as shifty as they were when they were younger, at the actual age that andreil are at do you think they've got the potential to be friendly strangers? like not overly friendly but the kind of people who understand what being human is
think about it, the experience of living a sheltered life and neil is standing behind someone in the grocery line, watching them unable to scour up money for ramen and water so he pays for it to help things along
andrew watching a little kid peer into his mega expensive car of the year and the kid gets scared of him and moves aside but andrew opens the door moves back, tells the kid he can have a look its fine
do you think they would interfere by force if they ever saw something bad happening in front of them? neil on his runs stopping to help someone cross the road, feeding stray cats in alleyways, yk the people who know what struggle is and don't want it for anyone else?
idk if they're the type to shrug off injustice so easily, i feel like whatever they learnt as children is buried deep inside the caution and fear of strangers and all but maybe what wymack taught them would rise to the surface too cuz if wymack hadn't chosen to help them they wouldn't be alive either

some thoughts on jam that i want to share:
id say jay isnt really in touch with his emotions. throughout the series, he never really talks about how he feels aside from physically, and obviously if your blacking out constantly then you're going to be worried, but emotionally and mentally he never speaks about it. tim on the other hand; he speaks and is pretty open about his emotions once you're close. hes trying to get better, trying to find a solution, and is trying to live a normal life while mentally and physically getting better. theres many differences between those two, but i feel like the sole difference is how they handle themselves compared to the other. tim obviously gets worried about jays health as they begin to work together, and even makes jay get signed up for meds or therapy, i cant remember which one.
regardless—while tim is hard on jay sometimes, its mostly just to get him in touch with reality again. jay gets so incredibly unaware of how fucked up his actions are, but hes paranoid and struggling and doesnt know what to do. thrusted into a situation where a genuine child nightmare monster follows you no matter what you do and basically warpped your friends minds so badly that theyre just. a shell of the person they used to be. its not jays fault, but he makes it worse for himself because he desperately just wants answers and in the end, doesnt get any. and tim cant help. tim tries, he really does, but if somebody doesnt want help the only thing you can do is watch and hope they realize what they're doing.
they hold onto each other as they escape from whatever hell it came from, but never lay in the same bed and ask if this was really worth it.

If being weak is a "sin" in Crocodile's mind, then isn't a painful defeat and maybe even death rightful punishment for it? A punishment you deserve for your crime of "being weak"? That's an intriguing mindset from him because it makes me wonder how Crocodile might view his own past and the things he has gone through?
I might not go as far as to say Crocodile "blames himself" for the things he's gone through, as he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who dwells on the past like that. But I do feel like Crocodile has accepted in his mind that things like losing his hand happened because he was weak, and it was his own fault. That he can not blame anyone else for what has happened to him. He fucked around and he found out.
It's just interesting because to some degree, One Piece thematically does agree with this sentiment, this is a world where the strong eat the weak. (One example at the top of my head; Luffy refusing Katakuri's apology when his sister intervened with their battle, saying he should've dodged the attack properly if he didn't want to get hit.) Chaka falling in this scene and being unable to stop Crocodile may lead to the deaths of so many more, including his loved ones, and if that comes to pass, it's is Chaka's own fault. For being too weak.
But also Crocodile has twisted that idea; Crocodile is using his worldview here to justify himself and essentially saying he can do this (take over Alabasta and kill a million innocents doing so) and get away with it because he's powerful. When in reality "weakness is a sin" isn't about the survival of the fittest, but how this is a world where the strong are meant to protect the weak. (See: Luffy) (Also how Pell told Baby Vivi in that flashback about how he trains so he can protect the Royal Family; again, he he craves power not to oppress the weak but to protect them)
But, just to get back to Crocodile again, I feel like this worldview might also give us more insight as to how he acts in certain situations post-Alabasta.
Like when we see Crocodile towards the end of Miss Goldenweek's cover story, both when he declines to escape from jail and in his Impel Down mugshot, Crocodile has a smile on his face. That really is the face of a man who has accepted his fate, is it not?
"Welp, this is what I get for losing to a child in flipflops"
Or when we see him come collect his debt from Buggy; Crocodile seemed quite relaxed and fully admitted he had assumed Buggy would've ran away before he even got there to collect his money. Of course, considdering his trust issues Crocodile would've been mentally prepared for Buggy skedaddling anyways, but the fact that he loaned the clown money to begin with while assuming he'd probably never get that money back-- like Crocodile knew that was going to happen and he just accepted it. And just rolled with it.
Of course, when things take an Unpleasant, Unexpected Turn, he will blow a fuse. Multiple, even.
Him angy
IDK man this is all just interesting to me

TIPS FOR ALTERHUMANS WITH A SCHOOL UNIFORM / WHO WANNA BE SUBTLE:
- Make mini yarn tail keycains to hang on your bag
Teachers don't tend to care what kind of keycains you have as long as they aren't too big, and unless it's being worn like one, most people won't realise it's a tail. Of course it isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing.
- Draw the theta delta (therian symbol) on your pencil case/stationary
You could get into trouble for having something drawn on your hand/arm, so drawing it on your pencil case/stationary is the next best option. It still serves the same purpose of showing any other alterhumans that you are one too, but won't get you in trouble.
Of course this won't be for everyone, but if you are fine with your stationary having things drawn on then maybe try this.
- Decorate your bag with therian keycains/keychains that relate to your therio/kintype
This is similar to the first one. If you have any jewlery, it will probably be taken away, so you can't wear necklaces or bracelets with the theta delta or your therio/kintype on, but as I said before teachers don't care too much about keychains.
You might even be able to use jewlery as a keychain if you are able to take the charm off and put it on a clip (only do this if you are sure it will work - if you break your jewlery doing this then don't blame me).
- Wear a hat with ears on
There is a chance some teachers will confiscate your ears if you try to wear them at school, but as long as you aren't inside they won't take away your hat. It's pretty easy to find sun hats or wooly hats with animal (mostly cat) ears on.
The main problem with this is that people might be mean about it, but you can use the excuse that non-alterhumans wear animal hats all the time (this might not always work so be careful).
You could also wear headphones on the bus/in IT lessons that have ears on, but some teachers might not allow it.
Some coats also have ears on the hood.
- Put therian pins/pins of your therio/kintype on your bag
Very similar to the keychain one, you will most likely get into trouble for wearing pins on your clothing, but your bag is fine.
- Make the most of non uniform days
As long as you follow the non uniform dress code, you can pretty much wear all the gear you want. World book day is especially good for this, as any gear you wear won't be questioned as much. Just make sure you have a good explanation ready if anyone asks who you are dressed as.
Some of my favorites are:
"they're from [made up book], you probably haven't heard of it"
"I'm [animal character] as a human"
"I don't know, I panicked and just grabbed some random stuff from [younger sibling]'s room"
The main thing to be aware of is that people will probably still make fun of you if you wear a tail or ears, regardless of any excuses you give, but unless they actually find out about your alterhumanity it will probably die down over time.
- Wear gloves when you're outside
Fluffy gloves are the best subtle paws, as they feel just like paws and no one will ever question them (unless it's summer). You could even get paw print gloves, but they might be questioned.
That's all the ideas I have, feel free to reblog and add more.

arc 8 otto gets more and more deranged with every appearance i love it 😭😭😭😭 this chapter was a mainly otto centric one which was fascinating!!! URGH i have many thoughts :((( the whole chapter being about “walking with light”….. where otto acknowledges that:
and this is AFTER julius apologizes to otto and otto emphasizes to julius’s face that. yeah. julius is still an enemy. like yeah theyre exchanging more pleasant words now but otto specifically emphasizes that otto isnt a knight. julius isnt a merchant. julius is in another camp. theyre opposites T^T AND THEN roswaal telling otto that opposing emilia and subarus way of thinking is a poison that Will kill him. BUT THEN OTTO says
he cant walk with light meaning he cant see reality and still choose to be idealistic and noble like julius and emilia and subaru even though hes still trying to support emilia and subaru. :,,,))) and he admits that!!! hes still choosing to walk a darker path than them even knowing hes not as strong as others!!! even knowing that emilia and subaru will never agree with him and vice versa!!! hes walking alone, in a way T^T
