i think this community can be really fun at times! i also think it can be toxic! that said, a lot of — not all, but a lot — the toxicity comes from people actively opening themselves up to harmful situations.

the cool thing about online spaces is that you have so much control in curating them! you can block someone whose opinions or posts you don’t agree with without ever having to interact with them. you can ignore or delete hateful anonymous messages, or even disable the feature entirely. you can privately message someone if you want to talk to them without an audience watching the entire thing.

the point of this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t engage in discourse, that being petty and dramatic isn’t fun, that responding to anon hate with a one-liner isn’t funny and cool. the point is to say that i think it’s kind of silly to complain about drama and negativity and hate when you also invite 300,000+ people to say some nasty shit to you with zero consequences on their end but a whole lot of satisfaction out of the reaction they get from you.

this isn’t directed at any one person in particular, and it’s not an attack. it’s simply a gentle reminder that you literally have the power to make this space a positive one. please stop letting strangers on the internet take that away from you.

This is a unique, and an incredibly huge home for only $274,900. It was built in 1973 in Oklahoma City, OK and has 3bds, 3ba. It's a little weird, but for less than $300K, you can work with it.

The entrance with glass walls is interesting.

You have to admit it's interesting. I would assume that the rocks on the left are for plants or something.

There're quite a few mirrors and curves.

Come around and down to the dining room.

The dining room is huge. It has a service window from the kitchen and a bar.

Go up 2 stairs to get to the kitchen, and maybe this area for everyday dining.

Very curvy kitchen.

Venturing in, we note that they took the stove and fridge. The backsplash has a busy pattern and a mirror between the upper cabinets.

The first bath is a shower room and is completely tiled.

The primary suite is very large and has a stone fireplace.

Down 2 stairs there's this room with a slanted wall and windows to the room below. Plus a shelf above.

This bath is rounded and has mirrors to fit the curve.

You also get a sauna. The unit looks like it's been well-used.

I’ve definitely done this before but it’s been a while so here we go!

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 26

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 356,978 but that includes several collabs. So I think it’s closer to 300k.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Carry On. That’s it. Nothing has ever grabbed me like this before.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I do! Comments mean so much to me, and I want to express my gratitude to the person and hopefully let them know how meaningful it was. I know leaving a comment can be intimidating or folks might not be sure what to say, but I promise, writers hold on to those gems. So I always feel like, if I reply, I’m validating their effort and maybe encouraging them to do it more. Plus! We have a VERY wonderful comment culture in this fandom and I think the more we cultivate that skill, the more conversations and connections we can make. And in those deeper conversations I always learn more about my writing from how the reader viewed it and, as someone who still feels very new to writing, I get a lot of value from it.

5. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of. But I’m not checking other sites so 🤷🏼‍♀️ This question is so interesting to me because most people are answering no, but does this happen a lot in other fandoms? So curious…

6. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! I participated in the round Robin for Birthday Man and co-wrote two other fics, one with @fatalfangirl and one with @whatevertheweather . Plus the Star Trek: Redemption series for @raenestee. They were all a ton of fun. The creativity really gets flowing bouncing ideas off of each other and getting to open a draft that’s already started or has moved a chunk without your doing is amazing. It can also be challenging but it’s a good kind of challenge.

7. What’s your all time favorite ship? Snowbaz, obvi. Wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.

8. What are your writing strengths? I’m always terrible at this question because after 3 years of writing I still feel like a novice and I always turn to others to tell me what’s working well. But, ok. What do I think is a strength? I think I come up with interesting concepts, and can dream up slightly more complex plots. I can do the inner thoughts or monologues pretty well. Following the emotional thread of a scene. Sometimes when I reread my writing I will find myself smiling or laughing or making a 🥺 face so that’s good.

9. What are your writing weaknesses? Grammar, punctuation, mechanics, word rules. Did I pay attention in English class? Apparently not. Sometimes I word things in overly complicated ways. Bless my betas for quietly and steadfastly fixing all of these things for me. I’m sure it gets tedious but I appreciate it! Especially since I don’t seem to learn to do it right even after they fix it 100 times. 😬

10. First fandom you wrote for? Carry On. Although, if I dug up some very old school work, I’m pretty sure there’s a short story from 6th grade that probably reads like a Wrinkle in Time fic.

this isn't even what prompted this post, but last week we were informed each unit is being charged $10k for roof repairs, due in full July 1st... I now understand special assessment fees are necessary sometimes, but they are offering NO payment plan options which feels insane. The response given by the HOA on that was "umm sorry u can call the city to see if they have any financial aid options" -_-

Also back in december they admitted to losing 300k in reserve funds cause a board member let their account go inactive lol

Several times I've not been able to leave for errands when I need, or I return home and i can't get my wheelchair back in

Since I put the cone in, my gf has observed this guy parking in other neighbor's spots and also BACKING OUT OF A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NEIGHBOR'S GARAGE (how???)

Not related to parking, but the neighbor frequently has people come to his door at weird hours (3-4 am) and knock HARD for like 10 minutes straight. i gotta assume hes dealing drugs or something. i don't care but the knocking is annoying if im in the front room lol

So last night I saw a tiktok of footage of a man (presumably Muslim) in some restaurant in England and a waitress delivers his food to his table, she sets down the plate, and immediately for seemingly no reason, the guy just reaches out and slaps her across the face. So ok, he’s a piece of shit and a misogynist. Fine, we all agree. But what got me is he was sitting at the table with a woman, presumably his wife, who was wearing a hijab. And he slapped this waitress and the woman doesn’t do anything but just immediately stand up, grab her toddler-aged kid that’s probably the man’s kid, and they all three leave. And it made me so mad, it felt like such a betrayal from this woman who’s out here wearing this sexist ass, male-religion-ass head covering, having children with this man and going quietly along with him after he assaults another woman out of the blue. It enraged me and I came to tumblr, as is my MO, to complain about it and I had a post typed up that was basically the one I posted this morning, but I didn’t post it, I actually fell asleep not long after. And then I woke up this morning, opened tumblr, saw the saved draft and was like yeah, I’m calm, I don’t need to post about this, so I deleted it. And then I took my ass to tiktok, naturally, and almost immediately saw a tiktok from a young beautiful woman who is a “spicy” model, saying that “ok, but don’t YOU also sell your body at your 9 to 5? 😏” and the tiktok had over 300k likes and soooo many comments from other women like “get your bread!” “Yea girl!” “I’d do it if I could!” (No you wouldn’t, because you CAN do it. There’s nothing stopping you save for you not wanting to do it). And I got pissed off again (a pattern develops) and came to tumblr to complain. And yeah I’m an asshole we can give all these women the fucking benefit of the doubt and be like well maybe the original woman was being abused by that man!!! Well this OF model still suffers under patriarchy even if she has to lie to herself! Our fight is the same!!! Yeah, fine. But I don’t care sometimes. It’s fucking annoying to constantly having to be pushing back against other women who are hell bent on ceding any gains we’ve made. “Yay plastic surgery! Yay sex positivity! Beating your partner is ok if it’s safe, sane, and consensual! Some women choose to wear the hijab! Makeup is empowering! Sex work is real work!” Like I’m fucking tired of this grandpa. It’s kind of how I feel about like the trans shit where im like ok, it’s understandable that people are pressured to go along with this, they’re getting all this bad info from all of these sources. But at the same time like, I was also pressured. I also received that bad info. And I realized it was bullshit. I’m not an extraordinary person in any sense and I realized it was bad. I questioned it. There are so many of us that push back against it. How can we excuse these women as just products of their environment when we live in that same environment and are doing the hard work, fighting the good fight. Anyway.

In the Empires Education Program (which is referred to by people who want to mock it and also the attendees of it as the eep. Others say Empires or E E P (separated letters)) there are two years of people attending that we care about.

Everyone that was in Empires or SOS, minus False, Pearl, Jimmy, and Gem is part of the EEP.

The secondary year we care about (the grade below) has Oli, Owen, Mog, Eloise, and a few others unnamed (prolly from Witchcraft) because I refuse to make this class smaller than Magic School Bus's.

Everyone (minus Pearl, Jimmy, and Gem) in Empires S1 is in the first year of EEP. The second year has everyone else (minus False) that was in Empires S2 and SOS.

The primary year we care about (the most plot relevant people are here) has Scott, Cleo, Lizzie, Joel, Shelby, Katherine, fWhip, Pix, Sausage, and Joey. You might notice that Cleo is in here, and they are not part of this group. Cleo is in here because I said so. Also I needed a place for her to be besties with Scott. And Cleo would be a great addition to this crew, just saying.

Anyways. Martyn is a vigilante, Pearl's a villain, Scott's a doctor, and Cleo's a professor.

The funny thing that I'm absolutely in love with is how they semi get along. but mostly don't.

see. Scott and Pearl had that whole scene where Pearl literally ran out of magic and started ripping it out of Scott's soul. Magic is part of your soul, so it comes from a similar place as your soulbond.

And so Scott and Pearl have a well justified rivalry. And also after they broke the soulbond -- OH I JUST REMEMBERED THE REALLY FUNNY SHIT -- they both became Worthy, Scott significantly earlier than Pearl.

I still gotta explain the Worthy thing dammit

Anyways the really funny shit is that normally, when you reject your soulbond, you essentially function exactly the same as a person without a soulbond except you've got a weird tattoo, and you will die at the same moment that they do.

EXCEPT the divorce quartet are part of the Eighteen (which irl are just the life series members), and this means that the rejection doesn't work. It works at first, and Pearl and Scott have silent minds for the first time ever, and then they hear the slight whisper of the other one's voice and just. they're suffering.

It's funny as fuck, imo, because I'm the sadist author that makes the characters suffer. hehe

essentially, the telepathy hurts more after they rejected it than before. And also they also have the normal consequence of "if the one dies, then the other one dies too" which normal soulmates don't have.

But because of the rejection not working, the four of them realized that they're Winners. And they all figure out that they're Winners because Pearl believes that Mortality mythology (aka life series canon events) is real.

And Martyn was like "hah Pearl you're crazy"

and Pearl straight up goes "Jimmy's the Canary"

and the three of them stare at Pearl

because EVERYONE has heard the legend of the canary. It doesn't fucking matter who you are.

And Scott knew the entire time bc he shares a brain with Pearl except he semi didn't believe it but he knew that Pearl believed it

But now they figure out that Scott is the Stars (2nd winner), Pearl is the Moon (3rd winner), Martyn is Mars/water/The Tower (4th winner), and Cleo is Pluto/fire/Death (6th winner).

And then perhaps Grian just walks out of the house and is like what're y'all talking about.

And then Pearl just stares at him. because she remembers what his soulmark is.

so basically ajax looks at the fate he’s been given and decides “uhh no thanks fuck that i’m gonna romance zhongli instead” because he spent all his time and money in the real world being a massive zhongli simp and honestly i cannot blame him.

since ajax is now a character in a video game he gets assigned like. a helper?? that basically acts as a system that keeps record of all of his achievements, relationships with other people, goals and main missions (very important!! if he does not complete them on time he will DIE for real) inventory and other stuff like that. he nicknames his system AR (but we LATER find out that AR is actually the spirit of the original tartaglia (who was killed when ajax entered the world and took over his body) but he didn’t know that for the longest time so basically he’s just babysitting this gay trainwreck (ajax) that now pilots his body. their dynamic is fun i love it)

ANYWAYS. anyways for the longest time this fic was about ajax fucking around and being a massive dork who’s hopelessly in love with zhongli, and how their relationship evolves over time. since ajax arrived like 2 and half years before the main missions were to take place he had lots of time to spend taking zhongli on dates and sightseeing with him and making meals for him and serenading him every night before bed, they’re so adorable. and zhongli is very much in love with him too!! this fic is great because the chapters alternate between being written from ajax’s perspective and other character’s perspectives (like zhongli) so we get to see how they feel about each other and. ugh it’s so cute. it’s so cute how zhongli basically immediately took a liking to ajax and was like ‘this one. this one is special to me. he is my little priest and i shall cherish him’ (because he’s a dragon and also a god and childe is like. his biggest fan basically. so he’s zhongli’s priest. it’s cute).

they go on lots of cute dates and they flirt with each other all the time and ajax is such a gay loser he doesn’t even realize he’s in love with zhongli and zhongli is head over heels for him until like. he basically proposed to zhongli. meanwhile zhongli is over here being like ‘ah yes. childe. my boyfriend of over a year. the one i share my home with and spend 90% of my time with. the most important person in my life. and soon to be my husband <3’. they are engaged like ajax definitely proposed to him and he didn’t even realize but they’re totally engaged

AND THATS LIKE THE FIRST 75% OF THE FIC UNTIL EVERYTHING GOES DOWNHILL BECAUSE REMEMBER THE MAIN MISSIONS AND SHIT?? AND HOW TARTAGLIA WAS ORIGINALLY A VILLAIN IN THE GAME?? yeah well SOME PEOPLE still want him to experience the same fate he did in the original game and they’re doing everything in their power to make sure that happens to him. so just when you think ajax and zhongli can finally retire and live happily ever after BAM childe’s under arrest for terrorism and attempted murder and BAM suddenly there’s courtroom drama and OH SHIT zhongli’s gonna reveal he’s a god to everyone to defend ajax’s honour but he CAN’T do that because that goes against one of ajax’s main missions so if zhongli reveals that ajax will DIE and there’s a counter counting down to his death basically so he has to do something to stop it and he’s already dealing with intrusive thoughts from genshin’s version of hell and the only thing he can think of is to STAB ZHONGLI TO MAKE HIM STOP. and it works of course but the ajax gets knocked out and he’s all alone again because AR got suspended during all of this and all of his friends know that he almost destroyed liyue harbour (because he had to. it was part of his main mission) and he doesn’t know if zhongli’s gonna be ok and HU TAO (OH MY GOD I DIDNT EVEN MENTION HU TAO. BEST AUNTIE AND ALSO THE ONLY OTHER PERSON WHO GOT ISEKAI’D INTO GENSHIN LIKE AJAX DID. SHES REALLY IMPORTANT HOW DID I NOT MENTION HER) comes along and is like “ok boyo it’s time to fake your death!!” so NOW zhongli and everyone else thinks childe is dead. and that’s where we left off.

so the next chapter is gonna retell those events from zhongli’s point of view and i am not ready to read about how ridiculously in love he is with ajax at the beginning only to be stabbed by him and have no idea what’s going on and then think he’s dead. my heart burst into a million pieces just reading the last chapter and thinking about how he was going to react and now i get to read it and-

anyways this is an EXTREMELY loose summary of what happens and is basically just the ramblings of an insane person but yeah. i’ve been following this fic for like 2 years?? so i’m along for the ride of emotions whether or not i want to be LMAOOO

First of all, all hail our queen, this chapter blew my mind, and writing with injured wrist is impressive as hell! (Take all time you need, perfection takes time and patience is a virtue, some should remember that)

Now I also totally get if you won’t answer this ask because of the second part, so I will praise your work some more: when you eventually finish, the quality of writing and the plot and everything will definitely make this THEE fic to be turned into a real life book, it’s better than most of contemporary literature out there right now!

What I wanted to ask (besides the praise bc fr this is right now THAT fic) how do you feel about the comments, as there are currently three types of comments (if I may analyse a bit - max is sad hence I am sad commenters, praising the work and third type: did you even?-ers) and reading them I got a feeling that some of them are taking this whole fic a bit too seriously? I get it, freedom of expression, but why do some feel the need to basically attack (DiD yOu EvEn ReAd ThE pReViOuS- obviously we all did 😬) other users for expressing their opinion on the work? Do you have any thoughts on that? Obviously high engagement is good for the fic but as someone who likes to read the comments as well, it wasn’t as pleasant as it usually is today.

and to answer your questions ... ok, bear with me here, because I already know I'm about to ramble.

but I guess. I don't really know how I feel about it. on the one hand, it's very flattering for people to feel that strongly. on the other, I don't like that readers can make other readers uncomfortable.

but then, I'm not entirely sure what place I'm supposed to have in that discourse. it's not really for me to decide what insights readers do or don't have, or how they engage with other people. I would always step in if things got genuinely nasty (especially if its in the comment section of the fic), which I have done in the past, but an author's responsibility is kind of a grey area in fic.

I of course wish that people could always speak kindly to each other, but I also think it's easy for tone to be misinterpreted in comments. I also don't see the comments linearly - when I get emails saying there's been a comment, the email doesn't tell me its in response to another comment. I have to go and seek that information out, which I often don't do.

all of which is to say - I don't usually know what kinds of conversations are happening underneath chapters, particularly when there are as many comments as there was on this chapter.

as for why I think it's happening ... honestly, I just think that this chapter stirred up a lot of emotion for a lot of people. most readers have either been on team Max or team Charles for a long time now, and from what I've observed, their immediate reaction is always to take the side of THEIR character. I think they often do also come back and go "hm, maybe the other person had some points too" but in the moment, the immediate, knee jerk reaction is to defend their character, and to "hate" on the other one. that's always going to spark discourse, because nobody can really agree on who's right and who's wrong in this fic (which is by design, of course).

anyway, I hope that kind of provided a little bit on insight.

Me! I want to! 👋 Hi, I'm Amaiguri. I'm a full time gamedev and I've released two games before and correctly predicted how much money I would make each time! Wow!

I've been considering converting the webfic I write into a story game of some kind -- a visual novel or a RPGmaker game or maybe even a walking sim? But I didn't know what I wanted to make!

This story has been THE STORY of my early adult life here -- it is SO important to me. So, while I'm a huge advocate of making whatever you want, I wanted to ensure whatever I put my effort into would be VAGUELY marketable. (Because, lemme tell you, webnovels are not marketable XD)

Before I dive in too deeply, **BIG DISCLAIMER**:

I am not a business person. I am using big, wide guestimates to make non-essential business decisions with myself. BUT I want to share my learnings with you. So, take everything I say with a grain of salt and JOIN ME on this journey:

Earlier this month, I made a post about wanting to make a visual novel. Specifically, a kinetic visual novel where you don't make choices and you just read basically. SO I've now done research into how well they sold. I used THIS website to determine how much money each of these games made (VERY loosely):

Juniper's Knot: ~$4k USD

Higurashi (The Whole Series): ~$300k USD (Averaging like 400 reviews per game and $50 for the whole bundle)

House in Fata Morgana: ~$1 million USD

I picked these out mostly because these are the small handful of kinetic novels I have actually heard about. I'm not saying there aren't other, more successful ones I haven't heard about but I figure, if I'm supposed to be representative of my target audience, I'm as good of a sample as any for this wild estimation.

Besides, Higurashi has a whole anime -- it is definitely fair to use that as an upper end -- and Juniper's Knot -- a tiny game no one has heard of -- as the lower end. (I mean, $0 is the lower end, but... you know...)

This paints a pretty stark picture, honestly. Like, this is looking at 6 to 8 years of work for... maybe a couple thousand for me? Realistically? Maybe up to $300k if I'm super lucky and go viral? And I'm not saying that isn't LIFE CHANGING money but like in the MOST MIRACULOUS scenario here, I am compensated less than my current salary for my current magnum opus. But realistically, I'm looking at maybe $1-4k if I get lucky. I'm not a horror-writer and I'm not a romance writer -- I will not have THAT feral of a fanbase XD And on top of all of that, I don't even play that many kinetic visual novels. I'm barely in my own target demo here!

Now, compare that to the numbers I ran on RPGmaker games where you just do narrative and there is very minimal gameplay:

Rakuen: 4000+ Reviews, over $100k in profits estimated

To the Moon: $8 Million in profit

A Bird Story: Definitely sold worse than To the Moon, was cheaper to make and cheaper to buy -- estimated at $397k

Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea: Dunno cuz it's free BUT its manga adaptation has 267 reviews on Amazon -- so the creator COULD have made bank on the actual game

See how much higher those are? Even when they're not as well known? And sure, the bottom is still $0 ultimately but the upper limit, with the most successful of these titles (and incidentally, the video game that convinced me to get into Game Design) is much much higher.

"BUT BELLE! Laura Shigihara did the music on a lot of those! You don't have Laura Shigihara!"

Ok BET! I'll hire her! The base industry rate for music per minute is $100/min. Let's suppose now she charge 10x that, cuz she's famous -- $1k/minute of music. I get her to compose a 3 minute song for $3k BUT she also brings over... say... 5% of her audience to check out my game.

That's admittedly, a high conversion rate so we'll just take 5% of Rakuen. Now, I'm imagining I'd charge like $25/copy of my game because it's gonna be like 300k words -- people pay $25 for a book of that length, so if I have art and programming also, I can do that. With just her 5% of Rakuen reviewers (21 reviewers of her 4.3k), that's like $7k USD. So, she'd probably just pay for herself and then some.

And to top all this off: I'm back in the target demo. I am ABSOLUTELY the kind of person who will play a solodev's RPGmaker game and forgive all jank and flaws and lack of gameplay if the story, art, and music are good.

That is, of course, making the assumption that I'll make good music and art 🥺🥺🥺

Now obviously, all this is WILD guestimates so like. You shouldn't make business decisions off this. I'm barely making "business" decisions -- I'm making hobby decisions. I have a full time job and I intend to keep it. BUT I think it's pretty clear where the potential money might be for me -- RPGmaker games.

OK LEMME JUST TELL YALL WHAT JUST HAPPEND IN GENSHIN IMAPCT-

-Server maintenance is incoming, 10 minutes before they go offline. I decide to live on the edge and do Radien Shoguns boss battle even though I'm out of resin because I wanted to help out randoms get their weekly done with her.

-I met a fellow ALOY ENJOYER WHO ACTUALLY HAS HER BUILT.

-1st round 3 people die, and we lose about 2 minutes of time, so we quit and retry.

-2nd try, we use a hyper bloom team (Kuki, Collei, Yao Yao, Kequing) and gurl, that purple bitch was BEING DESTROYED AT A PRETTY DECENT RATE LEMME TELL YOU-

-4 minutes before shut down, I (Kuki) die. The team is about half way on her hp, but she is still in God mode with her shield. I admit I'm starting to doubt a little, but THESE INSANE MFS GET HER OUT OF GOD MODE SO FAST-

-2 minutes before shut down, Collei dies. Radiens HP is almost gone, but I'm worried she will go God mode a 2nd time (she will do that if you aren't fast enough), but these mad mfs DEMOLISH HERRRR-

-I decide what the hell, and to use up some of the Moon resin I had stored up, and I get a dream solvent and 3 good artifacts

-after the fight, the fellow Aloy enjoyed and 1 of the other players decide to stay behind until the game kicks us out for maintenance. Found out me and Aloy enjoyer are both mobile players (who are both typing frantically before the game boots us lmao)

-Aloy enjoyer and I are talking about our builds for Aloy. I use 2 Blizz and 2 Crit, and they use 2 Blizz and 2 Noblesse. And their Aloys burst has crit 300K WITH HER BURST ONE TIME. They tell me to believe in myself because mine will too if I build her right. It was really nice to hear someone believe in Aloy and me, since I know a ton of people dislike her kit.

-Aloy enjoyer whips out the lyre, and starts playing the most beautiful song EVER. This persons poor thumbs definitely have arthritis, because there's no way that level of music talent came without a price. I wish I had recorded this lovely song for reals. I hope they accept my friend request.
