Jungle Fury Random Headcanons and Ideas
@skyland2703 @augment-techs @mo-ok @junglefurytrash went a bit crazy with this one
-Casey is the youngest of five siblings, and is the only boy in the family. He knows how to do makeup and hair.
-Due to his upbringing everyone in the house expected him to be gay, he was kind of dreading having to tell his mother and sisters but they were pretty chill about it.
-His sisters are either quintuplets or triplets and two adopted sisters depending on what you want to go with.
-Despite being the blue ranger Theo didn't develop his animal spirit until after Luen gained his. His parents seem to expect more from him as they were students in a sub school associated with the Pai Zhua.
-Theo's won a Guinness World Record award for karaoke, he claims it's in his blood to be amazing at it.
-Lily grew up within a small apartment in the city, she enjoys all the different foods that a place has to offer. Anything that's new and changing, reminds her of home.
-There's a chance that she trained with Zack and had him as a partner as she did mentioned how she used to do competitive dance competitions.
-RJ's mother passed away when he was young and he kind of blames himself for it. Despite trying to make their relationship better Finn may have blamed him all those years ago for Mrs. James's passing, just a constant reminder of her not being here.
-RJ is amongst one of the only individuals(Like Antonio) to discover the Morphin Grid on his own and is the reason the Pai Zhua has it as access.
-Sometimes just to spite Finn RJ catches fish and attaches them around the shark master's house. That way his air conditioning can smell terrible.
-Dominic flunked out of college, he was studying to become a teacher in geography.
-Casey seems more ticked off with Dominic because of the idea that he might try to go for Jarrod or RJ.
-Jarrod enjoys being around animals as his parents weren’t really around, his mother didn’t really enjoy the prospect of having a boy and his dad would either yell all the time or get pissed off about farm work not doing well so Jarrod cuddling up with a fluffy sheep or even summoning his black lion spirit to sleep next to it’s mane would soothe him.
-Despite all the troubles within the school Master Mao kinda sees Jarrod as his own son(Any of you kingdom hearts fans, cough cough Eraqus and Terra).
-Camille’s hatred of snakes was due to her mother being killed by Naja 10,000 years ago, she’s unaware of this fact but disposing of the snake rinshi felt right when it happened in the show.
-Her eyeshadow is actually a trait of her animal spirits. Animal spirits have way more depth to them as they are the shadow of one’s self, in some cases specific traits about said spirit leak into the person like physical to mental details (example: Camille’s eyeshadow, RJ’s ferocity from his wolf spirit.)
-megazords formed by animal spirits were based on specific influences centuries ago, from totems, giant sculptures like sphinx and even Animus. Some can claim that the guardians of the Pai Zhua were the first people to create earthly megazords within human history.
-mystical beasts or fictional animal like creatures such as the phoenix, azure dragon etc are somewhat rare due to a very small percent of people born with one or those entities giving access to said person. Such as the Phantom Beasts who are based on specific creatures. If Nick or Chip were to come to Pai Zhua and develop a phoenix and Garuda spirit then they’d be a powerful force.
-rinzen and zocalo energy isn’t inherently bad energy but the power is mainly associated with rinshi, the rangers have the potential to access it and even gain phantom beast modes similar to Jarrod and Camille.
-Fran’s animal spirit can range either from a black cat, owl or monkey and gives her abilities based on inner luck or focus making her quite powerful.
-Lily basically adopted Casey as her own little brother.
-Secretly Jarrod wants to pursue cooking or something based in creativity. He didn't touch a kitchen utensil for weeks after seeing kitchen nightmares and it took RJ having to throw the tapes out to get him back into cooking.
-Master Swoop can actually split himself into bat's and has the little shadows spying around the world for any threats. Its kind of creepy but very effective as he can easily have the bat's acting as kamikaze strikers to defeat monsters. Rangers on other teams don't know how threats get taken down but they don't mind, less work load.
-the Pai Zhua has more schools within the world that differentiate in some fighting styles and such. Some schools like the ninja academies try to pick up on their skills but a few of the campuses keep secret.
-Zordon tried to learn about the teachings thousands of years ago as their abilities mixing with the grid gave way for a spike in power with combat but they shunned the wizard away cause of being weary about his motives. Ninjor was welcomed in open arms via the power coins he had. This also explains why Jungle Fury was so scarce with the other teams up until megaforce.
-despite everything the Pai Zhua is nowhere near as moral as they tried to portray themsleves as. Some people can be very toxic in a few areas, Dai Shi had possessed people in the past and with each attempt they tried to have the individuals go mad and die from the experience as a way to rid themselves of the dragon. Casey and the rangers dismantled this ideology after killing the Dai Shi.
-because of her potential the academy sent scouts to try and push Fran to join the academy but RJ quickly shut that down and actually threatened a few of the higher officials because of this.
-Animal spirits talk amongst themselves when the team isn't around. Some play poker when everyone's asleep.
-because of being spirit and mythical based the JF team can handle most of the recurring threats of Zedd and Rita. Plus with their megazords not being mechanical they aren't easily disposed of.
-RJ secretly made JKP into a megazord incase there's an emergency, he met Antonio and added a shitload of symbol power and animal spirit energy to make it a powerful force.
-Lily loves a lot of 80s-90s music and loves to dress in a semi style of Y2K.
-Having no knowledge of Pokemon, Camille and Casey were sat down by Theo and Fran until they were introduced to Gen 4. Camille hacked her Platinum cartridge to get all the mythical and legendary mon events.
-RJ smokes blunts mainly to calm himself, it started as a way to escape the thought of his mother being goin and his father's disapproval.
-Tommy and Jason aren't allowed in Ocean Bluff when it comes to ranger activity because RJ's access to the grid could be useful but he likes to gatekeep and personally team wise if anything happens both him and the group wouldn't enjoy veteran rangers from the first modern team(unless it's billy) coming in and taking over operations.
-Camile and Jarrod jump monsters whenever a mission happens, forget talking, get the job done when needed.
-Casey was fired from the zoo for sleeping in the tiger cage and released all the animals into nice reservations after he was let go.
-Lily was made team leader as Casey doesn't feel too well with getting the role just for being a red ranger.
-Theo is a master at coming up with combo attacks and megazord concepts to the point that rangers like Chip and Max come to him for guidance. He's got quite the reputation in the ranger community for his witty ideas.
-Casey is on a red ranger watch list due to his sword skills, despite keeping their word Jason may have came to the city to demand some aid with their grid research and the two got into a brawl with Casey winning. Him, Jayden and Lauren are all at the top five of said list.
-RJ has dated lots of people but it usually never ends on a perfect note as they were usually relationships with people who took emotional advantage over him. Though he's in a better place within his life to try again with Casey or anyone who actually values him.
-Jarrod listens to a lot of punk music and back at the school Mao got complaints about speakers Blaring music at two in the morning.
-Cam hangs with RJ and shares ideas but he isn't allowed to tell Tommy about any of their conversations. The two may have had a thing in the past.
-Wolf rangers tend to have a powerful aura and they each meet together to talk about business, RJ has a bone themed secret landline he uses to contact them.( @sentinelofstories wolf war 👀😭)
-Due to Dai Shi the JF teams has a disdain for dragons, Serpentera count your days if you ever come back.
-Camille's rinshi form is just armor but was never accepted fully as a rinshi, she only became one to seem worthy in Dai Shi's eyes. The phantom beast hated her for many things and this was one of the reasons, thousands of years ago she murdered three previous members for nearly trying to assassinate her.
-Princess Shayla and the Wild Force rangers are on good terms with the JF team. Merrick follows RJ around like a lost puppy, Taylor spites Theo for being short, Lily tried to get Danny out of his shell. Max tries to explain modern day concepts to Camille, Alyssa and Dominic do small talk and Cole is given death glares from RJ or Jarrod because Casey has caught eyes for him.
-Casey is Gay, Lily is Bi, Theo is a straight ally, Camille and Jarrod are angry bisexuals, RJ is pan, Fran and Dom are unsure of what they are.
-It is unknown if dinosaurs can become animal spirits but Eric actively seeks out Casey to test this theory.
-Casey's favorite red ranger is TJ.
-The team watches movies each Thursday, Everyone except Lily can't handle watching Final Destination.
-it took some time but Jungle Fury had their crossover with RPM and its safe to say things were chaotic. Dillon and Jarrod pretty much had a staring contest with each other, RJ and Flynn got high for the most part, Scott kept crying tears of joy when Casey took him to see their world since it isn't destroyed, Theo wanted to throw himself out the window from hanging with Ziggy, Summer took Lily shopping and Camille was this close to murdering the twins but actually found herself warming up to them, she even went on a date with Gemma.
-Billy is on thin ice for trying to bring Zordon back and while RJ likes the dude he'd prefer that the giant head wouldn’t butt in on all of their affairs.

COVID-19 Claims the Lives of Three Jazz Greats
Tumblr media
The jazz world lost three of its most legendary musicians to COVID-19 this week.
Trumpeter Wallace Roney died Tuesday in New Jersey, pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis Jr. died Wednesday in New Orleans, and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli died on Wednesday in New Jersey. They were 59, 85 and 94, respectively.

Marsalis was a towering figure of modern jazz. Through his teaching, he became the patriarch of a musical family that extended well beyond the four sons who followed in his footsteps, report Janet McConnaughey and Rebecca Santan for the Associated Press.
“Ellis Marsalis was a legend,” wrote Mayor LaToya Cantrell of New Orleans, where the musician spent most of his life, on Twitter Wednesday night. “He was the prototype of what we mean when we talk about New Orleans jazz.”
The Marsalis family patriarch held teaching positions at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of New Orleans. He had retired just this year from a three-decade stint playing weekly gigs at a small New Orleans club called the Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro.
“With the passing of Marsalis, we have lost not only a gifted pianist, but also a person committed to the importance of music education and jazz history,” says Theo Gonzalves, curator of cultural and community life at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History.
Marsalis was known for his talents on the piano—he played alongside such greats as Cannonball Adderley and recorded more than 15 albums—but he was proudest of his legacy as a mentor and educator who carefully shepherded the next generation of musicians, including four of his six sons, reports Andrew Limbong for NPR.
“He was like the coach of jazz. He put on the sweatshirt, blew the whistle and made these guys work,” Nick Spitzer, host of public radio’s “American Routes” and a Tulane University anthropology professor, tells the AP.
Marsalis’ son Wynton is a trumpeter, as well as the artistic director of jazz at New York’s Lincoln Center. Branford took up the saxophone, leading “The Tonight Show” band and touring with Sting. Delfeayo, a trombonist, is a prominent producer and performer. Jason is a drummer of note with his band and as an accompanist. Marsalis’ two other sons—Ellis III, a poet-photographer, and Mboya—did not pursue music.
“My dad was a giant of a musician and teacher, but an even greater father. He poured everything he had into making us the best of what we could be,” says Branford in a statement.
Despite hailing from New Orleans, with its eponymous style of jazz, Marsalis’ musical heroes were virtuosic purveyors of bebop, including Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk. His devotion to “straight-ahead jazz” trickled down to his sons, as well as other musicians he taught, including Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison Jr., Harry Connick Jr. and Nicholas Payton, report Giovanni Russonello and Michael Levenson for the New York Times.
Marsalis’ children and students became the vanguard of “a burgeoning traditionalist movement, loosely referred to as the Young Lions,” write Russonello and Levenson in the Times. Roney, the trumpet player who died Tuesday, was one of these students.
In 2010, musician Anthony Brown and Ken Kimery, program director of Smithsonian Jazz, interviewed Marsalis for the Smithsonian Jazz Oral History Program. Recounting the conversation now, Kimery says the pianist “afforded us great insight into his family history, life in New Orleans,” favorite musicians and education, among other topics. The full transcript of the interview is available here.
Wallace Roney: Young Lion and Miles Davis Protégé

Horn player and composer Wallace Roney was one of the “Young Lions” influenced by the Marsalises, but his chief association is with his idol and mentor, Miles Davis.
A pivotal moment in the pair’s relationship took place at the 1991 Montreux Jazz Festival, reports Nate Chinen for NPR. Davis, recruited by producer Quincy Jones to perform two of his albums, insisted that Roney, who stood in for him during rehearsals, join him onstage.
The younger musician “instinctively jumped in to handle some of the more technically demanding parts, and implicitly joined a chain of succession,” writes Chinen.
This public endorsement from arguably the most famous trumpet player of all time immediately launched Roney to a new height of jazz celebrity—but it also dogged him as he sought to differentiate himself.
“[A]s his career went on, Mr. Roney managed to neutralize most of those criticisms,” writes Giovanni Russonello for the New York Times. “His nuanced understanding of Davis’s playing—its harmonic and rhythmic wirings as well as its smoldering tone—was only part of a vast musical ken. His own style bespoke an investment in the entire lineage of jazz trumpet playing.”
Roney released just under 20 albums as a bandleader. Fittingly, he won a 1994 Grammy for the album A Tribute to Miles.
A 1987 profile of Roney by James McBride of the Washington Post gave the musician a simple and unqualified introduction: “His name is Wallace Roney III. He is 27 years old. He is from Washington, and he is one of the best jazz trumpet players in the world.”
Critic Stanley Crouch, meanwhile, recalled a performance delivered by a teenage Roney in a 2000 profile for the New York Times.
“As soon as Mr. Roney commenced to swing, the noise level in the club immediately dropped off, and those in the middle of conversations or laughing and joking turned their attention to the bandstand,” wrote Crouch. “At the end of the tune, the room took on a crazily jubilant mood, and the clapping wouldn’t stop.”
Bucky Pizzarelli: A Supporting Player Who Moved to Center Stage

The eldest of the three jazz men who passed away this week was Bucky Pizzarelli, “a tasteful sage of jazz guitar who spent the first phase of his career as a prolific session player and the last phase as a celebrated patriarch,” according to Nate Chinen of NPR.
Pizzarelli’s tremendous command of his instrument allowed him to draw “attention to the song he was playing, rather than the playing itself,” adds Chinen. “His rock-solid rhythmic footing and broad harmonic understanding were hallmarks of a warmly understated style.”
Describing Pizzarelli as “a master of the subtle art of rhythm guitar as well as a gifted soloist,” Peter Keepnews of the New York Times notes that the musician appeared on hundreds of records across genres. More often than not, he went uncredited.
Pizzarelli toured with Benny Goodman and was a stalwart in Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” orchestra before the talk show moved taping from New York City to Los Angeles in 1972. When the production’s cast and crew packed up, Pizzarelli stayed behind and began making a name for himself in New York nightclubs.
The musician is survived by his son John, also a renowned jazz guitarist. The father-son duo performed and recorded together many times.
Pizzarelli’s signature seven-stringed guitar is on display at the National Museum of American History. The guitar’s extra string was tuned to a low A, allowing him to provide a bass line even when playing alone or in concert with another guitar player. The jazz legend—who performed into his 90s despite multiple hospitalizations caused by stroke and pneumonia—played the guitar up until the day he donated it to the museum in 2005.
In a 2016 interview with Inside Jersey’s Jay Lustig, guitarist Ed Laub, a student and collaborator of Pizzarelli’s, aptly summed up his mentor’s approach: “It’s about making beautiful music. It’s not about grandstanding. And that’s what his whole personality is about.”

(LeRoy Neiman / Photo by Richard Strauss, NMAH)
Reflecting on the trio of jazz giants’ legacy, curator Theo Gonzalves looks to a LeRoy Nieman painting on view at the National Museum of American History.
Called Big Band, it “features 18 of the greatest performers and composers of American music,” says Gonzalves. “When musicians like Wallace Roney, Bucky Pizarelli, and Ellis Marsalis pass away, we are lucky that we can take some solace by listening to their recordings. But isn’t it a comforting thought as well to imagine them, in a way that Nieman does, performing in concert for eternity?”

WHEN THE CURTAIN DROPS...
As cold and smooth as the marvel that paves your way in your glacial home you strut through your existence one day at a time, devoid of cares, the atmosphere impregnated with decadence and arrogance the instant you enter a room. Infamous to the point of premature immortality, your name drips from unworthy lips at intervals so regular you could set your clock after them and you revel in the attention, not differentiating between the kinds of it. Your ruthlessness was bestowed upon you genetically, through the greed of many female generations and the lust for power of many male generations before you, your family’s reputation having long preceded the potential formation of one of your own creation, snobbery and entitlement all but expected from you in every affair alike. You’re a wolf on the prowl, thirsting for blood, capable of making an ivory tower disintegrate with merely a snap of your fingers, tips coated in the ashes tumbling to the ground. There’s one regard that makes you stand out in comparison to the Granville men in charge before you — while, if said ivory tower was the Queen Victoria Ballet’s future, they would have done everything in their might to preserve it, you are far more likely to smirk at the sight of its ruins, another burden off your regal shoulders, your time no longer wasted on such excruciating banality.
...YOU SHOW YOUR TRUE COLOURS
For this is what it is to you beneath the surface, art of most kinds, but your condescension for any other artform can’t quite measure to that you harbour for ballet in particular. The Granville Foundation, the QVB’s most affluent supporter for the entirety of a century, is the biggest thorn in your side, a lousy obligation you tend to phlegmatically, a disapproving frown lingering on your lips at every meeting with their administrative manager, every show you’re forced to attend to keep up the charade, all for the family name. You’re the epitome of the poor little rich boy, dwelling in the comforts your wealth offers you but cursing your name the second it provides you with certain unpleasantries immutably attached to it. A fortune meant freedom you used to believe, a mindset heavily enforced by your parents; the freedom to do as one pleases with no need for excuses, to spend one’s money on whatever one’s crippled heart desires, to only fake a smile for the people you deem worthy of being on the receiving end of it. Perhaps you should have become an actor after all — being the dedicated sponsor of the Queen Victoria Ballet certainly feels like the role of a lifetime, long overdue for an Academy Award, if only for every English curse you’ve suppressed or at least substituted with an equal unpleasantry muttered in Russian.
VICTIM OR CULPRIT?
For thirty years you have carried the weight of the Granville name, your recently acquired position as the director of the Granville Foundation putting you in direct contact with the QVB countless times throughout the year, each of them one too many in your book. The name Elijah Granville has become a bearer of doom among the staff, your resemblance to Theo James what most consider to be your only redeeming quality.
IN RELATION TO
NORAH MONROE: Her face is the one you have to see the most whenever duty calls, a fact that has neither prompted you to like or dislike her more than initially. You suppose it is safe to assume that of all the illustrious characters the Queen Victoria Ballet has to offer, she might just be on the more bearable side being more pragmatic than in your eyes any professional artist could ever be. Nevertheless, your disputes about this travesty’s finances make your stomach twist weeks in advance, though you settle them as amicably as possibly considering your blatant lack of interest for what your funds are to sponsor. ALIONA CHERNOVA: At first glance, she was nothing more than another danseuse or however they call them in ballet-speak, an airheaded chorus girl sitting pretty in tulle of infantile appearance, yet another reason for the unpleasantry of your troubled existence. It wasn’t until the quiet shadow lurking in a corner revealed herself as a fellow Russian that you paid any attention to her, her humour as dry as yours, her dissatisfaction rarely voiced but apparent through her entire pronunciation and mannerism. At least this is a small consolation for you, that even for the most dedicated slaves to the ballet it isn’t a world of sunshine, rainbows and lollipops, even though you sometimes catch yourself wishing she could live up to her family name as you do to yours sans the downsides you endure. JOSH FLANNIGAN: A blurry vision from your childhood he is merely an added inconvenience to your suffering now that he appears to have made the Queen Victoria Opera House his second home, crossing your path seemingly every single time you are forced to enter the hollow, underwhelming halls of the establishment. His glare is so spiteful it caused you to take stock of yourself once, for a fleeting instant, the conclusion you were meant to reach chased away by distraction or greater concerns long before it could have come in sight. If someone has the time to cling onto grudges from their infantile past, all you have to spare for them is pity.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Chances of Survival: Above average Applicant must be open to portraying n/a (UTP) Faceclaim is slightly negotiable (suggested alternative: Henry Cavill)
Starring: Lia as Elijah Granville
Picture a man with effortless access to all of the luxuries and comforts this world can offer. Picture that man devoid of nurturing elders and lessons in morality. If that man were to look in the mirror he’d recognise himself as Elijah Granville, profess himself as a god among mere mortals. It’s not because he’s truly that arrogant, but because he doesn’t know any better, doesn’t care enough to look and see. Maybe if his parents had been warmer, the staff that raised him more forceful and less subservient, peers more varied in circumstance, maybe then he could have been better. Only now he believes he is the best. There is nothing he wants for, or knows well enough to realise he is lacking, and there’s certainly not enough passion in his heart to stir and crave a different path. For everything he is; he is nothing, vapour, coasting through life with momentary flickers of association to other humans, to his own heart. Utterly numb to the beauty of art and people, mechanic in the taking of all that is named sinful, named debauched, sedated to the buzz. Poison from an errant tongue coiling slowly around the mind.
Arm outstretched along the line of the chair, a tumbler of whiskey settled to the side of it, some gauchely pretty young blonde in the seat to his left. The usual appearance of Elijah Granville as he seems to encompass the entire box reserved solely for his use. Even the way his eyes practically glaze over as they roam the stage for appearance’s sake, all too familiar. The blonde makes the mistake of speaking, of assuming that is her use. Some pathetic wonder expressed at the dancer’s, a quick admission of insecurity. “You’re right, darling, you could never look so graceful.” It’s unusual for him to respond to such futility, preying for his attention, but the bite of the words are enough to humour him for just a moment. He thinks so litte of those on the stage that her dismissal as even lesser seems a stunning indignity, punishment that she has opened her mouth in a way that doesn’t service him. Maria, or Louisa, or Emilia, settles back in her chair, deflated against the velvet. It is then, just after he strikes, that he moves. Forcing her to follow suit by expectation. Only when she has risen does he shake his head. No, no. “Stay here. You have lessons to learn, do you not.” The experience is surely soured for her, but he makes no note of it, is not intentionally cruel as he leaves her to stew alone. Leisurely strides have him backstage within moments, unfazed as he walks a straight path so all those buzzing in their hurry have to move around him. A figure he briefly acknowledges as familiar, a queen in the hive, steps out of his way, no notion to question him. He pushes open a fire escape and steps outdoors. There are no bodies to deal with, no smokers attempting pleasantries. His goal accomplished, to avoid the droning tones of theatregoers and the effort to cover his distaste. There’s very little he denies himself, but a line is still drawn at smoking indoors. More for the way they’ll surely bump up the cost of smoke damage or refunded tickets for alarms blaring, than for respect of the theatre. Architecture perhaps one allowance in its beauty, he holds too much venom for the funds the theatre siphons from him to recognise any attribute. Handrolled filters greet him in a sterling silver case, less pretentious than one might imagine, given how bashed and nicked the case truly is. A questionable hand-me-down from his grandfather when he was a boy, the picture of magnanimity at some fundraiser or another, a story regaled by the presses who happened upon the scene. He taps the cigarette against the lid of the box, allowing any stray tobacco to fall, or perhaps just for the habit of it when the cigarettes always look immaculate and machine pressed instead of forged by his hand. Just as he’s raising it to his lips, calamity strikes. “I’m sorry, you’re not supposed to..” Owlish features turn on the woman, and she steps back in response. Theatrically he settles the cigarette back in place, “Do finish that sentence.” Finally some real entertainment. Except she seems frozen in place, all too aware of her error at this point. “You’re not.. You can’t.” A scoff as he clicks the case shut, lest he drop them all on the ground and force her to her hands and knees. Unless you’re new here is on the tip of his tongue, but it seems too much an excuse, a kindness. “I can and I will. And I am.” he doesn’t stoop, doesn’t press forward, and yet the intensity of his words force a closeness and presume an attack. “Now shut the door and wait right there until I knock.” “I’ve got work..” “Yes, you have got work in making up for your ignorance. So hush now, let’s not fall out. I wont repeat myself” He doesn’t need to, for she closes the fire exit in front of her. He’s not one for grudges, not at all, so he finishes his cigarette, watches the smoke plume into the night sky, a far better dancer than inside the building, and doesn’t linger further. Knocks against the door to be let inside. A mistake to let him in, if ever there was one.

Pickups of the Week: Rashaad Penny demands fantasy attention
Rashaad Penny finally breaks out
Penny certainly had the look of a first-round running back on Sunday, piling up 108 yards and one score on a dozen carries against the Rams. Check his highlight reel and you’ll see quick feet, excellent decision-making and powerful finishes. Veteran Mike Davis got the start for Seattle in relief of the injured Chris Carson (quad, hip). He out-snapped Penny, 39 to 27, but the rookie was a revelation.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was clearly pleased:
“Today [Penny] busted out,’’ Carroll said. “We’ve been challenging him to get right and to work at the right tempo and find what it’s like to be a pro, just teaching a young guy trying to figure it out. … I thought today he needed it so badly. He knows he’s a great player. He just hasn’t been able to demonstrate it.’’
You shouldn’t need an expert to tell you that a talented rusher coming off a 100-yard performance is a priority fantasy add. Penny is available at the moment in over 85 percent of Yahoo leagues, and he should have a meaningful role in Thursday night’s home matchup with Green Bay. Go get him. Carson is expected to return this week, if Carroll can be believed, but Penny has earned a share of the backfield touches.
Schedule, next three weeks: GB, at Car, SF
FAAB bid ($100 budget): $16

More
Theo Riddick keeps PPRing, hauls in another six passes
Riddick has caught 13 balls for 96 yards over Detroit’s last two games, emerging as perhaps the biggest statistical winner following the Golden Tate trade. He has almost no role as a rusher — in fact, he hasn’t received a carry since Week 5 — but the PPR managers among you don’t really care. Riddick has a well-understood role in the Lions’ offense; he’s likely to see 6-10 targets per week moving forward. If you play in a full-point per reception fantasy format, he’s clearly on the radar.
Schedule, next three weeks: Car, Chi, LAR
FAAB bid: $4
Anthony Miller makes another house call
Miller has feasted over the past five weeks, reaching the end-zone three times while catching 16 passes on 30 targets. He’s coming off a season-best 122-yard effort versus the Lions, a performance that included this long score against remarkably poor defense:
With six teams on bye in the week ahead, Miller should be considered a viable WR3 for fantasy purposes. Add as needed.
Schedule, next three weeks: Min, at Det, at NYG
FAAB bid: $10
Josh Adams can expect an uptick in touches
To be clear, we aren’t simply speculating about an increase in usage for Adams. Philadelphia’s head coach says it’s happening:
Adams has rushed for 108 yards on just 16 carries over Philly’s last two games and he’s averaging 5.7 YPC for the season. He’s not the flashiest runner, but he’s a large human (6-foot-2, 225) who makes good decisions and generally gains every inch that’s blocked. He was plenty effective at the collegiate level for Notre Dame, rushing for 1430 yards (6.9 YPC) and nine scores last year. Next week’s matchup with New Orleans isn’t at all appealing, as the Saints have the league’s stingiest run defense (3.7 YPC, 80.1 rush YPG). But the schedule takes a friendly turn in Week 12 when the Eagles host the Giants.
Schedule, next three weeks: at NO, NYG, Was
FAAB bid: $9
Suddenly, Marcus Mariota can’t be stopped
Mariota opened his season by throwing just two touchdown passes in his first five games, a rare level of ineffectiveness in the modern NFL. But he’s directed wins over Dallas and New England over the past two weeks, delivering a pair of TD tosses in each game and rushing for another score. Over the last four weeks, he’s averaged 8.2 yards per attempt. We’re beginning to see the sort of efficiency for which OC Matt LaFleur is known.
Story Continues
Tennessee has been a Jekyll/Hyde team so far this season, knocking off the Patriots and Eagles yet losing games to the Bills and Dolphins. The offense is rolling in recent weeks and next Sunday’s matchup with the Colts isn’t too intimidating. Indy ranks in the bottom-third of the league in both yards and points allowed. If you’re looking for a bye-week placeholder at QB, Mariota can help.
Schedule, next three weeks: at Ind, at Hou, NYJ
FAAB bid: $8

Lamar Jackson, high-upside fantasy stash
Joe Flacco is dealing with a hip injury of as-yet-unknown severity, raising the possibility that Jackson could soon make his first pro start. He’s a thrilling runner who was simply unfair at Louisville. Jackson isn’t a particularly accurate passer by NFL standards, but his rare rushing ability is enough to vault him into the starting conversation in fantasy. Think of him as something like a combination of a QB2 and RB2. Baltimore’s rest-of-season schedule is loaded with stellar matchups, including four of the league’s five worst pass defenses. Get Jackson wherever you can, even if it’s just to keep him away from a future opponent.
Schedule, next three weeks: Cin, Oak, at Atl
FAAB bid: $12
Arizona Cardinals to host the tanking Raiders
OK, so Jon Gruden might still be insisting that Oakland is not, in fact, aggressively tanking in 2018. But c’mon. The Raiders have been a mostly brutal watch. The team ranks No. 30 in scoring (16.3 PPG) and is tied for tenth in giveaways (13). Derek Carr has been sacked 28 times, the sixth highest total in the NFL. Arizona’s defense has been something less than dominant this season, but Oakland is an unusually inept opponent. Expect 8-12 fantasy points from the Cards in Week 11.
Schedule, next three weeks: Oak, at LAC, at GB
