Can Team Tuck and Team Buddie please agree that both can exist and serve as positive spaces for queer male representation?
I've been thinking. Let me run something by you.
Oliver says he has always felt Buck was a bi-coded character? Right?
Does that mean when TK thought Buck was hitting on him, he was?
If Buck was always bi, but just didn't know it, are we supposed to believe he never flirted with Eddie just because his first kiss was with Tommy?
Was Tommy his bi awakening or was Tommy the embodiment of the attractive traits he has seen in a man he's been falling for over five seasons?
You can like or even love multiple people. Even at the same time! 😮
Believing that Buddie is or should be the endgame does not negate or disrespect Buck's arc with Tommy in any way. I question if Tommy was just a convenient character. He's a safe guy to explore Buck's evolution with. He has a history with members of the 118, but he is not integral to the cast. If it doesn't work out, he is easily explained away. Remember Natalia?
I think it is possible to have a Buck and Tommy centered arc, focused on Buck becoming comfortable with his sexuality and exploring it in a healthy, positive way and still have Buck and Eddie eventually realize they have been each other's person for years. Having both doesn't make the other any less important. How many people have dated others when their eventual life partner was right there? They had no idea they saw that person in that way.
Now that we know Buck is bi, it could lead to different interpretations of scenes:
Buck is looking at Eddie. Tommy is not there and we don't know for sure who Eddie was speaking to.
Tumblr media
2. Look at that smile and his eyes at the end. Buck positively beams and bats his eyes when he realizes Eddie is going to look at him. That's how platonic friends look at each other?
Tumblr media
3. But we can take it all the way back if we have to. Look at Buck when Eddie compliments him.
Tumblr media
3b. Do you know what that reminds me of?
Tumblr media
4. If Buck has subconciously been into guys for a long time, then this scene takes on a whole new context.
Moving closer to the other man? Check.
Eye contact? Check?
Smile and shy head duck? Check.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*I'd like to state that I have no doubt Edmundo Diaz knew Buck was into him. Look at the reaction.
5. When I'm into someone, you know what I don't talk about? Someone else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Wow. Look at how Buck looks at Tommy.
Tumblr media
6b. We have never seen that before have we?
Tumblr media
Buck x Tommy and Buck x Eddie can coexist in harmony. Life stories are long and have jumpscares, plot twists, plot holes, etc.
Buck being genuinely attracted to Tommy doesn't mean that all the scenes from the past five seasons that made us all side-eye Evan Buckley didn't happen.
If we never get Buddie, let's just take the win. ABC said, "There are queer men in the world who are masculine, hot, and relatively stable. Let's show that."
Do we really need to talk about how the LGBTQ community was represented on their former network? I could stand on that soapbox and go off for days. Let's just say I know others who also felt some way about it, whether they were straight, queer, or allies.
I am just going to enjoy what is shaping up to be an amazing season. Moving to ABC breathed new life into 911 and I am excited. (Season six? Can we just not talk about it?)

minho as your boyfriend!!! (pt. 1)
(based on astrology) 🔞
✨minho x reader (f); possessive fluff, slightly suggestive at the end
✨take a look into lee know’s natal chart to see what type of boyfriend he would be! in this post, i will be talking about his sun in scorpio. this is a series!!! so follow up later if u want more <3
✨i will give a brief synopsis of what each chart placement means (for all my non-astrology friends out there <3) and how that would affect minho in a relationship :)
✨word count: ~2k
✨ author’s notes:
★★ (1) i do do brief astrological compatibility readings if anyone wants one! if you’re interested, message me your birth date, time, and location OR lmk your placements. i’m gonna limit the reading to include you x 1 skz member only! just specify who you’d like.
(2) i am wanting to get better at using neutral-gendered pronouns so more people can feel included in my posts. i’m really struggling since i use phrases like “my girl” a lot. anyone who has some good alternatives or tips, please message and lmk! i really want to be able to start cranking out more gn options!
(3) the aspects in this reading are based solely on my opinions and interpretations! nothing about a person is set in stone simply because of astrology. please don’t use anything i say as canon :)
(4) i will not be going into ascendant or house placements because lee know’s birth time has not been confirmed for AM or PM
✨warnings: some explicit language
✨ tl/dr: minho as your boyfriend will spoil the shit out of you and charm you until you can’t help but live and breathe him. he’s got to keep a grasp on you at all times- literally AND figuratively.

Sun in Scorpio: Sun signs are all about personality- the face you show the world! It is also the lens through which you usually see yourself and how friends would describe you.
• Scorpio has two planetary rulers- Mars and Pluto. Mars is the ruler of action and aggression, while Pluto is the ruler of transformation and rebirth. Scorpio is an amazing mixture of the two, as it embodies strong desires, innate control, and deep mental and supraphysical understanding.
• Scorpios encapsulate passion. They tend to have a deep understanding of others and can utilize this power to their advantage. They are able to influence others to do as they wish. Scorpios have a deep understanding of beauty and admire things that could be seen as dark, different, or strange to others.
• Scorpios have a tendency to become obsessive, controlling even, if not careful. They get fully engrossed into who other people are and want others to fully engross themselves in them as well.
• Scorpios are known for their creative and expressive nature- something that comes naturally to them. Because of this, they can really shine in areas such as art or drama, historian or detective, intuitive research or psychology, and are amazing for dabbling in the occult.
As your boyfriend:
• He is super protective over you. He’s always watching behind you as you do something to make sure you’re okay and no one is bothering you… And to be honest, I don’t think many people WOULD bother you, knowing you were the person with a psycho boyfriend (in a good way <3).
• He would bring you lunch any chance he got. If you were at work/school and he knew you hadn’t brought lunch or hadn’t had lunch that day, he’d definitely bring you something- whether he picked it up or made it himself. It also gives him an excuse to see you and check on you during the day.
• He knows when you are having a bad day. And he knows exactly how you need him to act in order to help you deal with it. When he senses something is wrong, he will pull you onto his lap in a hug and tell you to talk to him about it.
• Other people think he’s cold, but he’s definitely not with you. He loves you and nurtures you. He takes pride in knowing every part of you. He loves that there is a side of him that is specifically for you and not for the rest of the world. He’d like it if you were the same.
• He loves when the both of you have a chance to get dressed up. To look good for one another and just enjoy the other’s company.
• He loves nice dates, ones where he can make a grand gesture to make you feel loved and special.
• That’s why it was no surprise when he’d texted you earlier to dress up pretty for him and he’d be at your apartment to pick you up at 8.
• This was a monthly occurrence. Him surprising you with a nice date- and when I say nice, I mean NICE.
• Yes, you went on smaller dates a lot too, but he made it a priority to spoil you with something bigger at least once a month.
• So here you were, all dressed up in your favorite dark blue satin dress. It looked absolutely enchanting with it’s spaghetti strap and cowl neck top with a deep slit running up the side.
• You made sure to do your hair his favorite way- loose curls all brought to one side.
• You gave yourself one final look in the mirror, swiping on a glossy coat over your lip stain before heading out the door. Minho was already waiting on you downstairs.
• When he saw you like this, he always smirked.
• ‘Looking so beautiful all for me,’ he thought.
• Once you got to him, he just smiled at you, taking your hand in his.
• “Now, are you going to tell me where we’re off to?” you asked.
• “Shhh, you’ll see,” he kissed your hand, leading you out to the car.
• He always made sure to open the car door for you and make sure you were buckled before you took off.
• And of course he always had to rest one hand in his favorite spot- gripping onto one of your thighs. It was harder when you had a dress on, but he’d never let that stop him. He needed to always have a hold on you.
• Arriving at your destination, it was a quaint building you didn’t recognize. You’d never been here before, but it seemed to be a small restaurant with only a few (very nice) cars in the parking lot.
• The valet rushed to the car to speak with Minho and grab the keys.
• You smiled up at your boyfriend as he walked around to your side of the car, opening the door for you and taking your hand in his to help you stand.
• As you made your way toward the restaurant, he made sure to hold tightly to the one hand, while the other stabilized on your hip, making sure you were safe while ascending the few steps in front of you.
• “Hello, can I get your name please?” the host of the restaurant asked as you stepped inside. It was a beautiful restaurant- dark and sensual. There was very minimal lighting, but what they did have gave a beautiful warm glow. The sleek bar to the right shined bright from the sparkly crystal bottles aligning each of the shelves- luxury liquor only.
• “Lee,” he said, matter of factly, only taking a brief moment to look at the host. Tonight, his eyes were only on you.
• The host presented a big smile before stepping to the side and motioning for you to follow him. “Great, Mr. Lee. Right this way.”
• Minho let you walk just slightly in front of him, always watching your back to make sure he had a full view of you. One hand continued to rest on your hip. It was like it was glued there. He never wanted to lose contact with you.
• The host led you down one of the dimly-lit aisles and to the back of the building. Off to itself, he rounded a corner to lead to a beautiful, private, screened-in room in the back. It sat adjacent to a huge lake, which could be seen through the mesh netting of the “walls” that enclosed you. With the moon shining bright over the water and the stars on full display, it was a captivating view.
• Minho pulled your seat out for you to sit before pushing you in towards the table. You allowed yourself this moment to look around the beautiful secluded room. It was still dark like the interior of the building, with the nice, warm lighting. But there was an even more bewitching feeling to it through the beautiful scenery and soft music that was emanating from afar. It was absolutely breathtaking.
• If there was anything Minho knew how to do, it was how to wine and dine you. He made sure to start the evening with ordering a full bottle of your favorite reserve red wine. He loved the way you looked and smiled at him after a glass or two- how lovey dovey you got for him and how you began to try and charm him, getting all giggly, before the night was over with.
• He encouraged you to get whatever you wanted off the menu- even if it was the most expensive thing by far, he wanted you to have it. He was never going to let you pay anyways.
• Once you decided what you wanted, he always wanted you to tell him so that he could order for you. It wasn’t that he thought you were incapable of ordering for yourself, but he wanted you to know that you would always be taken care of when he was there. He didn’t want you to have to take your attention off of him for one second.
• Your heart always swelled as you watched him order- for some odd reason. And he never ordered just what the two of you wanted. No way. He made sure to always order at least 3 or so dishes so that you could share with each other and sample everything. He would make sure to have something on the table that his baby loved.
• Even if you were absolutely stuffed, if he noticed there was still wine in your glass, he would always order a dessert for the two of you to share. And although he wouldn’t admit it, this was also a way to extend his time out with you.
• He’d make sure to do all the gross romantic stuff with you, like feeding you a bite of the crème brulèe straight from his spoon. He definitely didn’t want to overdo it though and would NOT do it unless you two were in private.
• At the end of the evening, after your head felt light and bubbly from the wine and your stomach was full, he made sure to tip the waiter very generously. You loved that about him. That’s why the restaurant owners and workers always loved to see the two of you back.
• Taking the last sip of your whine, you leaned in with a smile, half-whispering “thank you for dinner, jagi.”
• “Thank you for being here with me, love,” he said back. Slowly, he stood from his chair, so naturally you waited in yours as he always requested, so that he could again pull your chair out before you stood.
• He made his way over as usual, standing behind you, but this time he didn’t put his hands on the chair.
• Instead, he placed one hand on the nape of your neck, bending down to plant a soft kiss to your shoulder and then to the side of you neck.
• You let out a giggle as you started to blush. “Stop itttt, you know we can’t do that here.”
• “I know, but I had to at least get a little bit out,” he smiled smugly.
• Suddenly, you saw his hands both in front of you and a cold sensation on your chest. You looked down to see a beautiful silver pendant resting just between your collar bones.
• “What’s this?” you asked, as you felt his hands secure the latch at the back of your neck.
• He walked to your side so that he could see your face and bent down, resting one knee on the ground.
• “Why don’t you look at it and tell me?”
• You picked the small-ish pendant up to examine it. On the front, in dainty cursive font read “LMH”. Lee Min Ho.
• The back had a single, small diamond implanted in it. Around it’s edges, it had a Latin phrase inscription. You read it aloud. “Aut viam inveniam aut faciam?” You tried to make the words out, looking to your boyfriend for confirmation.
• “That’s right jagi. ‘I will either find a way or make one’. For you.” He smiled up at you, as your looked at him with eyes of endearment. The love you had for this man was unbearable. You could hardly stand the emotions that he made you feel.
• He gently reached out for your hand, planting a gentle kiss to it, before standing up and motioning for you to do the same.
• Once you were upright on your feet, he leaned in next to your ear. “It looks beautiful on you, by the way,” he whispered seductively.
• You smirked, the boldness of the wine starting to manifest out of you. “I’ll keep it on for you later. Everything else is coming off,” you winked.
• His eyes grew large for a split second before turning himself so that he body was right up against yours. He swiftly let his hands wonder to your waist, then hips, then grab lightly at your ass.
• “That sounds perfect,” he planted a small, sweet kiss to your lips. “But that necklace is never coming off of you. Promise me. Promise me you’ll wear it at all times, and I’ll always be with you.” He looked at you, his face full of sincerity and genuine lust.
• “Anything for you,” you gave in to him before leaning in for another slow kiss.
• You knew that’s exactly what he wanted. For you to give yourself fully to him. You’d play around with him later, but for now, you would give yourself up. He knew you were his.
———————————————————————————————————
✨ author’s note: lowkey thinking this man put a tracker in the necklace lol. he just wants to know you’re safe and also wants to be able to know where you are at all times. but it’s up to you what you want to think 🤷‍♀️

Schwein interview - Sakurai Atushi and Raymond Watts [ROCKIN'ON (June 2001)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Schwein, the Japan-German-UK trilateral industrial music collaboration - what's the story here?
Interview: Shunsuke Kosugi, Interpreter: Yoko Utsumi
Schwein is a group formed by industrial heavyweight PIG's Raymond Watts, Raymond's former colleague Sascha Konietzko of MDFMK, and Sakurai Atsushi and Imai Hisashi of BUCK-TICK. The members are from three different countries: Japan, Germany, and the UK, but the three groups that have come together are known for their activities that transcend national differences. BUCK-TICK's extremely Japanese song world is carried by an unusually cool Western sound, PIG incorporates samba rhythms into industrial music, and MDFMK showed a stage performance at Fuji that was like a motor with an unusually high revving speed. Their debut album, "Schweinstein," is an unusually high-tension work in which the elements of the three collide behind Sakurai's song world. In any case, this strangely distorted and captivating industrial world is one of a kind. It is a strange work that could only be possible with the combination of these three artists. Above all, Sakurai's ability to draw both PIG and MDFMK into his world is amazing. Schwein, which differs neither from BUCK-TICK, which is active against the backdrop of the so-called Japanese music situation, nor from a Western music band, is worth a listen. We spoke to Raymond Watts and Sakurai Atsushi.
First of all, please tell us how you came to form Schwein. Raymond Watts (R): 「A year and a half ago, I did a Japan tour with BUCK-TICK in PIG. During the tour, I started talking to the guys about various things, and before we knew it, we went into the studio together and decided to do something. I also asked Sascha from KMFDM and he said, "Let's do it", and before I knew it, this project was born. Imai, the guitarist of BUCK-TICK, and I had been in a band called Schaft before, and whenever I went to Japan we would go out for sushi together and hang out.」
What do you like about each other? R: 「The BUCK-TICK song I remixed before was an interesting song and the work itself was a lot of fun. It was also interesting to see how confused everyone was about this collaboration. The connection between BUCK-TICK, who is very active in the pop scene, and me, who has been working underground for a long time, is certainly a strange one. But we actually have a lot in common. We have a similar sense of humour, for example, and we have a similar approach to our work. We both need to be satisfied with the best in whatever we create.」 Sakurai Atsushi (S): 「That was my main question (laughs). He's a successful person in America also. But Raymond is someone who is always looking for new stimulation. He's always angry about something, he's always frustrated, he's always trying to destroy something. Well, he told me he wouldn't work with anyone he didn't like.」
What exactly are these frustrations? What are you trying to destroy with Schwein? R: 「I'm frustrated with Japanese music listeners. I mean, in Japan, there's a tendency to treat their own music differently from foreign music. It's a really stupid thing. Why is there such a gap between listeners who buy Western music like Limp Bizkit, Rage Against The Machine or KMFDM, and listeners who buy Japanese music like Luna Sea or BUCK-TICK? I have a hard time understanding it. When I buy music, I never pay attention to where the artist is from. It's really stupid. What is the point of describing one art form as inferior to another? It's really stupid. For example, if we said that American music is inferior to British music, we'd be sued for discriminatory remarks. I can't even say that one country's culture is inferior to another's. It's just a Japanese complex. Well, it's not like I don't know how you feel. For example, in the world of cinema, British films are always treated as secondary to Hollywood films, right? It's the same thing, isn't it? I actually prefer British films. But that's because we measure things by American standards. In other words, they're just comparing the amount of money they make.」 S: 「I don't listen to it because it's BUCK-TICK, or because it's PIG, or because it's MDFMK, but I also want more people to listen to it.」
Now I would like to ask Raymond, what do you think are the characteristics of Japanese rock that are not found in other countries? R: 「They wear a lot of heavy makeup. Don't you think so too?」
Yes, I do (laughs). What else? R: 「That's it.
(laughs) Raymond, please tell us what you think are the characteristics of Sakurai-san and Imai Hisashi-san, respectively. (?) R: 「When I play him my song ideas and backing tracks, Atsushi sees them from ten different perspectives. Atsushi is a singer in the true sense of the word. He can express himself properly through his songs. I've never worked with a singer like this before, so it's very exciting to work with Atsushi. And with Imai, I'm attracted to the fact that he doesn't treat the guitar as a guitar. All the guitarists I've played with so far play a traditional style, but with Imai, he plays gorgeous noises that you can't believe are guitar sounds. I'm constantly amazed by Imai's skills.」
Raymond doesn't understand Japanese, does he? R: 「Yeah, that sometimes messes up communication within the band. But it's an old saying, but in these situations, music naturally becomes the common language.」
With the album "Schweinstein," I think it's more of a clash of your own characteristics rather than an exploration of compromises between each of you. Was this something that you guys intended to do? R: 「No, it wasn't really my intention, but I knew that when the four of us went into the studio together, we could expect strange things to happen and that we should be able to produce some strange work. I'm really excited by this kind of heterogeneous combination, this mixture of disparate personalities. Because the result can be something so bizarre that you would never have thought possible.」 S: 「It's exciting in that I want change, Imai wants change, and of course Raymond wants change. But every day was a struggle, wasn't it? It was a good opportunity for me to clear out some of the naivety in me.」
What are your plans for Schwein's future activities? S: 「I think we all intend to do that, though. We have our individual activities, but deep down we want to stay connected.」 R: 「I want to continue working in the future. First, we'll tour Japan in June, and then we'll each go back to work with BUCK-TICK and PIG. But I hope we can work together again next year or so, if we feel up to it. But it's a decision we make for ourselves, not one determined by record sales. We were very lucky this time. That's because we had a record company that was willing to take the risk and pay for a project like this that we didn't know would be successful or not. All four of us took the risk. But what is success anyway? If we make something good, I think it's a success.」
Translator’s Note: I want to thank yoshiyuuki for helping me in clarifying certain parts that stumped me, the first being the title of the interview and then a particular question.
(?) This part of the question stumped me at first when I extracted the text, because when I put it into Deepl and Google Translate, this was the result:
“(笑) 櫻井さん、今井寿さん、それぞれについてレイモンドの思う特徴を聞かせてください。”
“(laughs) Sakurai-san, Imai Hisashi-san, please tell us what Raymond thinks are the characteristics of each of you.”
But then I saw that it was Raymond who answered that question, so I figured out what the question should actually look like and rearranged the words to form a sentence that made more sense. And then I asked Yoshi if what I've done was a better result.
Please do support me on my Ko-fi! ☕

so i'm reading certain nightwing volumes from '96 - 02 for my current reading run following NML (shout out to @havendance, cannot thank you enough 🫶🏾) and while some aspects of how he's written is very compelling and interesting to chew on, for the most part it's been pretty....boring?? like i'm gonna keep reading it so i can have as much context as possible, but it feels more like a chore 😩
anyways, i read your response on that “who’d you choose to write nightwing” poll and i’d love to get your opinion on what nightwing runs/writers to read outside of those 8 volumes. i really wanna get into dick grayson’s character and personality! also, if it’s cool with you, anyone else please feel free to add to this!
-dominomasc
Hey, dominomasc. Unknowingly you've just raised one of the fundamental incongruities of how comics work.
Comics are about layers of stories providing depth to a character and about dozens of different interpretations more than they are about a single amazing run. (Some characters have That Run! But on average, most don't). Dick Grayson, a character that has existed for 84 years, has some very fun stories from all sorts of writers. His title, Nightwing, is also an excellent example of how a lot of long running titles often don't really have a stand out section that's head and shoulders above the rest.
I promise, you are never going to run out of stories to read about Dick Grayson (Comicsvine has him at 9,593 appearances as I write this). So yes, this is going to be about two things: advice on finding stories about Dick that vibe for you; and advice on understanding Dick alongside other storylines.
Taking into account what's listed above and the fact I'm moderately obsessive, I have compiled a discussion of most of the major writers who have written Nightwing runs, or who have written major titles that Dick also prominently appears in.
I am at heart a 'Dick belongs to the Bat Office' person and my expertise in most characters starts with COIE. On that basis I'm not going to dip into pre-Crisis here.
Marv Wolfman & George Pérez: New Teen Titans (1980-1993ish). I am not going to explain all the title names here; you're going to have to go get more detail from someone who treats NTT period as their special interest. Wolfman and Pérez are the architects of Nightwing as a character, separate to Robin, that Dick grew into. Read this period if you're interested in Dick as a young adult among the other Titans going through the transition into adulthood and independence, and his relationship with Kory. Basically it's a superhero young adult soap opera. It can be quite uneven in places, particularly towards the back end, and there are approximately a thousand discussions over which storylines are good and which should be fired into the sun. I am not a subject expert for this period.
Because of the state of the Titans titles in the early 1990s, the Bat office demanded Dick Grayson back under their control. Exactly when they got him back is slightly debated, but it would be fair to say Batman #500 (October 1993) marks his transition back to being a Bat character (around the start of Knightquest); by KnightsEnd and Prodigal (July 1994-January 1995) Dick is once again firmly a member of the Batman set of characters, and has remained so to date.
Prodigal, by Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Doug Moench: (Batman #512 to Robin #13). Use a reading list here as the stories are spread across multiple titles. Prodigal is 12 issues about Dick's first time being Batman, with Tim as his Robin, and his feelings about returning home to Gotham as an adult. Robin #13 in particular is possibly the most important issue of the story, as it's the foundation of a reset in Bruce and Dick's relationship with each other and how it is going to be characterised for the next decade or so.
Chuck Dixon: (Nightwing #1-70 1996, Nightwing: Alfred's Return, and a bunch of other one shots) So Dixon is probably DC's most prolific writer of all time, and is the architect of what's been treated as 'default Nightwing'. In this run, Dixon creates Bludhaven and the situation of Dick being its protector, out of a desire to be his own man apart from Bruce. He sets up an extensive Rogue's Gallery for Dick, the most famous of which is making Blockbuster one of Dick's main enemies. He has Dick working at a cop bar and then decide to enter the Bludhaven Police Department in an attempt to investigate it from the inside due to the levels of corruption. This is also the run where Dick and Babs get together as adults. Basically, everything about 'default' Dick that you probably know comes from this run. Dixon's great for character interaction, for world building, and and particularly at making various titles tie together - because he was writing at least 1/3 of DC's entire line for a while there he's the king of crossovers, giving a lot of depth to friendships because characters just pop between titles he's writing. His actual plots however vary between middling to occasional flashes of greatness. I'd consider The Hunt for Oracle (#45-46 and BOP#20-21) and the Shrike story (#55-58) to be the standout storylines in his Nightwing run; for individual issues I'd also point to #6 and #25 for his relationship with Tim, #16 for Dick building his car, and then his crossover issues in events tend to be quality.
Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty: (Robin: Year One 2000, Batgirl: Year One 2003, Nightwing: Year One - Nightwing #101-106 1996) I am separating these three out from the rest of Dixon's work as they're quite important as retcons over Dick's backstory. Robin and Batgirl are well regarded rewrites of events; Nightwing is less so, partly because it's a solid example of the Jason personality retcon, and partly I think because a lot of people reading this were still well across the two 1980s versions of Dick's transition from Robin to Nightwing. I highly recommend Robin Year One, particularly with the Shrike storyline of Nightwing, as they are interlinked.
Devin Grayson: (Nightwing #71-100 & #107-117 1996, Nightwing/Huntress 1998, Gotham Knights #1-11 & #14-32, The Titans #1-20 1999) Oh, Devin. Devin Grayson is a Dick Grayson superfan (she uses Grayson as her surname because of Dick). She is really good at character introspection - Gotham Knights #1-11 contains some amazing character work. She's also not shy about establishing her own headcanons on characters and retconning their backstories. Devin's biggest contributions to the Dick Grayson lore are in establishing him as Romani and actually writing Bruce adopting Dick. Her run on Nightwing is best understood as a whump, break-the-cutie run, where Blockbuster sets out to destroy Dick's life, and in the process gets Dick fired, breaks up Dick and Babs, burns down Haly's Circus (for the first time), blows up his entire supporting cast, chases Dick out of Bludhaven and leads to Dick going under cover in the mob essentially to punish himself (also not the only time). Dick's also sexually assaulted in Nightwing #93 but I really beg people to read this in context of the rest of the run; this should be looked at as PART of the whole flow of whump, rather than as a separate situation. Grayson also had the title taken off her before she got to the 'comfort' part of the extended hurt/comfort storyline she was writing. It reads a lot better if you think of this in a more transformative fandom, ficcish manner of story rather than as a more standard run. If her Nightwing run is too grim for you, I highly recommend Gotham Knights and her Titans run; Devin Grayson is honestly best when she's writing a constellation of characters around Dick more than when she's writing Dick himself. She adores his friends and family. Standout issues to get a sense of Devin include: Nightwing #100, a self-reflective issue on Dick's history; Nightwing #81, where Dick's in hospital and Cass goes after Slade for him; Titans #15 1999, where the Fab 5 go on a camping trip together to get back to their roots and deal with a lot of tensions in the group; and Gotham Knights #8-11, Transference, where Dick and Tim team up to rescue Bruce, who's been brainwashed by Hugo Strange.
Jay Faerber: (The Titans #21-41 1999) Honestly Faerber's run on The Titans is not that Dick Grayson focused. It's entertaining if you want to read some solid Titans dynamics, but the standout characters you read this run for are Roy and Donna. Seriously, if you're into Roy, Cheshire and Lian drama I highly recommend Faerber's work; otherwise it's not an essential run for Dick.
Judd Winick: (Outsiders #1-25, 34-49 2003, Batman & Robin #23-25 2011) Winick tends to write an angrier and darker edged Dick Grayson, and he has a bunch of really common tropes you see pop out in his writing. These are no different, and thus include an awful lot of violence and characters having sex (so much sex). He can be quite funny as a writer, but honestly his Outsiders run does not have much of that humour. The Batman & Robin story is basically Winick finding some space to tie up his Jason Todd plot before Flashpoint obliterated it, more than an actual story about Dick. If you want a good encapsulating issue to get the vibe of Winick about Dick, take a look at Outsiders #21, which has a good chunk of Dick and Roy AND Dick and Bruce in it, though it's helpful to remember that this issue is set very shortly after War Games and so Dick is in a massive guilt spiral.
Bruce Jones: (Nightwing #118-124 1999) It's One Year Later! Bruce Jones moves Dick back to New York City (as Bludhaven went boom due to Chemo in the lead up to Infinite Crisis) and theoretically sets up Dick's status quo out to Reborn. So. The story Jones is most famous for is the first 4 issues of the run, which are generally referred to by fans as the TentaTodd story. Jason Todd turns up to run around annoying Dick by ALSO dressing up as Nightwing and committing crimes. He also turns into a tentacle monster for a bit. It is certainly a story that exists, but it actually is pretty in line with Jason and Dick's relationship up to Flashpoint: Jason turns up to be a brat who wants attention, does violent things, and Dick exhaustedly kicks the shit out of him and gets him locked up while despairingly going 'why is this my life'. Because of Jason running around killing people as Nightwing, the NYPD get mad at Nightwing and start trying to hunt him down. Jones is for the completionist.
Marv Wolfman: (Nightwing #125-137 1999) Lacking any better ideas, Wolfman gets a run on Nightwing. It's not Wolfman's finest work, to put it bluntly, and it's very obvious that Marv hasn't actually read any of Dixon or Grayson's runs. Marv does set Dick up working as a gymnastics and trapeze coach, which is always a decent job for him. If I had to pick one story from Wolfman, read Nightwing #127, where Dick gets buried alive and digs his way out of the grave.
Peter J. Tomasi: (Nightwing #140-157 1999, Batman & Robin #20-22 2011) Tomasi loves Dick Grayson, and particularly loves Dick's connection to his friends and family. Let me put it this way; in the lead up to Final Crisis and Blackest Night every title got an Origins and Omens short story on the back of an issue. Most books used it to write creepy or introspective reflections on awful stuff especially deaths that have happened to the characters. Tomasi used his to have Dick take Barbara skydiving for her birthday, and echo a bunch of themes from his first issue. I think this is one of the most mature and grown up looks at Dick prior to Flashpoint; Tomasi treats Dick as a grown adult with an adult relationship with Bruce. I love Freefall. Read Freefall to see some really interesting meta on Dick's relationship to the concept of falling and to the concept of catching falling people, a theme that's frequently present in his stories.
Grant Morrison: (Batman & Robin #1-16 2011) Astonishingly given how much of Reborn was designed by Morrison, they don't actually seem to care that much about Dick as a character more than as a prop to set Damian against. Dick's extremely focused on Damian in this title but also does not actually appear to like Damian very much. If I were going to recommend one story out of it I'd probably point to Batman & Robin #7-9, because Dick gets to be a giant hypocrite in them and tries to resurrect Bruce. It goes badly, for all involved.
Scott Snyder: (Detective Comics #871-881, Gates of Gotham, and like every Bat event during n52) The Black Mirror is probably my favourite piece of Dick!Batman storytelling set during Reborn. It's just elegant in terms of how hard Snyder pushes Dick and how his reactions are very much not those that Bruce would have. This is helpfully extremely obvious in that The Black Mirror and Gates of Gotham are actually part of a trilogy, the third act of which is Court of the Owls and due to Flashpoint Snyder had to rewrite CotO quite extensively including swapping Dick out of being Batman and having Bruce as the lead. Read The Black Mirror for Dick having a minor breakdown while solving a complex case with links to James Gordon and Babs. Read Gates of Gotham for incredible Dick & Tim & Cass & Damian fourway storytelling that shows the dynamics of every pairing out of the four.
Fabian Nicieza: (Nightwing #138-139 1999, Batman #703 & #713, parts of Battle for the Cowl, Nightwing #51-56 2016) The thing about FabNic is when he's on, he's very much on, and when he's not it can be painful. I actually almost would have skipped him on this list, but he very much deserves recognition for writing the Nightwing issues of Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul, which alongside the Robin issues portray exactly how far Dick will go for Tim; and for Batman #703, which is the only issue prior to Bruce's resurrection that actually puts Dick, Tim and Damian on page together as heroes. He also got saddled with writing the start of the Ric Grayson saga under the script of Scott Lobdell, which, well, is definitely at the 'not well regarded' end of his oeuvre. FabNic is again a writer that is really good at character interaction, and I tend to find whenever I'm reading events where there's heaps of writers involved and he's there, the issues I really enjoy are the ones he's had a hand in.
Tony S. Daniel: (Battle for the Cowl, Batman #692-699 & #704-707 & #710-712) Oh, Tony Daniel. Why. Daniel's stories are probably the most classic-Batman of the Dick!Batman stories. His stories revolve a lot around drama at Arkham Asylum, with Harvey and Gilda Dent, and with the Falcones. On balance I think you could probably actually trade Dick out for Bruce in half these stories and it wouldn't make a huge amount of difference. If I were going to suggest one to try, maybe go with #710-712? It's Harvey focused and it has Kitrina Falcone and doesn't actually depend on the whole Jeremiah Arkham thing.
Kyle Higgins: (Nightwing #1-12, 0, & 15-29 2011) For a reboot of Dick Grayson down to his fundamentals, and working within the requirements of the 5 year time line, I like Higgins' work on Nightwing. Sure, I could have done without him burning down Haly's circus, again, and all the Court of the Owls revelations, but some of that was clearly dictated to him, and they way he gave Dick time as a teenager with relationships with other characters at Haly's before his parents died worked quite well. If I were going to cite a favourite part of this run it's probably the last section, #18-29 when Dick moves to Chicago and tries the 'strike out as my own hero with my own city, screw you dad' thing for the first time in the new timeline. Higgins put in quite a bit of cast building work and it's a shame none of it ever got used again between Forever Evil and then Rebirth just ignoring everything during this period.
Tom King and Tim Seeley: (Nightwing #30 2011, Grayson #1-20) I'm going to treat these two together here as I can't actually easily subdivide the run between them. This is the longest period Dick goes undercover working as a spy because his life has just gone to shit. He is both spying on Spyral (for Bruce) but also his job within Spyral is as a spy and special agent. Think James Bond, except Dick also gets to be the focus of the objectification camera. Some people enjoy it as a change of pace, some people can't stand it because it's just a very weird story for Dick and Dick's generally personally unhappy when he's stuck undercover, and it definitely is a highlight in the 'did you know Tom King worked for an intelligence agency? Tom King is working out his feelings about working for an intelligence agency again' oeuvre. If you want to try an issue, I recommend Grayson #5 as probably the best character and storytelling piece in the entire run.
Tim Seeley: (Nightwing #1-34) Good stuff I can say about Seeley's run includes that he used Rebirth as a impetus to rebuild Dick's status quo. He did quite a lot of world building for a new version of Bludhaven, he got Dick back into Nightwing and back into a blue V costume for the first time in 7 years, he's interested in looking at the Grayson family and not so much in terms of the Court of the Owls stuff. He likes Dick and Damian's time as Batman & Robin. Seeley's also a fan of a lot of character beats in terms of Dick's characterisation that were pioneered by Devin Grayson - particularly in terms of Dick being easily attracted to women, being impetuous and hot headed at times, and in the Romani retcon. I don't necessarily see eye to eye with Seeley on all of his characterisation and story choices, but he does a lot of repair work on getting Dick back to being Nightwing, including things like repeating beats from the Dixon and Grayson runs so that Dick has that backstory again, and what that means for his character. I might suggest Nightwing #8 2016, because it revolves around Bruce and Dick and the concept of falling (I'm a sucker for a good falling metaphor) or #9, which is literally a discussion of the changes between n52 and Rebirth with both of the Clark Kents, and in which Clark points Dick to return to Bludhaven (in a sort of re-encapsulation of Clark originally giving Dick the inspiration for the name Nightwing, but this time pointing him to what people treat as his default 'home'). If you like the shape of Dick as Bludhaven's hero from fic, you probably will find Seeley's run has stuff to enjoy.
Sam Humphries: (Nightwing #35-41 2016) So Humphries' storyline is another good example of what a lot of the current run of Nightwing contains since 2016 - reinterpretations and new versions of old stories. In this case, it's an adaption of the Hanging Judge storyline to have taken place in Bludhaven in Bruce and Dick's past. I don't mind it as a story, but it's definitely there to remind you of old story beats.
I haven't yet read Benjamin Percy's run, or any of Ric Grayson yet (which is a combination of Scott Lobdell, Fabian Nicieza and Dan Jurgens), or Tom Taylor's run, so I don't want to give you too explicit opinions on these.
In general terms from experience on other titles and what other people have said: I really loved Benjamin Percy's Detective Comics #35-36 story in n52 and I suspect his Nightwing writing is a perfectly acceptable fill; nobody particularly likes the plot surrounding Ric Grayson, and the fact Scott Lobdell had a hand in plotting it seems to me to explain a bunch of the aspects of the scenario premise that upset a lot of people; Dan Jurgens is a DC workhorse who can turn his hand to anything; and Tom Taylor's run has been described as many as 'rewrite the arc of Devin Grayson's run but make it light and fluffy and free of consequences'. I honestly think if you haven't read much Nightwing yet, Taylor's run may be a good transition run to try to see if he's your vibe; I keep getting the impression he probably makes a good intro for new readers.
If you have any other writers you would like my impression of, please ask specifically; as I've said, Dick's been written by a LOT of people over the years.

Silent Hearts // [Part I]
Pairing | Cowbell x reader
Word count | 3.2k
⚠️ Warnings | Canon divergence, f!reader, Cowbell is Cowbell. TW for blood, a little bit of violence, mention of death, attempted assault (nothing happened)
Chapter Summary: You like to go to the cemetery once a week to replace the flowers. This time you were followed by some Brothers of Sin. Along the way you meet Cowbell and learn he's a little different than the rest, but then again... so are you.
A/N: Okay so this is largely based on my interpretation of Cowbell. I love the idea that his name is actually Felix (like how Special is Phil) so that will be used now and again. Visuals for the guy are based off of Endopyre's amazing art on Tumblr, literally cannot get it out of my head.
This will eventually have a few parts as I make more stories between Bell and the reader. Take this as their origin story, but theres more to come! xoxo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You really liked spending time in the cemetery. Most of the Siblings thought you were crazy, but amongst the dead is where you found your soul’s purpose.
The Abbey didn’t have a lot of residents. It had even less that devoted their life to the Ministry long enough to be laid to rest in the unholy ground it stood upon. You made a point to go out once a week and replace the wilting flowers with new ones so they knew their devotion was still appreciated after they were gone. Once a month you would help clean off the headstones and make sure everything was well kept.
You weren’t the only one who came to visit. Obviously family members and relatives came to pay their respects or check in. The groundskeeper quickly became your friend after he accidentally locked you in one of the mausoleums during his nightly rounds.
Dusting off the gothic angels that kept watch over the Emeritus brothers, you remembered the door being chained shut behind you. He didn’t come back until morning to find you asleep on the well swept floor. That night you appreciated the time to study the ornate decor - once you found candles to light the room of course. Each brother had a distinct design outlining their final resting place. It was beautiful.
The next morning you spoke with the groundskeeper and all was well. He took extra care to make sure you weren’t in any small cracks before he locked up anywhere after that. It became quite a funny story.
This trip out would be no different. Armed with a basket of Mountain’s newest and prettiest flowers, you happily strolled towards the cemetery gates. The ghoul kept a separate batch just for the occasion, helping the newer ones grow if they weren’t quite ready.
The theme for this week were tulips, a batch of baby blue, peach and yellow. You had enough so each resident got one of each. The gate creaked as it opened and shut behind you, walking up the grassy hill to where your silent friends waited.
“I’m comin’, I’m comin’– this walk never gets easier,” you panted, holding the skirt of your habit as you finally reached the top.
You always started from the left, working around to the right. Weaving back and forth between the rows, you placed the flowers delicately at the base of the headstones with a smile. The sun was starting to set beyond the hill. Your chores ran late so you were out later than normal, most days you were finishing up and headed back to the Abbey by now.
Turning the corner to start the last row, you stopped to count the remaining stems, making sure Mountain had given you enough. Your head shot up at the sound of a branch loudly snapping beyond the treeline. The wind kicked up, causing the gate to creak at the base of the hill as you tried to make out whether you could see who was there. Convincing yourself it was just an Earth ghoul doing a perimeter check, not noticing anything out of the ordinary you restarted your count.
“Twenty-eight… twenty-nine… thirty,” you nodded assuredly. 10 spots left. Just enough for everyone to get the same.
“Well, well. Look who we have here fellas.” A male voice spoke, startling you slightly. “You thought the ghouls were the weirdest thing in the Ministry, take a look at this one. Probably wants to dig them up and fuck 'em.”
You huffed in anger and turned to face them, placing the second last batch of flowers against the headstone. “What can I do for you?”
There were 3 of them. You didn’t recognize the other two, but the leader was in the same initiation group as you. You knew he was trouble when you both arrived at the Ministry. Clearly he was training some new goons in his tactics of being an asshole.
“Nothing, Sister,” he spat. “We were just coming by to make sure you were alright, being out here all alone. Wouldn’t want one of those feral ghouls coming and eating you up, now would we?”
“The ghouls are the least of my worries,” you said, gripping the basket tighter. You tried to look confident as they stalked closer.
You couldn’t tell where it originated, but a deep rumble weaved through the trees as the Siblings began to slowly surround you. The basket you carried slipped out of your hands as your nerves were quickly taking over.
“Look, we got her scared,” one of the newest members spoke up.
“Don’t come any closer. You know you aren’t allowed to h-hurt anyone.” You stuttered. “It’s against the rules.”
“And rules only apply to the living.”
You froze.
This time it wasn’t one of the trio that spoke. It was a gravelly, battle-hardened voice behind you. The faces of the boys in front told you all you needed to know. Their looks of terror extended beyond you, focused on where the other being stood. At least you assumed he was standing, you weren’t about to turn around and check. You just wanted to wake up from the nightmare this day turned into.
You shut your eyes, hoping this was all just a bad dream. A gust of air blew past and you heard a variety of growl-like rumbles off in the distance. Then it all went quiet. No more wind, no crunching of leaves, no taunts, or even breathing from the terror trio that were just mere inches from you.
Slowly opening your eyes, it was like it was all a dream. The three Siblings were nowhere to be found. The flowers were all in their rightful places. The last of the tulips waiting in the basket that sat at your feet.
You glanced around to see if they had given up and ran back to the Abbey, but the path up to the Ministry was clear. If they had started back, you would’ve seen them clear as day from the vantage point the cemetery had upon the hill.
You quickly placed the remaining flowers on the final grave before noticing a ghoul walking up the steps towards you.
He was tall like Mountain. He had a cloud-like mask that weaved through his dark, shoulder length hair and fully covered his eyes - indicating his element was at least part Air. As he got closer, you could notice the various piercings decorating his pointed ears. There were three more placed through the bridge of his nose and a couple around his lips. You wondered for a moment if they had been painful.
He walked as if he didn’t even notice you, completely lost in thought. His long strides carrying him quickly towards you before you gasped at the sight of blood splattered all over his chest and dripping down his face. He didn’t seem to be bothered in the slightest about it. You, however, had never seen anything like that before.
Your sharp inhale was enough to stop him in his tracks. His pointed ears twitched as he looked around without much direction, trying to locate exactly where the sound came from. It was at this point you realized this ghoul might not be able to see properly.
You weren’t sure why you slowly started walking towards him. He was clearly unstable and had just killed something, or someone. Yet the pull to him was hard to resist.
“Um,” you spoke softly, so as to not startle him. At this moment, you still weren’t sure if he even knew you were there. “Thank you for scaring them off. I really appreciate it.”
His attention turned directly to you, but it was different. Without eyes it was hard to tell exactly where his sightline was, but his head tilted upon hearing your voice.
Okay, so he can hear but he can’t see - noted.
You shuffled nervously under his obstructed gaze, slightly unsettled that he was just standing there without speaking. It was almost like he was studying you, the way his head tilted from side to side and his ears twitched back and forth before he finally spoke.
“It’s strange…”
No shit. “Want to elaborate? A lot of this is strange.” You replied, the reality of your situation slowly starting to settle in.
“I can’t hear you.”
It was your turn to tilt your head in confusion, raising your voice to try again. “I said: ‘What’s strange? A lot of this is–”
“No no, Kitten. I can hear your voice just fine.” The ghoul smirked, the situation clearly amusing him. “Your heart, I can't hear it.”
Your brow furrowed. You didn’t realize that being able to hear heartbeats was a common ghoul trait; you didn’t know much about ghouls to start with anyway, only talking to them in passing. Exchanging momentary glances and friendly acknowledgements in the halls.
“I apologize, where are my manners? What’s your name, little one?” He asked as he leant his large body against one of the headstones, flicking stones off the top with his pointed fingers.
You scoffed a little. You weren’t all that short, but you assumed to him everyone else would indeed seem quite small. You had a fleeting thought that his enormous stature would easily rival Mountain. “(Y/N)”
The ghoul seemed to like that answer, a large grin appearing on his face showcasing many of his sharp fangs.
“And you are?” You prompted.
“Felix,” he said nonchalantly. “But almost everyone calls me Cowbell, or Bell. If we’re close you can possibly call me Cow without too much consequence.”
You stifled a laugh, letting a small snort escape through your nose as you hurried to cover your mouth.
“Something funny?”
“No! Not at all. It’s just… Cowbell?”
Instead of being offended, his grin just grew larger as he became more amused. “An unfortunate nickname from a long time ago.”
You nodded, accepting the explanation.
“I hope you don’t mind me asking.” You moved in closer, resting against the headstone across from him. “Are you, blind by any chance? Sorry if I’m assuming. I just can’t help but notice all of this,” you were talking about the mask he wore, forgetting he couldn’t see your gestures. “And the way you look around.”
He nodded. “I am. From birth actually. I created this veil of sorts to stop people from staring. Apparently my damaged eyes are a little too unsettling for the Clergy.”
If you weren’t curious about this ghoul before, you sure were now.
“How come I’ve never seen you around the Abbey before?”
“I’m not allowed inside. I’m what you might call a ‘shit-disturber’.” He chuckles. “I was given an ultimatum: it was either solitary confinement in the catacombs, or living out the rest of my days in the woods.”
“That's awful!” You exclaimed. Never having been to the catacombs, you weren’t exactly sure what they were like. However, you knew he most likely made the right choice. At the very least, out here he was free to do as he wished.
“It’s not so bad, I promise.” He shrugged it off, the last of the pebbles discarded.
You sat in silence for a moment, the sun beginning to set. “You said something about… not hearing my heartbeat? Is that something ghouls can normally do?”
He shook his head. “No. It’s just a me thing. Since I don’t have my sight, my other senses are heightened. Hearing unfortunately being one of them. Heartbeats are like fingerprints, everyone’s is slightly different. Mixed with other things, it’s how I tell people apart.”
You nodded, trying to follow along as he explained.
“I can hear everyone’s all the time. Awake, asleep, it doesn’t matter. It drives me nuts most days, especially in crowds.” He paused. “I can’t hear yours though. As we’re sitting here it’s just... quiet.”
“Strange.”
“Indeed.”
The wind picked up and you shivered. Only dressed in your summer clothes, the suns rays were no longer warming you as it set behind the hills. The ghoul didn’t seem affected by the shift in temperature in the slightest.
“Do you know you’re covered in blood?”
The ghouls head tilted and you could see his lip curl in confusion before he let out a short laugh. “I didn’t, but that's a more common situation than you’d imagine.”
“Um…” you didn’t really know how to answer that, so you switched directions. “There’s a rainwater barrel beside the groundskeeper’s house. I could help you wash it off your face at the least? The clothes are up to you though.”
A genuine smile crossed his face at the offer. “That would be nice, thank you.”
He would never admit it, but no one had been this kind to him right off the bat. For most people it was a phase of avoidance and fear before they warmed up to his peculiar ways - the few people that he met before being banished to the woods that is.
The walk down the hill to the groundskeeper’s residence was mainly made in silence. Felix skillfully catching you from falling when you got halfway down, your foot sliding through a puddle of blood that stained the grass - remnants of the first body he dragged away by the throat moments ago. He was quick to convince you it must’ve been a wet spot from yesterday's rain. Praying the fading sunlight would keep his secret.
Alongside the house was indeed a barrel full of water. He would have to make a mental note of that for the future. He mainly used the lake to wash off the mess of his hunts, but sometimes he felt dirtier leaving the water than before he got in it.
In the Pit, Bell took very good care of his appearance. His skin was well taken care of, he took pride in his hair and the softness of his few patches of white fur. After being cast out, now he only had his tongue to groom himself. It was straight up humiliating. So the rainwater would be a nice change, at least fish didn’t shit in it.
You knew the groundskeeper left a few rags and things hanging on the clothesline in case you needed it. You figured this was a good enough reason to grab one. You told Felix to stay there while you went to pick one off the line.
There was a spout at the bottom of the barrel to fill watering cans or connect hoses, but you just popped the top off and dipped the corner of the towel into the water. You picked a dark grey one in the hopes that it wouldn’t suspiciously turn red.
Turning around with the damp towel you paused. “I– um… sorry I’m not 8 feet tall. Can you sit?”
He nodded silently and sat on the edge of the stone wall that ran alongside the house. “Woof.”
Your eyes went wide as he chuckled, clearly expecting anything but that response.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. You asked me to sit– never mind. Do continue.”
You couldn't help but let a soft chuckle pass through your own lips, now understanding the context. You took a quick look at his face, deciding where you were going to start.
“Can I start on your neck? The right side?” You wanted to make sure you didn’t startle him with the sudden touch, since he wasn’t able to see you coming.
“Of course, I can’t see where the blood is.” He tilted his head up and to the side, getting a better look at his numerous fangs and piercings at this angle while he spoke. “My cleanliness is in your hands. Make me look pretty again.”
This ghoul with his off-hand comments. You smiled and shook your head before telling him you were about to start.
Wiping the cloth over the stained areas, the mostly dried blood came off with surprising ease. All the while you were cleaning off his neck, you couldn’t get his comment out of your head. He was a pretty ghoul. Maybe not conventionally, he had a ton of piercings and you could already see a few scars, knowing he probably had a few more around at the very least.
You stood back to rinse out the cloth and re-wet it, turning back to find him grinning at you.
“What are you smiling about?”
“I could feel you staring.”
“Wh– how?” Your face flushed, you didn’t even know you were looking at him that long. “I mean I wasn't…”
“It’s alright, Kitten. You can stare.” He shrugs. “Not much experience with ghouls I’m assuming?”
You shook your head before remembering to verbalize. “Not really, no. In the halls mainly,” you began to wipe the blood off his jaw, working your way to the mass of red smeared over his bottom lip and chin. “You’re the first I’ve ever had a proper conversation with actually.”
He hummed in contemplation. “The first ghoul you’ve talked to. First time I’ve heard silence in someone’s company… today is full of firsts.”
“I like firsts, they always lead to interesting things.”
He couldn't help the smile that appeared on his face as you rinsed the towel one more time, returning to work on the main concentration of blood below his lip.
You tried your hardest to work carefully around his piercings so as not to bother them too much. There was so much blood that you had to rinse twice, rubbing with significant force before all that was left was a little bit on the side–
“Ow.” Felix mumbled, trying not to move.
Confusion crossed your face before your eyes quickly went wide, noticing the streak of fresh blood run down his chin. “Oh my gosh, did I do that?”
Felix’s chest rumbled in amusement. The sound was covered by conveniently timed thunder off in the distance as you dabbed at it, trying not to smear it further. If the sun had still been lighting the sky, you would’ve noticed that the blood was not red like the rest, but actually black.
“I don’t know where that came from. Huh.” He smirked. “Weird.”
You happened to look up. Noting his fangs on that side covered in it, as well as his tongue as it passed over the puncture wound on his bottom lip. You immediately took a step back with an unamused scowl.
“You did that on purpose.”
“Maybe,” his head tilts once again. It was clearly a ghoulish trait. “I just wanted to see how you would react. You got so worried, it was very cute.”
If your eyes could roll further back into your skull, you would be searching for the brain cell that made you fall for his tricks and immediately cussing it out. You huffed in frustration, turning to abandon your efforts before something behind you pulled you back into him.
“Your face was so close to mine, I just wanted you to stay there a little bit longer.”
Your brow furrowed as you looked over your shoulder to see what pushed against your back, only to find a strong tail with white fur at the end. Having never interacted with many ghouls before, this in itself was a bit of a shock. Nevertheless everything else that had just happened in the last hour. People simply do not have tails!
But he wasn’t really a person at the end of the day. Was he?

I think one of the most amazing things we can experience is seeing the growth of a person we love and care about. seeing that person become the most confident version of themselves, seeing that person want to be what they want to be no matter who likes it or not. and that's one thing i've always wanted for jeongguk. out of all the members jeongguk was always the one who cared the most about the opinion of others and the one who cared the most about maintaining a "maknae image". even in simple things like, having a muscular body. a few years ago jeongguk said he wanted to have the a muscular body but his company said he had to maintain a maknae image. jeongguk ever since his first interview when they debuted he always showed how much he loved tattoos and piercings. then he started getting "armys" telling him to not get any more piercings and never get tattoos. when he became an adult he even said that he was giving up on getting more piercings and tattoos because these people wouldn't like it. like??? he was always an apologetic person for things he shouldn't need. so after that jeongguk started to mention many times in interviews how he saw jungkook artist and jungkook offstage as a totally different person. he was often very hard on himself offstage. he truly believed that he was two different people. and it was something that lasted for some years. it was at the same time that he shared with us the maspierce called 'decalcomania'. it was a time that I was really so worried. I just wanted him to feel that we were here for them. i wanted so much to help him see that we love bangtan on stage but one of the things that makes bangtan so special is the members. the personality of each member. that we love bangtan on stage but also the bangtan offstage that they feel comfortable sharing with us. I just love it so much when they share with us personal things about their personalities, their personal thoughts. this is something that makes us connect even more with them.
so after that time bangtan had that time for them and jeongguk came back with tattoos. that was such an amazing thing for me. because for me that was also him making it clear that he was now becoming someone who won't let anyone else say what he can or can't do with his body. this may be a small thing for some people but not for others. even for a person who doesn't have a work like his, tattoos can be a liberation and you saying "this is my body and I do what I want with it". him having tattoos certainly had a huge and amazing impact.
after that we could already see how jeongguk was becoming a much more confident person. we could feel it watching him on stage. his stage presence literally changed into something so confident. it was such a beautiful thing to see. then onstage he did something i never thought he would do which is say he doesn't care who doesn't like him screaming "SO WHAT" loudly. It was something that really moved me lol. just see him making it clear that he doesn't care "so what" ;).
after this wave of confidence on stage and off stage jeongguk came with these lives. I've seen from the beginning people criticizing him for that. saying "he's feeding the delusional fans". as if he needed to do something to feed the people. these people will already act like this without or with these lives. he has no control over how someone will react to something he does. I don't think it's his fault that these people don't know how to separate things. everyone has their own opinion, but mine is that it's out of his control. these people live in a world they create. anything he or the other members does is going to be interpreted super wrong by them.
but back to talking about THE lives. since the beginning of them I feel that jeongguk wanted to show the real him to us, with these lives he wanted to show us that he is a human being like us. I really feel like he wants to take away that "perfect idol" image for a "person like all of us". i feel him wanting to break more free from the idol on the pedestal to a more two way communication between friends, equals. that's why I think he always mentions that we are friends, best friends. because I really feel like he wants us to see him as a normal person who has a work that's a little different than most people but in the end, he's just a 25 year old guy. and I find it really refreshing to see him showing it to us. this could be something that shouldn't even come to that point but many people put idols on a pedestal. and that idols have to be perfect and we know it's not like that. they just have a different work than most people but in the end they are human beings like us. who will make mistakes and that people will not always agree. he wants us to respect that he is a real person and an individual with his own wants and needs. i really believe jeongguk is being so real in these lives. a lot of things can be interpreted as fanservice but honestly I think it's something so natural to him that he doesn't realize it. I think you can tell that jeongguk is something that "flirts" naturally, especially it seems like he gets even more when he drinks a little lmao. I really see it as his thing. you can see that nothing feels forced. it's him just being himself in these lives. it's just him being real. in these lives besides showing him being himself, a 25 year old guy, he is really putting boundaries on his relationship with armys. and I LOVE IT! he's making it very clear and in a very gentle way that it's his life. he's also making it very clear that he's going to do things that maybe some armys won't agree with and he's aware of that but he's going to keep doing what he wants. he's also making it pretty clear to anyone who hasn't figured it out yet that he's A 25 YEAR OLD PERSON. AN ADULT AND WHO WANTS TO BE TREATED LIKE AN ADULT. I really see jeongguk wanting to create a very healthy relationship between him and his fans. obviously there will be people who won't see it that way but it's not his fault.
we don't know what he plans for his album but decolcomania was something he wrote at that time when he's feeling like a totally different person. I really think it's not a song that relates to today's jeongguk anymore.
i've been here with jeongguk since 2013. watching him grow into this wonderful person. this year with jeongguk has been very emotional for me and this live today was another thing that made me really emotional. seeing someone who didn't have self esteem, didn't have much confidence and didn't believe in himself (from the things he's said in the past) grow up like this is something soo beautiful. see how confident he is, how much he is believing in himself, trusting himself. seeing him saying "armys I understand that not always everything I do you will love but please believe me" and not "armys I'm sorry" is something really beautiful. it's like see a flower starting to bloom, its great.
I really wanted him to talk about the explicit version but I wanted it to be something he decided to talk about and not because someone called the song "dirty". what the hell??? but i was glad he talked about it and made it clear that HE decided he wanted to sing this version and that he is an ADULT and that he sees nothing wrong with singing this type of song. you may not like or feel uncomfortable listening to these songs but you cross the line when you say he can't sing that kind of song. you can't decide that.
one of the things I love the most to experience with my friends, family, people I love and care about is watch that person start to be the them they always wanted to be without caring what others say. it's really beautiful to see someone becoming a confident person. it seems that this person really gets a different light. I don't know how to explain it but the person really transforms into a beautiful version of themselves. it really is so beautiful. so I really am so happy to have the opportunity to see his growth. I love him so much! I'm so proud of him! he is someone so important to me. every member has such a positive influence on my life. I hope that with all that confidence from jeongguk he also influences some people to be more confident, to be more of themselves without caring about what others will say.

ace who had a whole ass conspiracy board abt who the other basketball team members are dating vs. Jamiazu being vague as hell, Jamil never talking abt personal info, and neither of them doing a ton of pda (but just enough to make him suspicious) and also florid. Just being them.
Thank you for this amazing ask. Unleashing my ship demons rn to reply to this🙏
The moment Ace sees Jamil giving Azul a TINY genuine smile he already starts suspecting, he tells Deuce and the Ramshackle dorm and they all say he's just making up stuff, Ace keeps trying to explain to them how they're totally dating or they at least have a crush on each other like:
Tumblr media
Jamil is completely aware of how Ace knows him and Azul are dating and I can see two outcomes to this:
1- He mentions it one day casually acting like he doesn't know Ace was for months looking like a conspiracy theorist trying to prove their relationship and then he laughs with Azul about it later.
2- Jamil and Azul decide to mess up with Ace. Everytime they're walking down the halls and they see that he's the only one there they hug each other and start acting like a typical overly affectionate couple on purpose. They do this multiple times and then when Ace asks Jamil about him dating Azul he goes "Dating Azul? Try coming up with better jokes next time" Ace loses his mind everytime Jamil says that, he's convinced they're messing up with him but after weeks of gaslighting he starts thinking it might be his imagination.
Now you would maybe ask: why they would do this? Because I think they should be evil/chaotic together. They're already busy enough with their own tasks and they spend a lot of their time together relaxing (like cuddling, talking about their days or stuff about themselves, doing schoolwork together, etc-) they're only missing the being evil together, I want to see them pulling little pranks on people and having fun (Also neither of them had the possibility of doing this when they were kids, Azul was studying all the time and refused to participate on pranks the Tweels would pull, while Jamil had to take care of Kalim and prevent him from dying).
I think that they don't exactly hide their relationship but they don't show a lot the fact that they're dating?) Or at least from Jamil's side. Azul takes every chance he gets to mention HIS BOYFRIEND JAMIL in any conversation he has, he wants to make sure everyone knows that he's dating the beautiful and smart Jamil Viper, but then in public they don't do stuff like high PDA or kisses and shit so people get mixed signals and they think Azul is lying about Jamil being his boyfriend💀 they can believe almost anything that comes from Azul's mouth, but him dating Jamil??? Not in a hundred years.
-
With Floyrid it's a slightly different situation. Just like Jamiazu no one really expected them to be dating, not even Ace, he was expecting Riddle to end up murdering Floyd rather than them dating. Worst of all is that he found out on accident, I can think 100 different ways of how Ace found out they were dating but idk which one to write so this is up to your interpretation.
I think I would need to do a whole separate post for them, I have a lot of ideas. Don't trust my word though I might forget to write it💔
Thank you again for this ask!!! It was pretty fun to think about and write, you're always welcome to send me stuff like this :3 Ranting about my favs is my favorite thing so I love this kind of asks.

Suspicion
Suspicion (S02E05) is a Teyla-centric episode but it has some very interesting moments.
First, while we have to wait several seasons to hear McKay call Sheppard by his given name, which he only uses in tense situations, Sheppard does the exact opposite. He calls him Rodney most of the time but changes to McKay when things get serious.* The episode starts with McKay getting hit straight in the face with a wraith stunner, Sheppard quickly jumping in to check up on him. For the third episode in a row one of them winds up unconscious on the floor, albeit now at the onset of the episode.
Tumblr media
This episode also marks the beginning of giving the audience a glimpse of how the private time between Sheppard and McKay differs from how they behave toward each other when other people are around. Sheppard shows that he cares about McKay ("You seem nervous"; "You still seem nervous") and twice in the episode makes sure that he is okay following a wraith attack (verbally and through touch). You could claim that he cares more about the safety of McKay because the other two members of his team are capable fighters, and surely that's a part of it. McKay is also a valuable asset for the expedition. But these things don't explain the tenderness Sheppard displays privately and how this turns to near flippancy the moment other people are within earshot.
By this time, they are already starting to work seamlessly as one which is really quite amazing considering how early days this is:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also a pattern emerging in that Sheppard is shown looking at McKay do sensual things (in the sense of relating to the senses). In the previous two episodes, we watched Sheppard watch McKay wolfing down a power bar, which might be interpreted as phallic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this episode, he watches McKay first drool from his mouth on the hospital bed and later, rub his foot on the table in the meeting room, and even later on, he is seen watching McKay's hands on two separate occasions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What are you doing, Major?
The thing is, we are actually invited to watch Sheppard look at these things. He is making note of them. He pulls faces when he makes note of them. Sure, we can interpret Sheppard finding these things distasteful. Learning the idiosyncracies of his new team member, new friend. At the very least, we're supposed to find these moments humorous.
But he sure is paying attention to these things. Even when he's in a world of pain he's making note of them. Noticing and mentally cataloguing things that someone does is also a classic sign of attraction. One could also describe Sheppard as having an oral fixation as he brings up Rodney's mouth even completely unprompted: "At least your mouth still works fine."
Tumblr media
We are actually asked to connect these things to sex in that Rodney is also stuffing his mouth during the "Size doesn't count" conversation in Hide and Seek (S01E03). The use of food as metaphor for sex is also lampshaded in this very episode:
Zelenka: I just can't bear the same meal day after day after day. McKay: Well, buck up a little. I'm trying to run a diagnostic. Zelenka: Sorry! McKay: I mean, we are stranded with limited resources in another galaxy. Come on, the nearest Bob's Big Boy is three hundred million light years away. We have to make do. If that means you have to eat my favourite food two days in a row, so be it. Zelenka: You enjoy military rations? McKay: I know. It's weird. Hospital food too. The only reason I don't like airplane food is you can't get seconds and I'm an absolute ...
But it's not just the mouth that Sheppard's fixed on, it's Rodney's whole entire body. His bodily functions. Which are also connected to food in the episode (as in, Sheppard graphically describes functions of the body and then jumps straight to food):
Sheppard: Without inertial dampening we'd be hit by so many gees our eyes'd pop, the skin'd pull away from our faces, our brains'd squish up to the back of our skulls and our internal organs would be crushed into these chairs... What about that sandwich?
In the beginning of the episode, Beckett tells McKay in front of Sheppard: "Your body experienced a full overload to its sensory and motor nervous system." It was the wraith stunner that did this to McKay but Sheppard seems to be suffering from a similar predicament just from observing the other man.
By the end of the episode the concept of hunger is highlighted through the captured wraith. Sheppard tells him (and bringing up someone's name unnecessarily is also a classic sign of attraction): "I wonder what hurts more: the gunshot wound or the hunger? Because I'd love to help out but how did McKay put it? We can't meet your dietary requirements."
They have every intention of starving the wraith. But the wraith is not the only one starving here. Sheppard is hungry for something that a turkey sandwich cannot satisfy.
.* We actually have to wait until the next episode to hear Sheppard use the name "Rodney" (in a non-tense situation, as it were) but it is implied that he is already using it by this episode in McKay's line "Oh, really? I thought you said, 'Rodney, you don't have to do this'," in which he refers to something he wishes Sheppard said and presumably communicating it in a way that Sheppard would say it. At the very least, in this episode McKay gives Sheppard the permission to use his... chosen name.

i read your reblog last night right before bed and i really shouldn't have because i couldn't fall asleep because of how damn giddy it had me like skjkdjjd kicking my feet with the biggest dorkiest smile on my face like this is MY WIFE FRFR we're 🤞😤🔐
i can't believe light was inspired by the absolute bread crumbs that i threw into your ask box like i had to go back and read what you could have even taken from that lmao 💀💀 what's crazy is that i remember being 🤏 so close to adding light to my favorite ateez songs (mostly bc of that yunho fancam iykyk) but yes, seonghwa is just soso made for angel fiction, it's woven in his dna.
speaking of light!seonghwa, your explanations do make much more sense now concerning his romance arc and the dynamic with reader. i'm also very prone to bad-boy-blindness so 😔😔 i can fix him frfr (reader is a scientist after all). and omg the sequel ideas, i think it'd be time to bring that betrayal arc to life. reader.. cleans up the angel with dr. choi's help and then he rids of them and all otherworldly messes they left behind once and for all. & goes public about his (and reader's) research under a heroic preface. 😈 and since the angel ended seonghwa's business by then. they can fight it out in heaven or hell, wherever they end up. everyone's happy ever after?
it's like the answer was there all along. if everything/everyone has evil and good inside of them of course there isn't one or the other to find balance with each other. only out-doing each other's evilness/goodness. 😮‍💨
you can use me anytime to yap your brains out. i love love love hearing about the behind the scenes, the process and (original) train of thought and how different our interpretations can turn out to be. i'd read it over and over again, like enrichment that gives the story more life. 🥰
still can't believe light was for me. like. huh? me? 👉👈 i caused this? and you did all the amazing work. 😭 this is one of the sweetest things anyone's ever done and you being so shy to mention it until the very end!! like skjsdfjkn i was already rolling around in bed and you had to put the cherry on top and break me 🫨🫨 is there another step after marriage because?? pls don't say divorce lmao
YOU'RE A GIFT! MOST PRECIOUS! ALL THE LOVE FOR YOU! MWAH MWAH 💖🫦 (tell me these essays we write aren't the modern way of handwritten loveletters)
○ chron 🃏
omgg stop that's exactly what happened with me when i read your reblog I SPENT AN HOUR ON IT A SOLID HOUR i did it for my wife frr 🤞😤🔐 and then i kept thinking about it and ugh readers like you make writing so worth it :'))
omg yes bruh bc i had no idea what to write next, and ever since your dazzling light reblog it got me thinking if i could write more angel fics and then you sent your preferred tropes and genres in the ask and i um cooked sth up with what i had hehe (seonghwa was the member of choice bc i hadn't written him in a while, and the title just fit so well even tho it was mostly unintentional lmao) and omg yes light is such a sweet song and yunho fancam hehe i think i know what you're talking about
bad-boy blindness is so real, me as the writer had it and then i had a few days off from writing in between and that's when clarity hit me-- that seonghwa is supposed to be the villain, the baddest. he gets no redemption, and that is his tragedy. and omg not you going strong with the betrayal arc AHAHAHA i mean... greed is a real thing. reader had it. dr. choi def has it too. he's capable of doing that heuheuheue. i don't think we could ever get a happy ever after in this fic tho 😭 we did it with hala hala we couldn't do the same thing here :')
aw that's literally so sweet of you. i mean it when i say, readers like you are genuinely what makes this site worth it and what makes me want to write and post. and honestly, talking about the process of writing a certain fic or the different interpretations of it etc makes me the happiest! it's my fav thing and i always look forward to talking about it in the reblogs, comments or anywhere (and i'm glad readers are able to pick them details or ask about it-- and you def do every time it's the best thing ever :')) thank you!)
YES. light was for you. i honestly should have tagged you (i'll tag you next time i promise) but i have to credit you for the trigger that brought this fic to life- the dazzling light reblog (which got me thinking about angels) and then the tropes/genres (which got me thinking what if seonghwa angel and angel bad) LMAO yes that was my thought process. and i'm very shy even tho i may not seem like it lmao
OMG did i break you AHAHAHAHA next step after marriage is definitely divorce (i'm about to say sth 18+ i have to stop myself but just read that rolling around in bed putting the cherry on top and breaking you line in a diff context-)
NO YOU ARE THE GIFT YOU ARE SO SOOO PRECIOUS AND THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU LOVE 💖💖 HOPE YOU HAVE A LOVELY WEEK!

The Everyman Problem
So, I've had a kernel of a Bionicle post rattling around in my for a couple weeks that I haven't quite been able to articulate, but I think I might have the angle to explain it now.
I'm an "old Bionicle fan": by which I mean, I'm old enough to have got into Bionicle in the "Mata Nui" era (2001-2003). A glance at the notes on my big [unfinished, looking abandoned] alt-canon fanfic shows that I'm old enough to have disliked the change of the Toa from Mata to Nuva... in 2002.
So, which that as background, remember that I'm old enough to remember a time when it wasn't known at all that Matoran, Toa, and Turaga were all the same "species."
Thinking back on it, I don't think I initially "noticed" the revelation that no only were the Turaga were former Toa, but the Toa (Metru) were Matoran before that--Takanuva too, but he was something of a special case. In 2004, I was really just absorbing that Vakama, Onewa, etc. were former Toa--that "Toa" might mean something other than "single demi-urgic hero of each element." I got there eventually, as far as acceptance goes, but it part of my age-related fade out of the Bionicle fandom.
2006, on the other hand, emphasized the other part that I'd ignored more during the LoMN/WoS era: that Toa came from Matoran. I still don't love this, but until last night I couldn't really lay a finger on how to express why.
I thought it might just be my habitual stick-in-the-muditude: you changed Jaller from Captain of the Guard! You changed Matoro from Nuju's stoic interpreter to a worry-ridden saviour.
I also thought it might just be the genre shift: it's all fantasy, of course, but it's a different thing from the island mythology-vibe of Mata Nui to the Lost City of Atlantis vibe of Metru Nui (and then the vibes beyond). I like the Toa more as unique elemental avatars than evolved Matoran, but that's not really it either.
Last night, though, I watched later era Marvel movie--it doesn't matter which one, because they all have this problem--and as the credits were rolling, I realised that the reason I don't really like the MCU is much the same as this "problem" I had with Bionicle: if just about anyone can be a superhero, you lose the "ordinary" members of the story.
Putting it another way, I realised I prefer "chosen one" stories to "X-men" stories. This is probably the Tolkien fan to some extent: you can have a world full of magic and heroes and super-powers, but if it also has "ordinary" folk, their specific importance in the story is that they ARE ordinary: Gandalf and Aragorn are heroes and amazing, yes, but Frodo never "levels up"--he is a greater person at the end of the story than the beginning, but it is the growth of an ordinary person.
Because superheroes are so common in the MCU (or DCU, etc), it's hard to have ordinary people be front and center--and harder still for them to stay ordinary people. And something like that is my problem with where Bionicle went that I don't think ever fully resolved for me: part of the wonder of Mata Nui, the whole storytelling point of MNOG is that the Matoran contribute to the victory too: they have no mask powers, no elemental powers, but they are there to help the heroes and do their part and its essential.
This already starts changing with MoL, it changes more with LoMN, and by the time we get to the Voya Nui arc, we've gone "Full MCU": everyone in the story can be a Toa.
I think, if the Inika had been "four or five" new characters and only one "already-known" Matoran, I'd have been much happier. But when you take the most prominent Matoran from every tribe and make them all Toa... who's left? The headcanons that the Chronicler's company become Toa too both satisfy and don't work for me for this reason. They satisfy me if they leave the Inika as Matoran, because I think that was a better way to go; they annoy me if they're BOTH Toa now, because that exacerbates what I think is the "problem" here.
It's not really a problem, objectively, but it is my subjective sticking point. And it's the reason that even though I might keep most of this lore, despite the grumbling, I'm willing to jettison completely and utterly the idea that "only some Matoran are destined to become Toa." Destiny is always a hard thing to make work in the story, but the Doylist result is that Matoran now come in two categories: Special Protagonist and Ordinary: and the Ordinary is now completely swept off the stage and I really don't want that: I want the story to include a real focus on some powerless, ordinary individuals.
So I'd rather it be that ANYONE can turn into a Toa: they don't, maybe, because the circumstances lead there, but every Matoran has that potential. Because if anyone COULD be a hero, then at least when they do become a hero, it's more ordinary.
But I'd still rather that none of them could--but I'm not sure that is a concept you could return to without retconning Gen-1 so far that you end up with Gen-2. And I don't think I want THAT either.

This is a different anon, but i want to continue on the points you've said about Alucard, the new fandoms interpretation of him, and hellsing and correcting some stuff. First of all thank you for actually giving good points on why youre not fond of the recent fans of the fandom, and i agree with most of the points you make. New Alucard fans are so weird because they will objectify him and miss his entire character completely and or water it down,,and for the "Vladdy big bara tiddies mm" people, whats up with that mandela effect? He was shown shirtless and he was hairless in both anime and manga, you guys should try actually watching the anime next time. Not sure where to start on the Alucard x integra part because of how jarringly popular it is, but "almost just as bad as aluseras" isn't accurate to me because atleast Aluseras is legal, Alucard and integra aren't (they met when she was 12, seras was 19). I personally dislike both, but the hate is more personal towards Alucard x integra because the only people who ship it are the people who heavily mischaractarize the both of them, and Alucard mischaractarization kills me, i can't care less about integra (sorry op) but even i out of all people know it's bad for her. The entire organization exists because they hate each other, yes, Alucard may not directly hate integra, but her grandfather is abraham for fucks sake. Why in the world would integra betray both her grandfather and father just to date the "monster" that they spent all their lives trying to defeat. The literal Dracula x any Hellsing member will never work, Alucard only works for the organization out of respect for abraham after he (a human) managed to defeat him, and his job is to serve the family and any master who comes after, which right now is integra. There is no romantic chemistry at all, it's his job. (Sorry for the ramble op, theres just too many reasons why this ship sucks ass) i think the abridged ruined a generation by forcing it on everyone. For your second point, Alucard and seras weren't canonically said to have a father/daughter relationship by the author, but some writers who worked on Ultimate, and even so they said they were unsure (correct me if im wrong pls!), but seras has pip anyways so it obviously won't be anything more. I personally only like Alumina because its the most canon with Alucard, althought it's left very vague so we don't fully know, kouta hirano has stated that Alucards story is more accurate on Draculas part rather than Vlads, which means he most probably loves mina. "He was in his girl form the entire time in WW2" it wasn't actually the entire time, in a short backstory shot, there was Alucard (with his normal red coat shown, no hat or glasses tho) shown next to young walter (same as the dawns), he turned into a girl to prove a point to walter after they arrived in the melliunium base (walter asking "wheres your form" to Alucard, indicating that it may be a first time thing") but the dawn is unfinished so we wont know if he changes between forms, but he was still shown in his male form in 1944. For people who read the last post, the bonus book op is reffering about is the official hellsing guide book (im guessing since you mentioned it has no translation, i recently got a hold of it and im currently working on a translation myself) And yes KH was a hentai artist, the original Hellsing oneshot (Legends of the vampire hunter) was actually a hentai too, easier to find translated than most of his older work. And for that last part, you're real for that i support you op (again sorry for all the rambling and thank you so much if you read!!)
I won't stand for the Sir Integra slander here but thank you for correcting me on the Hellsing lore anon!
And yes, I was talking about the guide book. Obviously anon, but getting a translation of that would be amazing, there's so much content we're missing out on from that ;-;

how abt ritsu kageyama for the character thing!
Anon you have opened a can of worms. Here it is!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The transcript down below because god knows this is unreadable. I am so sorry. TLDR: i get him now. He's literally #me
TRANSCRIPT:
RITSU. ok ritsu. this one can go very personal so ill explain a few things first. ive only RECENTLY liked ritsu because i honest to god see so much of myself and my relationships i have irl in him. first time i read the clean up arc (i was 15) i was like. "why would he do this. wtf" it was bc THAT was his method of achieving catharsis and just. cleanup arc in general was my least fav part of mp100 but now im like. oh. i get it. i get why he "acted up" the way he did. the way that the expectations ppl around him has put on him as being "the good kid" etc etc and how suffocating that was for him its just that going AGAINST that preconception for him felt freeing. and how he thought that this is it. this is my villain arc. my #badguy arc. he was letting all his pent up emotions out and he thought he was morally reprehensible for it (not to say that his methods was good in any way. ofc not.) ritsu in the clean up arc is the "why does everyone ask why i caused that problem? why doesnt anyone ask how was the catharsis? was it good? was it fun?" post.
the stress and guilt from the clean up and the pent up emotions he has w mob exploded and he let all of it out and it felt freeing and horrible and then it was all swept away after the confrontation w mob and scar and the later apology in the 7th division. its like almost all pretenses he kept up with mob was gone and they can finally speak to each other as brothers without feeling like treading on thin ice. i genuinely cannot get into how much i like and how much i see myself in him without getting too personal (and if my interpretation of him is different from the fandoms then sorry lmao i dont read meta on him a lot)
i genuinely love his overarching plot with mob and coming to terms his insecurities and inferiority complex, never feeling enough, dismissing his accomplishments bc thats not what he thinks as accomplishments, his once strained relationship with mob, his fear for and towards him, and the conclusion to all that in the finale. amazing. showstopping. and even with all that he cares for mob so much and im like. im genuinely glad that theyre able to speak to each other more candidly without treading on thin ice etc etc etc.
i also love his parallels w shou about the fear of a family member going too far. how it leads you to put up defenses to keep them calm or in shous case to stop them from going too far. my god. this is long. sorry LOL

Decided I want to post this big project I did back in late May/early June! This was made to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the release of Owl City's album Cinematic, on June 1st! It'll be a long post, so just be aware of that lmao
Since I started listening to Owl City again earlier this year, Cinematic has become my favorite album of his and one of my all time favs in general alongside Abandoned Pools’ Humanistic and Beat Crusaders’ EPop Making!
So with that, I wanted to draw something based around each song! With 15 songs on the album (not counting alt versions), they all translated nicely into pieces for this project! I also included a film border around each piece to tie them together, as well as due to the fact that on the album itself, each song is about a different experience or memory Adam Young has had throughout his life. He's said that he felt like writing these songs was like watching scenes from a movie, hence the name Cinematic!
As a sidenote, 4 of my characters (Shep, PBnJ, Rye and Pumpernickel) are in a cover band together called Let's Get Back!, and in addition to just celebrating Cinematic, this would also sort of be a cover album by them, hence why it says "Let's Get Back! presents" on the banner :] I'll post more abt Let's Get Back! down the line, but if you'd like to read about them now, you can check out their info hub! These pieces are almost all just Shep, despite Let’s Get Back! being a 4 member group. But since Owl City is just Adam Young, having most of these just be Shep made more sense haha
Piece by piece/song by song breakdown below the cut :]
Tumblr media
Track 1: Fiji Water!
A song about jumping into something new and going wherever the ride takes you, since it was about Adam’s experience with signing onto a record label. The water slide vibe just felt rlly fitting here and was really fun to work with!
Tumblr media
Track 2: The 5th of July!
Considering I was born in January rather than July like Adam was, I wanted to make this one as young Shep enjoying the fireworks, as they’ve always been something that’s fascinated me :]
Tumblr media
Track 3: All My Friends!
My second favorite song on the album!! It’s so joyous and fun I love it so much! Of course, had to draw Shep with all his friends! This piece by far took me the longest out of all of these at more than two days lmao. It features (from left to right): Starburst, Rye, Luau, Shep, PBnJ, Pumpernickel and Wilkołak!
Tumblr media
Track 4: House Wren!
Another joyous song about looking for a new house and having a song to sing while doing so. Just Shep listening to the house wren sing it’s happy song, simple yet effective :]
Tumblr media
Track 5: Not All Heroes Wear Capes!
A really sweet song Adam wrote about his dad. To capture that sort of innocent admiration, I drew something Shep would have drawn for his dad at 8 years old and I think it came out super sweet <33
Tumblr media
Track 6: Montana
I love the feeling of grandeur in this song, with lyrics about how enchanting and spectacular the landscape of Montana is! I’ve never been there myself, but I’ve seen pictures and yeah, it’s definitely amazing! So Shep is out there enjoying the amazing scenery
Tumblr media
Track 7: Lucid Dream!
A much more abstract song to balance out the others, I wanted to capture the very, floaty starry vibe of this song for lack of a better term haha. I really like the simplicity of it! I also love the line in the song about being a light sleeper, but a heavy dreamer
Tumblr media
Track 8: Always!
This is the one song on the album that doesn’t quite hit the mark for me, and that’s because it’s a song centered around faith. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, I’m just not a religious person. So I decided to interpret the meaning as always having a person you can love and count on to always be by your side, hence why I did it with Shep and PB, who in addition to being bandmates, are also bfs hehe :]
Tumblr media
Track 9: Cloud Nine!
Another one of my favs, this is such a PBnShep song <3 What I went for here was a look like they’re outside stargazing and Shep is telling PB how much he cares about him while pointing out some of the amazing things in space
Tumblr media
Track 10: Winners Never Quit!
A nice and cheerful song about never giving up and keeping on! I love the message of this one and it’s sort of retro chiptune vibe. Pretty straightforward here, just Shep with a big checkered flag for reaching your personal finish lines!
Tumblr media
Track 11: Madeline Island!
My personal favorite out of the three travel related songs on the album (this, Montana and New York City), this one has the same feeling of grandeur that Montana does, but even more so! I also love the story of a camping trip to this island in Lake Superior, so I decided to do that! I also stylized it a bit with colored lineart for the landscape and I rlly like how that came out! Another piece that's up there as one of my favs from this project hehe
Tumblr media
Track 12: Be Brave!
A song about the night Adam met his girlfriend at the movie theater, this is another very sweet song with a message about believing in yourself and well, being brave! Shep tends to get flustered and nervous sometimes when meeting up with PB, especially early on, so this song fits him well
Tumblr media
Track 13: New York City!
The boys take a trip to NYC and look up at the spectacular Empire State Building! Having grown up about an hour outside of NYC my whole life, I don’t quite have the same ethereal view about it that others might, but I won’t deny it’s impressive! The Empire State Building especially is one of my all time favorite buildings :]
Tumblr media
Track 14: Firebird!
A song about growing up, this is another one I really love. I feel like a staple of childhood is sitting with your friends outside at a wall or something similar and just talking abt life and enjoying each other’s company, so that’s what I went for. It’s another simple piece that I really enjoyed making as well as the final result!
Tumblr media
Track 15: Cinematic!
And the grand finale!! Cinematic is my favorite song from the album and my second favorite Owl City song overall, just behind Rainbow Veins!! After all of these songs that Adam wrote from his experiences, this song feels like a magnificent culmination of that and a passing of the torch to us to go and be the stars of our own movies and lives! It’s such an amazing song with a fantastic message and I can’t get enough of it! I also used some new brushes to make the film strip and I’m actually super happy with it!
So all in all, Cinematic is my favorite Owl City album and one of my all time favorites in general. Every song is unique and brings a great message and story. This project, although very time consuming, was an absolute blast to work on and brainstorm around. This album means so much to me and I really hope I was able to showcase some of that here. Please go give it a listen if you’ve never heard it before, or even if you have and it’s been awhile! I know there’s a lot of people who don’t like Owl City’s newer stuff, but give this one a fair shake! (Coco Moon is a fantastic follow up too btw hehe) So overall, thank you Adam for making such fantastic music for so long now and I can’t wait to see the show in Indianapolis later this year!!

I saw this photographer complaining about your use of the picture, too. Reading the comments was just …
Instead of calling someone a creepy conspiracy theorist because they interpret a photo (and real life comments and actions) differently than themselves, maybe they should try looking at things from another angel. This obsession with seeing Jensen as perfect and constantly having the time of his life is ridiculous and points to a huge bias. I’ll be honest, the particular picture in question, where Jensen looks in pain, could be him "living the music" but to me, he does not look like he’s just grooving. Also, there is video of the concert, so it’s not like people’s opinions are only based on photos.
The last time Jensen performed at a con, he was yelling, not singing, and yet they praise his amazing performance. Jensen has a lovely voice when he isn’t straining it, and is a good performer (usually), but that doesn’t actually mean he is an amazing, Uber talented singer. He was very good as Dean, but to say he never had over the top moments or ones that didn’t quite connect, is just not true. Saying he’s liberal and a huge ally is a huge stretch seeing as he is very closed mouthed on politics in general (I don’t actually blame him there, as if I were famous I’d want to appeal to the widest audience and would stick to discussing my art). Saying he likes Destiel now because he learned the hard way that criticizing the stupid ship gets him outright hate and death threats, is embracing willful ignorance. Jensen and Danneel can only be viewed as couples goals, despite the fact that their body language screens anything but affection. Jared is the bad guy because he cracked the illusion that Jensen is a perfect friend, professional and gentleman, and had a "tantrum" on Twitter because he didn’t let Jebsen off the hook or bail him out, for once, for his shitty actions around the prequel. Jensen supports Ukrainian and really cares about the issue, despite the fact that he starred in a commercial promoting Atomic Heart. Anyway, my point is the man is not perfect, no one is, but as soon as they see any criticism, they call the person delivering it crazy, a hater, or a miserable person who is just projecting.
I love my family, but that doesn’t mean I think it or each family member (myself included) is without flaws.
I started watching Supernatural as a Dean and Jensen fan. I was crazy about Dean until later seasons when he just got angrier and more hypocritical. At first, I admired Ackles for his love for Jared and humility, but his behavior (his inconsistency at cons, and how he talked about Jared lovingly one minute, then criticizing him at JIB or joking at his expense when he’s not there, while calling him brother in the next breath) would not allow me to keep blindly sighing over him. Not to mention, I noticed how his stories were always humble (or not so humble) brags. He isn’t consistent and changes for the crowd he’s in.
I’m sorry, but if you are the one who only sees someone as perfect and can’t acknowledge any flaws to the point that you need to attack anyone who dares mention one, then you are the one without a balanced view. Our observation are subjective, obviously, and you don’t have to agree with how someone elde interprets something, but to instantly write them off as just a hater or lying (unless it’s a provable lie, or delusion with no proof like hellers and cockles shippers) maybe take a look at your own objectivity and need to go to battle for someone you don’t actually know.
It saddens me that Jensen has such judgemental, toxic fans that only care about fetishiz*ing him. Then I remember there are also fans like you, who are able to see him as a real and complex person. Thank you for this beautiful post! 💕💕💕
I think the reason why they immediately resort to bullying and gaslighting is because they know they stand no chance of making eloquent, balanced arguments because they lack objectivity. I mean all they do is project, not only on others but on Jensen especially, he needs to be the fantasy they created and is not allowed to stray from that perfect image. I cannot imagine how painful that must be to him. No human is perfect and we all just want to be loved for who we are, not for some false image others build in their attempt to exploit our beauty, like in his case.

Could you please give us your thoughts on the ‘who is your celebrity crush’ moment?
Hi anon! So, I assume you are referring to the 2015 moment (when Jimin said his crush was Hobi) and not the 2018 moment (when Jin said “Brad Pitt” and Jk said “I know face but I don’t know name.” 😂)
Both are amazing though and provide an interesting window into how the members handle those types of questions.
Here’s how I interpret the 2015 moment:
Yoongi answered that his crush was the male host, and they stood up and gave each other the handshake-bro-hug move. There was a moment of quiet before the host said, “Anyone else?” Jin then said “Rap Monster.” After the reaction of the audience and the members, silence again.
The host then asks for someone in the back row to answer and that’s when Jimin says his celebrity crush is Hobi.
The theme here seems to be that all of the answers are lighthearted. To me, Jimin’s answer was cute…just like Jin’s. Yet, Yoongi’s response is noteworthy. He shrugs and shakes his head. This is, coincidentally, different from the way he reacts to Jin saying Joon. Interesting, interesting.
One theory I’ve heard is that Jimin was jealous about Yoongi’s answer so he “got revenge” by naming Hobi. However, I don’t see much of a reaction from Jimin when he hears Yoongi’s answer AND Jimin was hesitant to answer the question. The host had to ask two more times and specify he wanted to hear from the back row before Jimin spoke up.
On the other hand, I do sense some discomfort from Yoongi in that moment. It’s really hard to say what caught him off-guard about that answer, especially since Jimin’s answer was right in line with the previous two. Yet Yoongi seemed a little bothered. In my opinion.
The other thing that is mind-boggling is that the interview happened fairly early on…July 2015. I don’t think ym had really figured things out by that point, so that adds another layer.
Oh wow. I can’t believe my answer is this long about a clip that’s less than two minutes. Sorry! 😂
