Going to be a tad controversial here:

The world state thing is fine. It's not a disaster. It doesn't ruin the point of Dragon Age. Your headcanons aren't decanonised by it.

Is it ideal?

Absolutely not.

Am I disappointed?

Absolutely.

Does this have any bearing on how much I'll enjoy Veilguard?

Ultimately, probably not. Sure, this means I won't get to find out whether the Fade Survivor was accepted at Wheisshaupt, and it means I won't get to find out whether Divine Victoria's Nug breeding program was successful.

What it does mean is we'll be able to go into the world afresh. Make decisions impacting a different part of the world. See the world in a different way. Just like in Origins.

Ultimately though, this doesn't prevent you from writing your own stories in Thedas to bridge the gap. The campaign I'm running for my mates kinda does this (although I just killed off King Alistair so I don't think a lot of you would like the story I'm telling).

I dunno, maybe just...cool it a little bit? Save criticisms until we have the game. When it's in front of us, if it's bad, then we can tear into it.

At the bus stop one time there was a gaggle of preschoolers waiting to catch the bus for a field trip day, and someone walked past with a couple of friendly little dogs, to great general delight.

But after a little bit, the dogs were getting overwhelmed, and the preschoolers were gently coaxed to back off so the person with the dogs could continue on. Specifically, one of the preschool teachers said, "Sometimes, when you're small, being surrounded by big people can be a bit scary and overwhelming. Even if they are friendly."

This was recieved as great wisdom: after all, the preschoolers were also small, and understood how scary and overwhelming big people could be! And the dogs were indeed even smaller than the preschoolers, so it made sense.

What was funny and charming was that, upon absorbing and reflecting on this wisdom, they all felt the need to tell it to one another. In tones of great insight, they turned to one another and said, "Did you know? Sometimes when you are small, being surrounded by big people can be scary and overwhelming! Even if they are friendly!" Back and forth, without any particular concern that they were all saying the same thing. Have reached comprehension of an insight, it must be shared!

I must say that this behavior is less charming in tumblr users than in preschoolers. Not least because tumblr users, having gained a little analytical skill to misuse, insist on Summarizing and Generalizing and Unifying the insights they repeat, quickly turning any interesting new information into formulaic dogmatic mush.

#i made the mistake of looking in the notes of the beach sand post i reblogged to see if anyone else had interesting comments #And the rate at which it went from like #1) person states with moderate confidence an opinion based on their personal observations #2) multiple people reply with “wow thats so insightful!” (aka it aligns with my preconceived notions of how things work)#3) someone else adds additional personal observations which are not really relevant but which can be absorbed into the narrative #4) people start outright stating the underlying belief on which this bias is constructed as if it were a fresh insight #5) general derisive attitude towards people who haven't seen the Obviously Correct solution to this complex real world problem yet #It's very.......#It's not like it's a high stakes post but it's such a microcosm of the whole dogmatic phenomenon #Also this js a more specific gripe to My Field or w/e #But the degree to which people react to the problems caused by the whole “Control of Nature” era of engineering #with this equally reductive “Nature will Fix Everything” type of attitude #Is sooooo frustrating.#Yes a great many of our current problems could have been avoided if we had not made massive changes to ecosystem processes on the assumptio #That they were simple and we understood them. And that they would respond in predictable ways.#the simplicity in retrospect of “wow we Should Not have done that” does not mean that they are simple to undo!#You can't go back in time. You can't turn back the clock on chaotic processes #Which is. Almost every process ever.#Restoration is hard! So the state-owned media platform in my country decided to publish an article in which a young woman who moved to israel from here complains about how she's feeling "unsafe" for the first time since moving. "Now that the country is at war with three different enemies."

I NEED TO MOVE OUT NOOWWWWWWW

#i woke up at 3 pm bc this was my 1st day ‘off’ in forever #and when i went to grab something to eat our back door was fully open and my car was nowhere to be found #cat*#so i freaked out and started looking outside but when i realized she wasn’t there and my roommate also wasn’t recently outside #i knocked on her bedroom door and she was like ‘oh sorry i was asleep do you want me to help look’#YES i want you to help look what are you talking about #eventually i found her bc my cat is the best girl in the world and never left our yard- she was in the crawl space under the house #but not only am i pissed she let my car out then took a nap #but we don’t live in the safest city in the world and while we were both sleeping our door was fully 90 degrees open #so now not only do i feel like kevin (cat) isn’t safe here but I don’t feel safe sleeping here anymore #the lease is up in july and i finally get to leave #this girl is a random roommate my former roommate found to replace her #and the whole process/experience has been awful #i just have to survive 4 months #during the summer i might keep paying rent but fully leave and go live with family #bc my school isn’t in driving distance of any of my family #now i’m thinking about asking someone if they’ll take kevin for a couple months bc im so sorry about her #but my dad has a dog that doesn’t love cats and my best friend is allergic and my mom lives in another state #personal #delete later #also this is unrelated BUT every weekend without fail she does laundry at an insane time in the morning #and our washing machine is the loudest washing machine i’ve EVER heard #and of course it’s right against the wall of my room #not hers #i only get two days a week to sleep past 630 am and she almost always ruins it

about a week ago now i literally just mentioned offhand on the phone with my mom the death toll in gaza cresting 10,000 people and she was immediately, genuinely flabbergasted. she was like ?? 10,000? they're saying 10,000?? i'm watching news on this every day and not one station has even mentioned this number. and based on her voice i figured whatever news stations she was watching hadn't mentioned a number even close to it either and this was LITERALLY. like. 5 minutes after she gently, genuinely tried to encourage me to keep discernment and not just believe everything i see on the internet about this and seek out less mainstream new sources. the level of brainwashing in usamerica is beyond. it's just beyond. when i mentioned, again offhandedly, how even before october israel had military checkpoints across their entire border of gaza and that virtually nobody was allowed to leave if they weren't day workers, doctors, etc, and she flat out just said oh i don't believe that. like. girl based on WHAT. the bible? it's insane it's insane it's fucking bonkers and i don't know how to reach 'well-meaning' people when they're at this point of living in a complete propagandized world based on a thousand year old rewritten ten times over book and zero real life actual events

i know i’ve talked about my horrifyingly vivid nightmares on here before (and definitely in therapy!) but like. how on earth do you stop them. i’m not anxious in my waking life, the anti anxiety/sleep medication i take just gives me different kinds of vivid nightmares. what’s a guy to do

#my therapist was just like. yeah! dreams are nuts we don’t really know what’s up with them #like ok! why WHY why are mine LIKE THIS. usually it’s tight #but i’m dreaming only about like. my family and it’s god fucking awful #had one the other night i was in a. space station w my dad and mama and i checked my phone #and we all had missed calls from my sister and a voicemail that was like well! the world is ending and i’m still here! love you all!#and then um like the moon burst like a balloon (honestly looked like jean jacket in nope)#and that fucked with gravity and sucked our ship round and round closer to the sun #ones where my mom isn’t my mom she’s some scary awful dream mom #sometimes she leaves me behind or won’t let me come home #or sometimes she’s being sooo mean to my sister and it makes me so sad #and none of it is REAL!#we all love each other we’re all on good terms i miss the hell out of my sister n mom who are in different states #but AHHHHH it fucks with me #i had one last night that my partner died #which is a real life fear of mine. i don’t know what i would do if anything happened to him #n in my dream i was talking to someone about and saw an old couple walk by holding hands #and my loss and heartbreak felt SO REAL..like that should be US old and in love!#AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
