Amuro talks in his sleep. It was adorable. Sometimes you’d wake up early in the morning his brown curls tickling your face or the back of your neck as he mumbled incoherent words. Usually, it’d be something related to mobile suits or whatever he was tinkering with at the time.

You’d bring it up during breakfast from time to time but Amuro would always deny that he talks in his sleep; more so because he doesn’t believe that he does than being embarrassed that he does. 

This little trait of his has become something you’ve come to cherish. Time together was limited after all with his work at Londo Bell and your own career sending you all over Earth or the Sides. 

You’d wake to Amuro sleeping peacefully, mumbling as he does. You’d give him a kiss on the forehead and drag yourself out of bed to get breakfast started but not before making sure to tuck him in. He’d wake up soon after that, all groggy and whinny, uncharacteristic of the put-together and serious persona he’d put on while on duty. 

One day just one more day like this and one more after that. you’d come to beg some high power as the sheer domesticity of slow mornings like this finally set it, let us have one more day like this and one more after that.

Strangely, he was alright when he sees you in person. When the sun's up and he's working in the cafe as you walk in every morning to get your tea, his thoughts and emotions are still alright. You are like a ray of sunshine on a rainy day to him, and someone he is harbouring some one-sided feelings for. He doesn't think anything will come out of it so he's decided to keep these emotions to himself. It is probably for the best he would tell himself.

However, it's always when he's driving in the middle of the night through all the city lights when his thoughts get out of control. Constantly you are in his head and no matter how hard he tries he cannot help but imagine what his life would be like, if you were by his side. How would you look if you were flustered? If he took you on a late night drive would you enjoy that? These thoughts would not leave him alone, and he was always left flustered after such a night.

He wasn't in middle school, he was a little too old to be having little delusions about a few feelings. Except he knew that was exactly the problem, they weren't just a few feelings. He was absolutely in love with you, he just knew it would be over as soon as he admitted it. If he was truly only the cafe worker you knew him as he would've made a move months ago, but he wasn't. He could put you in danger and the thought of that alone was enough to decide that his feelings have to go.

Yet, if one day the stars somehow align perfectly and you were to talk to him a little longer than usual, he was not confident he would be able to push you away. If some miracle occurs and you would give him one chance he could not promise he wouldn't take it. If anything, he would never mess it up.

But at the end of the day, it was all in his head, so when you walk into the cafe in the morning, you're of course only here for your usual tea.

"One Earl Grey tea coming right up," he said as he saw you walk in.

Immediately, you laughed. Your laughter meant the world to him, it was truly music to his ears.

Once he was done he poured in what others would think was a little too much milk, but it was exactly how you liked it.

"Here you are," he said.

"Amuro, could I ask something? You don't have to answer if you feel uncomfortable," you asked.

Confused, he nodded. "If it's something I can answer, I'd be happy to," he replied.

To his surprise, your face flushed a little. An expression he had never seen before.

"Do you... perhaps have a... partner?" you asked quietly, eyes glued to your drink.

Did he hear you right? Did you want to know if he had a partner?

"No," he said a little too quickly. "I don't."

"Really?" You asked and your eyes shot up to look at him. He was really going to start getting the wrong idea if you kept doing this.

"Could I please have your number," you asked very quietly and quickly and he knew that was it. There was no way he was letting you go now. He was going to make you his.

"I would love if I could ask you instead. Could I please get your number?"

I mean if you want to write on the pregnancy I’m interested in hearing your thoughts, I guess I went a little too dramatic in trying to come up with an idea lol

i think the way amuro would react to the news mainly depends on two things. how long the two of you have been together and if we're talking about zeta or cca amuro just because of the state he's in mentally in both iterations.

for cca amuro we have the non-canon (?) beltorchika's children novels that i love and hate as a good benchmark on his reaction tbh. wether or not you guys have been in a long term relationship doesn't matter because he'll take responsibility so he won't walk out on you (but axis will make him buy milk). in terms of like the relationship between the two of you having an already established relationship matters. he'd take responsibility which in this case can be child support to full-on marrying you (the things id do to marry amuro ray tbh) even if he doesn't really want to because to quote BC novel amuro 'it's not like i have a choice' which makes me lean on the idea that he'll marry you for the baby as that's his idea of taking responsibility.

for zeta amuro i just have one question. how?????????????? like in between joining karaba and his house arrest schtick did he have the chance to get laid and have a baby.

okay but seriously giving zeta amuro the weight of incoming fatherhood will make things worse for him. he was miserable and dealing with sm trauma from the OYW and adding a child into the mix is just terrible. i don't think you or him would be happy in this situation with amuro's inner turmoil and the constant stress/danger that he/both of you would be in during the gryps conflict.

overall i dont think amuro's the type of actively want a child and dreads the idea of being a father. personally i think parenthood would just make him more of an internal mess even if its the better adjusted cca amuro so yeah.

i like to think that in the surprise baby situation because im a sucker for sweet moments its in a timeline/au where amuro is actually given the time and support system during zeta where he isn't constantly getting called a coward for not wanting to fight or go to space because of magic newtype PTSD.

in this timeline i think he'd still have a certain degree of apprehension to the situation but would cope with it better and wouldn't straight up ghost you for 4-5 business days to let the whole thing settle in like i think cca and zeta would. like i said in cca he'd take responsibility but there wouldn't be any sort of driving force where marriage (if you guys aren't already) becomes the go-to ie char saw a dinosaur documentary during his quarter life crisis and decided to replicate it. or literally just his life during zeta. i think without that rush or push for marriage would do him good and help settle him for fatherhood.

anyways tldr; amuro has a lot going on in his life becoming a soon to be dad has a good chance of making things worse for him even if he doesn't realise it.
