9: I don't read a ton of fanfic (usually I have a hard time finding stuff I like), but I have some I really enjoyed!

"Oh, how I'm hungry for heaven" by rainbowRamen is a series about the different members of Ave Mujica each having a conversation with Sakiko, and it is so good. It has absolutely shaped the way I think about the characters and the use of a vampire au to depict the themes is incredible. "Incognito" by Rusti_cor made me feel all the feelings from the revue of hunting all over again. It was a whirlwind, and the style as almost a memory really plays on some of the dynamics of the inevitable parting that revue starlight has always looming over it that I don't think gets enough attention, but does get explored here! 12: I absolutely love this question, though once again I'm not sure if I have a great answer for it, as I think of so many things and inevitably forget most of them, but looking at my random notes document let me pull some highlights...

For revstar most of my AUs are fancasts of different shows that I think it would be fun to see. Probably the craziest one is for Seisho and The Play That Goes Wrong:

I'd say mostly my AUs are fairly standard, like what goofy shenanigans would they get up to if they were all roommates or a crossover with x other thing. But one this is solely for my own dumb fun is just the scenario of the entire Octopath cast having game nights all together. Hikari is the GM for their ttrpg games. Ochette is really good at Set. Primrose always wins Coup. Partitio, Tressa, Alfyn, and Temenos have a years long Euchre game going. (I could keep going, but you get the idea)

Danny Phantom x Octopath Traveler, Danny is Therion AU. Big Octopath Traveler 1 spoilers ahead.

After reveal gone wrong, Danny goes into the Infinite Realms and gets yeeted into Orsterra via natural portal. The portal promptly closes, leaving him stranded. Danny isn’t doing the best physically — if this is one where Danny has Therion’s looks I figure he’d be stuck in ghost form with his powers shorted out, or something along those lines. Danny can’t read Orsterra’s language and he looks like a fucked up druggie when you can’t see his scars, so he’s not having any luck getting an honest job, and he’s just having a terrible time all around. So of course he turns to stealing to get by.

Eventually he gets arrested, gets thrown in the gaol, and meets Darius. Therion’s backstory happens ✨jazz hands✨. So when Darius yeets Danny!Therion off the cliff, he survives by having his powers reactivate at the last second.

For balancing purposes I figure I’d have his powers still be kind of chintzy still, like maybe he can’t use them without absorbing energy from other people (tying into Thief class skills.)

This still allows Danny!Therion to completely fuck with canon though.

Like in Chapter 1 Therion, Danny!Therion sees Heathcote and grabs the dragonstone and goes invisible and intangible and leaves. Heathcote and Cordelia are having aneurysms because their last Important Magical MacGuffin just fuckin poofed out of existence. Meanwhile Danny!Therion has no earthly clue why people keep trying to kill him, and wrongly assumes it’s because they know he’s a ghost.

I figure if canon needs to be kept intact, Danny!Therion could steal the Chapter 2 dragonstone on request of that one scholar dude (can’t remember name.) Alternatively, maybe Darius gets it and tracks down Danny!Therion for the one he’s got. I don’t know, I just want Danny!Therion to completely fuck with Darius. Like Darius tries to fondle Danny!Therion’s shoulder creepily like he does in canon but Danny!Therion goes intangible and puts on his most disturbing eldritch act. “You couldn’t kill what was already dead, Darius,” or, “Did you really never think I’d come back to haunt you?” And then he turns into a shadow with way to many teeth or something. I just want Darius to have nightmares about it for the rest of his life. The bitch deserves it.

Bonus points for Cyrus being completely convinced Danny!Therion is some sort of undead automaton and trying to figure out which of his traveling companions is an evil necromancer. Maybe Alfyn was the second character in the group and Cyrus hears that Danny!Therion helped Alfyn with the snake problem in Alfyn Chapter 1 and misinterprets that. Just, I definitely want Cyrus to think it’s Alfyn or Ophelia or Tressa i.e. one of the cinnamon rolls. On the angst side, we have Danny!Therion being dehumanized again, with an extra side dish of his scientist specific trauma!

And my last ideas revolve around the various ghosts Octopath Traveler could produce. Like, Primrose’s dad? The old King of Hornburg? Lots of options here. Maybe Orsterra’s gods are ghosts? So we get ghost fights for the advanced classes and maybe Danny!Therion meets Aelfric and is all like “oh yeah dude’s great” and just baffles and astounds Ophelia and the church crowd.

Me, with my Octopath Traveler x Triangle Strategy Crossover: Cyrus drags Therion, Alfyn, and Tressa on his delegation trip and then all four of them get caught up in politics. The other 4 Travelers need to go after them so that they won't die.

Bruh that just sound like canon octopath. I firmly believe Olberic and H'aanit's main job within the group is making sure Cyrus, Alfyn, Tressa and Theron don't die

See I went the other way. I made it lighter and softer. -slaps my cotc game- this game can fit so much fluff because I want it to. I took one look at Auguste and went “Him and Gilderoy are gonna get together and he’s gonna be redeemed and no one will stop me” and I’m now saving the 30k rubies to guarantee full awakening for when he’s released. I have so many hcs and expansive backgrounds for so many travelers and it’s fun sitting around creating a found family.

And yeah the og 8 traveler stories.... some are. :/ Alfyn said in the og game he’s never been further than Saintsbridge. Tressa has never left town. And then making Erhardt spend 8 years in the desert... when in the main game he was said to wander, and his old friends are everywhere....

I know the creators said it’s canon, but for me, CotC is a spin-off that I pick and choose things from. It’s the only way I can reconcile it with the og game, because the contradictions and retcons are kinda ridiculous.

We're definitely different in this case then! :o I like fluffy things, but I love angst more. >:D I love picking out the implied dark things then making it like 110% times worse! Even in the more lighthearted first game. Olberic and Ophilia are my favourites and I love the potential their stories have for it all.

Like I said, I think more about the Story Characters (I'd say "NPCs", but they ain't that anymore) less of the Travelers, so the dark stuff is more easier to come up with. (Oskha, Bargello, or Wealth in general, I love it all and its disturbing potential!!)

I can't judge the shipping of Gilderoy and Auguste because I ship Sofiano (Tiziano X Sofia). I say go for it! (...Are you the "Gilderoy fan" that Mini has told me about...?? If so, hello! It's nice to know who is being spoken about.)

In my future "canon" version of the game's plot, the main character is Shelby, my playthrough is simply just that, my own playthrough for my enjoyment. In the end, the collaboration with my brother's team is the canon we go with. Though his team is also barely involved either. It's complicated to explain, but one day I hope to write this story!

On the topic of Brigades/Main Teams, mine would be considered a "family" as well. I talked about that kind of thing in this post here if you were curious! May I ask you what your Main Team is? All I know is Gilderoy right now! I'd like to know about your team if you are willing to share.

Here's my team in one of my favourite Photo Spots; the 2021 Harvest Moon.

Wrath has actually implied he's traveled around. He was in the Highlands for his Recollection and je was in Sufratarja for his Traveler Story because it's a closer location to Wellspring, and it allows his story to naturally transition into the first game's plot. Mostly every first game character story does this. Meaning he had traveled to the Sunlands and stopped in Sufratarja, then after his Traveler Story he comes across the events given to us in the first game. He's only been in Sunlands/Wellspring for two years, not eight. Two years is more reasonable as it's long enough to be considered a "hero" of Wellspring, and kinda makes more sense since the town seems to barely know who he is aside from that he helps protect the town. Keeping yourself hidden for two years is easier than eight.

But anyway, in my opinion, I'd take most stories as canon with the exception of the Main 8, they chose to write their stories "grand" because they were main characters once. However, this game they aren't the main characters, and that should be understood by fans and by the creators! From what I know of all the Main 8 Stories (So far we've read through H'aanit, Cyrus, and Primrose, but I've played Tressa's), the only one that kinda seems okay in a canon sense is Cyrus' Traveler Story. Primrose's was very close to being okay, until she left Sunshade to go to the Finesand Ruins. There's also very missed potential in her story with getting Yusufa involved. H'aanit's technically fine as well, but it's just weird that they imply she's so "useless" when she's like 23 years old and I am sure she's an excellent hunter.

But yes, Alfyn going to the Highlands and Coastlands didn't happen at all. Tressa travelling from the Coastlands to Flatlands to Coastlands to Highlands to Sunlands, back to the Coastlands didn't happen, and especially not within one afternoon. :/

This might just be me, but I can't stand when they write stories with the characters making it sound like the continent is so easy to walk through and towns are so near each other. It sounds like gameplay being put into it. I want to imagine it takes an appropriate while to travel from town to town on foot, because thinking about the team having a campfire and all that stuff on the way is kinda nice. :) See, I told you I like some lighthearted things!!

Ophilia singing Rewrite the Stars where she has Zac Efforn's part while Therion has Zendaya's part

Tressa learned how to dance from Primrose so she can dance and sing Andante, Andante by ABBA to Alfyn but he joins in

This applies to all them, but the girls singing Simple and Clean while the guys singing Don't Think Twice by Hikaru Utada whether they feel like they're drifting apart or when they're having a bad day

Therion

It does not matter if it’s platonic or not, he will show off

Oh you haven’t watched him fight before? Watch him take out three monsters singlehandedly, telling his teammates they’re all his to defeat the whole time

He gets all smug when he kills a monster and the entire party has to deal with it (until he gets smacked up by another monster and his ego gets put back in check)

It’s not all bad though because sometimes he’ll buy everyone drinks at a nearby tavern to celebrate

He’s bragging to the patrons and barkeep the whole time but he’s paying so none of you feel a need to stop him

He and Tressa regularly get into arguments about stealing things, Therion insists that with their limited funds it’s a more financially sound decision to just take things, Tressa lectures him on how people make their livings selling things, Therion seems unaffected

You and Alfyn are usually the ones to break it up

They always start up again eventually though- neither will ever concede

He’s really good at spotting things out in the field so you’ve taken many ten minute detours to grab some shiny thing Therion saw in the distance

Alfyn Greengrass

He is a sweetheart

Like, he will heal you when he’s on the verge of collapsing because he wants to help

You might have to remind him that he needs to survive just as much as you do

But it’s all out of wanting to make sure the party is at their best so they can do good things

Sometimes he’ll stop everyone as you’re adventuring because he noticed a person or animal looking ill and he wants to make sure they’ll be okay

He’s also very personable with innkeepers and can get you guys a discount pretty often

Usually he insists on staying in the inn if somebody has important business to their personal journey to be respectful

He doesn’t want any of his party members feeling weird having everyone watching some deep personal moment

While you aren’t sure if any of you actually care that much, it’s still a sweet gesture that he’d wanna give you all privacy

Plus you guys get an extra nap out of it so you aren’t about to complain

Cyrus Albright

During battle he’s focused but also very bad at shutting up

Like, yeah he never misses an enemy but also he will not stop giving advice on everyone’s weapons

It’s very endearing because it’s obviously from a desire to teach but still Cyrus maybe stop talking Therion looks like he’s about to slice you

He mumbles a lot in and out of battle, usually about strategy or repeating enemies’ weaknesses so he can write them down later

It’s lucky he does that- you’ve noticed the others aren’t fantastic at note taking (out of not caring or forgetfulness you aren’t sure, but you know it’s good that Cyrus is there)

He will talk your ear off the entire walk between cities if you let him

He has a lot of stories to tell and information to share, so when given permission it all just starts flowing out of his mouth

You can often hear him and Alfyn discussing healing techniques and salves and balms, Cyrus doesn’t seem very knowledgeable on those more natural solutions

He really is like a sponge with new information, one time you heard Alfyn tell him how every plant in a certain family behaved and he was already mumbling about it to himself the next day

Tressa Colzione

Extremely protective

She will jump in the way of a monster to keep you safe

She cares a lot about her friends, she doesn’t want any of you getting hurt

This also means she will attack anything that seems to be a threat and yes she did stab a tree branch because your sleeve got caught in it and she thought it was a monster grabbing you but that was just one time can we stop bringing it up-

She’s very personable like Alfyn, although her skills lie more in getting you better equipment without running out of money

Therion would argue it’d be easier to just take the stuff when they weren’t looking but Tressa simply can’t agree with that and now they’re arguing again

Despite her scuffles with Therion, she really does seem like the glue of your party sometimes

None of you are exactly hostile towards each other, but some of you are certainly less social than others and it would be easy for one of you to drift

Easy, that is, if it weren’t for Tressa constantly coming up with things for you to do as a group to prevent that drifting

Traveling Shenanigans (Octopath Traveler)

So, I wrote this not to long ago, (Because I’m trash for this game) and I recently found out that the lovely @serchooke is playing Octopath Traveler! With his encouragement, I’ve decided to post this!

Honestly though Therion and Tressa have such a sibling dynamic and no one can change my mind! I hope you all like it! XD

It all started with a poke.

The eight travelers were heading to the Victor’s Hollow, more than happy to help out with each others quest. It was natural on the way there for shenanigans to begin. The group were all talking amongst themselves when Tressa suddenly let out a shriek. She was in the back, so everyone assumed a monster had ambushed them.

Rather than the claws of a monster, they were greeted to the sight of an irritated, bright cheeked Tressa attempting to punch a laughing Therion. “Oh my god, what was that? You’re ticklish?” He asked, easily keeping the merchant girl at bay. “Ooo! You keep laughing, Therion! You’re gonna get i-AH!” She once again shrieked when Therion’s free hand darted out and poked her belly. “ I’M GONNA END YOUR EXISTENCE!” She raged, her eyes blazing with playful fiery. 

“It’s ‘you are’, my dear,” Cyrus softly corrected in the background, a laugh in his voice as he watched Tressa attempt to “kill” Therion, who was grinning like a fool and cackling at her attempts. “Aww, shucks Therion! Don’t bully the girl!” Alfyn chided gently, a smile dancing on his kind face as he came over. “I am not bullying her- I am asserting my older traveler superiority.” Therion stated, going in for another poke. Tressa dodged that one, her eyes focused. “Alfyn! Help me!” She cried when Therion went to poke her again.

At this point, the group had carried on, leaving the trio to their own devices. Alfyn overheard an amused H’aanit tell him they’d be in the S’warkii Inn when they were ready. Cracking his knuckles dramatically, Alfyn approached, swiftly grabbing Therion around the waist and pulling him against his chest, earning an admittedly adorable yelp. “I got him! Tickle him, Tressa!” The apothecary laughed, adjusting his grip so Tressa’s prodding fingers could find her target.

“Heheheahhahahaha! Wait! Wahahhahahit Stahahahap!” Therion begged, tears of mirth threatening to spill down his blushing cheeks. He tried to wiggle away, but Alfyn’s arms were too strong for him! Plus, he didn’t want to kick Tressa in the face, so he refrained himself

“Aww, listen to your laugh, Therion! It’s adorable!” Tressa taunted, her tiny hands scribbling into his hips, making him squeak. “Quihihihihihit it! I’hihihihill kihhihihick yohohihire ahahahas- AH! NANANANAHO! NOHOHOOHT THEHEHEHEHEERE!” He squealed when Alfyn leaned in and began to nuzzle his face into Therion’s neck. Through sheer determination, the thief wiggled out of Alfyn’s arms and onto the dirt path, gasping for breath from the tickles. 

Tressa was hooting with laughter, reaching out and meeting Alfyn’s raised palm for a high five over the thief's head. Big mistake. Instantly, Therion’s hands shot out, and Tessa squealed when ten fast fingers dug ruthlessly into her sides and ribs. The merchant girl instantly fell over, howling with laughter as she was ruthlessly tickled. “HHEHEEHEHHEHAHAHAHA! NOHHOHHOOH! PLEHEHHEHEAHHAHASE!” She begged, her laugh bright and cherry. Therion, naturally, did not let up- rather he scooped the younger girl in his arms and carried on with the fight. “Ha! Who’s adorable now? You are! Yes you are!” He teased, cackling gleefully.

Alfyn laughed softly to himself, watching his friends go at it. It was quite nice, hearing the thief laugh freely. He’s usually so down, so sad. He was happy that Tressa and him could bring the thief’s more playful side out. He was so caught up in reverie that he failed to notice the sudden lack of laughter coming from the other two. He looked over, meeting both Therion and Tressa’s gaze.

 Oh no. Oh no.

“Shucks, guys..don’t look at me so….evilly!” Alfyn made a mad dash to the Inn, Therion and Tressa hot on his heels.

When they finally made it to the inn, the group was greeted by a disheveled Alfyn, a grinning Therion, and a giggly Tressa. Suffice to say, the trio were happy.

"No."

"Come on, Therion. Don't worry and just put these clothes on!" Primrose asked annoyed with rolling eyes. She had bought dancing clothes for Therion, Alfyn, Cyrus and Olberic  in order to pretend to be a travelling group of dancers in the city and thus less noticeable. While H'aanit, Ophilia and Tressa were dressing up in the adjoining room, the four men thoughtfully modeled their new colorful clothes, which were spread out on the table in front of them.

"So then, time to change my clothes!" Alfyn then said, hanging his grass-green pants and skimpy top over his shoulder and disappearing to change. "Well, you have to be open to new things, don't you?" Cyrus said and went to change his clothes as well. Primrose looked at Therion and Olberic with a triumphant expression on her face. "You see, they don't make such a drama out of it. And now go change your clothes!" she demanded, pointing at the last two garments that were still on the table. Olberic was already ashamed to go outside in this clothes, but still muttered a short "well, alright" and went to dress up. "Now only you are missing, Therion," Primrose said with an requesting  glance, her arms crossed. But Therion remained stubborn in his previous opinion. 'I certainly won't put on this shred just to be able to dance around in the street. Thank you, but no," the young thief said stubbornly, demonstratively dropping himself on a chair. Primrose just sighed, shook her head and left the room to see if the girls were ready.

"Hey, that's pretty comfortable!" Alfyn said with delight as he looked at himself in the mirror with his new green dancer outfit. Olberic, on the other hand, said nothing and just felt terribly uncomfortable with so little fabric on his skin. He just sat at the table with his head high red, waiting for the others to finally finish. Then Cyrus finally stepped out of the adjoining room with a scrutiny of himself. "Hmm, that's kind of ... interesting," he muttered, "I think this clothes could be very useful to me in combat because of the high mobility ..." Alfyn turned to Therion. "Therion, it's really not bad to put these things on. Actually, it's quite pleasant," the pharmacist wanted to convince Therion.

"I said 'no', understood?"

Suddenly someone was banging against the door. "Hey, guys, could you hurry up a little bit? We want to leave!" Tressa shouted from the other side of the door. "You see", Alfyn said to Therion, "the others are already waiting. We have to go." Therion shrugged. Then he returned unmoved: "Then go ahead, I can catch up with you in my own clothes, too."

"Therion! Either we go together or we don't go at all! So move on!" Tressa roared again from the other side of the door. Therion just stood up to protest, but then Alfyn grabbed Therion's dance clothes from the table, pressed them into the thief's hand, pushed Therion into the adjoining room and closed the door with a bang. Therion's curses from the other side could hardly be ignored. Alfyn turned around and looked into Olberic’s surprised face. "What? Somehow the whole thing had to get going here, didn't it?" Alfyn defended himself. Cyrus hadn't heard anything at all, he was sitting in the corner of the room again and was reading a book.

A short time later, Therion returned to the room with his new clothes and an absolutely gloomy facial expression. "One day, and no longer," he clarified.

"Guys, are you finally re- ," Tressa suddenly burst into the room in her yellow dance dress. After Tressa had calmed down again, she took a deep breath. "I'm really sorry, guys, that wasn't meant to be bad, really," she apologized. The young trader looked at each of them closely. "But that's something completely different, the clothes are really great for you all!" she said euphorically. In response, she received only a murmur. "So then," Tressa said excitedly, hooking up with Olberic and Therion, "If I may ask?"
