#and I'm late to go to bed again... yay

I'm still here despite my mild sleep deprivation and I will go on a bit of a rant, but I lost the draft and I have to start from the beginning again.. yay.!
But to quickly explain, I'm peeved with one (kind of?) ex ao3 author.
They seem nice as long as they don't see something they don't approve of and then they become pretty aggressive, demeaning and block you just because you have bookmarked something they don't like and all you did was leave a nice encouraging comment.
It's ridiculous, but on one side, this proves that you should private your spicy bookmarks so that overbearing authors don't come for your head, but on the other hand if you don't private those bookmarks, then those toxic people will just show their true colors from the get-go and you can just block them without wasting your time.
Neat. 👌
Edit: nvm my draft is fine, ugh... whatever, I'll work on it on the weekend
Also this author thinks if you read FICTIONAL pedophilia about FICTIONAL people, then you must be fine with it irl, which is gross and now you're BLOCKED!

housewife ♡ s.r. × reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tags: fluff but there's maybe lowk a bit of angst in the beginning? idk but dw it's cute; husband!spencer, fem!reader, GIRLDAD!SPENCER they have a daughter who's named luna because of my bsf cough cough we don't talk about it; maybe probably ooc sorry
w/c: 1.3k
a/n: I hate this somehow more than the last one yay !! this is just a quick little thing I wrote a few days ago when I was bored in class so yeah it sucks sorry guys
“baby, i'm so so so sorry”
you don't even need to read any of the other fifteen messages spencer sent you to figure out what happened—it’s the third time this month.
“there were some problems with the paperwork from the case
i'll have to be home late
i'm so sorry, sweetheart
it won't happen again
i'll make it up to you, i swear”
among many other apologetic texts, all things he's told you an uncountable amount of times before.
you just reply with a that’s okay and start putting away the silverware and candles from the nice dinner you were trying to prepare. you put away the food after making yourself a plate, and you sit down on the sofa to eat while you stare at your phone screen, the messages he's sent.
you can't be mad at him. he warned you about his job before you got together, and you promised him you could handle it. you’d feel almost guilty if you were angry, as you know how important his job is, both to him and to the country. he's saving people's lives, getting rid of the bad guys, as he likes to tell your daughter. you can't be mad at him for working, not when that's what he does. but, god, were you upset.
he had promised to get home before the sunset, and it was now almost midnight. when you picked up your daughter from her grandparents’, where she had been staying to give you and spencer some alone time—if he had gotten home when you planned it—even though she begged to stay up for her dad, you had to put her to bed with the promise of seeing him tomorrow.
when he gets home and sees you doing the dishes from the dinner, he immediately walks up to you and hugs you from behind, wrapping his arms around your waist and burying his face in your neck, peppering soft kisses there.
“i'm so sorry, baby.”
you nod, repeating the words you've probably said the most ever since getting married: “it's okay.”
“it's not, though. i shouldn't be leaving you girls like this so often.”
you hum and stay quiet for a while, until you finish up the dishes and turn around to face him, wrapping your arms around his neck and giving him a smile. “it's okay, spence.”
“stop saying that, it's not okay. i haven't seen you and luna in what feels like forever, and when i get home, she's already asleep, and you're upset. it's terrible. you shouldn't be so accepting of that.”
“it's not your fault, honey, really. this is your job, i can’t blame you for doing it.”
“i could find a new job, then.”
you stare up at him silently, processing his words for a moment, not knowing whether he's joking or not. you want him to be, because otherwise, you'll let him do it, and you don't want to be the reason he leaves a group of people he loves so much.
“i’m serious. i could be a professor full-time. or stay at home, if you want to go back to work.” he tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, smiling as he speaks in that dulcet tone.
“no, but you can't. you love it too much. you love the team too much.”
“i love you more, though”
you chuckle, shaking your head while you talk “it's like when house tried to quit being a doctor. he couldn't.”
“no, but i can. i really can. i’m willing to leave the team, they'll get it. i want to be a better husband and father, i don't… you know what happened to hotch and haley. i don't want you…” he can't even bring himself to say it. as he trails off, he shakes his head and squeezes his eyes shut, before looking back at you.
you stay quiet, your gaze falling from his eyes to a random spot behind him as you think of what to say. but when you hear the bedroom door creaking and soft footsteps, you both look at the hallway and see a tiny girl rubbing her eyes and mumbling sleepily.
“daddy?”
your tiny girl.
you smile and your arms fall from his neck, freeing him to go over to her. he lets go of you, albeit hesitantly, and takes her in his arms instead, twirling her around in the air as he gives her kisses.
“oh, my sweet girl, why aren't you asleep?” he asks with a chuckle as she wraps her arms around his neck and hides her face in his chest—hugging him similarly to how you were just seconds ago.
“i wanted to see you, daddy.” she mumbles, her tired voice muffled by the fabric of his shirt, making him look up at you with a pout like he hasn't seen the full extent of her cuteness many times before.
as he tries convincing her to go back to bed, he unknowingly and simultaneously convinces you it might not be that bad of an idea for him to leave the bau. seeing him tuck her into her bed like that made you wonder if he should ever be apart from her again.
so, as soon as you're alone again, this time after having showered and lied down, you gather up the courage to bring up the subject again.
“you're sure you want to quit?”
“yes.” he says with a certainty you'd never heard from him or anyone else before “yes, i'm so sure. i'd love to be able to spend more time with you and luna, to have dinner at home more than twice a week. i should've thought about it sooner, really.”
you hum and shuffle closer to him, tucking your face into the crook of his neck and whispering “okay.”
suddenly, you hear a weak knock on the door, and it's opened before either of you respond. luna walks in and stands in front of the bed, holding her stuffed giraffe to her heart and looking at you before speaking softly, “mommy... please, can i sleep with you tonight?”
“are you okay, baby?” you ask, a worried tone to your voice as you pull away from spencer to make space for her.
she crawls into bed, lying down between the two of you and wrapping her tiny arms around him, though they're too short to go fully around his torso, “i miss daddy.”
he chuckles and presses a kiss on her forehead, putting his arm out, where you lie your head. he brings his other hand to her back, rubbing circles on it and holding her close against his chest in order to get her to sleep, “i know, sweetie, i'm right here.”
soon enough, she's snoring.
after a long moment, you tilt up your head to check that spencer's still awake, and when you see his open eyes smiling at you, you whisper, “i'd love to go back to work.”
he lets out a breath, barely a chuckle as his hand around you starts running through your hair, “yeah?”
you hum with a nod, “mm-hmm. the bread making wife.”
he laughs at that, shaking his head, “yeah, i'd love to be your stay at home husband. if you'll have me as such.”
you giggle quietly and nuzzle your face into luna's hair. “would you wear a nice apron? like a proper housewife from the 1950s?” you ask after a beat, looking up at him through your lashes.
“do you want me to?”
you stop to think for a second, voice barely more than a shy whisper when you speak again, “kinda.”
“i will, then.”
and as soon as you go back to working, throughout a week of coming home to spencer making dinner while wearing an apron, you figure out why men like having their wives do it so much, and you almost stop hating that.

wen junhui (文俊辉) - "cuteness aggression"
Tumblr media
featuring: 文俊辉, and you.
~~in which ... you're a little too cute, too cute to the point that all junhui wants to do is pinch your cheeks all night. word count - 383
@wonkierideul, fuck yew and your cute ass cheekies bro. (also; this is. js for you :P)
Tumblr media
it was late in the evening, and you were lounging on your queen-size bed, still scrolling through social media feeds on your phone, when all of a sudden you felt junhui's fingers grazing your cheek. you turned to look at him, your eyes wide with surprise.
"baby? again?" you asked, a hint of a smile playing on your lips.
junhui grinned at you, his hand already poised to pinch your other cheek. "you caught me. i just can't help myself sometimes. your cheeks are too irresistibly soft and cute not to pinch. i think it's gonna become a ritual every night. the ritual of me just pinching your cheekies."
you giggled and leaned away slightly, shaking your head. "you're so hopeless, you know that? i'm trying to get ready for bed here."
"well, maybe I don't want you to go to sleep just yet," junhui said, moving closer and wrapping an arm around your waist. "stay up a little longer and hang out with me, babyyyy."
you bit your lip, considering his request. you knew you should get some rest, but the pleading look in junhui's eyes was a bit too hard to resist. "ugh okay, fine. but just for a little while," you agreed, reaching over to your nightstand to charge your phone but you didn't realize junhui has already done it for you.
his face lit up with a triumphant smile. "yay! you won't regret it baby," he said, pulling you closer and resting his chin on top of your head.
you sat in comfortable silence for a while, simply enjoying each other's company. junhui couldn't help but marvel at how perfectly you fit in his arms, like you were just made for him. he gazed down at you, watching the way your lashes fluttered as your blinked up at him, and the soft curve of your lips as you breathed softly.
unable to resist the urge, junhui reached out and pinched your cheek again, earning a soft gasp from you. "junhui, stop that!" you objected, swatting at his hand playfully.
"i told you it's a ritual lovey! this is gonna happen every night, whether you like it or not."
junhui had a proud smile on his face and you just rolled your eyes.
gosh, you loved this nerd so much, no. you loved your nerd so much.

The Time for Home
Drenagon
Teen And Up Audiences
Words:211,687 Chapters:54/54
Bagginshield, Nwalin
Oh boy! Where to begin?!
What a couple of changes to Bilbo's back story and the story for community of Ered Luin can do to the whole story one may ask... And the answer is this fic right here!
Bilbo's not quite an ordinary gentlehobbit, he's still a caring and kind hobbit, don't get me wrong, but gentle he is not. He doesn't fit the Shire, he doesn't fit where hobbits close their eyes and pretend not to see that danger exists in Arda. (Even though every single one of them knew what happened in the Fell Winter so many years ago) But where does he belong then? And more importantly with who does he belong?
But what about our beloved dwarves? Are they as simple as everyone thinks them to be? Greedy and untrustworthy? Certantly not! (Not the company at least) But what drove them serching for help out of Ered Luin and why do they end up on a doorstep of one very grumpy hobbit? Not dragons that's for sure.
If you're in search of a good laugh, good read and occasionally dubios morality then this one is for you! (Though I'd be surprised if you haven't heard about this one yet, because I am quite late to the party)
The most interesting writing style with multiple POV's of the company and other characters, that makes you feel like you're reading everybody's personal diaries! The most delicious character dynamics! The characters development! THE FIGHTS??? Oh you'll never ever skip those! Even if you're not the one for long and boring battles, you'll find yourself captivated by each and every move the boys make! You'll laugh with them, you'll cry with them, and I'm betting my soul on the fact that by the end of it you will feel thoroughly hugged by all of them.
Not only the characters are true to their original selves, but the additions to their personalities (the humor especially) feel as natural as possible! Also uncle-forgets-everybody's-names-trope
Many thanks to the most talented @drenagon ! Please let me give you my bestest hugs and thanks and anything you want really! You've made me laugh so many times I lost count. I've so many quotes (that I'll leave under spoiler line) that I revisit quite often just to have a lil giggle, you wouldn't believe. I am in love with the story you told, it's so not like the others it took me completely by surprise! Thank you again for the most joyful read, bless your soul!
Also I've added a lil doodle of one of the opening scenes above (don't think it spoils much or anything at all, maybe it didn't even happen (◔‿◔))
BEWARE SPOILERS
It is a happy ending! Found family trope! Not a lot of angst! As far from the original Hobbit as possible without losing the point of being "the hobbit"! No ring YAY! (there's one, but prettier) No BOTFA! Each family unite is perfectly developed!
Dragonsickness who??
The Killy Chronicles?! Hell YEAH!
Fatherly Thranduil!
Elladar & Elrohir!
Elrond hugs ^-^
Dwalin is actually hella smart (we knew)
And now to my fave quotes!!!
"Break anything in this bar and I will break your head as an apology to the barkeep." Thorin finished.
"Valar above, Dwalin was right."😱
"It was a tough life being an orc"
Dwalin: "And for the Valar's sake, you idiot, use me! Otherwise what am I here fore?"
Balin: "Entertainment value?"
"...then stuttered, stopped, and looked very hard at thorin. Thorin looked very hard back."
"You're late, Dwalin!" Uncle announced, giving Dwalin a stern look. Dwalin shrugged. "Oh, untwist your knickers, Thorin."
"...he watched uncle deal with the worst parts of kingship.
Treachery.
Famine.
Paperwork."
"One catastrophe at a time."
"Fine. But if anyone died he was going to be having words."
"Smaug the Fat."
"Dwaling the Immovable Object."
"Balls of mithril, the lot of them."
"Now, shoo!" Shoo they did.
"Bombur, sit on your brother, please."
"Dwalin in bed, Dwalin in bed," he muttered to himself fervently, needing the reminder more than ever.

A Different Kind of Night ⊹ ࣪ ˖
⤷ Malleus x GN!Reader 1.5k words synopsis: You have a difficult time falling asleep as your mind wanders with all the trouble your four months at NRC has caused you. A moment outside should be the perfect escape. But an unexpected visitor shows to prove that even the smallest of gestures are enough. a/n: My first work! Yay! Sorta proof read but now I'm second guessing if I missed something... Comments are appreciated! <3
The night was similar to the one you first met him on. You couldn’t sleep over the sound of Grim snoring and sleep-talking. The ghosts seemed restless and although you knew they harbored no ill will, the atmosphere felt suffocating with their presence. Slipping out of the creaky bed you had learned to love for the past 120 nights, you carefully stepped downstairs and out the front door.
It was freezing. That’s what was different from the first night. Winter was amongst NRC now, and the wind would whip especially hard frequently, leaving you clutching at yourself in hopes to warm up by just a bit. Snow had piled up as far as your eyes would allow you to see. It was beautiful and serene. The silence that hung in the air was making for a perfect scene to gather your thoughts.
Carefully, you scattered the snow from underneath you to make a spot to sit. Closing your eyes, you let your mind drift off, letting every worry that had kept you up at night slowly retreat. It had been a tough four months here. You never asked to be thrusted into this magic-filled world. For you to deal with everyone’s unresolved trauma. You had to remind yourself that you were still human and for you to feel bogged down from the burden was completely reasonable. As much as you wished to stand strong in front of others and help as best you could, it was getting harder and harder recently.
Tonight was one of the rare moments you could allow yourself to fall apart. Most of the campus was preparing to return home for winter break. It was reassuring in a way, knowing that there was a very small chance someone would come across your breakdown, even if it was so late at night. Nothing but the snow, wind, and dying vegetation was around to witness.
Or so you had thought.
“Child of man? Why are you out here so late at night?” When did he even appear?
You quickly wiped your eyes with the back of your hand. You smiled weakly up at him, “Oh, Tsunotarou. Don’t you know it’s always night when we speak to each other?” The chill in the air caught in your throat, making the words that spilled out sound painful. Or was it from the crying? You couldn’t really tell.
He had caught on fairly quickly. “What seems to be the problem?”
You felt small under his gaze. Eyes darting from his face and off to the side, you replied, “Ehh, it’s really nothing. Just homesick, I guess.” It wasn’t entirely untrue. But seven above you weren’t going to vent to this poor man about the real trouble affecting you. About how his world was taking its toll on you. The people at this school becoming the most annoying obstacle course for you to get through.
You hadn’t caught his eyes narrowing at your words; you were too engrossed in a particular spot of snow. You had secretly wished he would make his visit quick and let you be alone again. It was embarrassing enough to be caught right after crying, but you felt more tears welling up and it was getting tougher to keep from sobbing in this man’s face.
Tsunotarou let out a sigh and moved to sit in the cleared spot next to you. It was surprising. He didn’t seem like the type to risk dirtying his clothes just in an attempt to provide comfort. Although he was an arms length away, his proximity still felt overbearing. Your throat tightened more. Swallowing hard, you turned towards him and offered a reassuring smile. “I’m fine, really. You don’t have to stay with me.” Did he feel bad for you? That was an embarrassing thought. You didn’t know Tsunotarou too well, hell not even his own name. It felt wrong to keep him with you in such a vulnerable moment.
“Who said I didn’t want to stay?” Well that was a little unexpected. Again, he didn’t seem like the type to want to voluntarily be in this sort of situation. You exhaled softly at that, another small smile appearing.
“Thank you.” You replied, glancing down at the cement between your knees.
There was a particularly long beat of silence afterwards. It wasn’t entirely awkward but not totally natural either. The wind was picking up now. Snow had scattered more around you both, making interesting patterns to stare too long at.
“Are you cold?” His voice had startled you out of your daze. You lifted your head to look at him and he laughed slightly at the flush on your cheeks. You were indeed cold.
“Is it that obvious?” Shivering now like your body had been reminded of the chill, Tsunotarou made a move towards the garden. He moved with such grace it was impossible to look away. He broke off some branches from a nearby tree, the brittleness of them making it easy.
“Oh you don’t have to go through the trouble Tsunotarou,” You reached out a hand to wave him off. He gathered the branches at the foot of the steps and bent down to them. “I don’t even have a lighter on me, it would take too much time to get the fl-“ You had cut yourself off at what he did next.
He had gently let out green flames to ignite the bundle. Your mouth held slack in shock. With as much as you’ve seen, seeing him breathe fire shouldn’t have surprised you. Grim breathed fire but you never let that shock you. You assumed it was different because it was Tsunotarou doing it. He was too human, even despite the horns, sharp ears, and scary lizard eyes.
You quickly collected yourself and shot him a grateful look. The flames worked incredibly well and you felt the chill leaving your system almost immediately. He had sat down in his previous spot, though you could swear he was a bit closer now.
“Better?” He questioned softly as you nodded in return.
“Much.” Your hands held close to the flames, careful of the wind still blowing through making small sparks fly wildly.
“I apologize that this is all I can give you as comfort. I’m not well versed in…” He trailed off to search for the right words. “Soothing others.” You had giggled at that.
“This is more than enough, Tsunotarou. Besides, you didn’t have to stay with me. But you still did. And just that means a lot to me.” Your voice shook a little on the last words. Since arriving in this strange world, you hadn’t realized how much you craved a calming presence like his own. It wasn’t overbearing, but also not apathetic. Despite barely knowing you, he had offered his own sort of support, even when in the dark about your true issues. It was refreshing.
It was his turn to look away from you. Your words seemed to stick with him as he stared off. After a few moments, he returned to look at you and smiled softly. “That makes me glad, prefect. Unfortunately, I’ll have to take my leave. I’d hate to keep you up much longer.” Tsunotarou stood up and wiped any lingering snow off his clothes.
“That’s okay! Will you be returning home for winter break?” You were genuinely curious about where he would be, but a part of you also didn’t want to burden him with another night like this in the future. You laughed inwardly at the thought.
“That’s right. I’ve got some business to attend to there. I am also…” His eyes conveyed a strong emotion. “Homesick.”
You nodded in understanding. Slowly getting up, cautious of the still burning flame in front of you, you bowed deeply in appreciation.
“Thank you again, Tsunotarou. It was nice seeing you.”
“And you, prefect.” At that, you returned to stand straight, noticing suddenly that he was gone as fast as he’d come.
You bit your bottom lip in a smile. He was the most intriguing thing you’ve come across in this world. You returned to sit down in front of the fire. By now, your body seemed impossibly warm given the environment around you. It made for an even more peaceful moment.
You stayed like that for a good while longer. The wind had died down and so did your thoughts. Sleep was slowly inviting itself in, multiple yawns assaulting you. As you stood and stretched, the flames that had still been burning well caught your attention. But before you made an attempt to snuff them, a strong gust blew through and did the job for you.
You stood stunned for a moment before shaking your head and smiling. Hugging yourself at the sudden cold, you quickly made your way up the steps. At the entrance, you turned to take one last look at the empty landscape. You swore you saw a flicker of green light not too far off, but it was all too fast to say for sure. You shook off the feeling and reached for the door.
The warmth of Ramshackle invited you in, and as you went back in bed, sleep came too easy. Not even Grim’s incessant whining could distract you now.
Thank you, Tsunotarou.

❛❛ APOLOGIZE WITH FIREWORKS ❜❜
Tumblr media
a careless toss of an envelope with this week’s paycheck slid off the desk. your eyes followed the movement. “you’re slacking, [name].”
you’ve been slacking for the past two weeks. that’s how long it’s been since you and blue fought. you thought that she would come around and the two of you would hang out again like nothing happened, but of course, it didn’t. you were given straight radio silence, you even tried visiting her at her workshop and home. nothing.
she was your best friend and you hurt her to the point she’s shut herself in. was she even in there? was she ignoring you? did she run off? did she hate you now? did you just ruin everything? you couldn’t tell, it was like she locked herself in. this was killing you.
every since she left it was like all the good things she brought with her did too. the endless laughter between the two of you, the satuation of the world. because of her you finally felt safe, your loan sharks finally stopped bothering you.
sometimes you think you see her (which you don’t). anything blue made you think of her, clouds too. you can’t bring yourself to eat the blue raspberry candy.
the truth was that she was your good luck charm.
“do you want to lose this job?” big don’s voice rang in the office, snapping you back to reality. lose this job? this was the only job that could help pay off your debt that didn’t involve selling yourself, beating others half to death, and stealing.
“i’ve been kind to you. i gave you this pussy job so you could pay me back with my own money.” he leans forward resting his clasped-together hands on the desk.
“but i see something,” the tall man raises from his seat. your breath got caught up in your throat and your heart quickened its pace. “…someone has made you sloppy. has taken your attention off of what is really important.” you knew what he meant and you couldn’t deny it.
you have gotten sloppy with your work, clocking out a little bit early, and coming to work late more often— that was you when you and jinx started hanging out, but since jinx and you have gotten into that fight all of it got worse. “that new girl…” your eyes shot from the ground and straight to big don. the way he referred to her made your stomach turn. was he going to send his goons after her too.
“don’t—“ without thinking you stepped forward, you were about to walk up and slap him. good thing your mind caught up with you. yay, no bullet between your eyes!
“don’t what?” big don shot back at you, he stopped pacing and walked over to you. “run her out of flosnum? tie up the new girl in town? have some of my men give her a good beating? or maybe i’ll make you do that…” gulping at his implication you step back. you knew big don was sick, but surely not that sick?
right?
towering over you, two heads taller his dull dark eyes look down at you, his eyes make you feel so insignificant. you were nothing but a mere worker bee, “[insert sibling] may have escaped off to bilgewater. ixtal? ionia? who gives a fuck anymore. what matters is that one of you is here. one thing stands. your father’s debt.”
“get your act together or you’re on your own.” he then grips your hair, and with a harsh tug he pulls you closer to him. he smelt of cigarettes and mangos, “once you’re on your own i won’t care how and what you do to pay off the debt. sell your body for all i care.”
you left his office and went back to working at the bar. overtime. work for two weeks with no pay as punishment, which was mercy considering you've been waterboarded other times.
though you were starting to consider being waterboarded instead.
Tumblr media
how long has it been? she can’t remember, there was no point in counting hours or days when she was in this state.
her chipped painted nails scratched off her cuticles to the point they bleed. curled up in the middle of her room stuck in an unforgiving daze. a haze that consumed her mind and filled it with thoughts that pricked her brain as if they were needles.
she fucked up. again. and she doesn’t have the guts to try and fix it.
not that there was anything to fix, you were done with her. you hated her. you saw her as insane as soon as you saw her.
she was an idiot to show you that side of her. what made her think that this would be any different? danger or not, flosnum was not immune to her effect.
her blue chopped hair now grown inches past her ears but not long enough to touch her shoulders, her bangs terribly long, and the purple dye worn out. the bonsai tree on her bedroom windowsill half dead. the irrigating bear under her bed where its voice is too far to catch.
jinx. that’s who she was. she couldn’t fight it anymore. running from it has been deemed impossible even when she’s a sea away from piltover and zaun.
metal and wood clanking against each other.
she could hear it, the small huffs, exhales, and sniffles. the light-weight pitter-patter danced around her.
isha.
jinx was greatness to isha. a haven. a symbol. someone worth protecting.
jinx could feel the vibrations from the floor bouncing back to her curled-up position. she had her knees to her chest and hid her face.
she couldn’t bring herself to look up. she was scared that if she looked up she would see her. if she did, she wouldn’t know what to do.
all those times she told off sevika that jinx was dead, isha was the one that kept the image of her alive. not a symbol of destruction— no longer just a loose cannon but a hero.
powder was the one that died.
she thought that maybe if she could start over, it would all be from the beginning.
no jinx. just powder. the more she stayed on this tropical island she was reminded that she couldn’t be powder.
to be honest, jinx liked isha’s version of jinx. the version that isha would play games, watch battles fight each other, fall asleep to her overly-dramatized exploits, graffiti on walls, and stargaze with.
the careless dancing footsteps morphed into cautious ones and the steps were slightly heavier.
step. step. step.
these footsteps didn’t seem as if they were sneaking up on prey, still, jinx refused to raise her head up from her knees, her eyes stayed shut.
just ignore it.
she repeated those words, a mantra that got her through a handful of her episodes. unexpectantly, light fingertips grazed her shoulder, unsure if they could go further in the contact.
hallucinations couldn’t touch her.
a low gentle voice “blue.” jinx felt all of her defenses fall. how pathetic that’s all it took.
you crouched down behind her. jinx’s back faced you, wearing only a pink tank top and wool shorts that showed off the blue clouds on the right side of her body.
the only reason you were able to get in was because you found a foolishly placed spare key sticking out from under a ceramic pot with a wilting flower.
you were tired of waiting.
“i’m sorry.” trying to shove down the heat rising to your face, you swallow. there was nothing more you hated than apologizing, which was ironic since you did it quite often. normally when you did it, it was out of fear or common courtesy.
sincerely apologizing on the other hand? the thought of you being the person in the wrong felt like a punch in the gut, but none of that mattered.
the only thing you wanted right now was your friend back. “i’m so sorry. that day at the beach when i sighed it wasn’t towards you.” jinx was still. “that day was perfect and i ruined it. i made you feel that i didn’t enjoy it. i did! it’s just—“ you sucked in a breath before explaining.
“…i have a hard time living in the moment, i’m always thinking about my next shift. that i have my shift in this many hours, i’ll have to deal with rowdy customers in less than a day after, i have to pay off my debt.” she didn’t answer, it felt like you were talking to a brick wall.
“ever since you came into my life you have been what i look forward to.”
silence is all she gives you. not even a hum of acknowledgment. “blu—“ you couldn’t finish the nickname because of how shocked you were to see jinx finally turn her head towards you. you can only see her side profile due to the position the two of you are holding.
the saturation of her vibrant red-violet eyes is now exhausted and dull. an alarm rang in your head. scrabbling from your knees you made it to in front of her to get the whole view of her. you needed to see all of her.
jinx’s closed-off position, her days-old makeup, unkempt hair, and lightweight. her head a bit more raised so she could look at you better as your eyes roamed around her body.
her eyes.
her eyes were so doe and dull, the manic that she usually held in her eyes was nowhere to be found. this was the most vulnerable you’ve seen her yet there were still so many walls.
she looked horrible.
you did this.
“[name]…”
her hoarse voice made your heart ache. gulping, pushing down the guilt. you slowly and carefully take her hands into yours. “let’s get you cleaned up, blue.”
the first thing you did was take off her makeup with a wet piece of cloth. you had no idea how long she had been like this, it looks like she had that same face of makeup for almost a week, probably more.
her cheeks were tear-stricken with dried-up mascara and eyeliner. her purple eyeshadow was worn out along with her smudged lipstick.
you washed her hair in the sink. she sat on a chair, her head leaned back as the faucet ran through her blue locks. your hands gently messaging her scalp, and then detangled everything with a brush.
the two of you didn’t talk at all. sitting on a stool your wrist moved in circular motions, washing her back.
she felt herself slowly come back to reality. the way you were being so careful with her as if she was worth being gentle to. were you doing all of this just to torment her?
surely you weren’t faking the affection in your touch? you wouldn’t do such a thing. you couldn’t.
she felt her eyes burning up.
she felt the rough texture of the cloth exfoliating her skin, your hand carefully leading its way to her tattooed arm. your movements slow not wanting to have her pull away from your touch.
jinx lets out a ragged breath, louder than the scrubbing of her skin and water droplets. that was the first breath she let out since you came to her. your movement paused and went even slower. gentler.
that’s when she bursts into tears.
you froze up a bit hearing her choked sobs, “oh hon…” jinx’s shoulder shook as she leaned forward, away from you. her sobs only got louder and louder. saliva collected in her mouth and her face turned a pinkish hue.
putting aside the cloth you took her shoulders and pulled her back towards you, you wrapped your arms around her neck, and your head was right next to hers. “tell me what’s wrong.” you whispered in her ear, you didn’t bother hiding the tremor in your voice.
“please, talk to me. did i make you upset again?” you plead for her to talk to you.
“i’m sorry.” her sobs so broken that her voice cracks as she apologizes. “i’m sorry. i’m sorry.” she just shakes her head repeating herself over and over again.
“shh.” you say rocking the both of you side to side in an attempt to lull her sobs. “it’s okay, there’s nothing you need to apologize for. we both messed up.”
“i’m such a child, i ruined everything!” she hiccups, her sobs only worsened. she leans on you like a child seeking comfort.
“stop that. you ruined nothing, okay?” you tried to keep your voice firm.
“i made something out of nothing again and i pushed you away and now you hate me—”
you cut her off, “if i hated you would i be here right now?”
“you will once i mess up again.”
sighing, you pinch her cheek. “it was a silly little fight, we got through it.”
jinx winces at the pinch but she doesn’t pull away instead, her cries lessen and her face scrunches up a bit. “what if we get into another fight?”
not letting go of her cheek you kept speaking, “we’ll get through it. even when i get irritated or mad with you, i’ll always come back to you.” she turns her head and you pull away to give her some space to move.
her eyes were bloodshot, her pink irises sparkled as if she was begging you to confirm your words. “you’re my best friend, things like this will always pass over, i promise.”
jinx’s sobs were no more and what was left was her small sniffles as you got back to bathing her.
Tumblr media
getting back together with you made jinx realize some things.
number one: you would never ever ever ever leave her no matter what!
this meant she could do anything without you leaving her. like sleeping together in the same bed and kicking you off.
number two: the two of you were practically made for each other!
she has been clinging onto every second of the day and you welcomed it with open arms. (well other than the times she’s stalking you, but you don’t need to know that!) has she gotten more childish with you? maybe.
it was your day off so per usual you were with her, instead of rotting together at her workshop the two of you went out for ice cream and window shopped. the two of you walked side by side in the blazing heat, jinx’s arm hooked on yours.
usually, she would complain and complain in this weather and end up with sunburns which you had to tend to. these days she wouldn’t, it was like she grew up with flosnum. she wore a mismatched bikini top and stockings, low rise shorts black and pink shorts, and black boots with pink laces. “new style?” you raised a brow.
“just matching the weather.” jinx licks the dripping cotton candy ice cream from her cone. the undercity wasn’t hot like flosnum. it was humid at best but mostly cold. hell, she felt the warmth of sun on her skin more on her first week here than she did her whole life in zaun.
going on your route you spot a jewelry vendor, something catches your eye. mindlessly pulling away from her to go check it out jinx furrows her brows, she follows behind you. your eyes were on the turtle trinket. the jewels on it sparkled like no other.
stupid.
jinx’s finger hooks on the loop of your bottoms and pulls you closer to her side. she bends over a bit to get a better look at the stupid trinket. “oh come on, toots, you don’t need this. you already have that ugly turtle pendant.”
you smack the back of her head and she whines. “my necklace is not stupid!” you defend the bronze hanging around your neck. “besides, i wasn’t going to buy it….” your eyes trail to the price tag, the sight causes you to frown. “way too expensive anyway.” you turn on your heels and walk away from the vendor.
she watches you walk away and back to the turtle trinket. it was ugly. tacky too. you wouldn’t look good in it.
jinx shrugs and catches up with you, she loops her arm with yours licking her ice cream once again with a stolen trinket in her pocket.
number three: she missed chaos.
because of that, she’s going to blow up at tonight’s festival. she’s been working on it the day after you bathed her, tucked her into bed, and fell asleep in bed with her. which was six days ago.
don’t worry. don’t worry. she’s not going to kill anyone. she was done with that, instead, these bombs were going to make a teenie tiny little mess.
today’s festival was in honor of the day flosnum successfully defended itself against bilgewater, many lives were lost due to the battle. which was an incredible feat now that jinx thinks about it.
anyways, that doesn’t matter! what matters is that she wants to ruin it.
it’s the most jinx thing she can do.
somehow the paradise was infinitely more vibrant under the dark sky. maybe it was the twinkling stars, the glowing plants, and the fairy lights. everyone gathered in the streets, adorned in tropical garlands. the two of you held a stick, the tip burned bright, sparkling.
normally, jinx’s mind would be on how gorgeous your smile was, but today she was too excited to even think properly. she was too happy to fuck the celebration up. she had already planted the bombs.
the air was filled with a sweet and fruity scent of exotic flowers. your sweet laughter echoed in her mind finally snapping her out of it. “what’s got you so happy, blue?” she asked, pointing out her dumb smile.
jinx dropped the stick, “follow me.” she grabbed onto you forcing you to do the same and follow behind her.
there was so much of everything. people, noise, lights, smells. you canvas through the streets and she takes you onto her workshop’s rooftop. though her workshop was placed in a shady alleyway, the view she had up top was breathtaking.
her rooftop was decorated with random cut-up fabrics, unfinished projects (aka junk but she won’t let you call it that), and colorful lanterns. the stars painted the night sky, the jinx sat on the rooftop ledge. being the more cautious one you tried not to, but she forced you anyway.
“we’re best friends, right?” jinx slowly turns her head to you, your eyes are on the ground, watching the people below.
“i sure hope so,” you snort. realizing that it wasn’t the right time to joke you backtracked, “of course we are, the best of friends.” you didn’t look back but that didn’t make your response any less sincere.
her red-violet eyes trace your side profile. you were pretty like this, with the colors of the lanterns illuminating off of you. the color blue graced your brown skin and the coils of your hair. it was almost as beautiful as when the sunlight would kiss your skin.
jinx wasn’t sure when it started. “it” being when she became so attentive to you. maybe, it was the day she first saw you behind the counter of her now workshop. maybe, it was the day she crashlanded and you saved her.
the topic of the day she crashlanded was never brought up between the two of you. jinx wasn’t sure if you were aware that she knew.
jinx should’ve forgotten about you that day, her vision was hazy and smoke filled her lungs— her mind shouldn’t even have registered the details of you. but she did.
the key detail she remembered?
it was that stupid bronze necklace.
the ugly piece of metal that is still hanging around your neck. it looks as if it was handmade. well maintained yet specks of chipped-off green paint on the turtle’s shell.
“good,” jinx smiles at your answer. her hand reaches into her pocket and your eyes follow, her fist closed around not letting you know what it is just yet. “because i wanted to give you something.”
your eyes finally lock with hers. “i’m not good with words. i’m not good with my actions either.” her vibrant eyes shift away from yours, but she forces herself to keep eye contact with yours. “i fuck shit up. always. as soon as something good comes in my life it’s taken away, by my hand or something else.”
jinx couldn't find the right words, she didn't even know where she was going with this. “i ruin everything,” she laughed bitterly, her eyes searched yours to see if you were annoyed by your senseless rambling, but you didn’t. you listened, waiting for the next words to come out of her mouth.
“i’m jinxed. it’s in my name.”
jinx looks down at her hand, her fist is holding onto the mystery item tightly. then her fingers hesitantly open up her fist, revealing what’s in the palm of your hand. you look down. this feeling in your stomach, it flips and flutters. “blue, is this—“
“jinx,” she didn’t let you get a sentence in. “that’s my name.”
jinx...so that was blue's name. oddly enough, it fit her perfectly. she didn't look like a sasha, cassie, hannah, or kate. for someone as cool as her she should have an equally cool name.
“that’s so cool!” your eyes twinkle, filled with excitement, completely ignorant to the significance of this moment.
when the words left your mouth jinx left hundreds of degrees hotter. a warmth blazed through her body. no one has ever had this type of reaction to her name.
“so, you’ve been cool you’re whole life, huh?” you scrunch up your face in mock jealousy. “cool hair. cool talents. cool personality. cool name. you’re just a package, aren’t you, jinx?”
why did she like her name coming from your lips so much?
trying to hide her flustered state she puts on a cocky front, “enough of how cool you think i am. are you going to take my gift or not?” she dangles the trinket in front of your face. “you stole it.” you blink at her unamused. still you took it from her hand. “says who? you think i can’t afford something like this?” she tilts her head, raising a brow.
“then what’s this?” you point to the tag.
she looks at it and grumbles. after pulling it off she then put on a faux innocent smile. “what’s what?” seeing how your unamused expression didn’t waver she sighed in defeat. “i just wanted to do something for you, you deserve tiny luxuries like this. maybe it could bring you some luck too. a lucky charm.”
her words managed to make you loosen up. your face softens. “thanks, hon, but i already have a lucky charm.”
jinx’s squints her eyes at you, “wait, you do?”
"i'm talking about you, jinx."
jinx, a lucky charm? how ironic. se had always been the cause of trouble, never the solution. when she did try to find one it only made everything worse. but here the two of you are. you hailed her as your lucky charm. a good omen.
she lets out a bark of laughter, she laughs with her full chest. all of this was too surreal it was making her head spin.
POW POW POW
with distant bangs a cloud of red, then purple, then green, then blue. the town square exploded with a flurry of colorful dust. the dust danced in the sky and fell back down onto the cobbled ground as if it were snowfall.
oh right. jinx forgot about those.
the two of you whip your heads to the noise to see the mayhem going on.
their faces being painted with the colorful dye. the locals dance and twirl along with the ongoing blasts of the bright vibrant powder into the air. children rushed trying to catch the falling powder, some even making angles on the ground.
your eyes snap wide with amazement at the view, “oh my gods!” no way in hell were you going to miss out on something like this. you carefully get off the rooftop ledge and pull jinx with you.
“get your ass up, let’s join the fun!”
screams, panicked voices, and people trying to take cover, that’s what jinx expected. not the sound of flosnum residents’ laughter and cheers. her plans to cause chaos failed.
she really was a jinx.

Part 6

Joel couldn’t help his smile forming when he saw Sarah’s car parked in the garage.
His BabyGirl was home. He had missed her, missed having her around the house, missed having her snuggle to him as they watched movies together, missed having her steal bits of his breakfast as he ate his every morning, missed having her yell out ‘alarm!’ at his door every morning. She inherited Anita Miller’s early riser gene, that’s for sure. Weird thing was, she wasn’t an early riser when Laura was around. She was only one year old then, but the day after Laura passed, and every single day since, with the exception on days she was sick, her eyes opened the moment whatever the time it was to be the definition of a ridiculously early riser and then made it her business to wake Joel up with her, ranging from wailing her lungs out, jumping on his bed ‘til he gave up, to shouting ‘alarm!’ outside his door.
Ellie got a rude awakening the first morning after she moved in with them, that’s for sure.
Joel was never a late riser, but Sarah made him seem like one. As tired as he was all those years ago, a single dad, being the sole person responsible for the little girl’s needs, he had to abide by her body clock, and that meant waking up before the sun did, making her breakfast. Although, he would be lying if he said he would have it any other way. Those precious sleepy times in the mornings were what he missed the most when she left to go to college. Just the two of them, Joel doing her bidding, Sarah perched on the kitchen counter telling him what to do until she was old enough to cook for him instead.
The first time she did that, his Mama had just passed, and it was the first birthday he had without the breakfast spread she usually made him. So Sarah, standing on a small stool, cooked, at age eight, and Joel willingly ate the shell-filled scrambled eggs and burnt toast she made for him, his heart full, his eyes wet, her happy face seeing her Dad eat the breakfast she made for him making him think, at least for a moment, that he had done a good job raising her. She had since learnt that you don’t cook the shells with the eggs but always made sure to include some on his birthdays just to remind him of that first time. And he would eat the shell without fail, pretending to be annoyed with her for it every single time.
That morning Ellie trudged into the kitchen complaining that it would be the last day she could wake up at a respectable hour, since Sarah was due to arrive later that day. Bye-bye waking up at a reasonable hour, she had grumbled, despite the excitement of seeing her big sister again.
Joel laughed, plating his eggs and pouring Ellie her cereal. Hmmm… Ellie thought, he laughed, but there was something off about his laugh. He looked happy, excited, even, maybe he was looking forward to Sarah being home. She woke up to a text from her that she was already on her way and was due to arrive around 3pm. But as happy as Joel seemed to be, something was not quite right. Ellie tried and tried to figure out what it was, but for the life of her, she couldn’t.
Until Joel got an old 3-in-1 packet of coffee he got as a sample months ago out of the cupboard and made himself a cup of coffee. He looked full of thought as he stared at the mug in his hand, took a deep breath, a look of longing and dissatisfaction clearly on his face as he took his first sip.
Oh… she thought. He’s missing your coffee… or… to be more hopeful, you?
“You know, Joel, Sarah won’t be here for hours. We do have time to go to the rec centre if you want coffee. I know you like the coffee Lil makes,” she tried, not looking at him, pretending to be busy looking at her phone instead. This was a delicate task, she knew that. She must never let on that she knew he was crushing on you. That would just scare him and make him stay away from you.
Joel paused as he was taking a sip, looking as if he was contemplating the suggestion. He stood up from his leaning position on the counter, hand pressing down on it, his fingers accidentally brushing on the broken coffee machine. He immediately turned around towards it, staring at the machine for a few long seconds before telling her no.
Ellie didn’t say anything, despite the disappointment she felt. She knew what just happened. He saw the machine and was now reminded of his late wife. She and Sarah had a theory. He loved her so much and never wanted to fall for another, maybe he felt as if that was a betrayal to her memory. That must be why he refused to get rid of that machine. Uncle Tommy and Angela often reminded him she was gone, and Joel had always, always walked away every time they did that.
Sarah never dared say anything about this to Joel. She didn’t remember her Mom, and Joel never talked about her to help with that bit. Her Nana didn’t talk about her either, which was weird. Neither did Mrs Adler, the lady who looked after her when Joel was working. She remembered asking Joel about her one time, exactly one time when she was much younger, and Joel changed the subject. He was quiet after that, didn’t really look at her and was noticeably down for a few days. When she asked Uncle Tommy, Tommy told her that her Mom was the love of her Dad’s life, and losing her, talking about her, hurt him a lot. Tommy didn’t know much about her Mom, not knowing her that well. But Sarah made do with the few stories she could get from him and made up her mind not to trouble Joel with such questions again.
Joel busied himself getting the house ready for Sarah’s return. Washing her sheets, airing, dusting and vacuuming her room, the likes. He ordered lunch for himself and Ellie, eating in silence, before deciding to go out and stock his fridge and pantry with Sarah’s favourites. They were planning to drive out to the cabin in the mountains that he and Tommy bought a few years back the next day, so he needed to get provisions too.
He drove his truck in silence. No music, no nothing. He was excited Sarah was coming home, and nothing was going to spoil that for him. Not even the sight of the broken coffee machine that put to bed his excitement about getting a cup of good coffee from you. He wandered the aisles of the store alone, getting what he needed, the cart filling up to the brim in no time at all. He stopped at the coffee section, looking at the selection of fancy coffee he could get to satisfy his caffeine addiction for the week. His mornings would be filled with breakfasts and brunches with Sarah, Ellie and Tommy, all he had with them without the worry of work or schools or extra classes before Sarah started her internship the next Monday. He wouldn’t have time to go queueing up for coffee, not that there were any within a 30 minutes’ drive from the cabin anyway.
He asked the young man who was arranging some boxes of coffee on the shelves what he could get to replace good coffee without having to buy a machine for it – and the young man recommended a box of drip coffee for him to try. Just tear off the top of the packet, open and place it on a mug, pour in hot water and wait for it to finish dripping. The brand even came with a variety of strength. Joel got the strongest one they had and drove home.
He drove his truck home in silence again. Once the truck stopped, he realized that he had ended up at the rec centre parking lot. What? How’d that happen? He sat there, stupefied by what just happened. He laughed at himself for a bit, chastising his old mind for the habitual drive he had been making these past couple of weeks. Ellie wasn’t there, he didn’t need to pick her up. His brain just went there. It was a habitual thing. That was all. His mind went on autopilot and his body followed.
Although… now that he was here… he thought, glancing at the corner that would take him to your truck. He could, technically, just… go over and get a cup of coffee from you. That cup of sample coffee he had did nothing for him. Maybe he could just…? He reached for his gear knob, contemplating… it’s almost three in the evening. Was that too late to get coffee? He didn’t want to lay awake all night, like he did last night, which didn’t actually make sense since he only had one cup at your place. And it wasn’t even the extra strong six shot thing. It was just a regular cup of black coffee. Yet, he laid awake all night, unable to sleep, thankful that he could at least sleep in a little since Ellie wouldn’t be going to Frank’s class for the rest of the week.
It befuddled him. Why couldn’t he sleep? His mind went to the way you stood in your kitchen, dressed in a robe, making his cup of coffee for him. How your damp hair was up in a messy bun instead of the regular pony tail, your face completely devoid of the usual coloured lip balm you continuously refreshed throughout the day at the truck, how your fingers wrapped around the spoon like thing the coffee ground was in, working the simpler, but still complicated (to his mind, at least) machine you had in your small kitchen. He didn’t see you put anything extra in the mug, so he couldn’t find reason as to why he couldn’t sleep. He thought some more, looking for clues as to why this might be, and his mind wandered to the way your tongue stuck out a little as you steamed some milk for yourself, how your lips wrapped around the rim of the mug as you drank your coffee, how they scrunched up a little as you swallowed, your tongue licking the edges of them as you cleansed them off the frothy coffee that stuck to them…
So, no answer as to why he couldn’t sleep. He wasn’t going to risk a sleepless night tonight, not when he knew Sarah was going to wake him early the next day. So he’d better not get the coffee.
But he was here. His eyes remained glued to the corner. He didn’t really know why, but they were. His engine was still on, gear was on Drive, but his foot remained firmly on the brake pedal, eyes looking for something he couldn’t seem to identify. His heart skipped a beat as someone walked out, sitting up straight a little, straining his neck out to see who it was. He huffed a laugh at his own silliness when the person turned out to be some random lady walking out to her car, which he was now blocking.
His phone beeped. A text from Sarah. ‘Back home safe!’ she exclaimed, a selfie of her and Ellie in his garage accompanying the text. He took his foot off the brake pedal and drove out, excited to see his little girl.
Tumblr media
“Food’s here!” Tommy’s muffled voice rang out as he walked in through the front door, the handles of a take-out bag in his mouth, his arms laden with more. Ellie and Sarah squealed, running towards him to get the bags off him, running with them back into the kitchen, where Joel was taking out plates from the cabinet.
“Sure, get the bags. Don’t hug your Uncle Tommy or anything!” Tommy yelled after them, Sarah coming back to let herself be squeezed to near death by her one and only uncle. Ellie received a hug and hair tussle from Tommy as he entered the kitchen, a hand slapping his brother’s shoulder, the other grabbing a beer from the fridge.
A very merry sushi and ramen dinner was followed by movie night, the four of them sprawled out in front of the TV, some movie about vampires or something playing. Joel didn’t care. All he could think about was his Sarah was right there, snuggling up to him, his Ellie on his other side, his brother Tommy laying on the love seat, his feet dangling off the edge. His family was here. So he watched the weird, vampire movie Sarah had picked, and watched the second one, where it had now mysteriously become a werewolf movie, and didn’t complain.
Tommy’s phone rang halfway through the second movie, and he slipped out back to answer it. Joel subconsciously got annoyed. Tommy had always done this. He would get a phone call or a text in the middle of family time, leave and then brag about his hook ups the day after, before trying to convince him to join in the next time. One time. Just one time, stay and finish the movies, Tommy. The girls were growing up, and they would leave the nest for good soon. Enjoy this while it lasted, Tommy, for God’s sake. Like it or not, they were the only family he had.
But then, Tommy didn’t leave. He was still outside, pacing the backyard in slow, steady steps, occasionally smoking and laughing, a smile evident on his face the whole time, even from where Joel was sitting. Okay, this was weird. Maybe he was just sweet talking whoever the poor young lady was on the other end of that call into meeting him after? But the second movie ended and he was still there, still talking, still laughing to whoever was at the other end. The girls got up and hugged him goodnight, Sarah being extra smoochy with him, telling him he’ll get his usual wakeup call the next morning. They went outside and hugged Tommy goodnight, the man finally hanging up, asking Joel if he’d join him outside for a beer.
“Hey, Joel, when you said you wanted to retire… was it just the privacy thing?”
Joel took a deep breath, took another sip of his beer, and nodded.
“That, and I guess… Let’s face it Tommy, we’re not getting any younger. I went to bed every night and every morning I wake up, I swear something on my body that functioned perfectly well the night before stopped working. I sneezed the other day and almost threw my back out.”
Tommy bellowed, spluttering beer everywhere.
“Also… this city… it’s just… noisy. The traffic. The smog. There are cameras everywhere… I just can’t see myself growing old here.”
“So where? If not here, where?”
Joel shrugged. “I don’t know. Somewhere quiet. Maybe I can raise sheep. I don’t know. Just, not here. Not in a city.”
“Somewhere like Nana’s and Pops’s?”
Their late Papa’s parents lived on a small farm. Tommy was only four when they died, but every Christmas ‘til then, they would travel up north and had a white Christmas. They were the best Christmases Joel could remember. His Pops and Papa would pull the two of them on a sled up a hill and they would sled down all day until Nana and Mama called them in to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Although why they were so worried, he didn’t know. He wasn’t cold. Tommy’s face and ears would be all pink and so were his, but they felt nice and warm, feeling so free and exhilarated from all the fun they had.
He wanted Sarah and Ellie’s children to remember spending Christmas with him like that. He wanted to teach his grandchildren how to chop wood, how to build things, wanted to let them play with animals, the way his Pops and Papa did with him. He wanted to make them hot chocolate with marshmallows and drink them by the wood fire. He wanted to have their stockings with their names on them hung above the fireplace, the way his and Tommy’s were at their grandparents’.
He hadn’t realized he had said all that thought out loud. His mind snapped back to the present with Tommy looking at him with warmth in his eyes.
“Don’t snap at me, brother, but… may I ask, if you were planning to have someone with you there? You know, to grow old with?”
Joel went quiet.
“Look, Joel, I get it. You loved Laura. But she’s gone, man, it’s been a long time. The girls are leaving soon. You’re really telling me you’re never going to find someone to share your life with?”
Joel took a really deep breath, “You know nothing about my life with Laura, Tommy.”
“I know, and I’m not trying to pry. Really, I’m not. You have all the rights in the world not to ever talk about Laura with me, but if you are gonna have that future you are thinking of having, are you really going to live it alone? That future sounds lovely, Joel, but doing that alone? I don’t know… it just sounds… lonely… sorry Joel…”
Joel shook his head, waving his beer at Tommy, telling him it was okay. A thought suddenly came to him. This was unlike Tommy. He was non-combative, for the first time ever, even when asking about the retirement. He looked at his brother intently, the younger man suddenly withdrawing into his seat, looking flustered.
“Why are you asking me about this, Tommy? Why the sudden interest in my retirement? I thought you were against it? You were, just last week. Why all these questions now?”
Tommy looked down at his beer bottle, his fingers suddenly busy peeling the label off it. Even in the dark, Joel could see his brother blush. His interest was peaked. He leaned forward.
“What are you not telling me, little brother?”
Tommy huffed a laugh, glee written all over his feature.
“I met someone,” he said simply, before smiling like some lovestruck idiot, covering his face with his hands, his shoulders shaking from laughing at himself.
Joel thought for sure he imagining things. His little brother, Tommy, the one who had never had a steady girlfriend, the one who slept with a different woman every other week, was in love?
“You remember my high school buddy Jimmy?”
Joel nodded. The boy who gave Tommy a ride to school in his old Jeep.
“Well, I ran into him. He lives in Boston now but was here to celebrate his Mom’s birthday.”
Joel mulled over that information for a while, waiting for Tommy to finish speaking. But the man stopped. Joel had to take a shot, seeing as the man was not showing any interest in continuing his story, distracted by the label on the beer bottle again.
“Okay, so… you’re with him now?” he asked, cautiously.
“What? No! He was having lunch with his sister, you remember Maria?”
Oh yeah… he remembered her… but wait…
“Didn’t you hate her growing up? Called her a leech or something?”
Maria was always hanging around Jimmy. Being the surprise baby, the only girl in the family, born ten years after Jimmy and his brothers, she didn’t really have anyone her age to hang out with in the neighbourhood. Jimmy and Tommy hated having her around, leaving her in the dust on their BMXs while she pedalled her tricycle as fast as she could after them, to no avail. She would go running back crying to tell on them every time they did, a punishment for not letting her hang out with them always following. Soon, Maria became a nightmare for the boys Tommy’s age in the neighbourhood. Their parents, his own included, would actually pay her to spy on the boys. She was hard to shake off too, just like a leech. The fact that she was leeching money off their parents for doing that was just the final thump of the gavel on the nickname, as far as everyone’s concerned.
Tommy laughed, “Guess what she does for a living now?” he asked.
Joel shrugged, curiosity peaking.
“She’s an insurance investigator.”
Joel stared at his brother for a split second before throwing his head back and laughing so hard he almost toppled over. Tommy joined him, clutching at his tummy, laughing so hard their stomachs hurt.
It took them a while to calm down, but Joel finally asked his brother.
“So, you’re dating her now? For real?”
Tommy shook his head, “Just a drink or two last week. We’ve mostly been calling and texting. She’s out of town right now.”
“A drink or two, no breakfast the morning after?” Joel asked, disbelieving.
Tommy huffed, shaking his head, shyly glancing at his brother. Joel almost choked on the sip he was taking.
“You haven’t slept with her?”
Tommy scratched the back of his neck, shaking his head, a silly, goofy smile on his face.
Wow. Like, wow. Wow.
“Are you gonna make fun of me?” he asked, warily.
Joel didn’t know what to say. Wow.
“I really like her, Joel. I’ve never felt like this about anyone. She’s smart, sweet, funny, I can’t stop thinking about her,” Tommy laughed at himself, aware that this was not how he worked. Ever. “I think I’m in love, and I haven’t even kissed her yet,” he confessed, looking at his big brother, eyes pleading that Joel didn’t laugh at him for his vulnerability. “I don’t even know if she liked me like that, but when I think about this time next year, I see her there. I think about ten years from now, I see her there. When you were talking about a white Christmas like the ones we had with Pops and Nana, I see her there. I want that with her. Always. She travels a lot for work, and all I could think of is, I want to stop all this, sell everything, so I could be with her. Go where she needs to go.”
Joel looked at his brother, speechless, a smile on his face.
“That’s why I’m asking about you. I’m wondering if your decision to retire had something to do with a lady. Cause retirement is extremely enticing right now for me, and it is everything to do with Maria.”
Joel gave his brother a small laugh, shaking his head, before downing the rest of his beer.
For the first time in a long time, the two talked into the night without bickering.
Tumblr media
Joel woke up the next morning to a brighter than usual room. It was almost eight. He shot up out of bed, going to the kitchen, finding Sarah and Ellie unpacking a bunch of food they had gotten.
“Morning sleepyhead,” Sarah cooed, giving her Dad a kiss. Ellie came and bumped his chest with her head, telling him they heard him and Tommy talking into the night, and therefore decided to give them both a break this morning. Tommy was still sleeping in the guestroom.
“We went to Lil’s truck to get you coffee but the line was long. We had already gotten the food, we didn’t want it to get cold,” Ellie said, looking apologetic.
“That’s okay kiddo, thanks for the thought,” he said, kissing the top of her head. He took the drip coffee he got the day before, and fiddled with the first packet, looking at the box for instructions, Sarah and Ellie fussing about to help him. The three of them somehow managed to figure it out, and Tommy walked out to find all three of them bent over, watching coffee drip out of the packet with bated breath. Once the mug was filled, Sarah took the packet off the mug and got rid of it, and she, Ellie and Tommy watched as Joel took the first sip, holding their breaths.
Their faces fell as Joel’s lips turned down a bit, his head wiggling side to side to tell them it was only okay, before taking another sip.
“Does Lil DoorDash? We could get it delivered?” Sarah asked. Ellie shook her head no.
“It’s okay, guys, this is fine. I’ll live,” Joel said, going to the island to eat.
“Who’s Lil?” Tommy asked.
“Lily, my boss at the coffee truck. She makes the best coffee. Joel loves them. We tried to get some this morning but the truck was busy.”
Tommy nodded, clearing his throat, “You know you could make good coffee yourself if you just buy…”
Joel’s eyes snapped up at his brother, shutting him up.
“Okay,” Tommy surrendered, eyes looking at the completely useless, ancient coffee machine sitting on the counter. “So, we leaving for the cabin today, or tomorrow?”
“Today,” Joel said, “We just need to get ice on the way,” he sipped on the coffee again. It’s good, really, it was. There’s just something missing. He needed to know what you put in your coffee. He had to find out. It must be the beans or something. He read that some people spray stuff on the coffee, some even mix in sugar or something or other, so that must be the missing link. He needed to figure it out. But for now, this drip coffee thing would have to do. Until Monday, this would have to do.
They piled everything they needed into his and Tommy’s trucks, Tommy telling them he needed to stop at his place to get something he forgot. He must have left them ready packed, it took him minutes to get it, placed it on the floor of his backseat and off they went. They arrived at the cabin just in time to set up and watch the sun go down as a family. They lazed by the fire that night, playing cards, roasting marshmallows and laughing at each other, with each other, just enjoying the time they had together.
Everyone generally woke up early when at the cabin, the sunrise was just too good to miss. Joel stayed at the spot later than everyone else, just wanting to enjoy the view a little longer. The quiet was too good to pass, in his opinion. So everyone went back to the cabin before him. He came back in to see Tommy and the girls standing in front of Tommy’s espresso maker, which apparently was the thing he went to pick up at his place. They placed the coffee – six shots of espressos – in front of Joel and waited for him to take a sip. Made from the finest beans, Tommy said, the beans were damned expensive too, he claimed.
Joel took a sip, and to the disappointment of the three, he made the same face he made with the drip coffee, thanking them for their effort. It’s good, he said, taking another sip before getting up to start breakfast.
Those few days were filled with just relaxing as a family, swimming in the lake, hiking, cooking, eating, just enjoying their time with each other. But every so often, Sarah and Ellie would watch as Joel sat alone looking out at the breathtaking view, wondering what he was thinking about. They had made the coffee for Joel in hopes that he would just perk up, seeing as he was so happy to get a good cup these two weeks. But that didn’t seem to work. He drank that coffee every morning they were at the cabin, seemingly satisfied with it, but according to Ellie, something was off.
Ellie didn’t get it. She watched you make coffee for Joel – there was nothing special about it. It was ground coffee, and hot water. That was it. That was what Tommy did, per her instruction. But his reaction to the coffee was nothing like the ones he had when he drank the coffee you made. Even Sarah seemed disappointed, and she had only seen his reaction once on that FaceTime on Monday. Sarah didn’t see anything different in Joel’s demeanour since her return, he was, as far as she was concerned, the same Dad she had always known, and to Tommy, he was the same old Joel. But Ellie saw a different Joel these past two weeks, and that Joel disappeared the day Sarah came back, although the other two couldn’t see the difference.
Sure, he seemed happy, or as happy as he could be before these past two weeks, but Ellie had seen how happy he could really get, and she wanted to see that happy man again. So did Sarah.
Tommy was curious, hearing Ellie talk about what a different man he was these past two weeks was like hearing about the boy he used to know as a kid. The boy who had disappeared and he hadn’t seen in forever. How happy. How smiley. How bouncy. How light. He begged the girls to show him the videos Sarah couldn’t stop referring to, but the girls didn’t want to show him, telling him there were other people involved in the videos, and they didn’t want to invade their privacies. As someone whose privacy was always tampered with, Tommy could understand, but his interest was really peaked.
So when they returned to LA, feeling refreshed from their long weekend at the cabin, Tommy decided to check this coffee out. The coffee that made his brother so happy, according to Ellie. He told Joel he wanted to come along to the rec centre, see if there was anything he could volunteer for during the remaining few weeks he had off, earning him a weirded out look from his older brother. But Joel relented, bringing Tommy with him that Monday when he took Ellie to the rec centre for class.
Tommy walked in with Ellie, supposedly to go meet the director of the rec centre, as Joel went to get his coffee. Ellie took him to the truck, hiding behind the nearest wall. The two watched as Joel approached the truck, looking jittery as fuck. “That’s Lil, that’s my boss,” Ellie whispered, pointing to you, who was standing outside with an older man, not talking to him, but smiling uncontrollably at him. The man just looked flustered, looking as if he was avoiding your teasing smiles, before going to clear the tables.
They watched as you clocked Joel’s presence, beaming at him, welcoming him back to the truck. They watched as the usually stoic Joel Miller got all smiley and light, nodding, saying “please” as you asked if he wanted his usual coffee. He greeted your Uncle Bill when you introduced them, enduring what seemed to be an overly tight handshake from the older man, before following you into the truck. They watched as he leaned against the counter, smiling and happily chatting with you as you made his coffee for him, his arms relaxed, hands placed on the counter on either side of him, as opposed to being across his chest when he talked to anyone who were not his family.
And Tommy watched disbelievingly as he saw his brother took a sip, his eyes closing, his head tilted back, his body relaxing, a dreamy smile on his face.
Okay, who the fuck was this man, and what had he done to his brother Joel?
And if an alien didn’t invade his brother’s body, that must be a damned good cup of coffee.
He needed to try that coffee. Like, now.
He said goodbye to Ellie and walked up to the window of the truck. As if some miraculous circus show was happening, he watched in horror as Joel took the apron off the hook by the door and put it on, tying it effortlessly behind his back.
His older brother’s face morphed into one of a deer being caught in headlights when he turned towards him with a beaming smile on his face, only to realize it was him, and not some random customer.
“Hello, Joel. I’ll have what you were having, please,” Tommy said, a teasing smile on his face.

Tumblr media
You watched your boyfriend of two years looking at his phone, scrolling mindlessly across whatever app he found more interesting than his girlfriend sitting on the other end of the couch. You were barely wearing anything, a large t-shirt barely covering the sexy lingerie you had put on for tonight.
“Jihoon, it’s been two months.”
You wanted him to notice you. He had barely been home at your shared apartment for weeks. You knew his work was demanding, and that he gave it his all no matter what. But you have been feeling neglected lately. He had been coming home late, crashing on the couch instead of sleeping in your bed. Only giving you a chaste kiss before running off to work the next morning with a groggy “Sorry I missed dinner last night,” as a greeting.
He hadn’t touched you in two months. You had counted the days, and after three weeks you were wondering if he wasn’t stressing too much about the latest album. After six weeks you had been feeling too horny for your own good, and your toys weren’t fulfilling your needs anymore. You wanted to feel him again. It didn’t matter how many times you came. It didn’t hit the spot. After two entire months of him being abstinent, you had begun getting snarky at the smallest things he did wrong.
Jihoon looked up from his phone at your statement. He carelessly scratched his chin, making your pussy clench at the memory of those perfect hands being all over your body once upon a time. “Two months? Of what?”
“Of you acting like a damn nun,” you said, dead serious.
“A nun?!” He gasped out.
“Yes! A nun!” You shouted back at him.
He looked you over, sitting at the other end of the couch, dolled up more than usual and staring at him as if he had offended yuo great grandmother by existing. Then it seemed to click in his mind. “Oh,” was all he said.
Two months? Had it been that long? He knew very well that he had been resisting his urges, but he had managed for two entire months? He had been so busy with the new album, he had been staying late at the studio every day and waking up rushing back to the studio to put the new ideas he got during the night into reality. Two months without sex, and a pissed off girlfriend because of it.
“I’m sorry?”
You looked at him like he was an equation, mouth open just a bit as you stared at him in shock. “You’re sorry? What the fuck does that mean?” He was so clueless, you thought as you watched the dumb face he was making. (You still wanted that stupid handsome face of his to eat you out until you cried, but that was besides the point.)
Jihoon knew he had fucked up, you were pissed off and picking a fight, and he hadn’t made it better by not even knowing that he hadn’t slept with you in two whole months.
“Do you even care? Because you don’t seem to care one bit about it since you didn’t even know! Do you not like me anymore? Are you not attracted to me anymore? Are you in love with someone else? Why the fuck would you go and cheat on me?!”
He stared at you in complete surprise. Cheating? “Hold up- hold up! What are you talking about?!” He said, flabbergasted at the way you seemed to have drawn the most far-fetched conclusions to this problem you could’ve possibly thought of. “I’ve been busy with the comeback! Please, baby, why are you acting crazy?”
He shouldn’t have said that, he knew it the second the word left his perfectly plump lips.
“Crazy? Did you just call me crazy? You haven’t seen crazy, you fucking asshole!” You shouted as you stormed out of the room. You were packing your bags, if he didn’t want to be with you anymore you wouldn’t be the one to stop him from moving on and sleeping with whoever else he wanted. Because it sure as hell wouldn’t be you after he had just called you crazy for noticing that he wasn’t interested in you anymore.
“What are you doing?? Why are you messing up the apartment? Are you leaving?” he shouted, seemingly surprised that you didn’t feel like staying in an apartment that he was hellbent on making a girlfriend-free zone.
“Yeah, I’m fucking leaving,” you grunt, shoving some shirts into your bag. You wouldn’t be able to grab it all but at least you could make it with the stuff you were throwing into it for a while. Y9ou could always borrow your friends’ stuff until you could get back all your clothes. “You’re pissing me off and I don’t wanna hate you.”
Jihoon was by the bedroom door now, hands pushing his hair out of his face as he watched you angrily packing your bags. How had he fucked up so badly that his girlfriend wanted to leave him like this?
“Hate me? Baby, I really don’t know what I did to mess up this bad…”
Of course, he didn’t understand, because apparently, your boyfriend was a freaking master at staying “pure”. He hadn’t even spent a single thought on you and what he could do with you. He only cared about his music. And you wouldn’t be the one to stand in his way if thats how he truly felt.
“You don’t know?! Look at me Jihoon!” You threw the t-shirt off your body in an angry fit, making your boyfriend’s eyes widen. “I’ve been waiting for you to notice me, to care even a bit about me- about us- for months!! And tonight, I just can’t do this anymore. I’m losing my mind because you won’t fuck me, how stupid is that?” You nearly sobbed as you made it clear that you were frustrated in more than one way. You were so mad at him, and still, you couldn’t help but admire the way he looked so hot even now, his long black hair falling in pretty curls around his face and his lips shiny and pink. He looked so kissable it was like he was teasing you just by existing.
“You got me all addicted to your cock and then you fucking left me to go through some kind of twisted withdrawal.”
He gulped, his adam's apple moving in his throat, you didn’t even care to look at him anymore, you were angrily throwing your shit into the bag on the bed yet again, bent over and flaunting the tiny piece of fabric that tried it’s best to cover your ass. “You don’t even care,” you rumbled as you stuffed more things into the bag. He took in the way the lace set hugged your curves deliciously, he had been so busy with everything he hadn’t even noticed his own cravings. He had ignored it all for so long.
“Shut up.”
His voice was deep, and commanding. Your breath caught in your throat, surprise and need mixing in an arousing blend that went straight to your head. “Excuse me?” Your movements paused completely. When you heard his footsteps approaching you hastily you looked at him, his gaze was darkened, and your core clenched around nothing as he pulled the bag from your grasp. Throwing it on the ground before he pushed your barely clothed body into the bed.
“You think I don’t fucking care anymore just because you haven’t gotten dick in a couple weeks? Are you that desperate to be stretched like a little whore?” He growled in your ear, his bulge evident in the way he pressed against your ass. “I care, and I see you. So shut up.”
You gasped at his harsh movements, neediness soaking your panties in record time. God, you were pathetic.
“I haven’t eaten, I haven’t slept, and I sure as hell haven’t let myself even think about this sweet pussy of yours. I’ve been denying myself it all. But you’re right…” his hand pressed against your throat where you laid face down on the bed, “I’ve been neglecting you. You wanna know why? It’s because I knew that if I so much as looked at you, or held you in my arms while you slept so innocently, I wouldn’t be able to help myself. I wouldn’t have been able to do anything but fuck your tight little pussy all day and night.” His growling voice set off all kinds of sparks in your core. You needed him, now.
You pushed your ass up against him, eating a groan from your boyfriend. “Such a little slut,” he mumbled, letting go of your throat and pulling himself back from you completely. You were dizzy from the hold around your throat, his perfect hands remembering just the way you liked to feel them around you. You were about to whine when his touch left your body when you heard the familiar shuffling of his clothes falling off his body. You wanted to see it, take his form in properly after all these weeks. But he was faster, pushing you back down against the bed before you got up.
His erection pressed against your heat, making you moan as he prodded against the soaked fabric covering your entrance.
“Jihoon, please,” you mewled, wiggling underneath his firm body.
“Wanna shut up and let me fuck you then since you’re so fucking needy?”
“Please, yes! Anything! Please fuck me!” You almost cried as you pleaded with him.
“Sobbing over cock, you really are such a dirty girl for me.” He groaned as he let his pretty hands smooth over one of your asscheeks, smacking down hard and leaving a burning sting after him. Even that felt good. You needed him more than you had ever needed anything in your life.
You felt him pull the sticky fabric from your core, pushing it aside in favor of pushing the head of his hard cock against your messy pussy. “I’m about to drown in you later tonight, just you wait.” He whispered before pushing past your entrance, slipping inside, your walls lubing his cock up as he entered. He ignored the way you were so tight it almost hurt to push all the way inside, your moaned pleas for him to go deeper, and the way you were gripping the sheets while he pushed all of himself inside of your dripping heat enough of a reason to push through. It had been so long since he had felt your walls gripping around him that he could’ve spilled his seed into you right then and there.
He pulled himself together soon enough, thrusting into you at a brutal pace. Your ass which you had pushed up to meet his hips at first had been completely overpowered by the sheer force he was fucking you into the mattress with. You were coming for the first time within minutes. Screaming and sobbing as you finally came around him. He continued, repeating to you what a good toy you were, and how good of a girl you had been for holding out for him this long.
When you were moaning again, closing in on a second orgasm he told you to come again. Lifting your ass up to balance you on your knees and chest, one of his arms wrapping around your hip to reach your clit, pressing down on it while he let his cock slip in and out effortlessly. Your arousal dripped down your thighs. You came undone and sobbed as he continued to overstimulate your abused cunt.
He continued fucking you until he couldn’t take it anymore, his own orgasm crashing into him with such force it knocked the breath from his lungs.
“That was one hell of an apology,” you said, breathless and still leaking cum, exhausted after having all your pent-up frustrations released all at once like this.
Jihoon chuckled, a sound you had missed these past weeks as well. He really had been unusually absent in your life. It wasn’t just about the sex, you had missed him a lot. “I’m sorry for not being around as much,” he said, dragging a gentle hand over your back. You hadn’t had the energy to move a once from the position he had dropped your hips from once he had pulled out.
“I just missed you, I’m sorry for lashing out.”
“Don’t worry about it, just… next time you should just ask me to fuck you instead of threatening to leave me.”
You were embarrassed now, you had acted like a complete maniac, but my god - if that’s how he fucked a maniac, you wanted to stay crazy for the rest of eternity.

Behold: ADHD
Me: It's time for me to go to bed but I'm going to tour behind the scenes at a theatre tomorrow as research for a story but I can't quite remember the times. Or which theatre it is. In fact I'm only 70% sure it's even tomorrow. So I should check the email.
*checks my email inbox*
Oh neat there's an email in here inviting me to submit a 30 second trailer of my game for a showcase. I don't have a 30 second trailer but I have a 90 second one that's nearly finished I could trim down...
TWO HOURS LATER
Yay, I have done the trailer! I encountered a few hurdles along the way but now it's done. Let me upload it and reply back to the email. Good job.
*heads to bed*
Waitaminute
*checks email again*
Ok so the tour is uh... quite early, and I have now stayed up quite late to make that trailer, but if I fall asleep RIGHT NOW I'll get seven hours sleep and on the whole that's not bed.
*Ten minutes later*
Tumblr must know all about about this funny and relatable experience teehee

Ok yay someone who writes for husk!
So could you(if you don't wanna that's fine)
Do an x reader for husk where the reader works at the bar with him
I'm so new to the fandom, people don't write for him? Don't worry, I'm here to save the day!
This is kind of a ficlet, I could write a sequel if anyone is interested, left it somewhat open ended.
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
Actions speak louder
Give a beer glass a scrub, rinse, pass it to Husk so he can dry it up and then repeat; check the counter for stray stains, then wipe it down with a cloth dampened with dish soap and warm water in case there’s any; mix the occasional cocktail, wishing you’d be the one downing it on some days.
This is how most of your time is spent at the Hotel, working behind the counter of the bar with grumpy Husk, filling your days with repetitive tasks you were used to even before ending up in Hell. You’re comfortable here, some might even say it’s your own element.
You remember what it was like during your life, working at the bar, and the only word worthy of describing the experience would be ‘boring’. Chaotic on some particular days, yes, but it was mostly dull as your co-workers were a bit too accustomed to leaving all the hard work to you.
At the Hotel though, you find it almost therapeutic. Not too many residents, and you get along with the few that are there, plus it means no constant drink making nor cleaning; although the personality of your only co-worker is what you find most pleasing about this job.
There’s no use for useless small talk between the two of you, you’ve grown accustomed to each other enough that silence is well accepted during most of the day, and especially at night. It’s not rare for both of you to stay up late, anxiously waiting for the return of one of the other residents of the building, Angel Dust.
There’s no hiding that he struggles a lot, and you and Husk can do nothing but be there for him, unfortunately.
But once even he’s off to bed, you can finally give the bar one last quick clean and close it up together. And so again, give Angel’s glass a scrub, rinse, and then pass it to Husk so he can dry it up and put it away; he takes up the task of checking for stains on the counter and cleaning them up, telling you to hurry up and go to sleep.
You refuse, and say you need to tidy up the glasses one last time, something looks out of order.
It’s not true though, but you can’t simply say you’re waiting for him, surely that would make things between you a little awkward.
Which is why you’re surprised when you feel a light pressure on your back; Husk is shorter than you, shorter than most at the Hotel actually, and there seems to be nobody else around, so the only possible explanation for the pressure you’re feeling in the middle of your back is, well, your co-worker.
Relaxing into his touch you let out a soft sigh;
“Turning into a softie?” you say it mostly to cover up your shyness, glad he’s facing your back so he’s unable to see the tint of your cheeks.
“Shut up.” He retorts, voice low and tired.
The dim lights of the bar are soon after turned off, and a slow, drowsy kiss is shared on the top of the stairs leading to the various rooms of the Hotel. You and Husk depart for the night, both excited to scrub, rinse and repeat with each other tomorrow, though with newfound unanswered questions this time.

Camp Wiegman - Part 1
Lucy Bronze x Ona Batlle
Tumblr media
Alternate Universe : Military School
Summary : Ona has to leave Barcelona against her will because her mother decided to sent her to a school in Manchester.
Words : 4k
Masterlist
———————————————————————
Monday, October 5; 6:45 AM - Home.
« Get up, Onii!!! »
I jump when a little bundle pounces on me, screaming. I groan into my pillow as he laughs in my ears before getting off my back. I turn over as quickly as possible to catch him before he runs away. The surprise rings in my ears even before his shrill scream, but I don't let go of him.
« Joan... » I begin in the calmest voice I can manage. « How many times have I asked you not to wake me up like this? »
« Mmmmmh... »he pretends to think. « I don't remember! »
« You'll see! »
A mix of cries and laughter fills the room as I attack him with tickles along his ribs. He tries to struggle, but I'm far too strong for him.
« St-stop », he says between laughs. « P-Please... Oniii! »
« Ona, let go of your little brother. He'll be late otherwise! » my mother reprimands me as she passes by my bedroom door.
« You're lucky this time! »
I release him and get out of bed to go to my closet. I sigh when I see that a large number of clothes are missing.
« Are you taking me to school this morning? »
I turn around to see my little brother watching me from the edge of the bed where he's sitting. He's so innocent. He makes me want to go back to when I was his age. Everything was simpler. It's rather ironic, considering he keeps telling me he wishes he were as big as I am. My many discussions about my departure don't seem to have sunk in, given his question. I'm afraid he'll hold it against me over time, as this isn't the first time I've left home. I approach him, crouching down to his level. His doe eyes and sad expression don't make it any easier to say what I need to, but I go ahead anyway.
« Joan... » We've already talked about this. You know it's not possible.
« But I don't want you to leave! » he raises his voice. « You just got back... »
I tense up when he lowers his head to hide his sorrow from me. I feel so guilty for causing him so much pain. He doesn't deserve to be caught up in all this mess. I gently stroke his cheek to encourage him to lift his head.
He makes a pout that could melt anyone's heart, mine first and foremost.
« I'm sorry, little heart... I'm really sorry for putting you through all this. You know that if I could stay, I would. You know that, right? »
« I don't want you to leave! » he shouts again. « Stay, please. »
Now he's crying, which only makes me feel worse. His tears bring tears to my own eyes. I hold him as tightly as I can and stroke his hair to soothe his sadness.
Joan is undeniably my weakness in all this. I feel so guilty about leaving again. I have to stay strong and hide my feelings to avoid making his reaction worse. If it were up to me, I would stay. I resent my mother for sending me to that damn school thousands of miles away. It cuts me off from the few loved ones I have left.
« When will you come back? »
« I have no idea », I shrug. « We'll see. Anyway, I'll call you regularly. »
« Promise? »
« Of course, if I'm allowed to, I will. »
« Is it very strict there? »
If there's one thing I don't like about kids, it's their curiosity. They just keep asking questions and can ask the same one ten times to get an answer. It's not so bad, but in my situation, it's annoying because I don't have the answers myself. He just reminds me why I've been stressed all week since the news broke.
« Well, you know what? » I change the subject. « If we hurry, I'll try to negotiate with Mom to take you to school before I leave. »
« Really? » He smiles with all his teeth.
« Of course! I just have to make sure I don't miss my flight. If we leave a bit earlier, I can drop you off before going to the airport. »
« YAY! »
I laugh at his excitement. I help him get dressed so he can quickly head downstairs. His departure allows me to clean up his mess and get myself ready more peacefully. Fifteen minutes later, I join him downstairs.
Dressed and with makeup on. I find him in the large dining room talking with his father and our mother. I don't bother to stop and head straight to the kitchen. I sit on a high chair behind the bar that faces the kitchen. I smile when I see a cup of hot chocolate and a freshly prepared pastry waiting for me.
« Good morning, Sam. »
« Oh, hi Ona. »
He moves to the counter so we can be face-to-face and chat while I enjoy my breakfast. I've had this habit since... well, since he started working here, to be honest. Samuel has been our cook for a few years now. We're almost the same age, give or take five years. His dishes are truly outstanding. I'll really miss them. They say the food in boarding schools isn't very good.
« So, you'll take me to school then? »
« What's this about now? » asks my mother, entering the room with Joan.
« I told him I'd drop him off if we leave a bit earlier. »
« Did you really have to tell him that? » she snaps.
« It's the last time I'll see him for a long time, you could make an effort. »
I maintain my gaze firmly. She eventually capitulates with a sigh. I suppress a smile that could change her mind. I always win when it comes to staring contests. I'm proud to have irritated her, but even more proud to have won.
« Fine, hurry up then. »
« Yay! »
My brother knows how to lighten the mood. I take a sip from my cup to hide my amusement as he dashes out of the kitchen, with my mother chasing after him, yelling to be careful on the stairs.
« Tough leaving, huh? » asks Sam.
« Not really. The hardest part is leaving Joan. Take care of him for me, please. »
« Don't worry about that. He'll be fine, unlike you », he says through gritted teeth.
« I'll be fine too », I assure him.
« I hope so. It would be nice to see you alive again », he jokes.
I roll my eyes with a smirk. We've always had a good relationship. At first, I even thought he had a thing for me. I realized it was a mistake later when I found out he was dating this guy named Paolo. I had a good laugh. As a lesbian I was surprised that Samuel was gay too.
« Shall we go, Oni ? »
I turn to Joan, who has returned with his backpack on. The time for goodbyes has come. I smile at my brother and get up to put my empty cup in the sink. Then, I walk over to Sam and give him a tight hug.
"It's all going to be okay, you'll see," he reassures me.
"I'll try to call. Can you put Joan on when you get the chance?" I ask.
"Promise. I really hate goodbyes," he adds, pulling me back into his embrace.
I laugh, playfully tapping his shoulder when I notice his teary eyes. It's touching since I've never seen him cry. I leave before I end up in the same state. I miss Sofia, my governess, who has a day off today. I said goodbye to her yesterday, but it's not the same. She's a bit like my second mom. She always knew how to lend a listening ear when I needed it. I go up to my room to check that I haven't forgotten anything. I also stop by the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I'm sure everything's in order, I put on my jacket, grab my bag, and take one last look at my room. It's time to leave if I want to take Joan to school, so I head down the stairs without rushing.
Hector has put your suitcase in the trunk," my mother informs me as she waits. "Do you have your ticket? »
"Yeah," I reply, patting my pockets to double-check.
"A taxi will drop you off at the school."
I half-listen to my mother's final instructions about my arrival at my new life. I look up when I realize she's wrapping up her verbose explanations, which I could have done without.
"Are you going to be okay?" she finally asks.
« Does it really matter to you?" I retort rhetorically, brushing past her to reach the entrance. She sighs behind me as I open the door. It's all her fault anyway. I look at the cobblestone driveway where the car is already prepared with Joan inside. I greet Hector, our driver, who is standing nearby. I descend the stairs and glance to my left at our garden where Marcus is. I give him a small nod. Asshole. He's my mother's boyfriend. He's not entirely to blame, but I've never been able to like him. I avoid looking back at the landing where my mother might play the model mom, waving me off as if I'm going on vacation. I've never liked formalities, so I head to the front seat of the car. Hector has long stopped making remarks about it. He settles in beside me and pulls into traffic once the gate opens. I watch the house recede in the rearview mirror. Here we go... We're on our way. Before starting my new life, we make a stop at Joan's school. Hector wishes him a good day as I step out to walk him to the gate. The hardest moment arrives... I crouch down to his level. He immediately wraps his little arms around me for a hug.
"I don't want you to go," he says softly.
"Look at me, Joan," I ask gently, lifting his chin. "It's going to be okay, alright? I'll come back, don't worry."
"Will you think about me a lot?"
"I'll do nothing else."
"Will you call me?"
"If I'm allowed, I will. I promised you, little one," I say, touching his nose with my finger. "Sam and Sofia will pass you the phone if it's me."
"I'll miss you."
He hugs me again, and I squeeze him as tightly as I can. I kiss his forehead before helping him with his backpack.
"I love you, Ona!"
"I love you too, sweetheart! Now, go play with your friends."
He runs off to join them. I wait until he looks back to wave at him with a smile. I make sure not to show any emotion so that at least one of us is reassured. I turn around when I'm no longer the center of his attention and settle back into the car. Hector starts driving towards the airport without saying a word. Everyone knows these are the toughest goodbyes for me.
"Are you okay?" he asks, handing me a tissue.
I hadn't even realized I was crying. I nod and smile gratefully as I take the tissue. The journey lasts half an hour to reach the airport. I have plenty of time to check in my luggage and go through security before the flight. Hector insisted on accompanying me the whole way, despite my repeated assurances that he didn't need to stay, though I appreciate his presence. Boarding time arrives quickly, and we head there after passing all the checks.
"We'll take care of Joan, don't worry," he tries to reassure me.
"Thank you."
"He's a big boy now, you know."
"Yes, he's grown up so much," I reply with a faint smile.
The intercom interrupts, announcing the boarding call. I turn to my driver, whom I've always appreciated. He's in his forties, but we've always had a special bond. He smiles tenderly, and we share a hug. I take the opportunity to thank him for everything before joining the line that has formed. I teased Sam about his state earlier, but I'm not much better at the moment. At the end of the line, I present my ticket to a hostess who tears off a portion. A security guard beside her checks my navy blue Eastpack once more, then they wish me a safe journey... "Safe journey," my ass, yeah. I move forward without a word for boarding. A second hostess welcomes me onto the plane and helps me find my seat number. Luck seems to be on my side for once. I have a window seat, and my neighbor who arrives shortly after me is an elderly lady. I'll have peace and quiet for the entire journey. I switch my phone to airplane mode. I put my headphone on. Music will help me sleep since I have two hours to kill. I start my music just as the intercom instructs us to fasten our seatbelts because takeoff is imminent. Indeed, a few minutes later, we're airborne. I watch our ascent through the window with a thoughtful expression. "Hasta la vista Barcelona... Hello Manchester !"
Monday, October 5th; 10:25 - Manchester Airport.
Damn it... Not only did I forget about the time difference, but I also forgot about the temperature change here! I'm finally in my taxi after taking some time to find my driver with his tiny sign. We're now stuck in monstrous traffic. The scenery is different from Barcelona. I'm going to miss my city more than I thought. I put my headphones back on just as my driver announced that we still have a way to go. He explained that the school is located away from the city center, but right now, we're stuck in the middle of it. We just need to manage to get out. Given the traffic jams, I have more time ahead of me. I could have done without it, considering how my imagination has come back in full force. I know nothing about the school she's sending me to. As if what I went through wasn't enough. Something like this had to happen to me again.
I hate having to listen to my mother and do everything she says. I'll be twenty in a few days and I still have to do as she pleases. If I hadn't messed up, I might already have a job by now. Now, here I am stuck on the other side of the Europe, with no one. Thanks, Mom, thanks a lot! My stress level shoots up again, though it had subsided thanks to my nap on the plane. I managed to catch up on my sleep. Nothing can change now. I'm here, and it will be difficult to turn back. The driver tries to make conversation, but he understands it's a lost cause. I can be a real wall when I want to be. He seems relieved to have finally arrived after forty-five minutes on the road. We would have certainly taken less time without the traffic jams. I get out of the car while the driver takes care of my suitcase. There are no buildings here, just a few houses around and even then. I didn't see any bus stops either, which I don't like too much.
The driver told me it was impossible for him to go any further. I understand why now, seeing what's in front of me. A huge, very impressive metal gate blocks the road. OK, what is this place? It's surrounded by an impenetrable high brown stone wall. It might have had its charm in another context. I feel like I'm standing in front of a prison entrance. I read the sign proudly standing above the gate: Camp Wiegman. What the hell is this mess? A camp? I wanted to ask the driver if he had the wrong place, but he was already gone. What an asshole! He better hope I don't run into him again next time! I groan in frustration and resign myself to dragging my feet and my suitcase towards the reception. A woman in her fifties is there, with glasses dangling on her nose. She looks up and smiles warmly at me. At least I'm not dealing with an old hag.
"Hello. You must be the new one, right?"
"I guess. Ona Batlle," I introduced myself.
"That's right," she said, looking at a sheet. "Come in, I'll notify them of your arrival!"
A door next to the large gray gate opens. I push it and roll my suitcase inside. Surprisingly, the taxi wasn't wrong after all. This place is huge from what I can see. I don't know where to look, it's quite... breathtaking. I don't dare move, not knowing where to go. The door is now closed behind me, preventing me from getting out. I wait a few minutes, and still, no one comes. The receptionist smiles at me every time I look at her. I guess someone will come to get me.
"Welcome to Camp Wiegman, Ona!"
I jump and turn toward the voice. A blonde woman stands before me. She has glasses and smile at me. I frown as I shake the hand she offers me. The only question that comes to mind is: Who is she?She must have understood.
"Excuse me, I haven't introduced myself! I’m Marina Wiegman, the director of this camp."
"Why does that name sound familiar?"
"I'm a friend of your parents" he explains.
"Oh."
I can't manage to say anything else. They've put me in a damn camp run by their friend. Great! This is getting worse and worse! This whole situation reeks of trouble.
"Follow me, I'll give you a quick tour of the place."
She orders me to leave my luggage, saying someone will take care of it. So, I leave my suitcase but keep my backpack. We walk down the large tree-lined avenue. It looks like a beautiful place... until you see what's hidden inside. I wasn't wrong. This place is gigantic! I can't see the end because of the buildings in front of us, but the horizon is already impressive. We take a left where I can see two fields in the distance surrounded by perfectly maintained grass. As we get closer, I spot a macadam field and a grass field, both fenced. Next to that, there’s a huge brand-new gymnasium. We don't go inside, but she indicates there are several rooms that I'll discover over time. We continue the tour in the first building on the left. It’s attached to the central building. This one houses the various classrooms, according to her. There’s another similar building just behind, connected by covered walkways. They don't seem big, only having one small floor each. One thing is for sure, the decoration is far from warm. Everything is as cold as the weather outside. It's raining, by the way. I already miss the sun I left behind in Barcelona. All the buildings are made of gray bricks. The only place that seems less gloomy is the new gymnasium. We exit through the back of the second building after a short passage and continue to the right. We pass the cafeteria, then the dormitories which are at the other end. She indicates that the staff dormitory is behind the student one. We complete our loop by returning to the central building. It’s the heart of the place and houses the administration. It looks very large. The upper floor must be her personal quarters. We continue inside where we are greeted by a hall before accessing the offices. We pass through a door with a sign indicating the secretariat. We walk down a long corridor with several doors labeled with names, most of them closed. We finally reach her office at the end. She invites me to sit on a chair, which I do without hesitation.
"I'm sorry I could only stop by briefly, but work keeps me very busy."
"No problem."
"Alright, let's get to the point. Did your mother explain anything to you?"
"Not really," I replied honestly. "Just that I'd be here for a long time."
"I see," she said. "I've been informed about your issues. Do I have your permission to share this information with the staff?"
"I'd prefer you didn't."
"As you wish. Do you know it's usually hard to get into this kind of camp?"
"Believe me, if I could have avoided it, I wouldn't be here," I retorted.
"Many applications were rejected this year. I shouldn't even be taking on another person in the middle of the year. You should see this as an opportunity! Your mother contacted me. I owed her a favor, so I reconsidered your application after someone left."
"I could have done without it," I muttered.
"We are a strict establishment," she continued, ignoring my comment. "We have clear rules that must not be broken under penalty of sanctions."
"Hmm."
"We are a half-university, half-military camp."
I sat up straight. Did I hear that correctly?! Military? This has to be a joke! She frowned as I laughed.
"What's so funny, Ona?"
"Military, seriously?" I laughed even harder.
"Military, indeed," she confirmed. "Well, it's a big word. You simply have the right to supervision and guidance by instructors alongside your classes. We are a special private educational institution."
"Didn't see that coming."
I hate her. There's no other word. Sending me to a place like this?! Does she want to turn me into a little soldier or what? If she thinks I'm going to go along with this, she's dreaming! I can already tell I'm going to have fun driving them crazy. They'll get so fed up with me that they'll send me back themselves.
"Since you're just starting, you'll be under the responsibility of an instructor for a while," she informed me. "This person is the one you should listen to first. They will help you adapt, guide you, and discipline you if necessary."
"Yeah, yeah."
I couldn’t care less about what she has to say now. I've been tuning out since she mentioned it's a military school. I did catch that all devices are banned in the camp except in the rooms. Phones included. Great! Well, at least I can use it in the room I'll have the pleasure of sharing with a roommate. It won't change much; I'll act as if I'm alone. I don't plan on staying here, so I'll make sure not to get attached. The best thing would be to leave as quickly as I arrived. She finishes by giving me my class assignment. Wait, they have classes here?! Surprising for this kind of school. She hands me a paper with my schedule and the names of my teachers. I don't even bother to glance at it. I don't know anyone anyway. Wiegman's monologue is interrupted by a noise at the door. A young girl enters after getting permission. She introduce herself as Lotte Wubben-Moy the adoptive daughter of the director Wiegman.
"Lotte will show you to your room in the dormitory. Once again, welcome, Ona. I hope I won't have to see you in my office anytime soon!"
"Yeah, thanks."
I leave the office, ignoring the hand Lotte extends. I wait for her in the hallway while she quickly says goodbye to her mother and closes the door. She leads the way since I don't know the place well yet.
"Your name is Ona, right?"
"Yeah."
"Did you have a good trip?"
"Don't bother trying to make conversation"
Her face falls at my harsh and curt tone. At least she understands not to talk to me. I'm furious with my mother. How could she send me to a military camp! I can't swallow it. It doesn’t even make sense! I now understand why she didn't give me any information about where she was sending me. She just handed me a ticket and said I was leaving home. If I had known, I wouldn't have even gotten on that damned plane. Then again, maybe I would have. She didn't give me much choice. It was either this or she would cut me off and throw me out on the street. That was clear. I don’t know if she would have actually done it, but I didn’t want to take the risk.
We walk along the outside to reach the right side. We arrive at the dormitory I saw earlier. It's larger than the classroom building we visited before. It has three stories. We pass through wooden doors. I'm surprised by the interior. It's a bit cheerier than what I've seen so far since arriving. We're greeted in the hall by a large wooden staircase that leads in two opposite directions. We go up and take a right. Lotte explains that the dormitory is divided into two sections. We stop on the first floor where we reach a long corridor. There are two more floors, but they are for the first and second-year students. I'm surprised she still dares to talk to me after I so harshly rebuffed her. She stops her explanations when we stop in front of room 19. From what I've observed, the even-numbered rooms are on the right and the odd-numbered ones are opposite. She steps aside to let me enter first. The room is nothing special. It has the bare minimum. Two single beds dominate the middle of the room, each with a two-drawer nightstand next to it. A lamp and a clock radio sit on top. On the other side of the bed, two wardrobes face each other. The one at the far end is next to a window, the only source of natural light. Finally, there are two desks at the foot of each bed. There's just enough space to pass between each piece of furniture. I open the only other door next to the entrance to discover a bathroom that is also nothing special. Surprisingly, it’s rather modern. It has a shower, a small sink with an extended countertop, and a mirror above. There’s also a toilet and a laundry basket. I close the door and move into the room with white walls. There's no decoration, so it still feels rather cold, once again.
"Well, here you are," she breaks the silence. "Your suitcase is already here, as you can see. I'm going back to my room. If you need anything, come see me. I'm in room 3, first floor."
"I'll be fine, thanks."
She nods before closing the door behind her. I sigh, looking around the room. What am I doing here? I have to survive a year. A fucking year that I plan to cut short. They don’t know who I am, but they will soon. My name is going to be known to the staff very quickly. If I understood correctly, I'm free for the rest of the day. I pull out my iPod from my pocket and check my phone. I must have sent a message to my mother when I got off the plane. I'm relieved to see she hasn't replied. She would have faced my wrath, and this time, I’ll have trouble holding it back.
My suitcase is at the far end of the room, right under the window. I guess that’s my side. I check by opening the first wardrobe. I close it immediately upon finding it full and lie down on the bed at the back. I would have chosen this one if I had the choice. I like having the window on my side, even though I doubt it will be of much use given the weather outside. I grab my bag to get something to eat. I’m glad I thought to bring snacks. Given the time, I would have been starving until dinner since I didn't eat lunch. I then slip my headphones into my ears. I use this quiet time to gather myself, staring pensively at the ceiling. I still can’t believe where I am. A military camp. This is going to be interesting... depending on your point of view, of course!

Bedtime Stories|| Joe Burrow x reader
Tumblr media
•pairing: Joe Burrow x reader
•prompt #71: “and that’s how daddy got mommy to marry him” (this is from my wattpad NFL imagines)
•summary: Your daughter wants a bedtime story before she goes to bed, so Joe decides to tell her the story of how he proposed to you
•warnings: Children, pregnancy, so much fluff🤍 dad joe is my absolute favorite
"Alright Josie Lee, time for bed." You said to your four year old daughter, who was currently coloring a picture of a tiger.
"But mommy," she looked up at you, pushing out her bottom lip in a pout, "can I please finish this picture for daddy?"
You sighed, brushing your fingers through your daughters dark blonde hair. “Be quick." you said, smiling at her.
She squealed, "Yay! Thanks mommy, you the best."
She went back to coloring the tiger, careful not to color outside the lines. You smiled as you watched her. You decided to fold some laundry before you had to put Josie to bed. As you were folding bath towels you heard a squeal come from the kitchen.
"Daddy!" Josie squealed. Joe started to tickle her little sides, making the little girl giggle uncontrollably. You couldn't help the smile that appeared on your face as you listened to your little girls giggle. You put down the towel you just folded and walked back into the kitchen. The sight in front of you made your heart swell with love.
"I love your tiger baby girl, she is very cute."
"It's not a she daddy, it's a boy!"
Joe put his hands up in defense, "Oh! Sorry, sorry, forgive me."
She giggled, "I forgive you daddy. Look!" She held up the paper showing him the drawing. "He's wearing your jersey."
Joe gushed, "Oh my goodness, look at that! He’s wearing a number nine jersey like daddy.”
"His name is Joey."
Joe kissed her forehead, "I love it, Josie girl."
She smiled, reaching out to hug Joe, "Thanks daddy. I love you."
"Oh I love you more."
You walked over to both of them, wrapping an arm around Joe and an arm around Josie. "And mommy loves you two the most."
Joe leaned down and kissed your temple, squeezing you softly.
"What about baby sister?" Josie asked, her mouth gaped open, “don't you love her too!?
You placed your hands on your belly, rubbing your bump. You and Joe were expecting another baby girl in the early fall. In just a few short months your little family of three, would soon become four. Joe was meant to be a girl dad, and adding another little girl into his life made him so happy. "Of course I love baby sister." You said, a slight frown on your face as you ran a hand through Josie’s hair. Josie smiled and put her small hands on your bump, rubbing it, softly, “I love her too."
"Me three." Joe said, placing his veiny hand on the center of your belly. You smiled, putting yours on top of his. "Are you ready for bed now Josie?"
She frowned, "Can I make a picture for Uncle Sammy? I think he'd want a Joey tiger, but with his number instead."
Joe smiled, "I think he would too. But," he picked her up from the barstool, making her giggle, "you can make him one tomorrow, okay? It's getting late sweetheart."
She nodded, her little ocean blue eyes lighting up as she looked at her father, "Otay daddy." Joe smiled at his daughter as he set her down on the ground, "You lead the way princess."
Josie ran out of the kitchen and up the stairs to her bedroom. Joe held his hand out to you, "Come on Mama, let's go put the princess to bed so you, me, and the little one can watch another episode of Yellowstone."
You chuckled, taking his hand, "Sounds good to me. Lead the way, daddy."
Joe wiggled his eyebrows, "Oh, maybe we should save Yellowstone for another night."
You shook your head, "No, no. I love you, but I can't, I'm too huge." You said as you gestured to your six month protruding baby bump. Joe wrapped his arm around your waist, supporting your belly as both of you walked up the stairs. "You're not huge baby, you look sexy. Even more sexier now that you're carrying my baby, again."
You couldn't help but blush at his comment. You shook your head at your husband and continued to walk up the stairs. Once both of you were upstairs, you went into your daughters room. She was laying in bed, patiently waiting for you and Joe to tuck her in. "Alright peanut," Joe sighed as he sat on the edge of her bed. Josie smiled and laid down in her pink sheets. Joe pulled the soft pink cover over her little body. She snuggled further under the blankets, smiling up at her daddy. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, "I love you Josie."
She leaned up and kissed Joe on the tip of his nose, "I love you daddy. Can you tell me a story?" she pouted her little pink lips, "I'm not sleepy yet."
Joe glanced over at you before turning back to Josie, "A story huh?"
You smiled, climbing into bed next to Joe's mini me. You wrapped your arm around Josie and she immediately snuggled into you. She placed her small hand on your belly, hoping to feel her little sisters kicks. "Yeah daddy, tell us a story." you said, your smile widening as you saw Josie's excitement when she felt a kick to her little hand. Joe smiled and got off the bed. He grabbed Josie's unicorn beanbag that sat in the corner of her room, and placed it down next to her bed, plopping himself into it.
"Get comfy ladies, this could be a long one."
Josie looked up at you and smiled. You squeezed her gently and scrunched your nose. Both of you turned your attention back to Joe as he began telling a story.
"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young woman named Y/n."
Josie gasped, "Like mommy?!"
Joe couldn't help but chuckle, "Yes, like mommy." He continued his story, "So Y/n, this beautiful woman, was dating a man named Joe."
She gasped again, "Like daddy?!"
You laughed, "Yes, like daddy."
Joe just smiled at you before continuing, "Joe and Y/n had been dating for four years."
"That's as old as me!" Josie whispered in shock. You and Joe chuckled at your daughters reaction. She was going to have a comment to make about every part of the story, and you and Joe loved it. "Now, Joe knew as soon as he met Y/n that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. But Y/n was too good for little ol' Joe." Josie giggled, making a smile grace Joe's features. His baby girls laugh never failed to put a smile on his face. "But Joe got the courage to ask out the pretty lady, and to his surprise she said, 'why of course i'll go out with you!' That made Joe very happy."
You laughed lightly as Joe told a dramatic story of how the two of you met years ago during your time at LSU. If anything, you were the one that thought Joe was too good for you. But boy did he prove you wrong. And you definitely didn't say "why of course i'll go out with you".
"So Joe and Y/n went out on a date. He took her to his favorite places in Baton Rouge, the city they met, and they had their first kiss right in front of the ice cream shop. The first date turned into a second date, and the second date turned into a third, until eventually Joe asked Y/n to be his girlfriend."
"What did she say?" Josie asked, her small voice full of curiosity as she sat up in your embrace. "She said yes, of course!" Joe exclaimed, making you giggle softly. Josie smiled and nodded, "Good." She laid back in bed once again and listened to her father continue his bedtime story.
"And as the years went on, the two of them were so in love with each other. Joe picked out a ring, but not just any ring, an engagement ring. With a gold band and three small diamonds. It was beautiful, just like his Y/n." Joe looked up at you with a smile as he spoke, his blue eyes full of love, "He wanted to ask her to marry him, but he didn't know how. He knew it had to be special because Y/n deserved the best proposal ever. So, Joe asked some of this good friends from his old school, Nick and Sam-."
Before Joe could finish, Josie gasped, "Like Uncle Nick and Uncle Sam!?"
Joe nodded, laughing softly as he spoke, "Yup. Now, Nick and Sam had some ideas for Joe. Nick told Joe he should take her out to the same places they went to on their first date. Joe liked the idea, but it didn't stand out to him. Sam suggested he take Y/n on a trip somewhere with a beach, like Hawaii, and propose to her on the beach—which was one of her favorite places." It's true, the beach has always been one of your favorite places. "But that idea didn't stick out to him either. So Joe waited. He waited weeks, which turned into months, until the perfect moment came to propose to Y/n. Joe had just gotten the best news of his life, he was going to be a daddy. A daddy to the most beautiful little girl in the whole world."
Josie smiled up at you widely, making you squeeze her gently. She giggled and leaned in closer to you as she listened to her daddy finish the story.
"When Y/n told Joe they were having a baby, he was so excited! He couldn't wait to have a baby with the woman he loved so much. It was when Joe was hugging Y/n, with his hand placed gently on her belly just like this," he moved so he could place his hand on your baby bump. You placed your hand over his and smiled warmly at him. "That he knew he was going to propose to her, right there. And that's what he did. He got down on one knee and asked Y/n if she would marry him. Y/n started crying, which made Joe cry too."
"Why were they crying?" Josie asked, sadness lacing her small voice.
"Because they were happy. They were so, so happy. Y/n said 'yes' and Joe swore his heart grew ten times bigger that day. He was going to marry the most beautiful woman in the world, and soon he was going to be a daddy to the most beautiful girl in the world. His Josie Lee."
Josie sat up abruptly, her jaw dropping open, "Josie!? That's me!"
You laughed, rubbing your daughters back, "You're right Josie, that is you." Joe smiled as he stood up from the bean bag. "And that, that was the story of how daddy got mommy to marry him."
"I knew it!" Josie smiled, pointing her small index finger at Joe. The three of you laughed, happily. "That was a good story daddy."
"It was, wasn't it?" Joe asked, reaching out to grab your hand as you both smiled. The story of yours and Sams relationship never gets old.
You sighed, "It's one of mommy's favorites. But it's getting late peanut," you tucked a strand of Josies dark blonde hair behind her ear, "you need to go to bed so you can draw a tiger for Uncle Sam in the morning." Josie squealed, "Yes! Can you tuck me in now so it can be morning soon?" she asked in her sweet little voice.
Joe chuckled, "I like the way you think." You rolled out of the bed and walked, well more like waddled, over to the other side of Josie's bed. Joe pulled the covers over her body, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "I love you Josie. Sleep tight, peanut."
She smiled, grabbing her tiger stuffed animal and snuggling it close to her. "I love you daddy." Joe stepped away so you could say goodnight to your daughter. "Goodnight my love." You kissed her forehead. She leaned over and kissed your belly. "Goodnight mommy. Goodnight baby sister. I love you." You smiled warmly. "I love you more peanut."
Josie laid back down and closed her eyes. You turned her bedroom light off and walked out of her room, closing the door behind you and Joe. He grabbed your hand, squeezing it gently. "You still up for some Yellowstone?" You nodded, "As long as you'll rub my feet and feed me ice cream?" Joe chuckled and placed a chaste kiss to your lips. "Of course, anything for my girls."
You were the luckiest woman in the world. Joe Burrow was truly the best husband (and daddy) ever.

Schnarkos, Schnarkos!
Nora: So, how's that new boyfriend of yours, P-Money- ACK! COUGH! COUGH!
Pyrrha: He's perfect! He hasn't cheated on me once!
Jaune: That's correct! I would never do anything to violate the sanctity of our relationship!
--------------------------------------------------
Weiss: (Sighs) Look at this absolute mess of a meal... I wouldn't eat a single bite...
Weiss: BUT I made it special for you because I wanted to test your love~!
Jaune: Oh, Brothers help me... My other girlfriend is trying to kill me!
Weiss: THE BROTHERS AREN'T HERE RIGHT NOW, but you can leave a message~!
Jaune: (Eats) Mm... It's not that bad. But why do I feel like this is a trap?
Weiss: Because I'm planning to steal you away from Pyrrha with my devotion!
Jaune: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Do I have a say in this?
Weiss: YOU'LL DO WHAT I SAY WHEN I SAY AND HOW I SAY.
Weiss: Now, take me to your significant other so I can settle this for good~!
--------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: What's up, Jaune? Who's this white-haired bitch?
Jaune: I literally have no idea. She won't stop following me! And it's starting to get weird...
Weiss: Introduce me properly, or I won't make you any more meals~.
Jaune: That would be a small miracle.
Weiss: I'm his girlfriend~!
Pyrrha: Do what now?
Jaune: I'm a two-timing, waifu-collecting scum!
Pyrrha: YOU'RE AN IDIOT!
--------------------------------------------------
Weiss: So, who wants to do a karaoke style rap battle for Jaune's dick? The winner takes all in this steamy, ecchi romance novel~!
Pyrrha: Weiss is a bitch!
Weiss: ...
Weiss: (Shattering glass)
--------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Thank you, Weiss, for getting us kicked out.
Weiss: It wasn't my fault!
Jaune: THE OWNER HAD TO DRAG YOU OUT!
Weiss: That's on him for having Carnifex on the playlist!
Pyrrha: You're lucky he didn't sue you after causing that much damage!
Weiss: Okay! I get it! Now, who wants to play Grifball instead? (Leaps to her feet) Whoever scores the most goals gets to take Jaune on the next da- (Trips) AAAGH!
Pyrrha: I think you're disqualified.
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Alright, I've had enough of both of you! I never want to see either of you ever again!
Weiss: So, who's up for a threesome~?
Jaune: Well... Sharing is caring~!
Pyrrha: Are you kidding me?!
Weiss: Sharing is caring and it can be fun~!.
Weiss: I'll give you some 'cause you got none~!.
Weiss: There's nothing more important under the sun~!.
Weiss: Sharing is caring and sharing is fun~!.
--------------------------------------------------
Pyrrha: Well, we're here!
Jaune: Why are the two of you in my house?!
Weiss: We followed you home~!
Jaune: Well, that's mildly terrifying.
Pyrrha: Don't you know it's the man's responsibility to take two vulnerable girls home late at night!
Jaune: Alright, I give up. I'm too tired to deal with you two. Feel free to sleep on the couch, or whatever. I'm taking a shower and going to bed.
Pyrrha: Yay~! We'll destroy his Xbox and break his heart!
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune: WHO GAVE YOU PERMISSION TO BE IN HERE?!
Pyrrha/Weiss: It saves water~!

Ice
Tumblr media
Will & reader (could be platonic or early relationship.)
900 words
For anyone else who was missing a certain red head on Wednesday...
You felt like Bambi trying to make your way across the parking lot toward the hospital. Between sleeping through your alarm and the icy road conditions you were running very late for your shift. In your haste to get out of the house, you’d thrown on your regular shoes rather than your boots.
About halfway to the door your tractionless shoes slipped and you took a full cartoon style fall– both feet up in the air to land hard on your back. The hit knocked the wind from your lungs and it took a moment to suck in a breath.
Seconds later, the pain registered. Your back and head hurt. Before you could even think of what you should be doing next, Will was kneeling beside you.
“Don’t move,” he said. He started to run his fingers down either side of your neck in search of any abnormalities. “You hit your head pretty good. Does it hurt?”
You coughed, your lungs still trying to function properly. “Uh, yeah. My back too, kinda like up between my shoulders.”
“Okay, can you squeeze my fingers?” He placed two fingers against both your palms and you did as he'd asked. “Good, and push against my hands like you're pushing the gas pedal.” Again, you did as asked.
“Fuckin’ ice,” you muttered quietly.
“Okay. Do you think you can sit up?” Will asked.
You took another deep breath. “Yeah.” He offered his hand and very slowly pulled you into a seated position. You closed your eyes tightly as dizziness set in. “Woah.”
“Talk to me, sweetheart.”
You peeled your eyes open, locking into his concerned ones. “Just dizzy. Really dizzy.”
“You probably have a concussion,” Will suggested.
A shiver ran down your spine. “Yeah, well, won't matter if I freeze to death out here.”
Will chuckled. “We are going to move slowly. I don't need you passing out because you stood up too quickly.” He shifted so he could stand to help you up. “Ready?”
“Yup.” You winced as you straightened up, pain flaring through your back. You took half a step to get closer to Will and your feet slipped slightly. You gripped onto his arm so tightly your knuckles turned white.
“Okay, you're okay. I got ya.” He started to walk slowly and carefully towards the doors.
Once you made it to dry flooring, you sighed in relief. Will kept your hand wrapped around his arm as he headed towards the nurses station.
“Hey, Mags,” he greeted. “What's open? She took a hard fall outside.”
“Oh, sweetie.” She rubbed your shoulder gently. “Take treatment one.”
“Thanks,” said Will. “Can I get thoracic and cervical spine x-rays and a head CT?”
“And something for the pain? Please?” You asked.
“Let's get 50 micrograms of fentanyl, too,” Will added. “Oh, and a warm blanket.”
“You got it,” Maggie noted all the requests in the tablet she was holding. “Any blood work?”
“No, just the scans for now.”
About an hour later, you had finished all the scans and were trying your best not to doze off under your second warm blanket. April had brought a new one when she'd come to check your vitals.
Will came in with the tablet in his hands. “How're you feeling? In too much pain?”
You gave him a thumbs up. “I'm possibly too comfy. I'm fighting the nap hard.”
“Good news then. You can nap shortly,” he said.
“Yay!” You said lazily.
“You do have a mild concussion,” he explained. “As well as two bruised ribs. So you're stuck here for observation until at least tomorrow but you can sleep if you want.”
“Well that's gonna hurt tomorrow. Awesome,” you added sarcastically.
Will squeezed your hand gently. “At least nothing is broken. Get some rest, alright?”
“Mmhmm,” you hummed, already giving into the pull of sleep.
You had no idea how much time had passed when you woke up. It seemed a safe guess that the pain was what had roused you. It felt like someone was digging a knife into your shoulder blade and breathing made it even worse.
You groped around the bed for the call button as tears welled in your eyes. A moment later, you found it and proceeded to push it several times. April pushed the curtain back soon after.
“You're awake,” she stated.
A tear rolled down your cheek. “It hurts. It hurts a lot. I feel like I can't even breathe.”
She quickly moved closer and took your hand. “Just squeeze as hard as you need to. Take slow breaths.” Within a few minutes she had calmed you down quite a bit. “I'm gonna go find someone to get you something for the pain. I'll be right back.”
She leaned out the door and you heard her tell someone that you needed something for pain. Will came in a second later and gave April a dosage for morphine.
“That should help,” he started. “I'll make sure to get you a prescription before we send you home too. Sound good?”
“Thanks, Will,” you said. He took your hand. “What would I do without you?”
He laughed. “Probably would have just frozen to death in the parking lot. So my shift is over soon and you're getting moved upstairs. What do you say to some pizza and a movie?”
“Ooh, yes. Please! Hamburger, bacon and extra cheese for me.”
“Okay. I'll see you upstairs in an hour or so.”

First, your list is IMPRESSIVE. Now pretty please Raising Alec, Chimera!Liam and First Beta!Theo and False confidence (please tell me this has something to do with the song)
I know I'm just a simple girl with too much time on my hands (I made sure to have too much time so I could dedicate myself to higher purposes (fanfictions)) 😂🙏
Raising Alec
Omg yay I get to talk more about this!! Okay so I explained the premise here but here's a few fun facts about this fic:
- Theo is deeply sleep deprived (even more so now that he gets woken up by Alec's screams in the middle of the night every day) so he takes dad naps all the time and yet denies ever taking them. Alec thinks it's funny and, so, when Liam can tell his dreams are starting to turn into nightmares (his heartbeat spiking and slight movements), he gently wakes him up in a way that doesn't alert Alec that anything was ever wrong.
- Theo reads children books in this fic coz Liam learned that all he read were theory books with the DD so he made it his mission to give the chimera children books recs all the time. They go to the library together :3
- Corey visits one day and realizes that Theo and Liam are very much Alec's Parents and he's like 😶👀 and he immediately texts Mason: what the fuck????!!! babe!!! i’m in a sitcom!!! a STRAIGHT sitcom!!! what happened to them??
Chimera!Liam/FirstBeta!Theo
Okay so I really like this fic! I just find it super cool to see all the ways that Liam and Theo differ in their switched roles :)) Also Theo and Liam actually know each other from before Liam left BH. They spent a night being interrogated by the police for a petty crime when they were 8-9 yo. So anyway, I'll just fire at you a couple of my facts about this fic!
-Theo is held back a year coz he spent too much time at the hospital before Scott finally gave him the bite so he's in the same year as Mason, Liam, Hayden,... And he's basically bff with Hayden.
-Theo is *simping*!! Hard!! Andddd he's completely love-struck so he's like "No, Stiles, this guy who I'd find super sus any other day is sooooooo good and sooooo nice! How dare you say anything bad about my husband? I mean, Liam."
-Theo is a nerd and an insect nerd at that!! He loves bugs and learns all the different latin names for each species. Liam thinks it's cute. 🥰
-Liam doesn't have much of a plan (nothing like Theo seemed to have in canon), he just tries to get the pack's trust in case he needs to make them look away some point later. He's also not a soldier or spy for the DD but more of a cleaning person. He does all the small things they can't be bothered to do like clean the blood, retranscript some notes in the test subjects' files or run some small errands. That's how he made sure they'd want to keep him around.
-Liam knows that Mason would be the perfect test subject to be a chimera so he burns his hospital file before the DD can see it. He's also very excited to see his best friend again even if it means he needs to hide everything that he's become.
-Theo holds resentment towards Scott (even if he's one of his closest friends) because he let him rot in his hospital bed for almost a year before he finally decided that maybe seeing his friends die wasn't a good idea. In many ways, Theo owes Allison a debt of gratitude because her death made Scott come to his senses and bite Theo before it was too late. He just thinks that maybe, if Scott had bit him earlier, then he could've been there to protect Allison instead of lying in a bed, struggling to catch his breath.
False confidence
Theo is now 15, he's a complete soldier, merciless and obedient. He's not just some toy the dread doctors use, he's part of the team… or so he thought. But all his confidence shatters when they bring a new specimen to experiment on. (👀👀 Moi? Writing a half!werewolf half!werebear Liam chimera??? Maybe so😏)
“They won't keep you here long. They just want to know if you'd be a good fit for their research.”
Experiment might be too scary a word.
“What?” His voice cracks. “What research?”
Theo pauses to think but there’s really no way to nicely spin this. “They need a certain body to complete it. It probably won't be you.”
Liam frowns at the insane talk. Still, he is who he is and he can’t help but feel insulted by Theo’s obvious disregard. There’s an air of superiority in Theo's voice and body that ticks Liam the wrong way. He looks back at him with an angry tear-filled stare and a scoff.
“Well, I bet it wasn't you either.”
+++(if we're talking of Noah Kahan's song... Then yes, the song inspired the title!! Plus it could very much be applicable to this freaking angsty fic 😂. Theo thinks he's a stone cold killer but like... the first chapter is titled "Welcome to Stockholm. Population: 1")

I like think that Bethy's Sun n Moon would prolly try to snatch her back so the first time it happened-
*the entire family hanging out in the garden.*
Eclipse: *smiling whilst braiding Bethy's hair*
Bethy: *happily playing with the ears of her new bunny stuffie that she named Martha*
Yn: *reading a book*
Sun + Moon: *still sad that Bethy is anxious around them*
Bethy's old dads rush in and attempt to snatch her but Sun quickly points his sword at them
Bethy's old dads quickly jump back into the universe portal
Bethy: *curls up in Eclipse's lap* I wanna go back inside now *sniffles*
-- in the castle entrance--
Bethy's eclipse: WHY CAN'T I HAVE MY CHILD BACK!? IT'S NOT LIKE I ABUSED HER!
Moon: BECAUSE YOU'RE STILL USING HER IN A REVENGE PLAN!
Bethy's Eclipse: SO!? IT'S NOT LIKE A SEE HER AS A TOOL!
Moon: SHE'S SIX YEARS OLD! IT'S NOT OKAY TO USE HER IN A REVENGE SCHEME REGARDLESS!
--Later that night--
Eclipse: *goes full Wolfy boy on Bethy's eclipse because she ran into their room crying cuz he snuck in and tried to snatch her*
(context: eclipse had to explain to Bethy that he was using her in a revenge scheme so she felt betrayed by her eclipse and wants NOTHING to do with him.)
Yn let Bethy stay in her bed that night because she didn't want to stay eclipse because that was in the same bed as Sun n moon
-- another late night kidnapping attempt --
Bethy's Sun and Moon: *attempts to climb in thru the window while she's sleeping but gets clung back off into the portal by blue magic*
Moon glares at them but his eyes soften at the small child sleeping soundly in bed, hugging her bunny Martha.
The lunar emperor pets her head smiling softly but that smile turns into a frown as Bethy shrinks back from his touch in her sleep.
"N-No..Papa.. d-don't hit me.. I-I'm sorry.." The child whimpered in her sleep, jerking away from Moon's touch, her sleepy mind thinking it was her Moon.
The emperor removed his hand with a sigh, his eyes sad as she relaxed as soon as the contact with him ceased.
"I hope one day you'll accept Sun and I as your father's and..that you'll learn you don't need to fear us.." Moon muttered, taking a seat on the edge of Bethany's bed to keep watch just to make sure those two IMBECILES didn't try to sneak in again.
--
MWAHAHAHAHAHA ANGSTTTTTT >:33
Sun n Moon shall sufferrrr
and yay! Protective Wolfy father and protective big sissy yn! :3
BETHY SHALL CALL YN BIG SISSY AND NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE MWAHAHAHA
Dang…really hitting me with the angst missile huh😅😂.
Oh totally the boys would act like that. But you’re forgetting someone~
The Princess would go full murder queen on Bethy’a old parents. She knows what’s it like and doesn’t want this sweet little girl hurting like she had.
So she agrees to a truce with her own parents and starts keeping Bethy by her side (only though if the sweetheart doesn’t mind!) and keeps an eye out for any pesky “fathers” and or “uncles”.
