simple… and easy.
We talked the pandemic, and how he transitioned from absolute fear to careful, almost fearless––filming the final season of Ozark with the brilliant Jason, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner to name but three, was a pretty great motivator. Felix followed up with The Rookie and Charmed and has a new Apple TV series in the about to be, works.
We went back to his “lazy” beginnings, passing on LaGuardia High School (although accepted to the school Fame was modeled after), because it was a couple of miles away from this his apartment, opting instead for the local High School, 2 blocks away. It’s nearly impossible to imagine Felix being lazy about anything––his work is methodical, meticulous, downright genius. Philip Seymour Hoffman thought so, convincing Felix with wise words to opt-in on a game-changing theatrical production rather than waiting on Hollywood; Al Pacino’s a fan, wrote and told him so, prior to their working together in Salome, and clearly, Jason Bateman is too, entrusting Felix with his most insidious villain to date.
Felix’s stunning performance in the Pulitzer-winning, The Cost of Living, is forever seared in my soul, as is his unforgettable Omar Navarro.
I love every second in Felix’s company, and every moment I experience his craft, his art, which, I’ve never once detected him using. An actor’s actor, Felix presents characters in all their humanity, glory, and flaws. I’ve never, for one instant, ever caught him acting. Because he isn’t. He embodies. He becomes. Lucky us to bear witness.
Friday… HURRY!

Imagine If They Had Just Made Them Gay: SuperHero Edition
Out of all the numerous movie categories out there, the superhero genre has always struck me as insanely queer. Maybe it’s all the tight, spandex outfits. Or the overly common “outsider / sociality reject” theme that can be found in almost every superhero movie known to man. But, regardless of the reason, most superhero movies tend to be one good, sweaty grappling fight scene away from being dubbed an LGBTQ+ instant classic. So then why aren’t there more queer superhero movies? Simple. Superheroes, by our antiquated societal definition, are supposed to be the epitome of hyper masculinity. They are super muscular, insanely good looking, and always manage to not only save the day, but also win over the affection of the damsel in distress while doing so. And of course, this naturally means, they can’t be associated to anything that remotely goes against those stereotype. Like being female. Or queer… Or, god forbid, being a queer female. Yes, there have been some great strides made over the past few years to fix this general disparity and we are finally starting to see more of an overall variety when it comes to types of superheroes on the big screen *cough* Wonder Woman *cough*, but there’s still a long, long way to go. So, while I sit and wait for Hollywood to finally make my dreams come true and produce a honest to god queer female superhero movie, I pass the time by playing a few rounds of “Imagine If they Had Just Made Them Gay” with some of my all-time favorite superhero movies.   Power Rangers (2017) Now, I know what you’re thinking… Power Rangers? Seriously? Out of all of the one to choose from in the vast lexicon of superhero movies, why Power Rangers? Isn’t it just a cheesy, big-screen version of the painfully bad 90’s kids TV show? Well, three reasons. One, the Power Rangers Movie is actually good… like surprisingly good, in an modern day Breakfast Club, extra angsty sorta way. Don’t believe me? Go on and watch it for yourself. Don’t worry. I can wait… Done watching? Good. Now, let’s continue. Secondly, the Power Rangers is one of the rare examples of an ensemble superhero movie that features more than one female lead. Crazy, right?  But, sadly, it’s the truth. The Avengers? Black Widow. Fantastic Four? Sue Storm. The Justice League? Wonder Woman. You get the point. And lastly, it’s the first superhero movie to feature a queer character. Granted, I use the word “queer” loosely because this is only hinted at in one scene where Trini (aka the Yellow Ranger) gives an indirect “coming out” speech after being asked if her problems were “girl problems.” But, at the same time, though, given her steady wardrobe of flannels and beanies, and faux shaved side of the head hairstyle, little to no verbal confirmation is actually needed. Trini, in short, is one rainbow flag away from a one woman pride parade. So, given all of the above, plus the overwhelming amount of Trini / Kimberly (aka the Pink Ranger) “getting to know you” deleted scenes, why on earth didn’t they just take it one step further and make it a full-fledged queer falling in love story? Absolute head scratcher, right? Well, I still hold out hope for there being one in the next movie (that’s if Lionsgate comes to their senses and finally green lights a sequel), but in the meantime, imagine if Power Rangers went a little something like this… Kimberly Hart. Once head cheerleader and ex-teen royalty of Angel Grove High, falls from grace after leaking a nude pic of her ex-best friend to her then boyfriend. (side note: still have sooo many questions as to why she had this pic to begin with. Is this a straight girl thing? Cause, if not, it so screams gay in a “I have memorized every Tegan and Sara song known to man” sorta way.) After giving herself an impromptu bob in the high school bathroom during Saturday detention, Kimberly happens to stumble upon four other high school social rejects late one night at the local quarry and they proceed to make a life changing discovery in the way of five oddly colored, intergalactic gems. Quickly coming to the realization that they suddenly now all possess superpowers thanks to the mysteriously gems, the group returns to the quarry the next day in an attempt to figure out what the hell is going on. And it’s at that very moment, that Kimberly’s whole life changes… Cue Trini. Angel Grove’s very own death metal loving, yoga practicing, resident pocket-sized queer. She’s feisty, sarcastic, and knows just how to impress a girl with her climbing up the side of a rock face and then leaping over an enormous cavern skills. Unable to hide her gay, Kimberly stumbles her way through a painfully awkward conversation where she tries to turn on the charm and convince Trini to come with them. And when that doesn’t work, she decides to just bite the bullet make a move (literally) but grabbing hold of Trini, throwing them right over the side of a cliff. And so begins the all too familiar “is it or isn’t it a date” montage. It’s all fun and games, until a gold obsessed villain named Rita shows up and decides to pay a late night visit to Trini. Rita proceeds to rough Trini up as a warning to the rest of the rangers and in the process fully ticks off Kimberly. Out for blood, Kimberly convinces the rest of the rangers to go after Rita. But, like most novice superheroes, the are beyond ill prepared and not only do they get their asses handed to them but the run also results in Billy ( aka the Blue Ranger) getting temporarily killed. After a quick regroup back at the ship for a prep talk and a minor supernatural resurrection, the rangers go after Rita once again, this time sporting brand spanking new suits and prehistoric themed vehicles. An epic battle ensues and in a sudden life and death moment, the light bulb finally clicks for both Trini and Kimberly. They want to be together… No, scratch that. They NEED to be together. And right now. With the burst of extra motivation, Kimberly and Trini lead the charge and help the boys send Rita on a one way trip to deep space and then sneak off to celebrate with one another… again… and again… and again…   Hancock (2008) Again, I know what you’re thinking… Power Rangers is one thing, but Hancock?  Not only is it a mediocre movie at best, it’s not even based off of a pre-existing comic franchise. I whole-heartily agree that Hancock has its fair share of problems. For starters, the main one being the casting of Will Smith as Hancock himself. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Will Smith. There are roles that are just good fits for him and then there are the other ones–the ones like Hancock. And then there’s Jason Bateman. Jason Bateman always plays one type of character and one type of character only… Michael Bluth. And Michael Bluth should never ever exist within a superhero movie. But, looking beyond its problems, Hancock does have something going for it that most superhero movies, more often than not, tend to severely lack–an original and unique story. Hancock’s plot at its core is an unrequited love story. Two superheroes, who are destined to find one another time and time again regardless of the situation, yet the mere presence of one another is so toxic that being together will eventually lead to their deaths. Sound vaguely familiar? Like something you might’ve seen in real life once or twice? That’s because this plot could also double as a description for roughly 65% of all queer relationships. Who hasn’t had a friend (or ten) break up with the same girl time and time again only to get back together with her a few months later because “they can’t help themselves”? So, given that it’s plot is insanely queer to begin with, imagine if Hancock went something like this… (Sidenote: My photoshop skills are good, but not THAT good. So, every time you see Will Smith, just imagine an amazing actress instead… Like Samira Wiley) Hancock, a rough around the edges queer superhero, is known for two things. Protecting the citizens of greater Los Angeles from a wide array of criminal activity and creating an insane amount of collateral damage while doing so. In short, Hancock has a MAJOR perception problem. But does she care? Chalk it up to years of being dubbed an “outsider” or a superhuman sized chip on her shoulder, but Hancock just doesn’t seem to care what anyone thinks about her. She’s a superhero and that means show up, kick some ass, and save the day. End of story. There’s just no need for anything (or anyone) else. But, then one day, Hancock’s world is turned upside down when she happens to save the life of a lovable but super generic PR specialist named Ray. Beyond grateful, Ray makes it his personal mission, not only to befriend Hancock, but also to help her turn her public image around. New clothes. New attitude. And of course, new social circles. Hancock begrudging goes along with it all, including agreeing to attend a family dinner, where she happens to discover that Ray’s wife Mary looks oddly familiar. And suddenly… BAM! Hancock finds herself inexplicably drawn to Mary. She simply can’t get enough of the woman and needs to be around her 24/7. Mary, though, wants nothing to do with Hancock. She’s not only strangely standoffish, but seems to make up an excuse to leave the room whenever Hancock appears. Dying to win Mary over, Hancock attempts to learn more about her and in the process discovers that Mary, in fact, is a superhero as well. But before Hancock can confront Mary on this unique shared similarity, Mary falls deathly ill and is hospitalized. No one seems to know what the problem is and to make matters worse, Hancock is affected as well, but only when she’s in proximity to Mary. Hancock is pushed to the brink of insanity while trying to unearth what is causing Mary’s illness. Unable to handle her feelings, she goes on a crime-fighting bender and after being hit on the head by a flying piece of debris, suddenly remembers who exactly Mary is. Mary is Hancock’s eternal soulmate and, in a cruel twist of fate, also her ultimate kryptonite. Lifetime after lifetime, they are destined to find one another, only to inadvertently poison each other to death by their mere presence. Not wanting to put Mary through anymore unnecessary pain and suffering, Hancock decides that the only sane and logical thing to do is for her to disappear forever and live out the rest of her life in utter isolation. She goes to see Mary one last time to say her goodbyes, but for she can carry out her plan, Mary stops her. Thanks to modern technology, there’s a way they can be together and yet be apart at all at the same time… So, what do you think?  What other superhero movies do you think would be better if they had just made it gay? http://dlvr.it/PjNdz1

Zootopian Holiday: Spicy Nick Appreciation Day
Founded by yours truly, Spicy Nick Day is a Zootopian holiday dedicated to officially appreciating our beloved Nick Wilde in his upmost sexiest form, because we love him this way! ;) Artists from all across the fandom collectively post an artwork, their 'contribution', be they separate or in a thread (which personally I like to call the Spice Parade ^^') or both :) We celebrate by taking part in the art trend or by simply reblogging and commenting on the works we see, so in a way we are praising the artists along with the fox! :D This is a fun day for all Zootopians great and small who adore and lust after Nick and his naturally sultry nature~ again, bc it's fun! Here are the Rules and Regulations: 1. Spicy Nick Appreciation Day takes place on the 14th of every month in honor of Jason Bateman's birthday (if you don't know who he is... *sniff* boi -_-) Credit to the date goes to @boneboy679 aka @wildehopps679 /he thought of it first/ A month gives us artists time to develop a fantastic piece without too much pressure and the audience won't get tired of the craze (not that we can never get enough of this hawt fox anyway mmm *I hope I worded that right*) 2. With that said, to truly be a part of this, you must post your contribution between the hours of 12:00am to 11:59pm on the 14th day! Sort of a given but eh, just wanna be clear.  3. Spicy Nick Day is everyday! :D Disclaimer: This holiday does not limit you to posting spicy fanart solely on the 14th of every month. If you wanna post before or after, then be my guest! Post some spice every day for all I care! I understand some blogs are dedicated to a daily dose of sin 😈 The 14ths are just the 'official' appreciation days when we all come together and overdose on spice-tastic artwork. It's the same as being a year-round prankster, but upping your game on April Fools Day y'know 😋 I'm not in charge of telling someone what they can post and when, but maaaybe save the best for the holiday?? Or whatevs  4. You are not limited to only the character, Nick, either! If you want, make a "Lewdie Judy" (credit for that name goes to @cimar-of-turalis-wildehopps ) if you'd like to give Hopps some appreciation too, then go ahead! If drawing Nick isn't your forte then just do our lovely bun; or even pair her up with Nick y'know. After all that's what I did! We do luuuve our WildeHopps ;) 5. [Probably the most important rule] It is absolutely mandatory that every contribution and/or reblog is tagged #Zootopia just like any other Zootopia related post! We all know this. It's non-negotiable. If you forget, fix it! Help us get back to the top! You are however given the choice of additional tags. These include, but are not limited to: #Spicy Nick Appreciation Day #Spicy Nick Day #Zootopia Holiday #Spicy Nick #Nick Wilde #NSFW sorta #WildeHopps etc. etc. etc.  6. AUs are invited! (as long as they spicy ;) Always strive for originality, but if you have a great au-related idea in mind then have at it!  7. The amount of spice in your contribution is both unlimited...and limited. In all honesty this is supposed to be fun and not intentionally an 'overly erotic' day, rather simply a 'spicy' day y'know. But if NSFW is your goal then I guess I can't stop ya *shrug* However please remember some people are sensitive to too much risqué themes and I recommend maaaybe dialing it down. Don't make it weird for anyone. We're supposed to enjoy the day as much as possible and not regret it in the end ^^' 8. On that note, characters do not have to be completely naked! Dress Nick in the Playboy bunny outfit for all I care! xD Or if Nick completely clothed but dawning a suggestive smirk/pose is more comfortable for you, then do that.  9. Collaborations are totally welcomed! As long as you all can work together and get it done in time then collabs would be a blast! 10. Go big! I've usually posted a series of drawings rather than one so try that too. Just don't run out of inspiration ^^' 11. This is not a competition! It's a celebration! Do not put anyone down! Leave us artists some kudos yo :D 12. You do not have to participate if you don't want to! Observation of Spicy Nick Day is totally up to you. No one is required to celebrate it. Whether you're, say, an artist who can't whip up a contribution in time due to whatever circumstance, if reblogging other ppl's work is more your speed, or if this just isn't your 'thing' for whatever reason, it's totally okay to ignore the craze.  13. You don't have to be an artist to participate! Take that in any way you like and be creative in whatever you choose to do ^^ 14. Super Important Reminder!! The characters Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps are well respected characters! We all know this. I mean c'mon guys, we love them! Sure this is a fan-made holiday for spicing them up, but try not to go overboard please. Don't totally ruin these two. Let me say that one more time, don't ruin them pls! Just keep that in mind. But HAVE FUN! :D /I hope this covers everything/

What to watch on Now TV: your guide to the new TV shows and movies
Although Now TV may not be able to compete with Netflix when it comes to sheer volume of TV shows and movies, it’s still a firm favourite among our team. That’s because it brings us the best bits of Sky TV – just without the hefty monthly bills.
As a Now TV user, you’ve also got the freedom to pick from a range of subscription plans, then you can stream TV shows and movies as much as you like, in the same way you do with Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
But despite the fact there might not be as much choice on Now TV, you’ll still get the same problems you do with Netflix: what should you watch next?
With so many good movies and TV series at your fingertips, it’s hard to know where to begin and how to figure out which Now TV shows are worthy of your time and which should be left alone. Or which movies are Spielberg-worth and which are barely good enough for Sunday hangover viewing.
That’s why we’re here to help. This handy guide tells you what you should be watching on Now TV tonight and over the next week or so. We’ve handpicked this selection of top titles from Now TV’s recently-released TV and film line-up, which means it’s only filled with the best-of-the-best – as well as the odd guilty pleasure too of course.
So whether you’re on the hunt for a new series to binge watch or a movie to scare you silly or make you laugh your socks off, this guide will ensure you’ll never have to waste time trawling through the hundreds of options when your time could be better spend winding down instead. And be sure to check in every week, we’ll keep this list updated with what’s new and worth watching constantly!
[Update: Westworld’s long-awaited second season landed on Now TV just over six weeks ago. The service is drip-feeding episodes so as not to ruin the fun for those who watch the latest shows on Sky Atlantic in the UK or HBO in the US. The latest episode is one of our favourites so far after a slow start to the new season.
But it’s not just Westworld that gets updated every week, there’s plenty to choose from including Supergirl, Legion and Billions – all with freshly-baked episodes landing every 7 days.
Movie-wise, you can get stuck into Captain Phillips, an Oscar-nominated thriller set on the high seas starring Tom Hanks, or IT, Stephen King’s infamous clown-fuelled horror story.]

Captain Phillips: A heart-stopping thriller based on the true story of the 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, in which Captain Richard Phillips (played by Tom Hanks) is taken hostage by pirates in the Indian Ocean. It’s a great movie with solid acting from Hanks and Barkhad Abdi, who plays the pirate leader Abduwali Muse, that was nominated for six Academy Awards.

It: Based on the 1986 Stephen King novel by the same name, It is about seven children who are terrorised by It, a super creepy clown. That’s all we’ll say for now so as not to ruin the plot, but be warned: it’s not for the faint-hearted. It was well received by critics and is the most profitable horror movie of all time.

War for the Planet of the Apes: The third and final instalment in the Planet of the Apes modern reboot series, and is all about the battle for the planet between the apes and the humans. Eagle-eyed fans of the original movies will notice it shares some similarities to the fifth film, Battle for the Planet of the Apes, but isn’t a direct remake. You’d have thought they’d have been a bit more creative naming the new title then, right? Still, for the third film in a reboot series it performed exceptionally well at the box office and received a lot of praise, as well as being nominated for lots of awards for its visual effects.

Zootropolis: Although it’s most definitely a kids movie, Zootropolis has a good story, top computer animation, LOL-worthy jokes and lots of voices you’ll recognise, making it totally acceptable to watch if there are absolutely no kids present.
It’s about a trainee police officer, who happens to be a rabbit, and a con artist, who happens to be a fox, and how they end up (kinda begrudgingly) working together to solve a mystery. It features the voices of Idris Elba, Jason Bateman, Jenny Slate and Ginnifer Goodwin and tackles some big issues in amongst the animal hijinks.
Atomic Blonde: Charlize Theron plays a badass assassin in this spy thriller that’s based on the graphic novel The Coldest City. She’s on a mission to hunt down a list of double agents who are being smuggled into the West on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
The movie has received mixed reviews, but generally Theron’s performance, James McAvoy’s supporting performance, the soundtrack and the action sequences were praised by critics, which is all you can hope for a violent flick about an assassin.
Dunkirk: The award-winning blockbuster from Christopher Nolan is all about the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beach and harbour of Dunkirk during World War II.
As you might expect, it’s intense, thrilling and at times utterly tragic. It presents a number of different perspectives of the evacuation from land, air and sea, which makes the lead-up to events even more tense.
There isn’t a great deal of dialogue but there’s plenty of super intense music and beautifully-shot scenes that’ll have you holding your breath for the whole 106 minutes of action.

Almost Famous: The classic Cameron Crowe flick is available to watch on Now TV, helping you relive the glamour, wonder and disappointment of the rock n’ roll comedy drama that was probably a firm favourite when you were in your late teens.
It tells the story of a teen journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine in the 70s as he writes about the fictitious rock band Stillwater. What makes it even more interesting is that Crowe himself wrote for the title in his teens, so some of the story is autobiographical.
Alien Covenant: Resurrecting a classic movie series is never easy. Alien Covenant does not take us back to the heights of the first two Alien films, but splices together the mythology of Prometheus and the action of Aliens to decent effect.
It’s a good old action romp with some philosophical noodling thrown in for good measure. Alien Covenant is directed by Ridley Scott, did you expect anything less?

Michael Fassbender returns as the creepy David, an synthetic humanoid survivor of the Prometheus expedition. Alien Covenant helps stitch together 2012’s Prometheus and the Alien franchise to mostly satisfying effect.
Kick Ass: Memories of Kick Ass may have been tainted by 2013’s rather rubbish Kick Ass 2, but this superhero comedy is worth a revisit. Particularly in the year of Avengers Infinity War, a film with so many characters you wonder how they all fit into 2hr30 run time. Kick Ass is far leaner.
A teenager and 11-year-old girl decide to become superheroes, despite not having any X-Men-like powers. Two hours of intense comic violence follows, drenched with style.
Roger Ebert called Kick Ass “morally reprehensible”, so we can’t guarantee all of you will get on with this movie. However, if you can take a lighter view on a pre-teen dishing out “real” violence, you’ll likely find it a lot of fun.
Wonder Woman: Testament to the great, recent movies you get on Now TV, this week we have Wonder Woman. It was only released in 2017 and is one of the highest-rated DC Comics movies to date.
Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman, an amazon warrior goddess who lives on a hidden island paradise with her fellow women warriors. Chris Pine is a World War I pilot who manages to gatecrash her home, and tells her of the conflict in the world outside. Superhero capers ensue.
Wonder Woman arrived on Now TV on International Women’s Day. The timing couldn’t be better.
Also try…
Clash: Ready for a tough watch and some subtitles? Mohamed Diab’s Clash is worth 97 minutes of your time. It’s set entirely in a police van in Egypt, as the characters are arrested and thrown in the back. The city is in chaos, following 2013 riots caused by President Morsi’s ousting from office.
The Mummy: The 2017 Tom Cruise reboot of The Mummy may not be a great film. OK, it’s not even a good film. But sometimes after a hard day’s work a tub of melted Hollywood cheese is just what you need.

Supergirl (New Episodes): The third season of Supergirl is currently unfolding on Now TV. It’s not been a massive hit, but has plenty of dedicated fans who enjoy watching Kara Zor-El’s story. For those not in the know Kara, AKA Supergirl, is Superman’s cousin and one of the last surviving Kryptonians. She was sent to Earth in a spaceship just like Superman, but hers was thrown off course. So by the time she does arrive Superman is all grown up and she’s in her mid-twenties. This is where the Supergirl TV show begins.

Westworld Season 2 (New Episodes): The highly-anticipated second season of HBO’s sci-fi western series has landed on Now TV, and it doesn’t disappoint. We’re 5 episodes in and it’s already providing answers to some of the biggest, most baffling twists of the first season. But unfortunately, it asks plenty more new questions. Sigh. It’s like Lost all over again.
For those not in the know, Westworld mixes the best bits of a sci-fi story within a western setting. That’s right, think amazing tech, robots and super futuristic interfaces alongside cowboys, train robberies and lots of violence.
Westworld the “place” is a quasi-theme park of the future, a virtual reality world that could be the locale for a classic Clint Eastwood film. The series is filled with uncanny valley moments and the kind of mysteries that made Lost such a compelling watch.
Also, just in case you’re interested but impatient: if you’re new to the series you definitely need to give the first season a watch first.

House: The TV series that follows the personal and professional life of Dr. Gregory House, a misanthropic and eccentric doctor and medical genius, may not be new. But this week all 8 seasons of the show have landed on Now TV, allowing you to re-watch all of the fascinating, gory and downright worrying medical diagnoses all over again.
Sure the show can get a little repetitive a few seasons in, but if you’re interested in biology and you’re a fan of Hugh Laurie’s portrayal of a brilliant doctor in a lot of physical and emotional pain, it’s worth a watch.

Here and Now: Fans of Six Feet Under should be excited about Here and Now. It comes from Alan Ball, that show’s creator.  It’s a multi-threaded tale of current-day multicultural America starring Tim Robbins and Holly Hunter.
Early reviews have been mixed, criticising the unrealistic dialogue and aimless feel. But we’re going to stick this one out.
Save Me: Save Me is a Sky Original production. It’s the story of Nelly, played by Lennie James, who is accused of abducting his daughter. He hasn’t seen her since she was three years old, but is arrested under suspicion of the crime.
The six-episode arc sees him try to discover her real captor and prove his innocence. It’s gripping stuff.
Silicon Valley: The first four seasons of Silicon Valley have returned to Now TV as a box set, ahead of the release of Silicon Valley Season five.
It’s a critically acclaimed comedy about nerdy programmers looking to make millions in a tech start-up. Silicon Valley is the creation of Mike Judge, of Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill and Office Space fame. Judge worked as a real Silicon Valley engineer back in the 80s, but the show’s sharp writing and timeliness makes it seem one of the freshest shows around.

Britannia: It’s dividing the critics, but if you can’t wait for a new fix of Game of Thrones, Britannia may fill that Westeros-shaped hole in your viewing calendar.
Atlanta: Donald Glover’s amazing comedy set in the eponymous city was overlooked by many in the UK, and is well worth a watch. It centres around two cousins navigating the Atlanta music scene trying to make ends meet, and is as astute as it is hilarious.

2016 and Also Some Pennies.
I saw 33 movies in theaters in 2016. Four more than 2015! Good job, me. They were (more or less in order of release):
Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World, Hail, Caesar!, Deadpool, Zootopia, Midnight Special, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Captain America: Civil War, The Jungle Book, Green Room, Keanu, Finding Dory, Everybody Wants Some!!, Raiders: The Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, Sing Street, Ghostbusters, The Nice Guys, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Star Trek Beyond, Central Intelligence, Hunt For The Wilderpeople, For The Love Of Spock, The Lost Arcade, Snowden, Captain Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Arrival, Moana, Edge of Seventeen, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, La La Land, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Manchester By The Sea
Still on my list of things to see are: Moonlight, Don’t Think Twice, and Paterson. They may or may not have been on my top ten, but WE'LL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE.
Before I get on with ten movies that are on the top ten, some honorable mentions…
The “Sorry La La Land, I Don’t Like Movies That Romanticize Hollywood” Award goes to La La Land. Don’t get me wrong, La La Land was great, but I’m grading on a curve here, and I have an aversion to movies that are 80% Hollywood patting itself on the back. Albeit in an extremely charming fashion with some catchy musical numbers.
Midnight Special wins the “See, Michael Shannon Isn’t Always Creepy!” Award. Midnight Special is great, and would have made my top ten in virtually any other year, but I saw a lot of great movies this year… and Midnight Special is one of them. Let’s call it #11 on my top ten.
Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, and Doctor Strange all share the “I Think Marvel™ Fatigue Has Finally Set In, Guys” Award. They were all perfectly entertaining films, I have nothing bad to say about them, but man, at this point I think I gotta take a breather on these things, or maybe just a nap.
All four documentaries I saw in 2016— Lo and Behold, Reveries Of The Connected World, The Lost Arcade, For The Love Of Spock, and Raiders!: The Greatest Fan Film Ever Made— get mentions. Sup. You’re mentioned. They were all fine. They were fine. Raiders! is probably the strongest of the bunch, but overall, not a great year for documentaries. (Disclaimer: I have not seen Zero Days or Weiner.)
I didn’t see any outright bad movies in 2016. (In theaters, that is… I saw plenty of 2016 releases on transcontinental flights, and they were universally terrible… notably Suicide Squad and Batman V. Superman.) (Okay, so mostly just DC Cinematic Universe movies.) Point is, I’ll just give Snowden The Most Boring Film Of The Year Award. Somehow Citizenfour, which just tells the events as they happened managed to be more interesting and dramatic than the dramatized version of events JGL and Co. mustered up. Meh.
Moving on to the top ten…
10) Finding Dory - Sort of like Monsters University in 2013, it felt wrong leaving a non-Cars Pixar movie off my top ten, so congratulations Dory, you did it. With a heaping help of Hank. And Sigourney Weaver.
9) Star Trek Beyond - Listen all of y'all it's sabataage.
8) Sing Street - AKA La La Land By Way Of 1980s Ireland. I mean, not really, it's about a bunch of kids putting together a far-too-competent band and recording some far-more-believeable shitty music videos, but as far as musicals go, I'm on team Sing Street through and through, and if you watch it (it's on Netflix!) you will be too. It swings baby, it swings!
7) Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping - Simultaneously the funniest and the funnest film I saw in 2016. Popstar is not high art, but it definitely achieves what it sets out to do (lambast celebrity culture and everything that goes along with it) and does so in a lean 86 minutes. Clearly someone must have distracted producer Judd Apatow in the edit bay, or else it would have been an hour longer than it was. (Although, hey, I could have done with another 45 minutes of Will Arnett as TMZ Guy. So great.)
6) 10 Cloverfield Lane - I left the theater thinking that 10 Cloverfield Lane was like Metroid Prime. Both would stand better on their own, not weighed down with the baggage of their respective franchises. Despite the baggage, 10 Cloverfield Lane is still a great psychological thriller that leaves you guessing even past the end credits, which I was totally into, but if you like your endings unambiguous, the Cloverfield “franchise” is probably not for you.
5) Zootopia - There's a lot of heavy topics addressed on this list (xenophobia, psychological abuse, bullying, ableism, sabataage), and I saw a lot of them coming, but what I did not see coming was addressing systemic racism in the kids' movie with the talking animals. I'll be damned, though, Zootopia kinda nailed it. And managed to be super entertaining while doing it. Sidenote: Jason Bateman should only be allowed to play foxes going forward. He's a natural.
4) The Nice Guys - Take The Big Lebowski, throw in some Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, add a dash of Boogie Nights and you’ve got The Nice Guys. Those are some great movies, and so is this. Make it happen.
3) Arrival - Not to be confused with The Arrival (way different movie). Arrival came out the Friday after the presidential election, and countless thinkpieces were written about how it's the perfect movie for this particular moment in time. And, well, I agree? (Controversial, as always, Rafferty.) Science fiction has a long history of showing humanity the way forward in tumultuous times, and Arrival does just that. I mean, we're not going to listen to its message, but hey, nice of it to give it a try. If you ever need a good pick me up that doubles as a nice put me down, Arrival is your movie.
2) Moana - Hot take: Moana is better than Frozen. Fight me. They’re both great, to be clear, but Moana's songs are better (fight me!), and Moana herself is a more interesting character than Anna and Elsa put together. I also liked Maui subverting expectations every step of the way. (Going in, I was like, is The Rock the villain? Waaaaaaa? Before realizing he isn’t.) (Or is he?) (He isn't.) (OR IS HE?)
1) Hunt For The Wilderpeople - In any other year, any of the top five movies on this list could be my number one movie of the year, but something about Hunt For The Wilderpeople tickled me just right. I went in cold, knowing only that Sam Neil was in it and it was a Taika Waititi joint, and that's how you should go into it too. (The trailer gives waaaay too much away.) Suffice it to say, it's hilarious, heart-warming, heart… cooling (?), and the best movie I saw in 2016.
