I can’t sleep. I’m terrified for my family. I understand why Israel has decided to attack Iran (Iran is notorious for wanting every Jew dead — my family was expelled from Iran by virtue of being Jewish only a few decades ago), and them having nuclear weapons is obviously very dangerous, but I don’t know that it’s a good idea to outright attack them. Obviously I am not a trained tactician but surely more negotiation attempts could have been made? But then again there is often no reasoning with these people. They want Jews dead, end of story.

I wish nuclear weapons had never been invented. I hate that my own home state was so heavily involved in their production. I am become death, destroyer of worlds.

Somehow this feels like my fault. Logically it is not. I wasn’t there when Einstein and Oppenheimer invented the atomic bomb. I’m only in New Mexico for school. Although my family lives in Israel, I do not. I have no control over who is in office there, nor his actions. And yet. I still feel at some small level responsible.

What are we doing?

We are provoking a huge danger. We are poking the sleeping bear. Even the US military is evacuating from Iran and Iraq in preparation for all out war.

Will we be responsible for World War III?

I would not put it past Donald Trump nor Netanyahu to start such a war on pride alone.

I am scared.

I would ask someone to reassure me that this will not escalate things, but I’m not convinced that there’s any reassurance to be had.
