WIP I'm Accepting I Will Never Write
My brain has been generating too many Star Wars ideas for me ever reasonably get around to writing all of them, so I'm going to start dumping them on here (maybe AO3 as well, not sure yet) once I've accepted it's an idea I won't get to. So, to start off:
Anakin got Arrested at the Start of the War
In this one, Anakin's massacre on Tatooine was revealed shortly into the war (Qui-Gon Jinn's ghost, A'Shared Hett or Padmé having a conscience, doesn't matter it's not the point of the idea and I don't think it affects the plot). Anakin goes to Jedi jail in the Temple and the war proceeds apace.
At the end of the war, when Palpatine sets off Order 66, the Temple Guard who in another timeline became the Grand Inquisitor lets Anakin out. They would be killing all the Jedi, but somehow the Jedi have been alerted and the Temole seems strangely light on clone troopers they could be using as backup. The Grand Inquisitor knows this, Anakin doesn't. He's been in Jedi jail and has no idea what normal operations in the Temple have looked like for the past three year. They manage to get to the atrium of the Temple with the objective of getting out and rounding up some clone troopers to come back with. Except there's this Tortuga fighting both of them. She's not getting in any hits in on them but this scrappy, can't be more than 16, 17-year-old is holding both of them off while simultaneously organizing the Padawans and Initiates to grab younglings and run.
Then the 212th enters, Cody and Rex frog marching Obi-Wan in.
Which gives Anakin the opportunity to villain monologue about the Jedi Order not understanding emotion, they threw him away, Palpatine recognizes his true power, Obi-Wan will see the destruction of everything he holds dear, blah blah blah. Basically entitled white boy I did no wrong (ignore the dead children), you'll regret being so mean to me (enforcing the consequences of my own actions), ranting regurgitating Palpatine's bullshit about Jedi.
Meanwhile, the Grand Inquisitor is noting that a lot of kids are safely getting the fuck outta Dodge and the 212th is getting some good lines of fire. Why are they letting Anakin monologue instead of enacting Order 66?
Finally as Anakin is winding down, Obi-Wan speaks up: yes but, you see, you made one critical mistake.
Anakin, sneering: oh what's that
Obi-Wan: you hurt your Padawan-sister
Obi-Wan Force pushes Ahsoka and every remaining kid out of range while the entire 212th opens fire on Anakin and Grand Inquisitor.
Inquisitor is dead on the ground (sorry buddy, you were just a plot device to get Anakin out of his cell and show off how badass Ahsoka is with Soreasu mixed into her Jar'dai (I think I spelled those right...)). Anakin is on his Force bullshit, not quite dead, as Obi-Wan, Cody, and Rex come over to check.
Anakin: you won't finish me off, you're a Jedi, you're too weak.
Rex putting three rounds in his chest and three in his head: I'm no Jedi, slaver.
Backstory to get to this scene that slammed into me like a ton of bricks months and months ago:
212th never split the 501st off since Anakin wasn't there to get Knighted. Therefore Fives went to Obi-Wan when he found the chip. Obi-Wan got Shaak Ti to distract the Kaminoans, so Quinlan (or another Shadow, but I like using Quinlan for the known connection to Obi-Wan) could dig in Kaminoans' files and find documentation as well as an emergency counter signal. Obi-Wan dechipped his battalion anyway, not wanting to rely on the counter signal being permanent. They then jammed Coruscant's communications when Cody got the Order from Palpatine. 212th then uses the counter signal on the Corries, as they go to the Temple to grab whatever Masters were on planet. The clones and a fourth of the Council go kill Palpatine as he's declaring the Empire on the floor of the Senate.

ok so i've been reading way too much of the @doomed-bythe-narrative account and the propaganda, I love it all. great poll, lot of great stuff, love to see it.
Even though he’s not on there, I want to talk about why, in my opinion, Anakin Skywalker is such a quintesential doomed by the narrative character. when he’s introduced in A New Hope, Anakin Skywalker is already dead. Ben Kenobi tells Luke that he knew his father, and that his father was killed by Darth Vader. that his father, who Luke thought was just a pilot, was really a jedi, who died fighting the empire. this becomes one of Luke’s biggest reasons to fight, amongst other things, and Anakin isnt mentioned again until the next movie, when, partway through Empire Strikes Back, the Emporer, who we’re seeing for the first time, mentions Luke as "Skywalker’s son". Again, we still think Vader killed Anakin. it’s not until just before the end of the movie that Vader reveals to Luke and us that Anakin isnt dead. he’s worse.
when he’s introduced in A New Hope, Darth Vader isn't a person. he’s a monster. a monster made of machinery and flesh that we can't understand. he kills without remorse, and watches people suffer. Anakin Skywalker isn't dead, he's something much worse. he’s become something else. in Return of the Jedi, we get to see Vader save his son, kill the emperor and become Anakin again. and then he dies. that’s it. we dont get to hear about anakin for sixteen years.
And he's a kid. Anakin Skywalker, who's already dead, who we already know will become a monster, he's only ten years old. a ten year old with passion and joy and a sense of justice. a ten year old with a very limited understanding of the world and very little say in what happens to him. It doesn't matter what happens, we know what he will become. but he’s not that yet. for right now he’s just a scared kid. when we see him in Attack of the Clones, we can see he’s already becoming what we knew he would. he’s impulsive and quick to anger. the tusken raider massacre is of course the main part but the whole movie he gets sharp with the people he cares about.
and this continues through the clone wars. no matter what happens, you know how it’s going to end. you get to watch him bond and care about people. and you get to see him lose those people. and even though you’re routing for anything else to happen, you know why it will. because now we’re watching his fall, every step of the way.
in Revenge of the Sith, we see him become Darth Vader, we see him become a monster, knowing full well there was nothing that could be done to change it. from the moment he was introduced in 1977, Anakin Skywalker would have to fall. there was no other way for the story to go.
anyways, that’s my rant.

You know what bothers me about Anakin Skywalker makes better choices AUs... they are always exclusively him making better choices during RotS. And I’m like... does anybody remember the Tusken Massacre he orchestrated WITHOUT orders but in rage during Episode Two AotC. Him making bad choices STARTED with that slaughter. But it’s like it never happened. If you want an Anakin make better choices AU it would either be before AotC where something happens to his development like Obi-Wan noticing something and he and the Jedi doing something different with Anakin like making sure he doesn’t have that much time alone with Palpatine or keeping an eye on Palpatine because Palpatine’s interest in the boy is disturbing and the Council and Obi-Wan have noticed it and have gotten Anakin to reveal some things like how in cannon comics Palpatine once took him out to a bar when he was UNDERAGED. Like these turning points, or idk somehow making sure the massacre doesn’t happen in the first place somehow and Shmi being saved in the nick of time. Or better yet, having Anakin hold himself accountable to the massacre and turning himself in for the crime he had done. Or him finally getting some legit therapy. ANYTHING. But RotS. No. I don’t take RotS AUs seriously anymore UNLESS the Council or somebody holds Anakin accountable for his massacre of the Tusken Raiders or something. If it’s mentioned and Anakin deals with some kind of punishment or consequences aside from fully embracing his genocidal tendencies produced by his abnormal rage that was built up through the years then yeah I like that AU, but realistically THERE IS NO WAY Anakin would make proper sensible choices during that time. During this time, Anakin is tired, he’s worn, he’s broken and desperate and the visions he’s getting transfers him back to the time when he lost his mother. It’s not a suprise that killing came so easy, that slaughtering his bretheren came easy especially after the Dark Side took a hold of him and twisted him thoughts so that he could justify the killings and murders he does to his own bretheren. The Jedi Massacre is the 2nd Massacre he commits. And it’s easy. Why? Because the visions of losing Padme reminds him of his mother’s death, and if he could slaughter an entire village out of vengeance for his mother’s death, he can definately do the same if he’s told that by doing this terrible deed he will be able to find a way to save Padme. He is desperate. And he’s committed this act before. It’s nothing new. The only complication is that the Jedi are at this moment the closest thing to family he has. That’s what makes the act he does EVEN MORE horrific. It’s damn awful. And yeah we wish he made different choices, but if you want him to realistically not make THAT bad choice, you need to look at the 1st bad choice, nay the horrific act of SLAUGHTER he commits in Tatooine after his mother dies. The Tusken Raider Massacre. I hate how people overlook this. I love Anakin. But no. I don’t put much importance of him having a happy life rather then him facing his terrible actions, and when it comes to fics of Anakin Skywalker, this is rarely focused on, or I haven’t found anything like it. This is why I prefer Darth Vader fics. Darth Vader’s sins are laid out and addressed and what’s more is when he is “redeemed” at least in the sense that he’s willing to face his terrible actions and the consequences of it, to try and make up for it, or to face punishment, he does. And it’s all laid out. Hell his servitude to Palpatine in cannon is practically a self-imposed punishment ON himself. And it’s so fucked up because he just keeps digging himself a hole with more terrible actions he commit for Palpatine, making himself Palpatine’s slave. And HE accepts it! Until Luke comes in and gives him a chance to make another choice, to choose right, to realize that there’s always a chance of redemption and light. Is he truly redeemed? I don’t think he is, not by the act of saving Luke. But by doing so he takes a step to the light. In my personal opinion, it doesn’t exonerate him, but I love this scene so much because it shows the importance and the significance that regardless of how deep of a hole you’ve dugged yourself in, the significance of redemption, isn’t really committing acts of good to make up for the bad and be forgiven, but it’s the act of choosing to do good and do what you can so you might be redeemed even if you might never will. And again Vader doesn’t, to me, get redemption by saving Luke. His actions are still selfish. But he’s given that chance. And that’s what I love Luke...
Okay this rant is going all over the place. But yeah if you want Anakin do make better choices start with either preventing the Tusken Massacre or having him face the consequences of it.

I wrote some Star Wars fanfiction! It's been a while and I'm very pleased to have written.
Relationships create a bond between people. When you're Force Sensitive, a symbol of that relationship, that bond, is painted on your skin. If it's a strong enough bond, it can overcome very limited Force Sensitivity. Galactic civilization has rather romanticized these marks, declaring them proof of soulmates.
That has strong consequences when Anakin Skywalker's marks disappear.
