I’m always wary of saying my partner and I have good communication because since everyone talks about communication as the most important thing and saving grace of a relationship I’ve kind of mythologised it in my head and been like well, there’s no way we’re that good at this. But then I remember that communication is the process of continually talking about your feelings when you’re hurt or when you need something or when you’re happy, and talking about what your plans are for the future of your relationship and your thoughts on your past together and I’m like. Eeee I’m in the process of writing it (although I’m going to bed now but I’ve got 1000 words done) but new (well kinda new) Vigcup idea!

It’s runaway Hiccup who later gets with Viggo, we skip all the past to when they are in an established relationship except they are on their way to Berk. I’ve written Hiccup realising where they are going and the confrontation between him and Viggo but I’m so excited to get to Berk.

Because basically Hiccup had a whole plan of stealing a boat with Toothless to make it seem like he ran away (because was worried that they may blame a dragon and decided he wanted to try and avoid that) - so they took it and flew for a while and then destroyed it. Later they went back and freed the dragons too but only after a week and Hiccup made sure it just looked like the arena malfunctioned.

The problem is a raid happened and they didn’t even notice the missing boat - just assumed dragons destroyed it, Stoick found the cove and jumped to the conclusion that Hiccup was killed by the Night Fury (so the opposite of what Hiccup was going for).

Anyway Hiccup and Viggo get to Berk and Hiccup is ready to be defensive, thinking they know he just ran away and would not want to see him, but Stoick (and the rest of Berk) are shocked that his son is alive. Hiccup really doesn’t want anything to do with it and is only there to explain dragons (with Viggo’s encouragement) since his issues with Berk have kinda just built up and festered over the years.

The majority of the story is just Berk being in shock about this new Hiccup and his husband, them learning about Dragons, Stoick and Gobber (and probs the other riders) trying to learn about Hiccup and why he ran/how he became what he’s become, Viggo probably having a bit to much fun with everything, and Hiccup just being done.

It’s kinda silly but I’ve been making myself smile with it! Also this came about probs 2 weeks ago when my Vigcup obsessed brain got reminded of my former Dramione 10-years-later relationship reveal obsession from my old Wattpad days lol, I’m fairly sure I’ve improved a lot since then (or at least I hope).

So.. for some reason, I started watching edits of Doctor Who AGAIN. I stopped watching DH because of Twelve’s regeneration, for context.

Anyhow, I realized again how deep the “I had a duty of care” hit me, even now. Even after years of watching it for the first time. I find myself getting so emotional when it happened. I find myself thinking about it all day, for more than a week now. I find myself tearing up whenever I think about it, even a little bit.

The way he looked at her while saying that was… so heartbreaking. As if it is the most OBVIOUS thing, and he couldn’t understand how she could miss that. That also brought “Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?” to the service of my mind. I thought it’s as if he was surprised that she’d forgotten about that. He “cared” for her too much that he was expecting her to know that. To know that he would go to any length if it meant that she’d be safe. I don’t know how to explain this but I think this is one of the -if not THE- most heartbreaking moments in all of DW history for me. Top 3 at least. He’s looking at her as if he really cannot understand what so strange about him doing all of this for her. If there’s any other scene that you think is more painful than this then be my guest. And yeah that OF COURSE was due to the incredible performance of Peter and Jenna, who brought life to these characters by their marvelous performance. They both were absolutely killing it.

Annnnyway….. Just for the sake of saying it, I don’t necessarily view the Doctor and Clara’s relationship as romantic, such as River and the Doctor.. BUT that’s not to say the Doctor didn’t love Clara. HE DID. He loved her with his whole being, he loved her so unconditionally that it was/is sometimes painful to watch -because I want to be loved unconditionally like that🧍🏻‍♀️- but there’s also no denying how…. straining-?? excuse me for not finding a better term to describe what I mean- they both were for each other. They were welling to push each other to the edge because of their love for each other. I mean Clara by day became a different version of him, and he literally went through 4.5 billion years of hell and torture just to bring her back from being dead. She was right, she did that to herself but he wasn’t ready to let her go. He KNEW he was going TOO far but that didn’t stop him, if anything it only pushed him further more. And they both knew that there’s a danger to that, to them being together, pushing each other and becoming more attached, more dependent on each other.

Clara CLEARLY wanted adventure, but the more she got it the more she became addicted to it, the more she became… like the Doctor. And that’s the last thing he needed. He didn’t need another version of him to be with him all the time. THATS why River didn’t travel with him all the time. She knew she’d become like him at some point and that isn’t what he needed, he needed someone to remind him, to hold him to the mark, because he’s such a morally gray character. That’s exactly why Donna, Amy and Rory were so important so popular to his story. They were with him all the time but they stopped him whenever he needed to be stopped. While we have Clara and Twelve pushing each other EVERY time they get to be together. There’s also “I’m exactly what you deserve” line. It says TOO much to me and I don’t think I need to explain why when I already wrote all of this.

Twelve is my favorite, and I can go on and on talking about him. But I am sometimes perplexed by his relationship with Clara. But it kinda makes sense when you think about them as the two sides of the same coin.

EVEN FREAKING MORE Things about Cinderella's Castle I'm excited about already as a big Cinderella fan

I could not watch the whole 12-hour stream, so forgive me for forgetting or excluding anything.

I had no clue this show was leaked. I'm glad I didn't see it. This fandom’s seemingly on the smaller size, but we're pretty respectful to the creators from what I've seen and I think that's great. Funny that Jeff leaked it. 😆

YEAH LET’S GO FOURTEEN LIMBED FAIRY QUEEN!!! Maybe. Of course, no pressure. Praying Mantises scare me, to the point where I'm not going to look it up to see if I spelled that right, so it's a pretty perfect inspiration for a pretty-but-terrifying fairy queen. At least for me. I didn't know they came in purple, I'm too busy running away from them.

The “great grey days” I believe it was called. An event with the trolls where the sun was blocked out. Wonder what that has to do with anything coming forth in the Lands That Are stories. Kinda reminds me of the death of the dinosaurs.

"Starlight" has been mentioned in some of the lyrics released so far and I wonder what that is. I suspect a type of magic. Probably "good" or "light" magic, just based on the good associations I have with the word starlight, but maybe that will be subversive. Or maybe it'll be good, but misinterpreted as bad magic. Who knows. All we can do is wait.

I was thinking about the Fairy Queen and how she might be treated in the story. Ella's mother was killed for witchcraft, so I wonder if Fairy Queen will also be sought out for witchcraft, hence why she sings about Ella's mother in "Ash to Ash" like she knew her or of her struggle. Or maybe the town will see her differently than whoever they think are witches. The name "Fairy Queen of Sweet Dreams" doesn't sound like she's considered a witch, but things can be subverted in stories. I wonder exactly what in the town's minds makes up the difference between good and bad magic users if there is one to them.

I know it's probably just my knee-jerk reaction to think bad characters can have more to them, but I mildly feel bad about the trolls getting hunted. I know they're supposed to all be bad human killers, but I can't wrap my head around them all being bad and deserving of their entire species being wiped out at this point in time. I don't know… THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS!

I wonder if characters from potential upcoming Lands That Are shows will meet ones from this show in the future and so on, like the Hatchetverse. Btw, what are we calling this world exactly? The Landsverse? The Castleverse? The latter seems like the best option to me as the Langs have been calling them “castle stories”.

I’m so curious about what other fairytales might be adapted for the Lands That Are. I feel like lesser-known fairytales, like Donkeyskin or Bluebeard for example, would be interesting, and the base versions of those stories in particular seem to fit the darker tones of Lands That Are. More well-known stories would be great too of course, and are a bit more likely to happen if I'm being realistic. But maybe they could combine lesser-known stories with more-known ones, either combining the plotlines to make one story or in a style like Into The Woods; for example: Beauty and the Beast + Bluebeard. Lowkey wanna write that myself if they don't.

I'm so glad Starkid decided to do a series of fairytales! I feel like the world is starved of genuine fairytale stories these days.

I'm excited to learn more about Ella’s two un-named friends. Nick and Matt seemed to love writing them, so I can't wait to see what they're about. I also can’t wait to see Crumb and Sir Hop’s relationship, it sounds really cute.

Ella’s oak tree reminds me of Into The Wood so much (and whichever version of Cinderella Into The Woods pulled that from). If they do little subtle tributes to other versions of Cinderella that would make me really happy. I admit, when I hear of any new "reimagining" of Cinderella I get nervous that it'll go the girlboss route in a way that isn't actually inspired, almost seeming ashamed to be a fairytale story and teasing past versions or it's source material for not being girlboss or "sensical" enough. Happened with Amazon's Cinderella. But I trust Starkid a hell of a lot more with reimagining in an actually meaningful way that isn't embedded with internalized sexism or whatever some reimagined fairytales have going on.

The mockup of the set!!! It looks so beautiful. Everyone who has the opportunity to see this show live is going to be so lucky I bet! I'm not jealous at all. Unrelated, but it vaguely reminds me of the Max Reinhardt Spring Awakening set.

A little nice to put the sapphic Ella hopes to semi-rest. Any ships will be “up to interpretation” and maybe that's for the best for this show, as Ella escaping her abusive home will presumably be the main focus. And that's my favorite—and I think the most important aspect of any Cinderella story anyway. I've seen some hopes for aroace Ella and those are really important too. Let's try to not fight over which sexuality Ella (and maybe other characters) "is", as it doesn't seem like there will be a canon answer, so there's no point in arguing with the wall; many people could possibly see themselves in Ella once Cinderella's Castle is released and that's a beautiful thing. And at the end of the day, all non-cis—heterosexual people are lacking in representation one way or another, so let's try not to play oppression olympics.

   “What the fuck…?” he barks as he walks through the broken door, eyeing it incredulously before he turns to you with anger quickly filling his frame. “Did you just kick my door down?!”

   You squirm slightly where you stand, further into the house, while you try and come up with a good excuse.    Despite his growing years, he can still make your adrenaline spike with his impressive glare and deep scowl.

   “You didn’t answer, so I…” you try, but he predictably doesn’t buy that.

   “So, you break my fucking house? What’s wrong with you?” he growls, walking closer, and even though you know that he won’t hurt you, your instinct is still to back away.

   You don’t, though.

   “I haven’t heard from you in weeks, I was worried,” you finally say, and it’s true. “You’re kinda ripe these days, so it’s not like it’s unthinkable that something might’ve happened.”

   His anger is mildly dampened by that, but he’s still not happy. Especially not at such a crude reminder that he’s no young stallion anymore.

   “Well, I’m still here, and I still gotta feed myself, which is why I was out hunting.    Would it have killed you to wait five goddamned minutes?” he grumbles, and you lower your gaze to the floor, evading the question.

   Because of course, you could’ve waited, but for some reason you’d felt extremely worried about him today, to the point where you’d ran the half mile between your house and his.    It seems silly now, but it had felt so overwhelmingly frightening at the time.

   “How the hell did you manage to break the damned thing anyway? You’re no youngster yourself, you know,” he complains, and you shrug, lifting your head again to watch as he picks up a few of the smaller pieces that had come loose when you’d assaulted the wood.

   “I guess I’ve just always been better than you at taking care of myself,” you mumble, and his eyebrows twitch slightly, but he doesn’t disagree.

   “You gonna stick around to help me fix it?” he asks then, and you relax, because you know that means that the argument is over.

   He’s been your closest neighbor for a few years now, and you’ve always had a good relationship, always helping each other and looking out for one another.    But you’ve also always argued.

   In the beginning, it had been pretty much on a weekly basis, because you’d struggled to learn the different sides of his character and how to talk to him in a constructive way.    And while it had gotten better, communication was still nowhere near his strongest trait.

   Also, things had gotten somewhat more complicated after you’d spent a night together about a year ago.    It’s developed into a friends-with-benefits sort of thing, more than any deeper affection, and you suspect that that’s about as much as he’s capable of giving anyone.    Which you’re perfectly fine with.

   The physical closeness is about comfort more than passion, and you’ve since spent many nights just sleeping next to each other, simply for the warmth of not being alone.    But you can tell from his tone that he’s asking for more than that today.

   “Be rude not to…” you answer with a small smile, which he reciprocates.

   “Thanks.”

   He brings his tools and together you fix the door in no time while idly chatting about the weather and the animals that you keep.    Conversation does occasionally get heavier between you, but that’s mostly late at night when you’ve had a drink or two. Work flows easier with lighter topics.

   “It’s getting about time to do something about that mop on your head,” you tease, keeping to the spirit of easy topics, and he huffs a laugh.

   “I was thinking I might grow it out, see how long it would stay curly,” he suggests, and you can’t really tell if he’s joking, so you just go with the first thing that comes to mind.

   “I don’t think your hair will ever be anything but curly. Which is good, cause I like it like that,” you smile at him while tightening a screw.

   “Yeah?” he asks, and you nod earnestly, which seems to spark his interest. “Do you like my beard?”

   He hasn’t bothered to shave much lately, probably because his right hand is causing him some trouble these days, so his beard is as wild as you’ve ever seen it.    It’s got little bald patches and still shifts between brown and grey, although the silver is winning that battle.

   “I like it a bit more tamed than this,” you chuckle, pinching a few strands between your fingertips and tugging gently, which makes him smile. “But yeah, I like it.”

   You’re all finished with the door just then, so he takes the screwdriver from your hand and puts it down on the kitchen table, before coming back to take your now empty hand and lead you to his bedroom.

   You stay the night, watching the northern lights dance across the sky through his bedroom window as you fall asleep.    And you think about how low the odds must’ve been that you’d not only survive the fungus, but come to live your best life in the aftermath of it all.

   Because while your life had seemed good before all that, it’s only now, after your bones have started aching and your energy drains too fast and you can never sleep enough, that you’ve finally learned what it is to have peace.    In both mind and heart.

‘Steve & Nancy fic (gay Steve character study & introspection)’ is joint 2nd on the WIPs poll for now, so here’s some thoughts ❤️

Steve being gay is an interpretation that’s very personal to me & close to my heart. it’s not mentioned unambiguously in nbtdad, but it’s certainly what i had & continue to have in mind (kinda curious if it came across to anyone in certain scenes—it was at the forefront of my thoughts when he’s recounting his past time at the Simon & Garfunkel concert ❤️) & i more recently hinted at it in the post s1 Steve character study 1983 is calling.

for this fic, i’m still thinking over exactly how to frame it, but i’ve got a quote from little women in mind that Steve resonates with & he ends up getting reminded of it as the book’s in Nancy’s 1983 bedroom in The Upside Down. Steve’s dealing with some guilt & internalised homophobia at the thought of ‘wasting Nancy’s time’ years ago. i also just love taking a look at Steve & Nancy’s friendship, the ideas that while in s2 they were trying & failing to support one another, they click as friends in the future. ❤️

rn i’m thinking there may be some kinda confrontation scene with Eddie when he’s pushing for Steve & Nancy to get back together in the woods, but Steve & Nancy’s relationship is the main focus. undecided on what the main time frame is for the fic so here’s the little women quote & a lil sentence or two ❤️

Looking at her now, Steve feels that weight again, pressure behind his ribs. Another crack beneath the surface—too many to count. I’m sorry. I should’ve been able to love you like that.

i do think i’ve seen him with isagi the most also because of the mancity match but tbh isagi has so many more relevant duos (rin, bachira, barou, even hiori and nagi) that it feels very very one sided?? i wish yuki and kuni or yuki and reo would become a duo because i think he would work w either of them really well!! technically reo and nagi are already a thing but it could be a way to break them up and let them find new friends and partners that push them more!! and kunigami + chigiri is also a thing but chigiri is so chill w everyone that i could see kuni and yuki being like a secondary duo the way isagi and hiori are

unfortunately i was knocked out on just half of a pill 😩 and paragliding was super super cool + not scary at all but i DID throw up into a little plastic baggie like 5 or 6 times and was nauseous/dizzy soooo would not repeat that experience 😓 but honestly i’m still glad i did it because it was so fun besides the vomiting and such a unique experience!! truly felt like a little bird hahaha…apparently nausea and motion sickness are a symptom of my birth control so once i’m back home i’m going to call the doctor and see if they have any tips!! for now we must endure i suppose 😔

truly i don’t think nagi understands human connection or loneliness or anything like that too well so he’s fine living without actual relationships because you can’t miss what you don’t know 🙁💔 but honestly he seems like he would’ve been very loving if he was raised normally?? like despite what everyone thinks he’s pretty loyal to reo and treats choki so nicely that if he had had a proper upbringing he probably would’ve been such a good friend/significant other 😪 that’s just my headcanon though until we get his actual backstory (like his childhood not just right before bllk) and see what things were like…adding this to the manifestation circle because i NEED to see baby nagi!! i bet he was soooo cute (and also i need to know if he escaped the bowl cut allegations 😭 his hair is wavyish so i think he must be safe?? but you never know)

To compare it to the book series keeper of the lost cities (spoilers ahead), it kinda reminds me of part of Sophie’s arc in the last book.

Essentially, she finally is officially dating the boy she’s liked for years (his name is fitz) but something is…off. When they do their telepathic bond excersises, she sees exactly how he views her in his mind: perfect. He sees her as completely perfect. While a lot of other protagonists might swoon, it just makes Sophie uncomfortable. Why? Because she’s not perfect. She’s made shitloads of mistakes. She’s almost started wars, she’s tripped a bunch, she’s been tricked, lied to, kidnapped, been impulsive, and more. She is complex and flawed and struggling, AKA she is a real person. Fitz doesn’t see her flaws, and therefore does not accept them. It makes Sophie wonder if he’ll still want her when he does accept them. It’s also been showcased in the books that fitz is shocked and enraged when Sophie does mess up, as if she’s not a sixteen year old with the world on her shoulders. He only sees her as the good she’s done and some imaginary picture perfect happy girl, so when things go wrong he lashes out.

This dynamic is later confirmed when Sophie looks at some drawings via her other love interest, keefe. The art is beautiful and really realistic. More so it’s real. He doesn’t filter out any of Sophie’s appearance, like her posture and scars. He recognized the societally dubbed imperfections but doesn’t think she’s any less beautiful. The way he roots for her shows that he sees her for what she is: a capable and powerful person, but still a goofy and clumsy teen. He sees her, all of her, and still loves her fiercely. That’s what Sophie needed, that’s what makes her feel truly loved. Keefe knows of every scar, every mistake, and every problem Sophie has ever had, and he adores her even harder. So Sophie chose him (for now, the series isn’t over).

(I’m not being anti-sophitz, I think it’s a perfectly fine ship (though I don’t ship it myself), but it was fairly toxic the last book, with Fitz’s expectations and neither really being ready for a relationship)

My point is that milkvan is not healthy in the way mike sees el, and she knows it. She’s got darkness in her that mike never acknowledges or talks to her about. He sees her just for her special parts, like her powers, looking past the fact that she has killed people (they deserve it obvi, but like bro you should prob at least talk about the time she exploded like ten peoples brains). Max knows that el has powers, but encourages el to use them how she wants to for once, instead of self defense or for someone else. Max helps her claim ownership of her powers, making them a part of her not just who she is. She’s clearly trying to move past the mentality of doing everything for other people (mike) but goes back to it when it becomes clearer that mike sees her just for her powers.

El deserves to be selfish and have fun. The happiest we see her is when she is doing so. Mike never seems to accept that.

Mike is seemingly only like this with el, and only when they’re actively dating. He doesn’t pressure his other friends like this.

Mileven is an unhealthy relationship.

The duffers show us it’s unhealthy by comparing it to healthier relationships like elmax and how different they are.

Mike and El had a healthier relationship when it was platonic, and they will again when they (hopefully) break up next season.

El is caught in the same trap she’s been in since br*nner wired it into her brain. She equates her self worth with what she can do for others, and what the current presence in her life wants from her. It’s not her fault, it’s a result of her trauma.

Which is why she needs to be without a partner or major male presence in her life for a while. To learn to love herself regardless of what she can do for others, and without the influence of anyone else.

TLDR: milkvan needs to break up Jesus Christ

Even the little hint about Peter looking at them almost like a family. You put so much imagery and psychology into these chapters and I eat it up every fricken time!!!

Lowkey I relate this song to Y/N because there’s just certain aspects about Miguel in this fic that also align with their universes Peter. Especially the whole staring thing mentioned in this chapter, how Miguel always looks at Y/N like Peter did, and Y/N smiles the same way that they did with Peter about Miguel. These lyrics especially!

So I feel like this one once it’s listened to kinda speaks for itself but it definitely kinda sounds like how I would imagine Miguel would feel falling into this friendship / situationship / relationship. Because it starts off as that slow and staccatoed tempo before building up to tempo and suddenly it’s like he sees this person everywhere, not literally but metaphorically. Being able to associate this person with so many little things in life.

Last one, and currently it’s a bit of a stretch. However, hear me out. This song if you don’t know (and I apologize for explaining so much but I wanna be thorough, I’m sure you’ve listened to Hozier but y’know) Is about a man being so in love that he would endure the struggles in life all over again if he could be with his lover once again, and that their love is so powerful it is not meant for a place like heaven. This to me is a perfect ending song for Miguel x Y/N because! There has been so much of a build up, in this whole process I feel like by the end of it, Miguel would absolutely live the life he was given once more if it meant being with Y/N once more. Every single tragic event would be worth the pain because of the sheer love he would experience in the end.

Just a note, Tobirama DID step in between Butsuma and Hashirama in the manga. As i see him, he was a gentle brother, he will feel for Hashiramas pains and joys, he tells his brother everything he thinks, he wants to be close to his brother. Its not until Madara that Hashirama, and their relationship...changed.

As for Hashirama, he loves his brother and its clear his whole dream was because of him, but we dont have canon material on how young Hashirama shows that love to the real person.

Im not saying Tobirama and Sasuke were alike in personality, and similar neither are Hashirama and Itachi, but young Tobiramas gentle ways of always looking to his brother and KiNda was just brushed aside, plus his baby looks thats closer to an Uchiha than his family, strongly reminds me of young Sasuke while his brother was busying with his "big picture" goals. Maybe as Edo he really feels he was lacking in being a brother and thats why he praised both Itachi and Madara on being brothers.

Thanks for the correction! I had to look it up again, and yeah, first Butsuma punches Hashirama and Tobirama catches him but then Hashirama goes on provoking Butsuma (lmao what a king) and that’s when Tobirama steps in. Honestly forgot about that part, I only remembered the first part.

As for the rest… I don’t really see where you’re coming from. As I said, the founders era relies heavily on interpretation and if that’s how you interpret child Tobirama and child Hashirama, then good for you. I myself don’t see any canon evidence that Tobirama looked up to Hashirama in the same way Sasuke did to Itachi. If anything, we see wee Izuna looking up to his big bro. There’s no Sasuke-Itachi and Tobirama-Hashirama parallel I can see, sorry.

And when it comes to Tobirama, there’s even more mystery. We see him as a child calling grown ups dumb and how they just should just make a truce, and then there’s a time skip and he’s more than ready to kill the Uchiha, to kill Madara and doesn’t believe in the peace Hashirama wants to make. What happened? Who the fuck knows, we never get to see his thoughts, only when he props Naruto. What is going on in that head at any time is a mystery to all of us and thus free to interpretation. There’s no right or wrong. (Though, I personally think that antis and stans are equally wrong.)

Canon shows us a rather cold relationship, but as I already stated, I reject that. They had their disagreements but we don’t really see them outside of that so I can imagine them in a loving brotherhood all I want. And yes, I do think Hashirama overreacted when he threatened Tobirama in that final Senju-Uchiha fight, but if him reacting a bit too emotional or rightfully calling Tobirama out when he’s being unfair toward the Uchiha is considered him being a bad brother, then I will point with the finger at Tobirama and say him yelling at Hashirama and insulting him and only listening to him when it’s an order is also being a bad brother. A relationship is a two-way street.

I’m not sure if this is what you were trying to do but if you came to me to point out how great and dutiful Tobirama is while Hashirama is the bad brother, then sorry, but you’re at the wrong address here.

It’s easy to get caught up in the FOB feels. They have SUCH a story, and have come so far, yet have remained very true to themselves. That’s incredibly rare to find!

This where I’m gonna ramble about Anne’s nonchalance and near indifference towards Marcy’s whole situation despite, not only supposedly wielding the “heart” gem (which embodies empathy, selflessness, and responsibility), but also the fact that she has been friends with Marcy since before kindergarten and has previously been very protective of her.

Alrighty, we’ll start with Anne’s relationship with Marcy in “Marcy at the Gates”!!

When Marcy is about to jump in and save Sprig from the barbariant queen, Anne stops her and says she can do it herself. Marcy argues and asks about why she won’t let her go before Anne shouts, “Because I just got you back, okay?!” She then adds:

So worried and sensitive, right? Well, let’s move onto “True Colors” :)

When Sprig is dropped by Andrias, Anne is so overcome by grief and rage that she actually activates her powers for the first time. She didn’t even see him hit the ground, yet still seems broken by the perceived loss.

However, when Marcy, her life-long friend, gets a giant flaming sword through the chest, uses what she thought would be her last breath to apologize, and collapses lifelessly to the floor, Anne simply shouts her name then basically goes, “Oh, I’m home now. Anyways-”

She has the shiny eyes here but doesn’t shed even a single tear until “All In” after Marcy is freed. Like, girl, you watched the friend that you’ve probably know longer than anyone except your own parents get brutally murdered 5 feet in front of you. How are you fine???

Of course it’s understandable for Anne to feel betrayed by Marcy after her truth is revealed. After all, she’s been trapped away from her home and family for 5 months and near-death experiences have become a worryingly routine thing for her in Amphibia.

The thing is that, with Sasha, despite her trying to knowingly and intentionally kill Hop Pop (and at one point Sprig), Anne still later said that “Sasha and I might be going through a rough patch, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about her” (S2 E6). Plus, after Sasha showed a little remorse then let go of her hand at Toad Tower, letting herself plummet so her friend could get away, Anne was sobbing just a minute later. She even saw Grime catch her so she knew Sasha was going to be okay.

The most logical conclusion Anne should’ve come to after going through that portal was that Marcy was dead. Yet, we’ve seen her get far more worked up about someone that, not only also betrayed her, but was clearly saved and alive. And, in earlier episodes, Anne seemed so much closer to and more protective of Marcy than Sasha… So I’m honestly confused.

As far as season 3 episodes 1-15, I wanna believe that Anne was simply in denial and didn’t want to bring it up, but it’s stuff like her being “stabbed” by the toy flame sword (in “Escape to Amphibia”) and simply laughing that make it hard for me to genuinely think that. When I just saw that happen through a screen I froze and stopped breathing for a second and it took me a bit to compose myself after. But Anne lived through both the actual event and the reminder yet didn’t react?

Also when Sasha passingly mentioned that Marcy was still alive, just captured, Anne simply sighed and said “thank goodness” before changing the topic. Like????

Now for “The Beginning of the End” :D

When first faced with Darcy, Anne (and Sasha kinda, but her reaction is more expected/normal for her tbh and imma not focus on her here anyway) was initially confused but, once she knew the jist of what was happening, she was just angry. She didn’t take a second to mourn or feel bad for her friend and skipped straight to getting mad. I was expecting some sort of guilt for not getting there earlier and maybe even an attempt at an “I know you’re in there!” speech (I wouldn’t want it to work but I feel like Anne would’ve been one to try that), but guess not.

‘Intellectual Property’ thoughts

i already wrote something about this album, but after listening to it on repeat for a week, i have some more things to say.

before i go straight into the track by track, i wanna say that i really love the album. and i wasn’t expecting to. i listened to it on Friday with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying it, especially the deep cuts. and the more i listened to it, the more i loved it. and even after a week i keep finding things hidden in the songs, effects, little details that make me love each of them more.

Favorite song: still Closer. sorry.

the first time I heard this song i hated the autotune in it, but the more i listened to it, the less i cared about it. there is so much going on production-wise, it now distracts me from the autotune. i mean, this bass track is insane, i really love it. i know Awsten said he referenced Fuzzy a lot in this track, but i think there’s a difference between referencing and using the same concept. i like that he took the concept of ‘demons driving a limo to his window’ and shifted it into him becoming a ‘demon’ and driving his love interest crazy by grabbing ‘the wheel’ (ie: control) of the relationship and taking it whenever he wants it to go.

speaking of the lyrics… i know he’s probably talking about some relationship with a girl, but i can’t help but wonder if the line ‘i signed somebody’s NDA’ is about Elijah maybe. because they seemed to be really close friends (like, they hung out all the time) and then all of a sudden they didn’t speak anymore and neither of them said anything about it. that was super weird. also the lines ‘LA’s such a fucking weird place’ and ‘you can’t hide my face but save me for a rainy day’ make me think of the song they wrote together, Rainy Days In LA. but i could be completely wrong… most likely.

and i already talked about this, but i really like the abrupt ending and how that plays into Real Super Dark.

Real Super Dark

the music in this track is insane. the vocals are good too, i just hate the way Awsten scream sounds. i’ve said this before, but to me, he sounds like an enraged poodle when he’s screaming and i find it both comical and annoying. the lyrics have some cringe-worthy moments much in the same way Numb did, what with the Coldplay and the scummy-dummy-whatever-the-fuck-he’s-saying lines. here we have the Otto ‘serial-killing’ him line that unnecessarily drags along the entire song (although, i have to admit the line ‘Otto, I’m sorry, stop’ reminds me of the “Louisiana Hotel” video and i find that somewhat endearing.) but the rest of the lyrics are okay. oh, and i really love the da-da-das too.

i mean, what i really love about this song, and why i think it’s so fucking good even though i hate Awsten’s scream, is that it feels like what the lyrics are about. does that make sense? I mean, he says ‘i wake up and i’m up and i’m down’ and the song is literally a rollercoaster: it goes heavy with the guitars and the screaming and then it has the very soft da-da-das and he goes from screaming to falsetto and vice versa. it sounds exactly like being angry one moment, then being okay at the next, then angry again, then like you don’t give a fuck anymore. and i don’t know how Awsten achieved that, or if he was intentionally trying to, but he got it and he got it right.

Funeral Grey

musically this song is so summery and perfect. it’s great to jump and dance too, and even sing along too if you can pretend to not understand the lyrics. like, the vocal melody just feels so nice to sing along to, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, it makes you go yikes :/ boi why.

and i know Awsten’s fragile ego gets butthurt whenever we criticise his lyrics, but it’s really his fault we’re so demanding with them. we got two albums packed with perfectly crafted lyrics (‘Double Dare’ and ‘Entertainment’) only for him to get ‘dumber’ with time, it just doesn’t make sense. and it’s kinda disappointing. i know this song is supposed to be lighthearted and fun, but lyrics just fall flat.

(i legit spent ten minutes just trying to come up with an example of how he already made lighthearted and fun lyrics but honestly? every Parx song is so packed with emotion, i couldn’t come up with one.)

you know how this song feels? like Fruit Roll Ups. music? insane. lyrics? burn them to the ground until there’s nothing left.

Brainwashed

this song is perfect. music is incredible, vocals are amazing. the lyrics are good. again, a very dancy, jump-along-to song. yes.

also, finally we get a good riff, like, FINALLY. we all know they both can shred, why the fuck is he constantly holding back on riffs and solos is beyond me. the bass track: crazy. and i love it when he sings fast, so… this song is a 10/10 for me, there’s nothing that could make it better, it’s perfect.

(i hate the way he pronunces ‘syndrome’ but it’s still perfect.)

2 Best Friends

we~eeell… i talked about this one already. it sounds like an unfinished demo. and i say ‘unfinished’ because we’ve heard Awsten’s demos; they can sound like they were recorded on a potato, alright, but never unfinished.

the lyrics are… meh, but they get the point across. i really enjoy the juxtaposition of how happy the song sounds with the lyrics ‘it didn’t work and i feel like shit / wake up tomorrow and try again’. that moment feels like a shrug emoji, and i kinda love it, honestly. also, i really like the little synth/piano melody that plays at the end of the chorus; it’s refreshing.

but, yeah, generally this is the weakest song in the album. then again, if we compare it with ‘Greatest Hits’, it’s not even that much of a low point. i feel like LIKE IT is more of a disappointment within ‘Greatest Hits’ than 2 Best Friends is for ‘Intellectual Property’. and i really like LIKE IT.

End Of The Water (Feel)

i love this song. it’s really good. i absolutely adore the line ‘why can’t we act like you and i are alive at the same time’. like, yes, why are human beings so complicated. then again, it shouldn’t be complicated. so if it feels like a lot of work it’s probably not meant to be.

philosophical tangents aside, this is a good song. i can see it becoming a fan favorite (speaking of, i should probably do a poll soon.) i really like how funky it sounds. i kinda keep imagining what it would sound like if Ross Lynch sang it.

Self-Sabotage

i absolutely loved this song from day one. the lyrics are brutally honest and genuine. i love seeing Awsten not putting himself as the victim for once. not to overlook on the fact that he’s a fucking dick, i don’t care how much your heart got broken, it doesn’t justify you being horrible to someone else. it’s not a valid defence mechanism, you’re just an asshole.

back to the music: love it. impossible not to jump to the chorus every single time, it’s so catchy. also, i never thought i’d say this, but i kinda love how breathy Awsten’s voice is in this one.

i also really like the line ‘i want this to work so bad / but i want what i can’t have’.

Ritual

boy this song is… a lot. in a good way. i like that it’s only three verses that repeat, and all of them are fucking gems. but my favorite part is the build up to the bridge + the bridge + the outro: it sounds insane. lights off, headphones on. there’s so much going on. i love the strings and the panning is insane. did Zakk Cervini produce this one too? cheers, bro, it’s incredible.

one thing i wish he did is hold a scream right after ‘shut the fuck up’ during the outro. but i understand that’s not what Awsten does and honestly, with his screaming it wouldn’t be that good. but with a good screamer… ooohhhh boy.

Fuck About It

another one i liked from the first listen. i talked about this before: i like bear’s voice but i hate bear’s verse. it does not fit well with the rest of the song. it is cringy as fuck and also it says things Awsten would neverrrr. but whatever, the song sounds good. i really like bear’s high harmonies on the second chorus.

one thing i never understood was why people went crazy over the last ‘baby’, though. like… it’s not that impressive, or sexy, or anything. i would be more impressed if he would’ve belted it, Royal stylez.

Closer

this song is… an infinite/10. it’s so fucking perfect, i’m so glad they’re playing it on the in-store acoustic shows. it deserves all the fucking love it can get. my favorite thing is the subtle strings in it. i love how vulnerable the lyrics are. and i know Awsten is gonna be all like ‘yOU oNLy LikE mE wHEn i’M hurTInG’ which is not fucking true. we like you better when you’re honest, not when you’re trying to be clever.

this song is honest and it’s vulnerable, and it feels like he’s finally being able to bare his soul and heart even though it hurts and it makes him feel like shit. it kinda makes me think of Crybaby, the way it feels.

it’s so good. i especially love how soft the last chorus is; here’s another good example of Awsten’s voice becoming breathy, but i think this time is because he’s singing too soft to hit that note and so his voice gives out. but it makes for a cool effect. it makes me want to hug him and telling him it’s all gonna be okay.

A Night Out On Earth

what a fucking good album closer. i mean. stars all around. yes. the music is amazing, the lyrics are so good, there’s a couple lines here that are just a slap on the face (in a good way.)

all of Waterparks’ closing tracks are amazing. well— See You In The Future has some cringy lyrics (most of it, honestly.) but the rest of the closing tracks are awesome, so it’s really not surprising that this one is also stellar.

i fucking love the lines: ‘i turn pain into rent and sing along’, ‘life gave me lemons now i bleed lemonade’, ‘now i just wanna fall asleep in my own’, and ‘was i loved or was i right?’

but generally all the lyrics are good. i like this song a lot. the guitar riff/solo over the last chorus/outro… yes. also, that Fish feature. babies <3 i love Fish he’s such a cool guy. I like how that plays with the line ‘i ain’t jumping out the window’ because it reinforces its meaning: that he’s come so far and he’s not done yet.

so, i said this at the very beginning but overall: the album is good. and it sounds good as it is. i loved ‘FANDOM’ but it was a little messy, i re-ordered it in a way that it tells the story of him falling in love and then the relationship going sour (kinda like what he did with ‘Intellectual Property’.) and i also had to re-order ‘Greatest Hits’ so that it tells the story of Awsten slowly losing his mind (is the only way i listen to the album now, otherwise it gets boring to me.)

what i love about ‘Intellectual Property’ is that every song in it feels deliberate. as if he sat down to write a good album; an album that told a story instead of just info-dumping us his problems in the form of songs. Awsten learned the ‘less is more’ lesson.

i really hope they get their top 10. they deserve it. even if not for this album alone, but for ‘Double Dare’ and ‘Entertainment’. for Parx history. for Awsten not selling out and making a pop-punk record. thank. god. he didn’t. that would’ve been extremely disappointing.

anyway, i am rambling. i’m gonna finish this up by saying: this is a fucking good record. and if you don’t like it right now it’s totally fine, it’s completely valid. but give a moment. let it breathe. come back to it. you still hate it? give it more time. let it breathe again. come back to it, come back to it a thousand times, it’s worth it.

screaming about SitD - ramble on moral grey areas and vampirism and blood

Content Warnings: mention of drugs both use and dealing, and murder, that… is honestly about it. The murder bit is par for the course but I don’t usually dig into Moira’s list so obligate drug mention warning.

Additional reminder that I am writing fiction, character belief to author belief is not a 1-1 ratio.

Friend wanted to know about why my vampires were okay with killing people but not okay with stealing blood if that was a viable workaround to murder. This brought about via some previous conversations surrounding Isaac’s relationship to Alex and also the vamp!house as a whole. Brief interlude about the Lost Boys since they are the original blueprint for what my vampires eventually became.

And within that, the reason they Don’t Do that is primarily because Daniel takes issue with it and as far as the remaining Vamp!House is concerned, he’s as much in charge as it gets (which to be fair, is Not Much, but it’s not Nothing either). I’m just realizing that oddly enough 2/3 of the Chaos Trio blood they do take comes from Isaac and Tom who could not donate blood normally anyway because of MSM restrictions. There is also the argument to be made for taking a non-lethal amount of blood from someone and then messing their memory around until they won’t have questions about it, but again, Daniel is more against the whole Mind Fuckery shit than he is against murder at this point.

Re: The Lost Boys you can be mean about my bastard children I don’t care I used to have auditory hallucinations of Paul as a young teenager that annoyed me so much I threatened to kill him on a regular basis. But yeah they are, cavalier is a good word, indiscriminate is another but also it doesn’t quite fit to me just because as far as in-universe goes we only see them kill people who have fucked with them in some way or another. First being the security guard who kicked them off the boardwalk, second and third being the Surf N*zi’s who were fucking with them on the carousel and who the book confirms they have additional shit with already. But yeah. The boys don’t care about human life enough for people like Star, Michael, etc. We never see Max kill but I do not doubt that a lot of the missing posters aren’t just from the Boys.

ENOUGH ABOUT MY NON OC BASTARD CHILDREN

point at hand, they have reasons. not necessarily good or good or morally correct reasons, but such is unlife.

Daniel is… more than a little desensetized at this point. He did so much worse under Amalthea that a single death every other week or so does not weigh heavy on him. For the most part. There are days it’s too much. There are moments his own cowardice gets to him (is it worth living for all this ruin?). But there are people relying on him staying alive. That comes first (they come first).

Jesse and Moira are a touch different in that they have… a handful of rules followed more often than not. Piled up justifications or excuses or both. Call them what you want.

Jesse is a constant case of weighed options. He’s the one keeping an eye on bigots and hate crimes and going “Hmmm. Okay, too many. You’re done.” is the bar of what constitutes “too many” constantly changing? Yeah. Is too many One more often than not? Also yeah. He keeps a list. It’s sometimes disheartening that it never really gets shorter. Moira joins him on this a lot of the time.

Moira isn’t entirely apart from Daniel’s mostly indiscriminite if unlikely to be investigated murder, but when she is there are specific types she’s going after. This kinda came up organically when I was moving the story to central VT for the sake of my own location-knowledge— Moira knocks off drug dealers, mainly those putting out heroin and fentanyl because those are the things that hit home for myself and the people I’m close to. If someone is lining their pockets with death, as far as Moira is concerned they’re getting what’s coming to them. It’s a smaller list than Jesse’s, but it’s something she keeps an eye on.

This method of theirs has on occassion gotten the household into hot water when someone who is actually avoiding arrest ends up dead falling off the face of the earth. That’s partially why the household has the arrangement they do with Jonathan Davies, if someone goes missing who needs to properly turn up dead, they work that out with him and Theo.

I’ll keep Alex somewhat brief as we explore their reservations about murder… a lot in the actual text. Immediately post-killing their parents they subsist mainly off of blood donated by Isaac. They know that by no means does the rest of the household just kill innocent people all of the time, but that doesn’t mean they don’t. It takes some adjusting. Eventually they fall into a routine that mirrors their arrival, they walk at night, they let someone try to hurt them, and that doesn’t go so well for whoever tries it.

Re: Vent Art

Moira does art constantly, I mention in one of Alex’s first scenes at the house that the living room is essentially wall-to-wall paintings all stylistically different from each other, only linked by Moira’s little gold MH signature in the corner. She fucks around in every medium she can get her hands on. Sometimes it’s vent art, sometimes it’s not. There was a period shortly after she made the decision to become a vampire that it was entirely vent art because she missed the sun so fucking badly. Later on she just decides to be up during daylight anyways, wrapped in a blanket cocoon and watching the light out the windows until her eyes hurt. The first time she discovers that new england cloud cover is heavy enough in the wintertime to feel like daylight when it’s snowing is like coming alive again. (It’s also a really sweet moment for the whole house as that’s the first time Daniel has seen daylight in decades)

Jesse writes. He’s a little… hmmm, less affected by the whole thing, I think, than most. But I think that’s mostly because what he got out of this was the chance to live and also the love of his life? He’s a little bit biased. And again, he has set out pretty specific rules for himself as far as who dies. That being said, he’s a writer, things spill over. I speak from experience both in that things you think aren’t an issue weave their way into your writing, and that Jesse and I are similar enough that writing is his default coping mechanism when things are Affecting Him.

Moira and Jesse make a comic together.

Jesse considers writing an instant gratification art form, and Moira is the one with the actual patience to deal with his mess of ideas and help get them to a point that makes sense in a visual medium.

AddiHart Comics is their project baby. It’s the origin of me calling them the Vamp!House because that’s what they call themselves there. They write silly little slice of life shit that would be 90% the same as every other iteration of that except for the “Oh by the way, vampires”. They have yet to tell Daniel about this, it’s been ongoing for about half a decade. (In truth, he found out about it through Sarah, but he’s not going to spoil the “secret”)

I like having a little in-universe nod to their backstories.

Daniel doesn’t really make vent art, but Daniel also has approximately 0 healthy coping skills and is only in the last decade or so getting better about not Fully Shutting Down any discussion of the Horrors that live in his head and his heart. He does read though. Like, a lot. An alarming amount. He’s a sucker for his silly little pile of romance paperbacks. There is a reason his “bedroom” is wall to wall bookshelves.

So, yeah.
