Does’t do much in a work sense, or any sense at all; for the most part, they just laze around in their Shrine or a retreat they found across Whispy Woods’ forest.

Came to Popstar after being purified by Kirby one year ago (or during the events of Star Allies). Has lived there ever since, and does not plan on leaving.

Generally kind, but very blunt and honest, and occasionally experiences strong mood swings causing them to be unusually rude, offensive, or sometimes even violent. They try to be decent, but because of their unfortunate past and connections to Void Termina as well as their current state of corruption, it’s a bit difficult for them to be so.

Spent most of their life aimlessly wandering the Universe before being purified and (in their own words) rescued by Kirby. Since then, they’ve lived in Dreamland, spending almost every day either relaxing or asleep. They’re not exactly a social character, and usually stay out of civilisation, either hiding away in their house (which is actually an old shrine they repurposed and redecorated) or alone on the opposite side of Whispy Woods’ forest, where they found what they describe as a miniature paradise. They occasionally invite Kirby to visit said paradise.

They rarely ever engage in any form of battle, but on the rare occasion they do, they always rely on their literal God-tier Soul Magic. Because of their abilities, they’re believed to be a part of, the twin of, child of, or otherwise related to Ylenik, the Ykka of Soul. It is unknown whether these assumptions are even remotely true, but the possibility is always there.

HI SO SORRY THIS IS LATE I WAS BUSY AS HELLLLL. doing this under a read more cause im gonna get probably very rambly and will also probably mention original arthurian legend too much so im sorry anon i hope this is ok

ok for starters i've only just gotten into arthurian mythology so im gonna try keeping my hcs inspired from that to a minimum. i wanna read more in depth about stuff before i start getting real about it. luckily sir lancelot (kirby) can be molded like putty compared to sir lancelot (og lore) cause hes like. almost a bare minimum blank slate. HCS MAY BE PRONE TO CHANGE:

sir arthur's right-hand man, OBVIOUSLY. since arthur has a reputation to keep up as the leader of the star warriors, lancelot's the one who does the more dirty/gritty work behind the curtains on his behalf. meaning arthur doesn't have to worry about his hands getting stained with the more brutal aspects of war, and he can keep his warm/virtuous persona up for the public.

tied into the last hc and vaguely inspired by og arthurian lore, lancelot can be a very, very scary warrior to encounter in the heat of battle. while he does a somewhat good job at hiding it, he is no stranger to entering violent battle-frenzy states where he's like. straight up unhinged. i don't know (yet) if i'd go as far as to say it's a full-blown bloodlust thing since im still sort of debating internally if he'd actually find genuine enjoyment in the act, but he is definitely familiar with inflicting carnage.

(sssssslightly leaning into oc based hc territory) lancelot has a natural affinity for water! he's significantly less prone to ailments commonly associated with being submerged in bodies of water (hypothermia, shock, decompression sickness, pulmonary barotrauma, etc etc), he’s an incredible swimmer, and he can hold his breath up to 15 minutes! perks of being raised by a selkie mom since you were an infant lol.

not an exactly sociable man (also probably because of being raised by nimue lol). really digging into how arthur’s the one who’s more revolved in public interactions while he’s the one behind him in his shadow. i wouldn’t exactly say he’s super asocial or anything, but he’s very stoic and not too chatty. in all honesty, he’s actually a bit awkward sometimes. that’s why he leaves the important talking to arthur.

related to some of the earlier hcs: he's kind of... an odd fellow. he was mostly raised alongside selkies/seals, and while nimue made sure to integrate him into common society the best she could, you can tell he still prefers to lean more to the selkie way of living in many aspects. he straight up eats raw fish (like im talking literal live fish. not even the sushi type), exclusively takes cold water baths/showers, and goes out in -8c weather in shorts. he also sometimes lays face down in water like a floating corpse to meditate but nimue definitely didn't teach his ass to do that.

will probably make this prettier / more detailed later, but have this run-down for now:

she isn’t too sure who she was meant to replace — and it never quite mattered. because as soon as she started speaking, hei ran was heralded as better than her original. a genius, a prodigy — a weapon that the order raised with iron fists, miracle invention that somehow had been tenderly kissed by god’s grace during her making.

for most of her childhood, hei ran was locked within study rooms, made to consume every bit of knowledge the order deemed useful. from physics to art to social niceties, who she was nothing compared to what she could become. 

for her part, hei ran never thought to complain, merely working harder to grab whatever glimpses of the outside world she could, no matter that this world was one full of deception and violence. even blood red was welcome to the greyscale printed pages of her books. 

when the order fell apart, she grasped the opportunity with both hands, traveling the world — but never quite leaving the one she had been accustomed to, living within the shadows with a rotating roster of names, forgetting to wash fingertips stained red. crime was a comfort of sorts, something solid to hold onto when the rest of her life had been carefully erased and forgotten. 

she was also too glad to wipe away the label of genius, instead leaning into her innocent looks and playing up the role of airhead. it was almost too easy — to shout the wrong answers when she knew exactly what the right one was; to act the opposite of society’s expectations and burn common courtesy altogether. she had spent the majority of her life following expectations, after all — it was only fair that she could now choose to break them.

"what do you mean i can just talk them down?? nope . they need to die . their whole species needs to die actually". she has the power to smite planets and shut off stars if she wanted to. she also fucks around the asteroid belts sometimes for fun lol

her lore is very simple she's basically just a descendant of the last star god so now she's just doing her job while going around outer space >:3

his lore is VERY CRAPTASTIC basically he sees the magic things normal humans shouldnt ever since he survived an accident at 13 yrs old (ghosts, gods, magic creatures, you name it) so he freaked out and got diagnosed with Schizophrenia for seeing things that arent there (its obviously a wrong diagnosis lol he is literally seeing the worl in its bare magic gears) so he just deals w that AND insomnia and college day to day,,,, yep he is a 22 yr old college student heeho he is just miserable

polaris and saeth both meet bc saeth fucked up, made a wish on a shooting star, and polaris has to grant it bc its also part of her job BUT the wish was so vague and fucky that it just got them stuck together. its the synopsis of their whole story lol basically saeth has to babysit a humanoid star god with ZERO human experience . on earth . and the said star god find humans dumb . its all fun and games

he's half human and half god bc of his champion occupancy, and the job he does is that he protects earth from these creatures called Void Creatures (wow im very creative at naming things) bc those things prey on negative human things !! he has sun and fire powers !!!! also a notorious fuckboy but in this story its more or less a misunderstanding !! also his lore is craptastic as well . all my ocs have craptastic lores i love writing suffering

anyway he is also Polaris's subordinate (since the sun is a star,,,,, and he + his god pulls power from that aha) and he hates her for being a genocidal asshat so they fight a lot but this trio is very solid and they work well together (,,,when they have to)

Spoilers for issue #4!

Let’s start this off right with CREATOR CREDITS. Issue 4 of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is titled “Restraint, Endurance, and Passion.” Written by Tom King, Art by Bilquis Evely, Colors by Matheus Lopes, Letters by Clayton Cowles, and Edited by Brittany Holzherr. THE STORY: 

Right, so this? This issue? Best one yet.

Also the bleakest of the bunch thus far; even though we don’t always see the brutality of the space pirates that Kara and Ruthye are following, there’s...the suggestion of it. The aftermath. And how Kara responds to it.

Okay, getting a little ahead of myself. BASIC PLOT SUMMARY: Ruthye and Kara continue their pursuit of Krem, who has taken up with Barbond’s Brigands.

The Brigands basically just. Murder and terrorize people, for profit.

Each planet they visit brings new horrors, as well as people who need Supergirl’s help.

And help she does.

KARA-CTERIZATION:

I yell a lot about the art on this book, and have, in fact, openly admitted that I’m primarily here for Evely and Lopes.

Well, that wily son-of-a-gun King went and wrote some of the best ‘Super’ stuff I’ve ever read and dang it, dang it, now I gotta yell about the words too. XD

Specifically, I wanna yell (in a good way!) about some words that occur towards the very end of the book.

Kara and Ruthye have Seen Some Things; things like genocide and mass grave sites and horrible violence, and upon reaching a planet where peaceful monks were slaughtered, Kara’s had enough, and needs to leave because if she screams, she’ll destroy what little is left of the monks’ monastery.

Here’s the text in full, because my gosh. It’s so good:

“What I write next I write based on my observations in those long-ago days at the side of the greatest warrior in the history of this august reality we all call home. It is important to note that my assertions do not rely on anything Supergirl said. It was not a subject we ever discussed or even approached, but nonetheless I believe it to be as true as the turning of worlds. You see, what is not well understood about the daughter of Krypton is that her power was not one of action but one of restraint, endurance, and passion. She did not choose to fire a beam from her eyes, or have breath of ice, or run faster than a speeding bullet. Or any of her other well-documented miracles. No, she held back her heat vision to look you in the face. She warmed her breath to converse with you. She slowed herself to walk by your side. Ever moment of every day, she suppressed the forces churning inside of her. All of the energy of a dead world that strained against her many barriers, eternally demanded to be released. I believe this effort hurt her. I believe she lived her life in pain. But I reiterate again, for I think it important enough to repeat--These beliefs are based on my time at her side, watching her as she moved through strife and sorrow. If you were to have asked her, I have little doubt she would have claimed that such as assertion was absurd. She would say she felt fine and well and then she’d as you if you needed any help.”

A long chunk of words, I know (this comic is DENSE!) but like. This is it. This is one of the defining attributes of the Supers--all that raw power at their disposal and they choose to help people, to be kind, to suppress that power for the benefit and safety of others.

HNNNNNNNG.

Hope, Help, and Compassion for All.

Whole lotta folks claimed at the outset of this book that King did not understand Kara, that he was a bad fit. And that may be so, I suppose--there’s a whole other discussion about like. The violence and swearing and ‘does that belong in a Supergirl book?’ But the characterization? Getting that Kara and Clark are just good people? 

King gets it. He got it in Superman: Up in the Sky and he gets it here, in Woman of Tomorrow.

Other things King gets! Kara is stubborn! Kara is passionate! Kara is going to fix things, even if the effort of doing so hurts her, physically, emotionally, and mentally!

(Fuuuuuuun fact for the crowd saying that Woman of Tomorrow is vastly superior to the CW show: TV Kara is ALSO all of those things! King isn’t pulling this stuff out of thin air. It’s almost like...gosh. I don’t know! Both the show and Tom King are pulling from the character’s comic history, or something!!!! HOW NOVEL.) 

Like, seriously. There’s a lot of overlap. Stop pitting Karas against each other!

Anyways!

I promised art, so here is art!

Oh, right, forgot to mention, Kara literally THROWS HERSELF INTO THE SUN to express her grief and anger, so as to not cause that unnecessary destruction. She gives new meaning to the phrase: Set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. 

More art yelling: GOTTDAMN, the way Evely draws Kara just colliding with the surface of the sun and then the way Kara’s hair like...becomes the flames...

I am FEELING FEELINGS. HOW DARE.

Also, props to King and Cowles; King for deciding to have that initial scream, Cowles for the way the letters burst forth from the point of impact on the sun, and then back to King who decided that it would just be...devastating silent screaming from Kara, for the remainder of the scene. 

Back to the characterization, I just wanted to highlight something I mentioned...earlier on, I think? In these posts? But haven’t brought up recently, and that is how this book has not once brought up Zor-El, and I think Superman only got a quick mention in issue 2.

Honestly, I think that’s gotta be some kind of record.

It’s so refreshing. Not because I think there should never be mentions of Clark, or anything--I love that boy--but because so much of modern Supergirl comic drama is mined from the same like, angsting over her place compared to Clark, or her crazy sometimes-a-supervillain dad. 

There is no Clark and Kara drama here, no manufactured friction, because it’s just. A cool Supergirl story! 

Gonna keep going, but let’s do it with some more...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTT!!!!

Once again, Mat Lopes is all over the dang place with his palettes, it’s marvelous.

Each new planet gives Evely the opportunity to go hog wild on the worldbuilding and design, and similarly! Each new locale is an opportunity for Lopes to set the tone with colors. Like, here, towards the beginning of the book, we’ve got a planet bathed in this warm, pale yellow/orange light. 

(Quick note: “Sure, yeah, I get it. We all have our duties. And it’s mine as a neighbor to do what I can to help you with yours. Please.” A+ Kara content. We love to see it. And then locating the remains of the alien’s daughter, so that they can go visit the grave site and have some emotional closure???? It’s just. So. Touching.)

Anyways, back to colors.

Like!!!! LOOK AT THAT JUMP. From the soft, almost pastoral feel of the delicate oranges and yellows to HARD GREEN, PINK, AND PURPLE. (Difficult colors to pull off in print, I might add.) 

(This is also an interesting scene, character-wise, because I think it helps re-contextualize some earlier stuff with Kara. Like, I’m mostly thinking that incident on the bus, where she was swearing at the passengers as the space dragon was about to destroy them. Here, we see Kara kind of...goad this alien woman into releasing her pent up emotions by yelling at her/getting her to fight, and you can clearly see at the end of it that Kara did not mean the things she said, because check this out:

She goes and gives her a hug once the woman is able to finally cry.

It’s not ‘Kara is being mean, Kara is swearing at her’, it’s, ‘Kara has an unorthodox solution to a problem, and she’s gonna FIX that problem, NO MATTER WHAT.’

Circling back to the bus thing--again, that could be an instance of ‘unorthodox approach to a weird situation that Kara is going to handle because lives are at stake.’)

But also, DIG THAT KIRBY KRACKLE, BAY-BEEEEE!

And a little Strange Adventures easter egg! The Pykkts! 

(I think those guys are unique to the Black Label series, rather than deep Adam Strange lore, but don’t quote me on that.)

Moving on to YET ANOTHER PALETTE, one I’ve dubbed, ‘Treasure Planet Purple/Grey’

Also, just as striking as the colors of the environment, are the colors used on Kara. 

If you compare this page with the previous one, Kara’s eyes are a paler shade of blue, and the red-rimmed look on her eyes here is not as intense as the red-rimmed look we saw back in issue one, when she was confronting Krem. 

All of which to say! There’s a pale, haunted quality to both the linework and the colors. Like. We know Kara has Seen Some Things. But she’s shoving all that stuff down to protect Ruthye, to save Krypto, and to stop these monsters, and you get all of that WITH COLORS AND LINES ON A PAGE.

I love it, I love it so much.

I’m never right about these things, so I’m glad the one time I’ve correctly read a thing is when it involves Krypto not, ya know. Being dead. XD

Also absolutely love that Kara’s instinct is to send Ruthye home to protect her--once more leaning into that whole, ‘I’m going to protect you, even at great cost to myself’, though of course we know that she can’t send her home, not here, not now, just halfway through our journey. 

ERRRRRRGH, so mad we’re not getting twelve issues of this! CURSE YOU, POOR SUPERGIRL TRADE SALES! CURSE YOOOOOOU!

That said, King’s pacing? Has been phenomenal. I feel like Strange Adventures and even Mr. Miracle kinda...I’m not gonna say dragged, that’s not quite right. But it is more build up, I guess. Takes a while to get to the payoff.

Here, I think King is pushing things steadily along as he doesn’t have the benefit of an additional four issues, so he has to get to the point, so to speak. Keeps everything moving.

SOME FINAL, MISC. STUFF:

I’ve sort of glossed over the darker stuff from this issue, and I just wanna note that like. This is a book that features a bad guy getting stoned (in the death sentence way, not the drug way) on panel. Like. I can’t recommend this to children.

I can’t even really recommend it to some other Supergirl fans, because I know that the King elements will be too off-putting. 

It never feels like the book is going too far, though. At least in like an...exploitative way? If that makes sense?

The violence is handled with discretion, I guess is what I’m trying to convey. This could very easily tip over into like, gross shock factor territory, if not handled well, but I think the creative team pulls it off.

...Still wouldn’t hand this book to kids, though. XD

As mentioned, we’re halfway through this series! Can’t wait to see where it goes--every time I think I have this book figured out, it surprises me. So, like. Bring on the Dinosaur planet! With no sunlight! I wanna see how Lopes handles THAT. XD

First of all I hear you, second of all I don’t know if you’re still looking for these BUT I moved away from home for the first time and have been furniture hunting for my apartment & today I got my Bright Emerald Green dresser and yellow entry table!! They are v colorful and make me happy. I have been able to hear the sounds of life going on around me: my complex is also dog friendly & so I hear them barking sometimes; there is a Great Dane I’ve seen twice so far and I am Delighted every time.

THIS IS SO CUTE!!! I am so glad that you are having a good time making your living space an expression of you! and also, your TASTE??? literally impeccable. having colorful things in your home is so much fun and I really think it just makes it more fun to inhabit and a happier space for your brain! I’m redoing my room (it used to be dark navy with birch trees painted on it which was rad but a little dark after a while) and I painted the walls yellow and am starting the process of priming my desk/bookshelf/drawers to do little vaporwave/gameboy color inspired murals on them, and I think I’m gonna build little pixel heart shadow boxes to showcase some of my trinkets in! I may have a,,, ridiculously huge Pinterest board about my cottagecore/maximalist dream home but for now... my place shall be the living embodiment of trans rights kirby. I shan’t elaborate. ALSO!!! Comic Review – Mister Miracle

Darkseid has often been presented as THE big bad for large DC Comics events. Much like how the Marvel Movies used Thanos (Thanos is basically a mashup of Darkseid and Metron). He is the existential threat, the final boss and because it's comic books he is an evil rock monster in space that Superman can punch. Darkseid can fill that role fine, but in comics I would say he suffers from overplay. It's hard to remain scary when you lose so many times.

More modern comics (Specifically Grant Morrison's work) have explored the Darkseid as a more internal threat. 

"Darkseid is."

Really playing on the pun of his name, he is the dark side of everyone. As with a lot of Jack Kirby’s work, Darkseid is both metaphor and supremely literal and frankly I think the magic of superhero comics lies in that duality. The part that’s metaphor allows them to be relatable and inspiring, but looking at them as pure metaphor and they break down. The X-Men don’t work as a representational metaphor because being gay doesn’t make you a living weapon who can murder people by looking at them, but it also can work because it can feel like that’s how the world treats you. Ideally there’s a balance.

Also there’s part where Darkseid is a joke.

My first experience with Darkseid was in Superman the Animated Series where he was a legitimately intimidating villain both because of the great voicework by Michael Ironside, and because the actions he took and their real impact.

But as a recurring existential threat he falls flat. Because he's pure evil, he's immutable. He's inflexible.

"Darkseid is."

Maybe that’s not fair. I think he can be a good recurring threat, but often isn’t because resolving a conflict with him takes a certain tact. As scary as he is, as powerful as he is, he’s a villain in Superhero comics. If it comes down to a fight he is going to lose. Superman will win that 1 on 1.

Darkseid as an in your face threat can fall flat because that pure good vs pure evil beat down is straightforward. Where Darkseid shines as a villain is in the shadows. The puppet master pulling the string. Because then Darkseid isn’t just a giant evil rock man in space for Superman to punch, he is also Granny Goodness, Desad, Kalibak, Lex Luthor, and every two bit crook along the way. He is every pain along the way, every compromise, every dark thought, every mistake, every failure.

“Darkseid is.”

But Darkseid is also a literal evil rock man in a skirt. And a joke. So the other way Darkseid really works is when he shows up on your couch.

“Darkseid is.”

Sometimes it’s just a comfy chair or handing you your McDonalds order but the point is he’s just there in the mundane part of the character’s life. His evil permeates everything and because he’s a literal evil rock monster from space sometimes that means an evil eight foot rock monster in a skirt is sitting in your house waiting for you when you get home. “Couchseid” he is sometimes called.

The reason I went through all that is that’s the thoughts and feelings I had about Darkseid going into this comic. The baggage of expectation and desire I had going in. And before I get into the details I just want to say that this comic completely nails this idea. In fact the entire comic embodies it, extending it out to the entire Fourth World. Contrasting the high fantasy war of good and evil Gods with the mundanity of normal life at every level.

Ok, now let’s dig into Mister Miracle.

Mister Miracle written by Tom King with art by Mitch Gerads and lettering by Clayton Cowles opens with Mister Miracle bleeding out in his bathroom having slit his wrists in a suicide attempt. That’s where we start.

“Darkseid is.”

Jack Kirby’s New Gods #1 opens with an epilogue. “There came a time when the old Gods Died!” That’s where we start.

Mister Miracle is a book about dealing with trauma and the trauma at the heart of The New Gods is the exchange; where Darkseid and Highfather exchanged sons to end a vicious war and bring peace to their worlds. This is the first comic I’ve seen question if that exchange was worth it. What does it say about Highfather that he was willing to sacrifice his infant son and condemn him to hell, even though that meant saving countless lives?

This comic can do that because this version of Mister Miracle, Scott Free, is so clearly suffering from abuse and trauma and PTSD and this version of Orion is such a jerk and unheroic.

For Scott and Big Barda the Earth is their home, they have an apartment there, they have normal domestic concerts. Being New Gods and fighting in that war is their day job. But for Orion that war is his life. He is single minded in his desire to destroy Darkseid and his own moral authority. He sees only in absolutes. He’s a cartoon, and in the real world that makes him a monster.

“Darkseid is.”

So there’s another aspect of Mister Miracle that I haven’t talked about that I love and that all starts with Funky Flashman.

Funky Flashman is Jack Kirby’s parody of Stan Lee. Well, of the public persona of Stan Lee. He’s out here shouting “ Excelsior!” and whatnot. Tom King and Mitch Gerads make the most of getting to have Stan Lee in their comic. The whole other layer to Mister Miracle beyond its plot is that it’s also a tremendous tribute to Kirby himself, including his work at Marvel. It’s extra crazy that that made it into this DC comic.

There’s Scott Free’s trial, which takes place in his apartment, that can be read as Kirby up against Steve Ditko’s objectivist beliefs. But the most blatant and amazing is a retelling of The Coming of Galactus and its place within this story. This is legitimately one of my favorite things in any comic I’ve ever read.

It just makes me so happy.

Mister Miracle is a comic I can’t get out of my head. It has so many perfect moments, whether they’re heartbreaking and tragic or uplifting and life affirming; emotional or frivolous, serious or hilarious. It knocks it out of the park on every front. It’s an unbelievable piece of craft.

Back to Darkseid.

In Kirby’s Fourth World Good is always stronger than Evil. That’s foundational. Superman is going to win. Darkseid eventually loses no matter how scary or intimidating he is. But...

“Darkseid is.”

He’s also pernicious and enduring. Ultimately, punches alone aren’t going to solve him. There is some catharsis in that. That’s how Superman: The Animated Series ended; with Superman pummeling Darkseid into submission. But it’s not quite what you want, or at least it’s not quite enough. What’s the answer to “Darkseid is?” What’s the counterpoint? “Darkseid is” is the setup, but you need a punchline.

At the end of Mister Miracle we get exactly that. It’s simple and perfect.

Mister Miracle written by Tom King with art by Mitch Gerads and lettering by Clayton Cowles is a masterpiece and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Nolan:

Sabre / Litten: An alley stray kid!Nolan befriended before rescuing him one day from drowning in a canal. Follows him like a little shadow ever since.

Princess / Skitty: Nolan adores Skitties and always wanted one. So he saved up and bought her from a specialised Skitty breeder after being on a long waiting list. He also wanted a playmate for Sabre (”This is your sister”). However his two cats bicker often.

Lee / Elekid-Electabuzz:  A wild chance encounter.

Boog / Cubchoo-Beartic: Followed after (intensely stalked) Nolan throughout his journey despite Nolan's protest and eventually caught himself with a Quick ball Nolan was saving up.

Lazarus / Numel-Camerupt: He camped out for Lazarus because he thinks Numels are so! freakin! awesome! Boog causes an accidental landslide that traps a Numel and Nolan stays behind for several days, encouraging it to break free.

Baz / Wartortle-Blastoise: He chanced upon it in the wild where it had a Naruto Rasengan/Chidori (Aura Sphere vs Electro Ball) battle with Lee.

Zion:

Don / Shiftry*: He lived in the tree kid!Zion would often read under as a Seedot. He was very intrigued by Zion’s books and would try to follow after him to look at the pages. Despite being initially annoyed by his persistence, Zion took a liking to him and they eventually struck up a friendly companionship. When Don was attacked by a horde of bird-Pokémon, Zion took him in and nursed him back to health and they’ve been together ever since.

Aoi / Riolu: Aoi and Naga were street urchins who were drawn to Zion's garden and started stealing his produce to fill their empty bellies. They got caught by Zion's Nuzleaf (then) and Zion punished them. ...but he also fed them and cleaned them. Them living with him is essentially him going "Well, I guess you can stay until we find you a new home, but until then, make yourself useful" They've gotten really comfortable at Zion's.

Naga / Mienfoo: Like Aoi, they raided and ruined Zion’s garden and were tasked with repairing the damage it (as Zion did not have the heart to throw them out as they were kids). From the garden it shifted to chores around the house to earn their keep. Till they find “new trainers”, they had to do their part and Zion felt like he had to set them straight, on the right path.

Ueki / Bonsly-Sudowoodo: Zion found it hiding in his garden one day eating his crops. He tried to chase it off and when he finally cornered it, it started bawling (Fake Tears). This caught him off guard and he faltered. The Bonsly saw an opening and slipped past Zion, but not before throwing a move at him and sticking its tongue out, and then running away. The Bonsly returned in the days of the following week and caused a lot of trouble for Zion until he finally captured it. It took forever because it was devious and clever and it wasn’t afraid to fight back. They even set up traps for it. Aoi and Naga were the main ones who chased after it while Don supervised (it’s surprisingly agile) and it had a lot of fun making them scramble around. It used the Fake Tears trick on Zion again but he wasn't fazed. In fact, he gave it an angry stern lecture and it sulked.

Hagame / Turtwig: The Turtwig lives in his garden and spends most of her time sleeping amongst Zion's crops. He found that she had wandered in and made a home for herself and he was really afraid she’d eat and damage his crops. But he found out that she didn't and actually made his plants healthier so he just left her alone (also mainly because he failed to drive her out) She was always sleeping and once she was asleep, she wouldn't wake up and she was very heavy - so he got Aoi and Naga to lift and carry her out of the garden, left her outside and they shut the gates next day she was back at the same place so this continued on for a while until Zion kinda gave up since she wasn't really being a nuisance. She is also a very clean Pokemon. Zion appreciates that. He feeds and waters her regularly like another one of his plants. She also produces oxygen which boosts health and in turn she boosted the health of his crops xD She’s a grass type Pokemon so idk I guess she was good for the plants too She sleeps a lot and doesn't really bother anyone. Sometimes Zion takes the time out to polish her shell.

Fūrin / Chimecho: Inherited from his great-grandparents together with the house as a guardian.

Day:

Kirby / Sylveon: Picked out from a litter of Eevees given away in school a local Eevee breeder (same as Jacob)

Mickey / Marill-Azumarill: He got his Azurill from a trip to the beach. He befriended it and it followed him back

Pinkie / Cleffa-Clefairy-Clefable: Appeared during the night of a meteor shower. While everyone else was out watching the meteor shower, she snuck into Day’s house to steal but got stuck. She literally broke in. Pinkie loves Minior-shaped candies

Benny / Togepi-Togetic: Given to Day as an egg by his god-aunt, Noella as a Christmas gift (in conjunction with Jacob’s Mimi)

Aeriel:

Pixie / Cutiefly-Ribombee: Aeriel’s childhood pokemon.

Mochi / Pikachu: He was found entangled and stuck wires and overcharged after a power outage and was very ill with electrical overcharging. Day’s mum nursed it back to health. Because they usually release Pokémon they’ve nursed back to health, Day pleaded for his mum to keep the Pikachu. He now stays as their family pet.

In which someone doesn’t actually read what was written.

Me: “This nowadays tendency of putting on the author the responsibility of teaching their readers morality.”

Bullshit. Ever hear about the Hays Code or the Comic Code? Before the advent of the commonly published graphic comics and the movie there were all manners of normative structures mandating that the primary function of publication was teaching people about what is right and what is wrong.

This goes back a long time in all classical cultures. It isn’t “nowadays” as if there were a mythical golden era of before.

Authors are allowed to write whatever the fuck. But whatever you write has consequences. Maybe you write something interesting with a lot of care that has great social value and happens to be about child abusing serial murders. Chances are that if your primary product is indistinguishable from political propaganda for Nazis and child abusers that you are indistinguishable from a Nazi and child abuser apologist.

Being the author for a thing does not make you immune to criticism for your authorial choices and does not bar people from opposing the publication of your work particularly in an environment where such work constitutes a kind of political propaganda to normalize violence and oppression.

Whatever you create is never truly independent of you. Narrator is not strictly identical to the author, but they may be similar enough that for general arguments the difference can be neglected without loss of precision.

You get free speech. That does not mean freedom from social consequence. In situations of injustice such as colonial, imperial, patriarchal, or capitalist politics choosing a neutral point of view as a creator is siding with the abuser. If you as an author choose to not teach ethics or morality or consider such things real world implications then you have made a choice which is reflected in your artifacts.

Language matters. Representation matters. Political apathy is not commendable.

Them: I literally stopped after you cited the Hays Code and Comics Code as “mandating that the primary function of publication is teaching people what is right and what is wrong.” Because if that’s the case, you must think that gay people, interracial marriages, adults drinking alcohol, and married couples sleeping in the same bed are wrong. Let’s be real clear here: the Hays Code was both ridiculous and unconstitutional and the Comics Code was a parody of itself, and both of them made queers invisible unless they were suffering for their queerness. It was literally a rule, because homosexuality was “perverse”. Under the Hays Code:

`Crime (again, including BEING OPENLY GAY) must have consequences shown on-screen. You couldn’t be gay without punishment for your gay. The “correct standards of life” must be upheld. Guess what? NO OVERT GAY, because that wasn’t correct. No interracial marriages. Both of those items were directly and explicitly banned as “perverse.” Anything that didn’t fit the sanitized version of life could not be shown. Also, directors shied away from depiction of poverty, or anything that the ruling class didn’t think was ‘correct standards of life,’ because showing people living in poverty could be construed as not showing people ‘living to proper standards.’ No nudity or sexual activity even between consenting adults. The Hays Code is why married adults on sitcoms had separate twin beds. This also included pregnancy and childbirth, as those were the ‘results’ of sex. To prevent love scenes from being considered sexual, a woman had to be shown with one foot on the floor. Adults could not drink alcohol unless it directly was related to plot. Religion could never be ‘depicted in a mocking manner,’ which led to some editorial changes. For example, 1940′s Pride and Prejudice? Mr. Collins was a librarian. 1948′s Three Musketeers had Prime Minister Richeleu. To avoid being accused of ‘mocking’ religion, studios removed religion altogether. And, of course, the sanctity of marriage had to be upheld. You know. Marriage between one cisgender heterosexual man and one cisgender heterosexual woman. That marriage. `

The CCA was so ridiculous that it wouldn’t approve a comic written by Stan Lee called ‘Green Goblin Reborn’ which was explicitly recommended by the US Dept of Health, Education and Welfare, because it depicted a character’s drug use in an extremely negative light and had an extremely anti-drug message. The CCA wouldn’t approve the comic because it showed drug use at all. Comics couldn’t even have positive messages or show characters overcoming or recovering from negative paths they were on because those negative paths couldn’t be shown in the first place. And of course they had all the same issues as above. It’s also worth noting that the United States Supreme Court began neutering the Hays code 14 years after its inception, and in 1965 it ruled that the Hays Code could only approve a film, it could not ban one, because that was an infringement on the First Amendment. This is how we got – wait for it, wait for it! – a ratings system instead of content bans! Jack Valenti was elected to the head of the MPAA in 1966 with the specific promise to move from bans and codes to ratings. So, if your point was ‘this already existed and it was good!’ actually, uh, those things already existed, and they failed, and it bears repeating that attempts to bar films from being shown without Hays Code approval were explicitly declared unconstitutional, and were replaced by ratings systems and content warnings. I don’t give one good goddamn about shipping wars on Tumblr, but for fuck’s sake, at least take three hot seconds to Google the history you’re citing and see if what you’re holding up as some standard that supposedly “established blah blah movies should only teach us morality” did something other than

`fail miserably lead to a bunch of ridiculous workarounds and euphemisms and Melanie in Gone With The Wind giving birth like she’s some shadow creature about to stab Renly Baratheon disproportionately affect LGBTQ/queer people, POC, and other marginalizations get declared unconstitutional (because, as it turns out, making a big board of people who decide what can get published does in fact violate the First Amendment) make such a parody of itself that comics companies stopped giving a fuck and released comics without the Comics Code approval. Like, seriously, this isn’t difficult history. You could Google it. Literally the only film critic these days who actually supports the Hays Code is Michael fucking Medved. You know, the guy who says that all non-Orthodox Jews vote primarily based on their hatred of Christianity? The one who’s super great buds with Daniel Lapin? The one who wrote “Six Inconvenient Truths About The US and Slavery”? That’s the only film critic still around who thinks that the Hays Code was ever a good idea. That’s who you’re aligning yourself with by pointing to the Hays Code and going “see? The Hays Code! ‘mandating that the primary function of publication is teaching people what is right and what is wrong.’” That is literally the only film critic I could find who agrees with you. Someone who thinks that the United States didn’t prosper because of slavery and that the concept that slavery is what built the US a lie, who champions himself as a former delusional leftist turned ‘conservative champion.’ That’s your buddy. That’s your pal in morality, methods, and rightness. Jesus fuck, read a little history. I’m so exhausted.

The person that is responding to commentary fixates on arguing something that to me is unnecessary. We are in gross agreement on the nature and history of the Hays and Comic codes. They didn’t read my commentary and did not actually comprehend the nuance of what I wrote.

To make it explicit: the Hays Code and the Comic Code were bad, and there was a political uprising that took up most of the 20th century to peel them back.

‘this already existed and it was good!’ is the exact wrong interpretation of what I wrote.

A bunch of authors got together and deliberately wrote in political stances and created representation in defiance of the Hays Code and the Comic Code. They wrote both fiction and non-fiction lobbying against those codes.

Much of the explanation above is useful for those who are not familiar with those codes and their histories, but they are irrelevant to the point I was making which was that things like them are not new.

Authoritarians do and absolutely will take unambiguous political stances with respect to media that they either outright create or which they malappropriate and decontextualize.

To be explicit about the relevance of the Hays code and the Comic Code to the specific things being argued here: authors political opposed those codes with their work and in doing so argued effectively about morality and ethics.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s great contributions to the world of comics was in teaching readers around the world what was right and what was wrong.

A bunch of the examples in the OP, like Lolita to cite one, are written by authors who arguably had good intentions in their writing but none the less contributed works that have lasting and damaging legacies.

What we write has consequences. Some consequences are good and desirable. Some consequences are bad or undesirable. Write in opposition to laissez-faire authorship in times of rising fascism, and you may find yourself blocked by people who might otherwise be well meaning.

Sometimes writing a dystopian depiction of society in sufficient detail is irresponsible especially when the author try to “let the work speak for itself” rather than outright condemn the people and circumstances that create the dystopia. The representation may be used as a blueprint for implementing that dystopian society, and it can be demonstrated for a wide variety of cases that is exactly what has happened.

Much of the advice of the thread is perfectly fine with good faith politics and good faith authorship among trustworthy and responsible communities of readers and activists. However, my view comes specifically from watching the underworlds of authorship where bad faith abounds.

An awful lot of things which are written as fiction are no such thing. They are either retellings of real world abuses in coded terminology shared among abuse cultures or they are de facto manifestos of political ideologies for covert organization by abuse cultures.

There is a reason why rape, incest, and abuse narratives are so prevalent in erotic and pornographic media development communities particularly those adjacent to the neo-technocrats.

it is important that authors never lose sight of the world and history from which they emerge and within which they exist. It is important that we teach each other about this world and about these histories.

alright, you know what

about two weeks ago maybe by now, i made a post about how i’ve recently hit 200 followers and i’d like to do a q&a again, and even with a reblog from someone more ~*popular*~ than me, and multiple reblogs once a day for a few days by myself, i didn’t get a single fucking question. not one. earlier today i posted two pictures of myself where i felt pretty (i’ve since deleted them) and nobody i actually know of liked it and i got asked by a stranger who doesn’t even follow me if i had any nsfw pictures. i don’t get asks anymore, i don’t get shit. and that tells me that, you may be following me, but you aren’t connecting with me. and i feel that. i get on tumblr and i don’t feel like i’m friends with fucking anybody. and i did that. i know i did that. 9/10 times i let my fear of rejection and embarrassing myself overcome my desire to talk to people, so i don’t do it, or i let it fizzle out and we go our own ways and we don’t become friends. 1/10 times i actually function as a human being and make a connection or at least something that sticks a little.

i am trying to get into comic books by way of the youtube channel comicstorian. they break comic books down for you and read them aloud with the images, altered slightly to avoid copyright strikes (and that’s all made very clear, it’s not done sketchily), and it’s been really easy for someone like me who doesn’t just have a comics store close (and i would otherwise continue on as i have been, forgetting to ever look for them on the internet). i listened to injustice 1 and 2, and they covered the game. i’m actively following scooby apocalypse, and there was some teen titans stuff i went all the way through up until now. i don’t think it’s finished yet from what i remember.

 Lets see how many Waluigi fans I can trigger with this post. Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be my first video game review. I believe everyone of there internet is familiar with this game series by now. If not, then what rock have you been living under for the past 20ish years.

The review will be split into two parts. First the review for the storyline, and then the review for the multiplayer section. It will become obvious as you continue reading. I sure hope you do so...

Spoilers of the story mode will be shown below. Proceed with caution. 

Super Smash Bros Ultimate: 

With an arsenal of 76 fighters to choose from and various assist trophies, cough Waluigi cough, from many different games and pokemon to also join in the battle the possibility for this game seems endless. Although, then Mr. Sakurai of course had to go above and beyond literally everyone’s expectations to add the spirits section which includes characters from countless other games, adding approximately 1200 new characters to the game. (I know that there is more than this, but the last hundreds is just spirits of all the fighters so I was not counting them.)

Summary: 

The World of Light story mode for Smash Ultimate takes place when a new villain, Galeem, eliminates all the fighters and brainwashes them into serving its needs - basically turning them into his puppets. This all goes along to its plans except for the precious start child, Kirby, Mr. Sakurai’s beloved creation (well other then the entire Smash series). Kirby is then faced to *read in Morgan Freeman's voice* save the entire world! Then after beating Galeem for the first time a new villian emerges from the darkness, Dharkon, who seems to hold an impressive grudge again Galeem. The two seem to be in a constant battle with the recovered fighters only watching from the sidelines as their battle takes place. 

For the multiplayer section of the game the format of it has changed drastically from Smash 3 and Smash 4 respectively Smash 3Ds and Smash Wii U. The rule section is now a mandatory passage into the game and the stage selection now comes before the character selection. The rules also can not be changed once you select them unless you back out all the from the match to change them. Multiple other features have also been implemented such as smashdown and a tournament mode. Spirits can also be used in multiplayer battle as well between friends.

Review:

I have to give some kudos (Shinichi AUGGGG!!! Sorry little fangirl episode. I apologize for the interruption.) to the story line overall. The plot was something unique and unexpected, and oddly entertaining considering the sheer lack of cutscenes and lore to go along with it. Being able to come up with a interesting storyline like it has after the Subspace Emissary is quite impressive. When watching through the Smash Directs waiting for the game to release I absolutely knew that there was going to be a new story mode to go along with this game, but I was unsure on what exactly it was going to be because the Subspace Emissary seems almost perfect. The World of Light appears to be a battle of good and evil where one can not appear without the other, yet can not survive without each other. I believe MatPat's description of the lore can be one possible interpretation of the story mode, but I also believe that there are others as well. In creating my review of this integration I did use The Game Theory’s theory for some inspiration and guidance, so I will be drawing off of that as a source. 

Galeem and Dharkon physically seem to represent light and darkness respectively, so it would be obvious that they would be enamines. Then why do they both encapture all of the fighters who are supposed to be on the good side. Why would they both do so. Well the short and simple answer of that is that, as the cut senses show that is not the point. In the aspect of Galeem and Dharakon the fighters are meaningless, they have no value. Going back to the origin of it all, the fighters are supposed to simply represent a child playing with them and bringing them to life. In a matter of light and darkness the person playing or controlling the figure decides on how that they will behave. By the fighters being abducted by Galeem and Dharkon itis a simple change of hands. I mean even Master hand, general of Galeem, and then Crazy Hand, general of Dharkon, can easily represent order and discord. Each are traits of it varios counterparts. We, the player, are simply spectators watching a match between rivals of sorts. Each side has a general, 3 captains, various amounts of sargents (being the abducted characters), and then plentiful amounts of pawns (being the Spirits themselves). This battle we witness between the two is an war between light and darkness. 

The ending of story more is only obtained through defeating both Galeem and Dharkon at the same time. This is the true ending which will set all the spirits free. If only defecting a single one then the other will destroy the world. Each which is called the bad ending. This true ending then meaning that light can not exist without darkness and then darkness can not exist without light. If simply darkness exists then the world will be thrown into chaos and discord while is only light exists then nothing would get done and everything will cease to exist. A balance is needed for harmony to happen. Throughout the final map of the game as spirits were defeated Galeem and Dharkon constantly fought for power to overtake the other. The player, not shown, represent this balancing act. The act of calming and defeating both of the large giants restored order to the world, adn allowed life to continue. Quoting Kingdom Heart, (Its a good game series lay off!) “ The closer you get to the Light, The Greater Your Shadow Becomes.” In order to maintain a balance as light grows the darkness should also grow. As the balancer in the game you are returning balance to the world that was taken out of balance when Galeem first tried to overtake Dharkon by taking all of the fighters into its own ‘hand’, and then when it was taken out by the balancer the shift in powers went over to Dharkon who’s power rose. Think of it as a see-saw, as one side rises the other sinks, but if you then release the side the rose it will then sink and the other side will rise.

(Wow! That was a lot of writing just on the lore, lol. I congratulate all who actually read through that.)

The playthrough of the story mode itself I was sadly a bit disappointed int. With The Subspace Emissary you could play multiplayer and there was even some playforming that characters could travers. I was sad when both of those features were taken out of the game. The graphics of the story mode itself was impressive though. I could see the real dedication to each aspect of the map, and how they tried to fit each portal area to a certain theme to a game. Like there was a Monster Hunter area, Bowser's Castle, Legend of Zelda, and a Castlevania. The avatar of every single character was impressive as well. I mean creating all of the sprites especially fro this one small thing was no small feat, so that trait I appreciated. I know the big theme for Smash Ultimate is, “Got to go fast” as quoted from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but sometimes its a little nice to stop and smell the roses. Like in the story mode! I would honestly sacrifice about half of the spirit battles in spirit mode to have some fun platform levels of some sort. Even if it was just put in as minigames I would be happy. Like Hit the Target or Find the Exit from melee, or maybe even just reskining some of the platform levels from Subspace with a HD addition to it and throwing it into World of Light. Any of that would be amazing! I believe that added a lot of fun to the overall story mode itself, and it was one of the main reasons that made me actually want to replay and beat the story mode multiple times because it was something a bit different from the rest of the game. It made the story mode very unique, and it made it stand out.

As for the multiple player section there was a number of new additions and fighting formats that actually improved the overall experience and gameplay of it, but there was also some aspect that made me frustrated at. My favorite aspects by far was the implications of the smash down and tournament sections. The have finally added a tournament section, and that makes me soooooo happy! I no longer have to make homemade tournament charts!!! T^T The shashdown is also very helpful to play with people who are really only good with one person, and that one person can pretty much wipe you out no matter what you do. It adds a lot of fairness to the game which succeeds in making it a lot more fun for the people out there who are good at a lot of characters, but not really good at just one (I actually sit in between these people. I have 3 mains who I like to fight as a lot, but I am decent at pretty much everyone else in the game. Well except for Mr. Game and Watch and Olimar. My mains by the way are: Mewtwo, Ganondorf, and Lucas.)

My main drawback with the multiplayer section of the game is actually how the rule selection is set up. For tradition Smash mode you have to go through the process of first choosing your rules for the match, picking you stage, and then choosing you fighter. This is path you always have to go down when entering in the smash mode after exiting the game. if you finish a match it just takes you back to the stage selection section. The problem exists when you finish a match, but you realize you made a mistake in the rule creation. In order to fix it you first have to back all the way out of the match, then open up the select rules tab that you specifically created for this match set, then edit what you want, finally save it, and then back out after selecting it and proceeding onto the rest of the match. Now this would not be as much as a problem if you were able to set a rule tab as default, so you could enterally skip that one step and continue onto the match. Also, if you were allowed to edit the rules while inside the match selecting process such as when you are choosing you stage because you forgot to turn off the stage morph or stage hazards or you start selecting you character and realize that the match is still on time and not on stock. If these features were implemented then the rule section would only need to be opened when it was needed to create a new set of rules. I am not saying that I dislike the aspect of creating a custom set of rules to use for match because I think that is a very nice user friendly option for the players, but I do think that it need a little more work to be better. This is a new feature that just needs a few bugs worked out, and the it would be perfect.

For the fighters and the battles themselves, I have stated previously that the theme of Smash Ultimate is, “Gotta Go Fast,” so that is what everything is. The speed of all the characters have improved - making all the heavy characters now usable competitively - as well as the final smashes. This speed change has really made the game itself into the fastest, most adgil, and adaptive are the best. So it is no surprise that Sonic, Mewtwo, and Inkling has all made it into the top tiers for being if not the fastest, most adgil, and adaptive characters in the game respectively. The final smashes on most of the characters have changed in one way or another, some for the better and some for the worse.  There is now a feature also to do diagonal air doges as well which helps out considerable for air movement and combat. Also the idea of perfect shielding has been improved, so it grants the player a chance attack the opponent when their defences are down a bit. There is not really much else to say in this area.

I am not going to touch on the classic mode much or the all-star mode much because they are pretty much the same as the previous game. Classic mode you fight about 6 battles with the last being either Master Hand or both Master Hand and Crazy hand at varying levels of difficulty. All-star mode is continuous matches with short breaks in between which goes on until you fight and defect every single smash fighter. I will only say this, which I have already stated before, I missed the small platforming levels inside Classic mode. It added something different to the overall flow which was a nice change of pace and mixed up the game some. 

Overall Smash Ultimate is an amazing game that has blown not only mine but everyone elses socks off. From the vast amount of characters included to the thoughtful and in depth storyline, and all of the new features that it includes. I sincerely believe that Mr. Sakurai has outdone himself, and is in need of a well needed vacation. He has done an amazing job at trying his best at making every fan and every series present in this game feel loved. With all of that though I will be honored to give Super Smash Bros Ultimate an astounding score of a 9/10. Splitting each part up into its various categories the World of Light Story mode receives a not too shabby 8.5/10. This is because of the lack of platforming areas (tear) and for the lack of official lore or true story line which has left a lot of fans trying to actually deceivers what it means, me included (given my own interruption above). Then with the multiplayer section receiving an impressive 9.5/10. Only docking off points for the wonky rules section which could possibly be fixed in a later update.

“Things We Know By Heart” by Jessi Kirby

Literally yesterday I finished reading the book Things We Know By Heart by American writer Jessi Kirby. Basically, the book left in my memory (as in my heart) only positive feedback. But there were moments that I didn’t really like (it's only in my opinion). I will try not to stretch anything for a long time, but to state everything clearly and in the matter.

First of all, it's worth to introduce you to the subject of the book, which seemed very tempting and interesting to me. In short, the whole story revolves around the experiences and thoughts of one character – Quinn – the main character who lost her beloved person. After his death, her life stopped, plans for the future collapsed overnight. Soon she finds out that the heart of her dead boyfriend is transplanted to another guy – Colton – and she decides to find him in the hope that he will help her forget about her dead boyfriend.

It is not difficult to guess that the book contains a love line that unfolds throughout the book and affects the formation of both characters. Colton is not at all like the former Quinn’s boyfriend, so she is afraid to trust a new feeling. In addition, she still doesn’t dare to inform him about the true reason for their meeting. She is scared. Afraid to lose him, because thanks to Colton she again returned to normal life.

Of the main characters – Quinn and Colton – I liked most of all Colton, namely his life principles. Despite the fact that he spent most of his teenage years in the hospital in the hope that there will be a suitable donor heart, he never loses optimism and desire to live. Unlike Quinn, who put an end to her future and present after the death her boyfriend. The motto of Colton is very simple: "Live every day. Every day is the most beautiful day". And, as for me, this is correct. Despite dozens of restrictions and medications, he lives every day as the best in his life. Do not lose time.

His most important secret, which he hides from Quinn, is the fact that another man's (hers boyfriend) heart beats in his chest.

It is worth mentioning that the story in the book is conducted on behalf of Quinn – we know exactly what she feels and what she thinks. This helped me fully understand her character, helped me to understand her better.

But sometimes she made me mad. Basically her own, so to speak, whining and the fact that she turned herself into a nineteen-year-old widow, for whom the future doesn’t matter. Yes, losing a loved one is incredibly difficult, a few months a person needs to be rehabilitated from loss. Quinn is different. If it hadn’t been for Colton, she would have turned into a shadow of herself. When she had tender feelings for Colton, she kept convincing herself that she was betraying her dead boyfriend that she shouldn’t succumb to a new feeling.

But thanks to the secondary characters who convinced her of the opposite. Basically, it is the merit of her older sister Ryan – a very energetic and optimistic character – who convinced her that there was nothing wrong with her falling in love with Colton. There is nothing terrible that she again wants to live normally.

In this book you will also find a lot of ocean and beautiful sky. The most pleasant, for me, were moments where events unfolded near the ocean or in the ocean. The fact is that Colton teaches Quinn to float on a kayak, in the process of which she shows her many beautiful and atmospheric places. Such exits into the ocean are the direct plus of the whole book.

As for me, the book makes the reader think about the value of life – about not having to be afraid to try or feel something new. Colton – that before the illness, that after – never stopped, but always went ahead, to meet things that he always dreamed of trying, of feeling. He doesn’t stop for a minute, but simply does what he wants. On his example, the author proves to us that whatever bad has happened to us, we must always love life and take from it everything that it gives us.

By the number of cute and romantic moments – teenage audience will like this book. But, in my opinion, it can be read by any adult, since the book really gives food for thought. Characters are very attractive; the whole atmosphere around them is just as pleasant. After reading, my book is full of notes and bookmarks.
