if you mean r/dc it's because people on there don't read comics. like you're gonna find Kaldur more interesting than Garth if you've only seen YJ but that's because you've never read any good aquafam comics (or any comic made post rebirth).

'Kaldur' isn't even the same character as Jackson lol. they have completely opposite arcs in YJ and the Teen Titans run he's introduced in but somehow people still talk about them as if they're one and the same.

Oh trust me, mate, I know. I saw a meme just a few days ago (not related to Aquafam) that went something like:

"Galaxy brain: Tim Drake doesn't work as a character anymore because he was a self insert for 90s comics readers and no one reads comics anymore."

And while I obvious think there's more nuance to it than that (sorry Batfam followers for using this as an example-- I love Tim), I sadly also agree with the sentiment that a lot of people-- especially on r/DC-- do not actually bother to read the comics. So many people are attached to the '03 animated series and Young Justice. And that would be fine, if only they didn't position themselves as "experts" on the characters. Like yeah, Garth in YJ was boring as shit and I only like maybe one singular thing about his portrayal there. So if that's your only frame of reference, of course you'll think he's lame in comparison to Kaldur. I just wish those types of people wouldn't then claim that they have such a Big Brain opinion on Garth since it's obvious to any of us who have actually read his stuff that their opinion sucks lol

(And yeah, I feel like a lot of people still don't realize that Jackson and Kaldur are different characters... Obviously, Jackson was introduced to capitalize off the success of Kaldur, but they are far and away EXTREMELY different characters. Which doesn't help Jackson either, frankly, because people were expecting what they saw in YJ and then... didn't get that.)

Season 3 Episode 4

Spoilers ahead

Ah Toy/Nellie/Lai—The beginning of the episode broke my heart all over again. So much death and destruction! Even worse is the rift it caused between Ah Toy and Nellie. Ah Toy blaming Nellie and herself for indulging in this fantasy that was too good to be true. In season 2 she pushed Nellie away because it wasn’t safe in Chinatown. Now she’s pushing Nellie away because it’s not  safe for them outside of Chinatown. Ah Toy leaving after telling Nellie “Happy mean nothing if you are dead.” Fucking hell. 

Chinatown is more dangerous than ever, but it’s Ah Toy’s domain, where she feels in control. Staring in the mirror, covering up her wounds and trauma with makeup, wearing her dress like armor. Back to square one again and it sucks. I agree with Ah Sahm, let’s go after those bastards!We also see the darkness in Lai rising again, poor baby. I guessed that Ah Toy’s line was gonna be the title, “In Chinatown, no one think about forever.” More bad news from Bill when he told her he can’t protect her from the new police chief. Our girl can’t catch a fucking break.

Finally, Nellie is crushed when that judge took her away their land as “imminent domain.” She starting to see the limits of her power as a wealthy white woman, because of sexism duh. The fucking audacity of Dickhead to be like “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Nellie was unhinged and dragged his ass in front of everyone. Flashbacks to Penny and Buckley last season…please don’t throw her in an asylum! It wasn’t surprising that he bribed the judge. If he did that, then what’s the point of attacking the vineyard and killing innocent women?? Male ego and pettiness, that’s what! I hope we’ll see Ah Toy and Nellie  together again next episode. They need each other more than ever now! Ah Toy is understandably shaken, but she’ll get her revenge! I hope they make it slow and painful for Dickhead. Though, I’m worried about his whip-wielding evil henchman.

Hop Wei— This money printing scheme was clearly trouble from the beginning. Especially because YJ wasn’t even trying to be subtle or careful. Still, watching racist cops raid the Hop Wei and beating YJ was beyond awful. Warrior has never pulled any punches regarding the racism and corruption in this era. Which, sadly, still happens today. Bill is starting to grow on me, only because Atwood is so incredibly terrible. If words and spit counts as “assaulting” then he’s a weak ass punk! In the end, YJ is taken away by the police.

Ah Sahm/Yan Mi— Meanwhile, Ah Sahm and Yan Mi are trying to sneak away with the press and evidence. Ah Sahm has to knock out some cops along the way. Very satisfying to watch, after all the shit they were doing to the Hop Wei. Thank Chao for being in right place at the right time. Yan Mi is understandably upset at being dragged into danger like this. On the other hand, they’re a Tong what did you expect? She and Ah Sahm argue, then kiss, then have sex. It’s the second time Ah Sahm had gotten sticky while YJ is having a crisis (FJ nearly dying in season 1). Really curious how this is gonna play out. Ah Sahm doesn’t have the best track record with romance.

Long Zhii—*Sigh* Mai Ling, Mai Ling, Mai Ling. Cockiness is a family trait with her and Ah Sahm, huh. I understand her idea of doing business with white people, but she was getting waaaay too comfortable. Yeah you’re a big deal in Chinatown, but white people will only see you as a Chinese woman. A pity project for them to indulge, or an exotic sexual plaything. Mai Ling had to learn that the hard way. Still, she didn’t deserve to be arrested and deported because of a white man’s lies!

Other Thoughts— Power, who has it, and how they use it is obviously the main theme this season. Marginalized people who cultivate even a little bit power are always at risk of losing it. Rich white men at the top are the real enemies (aka water is wet). Both YJ and Mai Ling are in jail, I wonder what will happen to their tongs. Will they finally establish a common ground after this? How will these characters fight back against a racist and corrupt system? They’ve endured so much pain and trauma in these past episodes. Hopefully things will improve for them later on.

both you and Dick walked out of Gotham Academy, laughing at some stupid joke he made as the two of you walked to the nearest coffee shop. the two of you religiously bought coffee and hung out every Thursday after school until it was time to head home.

you and Dick, unknown to each other9, had commitments to the YJ team and usually had to meet the team later in the night and today happened to be one of those days. 

you really weren’t in the mood to go out for a patrol tonight but on Saturday, you had accepted to be Dick’s date to the winter formal Gotham Academy was holding and you had to excuse yourself from patrolling duties for the night. 

you knew Diana would have no issue in you missing for one night but the team on the other hand would probably throw a fit for it. 

whenever there was time to lounge around, you usually hid behind a domino mask and a beanie to cover your hair. your uniform on the other hand was very much like Wally’s. it pulled over your head and covered some of your face and most of your hair so it went unnoticed by everyone. 

you were very similar to Robin in that aspect. the two of you hid your identities extremely well and no one outside of your mentors knew who you truly were. Wonder Woman had especially emphasized that a kid still in school should not reveal their real identity and if you wanted to once you turned 18, you could, but until then, she made you swear to never reveal who you were.

“what has you in such deep thought?” Dick asked, giving you a smile. you shook your head, “nothing. just stuff with school,” you replied. Dick had saw the bruises and cuts on your legs that you tried to hide, “you have more bruises?” he asked. 

“I told you my MMA training went hard last night,” you exclaimed, “I had a partner that was double my size and she nearly wanted to kill me,” you tried to joke. 

you could tell that Dick wasn’t believing what you were saying, “but you shouldn’t be the one to talk! you have a gash running down your arm! don’t think I didn’t notice,” you retaliated. he immediately tried to explain himself, “acrobatics is an intense hobby!” he replied. 

you gave him a look before shoving him playfully onto the grass. Dick pushed you back as the two of you finally arrived to the coffee shop. you put your bag down in the booth before meeting Dick at the line. 

“just be careful! those cuts and bruises look intense,” he said a bit more seriously. you squeezed his arm in agreement, “of course but same goes for you. the gash on your arm looks pretty deep,” you stated, running your finger on the now healing gash. 

he paid for both of your drinks and the two of you made your way to the booth and took out your books. 

you had befriended Dick when he first arrived to Gotham Academy. since he was the adopted son to Bruce Wayne, everyone wanted to befriend the son of the man who ran Gotham with an iron fist. you on the other hand had to befriend him because you were the captain of the Mathlete’s team.

that was the club Dick first wanted to join and although he didn’t know exactly how to join, he saw that you were in his AP Calc BC class and saw the jacket you carried around with the medals you on won on it. he quietly followed you to the auditorium that day and scooped out the team before embarrassingly introducing him and explaining why he wanted to join.

you instantly clicked with him and tried him out for the team for a few days when you realized that he was probably the second smartest on the team. he won a plaque on his first round of tournaments and gained honoree status not long after. 

“god, I feel like Brunner is killing us with the amount of work he’s giving us,” you growled into your textbook, “does he not realize that people have lives and jobs?” you continued to complain. 

Dick shook his head, “not like he cares. he’s just a bitter old man who wants to make us suffer,” he admitted. you laughed, accidentally choking on your coffee by the comment, “it’s true! he knows everyone is excited about the formal so he probably piled on work to make us suffer,” Dick continued. 

you threw him your paper as he quickly dodged it. the two of you worked through the worksheets until you felt your communicator go off. you discreetly looked down and saw that Kaldur was calling everyone to Mount Justice for a new mission. 

“hey Dick, I have to go,” you admitted a bit sadly, “my mom wants me home to babysit my niece and she needs me home in a few minutes.” Dick nodded understandingly, “yeah, Bruce seems like he needs me home too. see you tomorrow?” he asked, “of course!” 

the two of you practically darted in different directions as you ran to the nearest zeta tube location. it was inside of an old building as you quickly discarded your uniform, putting it inside of your bag as you pulled on your other uniform. 

as soon as you arrived to Mount Justice, you saw everyone crowding around the table that Red Tornado was explaining the mission at. you stood next to Kaldur and Connor, flashing them an ‘i’m sorry for being really late’ smile. Kaldur patted your shoulder as the table shut off after the instructions were finished. 

“so, the pairs are, Wally, Artemis and I, Connor and M’Gann, and ( your name ) with Robin,” Kaldur explained, “since both of you know Gotham Academy well, the two of you will be patrolling inside the school while Connor and M’gann gather the information we need from the teacher.” 

you and Robin high-fived, quickly getting on the motorcycles and racing towards the school. you weren’t particularly close with Robin but when the two of you were a team, it was nearly impossible to stop the two of you. the chemistry when you both fought together didn’t go unnoticed by anyone and Kaldur tended to pair you up together when he knew Wally and Robin would goof off the whole time. 

“so, you go to Gotham Academy?” Robin asked. you nodded, “I do! I had no idea you went there,” you replied, “I wonder if we’ve ever met each other,” Robin joked. 

you gave him a look, “please, I doubt it. I get the sense that you’d probably be really popular and I am the farthest from that,” you admitted. Robin gave you a look, “trust me, I am not popular. are you in any clubs?” Robin asked. 

a part of you screamed to tell him but another part of you told you no, “I am but for the sake of keeping my identity a secret, I would rather not say,” you said empathetically. Robin waved your off, “no, I completely understand. the Bat would kill me if he found out someone knew who I was,” you couldn’t help but laugh, “yeah, Wonder Woman would lasso me into another dimension if I did the same.” 

once the two of you parked your motorcycles into the parking lot and sneaked your way inside. you both landed by the auditorium and started to walk around. 

the patrolling went by with mild conversation. since you had to inform Kaldur about both of you coordinates every few minutes, that was probably the only time you spoke up. it wasn’t until you passed the glass shelves that held all of the Mathlete trophies that you made a sudden stop. 

“do you know someone on the team?” Robin asked, gulping his nervousness down a bit. “yeah, I have two friends on the team. one of which I think I like,” you admitted sheepishly. 

Robin gave you a smirk, “oh, tell me! tell me! I want to know!” he exclaimed excitedly. you shoved him against the wall, “no! because if you know him? then you’re going to tell him!” you whisper-yelled. Robin waved you off, basically begging you to tell him, “fine, if I tell you then you’re going to have to swear that you’ll never tell him,” you stated. 

he nodded as you discreetly opened the glass door and took the photo out, “it’s Dick Grayson. he’s so....” you trailed off not knowing to what to say as you stared at the photo mesmerized. Robin remained silent, standing as stiff as a board, “really?” he whispered. 

“yeah, is that an issue?” you asked, a bit surprised by his reaction, “no, not at all. plus, I can’t even lie, the person I’ve been dying to ask out is also on the team,” your eyebrows fluttered to confusion as stared at him, “I told you who my crush is so it’s only fair you tell me!” you said. 

Robin shook his head no, “AH! nope! you’re telling me! I told you my crush on Dick and now you have to tell me! plus, I didn’t know you were gay,” you said off-handedly. Robin stared at you now in more confusion, “I’m not? not that there would be an issue with that if I was but regardless, where did you get that idea?” he asked. 

you held back your laugh, “I mean, the team is mostly guys unless you have a crush on her,” you pointed to yourself jokingly. Robin didn’t say anything as the silence basically answered your question, “wait, do you have a crush on her?” you asked a bit more seriously now. 

“yeah, it’s her. she’s in a few of my classes and my god, she’s gorgeous,” he said “everything I look in for a girl.” your heart stopped dead in it’s tracks as Robin’s communicator went off indicating that Connor and M’Gann got what they needed. 

you hadn’t said much after Robin had confessed his crush to you. you had no idea that it was going to be you who he was and although now you were dying to know his true identity, you knew you shouldn’t even bother with it. plus, Robin probably felt the same way you did when you confessed your crush on Dick. 

after all of you told Red Tornado the information, you quickly departed from the team, telling them you had to be up at 6:00 to get ready for school. Robin could tell that after he admitted his crush to you, you felt a certain way about it but if anything, he should be the one weirded out. you had a crush on him! but considering your identity was sealed shut, he would never know who it really was that liked him unless he figured out your true identity. 

the next morning, you woke up and put on your uniform as you ran your fingers over the burgundy colored gown you were wearing tomorrow. you were beyond excited to be Dick’s date to the formal and you had to be at his place at five to catch dinner before the dance. 

once you made it to school, you greeted Dick with a smile, “mornin’ Grayson!” you said happily. he responded by putting his arm around you with the same amount of excitement you had, “what has you so excited today?” he asked. 

“nothing! just something you shouldn’t worry about! how was your night?” you asked. you felt Dick’s body go stiff as he tried to conjure up some lie, “fine! Bruce had me doing some work for Wayne Enterprises and it practically put me into the grave,” he joked. 

the two of you walked to your math class, slumping immediately into your seats as the morning announcements went off. you were doodling in your notebook as Dick kept muttering to himself about something you couldn’t quiet understand. 

throughout the entire day, you could sense that Dick’s attention was not exactly spot on. his mind seemed to be on cloud nine and once the end of the day came, he had a bunch of theories written inside of his notebook about ( your hero name ) and who could she possibly be. 

“Dick, you’ve been off all day!” you said now a bit annoyed, “is something wrong?” you asked again. he shook his head no, “no, I’m more than okay! just excited about tomorrow is all,” he replied. you nodded, “me too! I’ll be at your house around five so we can eat dinner and head to the dance,” you mentioned as you saw your mom pull up. 

“see ya tomorrow!” Dick exclaimed.

first thing Saturday morning, your mom shook you awake. she said that your stylist would be here any minute to get your hair/makeup done and you needed to shower before then. 

you quickly hopped into the shower while you pulled on some pajamas for the time being. as soon as you got out, you brushed your hair and teeth before walking to the living room to see the stylist preparing her things on the kitchen table. 

“ready love?” she asked sweetly. you nodded, “ready as ever!” you replied as you sat down. 

the time she did your hair, you were making small talk until you heard a knock on the door. your mom mentioned she’d get it and went to the door. when she got back, she was holding a bag of food. 

“I think Dick sent you food,” she joked as she read the note, “oh yeah, it was 100% him,” she said as she showed you the note. 

“can’t wait for tonight! your favorite from Scouts is inside of the boxes.” 

“aw, how sweet of him!” your stylist said, “yeah, he’s one of a kind,” you said not realizing what you were saying. your mom could see the love for him in your eyes and swooned silently. 

after your hair was done, you had basically devoured the food before your stylist got to work on your makeup. this time, it didn’t take as much time. by the time she finished, you had about an hour to put on your dress and do the finishing touches to your look before you had to leave. 

the dress was short from the front as it got longer from the back. it kind of dragged but that was what made you fall in love with it in the first place. you pulled the dress from your closet and had your mom help you zip it up as she put on the necklace she wore the day of her winter formal on you. 

“you look amazing sweety! let me take a few photos before we head out!” 

you rolled your eyes playfully as you posed a few times. after you and her got into the car, you made your way to the manor. you had been there countless times and knew the gate code by memory by this point. you had messaged Dick that you were outside and saw him in the suit he was wearing. 

“wow, you look gorgeous,” Dick whispered, taking you in. you tried to shake off the compliment but you couldn’t as both Alfred and your mom told you to hold still as they took photos. it wasn’t long after that Bruce came out, introducing himself to your mom and instantly making her swoon, “I’ll see you tonight,” she told you as she gave Dick a look, “take care of my daughter,” she stated, now more seriously. 

Dick nodded nervously as Alfred led you into the dining room where the dinner was plated and ready to eat. it didn’t feel like a date as eating with Dick was not uncommon. this time, you both were just dressed extremely fancy. 

Alfred had made you steak and the two of you basically downed it like starving caveman. you and Dick made sure that you didn’t stain yourselves as Alfred informed that the car was warmed up and ready to take you to the dance. Dick had excused himself to the bathroom as Bruce stood in front of you. 

you gulped nervously as he basically towered over you, “please continue making my son happy,” was all he said before leaving back upstairs. you didn’t even get a chance to respond as Dick walked in and basically pulled you towards the car. 

the formal was already going when the two of you arrived. you could hear the music blaring from outside and in order to get in, you had to pass the ‘paparazzi’ Gotham Academy set up. you two annoyingly took the photos that were being taken by people from the yearbook team and entered the auditorium. 

you smiled at Dick as you both found a few of your mutual friends and sat down with them. the night was one you knew you weren’t going to forget as Dick had his arm around you the entire time. you could feel him squeezing your shoulder every time he noticed someone checking you out. 

“I love this song!” you exclaimed, hearing ‘New Light’ by John Mayer playing, “wanna dance?” he asked. you instantly nodded and walked onto the dance floor. 

“Oh I want a take two. I wanna break through. I wanna know the real thing about you so I can see you in a new light.”

the two of you danced, a bit closer than you intended but not that you were complaining. 

song after song came and it wasn’t until you heard a beep going off when you realized what was happening. it was the teams communicator indicating that Kaldur wanted everyone at Mount Justice again. you sighed knowing if you didn’t answer, you’d probably get berated for skipping out. 

secondly, you had told Kaldur unless it was an emergency, not to contact you so it must’ve been urgent if he was. you stared at Dick who was standing by the table, staring at something when you realized you had to break the news to him. 

“hey Dick, there was an emergency at home and I need to leave like right now.” you felt tears pricking your eyes as you just wanted to tell the team to fuck off for ruining your night with Dick, “it’s okay! Bruce called me just now and said something happened to Alfred and I should head home,” he said. 

you sighed in relief as you told him you hoped everything with Alfred was okay and you’d see him on Monday. it now had dawned on you that your spare uniform was inside of Mount Justice and you would have no time to get the one from your house. 

the only thing you had on you was your domino mask which you knew would make due until you changed into your uniform. you found the nearest zeta tube and teleported to Mount Justice. 

your hero name rang off through the telecom, catching everyone’s attention. you had slipped on your domino mask but your worst fear thus far came true. everyone was surrounding the zeta tube which you came from and saw your hair. 

“wow, you look great,” Connor and Wally murmured to themselves. Kaldur slapped them in the head as he stared at your apologetically, “I know tonight was your night off but Rob isn’t here either and we both need you for this mission. some of the league is on their way and we need their approval before we go save the kids who are being held hostage,” Kaldur explained. 

you heard Robin’s name ring through the lair as he ran in with urgency. you looked from Kaldur and stopped dead in your tracks when you saw him. it took Robin a few seconds to look at you but when he did, it was like he saw a ghost in front of him. 

behind his sunglass and your domino mask, it was like a stare off. you felt like the wind was knocked out of you and held onto the table to catch your balance as Robin just stood in place. 

“uh is something wrong?” Wally asked seeing your reactions. both you and Robin were stunned into silence as you didn’t know what to say. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman’s name now rang through the lair as they entered the main floor. 

they couldn’t help but wonder what was going on as a thick silence was hanging in the air. both Batman and Wonder Woman immediately realized the situation and looked at each other as they put two and two together. the two of you, unintentionally revealed your identities to each other, and Batman more than Wonder Woman knew the two of you were going to be together tonight but what he didn’t expect was that the two of you were going to the lair dressed in the outfits you both wore to the dance. 

“Superman will accompany you on the trip. ( your hero name ) and Robin will stay back,” everyone looked at Batman as Wonder Woman nodded and grabbed you by the shoulder, Batman doing the same with Robin, “why? what happened?” Wally exclaimed. 

“nothing that concerns you Flash, now follow Superman’s orders,” was all Batman said before taking you two into an empty room with Diana following behind you. 

as soon as the door shut, you stared at Dick, his mask now off as you did the same. you didn’t know how to feel. your crush, your best friend, someone you loved dearly this entire time was also on the team and you had no idea what to do. 

“so, as you can see we have a situation. both of you know each others identities and it’s best we keep it between each other. she now knows my real identity and will remain the only one who does know.” 

Diana nodded, “the two of you now hold each others biggest secret and I think it’s best we both leave so you can talk it out,” she mentioned as she escorted Batman out of the room to leave you guys alone. 

Dick stared at you as he tried to read your expression, “all this time we left each other for stupid reasons, we were meeting each other again, just in our different identities?” was what he said. you nodded, “were you ever going to tell me?” you whispered. 

Dick walked up to you and held you close, “truthfully, when the time was right and with the bat’s approval, I was. everything I’ve ever said, tonight, the night we patrolled school together, everything! I meant it. you’re my best friend. you’re also someone I want to keep by my side together,” he finally confessed. 

you stared up at Dick before doing the one thing you always wanted to do. you leaned up and kissed him deeply. he was completely taken back but kissed you back. your arms wrapped his neck as he brought you in even closer. 

“wow, this was not how I expected the night to go,” you murmured against his lips, “for sure but I mean, we have the lair tonight and it’s completely empty. I want to give you that final dance of the night,” he said as he grabbed your hand and led you to the main floor again. 

you stared at Dick and took his hand as he swayed you to the song you first danced back at the formal. 

“take a ride up to Malibu, I just wanna sit and look at you, look at you. what would it matter if your friends knew? who cares what other people say anyway.”

In Gotham Marinette goes by Marie Nygma

Marinette does design Eddie a better suit in a darker green three piece suit (After lecturing him about his neon green and magenta combo.) She does allow him to keep his color scheme:purple and green just in a better combination of shades. Aka darker green suit with a softer purple shirt, a black vest and a dark green tie. She even makes him a bowler to go with it. Sadly she cant get rid of the cane cause its Iconic to his image. At least he switched out the domino mask for a pair of dark purple shades/glasses. (She did twitch upon seeing them lol.)

She absolutely loves her father's assistance Query and Echo. They are her aunties because they refuse to leave Eddie to raise a daughter by himself even for the summer. Kids are a lot of work to care especially teens. Especially Teens who have their fathers IQ and levels of curiosity and insist on being his Watson/sidekick.

She goes by Puzzler when with him on cases (Yes I'm so original) and has an outfit she designed in pastel green and pink to match her dads outfit.

Marinette tries to keep the Miraculi a secret from her Papa but it's kinda hard when you live together in a tiny apartment over a even tinier PI Office.

Naturally before this Eddie is suspicious of the odd jewelry box Marinette brings with her from Paris. Because Marinette hardly ever wears jewelry even the bead bracelets and rings she makes for her clothes designs.

He finds out because funnily enough he catches Tikki exploring the PI office while Marinette is doing homework upstairs.

When he confronts her, Marinette spills everything. There are tears, hugs, more tears (they both are cryers when you get them going) and then finally a baking frenzy lead by Eddie so he doesnt go to Paris to hunt Hawkmoth and break his promise to Batman by killing someone.

He does talk with her about getting his and possibly Bats help on finding Hawkmoth especially after hearing about some of the Akumas she had to fight.

He does rant about boundaries when he hears about how pushy Chat was even if he was getting better after Marinette had a Talk with him. (It was the same Talk he had given Marinette when she called him about her first crush and he learned all the Stalking she did. He nipped that in the bud fast.)

Marinette is a lot like her Papa in personality and intelligence though she is less boastful and just more curious about everything. Taught herself how to hack at a young age after learning that Eddie is a computer genius. (She wanted to have something to share with her Papa. Eddie is still so proud)

The first meeting between her and Robin!Tim and Batman was interesting to say the least. Eddie got a case shortly after Marinette comes to live with him and heads to the crime scene with tiny Puzzler trailing after him. (Also she wears a pastel pink domino mask with white lenses because she may as well fit in if she is doing this side kick thing.)

Batman is very confused, almost visibly confused when he spots this tiny black haired and green/blue eyed girl next to Nygma at the crime scene when he and Tim show up. When did the PI get a sidekick?

"A sidekick Nygma?" "More like a tiny assistant. Bats, I would like to introduce you to my daughter, Puzzler." *moment of pause* "Your public records dont have her listed.." "I removed all traces of her after the mob started threatening her. She is usually in Paris with her adoptive parents but they asked me to watch her for the summer." "You are close with them?" "Yeah I was pretty young when her mother left her with me and her adoptive parents were nice enough to allow me in her life still."

Meanwhile: Mari circles around Robin like a shark while examining his costume and pointing out possible additions to it and flaws that could get him killed while asking him puzzling questions and little riddles to test his intelligence. The dads are watching amused while conversing while Robin is mildly alarmed by this tiny girl his age pointing out ways he could die by his own costume.

"How old is she?" "Just turned 15." "She is very inquisitive, I see she takes after you." "Thank you, Bats!"

The yj cartoon is what got me into DC in the first place and I still kinda like it. Well, more the first season because I feel like they had more, domestic scene? And I love that lmao. But yeah, I kinda never really liked their Conner, and now that I now more about the 90s Superboy.... YEAH. (Also to be honest when I watched the two first episode I thought that Kaldur and Conner could be cute together. But then... Yeah. Supermartian happened lmao.)

i can stand the first season but once the second one starts.........im out, the first one was tolerable because i remember almost all of it. i want to forget the 2nd and 3rd seasons

I’ve been thinking about this for a couple weeks now and I wish I could draw or animate - I’d freaking make shorts for it then. Sadly I’m just a writer (for now let’s see how desperate I get hahaha). AND YEAH LIKE THE DUCKTALES VIBE IS EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN!!!

I’ve got a few more ideas too:

The “Jason officially revealed as alive” episode is done in a ‘character wants to get to point B but keeps running into obstacles’ style. First it’s the stake out he’s been on way too long, then he has to help Steph out with something, then he sees Duke running into trouble, Damian asks for help smuggling another pet into the manor past Alfred’s keen eyes etc. And it ends with Jason wearing his normal every day clothes storming into his own press conference, barely making it.

Bab’s first POV episode is one of the later ones in which you see her go through her regular day at first, but she keeps getting messages from the other and directs them towards their goals. And Bab’s is oracle.

In general, I’d keep Cass as Batgirl, Steph as Spoiler and Babs as Oracle. Age wise I’d go with something like:

Bruce: 40; Barbara: 28; Dick: 26; Jason: 21; Cass: 21, Steph: 19; Tim: 18; Duke: 15; Damian: 12 and Alfred is of course immortal

Also No Joker. I don’t want to see even a hint of him in this show idc how Great™️ he is supposed to be.

We don’t get the whole family together in one episode until I’d say roughly episode 13, assuming one season would have 20 episodes. I don’t want to overwhelm the viewer with too many characters at once and give all of them at least an episode to actually show off their characterization. Which in turn means that I also don’t really want any outside characters/Teams in this show

Like I’m begging you DC make Tim’s YJ and Titans and Outlaws shows but I don’t want them here

I want a Clayface and Riddler team up cause I think they could create a rather interesting mystery together

And Harley & Ivy!!! Causing terror together! And Two-face.

Oh yeah I also definitely want this to be mystery/detective focused. Let them be detectives!!! Not just Batarang blazing heroes but them utilizing all they have, even their civilian identities.

And yes civilian identities is something utilized here. One episode being done in a sorta spy movie style expect their cover identities at what the civilian personas. And a Damian focused episode of him solving a case in his school which is not treated as a comedic filler or anything

I’m borrowing from Fullmetal Alchemist here but “Be thou for the people. Yes, I want some conflict tying everything together in the background, but I also want to show the little things. That they are heroes for their city and it’s people first and take it seriously, even if it’s just saving kittens

Once I’ve got a solid plan - or even a proper pilot episode, I’ll come back to this

So...just finished wrapping up the season finale of Young Justice Outsiders

With Young Justice Outsiders being officially done now, I’m going to give my honest opinion of the entire series and I’m going to be blunt here folks:

Outsiders was pretty great. I enjoyed it a lot. However, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Invasion and the original first season. 

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to say the season itself was underwhelming---I’m just saying that there were certain things that the other first seasons did better than Outsiders for me.

One of my biggest beef with this season is how it didn’t do a good job at letting us get to know the new characters like Tracie 13, for example. If it wasn’t for the fact that I knew about Tracie through my love for Blue Beetle, I would have absolutely zero idea who she is. And what sucks is that Outsiders didn’t do a good job at introducing her to me as part of the audience. 

Even after one whole season, I don’t know anything about Tracie beyond the bare minimum that she’s canonically the girlfriend of Blue Beetle and has powers. 

For people like me who aren’t familiar with her character, I wish the series could’ve done a better job at setting her up---allowing me to get to know her first. This is how I was able to fall for Blue Beetle. In Invasion, we were introduced to newbies like Blue and Bumblebee. Same for Impulse and Invasion did a good job at setting these guys up and developing them. 

Blue of course got it better since he was a focal character of S2. Sadly Tracie 13 isn’t the only character who suffered from this. There were Whisper and Oprhan too.  Unless you’re a Batman fan, you might not know these characters at all. Even now, after this whole season, I’m like WHO ARE YOU guys? Who are you supposed to be? 

I guess I can look into them now but you get what I’m saying right? Maybe next season we can get a chance to know more and see more from these new characters. Speaking of next season:

Young Justice S4...when?

With the way how things ended off, I’m hoping S4 is a sure thing. I sincerely hope it’s in the cards. Now before I close things off with this post, I’m just going to unapologetically screech things that went through my mind while watching the final few episodes of Outsiders. Apologies for the ALL CAPS:

BRION! GODDAMMIT MAN! 26 EPISODES! 26 GODDAMN EPISODES OF PLOT AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ALL GONE TO SHIT! DUDE! WHAT THE F*** WITH THAT ENDING! WHYYY? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE WHOLE TWO EPISODES BEFORE WHERE HE WAS TALKING ABOUT PATIENCE AND SHIT! YES I KNOW HE WAS BEING MANIPULATED BUT SERIOUSLY MAN! DAMMIT BRION I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU!

WALLY! FREAKING WALLY WEST. THANK GOODNESS THEY CONFIRMED THAT YOU’RE TECHICALLY STILL NOT OFFICIALLY DEAD! THAT LEAVES ROOM FOR YOU TO RETURN IN THE SPEED FORCE LIKE MANY OF US HAVE BEEN SPECULATING SINCE INVASION FOR YEARS.

I MEAN I GET WHERE THEY WERE GOING AND I ACTUALLY ENJOYED HOW THE SHOW HANDLED THESE TWO. FELT VERY GENUINE AND REAL. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, GLAD IT DIDN’T PULL THROUGH CAUSE IT WOULD’VE BEEN WEIRD AND I’M HAPPY THE SHOW ACKNOWLEDGED IT. ARTEMIS IS STILL IN LOVE WITH WALLY BUT SHE’S ACCEPTED THAT HE MIGHT NOT BE COMING BACK. THAT’S ALRIGHT, WE ALL KNOW HE’S GONNA COME BACK IN S4. YOU’RE GONNA GET YOUR HAPPY EVER AFTER WITH WALLY ARTEMIS. JUST YOU WAIT.

THEY GAVE ME SO MUCH GREAT BLUE BEETLE CONTENT THAT I WAS STARVING IN OUTSIDERS. YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. I MISSED MY PRECIOUS BUG SON THE FIRST DURING THAT TRYING HIATUS, OKAY.

 SPEAKING OF SONS, EDUARDO DORADO JR…YOU WERE SURPRISINGLY GREAT THIS SEASON. WAS NOT EXPECTING EL DORADO TO BE SUCH A POIGNANT CHARACTER BUT HE WAS. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HIM THRIVE MORE IN S4.

 AND SPEAKING OF ED…HMMM…I DUNNO. AS MUCH AS I LOVED THE FINAL MOMENT WHERE WENDY TOOK OFF HER INHIBITOR COLLAR AND SHE AND ED SHARED A NICE BIG OLE SMILE THAT WAS SOO ADORABLE….I DUNNO.

I TOTALLY SHIP ED AND WENDY BUT…I’M ALSO STARTING TO LIKE THE IDEA OF BARTUARDO TO MAKE UP FOR BLUEPULSE BEING DEAD NOW. SO…I’M CONFLICTED. MAYBE ED CAN BE REVEALED AS BI. IT COULD HAPPEN NOW. YOUNG JUSTICE IS WOKE ENOUGH FOR THAT NOW, RIGHT?

DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON HOW WOKE THIS SHOW GOT THIS SEASON. NOT GONNA TOUCH IT. JUST GONNA MENTION IT AND SAY THAT IT WAS THERE---IT WASN’T AS OBNOXIOUS AS MOST WOKENESS IN MEDIA TODAY. BUT IT WAS THERE. I SAW IT.

 ANYWAYS NEXT---STATIC SHOCK; OH MY WORD, STATIC WAS…SURPRISINGLY UNDERUSED THIS SEASON. NOT GONNA LIE. HE HAD SOME GOOD MOMENTS BUT…I DUNNO, I FELT LIKE THEY DIDN’T DO MUCH WITH STATIC THIS SEASON AT ALL. NOT AS MUCH AS WHAT THEY DID WITH ED.

I MEAN I LIKED THAT THEY CHOSE TO PUSH ED OVER STATIC SINCE HE’S A CHARACTER FOLKS BARELY KNOW ABOUT WHICH…MAKES THE SCENARIO WITH HIM GETTING MORE SCREEN TIME TO SHINE THAN STATIC MORE IRONIC. BEFORE YJ, STATIC HAD HIS OWN SERIES AND WAS MORE KNOWN THAN EL DORADO. IN YJ, ED IS GIVEN MORE MOMENTS TO SHINE. I’M HOPING THAT S4 GIVES ME THAT SUPERPOWERED RUNAWAYS REUNION I’M CRAVING NOW.

LET ED, VIRGIL, JAIME AND BART GO ON A SOLO MISSION AND BRING BACK TEAM HEADBANDS TO JOIN THEM. BRING BACK ASAMI AND TYE. MAYBE ARSENAL TOO. I NEED THIS EPISODE.

 And on a final note…WHAT WAS THAT REFERENCE AT THE END? THEY TEASED SOMETHING BEFORE THE CREDITS BUT BECAUSE I’M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS CHARACTER OR SYMBOL, I WAS LEFT CONFUSED BUT…EXCITED?

 And that’s all I gotta say. Overall, I liked Outsiders. Invasion is still my favourite season of YJ though. If I had to rank the seasons from personal favourite to least favourite, it would be--- Invasion, Original First Season and Outsiders would be last.

Again, not saying Outsiders wasn’t good. As a matter of fact, it was great and proves that Netflix and DC can provide a great continuation to this franchise. I just hope that the traffic for Outsiders was good enough to warrant it being in for a S4. I really hope so. I hope fans don’t have to wait another several years for YJ again.

 Fingers crossed. But yeah, those are my thoughts on Outsiders.

Young Justice: “Down The Rabbit Hole” and “Schooled”

Warning, Spoilers Ahead…

 The seventh issue of Young Justice “Rabbit Holes” takes place in Gotham City on July 31st.

“My name is Artemis. And this is my life. My life. Waiting. Waiting for something to happen. For something to change. My life is a bus stop.”

Artemis is waiting at a bus stop.  Artemis’s mother, the original Huntress, has been released from prison.  The wheelchair bound woman exits the bus: “Artemis? Is that you?’

“Your father?”

“I reminded him it was today but…”

“I understand.”

I feel we should pause for an info drop on the mainstream DC universe Crock family.

In the main DC universe, Artemis Crock is the daughter of the Huntress and Sportsmaster.

Sportsmaster’s name is Lawrence Crock.  He was a Golden Age character and fought the original Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Wildcat (Ted Grant) and he was a member of the Injustice Society.

I don’t remember if the circumstances of Lawrence’s death are revealed but afterwards the Council, a mysterious criminal organization, took his remains and cloned his body numerous times to use as their enforcers.  The Council did the same thing to Paul Kirk, the second Manhunter.  I wonder if Gregg Weisman was inspired by the Council storyline – specifically its use of cloning heroes/villains – and applied it to the Light storyline? He clearly has an extensive knowledge of the DC universe. Paul Kirk’s battle with the Council was fairly well-known by Bronze Age DC fans so I could see Weisman being aware of the event.  Superboy and Guardian are the exceptions as their creation (or cloning in the Guardian’s case) was straight out of Cadmus/Return of the Superman storyline. But Roy and the attempted cloning of the YJ heroes – yeah, that’s straight out of the Council storyline.

Small spoilers for Sportsmaster-related moments in “The Golden Age” in the next two paragrapghs.

Lawrence has a small part in “The Golden Age” an elseworlds that is mandatory reading for anyone who loves the Golden Age heroes of the DC universe.  Lawrence is on a robbing spree – he is attempting to earn enough money to be able to see his daughter again.  The girl’s name isn’t mentioned but this storyline was written several years after Artemis’s creation so it could be her.

Sadly, Lawrence will never see his daughter again as he sacrifices his life to save a little girl from being murdered by the main bad guy. I’m intentionally not mentioning said villain’s name because it’s the main bombshell of the series.  If you haven’t read it – 1) read it and 2) Don’t go looking for spoilers before you do.

Paula Brooks was the original Huntress of the DC Universe. She was a frequent foe of Wildcat and the Justice Society.  Paula’s romance with Sportsmaster might have been one of the earliest villain-villain romances in comics.  

Paula had a notable one on one fight with Helena Wayne: Golden Age-Huntress vs Silver/Bronze Age-Huntress!

Post-Crisis, Roy Thomas retconned Paula’s past and had her be the heroic Tigress, a member of the Young All-Stars, before she later turned to a life of crime. Paula idolized Paul Kirk and had him sponsor her admittance into the All-Star Squadron. Paula’s reasons for turning “evil” were never explained – possibly she fell in love with Sportsmaster and fell from grace as a result? It was long rumored/theorized that Paula had a fling with Wildcat (Ted Grant) and a child resulted from that union. A child that he remained unaware of.  Wildcat’s long-lost children rumor was later brought into the JSA series – unfortunately, Paula wasn’t the mother of either boy.

Artemis grew up in her parent’s footsteps.  She used her real name, “Artemis” as her criminal alias. She joined “Injustice Unlimited”, a group consisting of the children of the Injustice Society, and battled Infinity Inc.

Artemis began a relationship with the latest Icicle.  Side-note: Geoff Johns made Icicle a very sympathetic character who came very close to turning into a “hero”.

Artemis would later marry Icicle and give birth to their son.

In another “like mother, like daughter” moment, Artemis would later change her alias to “Tigress” due to another character with the same name becoming more popular than the original.  The writers changed Paula from the Huntress to the Tigress due to the creation of Helena Wayne/Bertinelli.  Artemis would become Tigress due to the debut of Artemis in the Wonder Woman series.

Artemis and her mother are changed to half-Asian and Asian in the Young Justice universe due to an addition to the family that is not cannon in the main DC universe.  But we’ll talk about Cheshire later.

Back to the issue…

We establish the length of Paula’s prison sentence when she states dinner is better “than I’ve had in the last six years.”

Artemis is around 15/16 years old in the first season. Paula’s imprisonment occurred when Artemis was 9/10 years old. We know Cheshire split soon after Paula’s imprisonment and Sportsmaster is running around as an operative for the Light…10 years old is a very young age to essentially raise yourself.

We see Artemis’s bedroom that she clearly shared with Cheshire.  It’s pretty bare bones but there are two posters on the wall – an Alice In Wonderland one and another that has a dragon/martial artist combo.

“This is my life. Preparing for a battle that never comes. What I wouldn’t give for a rabbit hole to tumble into.”

Artemis’ ruminations are interrupted by Sportsmaster’s return.  Lawrence calls out “Daddy’s home” and then realizes Paula is in the house.

“Oh, yeah…Paula. Forgot you were coming home.”

“Overjoyed to see you too, lover.”

Yep, the bloom is definitely off this romance.

“I meant to visit.”

“Even a postcard would have been nice.  Artemis wrote once a week.”

“She did? You’re kiddin’.”

“Stop rolling your eye. It’s all that got me through.”

“Look, the way the game played out.  It could have been either of us.”

“But it wasn’t.  I took the falls.  Both falls.  I did the time.  But I’m back now.  And Artemis is my priority.”

The conversation establishes Paula’s injury and paralysis occurred in their final heist.  I wish we had more details – did it happen while battling a hero or the cops?  Was the injury caused by a fall, a bullet?

Paula kept quiet about Sportsmaster’s involvement – was it due to love for her husband or the desperate desire for the girls to have one free parent while she was imprisoned?

Paula continues “I lost one daughter while I was gone.  I won’t lose the other.  I need to set some ground rules, Lawrence.”

“Six years you’re away and now you’re taking over? While you were gone, I raised her, trained her, toughened her up!”

Did Paula participate in the girls training before she was imprisoned?  Probably not Artemis but possibly Cheshire?  Maybe not with the goal of training future criminals but in general self-defense?  Paula didn’t fall off the criminal bandwagon until her paralysis and imprisonment – did she want the girls to follow in her footsteps before that?

“I’m giving up the life. You have to give it up too.”

“Or else what?”

“Or else you’re out of here.”

“Then I guess I’m out but, Baby, you’re kiddin’ yourself if you think you can save Artemis from the life. She’s one of us.”

Lawrence is both right and wrong in that statement. Also, way to fight for your marriage and family, Lawrence!

I said the Crocks’ apartment is pretty bare bones.  Lawrence is clearly not putting money into their home.  Is Sportsmaster hiding it away to avoid suspicion?  The Light would have to pay Sportsmaster some serious money for his time. I’m assuming Lawrence is hiding the majority of the money is an anonymous bank account.  Pretty sure if he spent big money on his home and possessions any local cops, federal agents, and heroes would make inquiries on how he obtained it.

Speaking of local heroes…it’s pretty ballsy of Lawrence to have the family located in Gotham City. Batman’s pretty snoopy, “World’s Greatest Detective” etc.  Batman isn’t like most heroes – he can and will track down all of their known hideouts and locations.  Lawrence has to have a supreme confidence in himself to live in Gotham City. Particularly as he is one of the main operatives for the Light.

Batman has to be aware of the Crocks – he is one of the main sponsors for Artemis’s admission into Young Justice and the Gotham Academy.  Yet Bruce doesn’t appear to have any knowledge of Sportsmaster’s connection to the Light.

Artemis, having overheard her parents’ conversation, decides “This is my life.  I’m not waiting anymore.”

Artemis throws on her costume and heads out into the night to fight crime. She spends the nights of July 31st to August 2nd stopping a variety of crimes.

The fifth episode of Young Justice, “Schooled”, opens in Metropolis on August 3rd.  A bridge suffers a physical defect causing multiple crashes and cars heading over the side.

Bruce, watching from a nearby building, presumably in Metropolis and not Gotham City, hits a switch to reveal the Batman suit.  

The location of Metropolis varies from continuity to continuity or the media.  Sometimes it’s in Delaware, sometimes it’s across the bay from Gotham City, other times it’s near Smallville – which is located in Kansas.

To sum up:

Gotham City – New Jersey

Young Justice HQ – Happy Harbor, Rhode Island

Metropolis – Wherever the writers want it to be.

I don’t like the “bay” approach as it puts Metropolis too close to New York City in the DC universe. One of my main enjoyments of the DC universe is the heroes are spread out across the United States as opposed to the 95% are located in New York City, 4% percent in Los Angeles, and 1% elsewhere route of Marvel Comics.

The near Kansas approach is ridiculous as I can recall that took place around ocean docks.  Kansas – and the Midwest in general – has a notable lack of oceans.

Delaware is the best location for Metropolis.  It has ocean access and enough geographical distance between other heroes’ bases of operations.  Look, Batman may tell other heroes to “stay out of his city” but there is no way he wouldn’t be interfering in Superman’s business if they were essentially neighbors. Yes, it’s hypocritical, and no, Batman doesn’t care.

Back to Metropolis where Bruce is witnessing the impending destruction from a Wayne Enterprises building – let’s assume he’s in town on business.

Bruce is about to change when he sees Superman head for the bridge.  Superman is better equipped to handle the bridge repair.  Clark braces the bridge and begins welding repairs with his heat vision.

Superboy leaps onto the bridge and hauls listing cars back onto the bridge.  Bruce witnesses the situation from the Wayne Enterprises building.  He decides to sit the crisis out as the Supers have it handled.

Superboy is not happy with Superman interfering with his rescue of the bus.

“I had that.”

“I didn’t want to take the chance.  As it is, your landing could have destabilized the entire bridge.”

“It didn’t.”  

“But it could have. We don’t yet know the limits of your powers.”

“Well, maybe you could, you know, help me figure that out.”

“Batman’s got that covered.”

“Yeah.  I know, but…”

Beep-beep.

“Superman.  Wait, Arrow.  Slow down. What’s attacking?  No, I’m definitely available.  Coordinates? Acknowledged.  On my way.  Sorry, Super…boy.  Duty calls.”

Beep-beep.

“Already got the alert, Bruce.”

“I know, Clark, but we need to talk.”

The scene is both heartbreaking and frustrating.  Conner is so desperate for a connection with Clark.  Metropolis is not Conner’s home base.  So why was he in Metropolis? Was he visiting the Guardian and company at Cadmus? Or was he strolling the streets hoping to chance upon Superman?  

Dick would be the only member of Young Justice to be aware of Superman’s secret identity but I doubt he would tell Conner. Cadmus is completely unaware of Superman’s real name so hoping for a chance encounter would be Conner’s only option for contact.

Conner is quickly switching from heartbreak to anger as indicated by his expressions.  Conner’s anger is justified – he hasn’t done anything wrong and surely didn’t ask to be created/made into a weapon.  Conner’s situation is similar to an adopted child attempting to make contact with their birth parents.

Clark…it’s time to put on your big boy pants and deal with Conner.  I cut you some slack in the immediate aftermath – it was a shocking revelation and violation of genentic material but a man who can halt alien invasions, handle erupting volcanos, and go one-on-one with Darkseid can deal with a confused child.

I’m curious on how the scene would have continued without Green Arrow’s interruption.  Clark was hedging (“Batman’s got that covered) but he didn’t immediately flee out of terror like he did in the second episode.

Finally, Bat-dad is watching and he is not happy.  You’re in trouble, Superman.  Bruce knows all about children conceived without your consent – his experience involved a drugged sexual violation – and he accepted Damian.  So, no, Bruce isn’t going to accept any excuses.

I’m going to break this post into two parts as I’ve typed up six pages and we still have over 20 minutes of the episode to go along with a few pages of the issue.

Thank you, it was the essay. I got it done in like 7 hours and i bullshitted my way through it. Keep in mind i also bsed my way through the two other essays i had to do for that course. Sadly, the only thing that sucked was my earth science grade but I managed to get a B in both non west lit and korean elementary 2 :)))) maybe when I don’t feel like absolute shit I’ll get my grades up (i swear, I’m a lot better than this).

Maybe someday I’ll post a picture, but I’m really bad at sewing but if I can find my old sketches i’ll post them on here. I made pants that was based off jaebeom’s shirt in I am me and the opening of the jacket i did was loosely based off Jaebeom’s shirt. In fact, got7 kinda motivated me to try to become smth in the fashion industry but then shit happened and i got burned out way too quickly lmfao. Guess I’m not made for that kind of work.

My favorite era of Youngjae,,,hm. That’s hard b/c Bluejae is wonderful but BLONDEJAE…..that’s Delicious.  I really liked Departure Youngjae because he was in pink..but so is lullaby youngjae… :(((( big sad hours. In terms of being cute, I love Departure YJ. In terms of secci, I love Spinning Top and YCMN Youngjae jkfhdfjkds. Now if we were to get Youngjae with red lenses that would be GREAT thank you very much.

EDIT: im a dumbass and forgot to tell you what concerts ive been to. I saw Got7 last year in Jakarta (with my uncle and two cousins) and I saw Day6 this year in Chicago (with my dad).

TT: Judas Contract Review

Beware spoilers along with rage and some positivity.

Okay I'm going to get this huge big thing out of the way and then go on with the mostly pleasantly surprised positive reviews towards just about everything else.

The Jericho-like character's sole purpose in this film is to demonstrate how Brother Blood's power su king/granting machine works. Does it on himself he comes out seemingly invulnerable and strong (doesn't feel getting hit by pipe and bends said pipe). Then once his services are done Mother Mayhem shoots him in the head...yeah I don't care if this wasn't a character I wasn't super invested in this is Grade A example of doing really disrespectful cameos of characters up there with BvS's handling of Jimmy Olsen. You got a hero, a disabled recently revealed to be bisexual in current comics hero, who was introduced in the original story to help save the day and his cameo in the story's film adaption is to aid the main villain and seemingly be killed off. A big hardy fuck you movie. BUT WAIT APPARENTLY I WAS TOO HASTY AS THE END CREDITS REVEALS JERICHO-LIKE CHARATCER IS ALIVE AND IS JERICHO AND THE MACHINE GRANTED HIM GLOWY GREEN EYES. So judging by the use of end credits indicating the next movie, Jericho is playing a role in the next TT movie. Or this is like Lex Luther recruiting Ocean Master at the end of ToA which we are still waiting for the pay off. Which is odd as I know I read somewhere that the hypothetical third TT movie will be focused on Kory and Blackfire. Or scarily we might get Titans Hunt but that story itself was a weaker retread of Judas Contract so maybe something remotely original.

So yeah, in a Judas Contract movie Titans who had  less or diddly squat to do with the original story are handled more respectfully than Jericho. Goddammit, KEVIN SMITH'S CAMEO IS TREATED BETTER THAN JERICHO'S. ALSO HI YJ VOICE CAMEOS.

AND IT'S A DAMN SHAME THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THE MOVIE (Except most of Slade's character but later) IS HANDLED REALLY WELL. It balances the various plot threads nicely between Kory and DIck's relationship on and off the team, Jaime's struggle with the scarab and of course Tara's character arc which is I am  very happy with how they handled it. Ultimately, it's tragic and messy yes but in a more satisfying way I guess? They approach her as a multifaced character taking a lot from the original Terra but here she's an abrasive loner with a traumatic backstory that she flashes back when those memories are triggered. She's revealed happily working with Slade but being around people who are genuinely nice and care about her confuses her and if you weren't aware of versions of her story before it would keep you doubting. SHe's loyal to Slade for saving her life and thinks of him the only person she trusts and when he breaks it....she tries to break him. Not exactly another side change but her fighting because she's pissed off and she basically lost any trust and companionship she had especially from the one she thought she did love. And as a final act of fucking with the feels Tara saves Gar as rocks fall on her. I know many are going go argue about how evil Terra should be and how true this is to the original JC but this version succeeded in pulling of the "sucker punch" really damn well. Obviously, Slade/Terra is there but made clear they didn't "do it." I figured they'd want that uncomfortable aspect still in this version but didn't want to make their fanboy Assassin wet dream look that awful. He does tell Tara after they take care of the Titans they will be together but that can easily handwaived as him lying to use her. Ultimately, this version of Slade/Terra feel like a skeevy, manipulative version of Leon/Mathilda from the film "Leon the Professional" (high recommend plus proof that Gary Oldman could've been a good Joker as well as a good Commissioner Gordon). Gar and Tara's relationship is also handled well, sticking close to the original comic's version of it being rather one-sided and Gar being annoying but his behavior is called out by others and when he actually stops being a flirty jerk he's great and Tara honestly opens to him. There's even a nice reference to the TT cartoon BBT with the two sitting on the beach outside the tower complete with rock skipping.

Also about shipping,  HALLELUJAH NO TRACE OF BBR ANYWHERE IN THIS MOVIE. Unless you count them standing next to one another, exchanging dialogue about how clueless Gar is, and basic human compassion as BBR hints than yes. Also Traci 13! Or at least a girl named Traci with 13 on her shirts.

In other terms of adapting, there were plenty of lines and scenarios lifted from the book from how the Titans were taking down (Gar's is still hilarious, Jaime basically got Vic's, and sadly we were cheated out of a Terra vs Raven fight with just seeing Tara standing over Raven) to even Slade hitting on Starfire almost word for word. Of course with out Joey or Addie Dick is the one to single handedly infiltrate the HIVE/Blood Cult to rescue them because he's Dick Grayson :/ It's impressive but also makes the big deviations with the Wilsons more annoying.

Next to Joey, the other character to get cheated here is Slade sans not committing statutory rape in this version. Of course we're stuck with the Slade who's main reason for capturing the Titans was avenging his son. Here it's for money and the only family is the LoA that Damian "stole" from him. Really there isn't even any hints about other family here even with Joey in the damn film....if Joey is utilized again here how will they explain that? It didn't even seem that hard to adapt some kind of Wilson family drama into this movie with the time they're given. They missed out on what could've been a poignant scene if instead of money Slade gave HIVE Terra to take Nightwing's place in the power sucking machine it was him choosing his son and being a semi-decent father. But nope this Slade is a petty, boring sleazy bastard just caring about power AND money. Because we needed Damian to have something cool to do and take out Slade's eye and make him a generic assassin more tied to the Bat family because yes the Bat Family needs more interesting villains. Yes I'm still pissed at that and safe to say this is another reason I'm ranking Damian low on "Favorite Robins" lists.

However, we still get "A new Titan takes Terra's place on team and hints at hopeful future" with.....Donna Troy! As one of the Titans cursed to be deaged to Damian's age group because we're ignoring Cassie who comics are doing that anyway. Here it seems no one in Tim's generation existed anyway. Really I'm happy Donna gets to be animated with the Titans but given she probably never was part of the Fab Five and instead Damian's "generation" now and how this is another reason they could've given Joey a more faithful role...the excitement was kind of nulled.

Other than all that, the animation at the end seemed....odd. Like trying to over-emote and drive home how intense the scenes were especially with Terra and Brother Blood.

 Overall, as a Terra fan I am actually satisfied yet still sad but as a Jericho fan I am frustrated and worried for the future. Even when I'm starting to warm up to this version of Titans despite trying to recreate the 03 cartoon around Damian there's always a bit in these movies that's going to massively disappoint me and ruin almost everything else about the movies. Last time was how they handled Raven and Arella's relationship in one of the worst ways possible here it's spitting on Joey's contributions and maybe bringing him back as a villain...god please let that not be the case.
