Band of Brothers Ages: IRL vs. Actors
Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?
What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.
Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.
Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.
I broke them up into rough categories, which are, again, approximate. I know I often forget how young the real life people were here, and this was a good reminder of that. I also found it interesting to see which actors were actually younger than their roles!
Check it all out under the cut ⬇️

Throwback: Tupac Shakur-If My Homie Calls
Tumblr media
Tupac Shakur's brotherhood anthem "If My Homie Calls" is on his 1991 debut album 2Pacalypse Now. The single was a part of the album's overall theme, which was focused on what Tupac saw in his immediate world and the community at large. He stated in an interview that he wanted to rap about things that affected young Black males and "Trapped" was a commentary on police brutality. But "Brenda Had A Baby" talked about teen pregnancy. Vice President Dan Quayle admonished the album after the attorney for then-19-year-old Ronald Ray Howard blamed the music for his fatal shooting of a state trooper.
"If My Homie Calls" had no profanity and it represented Tupac's purest ideals before he became an antagonistic rapper three albums and five years later. The video had several Black men socializing harmoniously together and Tupac alternating between performing on stage and walking the streets. 2Pacalypse Now established the potential of Tupac's voice transcending a hip-hop audience and possibly captivating the world outside of music. Thirty-two years later Tupac's debut album still influences artists of multiple genres and gets an intense reaction from cross-generational hip-hop fans. He is still one of the world's most famous rappers 27 years after his murder. In April of 2023, the Allen Hughes-directed documentary Dear Mama: The Saga Of Afeni and Tupac Shakur.

Maggie Smith and Alec McCowen in Travels With My Aunt (George Cukor, 1972) Cast: Maggie Smith, Alec McCowen, Louis Gossett Jr., Robert Stephens, Cindy Williams, Robert Flemyng, José Luis López Vázquez, Raymond Gérôme. Screenplay: Jay Presson Allen, Hugh Wheeler, based on a novel by Graham Greene. Cinematography: Douglas Slocombe. Production design: John Box. Film editing: John Bloom. Music: Tony Hatch. Graham Greene's novel Travels With My Aunt is a contribution to the "wacky aunt" genre whose most popular constituents include Arsenic and Old Lace and Auntie Mame. Greene, a more substantial writer than the authors of either of those works, added his usual layers of international intrigue and espionage to the story of a mild-mannered bank clerk dragooned into risky business by his elderly aunt -- who may in fact be his mother. The film version jettisons most of Greene's subtext and a good deal of his plot, especially toward the end of the film. The project began with director George Cukor's interest in the book and his hope that he could persuade Katharine Hepburn to play Aunt Augusta. For a time Hepburn was interested even to the point of helping write a screenplay, but the original deal fell through. It was revived for Maggie Smith, playing to her strength as a specialist in eccentric and imperious women, which helped her win an Oscar for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (Ronald Neame, 1969). But Smith was in her late 30s, much too young for the film's Aunt Augusta, so she is heavily made up and affects a drawn-down mouth and a fluty treble for much of the role. (She was not too young for the flashbacks that show Augusta in her earlier years -- scenes that may have would have been impossible for Hepburn.) Smith was also nine years younger than the actor playing her putative nephew, Alec McCowen, who seems a little ill at ease in some of the film and never quite makes Henry's transition from mouse to lion convincing. The best performances in the film, surprisingly, are given by the American actors, Louis Gossett Jr. as Augusta's lover Wordsworth and Cindy Williams as the hippie known as Tooley. Though Travels With My Aunt fails to capture the spirit and depth of Greene's novel, suffers from miscasting, and ends weakly, it has some amusing moments and some opulent views of Paris locations.

BAU Death Toll
I had a couple hours to kill (pun intended) one day, so just for funsies, I tallied up the body count of each BAU team member.
I went through each episode on the Criminal Minds Wiki and looked to see which unsubs were dead and who shot them. With the ones where multiple team members fired, I did have to watch the scenes to see who most likely had the kill shot. The only ones I had to watch closely were the shootouts and firefights. Overall, the whole thing took me about two hours.
Not all of these are completely confirmed, but here goes...
Aaron Hotchner with 23
Derek Morgan with 22
David Rossi with 14
Jennifer Jareau with 11
Spencer Reid with 8
Emily Prentiss with 6
Matt Simmons with 5
Tara Lewis with 3
Elle Greenaway, Alex Blake, and Luke Alvez, all with 2
Kate Callahan, Stephen Walker, with 1 each
And for those of you that like all the information, spoilers for Seasons 1-15 under the cut
You'll notice some names are repeater. Those are the one where multiple team members fired, and the unsub's death was most likely caused by all of those shots.
