❥ A Dabi/ Touya Todoroki analysis ( also just some thoughts and telling the difference between fanon and canon). ❥

• Touya todoroki is an interesting one. I think I've always liked his character but it didn't really start to intrigue me until late season 5( cs i haven't read the manga, yet).

• So just like all of the villains in the series he didn't wake up one day and choose mass murder. It was a process, chip by chip, little punches here (metaphorically) a couple kicks there until he starts to crack. The whole idea of being the n.o1 hero, being the best was instilled in him by his father. Parents play a huge huge role on the opinions and morals that kids develop. Then when he can't seem to reach that standard, the one to please his old man, it frustrates him, but he was like what 10?. He didn't give up, he was determined, he didn't care if he hurt himself in the process, once he achieved his goal it would be worth it ( which I'll talk about again).

• So when his father insist that he should stop, he should give up, it's just, so odd, to hear a parent telling their child to give up. Knowing Enji this wasn't just for his child's safety, it was probably also for his image, and because he saw it as a waste of time to train his soilder if he couldn't fight on the battle field. Touya knew this too.

• I've seen on many apps, or maybe even edits saying that if endeavor just went to see his son on seketo ( is that it? ) peak that day, it wouldn't have happened and he'd be 'normal', or somewhere close to. I beg to differ, it would have happened anyways, his sheer will to just outshine whoever his dear, precious father wanted outweighed his concern for his own well being. Especially with shoto being born and the new focus of attention. It was just a matter of time, fate, even.

• I remember TikTok in covid time💀, i was on of those people who had a hugee crush on dabi and tomura (mostly dabi), and i remember i used to say things like "I could fix him" "he's just misunderstood" "he secretly loves the league but just can't show it" no pookie bear that is definitely not the case😭. Fanon dabi is.....cool, but if i actually tried to interact with him he'd just, i don't kill me? I don't think he cares about anyone.

• Definitely not his siblings, he hates them too. He has an almost patronizing look on the women in his family, not doing anything to help or protect him ( not that he wanted it). He hated his little brother, shoto, for stealing his life, the life that he wanted. He hates his father for igniting a spark in him, then abandoning it, causing it to burn him up. He hates natsu, for not understanding and just accepting that they were both failures. His relationship with natsu, based on the little snips that we got give me very bittersweet, angsty vibes that i do want to look into. I digress. But no, Touya cares about no one, not even the league, they're just another tool to get him closer to his goal.

• He doesn't care about himself either as i mentioned earlier. Remember that spark i talked about?, it didn't burn him up completely, left a nasty big scar though. It's still burning, it's just fueled by something else now, a desire, a need to torture and kill Enji Todoroki. He isn't afraid of death, he was at it's doorstep and age 13, he's tasted it. He only puts in effort to preserve his life because his goal isn't complete. If he dies during or after, once he gets what he wants, and sees the look on their faces, he couldn't give a shit about what happens to him.

• Touya is not emotionally constipated. He's fucked up yeah but i believe that he's learnt how to feel his feelings, which are mostly anger, disgust and hatred. He appears nonchalant cause he channels those emotions into his revenge plan.

• I'd like to say he's a typical case of a psychopath, psychologically speaking. It's just that he has a motive to kill, most psychopaths do not (realize i said most) they just kill for the thrill. But other than that he checks off all the boxes. He's killed on multiple occasions, having very very little or non existent remorse for his actions, not very socially inclined, and if you think about it, is kinda selfish.

• Do not believe for one second that touya would see and remember the things he went through and be like "no, I'm above that". You're wrong, he would gladly mirror the behavior that he grew up around if it suited him. Top tier gaslighter and manipulater energy from this man.

• I'm not trying to demonize him, it's not his fault he doesn't care about anyone. It's just that he's never felt it, he doesn't actually know what it is, so he can't give it, you can't give something that you don't have. Some may argue that he had his siblings and rei, not saying they didn't love him but he didn't feel it, or want it, he wanted his father's love which he didn't receive in the slightest.

For those following me because of the Vic-Mignogna-potentially-tried-to-have-me-murdered longpost (if you're new here, you're definitely gonna wanna click that link and read, read, read), here's an important update that especially applies to anybody who had a harassing experience with Vic (of whom I saw MANY telling stories that they had in the notes of the longpost).

Farah has been hyping up the fact that she has filed a police report about the incident with the Irving PD (Texas). It's real, by the way, and while they give very minimal information, it's possible to locate the report to prove that it's real.

Interestingly enough, apparently the reporting officer you see here in this report may not be the officer working the case anymore, as Farah seems to say in other posts online that Vic's sycophant chud followers kept calling her desk and harassing her to the point where she asked to be removed from the case, so now another officer has been assigned to this. As if harassing the cops is a smart way to make this all go away.

I am hesitant to get anybody too excited, but Farah seems very positive that after all this time, the police want to get things done. From the video and other social media posts, the police want to talk to anybody with more info, they've talked to people at Funimation who you may remember held their own internal investigations on Vic in 2019, and MAYBE the FBI is involved because there's a lot of dirt on this guy? Look, I wanna be realistic here. I'm just repeating what she's saying. I don't know how true any of that is. But if there's any truth in it, I want to help.

She mentions it in the above video, but also makes mention in a much shorter and more pointed TikTok video (click link to see yourself) that if you were ever victimized by Vic in any way that came across as harassing or could be construed as assault, no matter how long ago it was, Irving PD wants to know about it. You'll have to file a police report with your own local PD (or the area where it happened?) and tell them to tell Irving PD. Give them case number 23-17071. If they're really going to build a case and seriously consider doing something about him, then the least I can do is tell you about this.

And believe me, I get it. There are a MILLION reasons why a victim would not report their assault or their harasser. I've already seen the victim blaming for the last four and a half years. "Why didn't any of these people file police reports rather than just posting about it online?" Because it's none of your fucking business. But aside from that, it's terrifying, you don't know how it will affect your work, if your harasser will retaliate, if they will send their flying monkeys after you, or any number of other reasons (not the LEAST of which might be ACAB).

That having been said, I figured the best thing I could do after posting that whole story would be to share this update. And again, I don't know how far along this really has progressed. But there IS a police report that we can prove really exists. To that extent, this is not a lie. The police really, truly are involved.

If you were ever victimized, and if--ONLY IF--you feel confident enough and safe enough to help build a report against Vic, it sounds like now is the time to do it. Farah is also trying to be as supportive as she can, I know. Talk to me about it if you want. Maybe we can figure out safe ways to make this happen. BUT DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED IF YOU DO NOT FEEL SAFE DOING SO! At no point are you required to put yourself in danger. Just, if you want to, if you feel safe, if you are ready, this looks like the route they're trying to build to actually finally do something about this guy.

Idk what it was about this day but Jimin got proper angry about the touching.

Another time Jimin didn't like V touching JK was during this live. He even banged his cup on the floor.

Have you read the latest script of K&J's podcast about the Michael episode? I'm very interested in hearing your thoughts. They were talking about Jenna acting out and being forced to take time off. And they mentioned being upset because other people were acting out and getting storylines or being given time off to do other things. The later one is def about D since he went to do the musical but I can't believe he would act out for that, it's like totally OOC.

Same anon as before as I was just finishing to read the script. They did indeed talk about Darren being written off and I'm debating if I should listen this time because the way it's written they seem very jealous of him. I'm getting upset by just reading this. So I'm still very curious about your thoughts about it if and when you have the chance to read/listen to it.

Yes, I did kind of skim the transcript this morning because I saw people talking about it and was curious. And, I have a lot of complicated feelings about the whole thing.

First of all, though, I say this with love to all the Blaine and Darren fans out there -- Kevin and Jenna are never going to be able to be objective when doing this podcast. I keep thinking about all the other rewatch podcasts I listen to, and how all of them - even when discussing things that were hard to go through and/or things that weren't that great with the show - have a level of decorum that Kevin and Jenna just do not have. I do not know why they began this podcast, but digging into the show on a media analysis level just is not where their talents lie.

(Also, I don't think they love Glee the way those other podcasters genuinely love their show and that just colors how they see things. I'll get more into this in a moment...)

And I get that it's frustrating. Believe me, I do. There are plenty of Kurt things they do not talk about that drive me nuts. But at the same time, I feel like the 'recaps' have boiled down to praising Naya, Amber, and themselves; commentating on whatever BTS stuff comes up, and discussing shit on TikTok. I'm not sure why they're even bothering with the 'recaps', tbh.

But guys - if this podcast is upsetting you, if you're finding yourself this anxious or mad or whatever -- it's time to stop. They're not going to change how they do things, and at this point, I'm not entirely sure what you're waiting for from them? Maybe it's time to stop hate listening <3 <3

As for the acting out -- I think a lot of the cast probably did. I'm sure Lea was a terror to work with at times. I'm sure Mark probably wasn't easy either. I know Naya spoke up on a lot of things -- though the producers didn't take as much issue with her until the Season 5 drama. Chris was pretty vocal about choices with his character. I can imagine Amber being just as frustrated with Mercedes' lack of anything to do. Didn't Heather say she kept it all inward? And what about Diana who really seems to not ever want to talk about Glee again?

So - who knows what acting out means, tbh.

Keeping all of this in context -- this cast was very tired by the time Season 3 came around. There were too many characters to service, they keep adding ones in, and they were all very young. (And for those of you who are experiencing your early 20s right now? I hate to say this to you -- but you are all still very young.) Added on the fact that the producers clearly did not understand their mental health needs (as evident about how apologetic Ryan Murphy seems to be about all of it) you get a lot of young people expressing their frustration in a lot of different ways over a lot of different things.

I think that Jenna has some very, very complicated feelings about the show -- and in particular about this era because this is where she had a rather big break down. You know what, I do feel for her, because I can see where she's coming from. I can't imagine - feeling like you're tied to a job where everyone around you seems to be getting a better deal than you, and you're trying to be the nice one, and eventually, holding all of that inwardly will make you crack. I'm glad she went to therapy. I kinda hope she's still going to therapy because it seems as though a lot of this is still bothering her.

And I don't really think that Darren, specifically, is ultimately what led to Jenna's breakdown. I think it was a lot of things compounding on each other and Darren on Broadway might have been the last straw that caused her to crack.

I will say (again with all the love to Darren, I adore the guy) there was underground talk that when Darren first got there - he didn't exactly handle his newfound fame in the most eloquent of ways -- in that he was a little on the pompous side. But again, that was age, and by the time Season 4 came around, by all accounts that I came across, he was friends with everyone.

That said - none of this is Darren's fault. It's not Darren's fault that Ryan Murphy handled his young cast and their mental health very badly. It's not Darren's fault that he jumped on opportunities when they arose. It's not Darren's fault that through his natural talents Blaine became a way more popular character than half the original cast. And it's not Darren's fault that Jenna has her own shit to deal with.

And I'm still here enjoying Kurt, Blaine, Chris, and Darren -- and believe it or not, a lot of the show in general. And I don't really listen to Kevin and Jenna's podcast anymore because they just don't care about the things I do -- and that's fine.

ok i actually can't sleep if i dont rant into the void about this so here's my thoughts: to all the people (mainly on tiktok) who complained and bitched and moaned about the changing of the deadline and the fact that they "failed" the quest-- how does it feel to be WRONG. (/j)

percy and luke have always been each others foils, always. additionally, we know that this adaptation has explored percy's love for his mom the one who raised him, over the gods- he literally says "i'm sally jackson's son" to two immortal beings, because the gods have never been there for him.

luke takes advantage of that. he tells percy the truth, because it is true, the gods don't care about them, and sees so much potential in him. he never wanted to be percy's enemy, and he likely would have succeeded in recruiting percy had percy not "failed" his quest!!

if luke had asked the percy who had never seen his father even show so much as a sign that he cared to join him right at the beginning, i wholeheartedly believe percy would've joined him. at the beginning of the story, percy hates the gods because they've never done anything for him, so why should he do anything for them?

but then, he goes on this quest, and he gets to experience the ways his father does care about him, however distant they are. poseidon saves him, tells him to go to santa monica, and even though at that point they had already "failed", he still gets help!!!

if they hadn't missed the deadline and indirectly caused an entire WAR, the gravity of poseidon stepping in to save percy again would mean nothing!! poseidon, notorious, jealous brother, immediately surrenders and begs zeus not to hurt his son. he claims percy, and makes sure zeus knows that his pride, his glory means nothing in comparison to caring for his son.

and THAT is why it they changed the deadline. if percy hadn't seen his father surrender an entire war just to protect him, he likely would've gone with luke, or at the very least, be swayed. but he saw Poseidon end a war to ensure his safety- so of course he's gonna see that they're trying their best. he saw it in hermes, too- the gods trying to make amends and right their wrongs.

i truly do think this change really drives the narrative forward, both the overarching plot AND percy and luke as foils, especially given how they have explored this adaptation. so yeah, this change was good

More genshin takes. Today's subject is Diona, who is actually mischaracterised so badly it makes me mad.

Fandom take: brat who hates diluc and complains all the time and hates alcohol (I have seen actual tiktoks complaining about her for these reasons)

Reality:

Diona's mother is not mentioned. She seems to be looked after only by her father, or was looked after by him. Diona loves her father more than anything, and the first time she saw him drunk, her entire world was shattered. She decided that this couldn't be his fault, he was her dad. He was her hero. Clearly, it was the fault of the wine.

Draff is not a responsible parent-

[friendship lv. 4 story: ...young Diona found that her father would wind up particularly drunk... dead to the world before he could even finish her bedtime story]

-and Diona doesn't want to accept that it's his fault, so she hates alcohol and wants to take down the wine industry. The way she wants to achieve this is through mixing drinks so disgusting, nobody who visits the Cat's Tail will ever want to drink again.

Unfortunately, she was blessed on her seventh birthday by the spring fairy, a spirit living in the water at Springvale. She used to go and speak to the water when Draff was drunk, and the fairy listened and chose to bless her.

[friendship lv. 6 story: "I will bless you, daughter of hunters, for your days ahead, and as a farewell. May your cup always run over with the sweet wine of celebration. May it always be refreshing as springs of ever-melting snow."]

Diona doesn't remember this, since she was so young, and believes it to be a dream. She can't make bad drinks, no matter the ingredients or techniques used. It's impossible.

She doesn't know this, so she got a job at the Cat's Tail to try and achieve her goals. This is AWFUL. Margaret, the owner, said: [lv. 3 story] "What choice did I have? She's just too cute."

The creeps at the Cat's Tail are fucking disgusting.

[Lv. 4 story: "...until one day, when a particularly plastered fellow tugged her tail out of curiosity... only to find it unexpectedly warm and soft. That day, Diona turned the tavern upside-down."

So Diona has a neglectful, drunkard father, is constantly surrounded by creeps, is being essentially exploited by Margaret for her ears and tail, and the only friend she ever had apart from the traveller was a fairy she believes is a dream.

That's why she's so angry all of the time.

Now, why does she dislike Diluc?

Diluc doesn't drink-

-so people often use this as an excuse to get mad that Diona blames him for her dad's drunkenness, but they forget that she doesn't know this. Diona doesn't know that Diluc doesn't like alcohol, she sees him as the leader of the Mondstadt wine industry (since he is.)

[Diona's voiceline- About Diluc: "Diluc! I can't stand him! If there was no Diluc, there would be no Mondstadt wine industry; and if there was no Mondstadt wine industry, Daddy wouldn't drink; and if Daddy didn't drink... he would keep me company."]

She doesn't want the blame to be on her father; she idolises him. She instead wants to blame something she can work against, and in her eyes that is the Mondstadt wine industry. As the figurehead of the industry, of course Diluc is going to be a target of hatred. She's a kid. She doesn't understand that Diluc has no control over it. All she knows is that her dad drinks, and she hates it, and Diluc sells wine.

Diona is incredibly hurt, especially for such a young child. That's not even getting started on how she got her vision (she had to save Draff from a storm, since the Knights couldn't get to him through the rain. Her determination to save him gave her her vision. She's a healer because he was incredibly hurt, and she made a cocktail for him to ease the pain.)

She desperately wants connection, considering how she warms up to the traveller through her friendship levels. She's hurt and sad and lost, and the only way she really knows how to express that is through anger. She's violent (she bit Elzer when he tried to hire her to Dawn Winery) because she HAS NO OTHER OPTIONS.

The fandom hating on her because she dislikes their ~anime husbando~ is annoying as hell and I'm sick of it, because none of them understand WHY. She doesn't hate Diluc personally. She hates the wine industry. She hates that she's alone. She's fucking tragic, but so awfully overlooked it pains me.

Okay, so

I definitely think things are locked down rn because of the backlash. I do believe they intended something different, probably more, than what's happening. The backlash has not only been on Chris and the trolls, but also on Ana and Dexter and it has tarnished the entire movie. I have a feeling Ana and Dexter, if anyone, do not want anything to ruin the release. They were absolutely counting on Chris' fandom to pull in numbers and I'm sure they're worried about what will happen with everything going on. I also think they know that even anything mentioning or hinting at AB will make the fandom angry and not want to support (even less than they already do)

However, I also think the PR thing, while connected to Ghosted, is not connected to Ghosted. It's connected to Chris and the image he needed to sell in a movie where he was the lead. They thought it would be a good idea and work well, both with the GP and his fandom. It worked with neither. A lot of the GP already dislike the pairing due to the age-gap and the visuals of it, they don't even know about the racism etc.

So I think strategy has changed from what they intended. He lost a lot of fans and followers after posting those stories, too. People didn't even know about it until they saw it on his insta and a lot of people think of him as a cliché now. He does not have the cute, loving, husband-material vibe anymore; now he's an old creep dating someone much younger who looks even younger than she is.

Considering a lot of his fans are women (and that many of them are in their 30's and up) that's a really bad look. Just go on tiktok or twitter and you will see people who aren't even that deep in the fandom cringing about the optics all over the place.

I'm not sure why they thought it would be a good idea to begin with, tbh. I don't want to jinx anything but I also feel like there might be hints coming at us right now. The silence, the weird articles about his ex's, the solo sightings and articles with no mention of the pairing.

He didn't necessarily need the image for or during Ghosted. He needed it back in the day because he had simply been single (in the public eye) for too long. That can be ratified by having him seemingly settled down/wanting to settle down and keeping that partner around for the press etc, but it can also be ratified a lot easier (for him in many ways since it does not tie him as permanently and he doesn't have to actually be tied to it physically for as long, like Seb and Ale); by selling a narrative that they have been in hiding for over a year and are happy but that it fell apart before the premiere. It's perfect for them to also blame it on the backlash from his fandom especially, and once again make the fans the bad guys, like they did with Jenny (and ignore the fact that he definitely isn't as he seems, as we could learn from the few hints in her book)

That way, there will be no mention of her anywhere during press, and eventually she fades away until he drops a hint or comment somewhere that he's single.

I also believe we won't get a BUA. I simply believe it'll fade, like it usually does with him, and then months later we'll get some confirmation (like with Jenny, where the confirmation of the break up actually came out months after it had happened, as was mentioned in her Vulture interview after the first round)

Then loads of aeon shippers were saying it was canon and that 'the remakes don't completely change the story it's just a reboot!1!1!1!'

It's like... u seriously think something that was written TWENTY SIX years ago. Applies to games released in 2019 and 2023? U don't think the writers changed some aspects to make the games more realistic? I'm gonna say something very controversial about the Steddie shippers/community, but before you cancel me please just read what I have to say:

I need to start clarifying that I myself enjoy and ship Steve and Eddie. I enjoy their edits, fanart and fanfiction (I have one work written about them actually). I know that the Duffers weren't expecting them to blow up but I myself believe that they're two characters that have SO MUCH POTENTIAL to be written as a couple.

However, recently I have seen a bunch of post about Steddie shippers talking about surpassing the 8000+ works written under the Steve/Billy tag on Ao3 (They're always acting like it's a marathon. They write things lik: "Come on guy, we can do it!!!")

Listen, I understand where you guys are coming from, because I personally believe that while Billy Hargrove is an excellent written character (as in he's a really complex character) he IS a bad person, an awful person even, the list of problematic things about him is LONG.

So yeah, I understand that you guys want to surpass the number of Harringrove fanfics and put Steddie on top because it's indeed a fact that canonically Steve and Eddie have a better potential of being a healthier couple, an awesome ship.

Still, what's the point of surpassing the number of fanfiction written if the works that are being published under the Steve/ Eddie tag are not viewed as creative and fun works anymore? A lot of you are just perceiving their fanfiction just as a "number", a "target" to accomplish.

If you go through the "Eddie/Steve" tag you'll see that it is clogged with works that are just titles, works that have been improperly tagged, works that people are clearly not planning on finishing, works that are a copy of the previous one (as in it's literally the same story, the same tropes, the same dialogues and same plots with minimum variations). Works that are straight up -Excuse my language- SHITTY.

The fanfics that were written by the Stranger things fandom from 2016 until the first few months of 2022 (wether the fanfic was Mileven, Harringrove, Byler, Lumax, Jancy, Elmax, Stancy, etc) were works of people that wrote them driven by the fact that they genuinely love the fandom, the ship or just writing in general.

I can't tell or classify people's intentions (only they know why they write their stories) but by the way you guys are behaving on TikTok, Twitter, etc. in regards of the Steddie fanfiction it seems like a lot of your are only posting for the sake of posting.

Again, I'm not the fanfiction police or anything but... is it worth it?

Will it be worth it if Steddie has thousands of works under their tag if most of them are objectively a much lower quality than the 8000+ works that Steve/Billy fans have been working on for about 5 years? Why are you putting that kind of pointless pressure on yourselves?

I can testify that most of the Harringrove fanfics are very well written (I'm not a Billy Hargrove apologists, don't come from me) so when Steve and Eddie became a thing I was excited because "Yay! A non problematic ship that involves my favorite Stranger Things character (Steve) is here" and yes, at first it was fun but now that the Steve/Eddie tag is clogged with bullshit & not even half of the fanfics are good it's turning disappointing.

And yes, the Billy Hargrove of the fanfics is super "remixed" to make him less of an ass, but at least those stories are well planned and executed.

Also... The majority of the Steve/Eddie shippers seem to be the biggest Billy Hargrove antis (and I get that, canonical Billy is AN ASSHOLE, he's literally all the red flags in one dude. I would run away from him if I ever saw him on the street) but somehow you guys tend to "Billyfie" Eddie Munson a lot. You guys tend to give him Characteristics and fanfiction tropes that have been given to Billy for years...

Like, why? I find it kind of ridiculous...

At this point I don't know if I want to read more about Steve and Eddie anymore... Or if I do it I guess I'll have to sort from the thousands of awful stories that have been written in the span of months...

Or maybe in a couple of months you guys will forget about this weird behavior and will start writing decent stuff again.

My advice as someone who has been reading fanfiction for more than 10 years is: Quality over quantity, guys.

Eddie is 12 years old, with a buzzcut and in 6th grade when he meets Chrissy Cunningham for the first time at the school talent show. He doesn't think she even noticed him but her cheer routine made his heart skip a beat for the very first time.

It's two years later when Eddie meets the beautiful blonde again. He's 14 and his hair is a little longer now, shaggy in that he has to keep brushing the curls from his eyes, but that's the hazard of trying to grow it out again. They're standing behind the church because, despite his family's reputation, his uncle is still a god-fearing man and Chrissy's family had always been. She steps right up to him, right beside him but keeps her eyes forward. The gentle breeze brushes through the strands of her blonde hair and Eddie can see the discolouration around her eye that she clearly tried to cover with her makeup. He doesn't mention it. In fact, he doesn't say anything until she does. It catches him off guard the first time she speaks, a small light voice. "My daddy is my hero." Is all she says in relation to the bruise, a dismissal of who gave it to her, because she can see Eddie staring out of the corner of her eye. "Do you have a light?"

His eyes flick up from the way he was not so subtly admiring her side profile when she turns to talk to him. "Oh, sorry, I don't smoke," Eddie admits, rocking slightly on his heels. She gives him a small smile, barely there, just a quirk of her lips. "Neither do I, but I've been having these dreams, really vivid ones about something called a nicotine high." At this point in his life, Eddie had never heard of such a thing but it sounded pretty good and he knew precisely where his uncle kept a pack of smokes in the glove compartment of his beat-up old truck. They make their way to the parking lot, it's summer and his uncle's truck doesn't have air conditioning so the windows are left wide open, letting the cool summer breeze work its magic. It also allows Eddie to work his own magic, rummaging around through the glove compartment, with his arm through the open window, before pulling out a slightly crushed box of smokes and a zippo lighter. He holds them up with a wide grin so that girl can see before they look around to make sure no one saw and make their way back behind the church. Eddie lets Chrissy take her own stick from the pack and lights it up for her after some trial and error with the lighter. He then took his own and lit it himself. The smoke assaults his lungs and makes him want to cough but he holds it back because Chrissy inhales like a pro and blows the smoke back out with her eyes closed. She looks ethereal. "Do you think it's bad that I only talk to god when it's dark outside?" She asks it like Eddie knows anything about church, he rarely goes inside no matter how much his uncle asks him to. "My parents seem to talk to him all the time, but I can only do it when the world is asleep."

Eddie is still taking drags off his cigarette but he is listening thoughtfully. He doesn't believe in a god, but he wants to offer her some sort of comfort or reassurance if he can. "I think... if there is a god, he probably listens to pretty girls like you more than guys like me."

Chrissy smiles again, bigger this time and turns to actually look at him. "Y'know... my dad calls people who don't believe in God 'heathens'. I'm jealous of those people." "Why would you be jealous of them?" Eddie frowns, his mouth feels dry and he doesn't know if it's the smoke or Chrissy's bright, white smile, but they don't have any water.

Her shoulders give a shrug and she tips her face up to look at the blue sky, squinting slightly in the sun. "I don't know, they just seem... so carefree." She smiles just thinking about it and Eddie can't help but smile with her even though that statement is fundamentally wrong.

He leans over a bit and bumps his cigarette against hers like he's making a toast with them. "Well, you're dancing with the sinners now," He grins.

Future Eddie will be absolutely floored to know that the girl he shared his first cigarette with, the girl he didn't know the name of, ends up being his first, and last, girlfriend.

Class Favorites: #FreePalestine

Like I mentioned at the start of Akward Class Favorites 2023, I didn't feel right just jumping in with things without talking about at least 1 of the travesties that is happening at the moment and has been taking place for many years, and that's the occupation of Palestine. Y'all already know where I stand and it's with the Palestinian people for their freedom and liberation. Now that being said, this post isn't to educate you on the more than 75 year brutal occupation that they've been facing, but rather to highlight some of the people and resources I've been using to educate myself and to generally stay aware of what's happening day to day, while also just staying in the mix.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list of everyone and everything I've been consuming, so it's only a start. If this is your first look, here's to starting (that being said we're over a 100 days into the current wave, so you got some catching up to do,)and if you are aware and maybe want more ways to stay in the know, that works too. Let's Start With Books:

I'm currently reading Freedom Is A Constant Struggle by Angela Y. Davis. It's about how Ferguson and Palestine are connected and really how tied struggles for liberation are across the globe and why we should care. She also speaks to the prison industrial complex and how that is tied from our government to what what they're doing over there, it's all connected. I haven't finished it yet because I'm annotating my copy and that is work in an of itself, but I can say that I am enjoying it and recommend it to anyone who needs more reasons to care about Palestine, than simply because it's a human rights issue.

I've read two children's books: What The Kite Saw by Anne Laurel Carter and These Olive Trees by Anya Ghanameh. Not gonna lie you might cry reading both of these because they are both set in the illegal occupation of Palestine, however both feel like they are rooted with some hope.

The last book is a graphic novel that I haven't actually started yet, but checked out from the library recently, so it's on my to-read list. It's called Power Born of Dreams: My Story is Palestine by Mohammad Saba'aneh. It's about his time in an Israeli prison and what he believes freedom and hope look like for Palestinian people.

it doesnt really have donation palces listed on the slides. i'm not 100% sure but it seems like humanitarian aid is trickier because so much can't really be let into without the israeli government allowing it. and what they have allowed is dangerously little for how much the people need. but by all means continue looking into more sources.

i've seen some posts about getting e-sims/sim cards from other countries for the people's phones in the event they lose internet or cell towers again, they'll still be able to communicate and share more information with the rest of the world

I'm looking at these three site pages for what individuals can possibly do. There's boycotting here. Resource and Activism Guide which is the more in-depth info I mentioned above; it lists protests in locations from all over the world. While it's most likely past those dates, I figure that means at the least that if you're in any of those parts of the world, that you can look into those protests to see if they're still ongoing and have ways to join. Then this here shows ways to Post Support.

Below the read more line will be what I've gathered from looking into a few things that I wanted to look into a few days ago and have now gotten around to doing so.

I somewhat listened to Joe Biden’s speech regarding the “Israel-Hamas conflict”. He made some remarks about god/religion, maybe that was to show support for Judaism? The way he painted it, Hamas is a terrorist group that attacked Israel. He also states that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people. Biden says that he has asked that the Israeli government allow aid to go to Gaza civilians and to allow them to cross the border into Egypt while not allowing the same to Hamas. Then says he’s demanded that the Israeli government allow Redcross see their hostages to provide aid to them. The president also shares that America has sent $100 mil in humanitarian aid to Gaza and the West Bank.

Joe Biden also shared an anecdote that I felt is a bit odd but interesting. Apparently at a time when he was still a senator, he had met with an Israeli prime minister. The prime minister had told him not to worry and that they have a secret weapon. That they have nowhere else to go. That comment along with Joe’s comment about Israel being a place of safety for Jewish people. With what I’ve heard of what’s been done to Palestinian people by the Israeli military/government, it does seem like the idea is to try to paint the image that Israel is defending itself and that Judaism is under attack.

So this gives me the impression that the American government is on the side of Israel, but doesn’t fully support bombing Gaza. That the American government believes this to be a response to an attack, that everything is just a fight against Hamas. Though I’m hearing things suggesting that the Israeli government is using that as a cover-up/excuse for attacking Palestinians.

CNN’s article shared no witnesses or anything type of proof of Hamas beheading children. Yet I’ve seen a video of a witness sharing how he saw  an Israeli military soldier burning a man and his son alive back in 1948. I’ve even seen an article stating how in America there are people attacking Jewish people as if they somehow have anything to do directly with what Israel is doing? Which may be a sad byproduct of how much the Israeli government is also viewed as a representation of Judaism? Or at least with them trying to give this idea that Judaism is under attack and that this is a self-defense of religion?

I would like to state that religious people don’t always perfectly follow their religious teachings. Also a government attacking a group of people does not reflect the religion that said government may say they follow. One of the ten commandments, which I’m guessing that most christian religions follow, is to “love thy neighbor”. Which would mean to accept and embrace them, not eradicate someone who’s not exactly the same as you. Apologies, that does sound a bit preachy, but I just want to point out that I’m pretty sure christianity is about peace. Also from my understanding, a religion counting as a christianity religion is if it believes in one God along with Jesus Christ. (I say along as I do know that some religions believe them to be the same person while others believe them to be separate beings.)

It does seem that Hamas attacked some homes in Israel, which then led to Israel bombing Gaza. I can understand the upset and anger as it appears to be random civilian homes that were attacked. Yet as my younger brother basically said, “It’s like eye for an eye, but instead of taking an eye, they’re taking half of the body for an eye.” (Not a perfect quote as my memory isn’t that great, but basically what he said when I was discussing what I’ve learned with him.) It’s upsetting that civilians were attacked, but it feels almost forgettable with what the Israeli government is doing now. It also seems that the attack was overexaggerated to make it seem that they have some justification in what they’re doing.

Currently it seems that there’s talk about displacing Palestinians into Egypt. Egypt has condemned Israel’s attack on the Jabalia refugee camp and is allowing apparently only specific Palestinians that were severely wounded to enter for treatment? Though I don’t know what Israel’s excuse is for taking air raids out on the West Bank. Maybe they could claim that the West Bank is supporting Gaza and that somehow justifies attacking it. This is absurd. It seems like somewhat slowly other countries are starting to realize how messed up this situation is, but I fear that a whole lot more death is going to occur before there is powerful and meaningful international interference.

So, I just watched withcindy's video about this whole scandal between BookTok and the Seattle Kraken team and... I have some things to say about all this.

Before we start I want to mention that I'll be touching upon topics such as catcalling, sexism towards men, and grown women not willing to take accountability for their actions. If you find any of these topics upsetting, I would advise you against reading this and hope you have a nice rest of your day.

We'll be talking about Kierra Lewis, a known BookTok member, also known as the woman who keeps on "humorously simping" over the members of the Seattle Kraken team.

She makes this videos with pictures of them in the background while saying things like "Why don't you assist your teammates in scoring all three of my holes?", "What's a sister gotta do to have you crack this back?" or "When you're done playing your little game go spit out that mouthpiece 'cause I got something else to put in your mouth".

Kierra also catcalls them on videos where they're warming up, saying things like "Best believe, after seeing them stretches, I'm going to every hockey practice, every game, early as hell", or "When I saw it [the video] for the first time, me and the kitty was drooling at the same time".

Far from thinking this woman was disgusting and calling her out for sexually harassing their players, the team decided to go along with it and began posting more and more videos of the players so she, and all the other women she had inspired to do such atrocious things, could keep on going. Actually, they even rewarded Kierra inviting her to one of their games and gifting her a personalised jersey.

As I just said, many other women took her as an example and began catcalling the players. Some even took it further and went into their DMs.

It was then when Felicia, one of the team's players' wife, decided to come out and defend her husband stating that "There has been videos and comments made that have crossed the line and sound pretty predatory and exploiting [···] I don't care about the comments about my husband's looks, what doesn't sit with me is when your desires come with sexual harrasment, innapropiate comments and the fact that with the internet we can normalize behavior that would never be okay if we flipped the genders around".

Kierra proceeded to "defend herself" by saying that everything she had done was for entertainment purposes, that it was a TikTok thing and, thus, it shouldn't be taken seriously. Besides, she had gotten the support from other women in these player's lives!

Now again, let's do what Felicia said and flip the genders around. Imagine this is a grown ass man excusing himself from catcalling all these female athletes simply because he "did it for the funsies". And besides, men in their lives were okay with his comments so it's a-okay for him to do whatever he wants!

It isn't funny at all, is it? People would instantly cancel him and every single person who dared support this asshole. But since it's a woman with men, well...

Why don't we just go and harass the victim's wife, shall we?

"Imagine being so insecure in your relationship that you have to go on Instagram because YOU went public about how hot your man is, other people agreed, and you didn't like it"

These are some of the comments directed towards Felicia. As you can see, they're accusing her of being insecure about her relationship which... huh? Babe, she's just defending her partner from people who are literally sexually harassing him and his teammates. I think that's actually pretty... decent of her? Pretty human? But eh, not like you would know about ethics, am I right?

There's something that Cindy said about this that I would like to quote. She says "Maybe other people are feeling insecure about being called out for sexual harassment and, instead of being embarrased, they're projecting that onto the woman who called their shit out". YOU 👏 ARE 👏 A 👏 QUEEN 👏 BABE.

There're also other users calling her out saying that Felicia wants to be Y/N so badly, but she can't. And this is where the main problem lays: they don't see Alex (Felicia's husband) as a human being, but as the face of their preferred male protagonists in their Wattpad Y/N stories.

(Besides, Y/N always ends up being the girlfriend/wife of the hockey player. Felicia is, in fact, Alex's wife. So who are the ones who want to be Y/N so badly, but they can't?).

Eventually, the team ended up unfollowing Kierra and deleting the videos after shit got wild. The fact that they waited for so long, though... Honestly, shame on them. Whoever decided it was a good idea to support this woman's wrongdoings, you are disgusting and hope this weights in your concience.

Felicia then releases yet another statement where she mentions that "I wanted my post to be taken for what it was: a request for accountability, respect, boundaries and for people to educate themselves on sexual harrasment, consent and double stardards. It was never my intention [to directly attack Kierra]. [My problem is with] the toxic culture, the problematic following and harassing behavior. We get sent this video [where Alex is stretching] and others on a weekly, if not on a daily basis. Every game I've been to and talked to fans I get in my head about not knowing if these are genuine hockey fans or the people who comment that they masturb#te with his jersey on"

She also mentions this author who's been writing a spicy book with Alex as her inspiration like WTF? This woman was also the one who shared the video I mentioned before, and even had the guts to tag him on it. What a lovely human, isn't she?

The harassment levels were so bad Alex had to come out to defend Felicia stating that "I'm all in for BookTok to write books and fiction about hockey, but the aggresive language about real life players is too much [···] We can all take a joke and funny comments, but when it turns personal and into something bigger that affects our family, we need to tell you we have had enough".

I can only imagine the pain these two people (along with their child/ren) must have been going through just because a bunch of grown ass women cannot accept the fact they're in the wrong thinking that since, and only since, Alex's team is a masculine one, any sort of sexual harassment towards them gets invalidaded.

And that is my main complain with all this shit; double standards and the team players being treated as objects simply because these women have had only considered them as the face of their preferred love interest in whichever Y/N or OC story they've reading or writing.

It's okay if you thirst over fictional characters and whatnot, but it's different when the object of your desires is a real life person. You should then have in mind that they're a breathing human being who has a life, friends, family and even partners. And even if they don't, they'll always have the right to deny consent or to give it and then revoke it whenever they feel like it. And so do the people who surround them.

You have no right to call out Felicia because she was okay with people calling her husband handsome and she now complains about yall's disgusting behavior. Just get down of your high horses and take the fucking accountability y'all been needing for a long ass time.

TL;DR: Have empathy and don't be a perverted fuck. Period.
