there’s this game show called The Floor where you have to identify things based on images or text and there was an “A-Listers” category where they had a pic of Lin-Manuel Miranda and the contestant said “idk, somebody’s brother?” And I just sat there like

ok so i figured out why the songs in the new disney movie Wish suck so bad - for the movie celebrating 100 years of mostly animated movie MUSICALS, they didn’t get a songwriter who writes MUSICALS. they got two POP songwriters (Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice, who’ve written for a lot of big stars like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, etc). despite lin-manuel’s faults, that man can cook up a song and had won a tony even before hamilton. there’s a reason moana and encanto went crazy. the anderson-lopezes made frozen and frozen II a HIT. maybe if they didnt have them chained to a desk writing two more frozen movies they could’ve worked on Wish instead. the ICON alan menken completed his EGOT from the daytime emmy he won for writing a song just for the tangled TV SERIES in 2020, and they couldnt even get him back?! for the movie celebrating 100 years of animated musicals?!!!
one of the directors of the film is Chris Buck, who did Tarzan - that movie only really has one or MAYBE two songs sung by the characters, and is mostly a soundtrack by Phil Collins instead. but thats a FULL soundtrack that was supposed to be pop the whole way through, not a musical.
one of the only times they got a pop songwriter to do an animated musical was Elton John for the Lion King, but he went on to write several popular musicals after that.
they got a big Broadway star like Ariana Debose, and a big Hollywood star who can really sing like Chris Pine, on that movie and gave them POP composers? for the 100th anniversary? this is the studio that made HAMLET WITH LIONS and a BOOK BY VICTOR HUGO into legendary animated musicals. what the FUCK happened? which executive made this stupid ass choice?

Pls can we get headcannons for each boys face Disney musical?
-- Cove is OBSESSED with "Moana." Completely and fully just out of his mind obsessed. He was 19 when it came out, so it's not like Cliff or Kyra showed it to him. Maybe MC took him to see it or showed it to him during a hangout later, maybe he got curious at the advertisements and watched it himself, either way, he gets a little fixated.
-- I'm not saying he pretends to be Moana when he's in the ocean, but maybe he pretends to be Moana when he's out in the ocean.
Cove: *driving, focusing on the road, mindlessly singing* I've been staring at the edge of the water long as I can remember --
MC: lol what
-- Names a fish Moana. Gets a little figure. I could go on but I think you get it.
-- When he was little though, and I know this is obvious, but his parents let him watch "The Little Mermaid" because they thought he'd like it and of course he did. He'd introduce specific Little Mermaid tidbits when playing mermaids with MC -- find a crab and name it Sebastian, that sort of thing.
-- Derek feels like a "Lion King" boy and I don't know why, but that's the vibes. Also "Aladdin." Also "A Goofy Movie."
-- Really I think what we're getting at here is that Derek is the one who actually likes Disney musicals in general. He has always and will always be down to watch one.
-- He watched "Encanto" when it came out and LOVED it but felt too many feelings when he heard "Surface Pressure."
-- Baxter holds this one a little close to the chest, but he can probably recite every single word from "Mary Poppins."
-- He didn't watch all the latest movies like Derek did and like Cove did sometimes, but "Mary Poppins" was a big one for him. It made him feel fancy as a kid that his favorite Disney movie was an old one, and also it's just a good movie.
-- Got a little emotional when "Mary Poppins Returns" came out. Thinks that one is good too, he always loves a good song and dance number, but nothing can top the original.
-- He did watch "Hercules" though, because he likes Greek mythology. May or may not have thought Zeus was hot.

It's very confusing to me why people treat Lin like the anti-christ, In the Heights? Good, Hamilton? Good, Moana? Good, Encanto? Good, His Dark Marerials? Good. He's a bit cheesy but what latinx man isn't? Maybe it's because I live in latam but that's just how men are in general and he hasn't ruined any project he's been a part of that I have watched

Hi could I please request something from Disney mirrorverse , how would Yandere rivals go between Maui vs Rapunzel with a darling who came from our world if not maybe the darling a fierce warrior from her dimension? 🌸(it can be romantic or platonic or neural )
Hm, sure! I'll see what I got! Tangled and Moana are some of my favorite movies (Other than Wall-E and Encanto), especially for soundtracks, so I'm hyped!
Also, apologies for calling "Fractured" the "Shattered" last Mirrorverse fic, that's fixed now.
Edit: Sorry this isn't that intense, I couldn't figure out how to place any violent scenes so it's more just heavy manipulation.
Yandere! Mirrorverse! Maui vs Yandere! Mirrorverse! Rapunzel
(Darling from the real world)
Pairing: Romantic/Platonic - Rivalry
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Overprotective behavior, Clingy behavior implied, Jealousy, Isolation, Dubious companionship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rapunzel is described in Mirrorverse as being full of energy and determination.
She leaps headstrong into adventure and was granted great strength and healing powers.
She is a great healing ally for her team.
Maui is described in Mirrorverse as strong and witty.
He is primarily known for his strength as a guardian, making him an excellent tank.
Of course, these guardians also share traits with their normal selves.
Rapunzel is smart, clever, playful, kind, naive, adventurous, etc.
Maui is egotistical, mischievous, self-centered, brash, occasionally bitter, insecure, brave, etc.
You meet these two upon being sent to the Mirrorverse.
As you are from our world, you may not have any powers.
Yet maybe the Stellar Mirror gave you some magic to survive in this land of Fractured.
Maybe even meeting Rapunzel and Maui was fate.
When you first enter the Mirrorverse you are confused.
You're scared when Fractured come to attack, only to be saved by Rapunzel and Maui.
Maui takes time to wipe out the Fractured while Rapunzel gets to work on healing you.
You aren't safe until they take you back to base, getting you checked and asking about yourself.
Rapunzel is the one to ask the questions, her tone is gentle as she learns about you.
When you explain where you came from, Rapunzel and the rest of the guardians are confused at first.
Then again, it can't be too different, can it?
Many guardians come from all sorts of backgrounds.
Although Rapunzel can tell from your tone you really want to get home.
So until they find a way to get you home, you're put on a team with Rapunzel and Maui.
Even if you have limited/no magic, these two can protect you the best they can through your journey.
With Maui's strength and Rapunzel's healing, you'll be fine.
The biggest issue you're dealing with... is the attachment Rapunzel and Maui have towards you.
I have a feeling Rapunzel would be very gentle and caring in her obsession but can be assertive if someone does something she doesn't like.
Meanwhile Maui would be charismatic, assertive, and charming towards his obsession regardless of his intentions.
As this is a rivalry, both of them realize how they feel towards you.
Plus, they both feel the other isn't a good fit.
Rapunzel thinks Maui will get you hurt and won't care for you as much as she can.
Maui has similar feelings except it's because he feels Rapunzel can't protect and support you as much as he can.
They could be fighting over who's your closest friend... who's your lover... something in between... but there's one thing they do agree on.
They don't want you going back home.
Can't you tell you're needed here?
They assure you they they're "looking".
However... they aren't.
Instead the two are bickering about who gets to keep you/who you like more.
Even when Mickey says he's found a way to bring you home, your two yanderes hide that info from you.
That's the one thing they agree on.
Both of the guardians want to protect you here in the Mirrorverse.
In their eyes, protecting you is keeping you here.
After all... they can't protect you if you aren't here.
What if you get hurt?
Who will be there to comfort you?
Don't you feel secure in Maui's strong arms?
Don't you feel cared for when Rapunzel speaks to you and heals your wounds?
Maybe you were brought here for a reason?
Ever thought maybe you belong here?
Maui and Rapunzel certainly think so.
While the two continue to quarrel on who deserves you, they keep telling you lies.
You should just stop trying to go home...
You belong here... with one of them.

guys I have an idea for how it would got if house of mouse came back
@orchestra-of-demonic-screeching @champmorado @x0stormie0x @anemoia42 @thisismisogynoir
Tumblr media
Imagine the house of mouse starting off with Mickey announcing to the gang that hes rebooting the show, this time inviting not only the new Disney characters in store, but also the Pixar characters!
There’s the Toy Story gang, the Bug’s Life gang, Monster’s Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and everyone else in the Pixar studio is invited to join this new show in the House of Mouse. The new Disney characters such as those from Wish, Encanto, Frozen, Tangled, Moana, etc is also invited.
That includes…the villains.
But we’ll get to them later.
anyways, Mickey and the gang feel overwhelmed with how many more guests there are now, with Mickey especially feeling like he isn’t doing enough and isn’t being grand enough for the “much more advanced and futuristic characters”. But Minnie reassures him and over time this inner conflict is resolved with great payoff. This will also connect with the second conflict of this:
The Pixar and Disney heroes not getting along. They have their tensions during the opening episode, but there’s a moment in the climax of it where they start arguing with each other about everything due to a big moment enacted by the villains.
Oh by the way, let me bring up those villains again!
Similar to ‘the House of Villains’, this time, The Evil Queen, Maleficent, Jafar, Chernabog along with Auto, Syndrome, Hopper, and Lotso lead the Disney and Pixar Villains into a total overthrowing of the house of mouse, getting all the protagonists kicked out while the antagonists and villains reign free in the house. We could have a little gag here where when the Disney villains are singing and they point to the Pixar villains, they just go “oh we don’t sing sorry lol” and they have an “ok whatever” moment and continue.
This makes the tensions between the Pixar and Disney characters that were previously established reach its peak. It starts off with one of the Disney characters saying that it was the Pixar characters’ fault for not stopping them since they’re so much more advanced than the Disney characters. It then blows off from there, and, at least for me, I’d wanna see a moment in this huge argument where someone shames mater for being just an idiot tow truck, with lightning defending his best friend by saying “oh so dopey and goofy are allowed to be silly but mater can’t? Give me a break!” Or maybe something where lightning or mater respond but this time making fun of the early disney princesses for just being damsels in distress who sing with animals, with the princesses gasping in shock and the sidekicks of snow, cinderella and aurora being like “how DARE you!” (Especially grumpy because. He’s Grumpy). You could only pick one to keep the consistency but both are funny ideas for this.
This argument ends abruptly with Mickey yelling “ENOUGH!” which leaves everyone silent. He starts talking about how all the fighting they’ve been having is not only pointless, but extremely damaging to any chances they have at taking back the house. He goes on saying that the Pixar and Disney villains were able to cooperate and they become stronger, and if the protagonists couldn’t do the same in time then they’d be letting the villains take over everyone’s worlds. The other Pixar characters such as (but not limited to) woody and buzz join in as well as other Disney characters talking about their stories and how they’ve had to grow to understand others to get to their goals and more importantly to not let evil prevail. There’s a little heart to heart before Carl from Up interrupts saying “well, how are we gonna defeat them together? We can’t just believe in the power of friendship to do this!” and then Mickey gets an idea. And the training montage starts.
Mickey and his gang along with Woody and his gang of friends are the leaders of the operation, and they decide to use the magic of Disney and the technology of Pixar and mix them together. Thinking of Antonio from encanto leading the bug’s life characters into battle, miguel and moana getting an epic team up with maui as they fight against tamatoa, and some other cool stuff with other characters but the thing that I’m thinking about the most (because I’m a die hard cars fan and since this probably won’t happen I don’t have to worry about the other characters) is the idea of LIGHTNING MCQUEEN MATER AND THE OTHER CARS CHARACTERS DRIVING WITH TINKERBELL’S PIXIE DUST. LIKE IMAGINE LIGHTNING ZOOMING BY AND ABSOLUTELY BESTING CHICK IN A RACE WHILE FLYING WITH TINK’S PIXIE DUST AND MATER BEATING UP THE LEMONS WHILE A BUNCH OF GLITTER IS EMITTING FROM HIM OMGGG
Also like tinker bell teaching them how to control themselves while flying with her little bell voice and them learning how to steer and stuff and lightning stumbling a bit in the beginning omggg
but the final act comes from sorcerer Mickey. There’s a moment where the villains are weakened where Maleficent decides to transforms into her dragon form as a way to finish the battle quickly. Mickey shows up in his wizard attire and they go in a final battle which ends with Mickey winning, and saying that the villains are allowed in the house of mouse, but ONLY if they don’t pull a stunt like that again, which they reluctantly agree to.
This ends the opening episode for the new house of mouse, and with the heroes from Pixar and Disney being closer now.
Now here’s some ideas for other episodes in this new house of mouse. Keep in mind this is all cars related because I am a massive fan of cars, and I’m not really thinking of the other franchises for this as it probably is not gonna happen. If you have any ideas for the other characters though, feel free to share them in the notes!
here’s the first idea:
Lightning and Mater enter the house of mouse, with lightning talking about how great Cruz has been in training and in her races, as well as both of them just being glad that they’ve found the time to be in the house of mouse again. But then, we focus our attention to the evil queen from Snow White, who has a new magic mirror after her old one quit to work as Walt Disney’s co-host (my headcanon btw LMAO). She asks her iconic question and it shows that MATER is the fairest now, due to his naturally optimistic and kind personality and how everyone enjoys his company. She then decides to try and kill mater, first using some poisoned gas to try and kill him. Lightning, who knows exactly what’s going on, kicks the can of gas away before mater can consume it. We get a whole montage of the evil queen in her hag form trying numerous ways to kill mater but failing as the episode progresses while the different cartoons are played, only with the hag having a breakdown after not being able to kill him. Mater asks what’s wrong and the queen replies saying that she just wanted to be the fairest in the land, which mater says he can help with, since “that’s what a tow truck does!” The episode ends off on a comedic note, kind of similar to that one 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoon short, where despite still being an ugly hag, the queen is much happier than she was before, and mater being proud of himself for helping someone out (while lightning is slightly uncomfortable but still happy for his best friend).
now here’s the second one:
Here we have lightning and mater in the house of mouse again, this time with lightning remarking that he hasn’t been spending much time with Sally, especially since he’s started training cruz. He goes to look for her with mater only to find her hanging out with…the Disney villains! She’s seen sitting at a table and laughing with all the female Disney villains, such as Maleficent, lady Tremaine, cruella, madame Medusa, the evil queen, and more. Lightning shows up to the table asking her why she’s hanging out with the villains of all people, with her replying that yeah sure they may be a bit eccentric, but they’re actually fun to hang around. The episode progresses with this conflict and Lightning realizes that because he has been neglecting time with Sally, she actually feels a little hurt because of it, even though she knows racing means a lot to him. Lightning convinces Sally to not hang with the villains and apologizes to her for not giving enough love to her, which Sally forgives him for. This one isn’t as strong in my head as the first one but if I think it through it can be decent.
hope yall liked this train wreck of a post though! I might add more who knows lol

U know there r a lot of things I wish the 2023 Haunted Mansion movie could've done better, but there's one thing I really wish we could've gotten. More emotion/enthusiasm from Alistair.
More below the cut
Yes, I know he's a poor repressed little meow meow, but really, I think if he were just slightly more... idk animated? About things, he would better. Now, when I say enthusiastic and animated, I don't mean like how current Disney characters (i.e., Wish, Frozen, Encanto, Moana, etc) act because that's way too much. I mean, he could've had more personality behind it. The closest I can compare my vision to is if we go with some of Claude Frolo's anger and some of Scar's sas and cunning. Idk if anyone else can see it, but me. But I totally think it would give depth to his dialog and give him some personality. The most personality we get is a whole lot of very stereotypical creepy laughter, that near monotone "toodloo.", and that he mentions taffy. I've literally scrapped a hole through the bottom of the barrel. All that we know about his personality is from his backstory. We learn about his traits, but we don't really get to see him portraying them on screen. For him to be a certified classic Disney villain that's been around for ages and doesn't get the proper Disney villain personality (that isn't overdone) is tragic.

What goes on during movie night ?
Ooh okay so movie night:
It's just absurdly hard to decide what to watch. Movies are brutal for the family. No one likes the same things, but they somehow always have fun? They have to institute a family decision making process, and this is how it goes:
It's in order of age. Jake (1), Neytiri (2), Spider (3), Neteyam (4), Kiri (5), Lo'ak (6), and Tuk (7). (Mo'at is 8 when she is around, and when she is she somehow always wins).
Whenever a decision needs to be made, Jake has Neteyam have Siri (Jake does not understand how to use Siri) pick a number between 1 and 7 and whoever's number it lands on makes the decision. This ruling is absolutely final, and the only rules are that parents can overrule for safety and that the same number can't be picked back to back.
Neytiri wins a suspicious amount of time. It's simply Eywa's will. When Neytiri wins they watch a lot of documentaries and classic rom coms. Jake always complains the loudest to annoy her, but then him and Neyetam are on the ground on the floor up close fascinated by the horror of US prison system or by the absurdity of 27 Dresses.
Jake, in contrast, almost never wins. When he does it's always the worst comedy ever but like, the most fun night. It's Grown Ups 2 or The Naked Gun, and Neytiri is trying so hard not to laugh in the corner while covering Tuk's ears and glaring at Lo'ak when he laughs at the jokes.
Lo'ak only wants to watch terrible action movies. This is everyone's favorite night lowkey. No one would ever admit it, but the movies are such a brain break, and they love how much they can annoy Lo'ak during them. They're all munching on popcorn and lounging on the couch absolutely destroying the logistics of The Fast and The Furious.
Neteyam, through a mouthful of popcorn: How would one car cushion the fall of another car?
Spider, throwing m&ms into Kiri's mouth: Oh, it wouldn't, that's a double car pancake.
Lo'ak: IT'S JUST A MOVIE, MY GOD.
Jake, intercepting an m&m: As long as you don't think you can drive off of a helicopter, son.
Kiri: well, you could, right, you just wouldn't live.
Lo'ak: PLEASE.
Tuk wins and they watch a classic Disney/Pixar film. No one pretends to hate these nights. Everyone loves Encanto and Moana. Jake is a huge Olaf fan. Spider and Lo'ak's remote-microphone renditions of every song in Camp Rock are legendary. Everyone has joined in at some point, by the end of the movie the family are all exhausted and sweaty and the amount of blackmail on Jake's phone is wild.
Neteyam's picks are always extremely snobby Oscar level A24 films. Tuk always falls asleep. Lo'ak and Jake play games on their phones and miss things and then ask stupid questions and it drives Neteyam insane. He's never angrier than when Jake asks the dumbest question ever that was answered earlier during the peak moment of Three Billboards.
Kiri's picks are super pretty nature documentaries. These nights are instant nap time for Jake, Lo'ak, and Tuk, piled on top of each other on the couch. Spider, Kiri, Neytiri and Neteyam share a carton of ice cream right in front of the tv and marvel at the pretty animals. One time when they are all older teenagers, Lo'ak and Spider decide to take edibles before this endeavor and Jake catches them so they give him one as a bribe and the three of them cry when a lion kills a zebra. It is very obvious but also very funny to everyone else. Also Jake ratted them out to Neytiri right away but said "Babe, they included me! ☺️" so Neytiri let it happen.
Spider's picks are crazy. He's all over the place. For a long time post his adoption, when they were little, he picks whatever movie the person he's felt he most recently pissed off he thinks would like best. Lo'ak discovers this quickly and begins to start a fight with him right before movie night lol. Neytiri and Jake were very suspicious when Spider was like "no I actually want to watch Jackass and it's not because you grounded me yesterday, Jake." Eventually he does pick his own stuff (he likes Homeward Bound and Cheaper by the Dozen) but sometimes he does still pick what his siblings want.

Nimona-verse but it's slightly altered Disney dialogues...
The Director: I only had this one shot. The Director: Two to three entire decades worth of planning to get rid of that commoner, knight wannabe. The Director: And it all went up in smokes BECAUSE YOU WERE WEARING. HIS. MERCHANDISE Diego, chagrined: His... Official, certified armor actually... The Director: GAAAAAAAAAAAH!
-Hercules
Tumblr media
Ambrosius: Bal! Will you get over here and give me a hand? Ballister, throwing his prosthetic at him: Ambrosius: Ambrosius: That's cute, and I really love you... BUT THIS IS SERIOUS!
-Toy Story
Tumblr media
Ambrosius, taking deep and calming breaths: I am more than a descendant of Gloreth... Nimona: Nimona: If you start singing, I'm gonna throw up.
-Moana
Tumblr media
Ballister: You might survive longer if you stop shifting. Nimona: I don't want to survive, I WANT TO LIVE!
-Wall•E
Tumblr media
The Director: THAT THING... Ballister: Her name is Nimona. The Director: What? Ballister: She has a name. The Director: It's not supposed to have a name, a name makes it more relatable... The Director: NOW PUT THAT THING BACK TO THE SHADOWS FROM WENCE IT CAME, OR SO HELP ME!
-Monster's Inc
Tumblr media
Ambrosius: You... Ballister, grinning expectantly: Ambrosius: You fight good. Ballister, deflates: Oh, uh, thanks. Queen Valerin, clearing her throat: While red roses are absolutely divine and at times, the obvious choice, there's an enchanting beauty to a black rose that may appeal to you more. Ambrosius and Ballister, confused: Your majesty? Queen Valerin, speaking plainly to Ambrosous: If you choose to give Ballister Boldheart, formerly Ballister BLACKheart, your heart, then redo that entire thing and TELL HIM.
-Mulan
Tumblr media
The Director: You can talk to me. Ambrosius: [Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the Gloreth descendant they want you to be. Conceal, don't feel, don't let her know! Don't let her—] Ambrosius: No, I'm fine.
-Frozen
Tumblr media
Ambrosius: Bal, I know we had our... Issues the last couple of hours, but I'm ready to hear you out and be a better boyfriend to you. So, how about we just grab some nachos and... Hug it out? Ballister: Hug. It. Out? Ballister: You chopped off my arm. Ballister: You were going to have me arrested without hearing me out. Ballister: HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!
-Encanto
Tumblr media
The Director: I should've known a filthy commoner like you would foolishly decide to befriend a monster. Ballister: Nimona's no monster, director. YOU ARE!
-Beauty and the Beast
Tumblr media
Ambrosius: And after years of planning, planning, and planning for the asking... He finally said yes. Ballister: Ambi~ Ambrosius, groaning: Fiiiine~ He asked me. Ballister: And he said yes, so we're living happily ever after and working on adopting Nimona. Nimona: Yes, yes they are.

as an avid listener of both lmm and taylor, it's interesting to me that my interest and affection have gone down for taylor and remain constant for lin - when arguably the past 2-3 years have never been a better time to be a taylor swift fan, and never been a worse time to be a lmm fan.
both are mainstream and have mega viral songs. both have different struggles in the public eye - taylor being a woman (the 2010s were absolutely vile to her), lmm being latino (i will never shut up about how people would be so much nicer to him if he was a conventionally attractive white man). both arguably have recognizable styles that some people really don't like.
and yet. in the past few years i've grown less and less enthusiastic about taylor's music, and i think it's because she doesn't treat it like music. does that make sense? her fans aren't real people making time from their day for her, they're consumers. her album is content for sale. maybe this is unfair and just because of her marketing strategies or whatnot, but that's how i feel. and i've never been invested in her personal life, so it has nothing to do with that.
for all the heat that people give lmm, some of it justified, i don't think you can say that he doesn't care. does he act "cringey"? sure! and idgaf, because i much prefer raw, unfiltered enthusiasm than a cool idgaf attitude especially in today's age of microtrends and media. i don't think you can listen to the man talk about his projects without realizing how much he cares about what he's made.
and i dunno, that's bled over a lot to the point where i'm excited for his future projects whether or not i think i'll like them. there's trust that even if it's not to my taste, i'll be able to tell that it's been made with something, not shipped out of a factory. and i'm even moreso excited about his new musical because as much as i enjoyed moana and encanto, he's the type that really shines when he's fully doing what he wants, i think. something as nerdy and niche like an alexander hamilton musical, for example.
anon, i've been thinking about your message the whole day & i literally have nothing else to add, i agree with you 100%

Pablo the Cold-Blooded Penguin (The Three Caballeros) (Pablo starts out living in the South Pole and then he goes to Chile, Peru, and Ecuador)
Africa
The Lion King
Tarzan
Asia
Aladdin is set in a mishmash of Middle Eastern countries. It was supposed to be in Iraq, but because of the Persian Gulf War, Disney said no, so it takes place in the fictional country of Agrabah, which is inspired by Baghdad in Iraq.
Raya and the Last Dragon is set in a mishmash of Southeast Asian countries, but takes the most inspiration from Vietnam
China: Mulan
India: The Jungle Book
Europe
England: The Wind in the Willows (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad), Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Winnie the Pooh, The Great Mouse Detective

Germany: Snow White, Tangled
Greece: The Pastoral Symphony (Fantasia), Hercules
Italy: Pinocchio
Norway: Frozen (Arendelle is heavily inspired by Norway)
Russia: Peter and the Wolf (Make Mine Music)

Wales: The Black Cauldron
North America
Mexico:
Las Posadas

You Belong to My Heart/Donald's Surreal Reverie (all from The Three Caballeros)
United States:
Different towns in Massachusetts and California have claimed to be the Mudville that Casey at the Bat (Make Mine Music) takes place in, but the author of the original poem said it has no basis in fact.
The Legend of Johnny Appleseed (Melody Time) - the real Johnny Appleseed (real name John Chapman) planted apple trees in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Ontario, and West Virginia
Lady and the Tramp could take place somewhere in New England
The Fox and the Hound looks like it takes place in Appalachia, so maybe Pennsylvania or Virginia

For everyone saying “How the heck did Lin Manuel Miranda get this role in Percy Jackson” HE IS AN ACTOR. Just because he is known for Hamilton doesn’t mean all his other work doesn’t exist. He has been in multiple shows before and after Hamilton. While yes he probably did get a leg up because of Disney, don’t forget that Lin is qualified to have acting roles like these. He isn’t a bad actor, I mean you can argue that he isn’t the best vocalist, but I highly doubt Hermes is going to have a musical number during this series.
Love him or hate him, Lin Manuel Miranda is talented. You don’t have to like Hamilton, or In The Hights, or Moana, or Encanto, or anything else he’s worked on. But Millions do. So idk why him getting a minor acting role is so strange for people to comprehend.
I will admit… the memes are funny. They always are

Wish (2023): Movie Review
Tumblr media
I have to start this by saying how much I hate the online discourse about this movie.
It's okay if you think this movie looks and sounds boring. It's okay if you don't want to support Disney anymore. And it's okay if you just don't want to watch it.
I see plenty of people saying you have to watch this, otherwise the studio will go back to releasing only sequels and remakes, and it's a very stupid argument. Movie executives are buttholes, and they always learn the worst lessons. Regardless of what Disney does next, it won't be because of the public.
You don't owe your time to Disney.
Said that, I loved this movie, and I struggle to see what exactly turned so many people off. I watched twice just to be sure, and I had an amazing time going through this movie.
Make no mistake, I feel like it definitely could be better. I feel like it's a weaker movie if compared with Tangled, Frozen, and Encanto, but along Encanto, it is definitely one of the most enjoyable entries in the WDAS catalogue since Moana in 2016.
The animation was great. I loved the texture and colors, especially in the night scenes. Some of the backgrounds gave me Silver Age Disney flashbacks, which is great because the Silver Age (1950 - Alice, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, etc.) is my absolute favorite era of the studio.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keep in mind, that I had to pirate this movie because it still hasn't come out here in Brazil, and even with the image being a bootleg filmed straight from the movie theater, the animation still looks impressive and beautiful.
Asha brings nothing new to a Disney Heroine, but Ariana DeBosse enfuses this character with life and makes it pretty likable. She never failed to make me laugh at the situations Asha finds herself. I think Asha is the perfect embodiment of a human disaster.
I hate the discourse about the Adorkable Disney Heroine that ModernGurlz brought up, because it pretty much feels like the Mary Sue discourse that I had to endure from Star Wars fans. People just regurgitate the online talking points, project their own grievances on them, and add nothing new to the conversation.
Asha and Anna are the only Disney heroines that really fall into the Adorkable character archetype, and even then they have enough character circunstamces to set them apart.
King Magnifico is a absolutely delicious villain. Chris Pine chews the scenario with this one. He is one of the few characters with a real arc, and is a corruption arc. I absolutely love how we see his insecurities, his pride, his narcissism, his greedy slowly take a tool on him. I love how he is not a villain from the start, but how he succumbs to villainy over the course of the movie.
Tumblr media
And no, Magnifico is not good or right under any circumstance. He is not a tragic hero guys.
I actually think it's funny how he has a character arc similar to Wanda Maximoff, but with fewer redeming qualities, and although people correctly called her out on it, because he is an attractive man people keep trying to find excuses for him.
The songs are bangers. I don't think the lyrics are that atrocious. I understand people not liking them, but they are meant to be playful, and the visuals during the their sequences absolutely sells them, at least for me.
On the downside, Wish's script is very underdeveloped, with some parts very rushed and not properly fleshed-out. But even with that it has very unique and original ideas that I wished had been explored better.
I love the theme of wishes and dreams being physical things that you can use to manipulation, harm, and control people. I think it has a lot of real life implications that I may explore on a different post.
The room with the wishes as magical blue orbes is the most striking scene for me.
Tumblr media
I don't know if the original concept was better and Disney forced the team to neuter their vision, or if Jennifer Lee just doesn't know how to write sincere fairy tales.
Either of these possibilities makes complete sense, especially since I don't like Jennifer Lee's vision for the studio.
Overall, Wish is a weak Disney film, and I understand people being disappointed, especially since it is meant to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the studio, but it still has plenty of things to enjoy.
It's very sweet, full of heart, and with so many live action remakes laying around, this isn't soulless at any point.
It definitely could be better, and we should expect better coming from one of the most powerful media corporation on the planet, but Wish isn't mediocre, and it doesn't deserve the online hate.
Wish is a good movie with good ideas and concepts, that could be better developed.
I especially struggle to see why this movie was so hated when some of Disney's more recent movies were much worse and didn't got that much negative attention.
Anyway, I think Asha and her friends deserve better and I love them so much.
Tumblr media
I just hope Disney doesn't lock up Asha and them on the vault. They totally deserve better from Disney and from the fans.

i know you’ve watched schmigadoon, and listened to hamilton, but what are your thoughts on other musicals, and musicals/musical theatre as a whole? yay or nay? favorites?
Well first, I’ve never stepped foot in a theater… so the closest I’ve come to seeing musical theater as it’s intended to be seen was Disney’s Hamilton performance. And maybe Norman Jewison’s Jesus Christ Superstar, which is more of a stage production in spirit than it is a movie.
There are a couple Original Cast Recordings that I adore: Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera, both of which I owned on CD and played incessantly back around 1989/1990.
(I discovered Phantom via a televised pairs figure skating performance —they skated to “Music of the Night”— which in turn led me to buy three Michael Crawford Sings Broadway CDs, and that introduced me to Sondheim and a few other things.)
With that said, I’ve enjoyed lots of movie musicals, many of which are based on stage productions.
Tumblr media
Given my age, it should be obvious that the first musical I saw was Grease. And among the movies on this list, it’s the one I’ve seen the most, and most recently… I rewatched it a year or two ago. (Along with Grease 2, about which the less said, the better. Michelle Pfeiffer looks annoyed to be in it.) That soundtrack was burned into my brain by 1970s radio DJs, so I’m quite fond of it, including the Barry Gibb/Frankie Valli original that plays over the credits.
Tumblr media
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was a particular favorite —then and now— but I don’t really think of it as a musical. The songs are catchy, but they feel tacked on, and the Oompa Loompas get the best one.
Tumblr media
Okay, this one is embarrassing, but… so be it. When I was ten, I owned the Xanadu soundtrack. On vinyl and 8-track. I loved every single song… ELO and Olivia Newton-John could do no wrong in my eyes. Then, years later, I finally saw the movie. And… yup, I’ve seen that. Definitely saw… that.
Tumblr media
Give My Regards To Broad Street isn’t a good movie in any conventional sense, but… Paul McCartney. That’s all it takes, if you ask me.
Tumblr media
We watched Little Shop of Horrors on the stream a year or two ago, and I still thoroughly enjoy it. “Suddenly, Seymour”, “Dentist!”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Feed Me” are all delightfully infectious… I can’t help singing along. Best Rick Moranis movie ever, too.
Tumblr media
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is another one we watched on-stream. I was never a joiner or a cosplayer, so I didn’t get into the participatory experience that is Rocky Horror, but I’ve watched it a few times now under more sedate circumstances. There are a few solid songs in there, but “Time Warp” is my favorite, simply because the 1980s music video show Night Flight —with Nina Blackwood!— used to play it almost every week.
Tumblr media
Moulin Rouge is a delight, and it features a song written by my all-time favorite singer-songwriter, David Baerwald: “Come What May”. Although he personally considers it a sell-out… if you know any of his work, it’s clear that the “love can conquer anything” idea behind the song is antithetical to his whole oeuvre. But I love it anyway.
Tumblr media
I enjoyed Into The Woods quite a lot —creepy Johnny Depp is the best Johnny Depp— but I’ve only seen it once, so it didn’t make a massive impression on me.
Tumblr media
In The Heights was… fine. Perhaps the strangest thing about it is that John Chu’s visuals are more interesting than LMM’s songs… which are better than Moana’s, but don’t approach the, er, heights of Hamilton or Encanto. Anthony Ramos is great, though.
Tumblr media
Spielberg’s West Side Story was another film that I basically enjoyed, but it’s one of those things that are so thoroughly baked into the culture —like Animal House— that you feel like you’ve already seen it, even when you haven’t. I probably should have opted for the Rita Moreno version.
Tumblr is being an asshole and limiting me to 10 GIFs, so I’ll follow this up with another post… I’ve got at least another ten to go.

Random rambling thoughts on ✨WISH✨ before the movie comes out
- This movie is for the sleeping beauty girlies… or at least IT HAS TO BE. Any other vibe and I’m gonna be extremely disappointed. It’s already giving medieval European fairytale with gorgeous animation so they can’t fumble this bag. I’m not really sure yet what I expect from the plot but I just need a sleeping beauty energy to it idk idk. I don’t really know what I mean by it cause sleeping beauty is so contradictory in itself, it’s so epic but also so quiet and calm and simple… we’ll see
- This movie is gonna comment on astrology and the horoscope right right??? You cannot do a movie about wishes and stars and not give us a peak into the starry night the characters look upon to and study! If I don’t have a scene of asha discussing constellations then what’s the point 😒 but like even just the aesthetics in the background or something. I need it
- I know everyone knows this movie is set in Spain but the official sources say Iberian peninsula and u bet your ass that, as a portuguese gal, imma remind y’all about it cause we get so little representation while the Spanish get everything well now they’ll have to share 😭😭😭😭😭
- Asha having friends is so anti Disney princess of her 😭😭😭 those other girls only talk to animals. Tiana and Pocahontas are the only girls with a bff and that’s only 1, Asha has 7 😭😭😭 I’m not very impressed with their designs but I guess they can grow on me
- I’m guessing the movie is entirely in the kingdom and it’s nearby places like tangled and sleeping beauty, as opposed to movies like moana or frozen that force them out of their home in a long journey
- Do u guys think the Easter eggs will be subtle or Ralph breaks the internet kind of in your face? Cause disney is making a lot of promises, dozens of Easter eggs right? But I think the in your face crossover will be just for the once upon a studio short, and in the movie the cameos will be more Easter eggs and subtle. (Out of topic but have y’all seen that Lego trailer for the Disney princesses vs Gaston thing? I’m telling y’all rn, disney in gonna give up an official disney animation studios movie of the princesses all together in an adventure before 2040!! IM JUST SAYING!)
- I hope the musical numbers take notes from encanto in the dynamism of we don’t talk about Bruno and dreamlike sequences from surface pressure. I just don’t love when characters are forced to be stuck in reality, it feels very limited. Animation is supposed to break those restrictions. And like, not every musical number has to be like this, but I just want more than a character singing in point A, B and C u know? And I like how, for example, a character would start singing the song and then the 2nd half is a montage? Or like in when will my life begin where she starts singing, but then it’s all montage and she just sings again at the end. (Uncharted waters was a very good song with a very boring scene let’s be honest, and something like that is criminal but it would be even worse in animation)
- I’m really not sure what to expect from the plot and I haven’t really thought a]much about it but rn, if I had to guess, I’d say the movie is about a kingdom that parallels present day USA kkkk hear me out!!! The kingdom had low days of war but fought for independence and began from scratch. This family has magic and can grant people’s wishes and promises the people the equivalent of the American dream. But as generations pass, the king starts collecting more and more wishes without ever intending to grant them to the people or maybe the price of the wishes keeps getting higher. The "American" dream doesn’t exist anymore but people still believe in it cause they are powerless but hopefull. Basically the movie is gonna be about dethroning a tyrant and dismantling capitalism 😃 (look I’m not good with words or brain power but I think u understand what I mean). Maybe the king’s magic is fake, he just knows how to work with the stars own magic while no one else can. And in the end, Asha and her friends are gonna Robin Hood their way into granting the peoples wishes or just make then see that wishing only goes so far as you’re willing to work for your dream??… but like I’m serious, I really think this movie is gonna be a shade to America and is gonna go against everything bob iger represents
