its not hate cuz i love their dynamic but framing reinhilde as a love match is hilarious .. i can buy yang/frederica cuz yang is need of mommy doms but reinhilde is a lavender marriage. also ry would also be a lavender marriage to me the appeal of reinyang is yang to reinhard is like the girl that got away .. reinhard’s one true ‘equal’ that he could never gain supremacy over or sublimate into his camp. and yang has a sort of abstract admiration for reinhard as a historical figure but also recognizes that hes his ideological foe/nightmare of sorts in the present lol

7.5/10, to me history, mini odysseys n shit n mythmaking by characters in a narrative is something tanaka seems to have a consistent interest in if u take his other works into account and i feel like u can tell that lotgh was his first foray into space opera & milsf w/o even getting into his other works .. theres lingering plot threads that dont rly go anywhere or arent answered satisfactorily (the entire earth cult-fezzan-lang connection is rly weak in terms of writing. yang disavowing conspiracies & terrorism as ‘impacting the flow of history’ couldve been a cruel stroke of irony if the terrorist conspiracy was in anyway narratively coherent).& an overarching motif of the series being the idea of ‘might makes right’ not only attracts an unsavory crowd of fans to say it politely.. but it also weakens a good bit of the series as yang is physically ‘weak’ but mentally + strategically a genius , he has no real conflicting force in his camp outside of schonkopf at a certain point where reinhard has oberstein hilde + reuenthal who all have their own ideological deigns on him as hes the leader of his camp. yang being so cerebral + very easygoing/bereft of the desire to have power dynamics despite being a military leader (seeing his subordinates as friends, rather than lord and master) makes him a very fun character but in later arcs it lends him to being a bit of a device/ insert for meta ideals more than having internal conflicts as a character of his own right & it makes me so sad bc just when he has one of his biggest dilemmas he CENSORED. also if the story dealt w/ reinhard’s final arc more (namely the revelation he has of REDACTED considering how much of his identity is built around his militaristic might) id rly love it. im speaking vaguely bc my friends r watching & ion wanna spoil and i also feel like im being mean to this series but i rly do like this series TTvTT

boy A, boy B, and boy C are all mutually in love but A has decided to only pursue B because he thinks being in love with TWO people is weird and he knows C is very closed off, but B is the one with the heaviest internalized homophobia so its really difficult.. C sees A courting B and is like "guess im fucked, no chance with either of em" and avoids the other two like the plague, but B is also trying really hard to avoid A when he realizes whats going on because hes scared of getting in a relationship with him and thinks that if/when hes forced to directly reject him then he'll lose him even just as a friend, so hes trying to seek out C as much as possible so that he'll have at least one of his loves when he loses the other.. A realizes B is avoiding him, and now hes ALSO seeking out C, not to pursue him but for comfort and because he thinks hes lost B.

Lappy fancam animatic blogging/production notes

now that wolfgirlyaoi is out on global its rambling time about my powerpoint presentation

Concept

Originally I wanted to do an (Tex & Lapp) animatic with the boss theme (broken wall/Signore dei Lupi .mp3) ever since the event dropped but I thought 1) by the time I finished anything someone else would have probably already done it first (lol, lmao even) 2) I remembered the song exists and how much i looped it then while listening to the group's new album drop and thought the lyrics fit Lapp a little too well and also doesn't end abruptly like the boss theme + was shorter so yea

initial stickman storyboard where i put down the lyrics with event dialogue/happenings that i felt would fit nicely together > hastily scribble the images that form in my head

storyboards were basically what i wanted to see (same rule as my comics) lol especially if they weren't shown in the event CGs, eg. there's a CG of the truck crashing into the courtroom so I didn't do that but they didn't mention her physical acting in that scene + the song I used has a bow/salute at that exact part in their live choreo with the very similar line so I wanted to do a homage even though-

-I was like it's going to be such a pain to figure out an economical hand twirl and bow but I have to do this I need to transplant the image in my brain onto the screen because official media did not do a—

Honestly still don't know if its a common phrase and action combo because I was having so much trouble finding external references that wasn't just scrubbing the live video over and over anyway

part of the storyboards were 'recycled' from comic drafts I did (of the chocolate scene because ofc) when the event was running on CN

Originally I wanted to draw Lapp feeding Texas for The Girlyaoi Funny but I wanted to reference the plaque you get which is a Creation of Adam reference right but I also saw people saying it's referencing the scene from Silence of the Lambs lol so...peel the layers to your liking!!

(The chocolate flavour choice was from asking my Columbian friends what the worst chocolate flavour they ever tried which was white coconut)

Art Direction

A bunch of shots/colour schemes are references to Måneskin's stuff or other media tehepero I'll just put a few here

At first I was going to limit red/blue to tex/lapp respectively but since Omertosa is blue I just did away with that rule and lapp gets to have both (and more!) these two colours have pretty obvious emotional readings I think but also

red = self blue = society Siracusa or: red = yaoi & blue = yuri

for the others:

Purple = Alberto/Saluzzo, its not orange like the fruit he keeps holding because see below; I needed the colour for something else LOL Also the Saluzzos are iirc nobility or whatever and they have purple hints in their clothes so I think it was a good fit anyway

Yellow/Orange = Its supposed to be representing the last word in the story which apparently, yostar went with 'Savagery' which is Correct I guess but (laments again about how nuance is lost in localisation because imo savagery has a more derogatory kind of connotation while I think 蛮荒 in context of the story also has a 'nature/untouched by civilisation' side to it) which is why Texas setting the house on fire was not (entirely) red but orange (and it complements the blues both visually and thematically) and it's yellow at the end when they're frolicking(?) in the wilderness lol

(these colour rules don't apply to the penglog shot and technically a few frames like the shot with shocked penance, the one right after and 'im just lappy' because...i forgor my own rules lol)

The greens/teals were just a reference to the shades in the 3DPV I think

The silhouette/general style was inspired from the 3D teaser thing they had at the beginning of the 3.5 anniversary stream and the card suits that I..forgot to move to the other layers which is why only the green one had them (supposed to be 1 per set 💀)

The clash bit is basically the same as the event CG but with a flipped camera/POV sorry for world's worst screenshot lmao. Couldn't imagine the poses in my head so I ended up posing 3d models in CSP pretty good posing practice

These shots got rendered extra because..they were the first frames I started on and I was still figuring out how much to simplify lol

I also posed the chairs shot for some inexplicable reason…my file was lagging so bad

Headcanon part (kind of)

The childhood flashback scene is probably the part I took the most liberties (headcanon) on since it's not explicitly canon like the rest...the sequence/how I connected the scenes itself to fabricate a timeline of her childhood was kind of inspired by some weibo post musing about how (iirc) texas's sweet tooth maybe came from when she was being fostered at casa Saluzzo and Lapp treating her like a pet essentially and giving her a lot of treats since...you know what happened to her actual pet hehe except maybe texas offered her a stick first and then Lappy just reciprocated endlessly because its one of the few 'acts' she knew that wasn't violence haha yeah this section was basically a stealth doujin sorry

It's mentioned that she was brought up as the ideal Siracusan or whatever and she does the cute doodle in the 3DPV so I thought she probably had the Forced Music Lessons as a kid (The music sheets are Bella Ciao and of course)

The bow choreo was the one thing i really wanted to animate but the music sheet segment (based on that one split second shot above) ended up being my favourite part even though compositing the motion was a mini hell on it's own (ended up compiling a long png to scroll by with the red doodles layered over)

Other things

I will never live down my (self-imposed) shame of misspelling the title (I fixed the title on youtube but its why the ending shot in the upload says ZittE e Buoni instead of ZittI e Buoni) don't rush your fancam in 10 days 😔

I didn't look through the entirety of the EN loc but Idk why they had Lappy say 'Then go.' to Texas when it's supposed to be more like 'Let's go.' as in, 'let's go together' as opposed to 'alright off you go to the greyhall alone' lmfao also her saying goodbye forever padre when addio is right there

I don't think I'm insane enough to do another ppt soon but man this pair really makes the 'imagines a whole music video while listening to music' part of my brain go wheee like first it was Starset's Manifest then Signore de Lupi then this and while working on this one i was thinking how Måneskin's Torna A Casa would be another good track

okay i got interesting take

in my opinion, like 90% of straight romances/ships are FUCKING BORING, and usually try to spice it up, by adding more girls, this opinion i hold so dear, that i was on verge from.trying to strangle my friend, for saying <insert harem name> was really good romance.

But why could that be so? because lots of straight romances just follows base line of, "cute/shy" or whatever girl, and more dominant than her guy with interests like "i literally just exist in this series with no other purpose than wanting gf", and follow most basic set gender standards, and most basic made up relationship dysmorphia where girl is clearly bottom, and guy is the top/he "leads" the relationship, you get what i mean? 100% not, it wont stop me tho.

While yuri/yaoi ships always derive from most boring version of relationship that church people gaslit us into thinking is only valid way, by sheer fact that either both character fill same role or one of them has to not follow the most basic made up gender rules, like bottom.guy, or maybe huge girl who searches for little bunny girl etc. Like, just taking most basic romance plot ever, and genderbending one of characters by itself changes whole vibe so much!

But ofc, not all straight romances are bad, that would imply any romance is bad (i mean, there are few bad romances, like wanting to date children, but for sake of this ride of a post, we are talking about 2 consenting people of either similar age for teenagers, or just 2 consenting adults ok?), but the only good straight romances i saw, were the ones that just didnt really gave much fuck about being the most generic romance plot, and doing that would make any romance good (m/m, m/f, f/f etc), one of my favourite examples, would be violet evergarden! yeah, it does for the most part follow the rules of strong protective man, and small fragile girl (except for the fact that violet absolutelly kicks ass), but series itself isnt about 2 charcaters dating, Its about violet learning what love is, and not just romantic one, she learns about sibling love, parent/child love, love for world, love for work and many more! What makes it good is not us seeing them dating, its how we togehder with Violet slowly learn more about love, slowly growing attached to him, this love story is very beautifull, because its not focusing on that part.

(at this point i had hard time finding more proof of good hetero romances, so i had to dig throught list if stuff i watched etc) Also, one of my fave mangas of all time, was domestic na kanojo, where the romance being interesting, was enforced by, lemme check my notes, 2 sisters competing for their step brother, where 1 is his teacher and other is girl he lost virginity with. You can see im streching my arguments at this point huh. Whatever, in this series, what makes it actually interesting love story and not easy porn material, is all the hardships charcaters go throught, and questions it gives! Natsuo wanting hina, but knowing its just some stupid kids love, constantly hurting rui as resoult of his inner conflict about hina, wanting to get close with rui, and suddenly cutting it off because he is just a kid who is scared, of what might be, as i used to be kid, i very much know the feeling od wanting to do something, but being scared to commit, constantly swinging between wanting it, and being afraid, only hurting other in process.

okay this one is quite boring romance, but in interesting way so as per last argument, lets talk about "Rascal does not dream about bunny girl senpai" where mc gets the girl after like 2 episodes, and then we just see them, chill like cute couple, or get a bit jealous, its not much, but i find it interesting to see quite realistic (from standpoint of someone who's longest relationship lasted 2 months, including 1 month breakup), but she anime isnt about it, so seeing them being nice, realistiy behaving couple is nice addition

In conclusion, straight romances fucking suck and dont recomend them to me without 3 pages explanation why it doesnt suck, harems get instant no-no tho

what are bells favorite tropes in Yuri/Yaoi. I must know

i think with yaoi bell likes when it feels like yuri, ie theres crossdressing involved...

with yuri bells favorite tropes are like... codependency, fixation, caretaking. ie a story about an ill girl/the girl nursing her, or any kind of like... forbidden love/taboo story where the thrust is 'because we share this bond/because we share complicity in breaking taboo i can be more special to you than anyone else'. i think bell likes those stories of like maddening levels of attachment and the idea that someone can be loved in a way they can never turn back from, as she has a lot of abandonment issues dfgdfg. for similar reasons ofc she loves anything with a kind of cgl dynamic

she also really enjoys evil sex comedy gag manga style yuri. i think she'd really like whatever the equivilant of yuru yuri is in the setting

I need to rant for a minute.

And also, I say this without doing any proper research into Japanese laws, culture, etc. I'll just speak about my experience with it over the years.

So yaoi is controversial, it always has been. There's like... 8 different sides. The homophobes, the fujoshis, the fetishists, those who think yaoi shouldn't exist but for the exact opposite reason the homophobes do, and so on.

My earliest experience with yaoi was during a time when I didn't even know homophobia existed. So to me, yaoi was just "man gets with man", the same way I'd view any romance of man gets with woman. Just... romance. That's it. But I was also well aware that gay romances were rare. So when I watched my first yaoi, it was a 2 part OVA series, and well... I didn't expect it to be so explicit. Now I was very well aware of hentai, which is basically porn. Straight anime porn. So I assumed then that yaoi basically just meant gay anime porn. And so bc it was such a rare thing to see, I looked into it, and watched them all. Basically all in a row. It wasn't hard lol there's not that many and they're short. At max, 4 eps per show, mostly 2 eps on average. They all featured sex scenes. Some more explicit than the others. The plots weren't anything to write home about ofc. It was basically porn.

Through this was the discovery of shounen-ai. More about the romance than the sex. Usually a 12 ep anime series. Again, the stories for most of these were nothing to write home about.

Junjou Romantica became the most famous bc it was a mix of both. It was about the romance, but they did have sex (non-explicit). And this show got 3 seasons. And a spin-off, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi. Very, VERY rare for a gay romance to have that.

Now Junjou itself is controversial (I get why). But outside of that, its kind of the "ideal" romance anime, in a sense. If you imagine you're watching one of the thousands of romance animes with a straight couple, and you're always wondering when they're gonna kiss, and when they do kiss, when will be the next time?? Well Junjou is like, "yeah but they're adults so we're not gonna just build up to a kiss, we'll... give you a little more". I can only think of two "straight" romance animes that had sex scenes outside of ecchi and harem nonsense. It was a finale episode of a non-romance anime called Kiseijuu where they two mains get together and they have sex (its not explicit)

The genres for this anime were:

Its a really good anime. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll re-watch it someday.

But here's the point I'm getting at.

Romance was not listed as a genre.

When an anime wants you to know its gonna have a gay couple in it, it will use the following terms:

Gay sex is yaoi, gay romance is shounen-ai, lesbian sex is yuri and lesbian romance is shoujo-ai.

When an anime wants you to know its gonna have a straight couple, it will use the following terms:

Straight sex is hentai and straight romance is just romance.

Here's what gets to me.

In Kiseijuu, in this anime where romance isn't listed as a main genre in any way, the couple is still implied the whole time. The show is full of action and plot but these two are hinted at. And then they get together. And they kiss. And they have sex.

Something like Inuyasha, which is a shounen-adventure series, does have romance as a genre

You straight up KNOW the main characters will get together. For Kiseijuu, its not so directly out there like Inuyasha and Kagome, but heavily implied. And then the result is that they do get together, despite it not being a romance anime, or having romance listed as a genre.

My frustration is why can't this happen with gay couples.

ACCA is a great anime, and its genres are these:

I, for the most part, never ever truly care for the main implied couple in a show, but I'm always rooting for them. I'm rooting for Inuyasha & Kagome, I'm rooting for Ed & Winry, I'm rooting for Eren & Mikasa.

And if I see an ending kiss, or an ending hand-hold, or literally anything that implies "we're a thing", I feel joy. I swoon a little bit. Cause its so damn cute.

In ACCA, if you replaced either of these two with a female character, you just know what the show is hinting at, despite romance not being a genre. Bc as we know, if a show has the genres "action, adventure, magic" and there's a leading dude and a leading gal..... flirting the whole time....... they're still gonna get together.

Like, I would love to see at the end of this, these two looking at each other in a romantic way (so you, the audience, gets it), and then it ends. Even that. Even something as mild as that.

That an anime doesn't have to have the explicit genres of "yaoi" or "shounen-ai" so you know you're defo going into an anime where the plot is basically about the two main males getting together.

Give me an action anime where it just so happens that the leading guy has insane chemistry with his best friend and so the whole time you're thinking "damn I love the fight scenes in this anime, and the plot is fantastic. ...and also, they totally have to get together" AND THEN THEY DO and its just NORMAL cause its IMPLIED THE WHOEL TIME, its not just random GAYBAITING or FANSERVICE, its just a very obvious pair who you can clearly see fell for each other throughout the course of the action packed show.
