An interesting demonstration of how the human brain works.
But also something of a lesson regarding perception, and the unreliability of subjective perspective versus objective reality.
You can be extremely certain about how you perceive the world, your "lived experience," that which you "feel it in my heart." But that doesn't mean it's actually true. And it doesn't mean we have to endorse it, or ignore or outright deny objective reality.
That's a "you" thing, not a "we" thing.

op was very obviously and openly a fascist so here's this cool video again without their weird bigoted rant added onto it lol
[ID: twitter screenshot of a tweet by user rainmaker1973. text reads: "In 1951, Adelbert Ames created the mind-boggling 'Ames Window'. It's so effective that even when you know how it works you can't break the illusion." Credit is given in text: "video from The Curiosity Show." with a hyperlink following it.

Ames Window
My brain is now spinning. Knowing it’s an illusion doesn’t help. Watch this, it’s amazing.

Watched a YouTube video on the Ames window illusion and decided to make one out of beads. Never mind that the horizontal pieces will probably be too floppy to really demonstrate the illusion in action, nope, we’re not gonna think about that.

why do we as dykes not have a cruising culture… sometimes i do not want the requisite first date staring soulfully into each other’s eyes and talking about our childhoods sometimes i want one brief sizzling glance at the grocery store and have it be immediately understood that i want two or perhaps three of your fingers inside of me as i cling to your jacket for balance in the single-occupancy bathroom and muffle my moans into my fist

god. GOD. the underlying anger in everything terry writes really IS apparent in hogfather bc fuck u mean this is how things should be? no the fuck it shouldn't. poor people shouldn't have to be satisfied with what they get, that's just fucking capitalism. i REALLY like that terry decided to use death as projection for what he thinks bc death doesn't know anything and it has to be explained to him and by it being explained to him it shows how fucking stupid those things are. bc ok here's this world where an equivalent of santa ACTUALLY exists and, because it mirrors our world, it's still unjust. santa actually fucking exists in this world and he could give ANYONE ANYTHING bc he's essentially a god and people gave him that power by making him up, BUT because ppl imagined him in a way that poor people don't get shit (like they usually do) and rich people get EVERYTHING they want, he exists like that. whereas death has seen the absolutely WORST of humanity and he STILL thinks that's bullshit and it's not how it should be, it's just how it goes. bc capitalism is always capitalism where there's money and the world will always be fucked up as long as there are oppressor to hold it up. like i just.

Anyone else come to some wildly different conclusion on Ghibli movies with age?
Kiki's Delivery Service: Kid: Being a witch is so cool! Adult: Growing up and growing apart from the life you had before is a natural progression of life. You aren't losing the old parts of yourself, just finding new pieces that were there all along. Life is about changing, you'll never stay stagnant.
Ponyo: Kid: She's such a cute fish, you should always follow your dreams! Adult: Leaving home will not take you away from your family. Even when you're miles away and you feel like you're in different worlds your family will still be there, encouraging you. Parents are meant to let go of their kids at some point.
Howl's Moving Castle: Kid: Sophie's a big sister like me! I want to a princess in a magic castle. Adult (I've also read the book): Sometimes you don't find your place in this world, you make one. The people that come along with you will see you through every ugly part of yourself and you would do the same for them. Chase after that shooting star.
Spirited Away: Kid: What just happened... Adult: SHIT HAPPENS! And it sucks, life sucks but you keep going. You can cry along the way. You are being so fucking brave for even going on this hellish journey we call life. It's okay. You're okay.
