#all of these are amazing and deserve your time i would not reccomend bad books
Note
do you have any children book recommendations?
i was that kids who would get a whole stack of books from the library and finnish them in three days, but i stopped reading a few years ago, it wasn’t by choice, i still bought books and wanted to read, but couldn’t. (long story)
but now that i’m trying to read again most of the books that i own are YA and Adult WW2 historical fiction (i was a agnsty 16 year old history buff what can i say)…but i want to read something more wholesome and less realistic, if you know what i mean.
i’m really picky when it comes to YA books, but with childrens books as long as it’s found family, or mystery, or has a narrator with a sassy personality, i will read it.
i’ve always liked kid’s books better and it’s not like they won’t rip your heart out, on that note can you give me a heads up if someone dies (i was traumatized by Fig Pudding when i was 11, and read the last pages of every book because of it)
both the Lunar chronicles and Percy jackson are on my to read list, but the size of the books scare me a bit and i need to ease back into reading a little slower than that
OHKAY YES QUEEN IM ON IT.
Alright, a great and easy book series, super romantic, super sweet, aimed at like, 12-15 year olds, is Wide Awake Princess by E. D. Baker, or the Frog Princess series by her, or honestly anything by her. Fairy-Tale Matchmaker, Fairy Wings, A Question of Magic. All of it. 10/10. It's all so wholesome and cute but with good world building and magic, fun time periods cross overs between series, and all with a touch of angst, and The Frog Princess inspired Disney's The Princess and The Frog. So like.
The False Prince, by Jennifer A. Nelson. Not entirely a Kids book, leaning more towards YA in my opinion, but it's a fairytale written by a woman with the intended audience being middle grade boys.... so it's jam packed with adventure, intrigue, mystery, a bit of death and danger, politics, and a nice side of romance to swirl around in a whisky glass on a dark night. It's really hecking good, and even though I never read the sequels, I did realize exactly how much I want to be able to roll a coin over my fingers.
Anything by Shannon Hale. Yes, you want to read it. 10/10. Even her Ever After High books are good. I love this woman with my whole heart.
Roald Dahl's children's books. These books were my entire sense of humor as a kid, and you will enjoy them if you like laughing. All the nasty characters get what's coming to them, and all the magic is amazing. I recommend starting with something like The Twits(there's a very deserved death at the end, but it's hilarious and exactly the ending the Twits deserve.), or George's Marvelous Medecine(also has some death, but once again, you don't care about someone nasty dying from totally deserved consequences). My top three books of his are Matilda, The Twits, and Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator(the sequel to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which you should read first, even if you've seen all the movie versions).
Frindle, by Andrew Clements. Prepare to laugh. That's all i can say about this one. Comedic gold, satisfying ending.
Pretty Much Anything by Gail Carson Levine, but especially her Princess Tales, which are amazing retellings of classic fairy tales that you will enjoy every minute of.
The Princess Curse, by Merrie Haskell. I wrote angst fanfiction for the post-canon of this book. It'll never be posted. It's an odd retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
You Don't Know My Name, by Kristen Orlando. Fast paced, action packed, slightly terrifying book about being a teenage spy. More on the YA side, but I remember reading this book in a sort of awe. It was really good. There was quite a bit of death, probably of the violent kind, but it wasn't the main character, and it's a spy novel. Like, of course everyone she loves is gonna die. That's how the world works! I think there's another book out now. Absolutely awesome angsty pick.
Loki's Wolves, Odin's Ravens, and Thor's Serpent, by Kelley Armstrong. Basically a Percy Jackson but Norse Mythology and this time with the gods sort of manifesting themselves in children who now have to fight and battle the Ragnarök thing going down. They're all totally going to be stable by the end of this. At least one minor character death, and a girl turns into a fish a couple times. But there's a sweetheart of an angst werewolf!!! So!!!
Harriet The Spy, by Louise Fitzhugh. Remember your spy phase? So does Harriet. She documented it, and might be needing to learn a lesson about personal privacy and being respectful of others.
Caddie Woodlawn, by Carol Ryrie Brink. You will cry. That's all I'm saying. I don't think there's any major character death, but if there is I apologize. It's the older sister vibes for me, not even gonna lie to you. Caddie is a whole entire creature and I love her.
Socks, by Beverely Cleary. If you like cats, read this book, it will make you cry in a happy-sad way.
Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow, by Jessica Day George. Definitely leaning towards more YA, and yet still has a children's book vibe to it. BUT IF THIS BOOK AIN'T AMAZING IDK WHAT IS READ IT IT IS SO GOOD IADASJDLKHDGLKAHDFLKJDFLHSDF I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY 1000000/10 IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL I HAVE READ THSI BOOK SO MANY TIMES AND I HAVE LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT EVERY TIME I NEED TO BUY THIS B O O K.

July 2020 Fic Recs
Tumblr media
Here In The Afterglow by fondleeds
{not rated, 88k, 3 chapters, 1970s AU, highschool AU, period-typical homophobia, friends to lovers, angst, fluff, hurt/comfort, OT5 friendship}
“If you hadn’t noticed, I don’t have many friends,” Louis whispers, the blossom of insecurity in his stomach unfurling and clawing its way into his throat.
Harry is silent for a long time, and then he speaks; a soft, slow uncurl that makes Louis’ stomach shake. “I’ll be your friend.”
1970’s AU. In a tiny town in Idaho, Louis’ life is changed forever by the arrival of a curious stranger.
My opinion which no one asked for: I really really love this fic!! The character arcs and dynamics are just written so perfectly, so much so that I felt as if I personally knew the characters. I normally don’t drift toward fics set in another time period, but this has completely changed my mindset toward them. The Harry and Louis in this fic deserve absolutely everything in the world. Niall in this fic is also amazing!!! If you take one thing away from this whacko post, please let that be read this fanfiction!!

Soft Hands, Fast Feet, Can’t Lose by dolce_piccante
{mature, 112k, 6 chapters, American Uni AU, pining, angst, hurt/comfort, fluff, OT5 involvement + friendship, character development}
American Uni AU. Harry Styles is a frat boy football star from the wealthy Styles Family athletic dynasty. A celebrity among football fans, he knows how to play, he knows how to party, and he knows how to fuck (all of which is well known among his legion of admirers).
Louis Tomlinson is a student and an athlete, but his similarities to Harry end there. Intelligent, focused, independent, and completely uninterested in Harry’s charms, Louis is an anomaly in a world ruled by football.
A bet about the pair, who might be more similar than they originally thought, brings them together. Shakespeare, ballet, Disney, football, library chats, running, accidental spooning, Daredevil and Domino’s Pizza all blend into one big friendship Frappucino, but who will win in the end?
My opinion which no one asked for:
I really enjoyed this fic! I’ve come across it multiple times but the description kind of put me off as I’m not a huge fan of the frat boy Harry in fics sometimes, but someone rec’d this fic on twitter and I gave it a shot! I’m so glad I did!! I read this in a couple hours, like I purged through it big time! Really I urge you to give it a shot, the author also sounds absolutely lovely in the notes at the end of the book!! I’ve read this author a couple times before, I’m going to read more of their work. The character development is something i just live for!!

Walk That Mile by purpledaisy
{mature, 149k, 10 chapters, slow burn, angst, fluff, smut, strangers to enemies to friends to lovers, road trip AU, nouis + narry friendship}
Harry stares at him, the line of his jaw standing out scarily. “I wanted to get the most out of this trip so I planned it carefully.” His voice is low and steady and somehow that’s worse than when he was yelling. “So far, you’ve put your sticky fingers on everything I’ve tried to do.”
“Sticky fingers?” Louis repeats, offended. “Are you saying it’s my fault you got stung by a bee? Had you been alone you would have gotten halfway to the Dotty Diner and ran the car off the road because of an allergic reaction, so don’t go blaming me.”
“Polk-A-Dot Drive In,” Harry spits before getting out of the car. He slams the door shut with a deafening reverb and Louis rolls his eyes. A Route 66 AU where falling in love was never part of the plan.
My opinion which one one really asked for:
This fic played with me. The slow burn was so emotionally written and charged that my heart was all over the place. Louis and Harry were written so carefully, each of them have their own character arcs and troubles. But ultimately, the author showcases how they’re better together. I really recommend this fic!! It’s a well known fic and I really see why, it’s amazing!! Go read it!! I read it overnight, literally that amazing!!

Red Brick Heart by hazmesentir
{explicit, 88k, 9 chapters, slow burn, angst, pining, fluff, smut, friends to lovers, uni AU, OT5 friendship, Little Mix friendship}
Harry has only had his room for thirty-two minutes when it stops being his.
Uni AU. Harry had turned up at the halls of residence expecting fun, new friends, and maybe a life experience or two. What he doesn't expect is a surprise roommate who's loud and dramatic and obsessed with tea and is maybe, actually, all he's ever wanted.
My opinion which no one really asked for:
I really loved this fic!! I stayed up till 4am reading it all in one go. I really reccomend you go read it. It’s not one of my all time ‘sjfjkfghslkfghjsdg’ favourite fics but it’s up there!! A cute little room mate fic with angst and pining but with a happy endning!

Faking It by TheCellarDoor
{mature, M/M, 46k, slow burn, angst, smut, pining, fluff, OT4 friendship, fake relationship, uni AU, friends to lovers}
A uni AU in which Louis has been Harry’s best friend since he offered him cubed fruit on the playground, and they spend more time cuddling in their dorm beds than they do apart, but it’s not like that. Or is it?
Aka Harry pretends to date his best friend to escape unwanted attention from a too insistent classmate and hopes it won’t blow up in his face. Featuring embarrassing dildo accidents, awkward boners, longing, first times, late night conversations, emotional discoveries and Niall as the exasperated friend with bad advice.
My opinion which no one really asked for:
I enjoyed this fic, I wouldn’t say it was one of my all time faves but it was enjoyable. I would’ve liked a bit more fluff and to know what they did as their relationship blossomed, felt as if it was solely focused on the build up to that then cut it off. A cute lil room mate uni AU with a fake relationship and friends to lovers involvement :)

Swallow My Words by YesIsAWorld
{teen and up, 32k, 6 chapters, hurt/comfort, homophobia, highschool AU, athlete!Louis, athlete!Harry, OT5 involvement, Narry friendship, established relationship, coming out, fluff, smut, angst}
Senior year is stressful. On top of balancing school work, family, and friends, Harry's lacrosse team is vying to win the state championship, he's not sure where he's going to college yet, and he has a secret boyfriend that no one can know about.
My opinion which no one really asked for:
I really enjoyed this! I wouldn’t say it didn’t have it’s fault but it was very well written and progressed at a good pace. Would read again and recommend. I know highschool AU’s aren’t for everyone, but I really love this one!

Want You More Than A by TheCellarDoor
{mature, 77k, 15 chapters, highschool AU, brothers best friend AU, nerd!Harry, hurt/comfort, bullying, fluff, cuddling, smut, pining, kinks}
Falling in love with your step-brother’s best friend is a disaster enough. When he happens to be the boy everyone loves and you’re a nerd who wears sweater vests and cries during rom-coms, it takes it to a whole new level.
My opinion which no one really asked for:
I loved loved loved this!! I’ve never read a brothers best friend AU fic before and had even seen this exact fic before but decided against it. I’m so glad I ended up giving it a shot because I was desperate for some highschool AU fics. This pining/nerd!Harry/comfort/soulmates tropes is something I’m gonna be reading more of!!

They hid this from most people, but adjusting their voices and tapping away at the voice panel on their necks was a tiring task for the Spy twins. So when the concert was over, the pair were relieved to have time to themselves. They trudged towards their shared room, and pushed open the door.
Obsessive immediately looked up from his book as his two lovers dragged themselves to the bed and lazily flopped onto its soft and plush surface.
"You did good," Obsessive rubbed Jesse's hair, and a tired smile spread across his face. "I saw a livestream."
Talyn pushed her body up and wrapped her arms around Obsessive's waist. He put down his book and pet her hair, feeling her lean into the show of affection. He shifted and shuffled until he was laying down on his back, twins on either side of him. Gently, he pressed a kiss to each of their faces.

"C'mon, Mar, let's have some fuckin fun!" Melanie grabbed Marina's arm, ignoring her cries of protest, and threw her through a portal. Howling with delight, Mel joyfully leapt in after her.
"God damn it Mel," Marina pushed herself up. There was white, crunchy snow beneath her, and soft flakes fell around her, getting stuck in her tangled locks. "Also, where ARE we?"
"Bitch, I don't know!" Mel put her hands on her hips and looked up at the sky. The sun was a strange red colour. Mel pulled Marina up and dragged her along as they ventured into the forest in front of them.
"Mel, stop," Marina gently held Mel's arm, stopping her from going further. "I hear voices."
Marina crept to the edge of the forest, closer to the voices. She saw wagons, and huge circus tents. One of the bigger wagons had the words "Herman Fuller's Circus of The Disquieting" in huge, cursive letters. Apparently Herman was still living here.
Her thoughts were cut off when a man sprung from the wagon. He was tall, dressed in a tall hat and deep purple robes. He laughed heartily, grin wide on his face as another man came running out from the same wagon, chasing him down in the icy cold of winter. Reginald Wondertainment and Herman Fuller ran through the snow barefoot, giggling like schoolgirls. They teased each other like lovers, and soon they were making out on the snow.
"…holy shit, they're gay as fuck." Mel commented, crouching beside Marina.
"I think I've seen enough."

"Hey, Medicine?" Botany poked his head into the herbal garden. The plague doctor perked up, a basket full of picked herbs hung from his arm. "I, uh, need a little help… it's about Lilac."
"Oh. Oh, sure!" Medicine quickly got up, brushing off the dirt on his robe. The two men swiftly made their way to Lilac's room.
"Ah," Medicine brushed the sick girl's damp hair away from her face. "I believe she may have a high fever."
"Damn," Botany bit his lip, shoving a hand through his hair. "The clinic is all the way on the other side of the building. It's gonna take a while to get there."
"I can take care of her for you, if you aren't willing to leave her alone." Medicine offered.
Botany smiled, and agreed to let Medicine watch over his daughter while he made the journey to the clinic.

"Dude, what are you doing?" Angel leaned against a wall as they watched Apateon and her Gucci Gang prepare a plethora of pranks to play on the people of her shared company.
"We're about to play like, at least 5 pranks on a bunch of people." Mr. Flare replied, grinning like an adorable idiot. Which he was.
"Ah, okay," Angel popped a lollipop in their mouth, sucking on it as they watched their friend and his group work. Sure, he was a dumbass, but he was funny dumbass, and kinda cute if they had to be perfectly honest. Not enough to pique their interest though. Now, Tatsumiya, that might be someone worth chasing. They would miss her, but their aim was getting better.
Angel peeked around the corner, watching Marbles and Chitin set up one of the pranks. A classic bucket of water balanced on the door of Apateon's office. Their chubby cheek squished against the wall as they imagined the poor employee who would probably be called to Apateon's office for the prank. They hummed a little as they watched the crew continue on, waiting for then to round the corner before following. But only because they wanted to know where the traps were and how to avoid them. A normal part of their daily routine.

Marina scratched Donna behind the ear as she worked, keeping an(literal) eye on her swishing, plumed tail. She was multitasking, doing work and playing with the currently-gone-feral Donna. Not as easy as it might have sounded, but Marina was doing alright. Plus, she had help from others.
"Mar," Nightlight popped his head into the room. "What are you doing up at this time?"
"I couldn't sleep," Marina replied, keeping her eyes on the papers in front of her. "That, and Donna really wanted to play with me. Which is bad, considering recent events."
Nightlight sighed. He knew what she meant by that.
"Then let me take care of Donna, and you go to rest for the night." Marina paused.
"Are you sure?" She turned away from the papers. "She's wild."
"I handled her before," Nightlight pressed a kiss to Marina's forehead and took over head scratching duty. "I can do it again. Go on, get the rest you deserve."
Marina managed a tired smile and stood up, brushing invisible dust off her dark red skirt.
She fell face forward into her bed and decided that tomorrow, she would sleep in.

"This reminds me of my village." Myth sat on a carved wooden chair in Carter's little house, sipping a cup of rich tea in his hands. Things had gotten a little overwhelming for him, so the invitation from Carter was a blessing.
"Really?" Carter looked up from the little rabbit in his arms. "What was your village like?"
Carter was well aware that Myth was not human, and he had came and grew up in a violent, war-crazed place, which eventually led to its downfall. He knew he had more than enough scars on his skin to string together an elaborate biography.
"Before my family shipped me off to train for war," Myth shivered at the memory. "My life was… actually quite peaceful. Learning to grow crops, learning to raise livestock, being educated, all those stuff. I loved it. The farmer life was something I liked but since I was a male… I didn't have a choice but to become a warrior, or I'd be shunned forever."
"Oh, that's horrible!" Carter placed a hand on Myth's shoulder.
"I'm just glad I don't have to fight all the time now." Myth beamed at the elder.

Tula gasped at her image in the mirror. She had went to Rock for a little makeover, after Freya's constant reccomendations to go claiming it'd boost her confidence, but Tula certainly hadn't expected it to be so well done.
"Soo," Rock put her hands on Tula's shoulders. "What do you think, darling?"
Tula was dressed in an off-shoulder, powder white dress with cream highlights that reached her knees. There wasn't much makeup, since Rock didn't think it was needed. All in all, Tula had to admit… she looked amazing.
"I… wow..." Tula could really only stare in awe at her reflection.
"This is going to be perfect for your date with whichever of your many lovers you have plans with today!" Rock leaned closer to her ear. "But I wouldn't be surprised to find these on the floor tomorrow~"
Tula was completely taken aback. Her face flushed over immediately and she brought her hands to hide her face swiftly.
"Rock!!" Tula squealed. "Don't say stuff like that!!!"

Daniel stared from the catwalk above at the huge cuddle pile Pierce and their series had formed. They were looking quite comfortable. He would have felt bad for what he was going to do, but he absolutely HAD to get back at Poison's prank. So he let go of the string...
And watched in pure evil as ten full buckets tipped water and lusterdust over the edge of the catwalk and onto the family-like group below. He walked away, listening to the sounds of then screaming and yelling.

Mordecai Medic had a crush. And it was not good. There was a new person working at Wondertainment and holy shit they were adorable. And also kinda chubby. They looked so damn cute all the time. And that fashion sense! They were basically perfect. Sure, going to Marina for advice probably wasn't the greatest idea, but it was all he had.
"Hey, Mordecai!" Marina greeted him warmly as he stepped into her office. He grinned.
"Hey!" He made himself comfortable.
"So," Marina asked. "What did you want advice about?"
Suddenly he couldn't speak right. He tried to tell her, but he kept stumbling over his words and his mind continuously drifted towards daydreaming about and yearning for that employee. Marina didn't try to guess, and kept quiet, up ubtil it was very clear he wasn't going to be able to use his mouth to tell her.
"You have a crush on Angel don't you?" With those words alone, Medic swore he could have choked. Marina sighed with a chuckle.
"Look, I'll tell you what I usually say about crushes." She leaned towards him.
"If you like it and you want it, go and get it."

"Alyssum, meet Tulip!" Lyrebird sat little Alyssum next to Tulip, and moved away from the pair to join Flora, Birthday, Klaus, and Tooth in observing the next events.
The two babies observed each other for a minute, before starting to get closer looks at the other, obviously curious about what the other was like.
"Friend!" Alyssum exclaimed, and Tulip excitedly repeated the word. She threw her arms around her new friend, and the next thing they knew the pair were inseperable.
"Ohhh," Lyrebird cooed. "That's adorable."

Angel was just walking down a hallway, listening to Pietro talking excitedly about their many many birthdays when they saw something very strange. Something big, pink, and covered in blue eyes. Another thing that caught their attention was the loud gasp that came from beside them.
"MISTER PRESENTS!!!!"Pietro yelled, sprinting towards the 8 foot tall icecream-like blob. They immediately wrapped their arms around him in a hug, and lifted him up. Angel was very confused… by how absolutely squishy this guy just so happened to be.
"Umm…. Pietro? What…" Angel trailed off as the blob - Mr. Presents apparently - made his way towards them. They shuffled back a little as he came in front of them and stared. There was a part of them that also wanted to poke him just to test the squishiness of him.
"PRESENTS!!!!!" Suddenly the rest of the birthday series rushed past them and towards the giant blob creature. They leaped up to grasp him in a huge group hug, but even then it wasn't enough to wrap all the way around him. Angel watching the interactions of the family reunion, unsure if it'd be appropriate to join them.
"Angel!" Pietro suddenly grabs their hand, dragging her towards the rest of the group. "You gotta meet Presents!! He's squishy!"
Then they leaned in closer and whispered something else.
"I know you like hugs and cuddles." They gave the employee a wink.
Angel awkwardly walked up to the giant blob. Suddenly they tripped, and they fell forward. Angel squeezed their eyes close, preparing to hit the hard floor… and was very surprised when they didn't. Instead, they fell into a very soft and squishy surface. Like a blob.
"Oh, Angel!" Pietro clapped their hands together. "Mr. Presents saved you! Isn't that adorable?"
They didn't need to look at Pietro to know they were winking at them.
Hilariously, the next thing they knew, Presents was zooming down the hall with them in his grasp.
"PRESENTS NO!!!" Pietro laughed.
Presents only gurgled with happiness as he swiftly maneuvered around obstacles. Angel didn't have to do a single thing to hold on, considering Presents had half absorbed them into his body, instead they were giggling and laughing away.

Qian Kun, our lord and savior
Okay,,, listen,,, Kun deserves better, SM bring him out of the dungeon. I’m patiently waiting for NCT China’s debut,,,,
It’s hard finding Kun fanfics, so here’s a list of some good ones! I hope you like them too. Kun is an angel, change my mind.
Piano forte by lunalius on ao3
Summary: Johnny and his friends are going to do all it takes for Jaehyun to build his courage and ask Sicheng out. And while doing that Johnny might discover someone who inspires him to pick himself up.
So, we’ve got a side dish of good ol’ JaeWin, but JohnKun is the main ship, I swear! It’s super cute, though the summary kinda made me skeptical, I thought it was really cute! There’s a minuscule amount of angst, but its backstory “when I was a young boy this crap happened” kind of angst. It’s adorable, though.
A October Breeze by Cherubpathy on ao3
Summary: Every one thinks Johnny is a bad boy, but Kun discovers that he's more than the rumours people say about him.
The title has a spelling mistake, I know, it’s how the author put it in, the story is amazing, though, I promise! It’s a really good one with a mostly realistic relationship development. There’s some angst, but no relationship angst. I thought it was really, really cute, and also Kun’s there, so that’s a box checked already :,,)
and you’re a tease by sunnyjeno on ao3
Summary:  Kun is stressed about the coronation. Dongyoung is having none of it.
So this is a, as you can see, Kun and Doyoung pairing, but honestly, you could take their relationship either way. Also, there’s bits of Chenle and Johnny (not in a relationship, it’s okay) and they’re hilarious.
Sweet Talk by VeeTheSheep on ao3
Summary: Fridays were "gush about Kun in english" date nights. or so they thought.
This is poly JohnTenKun, so if you’re not into that, this won’t be you’re thing. It’s a super cute, semi-short one shot that’s just complete fluff with a bit of Kun teasing JohnTen at the end. It’s really cute, honestly.
I’ll call her Mina by tennisuhs on ao3
Summary: Kun is working on his thesis and Taeyong is on his way to become a very important chef. At the doors of proper adulthood, with questions no one prepared them for and situations that weren't on the books, the couple just go through life like two fish in a pond.
Or where Taeyong makes food for everyone since it's mid-terms season, and Kun loves his boyfriend to bits.
Even though the title mentions a Mina, there’s no Mina in the story? Unless I’m forgetting something. But it’s a really good, cute one. Just TaeKun being domestic and adorable, and Taeyong making a ton of food. It’s really good, go give it a try!
Warm by criesmom on ao3
Summary:  Johnny didn't expect to meet the love of his life in Ten's bathroom
This one is hilarious? Or the part where they meet in the bathroom is. It’s really short, not much too it, but it’s cute and fluffy with no angst.
a piece of (gluten free) cake by umiwomitai on ao3
Summary: Kun is the nicest neighbour Johnny and Yoonoh have ever had. He never complains about the noise, isn't noisy himself, and most of all, always gives them leftovers of whatever food he makes. Really, how could someone not fall for him?
This is exactly what Johnny wonders as he bites into a slice of (gluten free) chocolate pie, totally not falling for his Chinese neighbour.
This is an amazing one. Like, 10/10 love it, go be a confident gay Kun, I love this one a lot. It’s one of my favorites. I can’t really explain why, but you’ll like it too! hopefully... It’s, I’m pretty sure, angst free.
hannah montana by sunnyjeno on ao3
Summary: Kun and Doyoung used to be friends during their awkward preteen years. Everything changed when they entered high school, but the feelings they shared for each other just grew. Will they finally get it together in time for their last homecoming ball?
Another Doyoung Kun from sunnyjeno! It’s a cute one, but it’s open ended, so they don’t get together (though it’s implied they do) but it’s overall really cute.
Cardiac Arrest by lunalius on ao3
Summary: Kun is concerned about the regular that shows up at least five times a day to order a double strength large long black. Or he's attracted to him. Or both.
Oh boy, do I have a lot to say about this. I’ll start this speech off by saying that whoever lunalius is, they’re amazing and I would die for them. I’ll continue it by saying this is an emotional rollercoaster. It’s Angst with a Happy Ending in a nutshell with that perfect bit of humor. It’s beautiful, it should be printed and sold and I would buy it and read it every day, that’s how much I love it. It’s a lengthier one, almost 15,000 words (which isn’t the longest I’ve read, but it’s still lengthy for a one-shot). I should mention that it’s a JohnKun story, too. It’s beautiful. Like, 100/10 good. I really, really liked it.
my answer is you by gabilliam (vvhymack) on ao3
Summary: kuntober week i ; prompt ; I went to water my plants on the balcony and you’re on yours with a tinfoil hat, what the hell are you doing?
My God, here come all of the lengendary fanfictions. Two favorites in a row. This one is funny, with only a little bit of pining angst in it. It’s hilarious and also includes a gat, which is always amazing. It’s a rarer pair, JaeKun, but I enjoyed it, and, it’s honestly just amazing. It’s super cute.
wedding bells by _helios (neocitz) on ao3
Summary: Lucas gets roped into helping his boyfriends plan their wedding.
(He, unfortunately, never caught onto the fact that they proposed to him.)
It’s poly Jungwoo-Lucas-Kun, but anyway... So... Angst. Capital ‘A’ Angst. It’s mostly sad, but that’s what makes the ending so much happier. I don’t want to give it away so I won’t say anymore, but just be prepared for angst.
Brass by 11dishwashers on ao3
Summary: Kun has a hard time dealing with his new boss Sicheng, who's a literal model.
Winwin is a model and beautiful, Kun works for him and is also beautiful, the rest of the ‘96 liners show up, it’s beautiful. Also a bonus, pretty minimal angst.
Happenstance by lunalius on ao3
Summary: Johnny, single father of one, gets another parent to look after Donghyuck in the playground while he has to rush home on a work errand. And Donghyuck makes a new friend.
Guess whose back.... back again... lunalius is back.... tell your friends.... This one has minimal-ish angst. I say -ish because its between minimal and medium angst, so. Forewarning. It’s very cute, Kun’s son is Chenle, and it’s beautiful. There’s not much I can say without giving everything away, but it’s also a good one.
serendipity by cameldreams on ao3
Summary: johnny can't sleep
That’s it. That’s the fanfic. Johnny can’t sleep. Kun’s precious, what’s new.
it beats for you so listen close by heartsighed on ao3
Summary:  In which Johnny moonlights as Y, one half of the mysterious duo that runs the most popular radio program on campus, and Kun moonlights as Twitter user zhoujielunshusband96, dedicated Jay Chou fanboy.
Medium angst. That’s all there is to this. Medium angst. It’s really good and cute, would definately reccomend (though ig that’s what I’ve been doing this whole time).
kun’s flirting 101 by timelessidyll on ao3
Summary: Sicheng, naturally, was a more introverted person. Part of that was because of his intense hatred of cute and silly things, and the other part was that he hated almost 90% of the people he met. He made sure to consistently remind Chittaphon and Kun that he, at most, tolerated them. The thing about Sicheng was that everything needed to align perfectly for him to really enjoy something. He had to have a good mood, be around Kun or Chittaphon, and be doing something not silly. That led to to the question: What was Kun trying to accomplish?
Length summary, lol. It’s a really cute, fairly short one full of terrible puns (that gives a little too much away, though). No angst, just Sicheng being tsundere.
maybe I could hold you? by edgeplay on ao3
Summary: Yuta's always had bright ideas, this one takes the whole cake though.
Okay, listen. I ship YuWin pretty hard, but this got me into YuKun. Yuta and Kun? Not a pairing I’ve ever imagined, but god damn this is so good! It starts as your typical ‘fake dating’ story troupe, but I like the way it ends so much. I’m literally in love with this! Read it. Do it.
cut through the clouds by heartsighed on ao3
Summary: Qian Kun, microbiology major, vice-president of the ISA, part-time poster model and full-time mom friend, is perhaps more stressed than he would like everyone to think.
heartsighed on a roll man! This is a DoTenKun poly ship story, don’t like, don’t read. It’s very good, with a lower case ‘a’ angst. There’s a good amount of angst, but it’s not capital ‘A’ angst. So, I hope you understood that.
What the Spring? by haknyeonsmrjoo on ao3
Summary: Winwin keeps a photo of Kun on his phone, and the next thing he knows, Kun has Winwin's phone in his hand.
This was actually one of my first NCT fanfics ever! I thought it was the cutest on Earth. I’m a bit biased though, and you’re only gonna hear me say this once, but I’m Chinese and I’m mostly biased toward Chinese kpop stars because, hey! How do I watch Chinese idols from America? Answer, I don’t. It’s easier to access kpop... :,,,) This a short oneshot, very cute and fluffy
That’s it! hope you enjoyed it, and stan our king Qian Kun!

Hello I recently began reading historical fiction (both mystery and romance) and I remember you commenting some time ago that you like to read historical romance. Do you have any recommendations? I’m still new to the genre and am finding what I like and don’t like. Thank you. Ps I like your header , Julia Quinn is grate
Hi Anon,
I’m quite fussy myself when it comes to historical romance, but hopefully I can be of some help - I’m really not into ham joints for hands, musclar men and a lot of authors across romance genre tend to base their hero’s around this image. It’s always important to read reviews especially when you’re testing the waters, they sometimes give more detailed descriptions or offer trigger warnings or just warnings of distress (which are much needed, my heart has been broken many a time and a spoiler would have been appreciated). However, don’t base all your judgment on others views, if you think it sounds good but top reviews don’t, just go for it - but if it’s got mostly 2 star reviews then maybe not.
Amanda Quick might be your cup of tea as she combines mystery and romance in a 19th century setting. If you’re just into period mystery then Agatha Christie is always a reccomendation. She’s actually how I got into hr, well Christie and a really good fic writer who wrote an amazing historic au years ago.
A few of my favourites:
Fool for love by Eloisa James. Some heartbreaking moments in this book, for context the heroine has had an injured hip since birth, “They said you would never marry, Henrietta. You are married. They said you would never dance. We are dancing. And they said you would never give birth. But I know you. I know you want this baby. We’ll go to every doctor in England if we have to. We can find someone who will save the baby. And you.”
A week to be wicked by tessa dare - this book is wild - fake betrothals, sharing a bed, science fairs, scientific dirty talk, impromptu weddings, sword swallowing, pretending to have an affair to hide in plain sight, misunderstandings, highwaymen chasing them and lets not forget being robbed at gun point with our hero left for dead before our heroine knocks the lights out of the unsuspecting bandit. This book seems like fanfiction, more specifically fitzsimmons fanfiction. Once I read it I was tempted to write it but I’m a bad writer. Worth noting this book is one of the few books I enjoy both by the author and in the ‘spindle cove’ series, the book prior to this is a good read, the rest are mixed.)
Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day is great, I like-love it but I don’t love-love it. The hero coveted heroine for several years however she married during this time, she becomes widowed and the two meet by chance and explore the sparks that have been between them since the moment they laid eyes on one another.
Scandal of the Year by Laura Lee Ghurke - fyi only a pretence of adultery none actually committed- Hero and heroine are discovered in bed together by heroines husband which results in divorce, yes the scandal! Hero has no idea how he ended up in bed with the heroine, he remembers nothing other than her kiss before all fades to black. One later, they meet again, we learn their lives have intersected since they were 16, each coveting the other at one point or another yet too afraid to say something. Basically, Hero wants a future with heroine, heroine is scared and wants to enjoy her freedom after her horrid first marriage.
Her Ladyships Companion by Evangeline Collins - fyi, adultery is committed but your heart aches for the heroine, she was so young when she married and he is so horrid you just want her to be happy ahh spoilers anyway - Hero is a male prostitute (I blame fanfic for my love of this rare trope), he is hired by our heroines close friend who believes heroine deserves some attention in her life. She has every intention of sending him away until she meets him and everything changes. Their relationship is great until Hero realises he wants more than she can give him. He leaves and asks she not to contact for him again, yet he is summoned once more. Does he go back? Will they ever be able to have a real relationship? 🤷🏻‍♀️
When beauty tamed the beast by Eloisa James - the Hero honestly reminds me of Fitz from aos, he’s such a grump. Our hero is a doctor - an upfront and emotionless one at that. He was injured as a child resulting in a permanent limp and the use of a cane. Our heroine is beautiful, the talk of the town and allegedly pregnant having been spotted kissing a prince then throwing up after eating less than fresh prawns at a season event. The hero’s father thinks that his son will never marry or beget an heir (he believes his son impotent) and so arranges a marriage between he and the hero, believing that she is already pregnant which would provide him his heir. The hero is no fool, as a doctor he knows a stuffed pillow when he sees one. This book is packed with affairs by the beach, a spreading disease, a race against time and thunder storms. This book also includes the heroine coming to terms with what she perceives as her loss of looks, as someone who prided herself on looks alone it is such an amazing journey to see her inner thoughts. This book is great, and I really recommend it.
The Earl takes All by Lorraine Heath - I cannot put this book into words. It’s heartbreaking but it’s worth the pain.
Less angsty books include the Westcott series by Mary Balogh (all save the last, Someone to Care, I didn’t care much for the protagonists as I had grew to dislike the heroine in prior books). I’m currently re-reading this series.
Someone to Love - Anna Snow has lived at the orphanage for as long as she can remember, whilst others left once of age, she stayed on to become a teacher (alongside her best friend Joel). One day she receives a letter from a solicitor to meet him in London. She discovers she is the only legitimate heir to an aristocrat after it is revealed he committed bigotry. She is thrust into a life she could never have imagined, with the help of Avery, a handsome lord, to guide her.
Someone to Hold - Camille Westcott begins teaching in the very orphanage Anna grew up in so she can find herself - if her half sibling can live so lowly, so can she. She meets Joel, an artist who teaches art once a week - they immediately dislike each other, due to his loyalty to Anna who is his best friend and the woman he once proposed to. He admires the way she engages the children and sees something in her that Camille doesn’t see herself. There’s sparks, heartbreak and a new discovery that could change Joel’s world forever.
Someone to wed - upon inheriting the Westcott title as the closest male relative to the late Earl of Riverdale, Alexander, the penniless Earl also inherits a mansion which is in desperate need of repairing. Thankfully for him, Wren, his neighbour, has just the solution to his financial problems. Marriage. Having only met Wren, a woman who hides herself behind a dark vail, ten minutes prior, Alex is taken aback by her offer. It’s the perfect solution but why would she marry a total stranger? And what is she hiding behind the vail?
I would also recommend Anna Bradley, her writings are quite light hearted and The Firstborn by Quenby Olson (latter is a clean romance).
I hope you enjoy these recommendations anon, I have tons more if not. I must warn a majority of these are angsty and so Julia Quinn may be a good read in between books. I hope you’re able to find the trope that you like 💕🦔

What do you do to reconnect when you are feeling out of touch with your practice? I just roll my sleeves up, blow the metaphorical dust off of my energetic center, and do a simple, low-spoons spell! Or I meditate and try to manipulate the energy of something around me or myself to keep those muscles strong. 51. Have you ever had any supernatural experiences? Mmhm! 52. What is your biggest witchy pet peeve? Gatekeeping witches or spirit workers. Pretentious people in general. Thinking witchcraft is a closed off, exclusive club. 53. Do you like incense? That I am capable of amazing things, things even the most intelligent mundane could never understand. 71. What are your least favorite things about being a witch? How expensive it can be :'( 72. A bunch of pretty rocks, herbs (sage and rosemary), and a bottle of mint essential oil. 92. What is the most spiritual or magickal place you’ve been? My eldest sister's house. I swear to God there had to be a faery ring or something nearby. 93. What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone who is searching for their matron and patron deities? Research, and trial and error! Just introduce yourself, spend some time researching and praying, find out what works for you. Not every deity is going to mesh with you, and you won't mesh with every deity. 94. What techniques do you use to ‘get in the zone’ for meditation? Binaural beats or music! I have to lay down, I can't sit up and meditate. 95. Did visualization come easily to you or did you have to practice at it? I'd say it came easily, though it takes a bit for me to concentrate and not let my ADD ass wander off. 96. Do you prefer day or night? Why? Night. Energy flows so much easier under the moon, and spirits are more abundant! 97. What do you think is the best time and place to do spell work? Whenever you feel like it, wherever you are most comfortable 98. How did you feel when you cast your first circle? Did you stumble or did it go smoothly? I felt a little giddy! I stumbled a bit, but it worked out. 99. Do you believe witchcraft gets easier with time and practice? Oh no way. It gets harder the more you learn, but its super rewarding. 100. Do you believe in many gods or one God with many faces? Hard to say, really. 101. Do you eat meat, eggs and dairy? Yep! 102. What is your favorite color and why? Mint or teal! Because its pleasing. 103. What is the one question you get asked most by non-practitioners or non-pagans? How do you usually respond? "Oh that's so interesting! What's it like?" I usually say: "Thank you! And it's not as crazy as it sounds. It's pretty simple, actually. Just a lot of salt slinging and shouting." 104. Which of your five senses would you say is your strongest? None of them are particularly strong, to be honest. I'm hindered by a lot of things, though I think that my intuition is pretty sharp. 105. What is a pagan or witchcraft rule that you preach but don’t practice? USE WARDS. I forget too often.

I love her photography What can I say? OK, how about this... I love her photography, and her story (watch the documentary - it's very well done)... and the truth is I simply wish she was still alive, or had been alive when here work was "discovered" - she deserved to know the joy she brought to people, and perhaps would have benefitted from receiving our love, or a connection... but maybe it was the lack of those things that made her special - I'm not going to get that deep... get the book - it's beautiful. Go to Amazon
Meeting Vivian Maier In 1996 I was helping my friend at his stall in the Evanston Farmers Market in Evanston Illinois. The market was on Sat. morning, I would see this very odd woman,Vivian Maier. I had no idea who she was or what she did however she was a standout in the crowd, very different in dress and bearing. She looked like a spy from a 1940's B noir movie. When she came to our stall I always wanted to make a photograph of her. I am a street photographer however she had an aura and I didn't want to mess with her.She once asked me if something was wrong I didn't know what to say. Get the Book you will not be sorry. Go to Amazon
Outstanding print quality and beautiful selections from Vivian's catalogue. Maier fans will love this. The print quality is outstanding... among the best I've seen in any photo book. The photos themselves are all excellent. I am so glad that John Maloof stumbled on Maier's work and took the time & effort to present it so beautifully. Highly recommend this title for Maier fans. Great photos, great story whatever others think of John ... Great photos, great story whatever others think of John Maloof. I think he did good to bring these photos to publication. Just wish Vivian had gotten the recognition she deserved when alive Go to Amazon
Amazing photographer This book is really awesome. Saw the documentary on Netflix and wow was just blown away by this odd woman's talent. Very weird story. Better off seeing the documentary first. The blank pages were a bit annoying. I get it - artistic placement and all, but I wanted as many photos as I could get so it was annoying to have blank pages in there. Anyway, loved it so much bought one extra for my brother for his birthday. Go to Amazon
Worthy Addition to Your Library I've been waiting for the work of this obscure, solitary street photographer to make it to book form. As with most of us who have followed this story in blogs and news reports--and have had our interests piqued with low-res, sporadically-posted online images--I have been titillated by possibility of seeing Ms. Maier's work in a form that would really allow us to appreciate this quiet master of the street photography genre. This book does not fail to deliver. It is a joy. The physical size of the book, the size of the images, the quantity of images, the image selection, and the printing provide a wonderful introduction to Maier's effort. It is really a pleasure to have the chance to sit with these images, to enjoy how they reach across the decades and pull you back in time, and to see a whole new body of work from a time period that is arguably the heyday of the genre. Enjoy! Go to Amazon
I reccomend it It's wonderful! I was in a doubt of buying it because of some comments in the website. But finally I got it and I think that it's very beautiful. It's true that the pictures has no comments on them, and the color is not black and white but the photos are so amazing and I think it's very interesting to have the book. Enjoy it! Go to Amazon
A shocking genius with her camera and a great unknown to the photography world A shocking genius with her camera and a great unknown to the photography world. The pictures of children particularly stand out for their utter honest display, so unsentimental and true. Crowd scenes, well-dressed woman and dowagers, neighborhood life, workers, and the homeless, all wonderful. Let's not forget the cop and old lady: Is he consoling her, or is he the greatest pastor? Much has to do with the choices made by the editor, and they are very smart as well. Mostly the synchronicity of images works well, but maybe a bit overdone at a certain point. Introduction was too short and sweet, adding little. Go to Amazon
Five Stars Glad I bought it a must read Why the sepia toning of all the photos? Smooth transaction Beautiful book. The overall effect of the film is not bad. love her work Five Stars Good Book

Street photography Extraordinaire Never heard of her before I saw this book on Amazon. It's on my Kindle app and the pix come through sharp. Maier had an eye for the fascinating amidst the ordinary. Much like a few of Arbus's photos. Actually I don't think I had seen the term "street photography in print until I saw this on Amazon. Only issue is that the print on the few pages of text up front is extremely small and hard, at best, to read. Part of my reason for getting the book was that Geoff Dyer wrote a preface (and if you haven't read The Ongoing Moment& by Geoff Dyer, order it this second.. Go to Amazon
