Cap is up to 20 cm in ∅, first globular, then flat-convex, bright red, orange-red, surface is studded with numerous white or faint yellow warts. The color of the skin can be various shades of orange-red to bright red, with age lightens. Young mushrooms rarely have flakes on the cap; older mushrooms may be washed away by rain. The laminae sometimes take on a light yellow hue.

Fungus Fair 2019
(Part 2/3)
Here are some of the species of fungi that were on display in the main room. Some of these are from the living habitat and others were in baskets set up on four tables throughout the room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These fungi are classified as weird because of… shape, I guess. I just love the dramatic font.

I’ve seen lichen(?) similar in appearance to Hericium coralloides on short hikes in the Santa Cruz Mountain area. Beautiful to get some shots up close. Very inspirational.

Two different varieties of Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus). The pink ones are especially pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toxic fungi species. First is the famous Fly Amanita (Amanita muscaria), which inspires just about every pop-culture image of spotted red mushrooms you can image. Second is the infamous Death Cap (Amanita phalloides). The species has caused the majority of mushroom-related poisonings worldwide.

"Amis" (Arguably the most iconic toadstool species, the fly agaric is a large white-gilled, white-spotted, usually red mushroom, and is one of the most recognizable and widely encountered in popular culture. This includes video game design, such as the extensive use of a recognizable Amanita muscaria in the Mario franchise and its Super Mushroom power up.[6] Despite its easily distinguishable features, Amanita muscaria is a fungus with several known variations, or subspecies. These subspecies are slightly different, some having yellow or white caps, but they are all usually called fly agarics, and they are most of the time recognizable by their notable white spots. Recent DNA fungi research, however, has shown that some of these variations are not the same species at all, such as the peach-colored fly agaric (Amanita persicina) for example, but the common name 'fly agaric' clings on. Although poisonous, death due to poisoning from A. muscaria ingestion is quite rare. Parboiling twice with water draining weakens its toxicity and breaks down the mushroom's psychoactive substances; it is eaten in parts of Europe, Asia, and North America. All Amanita muscaria varieties, but in particular A. muscaria var. muscaria, are noted for their hallucinogenic properties, with the main psychoactive constituents being the neurotoxins ibotenic acid and muscimol. A local variety of the mushroom was used as an intoxicant and entheogen by the indigenous peoples of Siberia and by the Sámi, and has a religious significance in these cultures. There has been much speculation on possible traditional use of this mushroom as an intoxicant in other places such as the Middle East, Eurasia, North America, and Scandinavia.) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_muscaria https://www.instagram.com/p/CekS3MIp6Hy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Magic Mushroom
Tumblr media
This mushroom is called the Flying Agaric Mushroom (a.k.a Amanita muscaria). Here is some more taxonomic information:
Kingdom:Fungi Division:Basidiomycota Class:Agaricomycetes Order:Agaricales Family:Amanitaceae Genus:Amanita Species:A. muscaria These mushrooms tend to grow near evergreen trees and it is also known that they grow in Queen Elizabeth’s garden! The mushrooms are toxic to humans and when they are consumed they are psychoactive (which means it affects the mind). Back in the day, (although these mushrooms were considered toxic) these mushrooms were used for religious practices because these mushrooms have hallucinogenic properties which were mainly used in Siberia. What makes these mushrooms so interesting is that they contain a compound called muscimol which mimics the affects the production of GABA which the brain signals to stops neuronal activity. This makes the person who has consumed these mushrooms to feel relaxed. This mushroom reproduces by sexual spores. These mushrooms are usually found under evergreen trees and birch trees. They are usually found in subarctic regions in the Northern Hemisphere.
Fun Fact: These mushrooms are seen in Smurf villages and in Alice and Wonderland.

Amanita Pantherina Classic 50g 50€ •Dry mushroom caps Amanita Pantherina. •Time of harvest: autumn 2022. •Region of origin: Germany, Lower Saxony, Harz •Drying temperature: 35-40 °C Fly agaric (Amanita pantherina) is a fungus a mycorrhizal lamella of the Amanita family. The conditionally toxic mycelium is useful to humans with proper handling and consumption of microdoses. In medicine, red dried toadstools are classified as psychoactive drugs that stimulate brain function and physical activity. The active ingredient in Amanita muscaria is muscimol, a selective agonist of the GABAA receptor. The mushroom contains hyoscyamine, scopolamine, muscimol and ibotenic acid. The benefit of red dried fly agaric is due to the content of mediators serotonin, which stimulate nerve cells. The fungus is used in pharmacology to make anti-cancer drugs. The substance muscafurin inhibits the growth of cancer cells and increases the body's resistance to the disease. amanitamarket.com #fliegenpilze #amanita_muscaria #fly_agaric #amanita_pantherina #getrockneter_fliegenpilz #fliegenpilze_bestellen #fliegenpilz_preis (at Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqG9ktEITll/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
