My random comic Recs #1

I've been reading more comics lately, so I wanted to share my love for them in the hopes that someone might give this medium a chance!

Note: I am not a fan of superhero comics, because I simply don't like that genre, so don't expect superheroes below. Gonna make these posts every now and then and they will always include 4 recs. 1.) The Many Deaths of Laila Starr

Death got demoted and sent to earth as a mortal! Some boy is going to figure out how to cheat death in the future, and our girl Death really doesn't appreciate that. The entire graphic novel is only 5 issues long, so it's VERY digestible and easy to get through.There is something so light and playful about the art style, and the vibrant colors really sell it.

For people that are completely new to comics as a medium, I imagine that this is actually an A+ book to start with for the reasons I just mentioned. The way paneling and the flow of time is done in here, is a great example as to why comics are so unique as a medium and why they should be looked at as its own art from, separate from movies or books.

2) Mécanique Céleste (Or "Mechanica Calaestium" in the German translation, or "Aster Of Pan" in the English translation)

An absolutely breathtaking French comic. Aster lives in Pan, a post-apocalyptic France where she scavenges for wreckage with her friend Wallis. After their people come under a threat by the Federation of Fortuna, they are given a choice —submit to Fortuna’s rule or beat them in a weird Hunger Games-esque version of Dodge, called “Celestial Mechanics”.

The detailed art pieces in each panel, the careful line work, the lively way the characters move and the stunning watercolors captivated me from the first page. This graphic novel (now 2 volumes) is one of a kind and truly unique!

3) Something Is Killing the Children

Note: Comic contains a lot of gore and violence!

Children are starting to disappear in Archer's Peak. The ones that come back tell impossible stories that no one seems to believe. Only one stranger trusts these tales - a mysterious girl named Erica Slaughter who seems to be able to see these creatures too. And she's here for business.

I loooove Something is Killing the Children. I haven't finished reading the ongoing volumes yet, but I am super fascinated at how well the pacing goes in this story. The rough art style with Erica's freaky large eyes is SO fun, and you start appreciating it even more the longer you read.

4) Mon Ami Pierrot ("Mein Freund Pierrot" in German, "My friend Pierrot" in English)

Another fabulous French comic! Cléa is to marry soon - a young man name of Berthier. Right before the wedding she meets the fascinating magician Pierrot though, who completely changes the course of her life. Entranced by his whimsical nature that makes her feel "free" for the first time in her life, she follows him and leaves her previous life behind. During her stay with Pierrot, questions arise, though. Who is he really? All the while her betrothed sets out to find her again.

The Ghibli influence both art- and storywise is easy to make out, and I personally really enjoyed that. I particularly love the colors and the facial expressions the characters are drawn with. Everything feels very whimsical and playful and I had a good time going through this chonker of a graphic novel!

No spoilers, but I expected toothrottingly-sweet wholesome stuff, and ended up surprised on several occasions. I think the colours and art style really help give those moments wham, because you don't expect it.

Imagine Bolin preparing for his wedding. He is so excited and nervous, of course. Bolin wants to be the perfect groom, after all, he is about to marry the love of his life!

As Bolin was excited to get married, he wanted to help plan the wedding, making sure to be a productive part of setting up. Of course, he recommends green as one of the colors, but is open to working with whatever themes his bride has in mind. What he does know he can exceed at is the heavy lifting! Bolin thinks the best way to help with the wedding is to run around all of the shops and pick up the wedding supplies.

Bolin missed out on celebrating special events with his family, so he invites as many people from his family in Ba Sing Se as he can. Though he makes sure there is plenty of room for his bride's family as well. Then of course, all the friends they made together are also invited.

Bolin votes that the reception be lively, with dancing and music. Though he is the type of person to understand if the woman of his dreams prefers a more toned down reception, that he would make sure she enjoys it as well. That's why Bolin is so liked by all, of course, he makes sure he considers the feelings of others.

As the marriage progresses to having a discussion about kids, Bolin says he wants so many children, but realistically wants 2 to 4 kids, "To make sure I can still provide each one with enough love and attention," he says.

The first pregnancy and delivery, Bolin is a little too helpful. He reads a bunch of "life hacks" even though a good chunk of them are not actually that helpful. It takes some reminding, but Bolin learns to dial it back

The next pregnancies, Bolin is an expert dad. He learned what helps his wife and what she needs to stay away from to help with symptoms. Bolin's diaper bag is ready for anything!

As the kids grow, Bolin recommends social activities, like pee wee bending leagues, if they're benders, and other team sports. Thankfully, he does not push it on any of the kids that do not want to, so Bolin makes sure he supports whatever activities they're in to.

Bolin also makes sure to give the kids individual attention. He'll devote a whole day to hanging out with one at a time so each kid gets one on one time with their dad.

Then, by the time his kids are married and ready to have kids of their own, Bolin and his wife were the perfect example of healthy parents, that the grandchildren are raised super well.

Bolin knows his life is accomplished when he sees how happy his whole family is.

Chapter 10 (2/2) - Kirishima’s “roomies forever” party!

Summary: Is it gay to sleep in the same bed as your bro? What about getting married to him?

“Did you fuck before coming here?!” Katsuki yells right as you two stumble through the door. You thought you did a good job at putting Izuku together after your shenanigans but it’s not like you can magically make his swollen lips disappear.

“Kacchan! No! Uhm… we just… kissed a little bit, that’s all.” Izuku’s face is red as the tomato in your little garden thanks to the fact that Katsuki’s yelling made every single person in the room look towards you two.

“Oh my god, is it finally official? You and Y/N?” Mina perks up right away.

“Took them fucking long enough.” Katsuki rolls his eyes and you can’t help but notice that these guys have their own version of “smart casual” because… well…

Katsuki’s dress shirt is messy and his shirt is only half buttoned. Eijirou’s shirt is literally used as a cape. Kaminari looks like a mafia boss. He even has a fancy fedora. Shinsou didn’t even bother to put a dress shirt on he’s just chilling in his hero suit, clearly still on the call. Momo went all out and she looks absolutely stunning in her black dress, Todoroki is wearing the same style as her. He looks like a prince from another era. You don’t need to ask how their first date went after the camp to know those two are a thing now. Those are just a few examples.

“Let them be, Katsuki.” Eijirou puts his hand on Katsuki’s shoulder to calm him down. “Now that everyone is here, let’s start the celebration!” Kirishima yells and the whole gang sits down on the massive sofa.

Okay, let’s stop here for a second. Let’s talk about Katsuki and Eijirou’s place a little bit.

First of all, this place looks absolutely amazing and you can certainly tell who was in charge for decorating the different rooms because the open kitchen is minimalistic and super clean while the living room is full of pictures, knick knacks and colorful little things. There are pictures about their friends, their family but it’s mostly about the two living here; there are Polaroids all over the place, probably taken by Izuku on their camping trips then there is one long strip of them, probably from a Photo Booth - Eijirou is kissing Katsuki’s cheek while the other rolls his eyes annoyedly.

Wait…

“Ahh, you haven’t been here before! Let me give you a tour.” Eijirou literally pulls you away from the picture with his cheeks tinted pink. He puts a glass of champagne in your hand and ushers you to the other end of the room. “So this this is the living room and the kitchen, obviously. The door in front of you leads to the garden and the sauna which is a separate little building on the side. Then you have the gym room here, guest room here…”

“Wait, that’s Kacchan’s bedroom.” Izuku jumps into Eijirou’s sentence, utterly confused.

“Oh, we made it into a gym a few months ago, I was out of space in my bedroom.” The redhead retorts like it’s no biggie.

“Where does Kacchan sleep then?”

“In my room or the guest room. Depends if he’s grumpy or not.”

You can barely conceal your shit eating grin as you look at your boyfriends defeated face.

“Oh, so you… redid your room with two beds and stuff? Is Kacchan okay with sharing his personal space like that?” Izuku tries to save himself but by the confused look on Eijirou’s face, he’s not gonna win.

“Uhm, no, he kinda slept in my bed all the time anyway so his room was never really used…”

“Okay, stop gossiping.” Katsuki takes over as Eijirou starts to stumble over his own words out of embarrassment. “Yes, I sleep in the same bed as Ei. Then what? That room was fucking cold.”

“Oh, that’s why you cuddle me so much?”

Izuku almost chokes on his drink. This is the best day of your life.

“Duh. You are a fucking furnace. Perfect for my needs.”

“You okay, man?” Eijirou pats Deku’s back a few times to help him with out.

“Yeah, uhm… I just didn’t realize you have such a… close relationship… uhm, do you mind if I have a moment with Sweet Pea in the garden? I think I need some fresh air.” Izuku literally runs out the door before even waiting for an answer.

“Okay, did you guys talk about this behind my back? Is this a prank? And if not, how did I miss this? Actually, why did they not tell me? Am I not Kacchan’s friend? Am I not important enough to…” Izuku starts to mutter right away.

“Izuku, calm down.” You giggle as you pull him closer. “No, I did not tell them anything and I swear I have nothing to do with this even if it is actually a prank. I’m just as surprised as you are. Not about then sleeping in the same bed but about the fact that they admit it.”

“Oh my god, I feel like my whole world just turned upside down, Sweets. They are my best friends…”

“Calm your pretty tits, maybe they just sleep in the same bed to save some space. Don’t think too much about it for now.”

It’s so hard not to yell “I WAS RIGHT”. So fucking hard.

“Did you really need to comment on my tits? I know this shirt is a little bit too tight…”

“I had to. I like it. Now let’s get back, it looks like Eijirou is about to make a speech.”

“I’m so glad so many of you managed to get the night off. I know Hitoshi, Ochako and Iida has to go soon so I’ll do this now instead of waiting until the end of the night.” Eijirou starts his speech in his now buttoned shirt. He even managed to get a tie from somewhere. He looks weirdly anxious compared to his usual, bubbly self. “Katsuki and I have been through a lot together… hell, we’ve all been. We fought a war, we got hurt, we lost people who were close to us, we cried, we smiled, we re-learned how to live a normal life together.” The whole team nods at that, their faces already teary as Eijirou goes on. “Katsuki saved me from myself. I hated who I was, I hated my quirk but Katsuki slapped me in the face and made me believe that even I can achieve big things if I try hard enough. Uhm… how was it again?” Eijirou pulls out a little paper from his pocket to take a look and the whole gang laughs. “Duh, of course I had to memorize this, I ain’t a fucking Coelho. So back to what I was about to say… yeah, so… it has been 7 years since we moved in together and I still remember the day Katsuki told me that I have no choice but to move in with him after graduation. I was terrified but also so fucking happy because while I was extremely excited to be a hero and love my own life I just couldn’t see myself without him by my side. I was afraid that I’ll loose contact with all of you. But here we are, the Bakusquad, still together. But… Kats, can you come over here?”

Katsuki looks like a deer in the headlights as Mina ushers him to stand up and go over with a knowing smile on her face. Katsuki stands right next to Eijirou who looks at him like he’s the most precious thing he’s ever seen.

“Uhm… I fucking forgot what I was about to say but you know what, fuck it.” Eijirou mutters with tears in his eyes. Izuku looks mortified. “I feel like I have everything I wanted as a teen; I have a beautiful flat I’m sharing with my best friend, I have the greatest friends and the greatest job. But there is one thing I don’t have; a partner who I know will be with me until death pulls us apart.”

The whole gang goes silent. Izuku chokes on his drink again.

“The fuck are you…” Katsuki is about to yell at him, offended, but Kirishima stops him by putting his palm on his mouth.

“Katsuki. We’ve been living together for 7 years and while I know I’m being selfish right now but…” Eijirou GOES DOWN ON ONE FUCKING KNEE. “Can you promise me you’ll be my roommate forever?”

Mina cries like a baby while the rest of the gang gawks at the two bozos, completely dumbfounded. You have no idea how to react. Izuku.exe has stopped working completely next to you.

“Eijirou, what the actual fuck are you doing right now?!” Katsuki mumbles with a red face.

“I’m asking you to be my roommate forever? Is that weird? I thought it’s really manly…”

“Eijirou, you just went down and one knee and proposed to me. Look at Iida’s confused fucking face! Deku is having a stroke!” Katsuki yells at the puppy eyed redhead who looks so gobsmacked you kinda want to hug him.

“That wasn’t my intention, but like… I do have a ring too…”

“You have a what.”

Momo gaps dramatically in the background. You try your best not to laugh.

“A ring. A roomies forever ring.” Eijirou takes out a really expensive ring box from his pocket with a sad face. Katsuki is about to explode. So is Deku.

“Well, first of all, fuck you.” Katsuki yells at the poor guy again. “Because I also have a fucking ring. So now we have two.”

Well, that’s a fucking plotwist, innit?!

“What…?!”

“… And it’s not like I’m gonna get a fucking boyfriend or a girlfriend if I sleep in your fucking bed so we might as well just get fucking married.”

“OHMYFUCKINGGODIMHYPERVENTILLATINGIFUCKINGKNEWIT”

Uhm, that was Mina. You didn’t really understand a single world but she’s clearly fucking excited.

Katsuki fucking Bakugou gets down on one knee too. He takes out an even more expensive ring and he doesn’t even wait for Eijirou to get out of his stupor before he shoves the ring on Eijirou’s finger. “You are stuck with me now. For fucking ever just how you wanted. I hate you for doing this right in front of everyone by the way, I wanted to do this after everyone leaves.”

“Kats…”

This is when Izuku absolutely loses his shit. You can see it in his eyes.

Because the next moment, Eijirou jumps into Katsuki’s arms and kisses him on the lips right in front of everyone. And the kiss doesn’t look like it’s the first one they’ve ever shared.

You don’t have the heart to be giddy about being right because Izuku looks absolutely heartbroken by the sight.

“Let’s go home.” Izuku stands up abruptly. You try to pull him back on the sofa but he’s relentless.

“Don’t make a scene. I know you are mad, but don’t ruin this for them.”

Katsuki, being the perceptive guy he is, looks up at you two right away. He doesn’t need to say anything to Eijirou because just as he takes a look at you two he lets Katsuki go, probably knowing this conversation is a must.

“Izuku, come with me. You too.” Katsuki sighs while the others make their ways to congratulate Eijirou for staying alive after all the shit he just pulled.

You really want to congratulate the two and tell them you shipped them before they went official but seeing Izuku’s face right now, half a second from crying, you decide to just go after Katsuki, pulling the frozen greenhead after you. You two end up in the garden and Katsuki sits down on the bench with a frown on his face; he’s clearly trying his best to choose his words properly and not make the situation worse.

“Look, I’m sorry.” Katsuki murmurs with his hands deep in his hair, clearly just as frustrated as Izuku himself. “You know I’m not into the whole… love thing and this… this is new. Well, almost… ah fuck, this is so awkward.” He sighs. “5 years ago�� We… did some stuff. I was telling Eijirou about me not understanding what’s the big deal about kissing. I was twenty and still a virgin and I was just… fed up. And it escalated. Then we never talked about it ever again… until you called us, crying about how you don’t want to loose your Sweet Pea and then Eijirou told you the whole story and said he… he loves me and honestly, I was feeling the same or whatever so we… decided to… just be together and stop pretending that we are not… attracted to each other. Honestly, not a lot of things has changed since then, I used to sleep in his bed for years anyway. We were… a couple without even realizing it.”

“I didn’t even know you are gay, Katsuki.” Izuku mutters with tears in his eyes. You really want to hug him.

“Don’t fucking call me Katsuki! And it’s no one’s business! I haven’t told the hag either. I didn’t think I’ll ever be in a situation when it matters. Also, I don’t think I’m gay. I’ve never cared about anyone this way except for him. Never. I already said sorry so stop looking at me like I pulled Auntie Inko’s hair and be my best fucking man when this shit escalates.”

“Oh my god.” You mumble in a high pitched voice. Oh my god, this is happening. Oh my…

“Me?” Izuku freezes, for the third time today.

“What the fuck? Who the fuck else? You are my fucking nerdy, annoying brother from another mother, of course it needs to be you.”

Izuku cries a river. Literally. You decide to leave these two alone after seeing Deku moving into Katsuki’s personal space and hugging him, because even though you know the two don’t mind your presence when it comes to emotional stuff, hell, Katsuki literally opened up to you on the first day, but somehow, this felt so intimate you started to feel like an intruder.

You make your way back inside and Eijirou clocks you right away; he smiles from the other side of the room, his face so happy it makes your heart melt just from looking at him.

“Talk about surprises, right?” He scratches the back of his head self-deprecatingly.

“Don’t flatter yourself, I knew this the first moment I’ve met you two. I’ve been teasing Izu with it for ages.” You give him a cheeky grin back.

“Will he be okay?” The conversation is suddenly turning serious; Kirishima’s smile disappears for a second, worry etched all over his face as he waits for your answer. Katsuki not telling Izuku is one thing but Eijirou? You have no idea how the guy managed to keep this a secret for so long. It must have been terrible, Eijirou is all about gossip on a usual day and he wears his heart on his sleeves every single second.

“I’m not going to lie, he was really upset, but Katsuki just asked him to be his best man, and now he’s crying like a baby in his arms, so…”

For your surprise, Eijirou starts ugly crying just as you finish your sentence.

“That’s so manly, goddamnit!” It only takes him half a second to crush into you, suffocating you with his massive body, absolutely not bothered by your terrified yelp as you try to breathe and fail.

Well… today was full of surprises, that’s for sure, but you are so happy to be able to live such a wonderful and exciting life, a life full of surprises and love and oh fuck, how did you get so lucky?

It’s really hard not to start stressing about what comes next; life has been way too kind to you and everything is so perfect but… life can’t be this is easy, can it? Something must be on the way, something bad, something dark and menacing but you decide to hide this terrible thought under the hypothetical rug in your mind palace for now, knowing that whatever comes your way, if these people are still by your side, it can’t be that bad.

… this is what you thought back then. That it can’t be that bad… but life had other plans for you two.

The pink clouds shattered with the static of the TV, with the constant buzz of your phone. With Eijirou’s trembling voice, trying to stay strong for you.

You didn’t know there is a New Era coming your way, one that will probably be called a horrific name in the history books, something dramatic, something easy to remember, but terrible nonetheless.

Something like… the falling of the Number One.

Potato ramble:

- Mina was wearing an extremely short skirt and a tank top that barely hid anything. In case you wondered. She’s cool like that.

- Why did they remake Katsuki’s room into the gym and not the guest room? Because they literally came up with that idea after they officially got together so they knew that room won’t be used anymore. There is an extra I have half-written if you guys want to know the full story behind those two so please leave a comment if you want me to post it in the future!

- In the original script they didn’t actually engage in this chapter, or at least not in front of everyone. Katsuki was supposed to pull Eijirou into his room and yell at him about his “easy to misinterpret” actions but he would’ve said yes to the proposal anyway but play dumb through the whole night and deny it, making the whole gang confused about what the fuck is going on but then as you know, my characters have a mind of their own and this happened. I remember making a dramatic gasp when Katsuki pulled out another ring because I genuinely didn’t know that’s gonna happen lol should I see a doctor? I probably should. 😂

- While I have the next chapter written already it might be a bit late and the reason is that I want to have the next one ready so you guys don’t need to wait for longer than a week for it because uhm… it ends with a massive cliffhanger. So get tissues and book an appointment with your therapist if you have one. If not, find one. Or don’t read it until the next one is out. That’s probably cheaper. I’m sorry in advance. My bestie @porusuniverse already read the chapter and I’m quite sure she almost had a meltdown by the end of it. 😂😇

"My feelings on" part 5. How to get my husband on my side and how it properly tackles abuse, eating disorders, and relationships.

Another super popular manhwa that I can understand why it's so beloved. The Borgias were actual people in history that inspired characters like the protagonist Ruby, and the title itself already feels different since the world of OI is all about being a perfect badass woman, funnily enough, HTGMHOMS does this better than most.

Rudbeckia/Ruby starts off with the behavior of the og fls that a lot of OI make fun of. She is surrounded by what appears to be loving family members and is already being prepped to be married of to Izek, she looks excited and ready to do whatever her family wants until her inner monolog reveals how she really feels about them especially her older brother Cezar. She hates almost all of them and her real reason for being excited for marriage is so she can get away from her abusive household and avoid death which shouldn't be hard since the transmigrator doesn't plan on poisoning her sister in law like og Ruby did. She's a master of hiding her feelings already which is attributed to her past life in a similarly abusive adoptive household.

Right off bat, Ruby is shown to be strong in the mental sense. Not only is she walking on eggshells she also suffers from an ED (likely bulimia), there a quite a few scenes where she's throwing up, refusing to eat a lot, or in later chapters, eating a lot more out of stress. Her family too is whole new level of psychological horror. They aren't cartoonist evil, for example Pope Borgia is usually kind to his daughter and treats her with respect until he feels like she's defying him, all of a sudden that kind caring nature is gone, then he becomes threatening, or her older brother Cezar who has been abusing her for years both physically and sexually, he keeps her in place through fear, intimidation, and attacking her on occasion which is only enhanced after he kills Rubys bird and feeds it to his turtle which gives Ruby a phobia of turtles. It's actually heartbreaking with how eerily realistic it is when these types of people are easily placed like normal family members in certain scenes, because that's often how abusive family members blend in, almost no one knows what they are really like and if you looked at a first glance without context, you'd think "Ah yes, that's just a brother next to his siblings." They're never truly gone, they just know how to hide their true colors so well.

This is why Ruby is so much stronger than a lot of people give her credit for, she's dealing with all of this at the same time and her only hope of respite is being as far as possible from her home country. It's easy to jump to the conclusion that Ruby is just a weak stereotypical protagonist everytime you see her pretend to fawn over Izeks presence but if you read further, you'd know that Ruby doesn't like it any better but she thinks she's doing what's right to avoid Izeks Wrath since she's the only one who knows what he is the one who kills the og Ruby in the novel.

Speaking of which, while Izek isn't my favorite ML ever, I still was shocked to find that I liked the typical cold nobleman persona on him. Unlike a lot of ML's Izek is allowed to be flawed and his negative traits and moments aren't brushed aside, they cause some issues like Ruby going out of her way to appear dainty and sweet so Izek won't kill her. He acknowledges how he has hurt her and grows from it and doesn't push her boundaries. It's possible for the cold Duke archetype to work but a lot of the time, the whole war hero past gets thrown to the side for baseless fan service or they're just unapologetically abusive. Izek however is in the in between. His cold and dangerous persona stays consistent but that doesn't make him one note and he gets to have geninue moments of care for those in his life rendering Izek to still be likeable.

Ive noticed that the narrative also makes sense instead of twisting itself for a stupid chance at a fan service plot. An example is Ellen and Freya.

An unfortunate sideffects from the fandom was on and off hatred of Ellen for considering what Freya had to say, taking her side or not even choosing a side at all. The readers know that Freya tried to get Ruby killed by tricking her into going into a monster infested forest or when she tried to frame Ruby for poisoning her, but does Ellen know that? Realistically she's not going to immediately turn her back on Freya since they were childhood friends along eith Izek but that doesn't mean she screams at Ruby either. Ellen does care about Ruby but she knew Freya longer than she knew Ruby. From her perspective, it' makes sense that Freya would be innocent.

But perhaps the best part about Ellen that makes her my favorite character is how she notices the little details on others. She's the first to find out that Ruby has an eating disorder and it's not out of nowhere either, Ellen and Izeks late mother also suffered from a eating disorder that Ellen witnessed more than once so it gives an explanation on how she can tell what Ruby is going through.

Side characters are treated just as well as the main cast too. From the other guards to the friendly monsters to minor antagonist and even the children are all given attention to be their own beings, it doesn't have to be a lot since most of what I mentioned are minor characters but then you got characters like Ivan who has a life outside of just being by Izeks side.

Out of all the side characters I gotta say the monsters are my favorites. It makes me wish there was a side story where Ruby successfully runs away forever and lives as a little witch with monster companions.

Of course like all media, HTGMHOMS has its flaws but I think I'll chill on this one since the flaws aren't large enough to ruin it and I want to stay positive on something I like for once.

Conclusion: This is a story that does such an amazing job with its commentary. Instead of just saying "Cezar abused Ruby in the past! Feel bad for her now!" For example, we are given actual flashbacks to respect the show don't tell rule. Other characters besides Ruby suffer from their own traumas and they get their own arcs on their hardships and how they recover from it, it handles eating disorders and trauma responses in a respectful way that has an actual effect on the plot. Most of all, it does all of this with the type of protagonist that has been deemed as "weak" before in the manhwa community. Ruby isn't a boss girl who is always successful and smart. She makes reckless decisions, she cries, she isn't always able to one-up her enemies like Freya. She's a human woman stuck in a world that's not her own but she still rises to the task at hand even with all her blunders. Ironically making her more feminist then many of the female leads before her.

This is an actual ask about Mineta and among other things that I thought maybe some of you may be interested in reading, but because the font is in orange (due to Tumblr glitching out on Anon and their autism) I'm posting it like this. I'm not too bothered by the color, but I'm sure there are others who may find it unreadable. Now, you do not have to read it. No matter how you may feel about Mineta, BNHA, Horikoshi, a dog, a cat, ANYTHING or ANYONE... DO NOT BE DISRESPECTFUL. Please keep any of your comments that you know are rude to yourself. Horikoshi said once in some interview that mineta is essentially a self-insert. Coincidentally, early-mha horikoshi had some pretty pervy tendencies (much like mineta—probably why he thought it would be cool to have such a character never really face consequences). The most famous example of this is probably the girls hero costumes, most notably Yaoyorozu. He mentions in an aside very early on in the story (volume three or something?) that he can’t seem to help himself and her boob window always gets bigger every time he draws it. Then there’s uraraka saying she didn’t want such a tight costume, Hagakure being naked, etc. When the anime started airing there was another interview where he said he really appreciated them making uraraka curvier than in the manga, because he likes curvy women. One could also use midnight and mount lady as examples of this but I’d say it’s more of a way of discussing mature themes surrounding hero society and all of its consequences rather than actual sexualisation. Something that sets him apart, even at this early stage, from other shonen mangakas is that he doesn’t only do this to the women, but the men as well. If Yaoyorozus hero costume is revealing, what about kirishimas (this comparison is my favourite because they both need skin showing for their quirks to function well, so why is one considered bad and the other fine? Because one is a boy and one is a girl? Please keep in mind I am not trying to say that kirishima is sexualized. It’s just food for thought)? If urarakas suit is considered too tight, then look at all might. You could probably see the outline of his dick from fifteen yards away when he wears that costume. Then there’s mineta, who makes certain comments regarding the women in his class. But what about mount lady and how she treats shoto? Or one of the wild wild pussy cats asking the boys in class 1-A how old they are to see how long til she can marry them? Unlike basically every other shonen out there, the sexualisation (at least as far as I can tell) is not based in sexism. It’s across the board, and we only notice it more when it happens to women because we are used to it happening to women.

For a long time, I hated horikoshi for the same reasons I hated mineta (it was a love-hate relationship for obvious reasons). He was openly perverted and seemingly one of *those* guys. You know, the ones I’d be afraid to walk near after dark. Or before dark. But I still loved mha and really appreciated what he was doing within the story. As a side note, he writes the women very well, which is rare in shonen (again—love hate relationship with dear old horikoshi). But if you’ll notice, the farther along in the story you look, the less sexualisation there is. It’s gradual so you hardly notice, but compare volume four or five to volume thirty. The difference is stark. It’s not really that mineta has less lines (although since the war started that has been the case) he still talks, just differently.

I think what happened is, when mha started getting popular, horikoshi started seeing huge pushback to minetas character, which probably all came to a head when the anime made him say something super fucked up to eri. I don’t recall if it was in dub or sub or both, but reading back through the manga it’s a bit different and honestly could’ve been poor translation or my own misinterpretation. But in the anime it was clear what he meant. He can’t wait for eri to be older, for exactly the reason you’re thinking now. The process of horikoshi realizing his mistakes started long before this, though, and gradually you can watch him patch up the holes if you pay attention. The anime does a poor job of this, at least until season six. But around the time that season four ends (and this is present in the manga too) there is a scene of Mina tying mineta to a chair and forcing him to watch something. After that, the sexualisation in the manga is gone for good. I’d like to interpret this as horikoshi finalizing his realization and own personal character development. He is no longer pervy, just like mineta is no longer pervy.

The one exception to this rule is that infamous chapter cover. The one with Hagakure on the front? Yeah, when I saw that, it made me rethink all of this. For about two weeks I was convinced that I’d been wrong about it, and he really is just a pervert after all. But lo and behold, he said in an interview that he was running behind and didn’t have time to draw or pick a chapter cover. He handed a bunch of old concept art to one of the higher ups and told them to pick something. He said he was never expecting that drawing to see the light of day, and he figured they’d choose something a little more suited to the story. (A little fucked up that he drew that? Yes, I think so. But keep in mind, these are *old* drawings. People are allowed to change and, following this metric, I think horikoshi has changed quite a bit.)

All of this is to say, mineta is not really a bad person anymore, and also has incredible writing (whether it was purposeful from the beginning or a last minute change) which just goes to show how talented horikoshi really is.

Myra Castelli, one of the eldest daughters of the Moulton family. Daughter of Lauren & David Moulton, she has always been a second mom to her youngest siblings and takes pride in it. Myra grew up in middle class her mother being a best-selling author & father owning his own construction company she felt the need to set an example for her youngest siblings. Always longing for a family of her own she often fell into the wrong guys, but soon shocked her family when she told them she met a guy and they were getting married in the next month, she was super confident about it and being 26 at the time who could tell her anything? When her family asked would he be coming to meet them she simply responded that he's super shy and he'll be coming soon to meet them. Myra always did so well in school, always at the top of her class & it was no shock when she graduated with an honors diploma, she then went to go teach highschoolers biology but soon quit after she met her new husband but why? that's a question we would all like to know including her family. Soon after the wedding which happened in a private setting according to Myra, she set sail to her honeymoon where she told her family she would be visiting puerto rico & she was so excited to finally see where her mother's side of the family has come from. After this she announced to the family, she would be moving to puerto rico and her new husband is so on board, and she would be visiting soon. The Moulton's didn't see her for over a year until she came back with a pregnant belly & her new husband who came to visit the whole family, weird but the Moulton's are a welcoming family, so they let it go. Myra is pregnant with her first child & is five months, she's very excited to finally meet her niece Chaya & have playdates with their daughters. With her nerves to the sky, Myra finds herself nervous to be questioned by one of her siblings especially her younger sister Leya who can get anything out of her, or would she ask how they were able to afford the most expensive penthouse in the district?

Julien Castelli, some would describe him as a jack of all trades, others would not describe him at all and even run away to the sound of his name. Who is this man? that's something we would all like to know. A Casanova known to spend lots of money on beautiful women, has finally settled down & a new member to their little family on the way. Safe to say the women were in shambles finding out that Julien was off the market, so he says... but can be seen quite often in "meetings" with different people, the topic of said meetings are not known. There's not much to say about Julien because he is very secretive, but after some digging from Leya & Priscilla (his sister in laws) & possibly a drunk conversation between him and Zane (Myra's little brother) Julien is a leader of well know and notorious gang called La Cosa Simstra. Who are well known for illegal activities among the streets the police are suspicious of them and built a case for about 5 years but soon closed it because no evidence was found and there was no proof of these "activities", but the recent return of Julien Castelli has made the crime rate go up which might open that case back up. Now is this the reason why Julien left to Puerto rico for a year with Myra? we will never know. What we do know is Julien was raised very good and into a wealthy family. His father used to run the gang back in the day before he passed away in a shooting, the shooters were never found & this may or may not have made Julien the man he is today. Julien is not all bad though, he helps a lot in the community gets rid of who he needs to & runs things his way. A prime example of this is when magically Myra's youngest brother got into one of the biggest record label in San myshuno after denying him. Now we can't stop hearing Zane's music on the radio. I guess a few good deeds cancels out the bad right?

AAAAAA tysm Grace!!!! Though I am so so so sorry for how rambly and long this post is gonna be, but you just asked me abt one of my brainrots!! I will answer your question but also talk about my history alignments and AUs in general LOL

But if I'm making comparisons of F1 drivers and historical figures, my brain kinda forces me to make it an AU because I'm like "this needs to make absolute sense historically and contextually.)

So, tbh of the four historical AUs that float around my brain, only two of them are really specifically about certain historical figures. The four are: Nandopoleon(About how Fernando reminds me of Napoleon), War of Spanish Succession(mostly about that era, but Seb and Nando are supposed to be paralleling Charles VI and Philip V), Napoleonic Hussars(which is about how , in general, Hussars = F1 drivers), and Rennaissance Muse(this just happens to take place in a different era.)

Explaining my AUs and the historical contexts(proceed with caution, its a lot)

Nandopoleon:

Okay so I'm really really am so deranged about Napoleon = Fernando, but I’ve not posted about it too much because I wanna make a well thought out post about it. But basically I think they’re similar people with similar characteristics and motivations. There was this period of time over the summer where I was only brain rotting about how well any of Napoleon’s quotes fit Fernando(with my fellow nandopoleon confidant @/sweatyflytrap haha.) Here’s some quotes as example: 

“Victory belongs to the most persevering.”

“It is not necessary to bury the truth. It is sufficient merely to delay it until no one cares.”(Piasco era lol)

“Victory is not always winning the battle…but rising every time you fall.”

“From triumph to failure is only one step.”

"A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon."(trophies y'know)

"Always carry champagne! In victory you deserve it, and in defeat you need it!"

Tell me Fernando wouldn't use these as instagram captions! TELL ME!!! But the other thing that was driving me crazy is how well excerpts from the personality/image section of Napoleone's wiki line up with testimonials from Fernando's doc. Examples:

"He cheated at cards, but repaid the losses; he had to win at everything he attempted."(Napoleon) "Whatever activity I take part in, I have this compulsion to find the compeititon in it."(Fernando)

"He could rapidly dictate a series of complex commands to his subordinates, keeping in mind where major units were expected to be at each future point, and like a chess master, 'seeing' the best plays moves ahead"(Napoleon) "When you talk to him, his mental capacity is so strong. He's talking to you, but his brain is thinking ahead"(Fernando)

Like c'mon tell me they aren't at least a bit similar??? There's a lot else I find similar about them but I cannot list my whole manifesto here skdjlsd

Anyways this AU would be Fernando as Napoleon and would be Webbonso -> Strollonso. Basically, Napoleon had two wives: his first wife, who was older than him and who he was super in love with, but had to divorce because they couldn't have kids, but he still loved her deeply. And then his second wife , who was much younger thanhim and from the Austrian royal family, and this was a politically motivated marriage but they still got on pretty well!!(also it's funny, before she married him she didn't want to be with him because the public perception of him made him out to be not the best guy, but then she wrote to her father about how loving and kind he was. very Strollonso, no?)

War of Spanish Succession:

Mostly explained it here and here. I'm not too interested in either Philip V nor Charles VI themselevs as individuals, but rather the roles they fufill in the "story." Though I will say, I got hit with a brick while reading Charles VI's wiki when finding out that he apparently had several male lovers! So I guess my AU having an arranged m/m marriage isn't even that far off the mark hahaha. Why did they have a 13 year war, they should have just arranged a marriage between the two canidates sigh sigh. But yeah, mostly Austria vs. Spain, I think it fits well with the Vettonso rivalry!! They would end up being: Fernando I King of Spain and Sebastian I Holy Roman Emperor hehe. Also I sketched some more:

Napoleonic Hussars:

Explained here as well as with art, and more art here. I'm really still proud of the points I made, I just feel very ardently about it!!! Not about any specific figure, but rather a historical group that I think lines up extremely well with F1 drivers. But this one is fun cause I can kinda insert any driver into it and they'll work pretty well. It's fun to figure out what kingdom what driver would be, either based off their nationality or the nationality of their team. I remember vividly staring at a map from this era trying to figure out where Maranello would be....But like Renault = Kingdom of France and RBR = Kingdom of Austria, and stuff like that

Rennaisance Muse:

Mostly just this post, I've not thought about this one incredibly deeply. Mostly just brainrot about how I think Seb looks like The David with his curly hair

Arsenic and Cyanide are bitter exes/the old, bickering married parents of five/some secret third thing, Arsenic is the wine mom and Cyanide has lowkey Odalia vibes

Arsenic (he/him) is very prim and proper and polished, considers himself basically like nobility since he's been around the longest (he first "woke up" in the 400s BCE.) but still bends to Cyanide's will a lot

Cyanide (she/they) is very no-nonsense, strategic, and determined to keep control over everyone else (she's thrown through a loop when TTX leaves, more on that in a minute)

Foxglove (she/her) is like. cute lil girlie who will give you tea. and that tea has a ridiculous amount of deadly poisonous shit in it. she has a pet fox named Whiskers

Anthrax (they/he/it) is probably a cult leader and also works part-time as a postal delivery service guy. he's chill but also not chill, because, y'know, cult leader.

Botolinum (she/her) is literally just there. kinda suffering. absolute girlfailure we love her

Tetrodotoxin (AKA TTX/Mika, they/it) has had enough of the "family business" so it straight-up just runs away and gets a boyfriend and actually the main plot is everyone (mainly Polonium-210, Foxglove, and Arsenic) dealing with the repercussions of that

and last but certainly not least is Polonium-210 (she/they). she's the youngest (she's only been around since like. 2005 whereas almost everyone else is at almost a century old) but is also like. very threatening to everyone else because of how deadly their poison is (literally if you breathe in dust particles of Po-210 YOU WILL DIE.) and because she's super easy to anger and snaps at everyone. I love her because her character development is AWESOME

additional little "headcanons" abt them (though. does it count if they're OCs ?)

most of them are multilingual, for example Mika speaks Japanese as well as English and Anthrax and Polonium-210 know Russian

Arsenic is actually green-coded rather than the red color scheme he has in the speedpaint

he also loves old music ! often you'll hear him humming something under his breath and 90% of the time it's either The Smiths or some ancient Roman tune

he's ALSO a really good painter. he and Foxglove paint together a lot, father-daughter bonding 'n' all that

What are your headcanons of Jumin having a significant other that’s from Daegu ?

Okay, I made sure to do some research, but I'm definitely not an expert, so do let me know if I make some mistakes. With that being said, Daegu is one of the largest cities of South Korea!

For Jumin, it doesn't really matter from where exactly you come from. He's enamoured by you as a person and your inner world, plus with everything going on around you two as his father keeps on trying to marry off his own son, the topic of your hometown never really properly came up until the events of the party. But, of course, once the peace has been successfully restored, he's more than happy to learn everything that you're willing to share about your life.

Jumin's intrigued when he finds out that you're from Daegu. His business trips allowed him to travel not just around the world, but throughout the South Korea as well. Still, it's one thing to visit a city for business and completely another to do it for pleasure. If your hometown holds a special place within your heart, he'll definitely become really fascinated with the idea of seeing this place from your point of view.

So, it's fair to say that a vacation is pretty much mandatory. Jumin's going to let you take the reins for the entirety of this trip, completely trusting your decisions and feeling open to new experiences. As long as you're by his side, he knows that it's going to be enjoyable no matter what you two do. Just seeing the excited twinkle in your eyes as you see your beloved hometown coming into view is enough to put a smile on his face as he gently squeezes your hand in his own.

If you're on good terms with your family, Jumin will definitely ask you to meet them. He'll be respectful and as charming as can be, so you don't even have to worry about first impressions when it comes to him. Your loved ones will be smitten with him, especially so after seeing just how happy he makes you. This trip might even transform into a family vacation if none of you would feel uncomfortable with that!

From visiting the Suseong Lake with its colorful views, various workshops and a skating rink for you two to enjoy to numerous small crooks and crannies you know personally - you'll explore it all. he doesn’t like it at first, but he gets used to the traits of [redacted creature] that his body gains, he starts to like it. he feels stronger and more "himself." the traits his body gained include scale-like growths along his forearms, claws, a tail, improved sight, and sharper teeth.

he learns how to shapeshift these traits, too. he gets good at making himself stronger or prettier with them however he wants wjldsflk

oh man. i've never thought about what the music in my post-apoc setting is like.. i'm just gonna go with modern music for now. he'd enjoy indie stuff..? maybe?

throwing a few songs out here that i could see him listening to: "the physical attractions" by the symposium, "i think i left the stove on" by hotel ugly, and "drive away" by the brummies/kacey musgraves. he's not used to super loud/energetic music, but he doesn't like music that's purely instrumental/too calm, either. he associates it with bad memories from growing up with that kind of music.

adonis does okay. he might slack off in class or procrastinate his work, but at the end of the day, he gets it together well enough to pass. he might cheat during a test or two.

he's not big on marriage. growing up, adonis was always told that he would be married off to someone from another noble house. that never happened, fortunately, but he still dislikes the idea of being tied to another person.

oh absolutely. her motifs are bones (death), the trefoil symbol (dark magic/radiation), the color green (associated w/ dark magic in my setting, also nature since she becomes a ranger, too). also mourning doves (associated with resilience in grief. also bc her last name is macroura).

7. what is the thing your oc likes most about themselves?

she loves that she's basically born to use dark magic (elven ability to use it + human resistance that elves lack). most half-elves don't inherit both those traits at once, which makes her very unique.

it really amuses her when she thinks about it. it makes her feel like she's doing "what she was meant for" when she studies dark magic.

10. what kind of music do they enjoy?

again, going to go for a modern music since idk anything about music in my world (rip).. she would definitely listen to mitski and lord huron. yes i am projecting this on her. but it fits her

12. how well does your oc do in school?

very well! if you put her, adonis, lorne, and cordelia in a classroom together, ivy would come out on top (though cordelia would be close). she performs especially well in science and history classes.

24. how does your oc handle the death of someone they know?

depends on the circumstances. if someone was sick for a long time, ivy will be accepting of it when it happens. she'll try to help everyone else feel better.

but if the death is unexpected, violent, or she's right there (or all three), ivy will lose herself in anger. if someone murdered her father in front of her, for example, then she would immediately try to kill the murderer using any means possible (such as acts of dark magic that she would normally be horrified to even consider using. spell of hemorrhage your lungs, etc.)

Elven Wedding Headcanons Part 2

the last post was more about the technical parts of getting married, this post is more focused on the ceremony. disclaimer: i am a white christian who has only been to white christian weddings but this is how i imagine elven weddings would look.

they’re a LOT

brides don’t typically wear white

and grooms in black

they wear whatever colors they want (although most couples tend to stay away from green)

the biggest tradition is wearing the family circlets during the ceremony and reception

they’re passed down through the family

i guess it's not necessarily down

but through the family

it’s also equally common to have a wedding party versus not

most couples choose one person each to help them through everything

but they’re not always a part of the wedding then

some couples choose to have a large wedding party

it really depends on the couple

grady and edaline didn’t have a wedding party but they chose kesler and juline to help them through the big day

but alden and della had a large wedding party

and neither is unheard of

elven newlyweds are typically granted one to two weeks off work

because you can go anywhere anytime

with a leaping crystal or teleporting

but elves don’t usually take time off from their jobs seeing as how they have infinite lifespans and infinite money

it does kind of raise the questions of “why would the elves go on vacation?”

1 Corinthians 5-8

Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm China. Today is the 30th day of November, welcome. Well, here we are, you guys. We are at the very end of the month of November. It is insane. Past has gone by, but here we are, and we have one more month left together reading the Bible chronologically. And whether this is your first year or I don't even know, multiple years of reading the Bible just straight through or chronologically, I hope you feel so one, like, accomplished, because I truly do think that reading the Bible should be something that Christians and Christ followers are doing frequently and daily, as it is our daily bread. And I know sometimes too, that doesn't always happen. But whether you've been here every single day or you've played catch up or you skipped to catch up, you're here. And the Lord is faithful and he's good and he's kind. And so, yeah, I hope that you are having a good week and that you are really truly feeling the hope of Jesus and the hope of our Savior and just hopeful about whatever is going on in your life. Any situations that are feeling without hope may today just be a turning point and say, you know what? Maybe these past few days haven't been very hopeful or I've forgotten to put my attention there. This week isn't over. We are still in the week of hope. And so may you just really center your eyes there. So today we are continuing on in the book of 1st Corinthians, chapter five through eight, continuing on with the Voice Translation.

Commentary

Sometimes I have a hard time with Paul's scriptures, and maybe if I actually understood who he was and knew him, I would be able to have a better understanding for sure. But some things that he says are just so dang black and white that I'm like, interesting, interesting perspective. You know, like the whole singleness thing, I just feel like that's super black and white. It's like, either get married and you're like, yeah, you're blessed, but be single and you are super Megablessed. It's like what? Wait, I'm out. I hear what you're saying. I hear the point that you're making, but it's something where you're like, be like me. And I'm like, okay, we're having another John situation here, aren't we? The one whom Jesus loved? But I definitely hear what he's saying. I think people have, I'm sure, better thoughts and formulated opinions than I do about all, and I don't really have a problem with him. I think sometimes he's so black and white that it's like, okay, can I introduce you to some color? Which I'm sure is how people in my life feel about me. My brain is very black and white as well, but in this circumstance of talking about sexual morality, I do think that it's good what he's saying. I know that traditional viewpoints are not popular anymore now. Like, where we have people confused about what gender they are and trying to claim that there's just an attack from the enemy on our identity and who we are made in the image of God, right? And so we see this in so many different areas where an example is like an attack truly on identity. So much so that you could claim to be a different gender than when you were born or that you are without gender and that's just not how God created it. And I'm doing exactly what Paul said. I'm not going to do you a disservice and not tell you the truth. This is the truth and I'm telling it to you in love. And so we see that attack, we see the attack on family with I saw something years ago that said the enemy will try to drive a couple together so much before they get married and then try to drag them apart once they are married. And I was like, yeah, I can definitely see that for sure. And so I do think in the church we need people talking more about this topic. It's uncomfortable. And really there's only one person that I can think of off the top of my head that her and her husband have a podcast and they have done some really great work and honest conversations about talking about topics that no one really wants to talk about because they're uncomfortable and like, will I have vulnerability hangover after this? Or does this protect me or people are going to think less of me afterwards, just different things like that. And I get it, I understand. And at the same time, keeping things in the dark continues to keep things in the dark and it actually is just an invitation for other people to keep in the dark too. So I do think that there's a lot of value in what he's saying. But when I was talking about traditional values where it's like the man is the head of the home and the wife is his partner and is submitting to him. There's a war on that right now even where there's this kind of like awakening where the woman should be strong, independent woman. And that resonates with me because I'm strong, I'm very independent, but I also know my place biblically and I know my place in the role of a household and the role of family and what God has orchestrated. And so I can still be strong, I can still have my independence, but when it's outside of what God has ordained, I'm actually out of the line and not allowing my husband to live in the identity that God has called and created him to as well. And so I will say that. And so I'm kind of leading into what I feel like may rub people the wrong way about what Paul says about sex and about intimacy, where it's like your body doesn't belong to you and your spouse's body doesn't belong to them and basically like any time they ask like you should be able to have it. I think the point that he is trying to make here is if you are going to deny it, it's better to give because there could be temptation outside of being like no. And so I think that could be a tricky slope because it's like, wait, time out. You're saying that if I say no to my spouse like they're going to go and look for other places? They shouldn't right?. But also I don't know, I don't want to say like an X amount of time because I don't feel like that's my space. But I don't also think if this is what Paul is trying to say, then I don't agree with it. But every time your spouse is in the mood, I don't think you have to say yes. I just don't think that that's real. I think consent is still real in marriage and even just being super vulnerable, even during if you're like, hey, I'm just not feeling like you should be able to say that and there has to be respect for it. And all my postpartum mom said amen, that is real and that makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry but there are some things that just don't get talked about in the Capital C churc. And I'm not going to air out all of my things either just because it's like if you have questions we can chat, but also like that it is a huge vulnerability thing. But anyways, all this to say, I hear where Paul is coming from, I think what he's saying is rooted in goodness and sometimes his delivery is a little too intense for me and I feel like I'm intense, I'm black and white. But he does say like, hey, it's kind of like a disclaimer on his end. I do believe that I'm hearing from the Lord in this. And so yeah, maybe we don't only know that's a big deal to claim Christ behind what you're saying. And so I don't think that he would be someone who would abuse it. I really believe that he his heart is good and true.

Prayer

So Lord, I just thank you for your word today. I thank you for the insights and the wisdom that you gave Paul and ultimately God, I thank you that his heart was that people would be well and that people would seek you and put you first. And God, really, anything can be made into idols in modern day. Like, you know it, you see it. Family can become idolized, a marriage can become idolized, our children can be idolized or our job positions. Really anything that we are putting before you is misplaced. And so, God, I pray that there would just be a level of humility in our hearts and recognize that from you are all things. And so we want to give to you all things. And so just understanding that we should hold things in a place of surrender and gosh, how tricky that is as you're showing me that. But God, I pray that we'd be people who are just aware of the things of your kingdom and just be aware that when we are kingdom minded there is a kingdom of darkness who ultimately wants after us too. And so we just see the areas of where the enemy has tried to come in, where he's trying to attack on family and marriage and even intimacy. And I just thank you that you set people's words and actions in motion long ago that would transcend all the way till now that would still have a rippling effect of holiness and just wholeness. And so God, I pray that if we are married or if we are single that we would seek you first, that we would ask you do you have marriage for me? And God, I thank you that you give us the desires of our hearts. You place the desires in our hearts and then you fulfill the desires in our hearts. And so I pray that we would seek you out, that we would truly be in dependence with you, God, that we would depend on you for the questions to ask and the answers to fulfill them. And yeah, I just thank you for the people who are married in this community. God bless their marriage and their unity. I speak hope and love and joy and peace and patience, gentleness, kindness and faithfulness and selfcontrol. And God, I just pray that your peace would fill each and every single home, that you have the ability to give that much peace, that much love. And God, that you would steward relationships well, that you would cultivate them well, that communication would be pure and pure and the Holy Spirit would stand guard over each and every single mouth in homes. And yeah, I thank you God, that it's not too late to have these moments kindled in marriages. And God, I just pray over the singles that they would truly desire you first. God, you know, you know that I did not wait patiently, that I did not wait perfectly, but that I waited upon you and I really sought you out. And so I just pray that people would understand that that's the most important thing, most important thing is not to be married and to have children, although that's what you've created us for. And so I believe that your answer would be yes, if that's what we desire. But God, I pray that that wouldn't be what our heart is so set on that we are missing the things of you and that we aren't even consulting you or praying or asking you. And so I pray that you would be the center of it all and it's in your name we pray, amen.

Community Prayer Line

Hi DAB DABC family. This is one beloved daughter. I am calling on behalf of a friend who lives in Cape Down, South Africa. Her name happens to be Jasmine Thompson. No relation, of course, but we've been friends for years online here. And she is a Christian, but she's very, very poor normally has no place to go, no heat, no in the winter, it's not cool in the summer, no place to go, no food. Lost her mother a few years ago, has her son, who they have a great relationship normally, but now he has a girlfriend. They have a baby. And the girlfriend now has kind of turned her son against her because I don't know what the problem is with the girlfriend, but she is against Joseline Jazz. Other siblings aren't nice to her, so she doesn't have really any love in her in her life. She just she has this very sorrowful life. She's crying all the time. She's very, very sad. But she has so much strong faith in the Lord. Never complains. I mean, I'm just in awe of her faithfulness to the Lord. And she cannot connect to apps like DAB and so forth. And so I just ask you to please, please pray for her. Pray for her to be able to connect to DAB and resources and send people in her life to show her the love of Jesus so she's not alone and sitting just only over there in her suffering. My time is up, but please pray for everything the Lord will lead you to. Thank you so much. I love you.

Good Afternoon Daily Audio Bible Community this is Diane Allison, and Jeff Brown calling on Thanksgiving Day, November 24. And I'm calling to respond to Brian from London. And this is just a prayer request. And what I wanted to say was I just love Daily Audio Bible. I love you. And I'm answering on chronological what Jill was speaking about in the Book of Galatians, the first three chapters. I love, love, love the Book of Galatians. And here's my favorite verse in the Book of Galatians. I have been crucified with Christ. Nevertheless I live. Yet it is not I who live, it is Christ who lives within me and the life that I now live in the flesh. I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. And I want you all to know that I pray for everybody, but I only respond to one person usually each day. And I want to respond to Daniel from the United Kingdom. You have a deep voice and you pray. The prayer I got from the Lord in the last few months asking, you shall receive, seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you. And it is Pat. My friend gave me that and I was crying. I called her and I was crying. I don't know how, I don't know how. She said yes. You do. She said, just take scriptures. The Lord gives you and meditate on them.

Hi, DABC family, this is God's child. I just finished listening to the recording reporting on the 24th and I was so encouraged by Diana from Indiana's prayer for those battling with mental illness. I personally deal with a lot of anxiety and I was so encouraged by her prayer, so I just wanted to pray alongside with her. Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for my dear sister, thank you that you placed this prayer that she prayed for those dealing with mental illness, but I just want to pray alongside with her. I pray that you would touch any and everyone in this ministry and this platform dealing with the sickness or any emotional instability. Lord, I personally deal with worry and fear. And Lord, I just ask that she would touch our hearts and our minds, and that you would bring healing on Lord Jesus, and that you will cast out every fear and every anxiety for God. The word says that you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and a sound mind. And Lord, I just claimed this in my life. And also I pray also for anyone dealing with anxiety or depression. I thank you, Lord Jesus, for hearing my prayer. And the prayer is owed.

8/23/24: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's characters from my anthro WWII storyline are: Unnamed City Clerk; Herr Heinrich (no last name ever given); Frau Bartz (no first name ever given); and Private Etienne Laurent. So many this week as the first two are completely new characters who popped up as I was writing the Tumblr entry for Frieda Orchudesch and her father (last week), yet I wanted to still check a couple off my list. The clerk and Heinrich, the Orchudesches' manservant, help Josef Diamant start his career as document forger. Frau Bartz is in charge of a maternity home and is always trying to coax Lt. Hesse into settling down with one of the women. And Laurent is an older undeveloped character from my character list, a French partisan whose background I need to develop some. The clerk and Heinrich are already described in Frieda's Tumblr entry. There'll be more about them all later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.

Regarding their designs: The clerk is a leucistic doberman; Heinrich is a fawn boxer; and Frau Bartz is a blue doberman (I'm iffy on her hair, she's supposed to look more severe). I wanted to try something different with Laurent's colors.

Frau Bartz is unimportant enough as a character that she only recently acquired a surname, doesn't really need it, but she pops up repeatedly as comic relief so I figured the other characters need a way to refer to her. She's informally(?) in charge of the Lebensborn maternity home where SS wives and unwed mothers of suitable Aryan extraction go to bear their children and put them up for adoption; I say "informal," as she does not appear to be an SS auxiliary, she apparently bears no feminine rank or title such as Helferin. I could be wrong, but anyway. She oversees the place, makes sure the women get excerise and decent meals and care, offers morale boosts, deals with visiting SS officials (the Allgemeine-SS controls the Lebensborn program), all that. And oh, yes, she's CONSTANTLY trying to convince prime SS males to either choose a nice pregnant bride from among the single mothers-to-be, or else just offer their...ahm...masculine services to the OTHER branch of the Lebensborn program to help boost the birthrate. Either one will do. For the glory of the Reich! Sieg Heil! Etc. etc.

Lt. Gunter Hesse, an investigator with the Sicherheitsdienst, is suitably low key, non-flashy, stable, respectable, and of course, super-Aryan enough that he's the primary target of Frau Bartz's attention. He and his associates--mainly Lt. Paul Wozniak and sometimes Master Sgt. Theodor Schulte--occasionally visit the maternity home for inspections and whatnot, and every time, Frau Bartz wheedles at Hesse constantly, showing off the lovely Aryan moms (they find Hesse to be a decent catch and so always play along, lining up, smiling seductively, batting their eyes and giggling) and suggesting he pick one, here's a nice one, this one has a pretty face, oh is it a large family he hopes for?--look at the hips on this one!--this one is nice and strong and suited for country work, oh does he wish to remain in the city?--well look at this comely, petite, feminine example, she'll make him look good, or how about this one, she's nice and obedient, or would he be interested in someone just a bit more feisty?--well here's this one, and they're all certified as sufficiently Aryan by the SS itself, no less, so you know what that means!--pure-blooded babies!...Hesse, who already has a mistress and really is NOT interested at the moment in settling down with a pregnant wife, always dreads his visits to the maternity home for this reason, and rebuffs Frau Bartz's constant coaxing. It doesn't matter much, though; if he brings up that he's not looking to get married, Frau Bartz just changes her tune--well that's fine, just fine!--there are other ways to contribute to the Reich!--has he considered entering the Lebensborn program himself?...see, they could always use an excellent example of Aryan masculinity such as himself, surely there's a lot he can contribute, just show up and let some lovely young lady pick him and he can contribute to the glory of the Fatherland all night long, yes?--hmm?--this side of Lebensborn has always rather squicked Hesse out, so of course he always tries everything he can to get away from Frau Bartz's wheedling. He can never get out of her company fast enough, yet she remains undeterred in her efforts.

It's hinted that Frau Bartz may have a crush on Hesse herself, despite their age difference--Hesse, in his forties, is rather older than most SS men involved in the program, yet this makes him appealing as it's assumed he has experience, whereas Frau Bartz is probably in her fifties--at one point she coyly mentions how if she were younger and of childbearing age, she might pursue him herself. Hesse of course hastens to think of ways to put her off without offending her, though she finds his prudence attractive as well; there's just no winning with her.

Kind of ironically, Frau Bartz's persistent efforts to find mates for her girls do work toward winning over one officer--just not Hesse. Lt. Wozniak, after helping rescue the pregnant Karolin Bathelt from being pinned under the rubble following a bombing attempt at the home, assists in delivering her baby; he later asks her to marry him. Ironic--as Wozniak is not only NOT suitably Aryan (he's actually Polish), he's also gay. Definitely NOT premium SS husband material, as Frau Bartz would see it. Yet he offers Karolin an out that could benefit her, her son, and himself: They can pose as a family, thus not only preserving her reputation and saving her from having to put her son up for adoption, but helping to keep his own secret as well. Karolin is reluctant at first--she's bought in to the Reich's ideas about the degenerate homosexuals--but is desperate enough to keep her baby that she goes along with it. Despite their utter lack of physical compatibility, Wozniak ends up being an excellent and devoted husband and father. So, Frau Bartz does get ONE of her single mothers married off, just not to the guy she would have preferred, and not for the reasons she would have expected.

Frau Bartz's character and physical appearance take a lot of inspiration from Gertrud Scholtz-Klink, and also from this particular photo, try not to laugh (I don't believe this is her, though I came across this image years ago and when I learned about Scholtz-Klink, this quickly came to mind--Google her and you can find similar images of her inspecting scantily clad, athletic women). You can see I styled her hair after Scholtz-Klink's, though wasn't entirely successful, I didn't want the bangs to stick out so much, I wanted her hair pulled more tightly to her head in a more severe appearance. Should I ever figure out how to draw that properly, her hairstyle may change.

Frau Bartz is just a sort of running gag character who isn't meant to be developed much, and I really don't know what becomes of her at/after story's end. Maybe she'll end up like Sigrid Richter and develop some further surprise plot, though likely not.

Books On Film: Donkey Skin (1970)

Here is a movie that I didn't know existed, which was based on a fairy tale that I didn't know existed. I was curious about this movie because it starred Catherine Deneuve (famed as one of the most beautiful women in the world), because it was a musical, and because the plot sounded absolutely BONKERS.

But I really had no idea just how weird this story would get.

Are you ready to take a long strange journey through a super-strange fairy tale? Okay, let's go!!!!!

So, once upon a time, there was a king and a queen who had a daughter. They also had a donkey who provided them with gold and jewels on a regular basis by ... uhmmm ... excreting them. Just go along with this fairy tale logic, okay?

So, the beautiful queen gets a mysterious illness. While she's on her deathbed, she makes her husband promise that when he marries again (because, you know, male heirs are important), that HE WILL ONLY MARRY SOMEONE AS BEAUTIFUL AS HER.

Do you see where this is going? No? Well, count yourself lucky. Because things are going to get weird. I'll give you a hint: Catherine Deneuve plays both the princess and her mother the queen. Hmmm.

The king is sad that his beautiful wife is dead. He's so depressed that he basically shuns his daughter while they're at the queen's grave:

Okay, so first things first. Yes, I agree that saying "I never wish to see you again" after the poor girl's mother has just died is pretty terrible. But now let's move on to the next topic ... I've heard of glass coffins, but why does THIS one look like a giant Pop-o-matic bubble?

Dear Reader, I have no frigging idea.

I will say, though, that this is just one example of the time and attention that was put into the visual style of this movie. The costumes, the props, and the sets are all pretty amazing. Sometimes they're amazingly bizarre, but they're amazing nonetheless.

Anyway, the king's advisors tell him that he has to marry and produce a male heir. But the king made that promise to his dying wife, so he's looking at all the portraits of all the eligible royalty, and none of them are beautiful enough, except --

OH NO. TELL ME THIS ISN'T HAPPENING --

Ohhhhhhhh boy.

Honestly, "I love you, my daughter, and wish to marry you" is NEVER what you want to hear. His lovely daughter is super-duper upset and confused, and she runs off to see her godmother the Lilac Fairy, who sums things up this way:

"Children do not marry their parents, my child."

Well, I mean ... YES, OBVIOUSLY. It's kind of one of those things that you shouldn't have to say! But anyway, we're in a fairy tale, so here we are.

So, the princess' godmother tells her to stall. She's supposed to come up with more and more outrageous and impossible demands, like I want a dress the color of the weather or I want a dress the color of the sun or I want the skin of that magical donkey of yours.

Meanwhile, the king is getting impatient. But he keeps his eyes on the prize ... the prize being marriage with his daughter, as you may remember.

*shudder*

Okay, so in one of the many conversations between the princess and her father, he says:

"And then you'll marry me?"

Okay, but what part of this is blowing your mind more right now ... that the king wants to marry his daughter (which is SUPER GROSS) or that his throne is ... a gigantic stuffed cat (which is SUPER BIZARRE BUT ALSO SUPER AMAZING)???

I mean, I TOLD you this was going to get weird, right?

Okay, so under the advice of her godmother, the beautiful princess disguises herself in the donkey skin and lives incognito in a faraway land. No one there sees her true beauty, although there is a handsome prince who sees things that most people don't, like this weird rose that talks to him about finding love ...

OMG. What. Is. Happening.

Seriously, if this was any other movie, a talking rose with a human eye in the middle of it would be the strangest thing you'd see. But in this movie, there's some tough competition in that department.

Anyway, I misspoke earlier. HERE'S where it gets weird.

Okay, so the handsome prince falls in love with the princess-in-disguise, who goes by the nickname of Donkey Skin because WHY NOT? He's in love with her, but he doesn't know her real name, and his parents throw a fancy ball at their palace, and ...

Okay, I was wrong. HERE'S where it gets weird.

But, come on! Dressing like cats and birds is part of the special occasion!

Right ... so ... the prince sends word that Donkey Skin must bake a cake for him. She's super-happy about this, and plans to make him a "love cake" with her ring baked into it.

She even makes the cake while singing a duet with herself.

Hmmmm. Maybe THAT'S when things get weird???

Anyway, he finds the ring, says that only the woman who fits this ring will marry him (well THAT sounds familiar), Donkey Skin shows up, the ring fits her, and TA-DAAAAAAA, she's beautiful again!

BTW, that's the famous "dress the color of the sun," and it really is something to behold!

So, now the prince marries the princess, and everybody's happy, and their wedding guests include her father the king and her godmother the Lilac Fairy, and they arrive in a ... a ...

... A HELICOPTER? WITH A GIANT CAT ON IT?????

Okay, I misspoke. HERE'S where it gets weird!!!

Oh, and as the movie comes to a close, the Lilac Fairy and the king approach the princess. The Lilac Fairy says that SHE will be marrying the king (WAIT. THAT WAS AN OPTION???), and the king says that it's good to see her again. It's like that whole weird incest suggestion is just swept under the rug, and we just ... forgive and forget???

So, right about now you might be wondering just what is going on here. What's with this fairy tale? What's with this movie? And what's with the storyline about fathers wanting to marry their daughters? Because this must be the ONLY story where that ever happened ... RIGHT???

Greed 100% has put himself in harms way for me, his shield makes it the firat thing that pops into his mind anytime something threatens me his first instinct is to curl around me and activate his carbon shield and hes super protective like hat. Theres actually a more direct example of him coming to my rescue with full shield up in my Fanfic Chimera’s Loyalty (link is in my pinned!) and it always makes me blush every time he does this for me hshshs.

8. How do you think your F/O would propose to you? If they already have, describe how it went.

So we havent really made an official announcement, but Greed is actually my Fiancé, not my boyfriend anymore. The scene in the fanfic is yet to be written but basically he stole an emerald ring with a gold bamd from a local jewler because he knows i love the colors green and gold (as well as my birthstone being an emerald) and then he kinda tossed the box with the ring in it towards me while I sat on the couch and he kinda just mumbled “yours” and inside the box was a ring with a scrap of paper that read “will you marry me?” He was really sheepish and quiet about it, the big nervous lug, and I happily accepted of course! We havent really settled on anything solid for the wedding because its kinda hard for a chimera and a homunculus to get married legally since technically neither of us have the papers for it, but we’re hoping to hold a small event just for the devil’s nest!

If you wanna go full on dressed to the 9’s, we’re here for it. A gorgeous alt wedding dress that’s your favorite color, nice pants paired with a well-tailored vest and dress shirt. TIP #7: If you’re shooting outdoors, you can still dress TF up! You can TOTALLY wear clothes similar to what you’d wear for your wedding. TIP #6: Think about colors and styles that are timeless and that you LOVE to wear. For example, if you’re getting married in a lush forrest, probably don’t wear green. TIP #5: Avoid colors that will blend in with your surroundings too much. TIP #4: Put together a mood board (and share it with us!) to start brainstorming color pallets and styles that you like! You have more than one or two outfits, bring along jackets or your favorite cardigans and we can throw it on for some of the photos!
