I love trying to do historical research, you want an answer to a simple question like "could Jews serve in the British army in the 1880s" and you get back
Jews in the American Revolution
Jews in the American Civil War
Jews in World War I
Jews who fought for Nazi Germany
Thanks, that absolutely covers the time period and country I specifically asked for, couldn't have done it without you

Redraw of some designs from cleaning out my old room and going through /years/ worth of drawings and found these old concept sketches for a Disney version of the old story Feathertop:
There was an animated movie of this story made at one point but it wasn’t very good and barely held to the actual plot. But basically a witch turns a scarecrow into a man to seduce the daughter of the local judge who’s wronged her in some way. But the poor thing doesn’t realize he’s a scarecrow and really falls in love, but then figures out he’s only the result of a spell and in despair breaks it and becomes a lifeless scarecrow again.
In my version we keep the revenge plot /the scarecrow being actually good hearted but now add the extra level of Old Dickon (the devil) trying to get Feathertop to be a good evil familiar and take her soul so he can be properly human, and later offering to trade Polly’s soul for her lover to become human, and Polly and Feathertop having to face off with him in ‘The Downstairs”. Feathertop sacrifices himself to save Polly/her soul but of course this is a reality where True Love prevails and her tearful kiss makes him human, no infernal spells needed.
(Oh and we replace the pipe needed to make him alive with a star medal cuz of course Hypothetical Disney isn’t gonna support smoking in this day and age x)

I went back to my old (abandoned) webcomic "Below Our Feet" and chose this page to redraw (because it was easy and I'm lazy). Also added some closeups!
Mistakes I made this time around were that I made my canvas too small to work on, so on the new page, the word bubbles look too cramped (oh well, lesson learned) but overall I think I really improved! At least when it comes to the art side of things. When I was most of the way through I actually wished I had changed up the panel layout, and wished I showed them together in the same panels more than twice.
I did change some of the dialogue slightly and changed how Alex (the taller one) dresses. This is on me when I made the comic, but the story takes place in 1847 in a fictional English town and I accidentally dressed Alex up in a mix of Regency and Victorian era clothing because I didn't do enough research. He is now wearing appropriate Victorian era clothing, albeit mid Victorian era clothing as there are more sources on clothing in the 1870s vs the 1840s.
A part of me misses this webcomic and wants to do a reboot, there are a lot of things I would do differently, and I'd want to make it more of a slow burn, as I felt I was rushing things in the original, but I don't have the drive to do this project anymore, and want to do other things. But I still love my boys! Maybe one day I'll do something with them and their story, who knows!

thats not leaking blood the colours are just a little stylized 😭 i cant be the only person who genuinely likes that portrait
I said if u squint it looks that way, I understand that it's not the intention bud. And ur probably not the only one but it's certainly a niche opinion. Like I've been racking my brain to think of reasons the artist might want to make it look like he was painting on a meat canvas and none of them are particularly flattering to ol king chuck. The artist wanted the military uniform to fade into the background to bring the man himself into better focus and humanise him. Which. yeah trying to cover over their violent history by humanising themselves is certainly what the royal family are going for these days so shoutout to the artist for getting the assignment ig lmao. And the one fucking incongruous butterfly that was apparently Charles' idea really gets me
Anyway no royal portrait was gonna work for me, in the same way that I'd be pissed if my landlord was like "hey look what I spent ur rent money on" and it was a fuckin statue of themselves, yk? Royal portraits in general are flimsy fuckin propaganda that waste our damn money, and this one is no different to me, it's just a more self-serving version
