adding onto the v funny beholding discussion: everyone in jonah's time seemed to think that he was far too much of a little freak to hang out with, so of course he's like !!! when he meets gertrude & jon.

yes!! one of my favorite characteristics of the beholding4beholding character dynamics is how they are just...Legitimately Compatible. they get along!! We don't really see this so much with Elias and Gertrude in canon, simply because we don't see them interact much (except when he's killing her lmao but even then there is certainly a familiarity there, I mean "i suppose we both got a little compliant, fifty years is a long time" come ON) but we certainly see it with Elias and Jon. It's so interesting because these are all characters who are at odds with each other in the narrative! They don't trust each other, they aren't even on the same side here. They may be working together right now but everyone's expecting a betrayal eventually. but like...they enjoy hanging out together. they LIKE each other, even though logically they shouldn't, given the situation. It's about the self-recognition through the other y'know? This is particularly an element in jonelias but I think Elias and Gertrude had it to an extent as well. There's a sort of energy that's like *sigh* "unfortunately we enjoy each other's company" that I think is so fun about it.

So I have been working on an idea for an original fantasy story and was considering sharing it. A basic summary is that if focuses on students of a school for heroes and mages, with most of the students being based on legendary figures from different cultures.

....thinking i might want to add Lonan’s perspective into my book for 1-3 chapters....

Lonan is living in the city while he’s away at college, and as Ray’s problems ensue at home in Point Blink, he faces plenty of his own challenges to become accustomed to city life. These include facing up to the past and meeting his new roommate:

Growing up, my father always fell asleep with the television on. Beer bottles and crumpled chip bags lay attacked on the coffee table and even the floor as bad comedians said their final lines and wildebeests were killed in nature documentaries. Mom never cleaned the house or made breakfast – she was careful not to make noise when she got dressed for her job – so Dad didn’t feel rushed to wake up for anything. His eyes were red when he peered at me in the morning, just standing at the edge of the fold-out couch.

Vick was completely the opposite of this: he rose before his alarm and went shopping so I could cook, washed all our laundry together, and left his bedroom door open even though I always kept mine shut.

“What’ve you got to hide in there?” he’d asked me at the end of our first week living together.

Nose buried in my sketchbook, I merely shrugged and scratched his tabby named Bagel around her ears. “You’ve lived here for a year all alone. Do you really want to show a stranger all your stuff?”

“Ouch. You’re not really a stranger anymore since we’re living together now. And by the way, I have nothing to hide.”

“Why do you need to know what’s in my room?”

Vick made a face. “I don’t need to know. I thought it might be cool to hang out together sometime. If you want.”

The cat made a low grumble, and jumped off the couch.  I rose both my eyebrows at Vick. “When?”

Vick patted his stomach and laughed. The tattoos – oranges and yellows and blues – on his forearm flexed. “Do you need a formal invitation to hang out with your roommate?”

I shrugged.

“Well, Lonan Herrings, you are formally invited to my bedroom.”

....maybe this will be a good idea or a bad idea - who knows! I think it’s relevant to the story and actually helps explain some plot whilst taking a break from the same old stuff. anyways, I’m having lots of fun with it :)

I really just love Lonan, okay ‘-’

Feedback Needed on a thingy!

Hi everyone, this is Penwrythe and I would like to get some feedback on something!

Over the past three years, I have been working on my worldbuilding project, World of Relics! This setting has sub-worldbuilding projects: Rise of Relics and the Mundane Realm. World of Relics features living objects in a high fantasy setting. They are kind of like the classic fantasy mimics from RPG games and stories, just without the flesh-eating part, lol.

Update on Pyroblast the War-Torch (Paintbrush II fanart)

I sketched out their facial and head anatomy. I like a naturalistic style with my object characters, so I added a slight curve on Pyroblast's head. I also gave them a fuller pompadour bristle style, too! Details below!

Wing anatomy was something I was stuck on for a bit, mostly because I was bouncing between robotic wings vs a more naturalistic bird-like wing. While designing this, I realized that polearm war-objects like Pyroblast would need some protection on their wing joints and shoulder. So I added a pauldron over the should joint that overlaps with the start of the wing and a segmented couter(?) at the elbow. I also added segmented bands over the metal primary feathers of Pyroblast's wing.

As for the material makeup of a polearm's anatomy: Both flying and ground polearms are made of strong light metals and wood. The wings of a flying polearm are made up of aluminum/thin steel sheets (still researching this) enchanted with spells to strengthen them for combat, flight, and high temperatures. Pyroblast is a Heavy Class General Dread-torch, so their materials need to handle stress from high heat from their fire magic, extreme turbulence from the dynamic flight, and from any attacks from other Dread-torches.

Lower rank war-torches are mostly for aerial attacks on ground armies, while Dread-torches are castle destroyers. Castles would need defense against Dread-torches, either from using Dread-torches of their own (provided from their kingdom's capital, usually for heavily targeted castles) or using other means of anti-air defense.

I'm thinking about using this design for future flying polearms set in the Mundane Realm. For RFR, I might use a more simplified style to show how the first flying polearms still kept most of their original weapon shape before the Inversion Event.

I just rewatched the scene between Carlos and Sadie.

Listen. That scene was so intense, I couldn’t peel my eyes away from watching Carlos watch Sadie, and how he responded at times with just his facial reactions. Julie and Rafa were incredible. I felt like I was watching a scene on Criminal Minds, and it was so damn good.

And I just have to say this—

Season after season, Rafa just keeps raising the bar. 👑👑👑

The highlight of that awkward run-in was definitely Carlos and Rafa’s comedic delivery. It took me right back to his “you’re understandably on alert, Captain” moment in 2x10. 😂

Then the seamless switch over into Carlos frantically realizing one of the volunteers is missing?

Rafa doesn’t waste a single second of screen time. All the kudos. 👑
