NOONA — 43: virgin with a capital P (+written 0.4k)
Tumblr media
repetitive heavy bangs came from the front door, one quickly following after the last without a second in between, "stop trying to break the door, what is wrong with yo-"
yns sentence quickly got interrupted when a figure decided to tackle her into a hug the second he saw the door creak open, and although she had never been too fond of physical touch she found her arms wrapping tight around the blonde boy.
"oh my god, you’re actually here," peeking his head out to look at her, "you’re actually back."
"well yeah. was meant to be a surprise until i was some other girl touching up on you," yn rolled her eyes playfully trying to push sunghoon off her — if he even allowed her. she felt him internally panicking trying to pull her closer.
"no! you know its not like it come on," he sulked, giving her his best puppy eyes. "i was trying to get away but she was being pushy and you know i only care about you."
petting him a few times on the head, "yeah, yeah i know. cant really blame her though, blonde really suits you." running her hand through the strands of his newly dyed hair, watching the blonde move with each stroke of her hands.
"you like it?" sunghoon asked stupidly, who in their right mind would not like it. not yn. he looked at her as if his question even garnered a different response.
"id be blind not you, you look good."
"better than jake?"
"you little shit," she giggled, "can we get away from the front door my leg is cramping." yn tried to walk back into the living room, a task she found hard to do with a specific blonde boy who showed no signs of letting her go anytime soon. "you gonna let me go or what?"
all he did was shake his head, his intentions were clear from the start pulling a fake groan from yn, "okay well, i’ve been up for almost twenty hours i’m taking a nap."
"ohh, cuddling. didn’t know you liked me like that noona," he winked, finding her annoyance amusing.
"okay. leave me then and let me sleep alone," she pushed him away jokingly, laying on the sofa ready to sleep.
"NO! you cant sleep without me," he whined, laying beside her stiff.
already feeling sunghoons previous awkwardness around her start to return"you can hold me you know. i don’t mind." she whispered, but soon she felt arms wrapping around her waist and a head nuzzling into her chest, "now sleep, i’m tired."

in another time, a gladiator stucky au by @tempestaurora

Sunlight dappled across the stone floor, casting cool, dancing shadows in the summer heat. Bucky yawned and stretched, flexing his toes into the sunspots and smiling from the warmth. He watched the newest boy to the school, a scrawny thing called Steve, stand alone in the courtyard.
He tipped his head to the side and called out, “New boy! Over here!”
Steve had straw blonde hair and eyes like the Aegean Sea. He seemed hesitant for a moment before heading over. When he arrived, he looked at Bucky like he might bite, but after sitting, he simply melted into the sunspot Bucky had found.
“You’re pretty small,” Bucky observed. “Your family sell you?”
“What? No, they didn’t.” Steve’s eyebrows furrowed; he seemed insulted by the mere notion. “Your family sell you?”
Bucky shrugged. “Indentured, actually,” he replied. “But they’re practically the same thing. Why are you here, then? You have dreams of being a gladiator?”
Steve scoffed. “No. I don’t. But it was either this or live on the streets.” He paused, twisting his fingers into his tunic. “My mater died, recently. She was all I had.”
Bucky stilled. “Oh,” he said. “Perhaps she is better off now; perhaps she is in the Land of Joy.”
Steve nodded, barely. “There are few places better than the underworld, these days.”

Steve may have been small, but he was fast. He twisted and turned in combat, picked up the skills with ease, and learnt to use his size to his advantage. If he got hit, he was down, so Steve learned to avoid the punches thrown his way.
They trained year-round, through summer heat and winter snow, and soon they grew. Everything Steve learned about being small and fast was discarded when he hit his growth spurt at fourteen, suddenly taller than half his class and finally able to make the attacks, not simply dodge them. He watched Bucky often; the two of them nigh inseparable since his arrival at the school. Bucky was not a golden student, but he was a golden boy; his eyes were like Jupiter’s sky and his hair grew thick and dark in a shaggy mess.
There were few things Steve found himself caring about more than the only boy in all of Italia who knew him, inside and out.
[Beneath is a photo of  the ruins of a temple of Saturn, backlit by the sun. It is ethereal and quiet-looking, with green fields interspersed with crumbled architecture.]

They had climbed up onto the roof of the gymnasium to gaze at the sweep of stars painted high above their town.
“Do you think you’ll be up there one day?” Steve whispered in the dark.
“In the sky?”
“The stars,” Steve clarified. “All the great heroes are immortalised in the stars.”
Bucky shook his head. “I don’t think I’ll be a hero – there’s not a drop of godly blood in me. What about you?”
“I don’t want to be a hero,” Steve replied. “I just want to travel; to see all of Italia and beyond. Pompeii and Corinth – maybe even see the Oracle of Delphi, one day.”
Bucky smiled. “I’d like that. I don’t want to be fighting forever.”
“Come with me,” Steve said. “We could go anywhere. We could go everywhere.”
Bucky stared at Steve under the star-lit sky and smiled.

When they were eighteen, they moved to Rome. The Ludus Magnus gladiator school sat in spitting distance of the coliseum, and this was where they trained. They had long been learning their preferred style of combat – Steve, after shooting up and broadening, fought as a Thracian, with his broad-rimmed helmet, small rounded shield and curved sword. His only armour consisted of thigh-length grieves, while Bucky was granted a chest plate and greaves as a Dimachaerus, dual-wielding two swords.
They fought regularly in practice, but never in the ring drawn into the sand in front of an audience. There was a palpable fear Steve felt at making Bucky bleed. Some nights, he whispered prayers to whatever god might deign to listen – perhaps Mars, for war, or Venus, for love – and pleaded with them to never pit him against Bucky.
[On the right hand side is a close-up of a temple’s columns, with sunlight poking between.]

Bucky knew Steve was watching from beyond the Gate of Life as he stepped into the ring for his first gladiatorial combat in the arena. Steve had already won his earlier that day in front of roaring crowds and amused royalty in the Emperor’s box.
Now it was Bucky’s turn, and he twisted his swords in his fingers, facing down his opponent across the ring. Bucky knew their job was to fight – fight and possibly even die – but he also knew his job was to give them all a show.
And Bucky was nothing if not a showman.
In the end, blood stained the sand a vivid red, but Bucky strode towards the Gate of Life, triumphant.
SIXTH IMAGE:

There were always popular gladiators, and Steve didn’t know how to react, finding himself to be one of them. Women lined up outside the bathhouses he frequented; shared rumours that dipping their hairpins in his blood might bring them love, that his sweat would work as an aphrodisiac.
“I can see their point,” Bucky whispered one night, his mouth ravenous against Steve’s after a long day of training. Their bodies were always animalistic in these moments, whilst the school was empty and the others were out drinking the night away. They took everything they could get from each other; swallowed each sensation whole.
Steve never wanted these moments to end. He would throw all the glory and money away for more time with Bucky, for more nights like this.
SEVENTH IMAGE:
vii.
After amphitheatre fights, admirers and buyers alike would flock to the school where the gladiators lounged on cushions and benches, drinking wine and eating expensive foods. These were the nights Bucky enjoyed the most. No one was allowed to approach unless beckoned by a gladiator, and Bucky would often spend time toying with the admirers, allowing one or two over before sending them away again. Eventually, after the show, he’d slip away into the sleeping quarters or empty storage cupboard, and find Steve waiting there for him.
There was a miles-long list of things Bucky loved about Steve’s body, but number one on the list was how it fit against his own in the dark.
[Cut into the left side is a photo of the Coliseum in Rome.]
EIGHTH IMAGE:
viii.
A few days before the festival, culminating in three days of games at the coliseum, their master told Steve and Bucky that they were scheduled to fight.
“It’ll be fine,” they told each other in the dark. “The fights rarely end in death. We’re not fighting to kill. We’re fighting to entertain.”
“We’re performers,” Bucky would say. “We’re just there to give them a good time.”
“Don’t act like no one ever dies,” Steve would reply, each and every time. “Don’t act like we haven’t killed our opponents before.” Sometimes, friends would enter the ring with them and never leave it. Sometimes, the audience called for their deaths.
It was blood lust, through and through. The men caught hold of that first splash of red and couldn’t let it go; they had to see more, they had to see death in all its forms. The gladiator could’ve fought bravely, wonderfully, and they might still end up slumped in the sand afterwards.
“Soon,” they would say, “we’ll retire and leave this for good. Soon, we’ll travel the world, like we always planned.” They would whisper lies and truths to each other, desperately tangling them together until they couldn’t tell them apart.
NINTH IMAGE:
ix.
On the day of the fight, Steve stepped into the ring opposite Bucky and breathed in the cheering crowd; the hot, midday sun. They had kissed in the shadow of the underground corridors, and now faced each other, weapons raised, poised for battle.
It was bloody from the get-go; they were entertainers after all, and the audience was only entertained when they saw the streak of blood dampening the sand. They twisted and turned as if they were dancing, as if there was music playing and this was them, centre stage, having the time of their lives rather than anxiously hoping their blades wouldn’t cut too deep, that the bruises would soon heal.
And then Steve’s sword slashed too harshly at Bucky’s side and he faltered, hissing.
“Bucky—” Steve said, not moving in on the advantage, not moving at all.
Bucky straightened, removing his hand from his side, darkly red. “What are you doing?” Bucky asked, before raising his swords once more. “Fight me.”
“Bucky—”
“Fight me,” Bucky hissed, slamming his swords forward. Steve barely had time to raise his shield. He couldn’t stop staring at the thick blood leaking from Bucky’s ribs.
“No—”
“Steve—”
“No.”
Steve stepped back, feet almost at the ring’s edge. He dropped his shield, his sword to the sand. He held his arms out, palms towards Bucky, and said, “I won’t fight you, Bucky. Not ever again.”
So Bucky took the win, and the crowds jeered at Steve, and the Emperor held his thumb outstretched, unamused by the champion’s surrender.
“You won’t fight me,” Bucky spat, “but you’ll make me kill you instead?”
[Cut into the right hand side is an edited shot of the movie Gladiator; two gladiators rush towards each other to battle, with the crowds filling the stands. Much of the image is in shadow, with streaks of sunlight pouring down from the left side.]
TENTH IMAGE:
x.
The sand was hot beneath Bucky’s feet; no lazy afternoon shadows in the centre of the amphitheatre. In front of him, Steve knelt facing away, his head tipped low to bare the spot at the top of his spine, all smooth skin tanned and unblemished.
The crowds roared around them and Bucky lifted his sword, pressing the tip at the base of Steve’s neck.
Steve flinched and said, just barely loud enough for Bucky to hear: “Perhaps I’ll go to Elysium… I hear there are few places better to be than the underworld, these days.”
But Bucky knew Steve would not go to Elysium. He was a warrior, but he was not dying righteously, not for fighting well. He was dying for surrendering, for caring about Bucky more than himself.
And Bucky—well he cared for Steve more than himself, too. They were the same that way. They always had been.
So Bucky stepped back, lowering his sword in his hand. He looked up to the Emperor, shadowed in his private box, and shook his head.
“I won’t kill you, Steve,” he said, and Steve looked around in surprise, like it was really all that out of character. He held out a hand and pulled Steve to his feet, ignoring the roaring of the crowd, the anger that came from mercy.
“They’ll come for us,” Steve said, eyes wary. “They’ll kill us both.”
With one hand, Bucky cupped Steve’s cheek, thumb against his cheekbone, and with the other, he lifted the sword and twisted it. “Let them try,” he said. “But we have plans to travel the world. We’ve got no time for dying, Steve.”
And in the summer heat, they ran for the Gate of Life.

my sweet romantic teenage nights
juke | high school + diner au | title: scenes from an italian restaurant // billy joel
Magenta’s Palace was an artefact from the glorious American Dream; a fluorescent gem wrapped in that 60s architecture and old-fashioned uniforms. It was also the hang-out spot of most LF Arts students, right in the heart of Los Feliz and on most kids’ path.
Luke used to roll his eyes at the place, thinking it was corny and certainly not the place a punk-rocker like him would go… until he tasted their gnarly waffles. And burgers. And milkshakes. His love for good food trumped his desire for street cred and ended up like the rest of his peers: a regular at MP.
Alex and Reggie never had qualms with it. The former was rather happy Luke got over himself and Reggie was simply pleased to spend more time with his friends. It became tradition to eat there every Friday after school. Sometimes they stayed until the early hours of the night talking, sometimes it was to fuel up before a gig.
Settling in their booth (theirs - Luke has made sure to carve the underside of the table with their names), Luke sighed contently. “Boys, this gig is gonna be fire.”
“I still don’t know how you convinced the guys at Raven’s Nest,” Alex mused, glancing around for a waitress in a candycane-coloured uniform.
Reggie nodded gravely. “Yeah, they’re scary.”
“Used my charm,” he smirked. “Dialled it up like I always do.”
The blonde snorted. “Sure.”
Luke’s face crashed. “Fine. I used our fake’s when he didn’t believe we were eighteen.”
His friends grinned, Alex snapping his fingers. “There it is.”
The chipper Nora glided towards them, slaloming between tables with her notebook. Alex’ remark didn’t bother him, crossing his arms with a shrug. “Does it matter? I got us in. They’re gonna love us. Nay! They’re gonna eat this set up!”
“You better be right - hi, Nora - cause it’s a bar for bikers. Real ass bikers,” Alex replied, shooting Nora a smile.
“Hello, boys,” she greeted, her signature red hair tied in a messy bun. Reg used to have a crush on her when they first visited, until they realised she was twenty-three and in a committed relationship with a guy from USC studying medicine. Yeah, he had no shot. Luke had to console him by buying five chocolate shakes and blasting Elvis Presley in the car.
Despite this, Reggie still had a soft spot for her, smiling kindly at the waitress. “Our usual, please.”
The notebook got tucked in her apron with a bright nod. “Coming right up!”
As Nora swiftly returned behind the glossy bartop, parlaying the order to the kitchen, the entrance opened. The bell above chimed, three girls appearing beneath it.
Oh, shit.
When Luke enrolled into LF Arts as a green fourteen year old, he had planned to only focus on music and nothing else. He’d blaze through his classes and become the best in music and then, with his obsessive nature at a peak, would launch the band into the next stratosphere. That was the plan. Music, music, music. (And food from Magenta’s.)
Fourteen year old Luke wasn’t aware girls like Julie Molina existed though. That changed on the first day. She came to the front of the class, blew everyone away with a Taylor Swift cover and shot a toothy smile when she finished - like it was nothing. Like she didn’t have the voice of the century. (Like she wouldn’t mess with Luke’s plans of becoming the best, damn it!) Though his initial reaction was envy, he quickly realised it was rather a disgruntled crush than actual dismay.
She was cute. Still cute. After every summer break, he expected her to be less pretty so that his nerves could calm down for once. Nope. Julie Molina was pretty as hell.
He has never seen her here on Friday’s. Why now? Why now when they were mentally preparing themselves for a gig that could get them their asses kicked if they didn’t perform well? Luke needed to focus! Not think about where she’d sit and what she’d talk about and what she was going to eat.
His eyes tracked as Julie, Flynn and Kayla were in busy conversation, barely aware of their surroundings. Her head rolled back in a laugh at something Flynn said, eyes shut in glee. Luke flushed red, averting his gaze to the scratched up table. His friends were snickering, Alex muttering a ‘Jesus…’ under his breath.
Luke snapped his arm. “Stop being a dick.”
“Why don’t you just ask her out?”, Reggie pondered, absentmindedly making origami with the thin napkins.
“I think he needs to talk to her first to do that,” Alex teased before Luke could respond, earning another glare.
It wasn’t like he and Julie never spoke. They were seniors, they had multiple classes together and spent many hours cooped in the same music classroom. He was even part of her group project in junior year! They’ve talked! But it never lead to anything, his lingering stares falling for her oblivious profile, her never once looking back at him.
The connection Luke always craved hasn’t been there, though he always felt like they could have that. Musical spirits were alike, right? At least his crush wasn’t as hopeless as Reggie’s on Nora.
The girls chose a booth right next to theirs, Julie in his direct line of sight. Alex was buzzing in his seat from stifled laughter, visibly trying to not turn his head and address them. The guitarist felt like dying, not even the steaming plates of burgers set in front of them enough to lift his mood.
Luke leaned forward, voice a hiss. “I can talk to her. I just… haven’t felt the need to.”
Reggie patted his shoulder sympathetically. “It’s okay, buddy. You don’t have to lie to us.”
Frustration began simmering his skin, the scowl deepening. He wasn’t lying! Maybe a little! He’s been waiting for the right time to approach her, say and do the right thing to sweep her off her feet like the fucking rockstar he was. Had he been preparing his lines since he was fourteen? Also maybe. They were being revised.
Alex often told him he shouldn’t put Julie on a pedestal. That she was just a girl. It made him wonder if he was the only one that first day of high school that felt it. That awestruck whooping in his chest from seeing her curls dance around her almond eyes and hear how each lyric was laced with a passionate smile. Even at fourteen was he aware of how special that was. Julie wasn’t just a girl. She was the coolest girl he’s ever met and he didn’t even know her that well. He couldn’t imagine actually becoming friends with her, uncovering all facets of her personality and not get overwhelmed by her Julie-ness.
Huh. His crush went deeper than he thought. Yikes.
At the end of the day, Luke could admit that he was simply a teenage boy nervous to talk to a girl. ‘Nervous’ was like a curse word to him though, that admission a secret he’d take with him to the grave.
“Eh,” Alex quipped, egging him on. “Luke’s a terrible liar. He doesn’t have to tell us for us to know it’s true.”
His hands slammed down on the table, words spouting from his lips. “Girls! Can we get your napkin dispenser?!”
Fucking fantastic, Luke.
All three perked up in surprise, Flynn twisting in her booth to curl her nose and tilt her head. “Why?”
“It’s empty,” he bluffed.
Kayla craned her neck and instantly caught Reggie’s handiwork scattered across the table. “No, it’s not.”
Julie sat next to her, blinking in confusion. “Why do you need our napkins?”
Her smooth voice directed right at him caused a thrill up his spine, a grin involuntarily tugging on his lips. “Cause Reggie needs them for his crafts.” Playing along, the bassist lifted a janky frog with a wink. “I’m very dedicated.”
She matched Luke’s smile, amused. It was the most interaction he has had with her in months, the utter euphoria of it all bursting at the seams. Propelled by her smile, he slid out the booth and into Alex’ side, throwing his arms over the seat right next to Flynn’s head. The girl remained deeply unimpressed by him, gaze flicking past his physique. Damn. If he ever wanted to get anywhere with Julie, he had to get in Flynn’s good grazes. Kayla seemed chill though.
“What’s with the frown, Felicity?”, he joked.
Kayla giggled at the mention of Flynn’s actual name, the girl in question rolling her eyes. “All I’m wondering is why you have to bother us about napkins, Lukas.”
“Flynn,” Julie shook her head with an exasperated grin, “maybe wait for your strawberry shake? I think you’re being hangry.”
Her friend loosened up, sinking back in her seat with a playful pout and mumbling a resigned ‘fine.’
Luke took that as his sign to continue. His gaze fell back on Julie, hoping he wouldn’t sound too eager. “You guys come here a lot? I haven’t seen you here on Friday’s.”
“Who’re you asking?”, Julie asked, looking between her and Kayla. Oh, man. Small talk really wasn’t his forte. He couldn’t charm himself out of this one with music jargon or fake IDs.
His smile turned stressed, flailing his hand around. “Uh, all of you.”
“Sure,” Flynn snorted.
Alex slapped a hand on his mouth at her retort, almost in pain of not laughing his ass off. The prize of ‘Worst Friends Ever’ went to Luke’s - for fuck’s sake, couldn’t the drummer at least try and help him out?!
“Just wanted to celebrate Kayla’s good mark on her new song,” Julie continued, wilfully ignoring the other’s behaviour. Slinging an arm around her friend, she shot her a bright smile. “Her bridge was amazing, right?”
All three boys nodded fervently as Kayla ducked her head bashfully, murmuring a ‘thank you’ and then relieved from all the attention when Nora walked up to them. Luke’s body didn’t twist to sit normally again, too invested in finally speaking to them, finally having that contact, that he didn’t even care if he seemed like a weirdo. Julie and him! Conversing!
“Speaking of music,” he casually uttered when Nora was off again. His signature smirk crawled on his lips. “We’re playing a gig tonight.”
This peaked Flynn’s interest. Perhaps the prospect of food made her more amicable. “Where?”
“Raven’s Nest,” Reggie proudly proclaimed.
Kayla frowned, worried. “Isn’t that the bar with all the bikes outside?”
“Thank you!”, Alex exclaimed with a sigh. “It’s insane!”
“It’s not,” Luke bit back. If Sunset Curve wanted to make it big, they had to play big! Gigs like these would get them on the stages they dreamed of. Soon, it was goodbye, Raven’s Nest and hello, The Orpheum! “Real Californians go there to hear real fucking music.”
To his surprise, Julie hummed in agreement. “My dad says it used to be where the subculture kids hung out before MP got cool.”
“Yes!” His grin was huge now, overflowing with joy. This was enough adrenaline to get him through three gigs at once! His finger pressed into the cracked leather. “Exactly! And we’re gonna slay it. You should come watch!”
The latter blurted out without wanting to, his eyes growing wide in panic as Reggie and Alex stilled in their seats and Flynn peered up at him with laser-focus. Shit. Was he telling on himself? Did she pierce through the charisma that this was just a poor attempt at flirting? God, he really should’ve prepared his speech for impulsive moments like these.
Luke still needed to endure some growing pains before he got good at flirting.
Julie chuckled, a hint of red appearing on her cheekbones. It enthralled him. Was she embarrassed or flattered? “Uh,” she bit her lip, “I don’t know if I can get in. Don’t you have to be eighteen?”
He raised his brow. “C’mon, you don’t have a fake?” At those words, Alex dropped his head on the table with a thud. Luke had enough of his own shit too. ‘Mortified’ didn’t even come close to how he felt about his blabbering mouth.
Levelling his challenged look, however, he realised he wasn’t lost quite yet. Julie’s eyes glittered with mischief. “I do, actually.”
Breath caught in his throat. Yup. Coolest fucking girl in the universe. Julie Molina had a killer voice and a fake ID and probably did a whole lot of other dope stuff he hadn’t found out yet.
“Julie,” Flynn but in. “It’s a biker bar.”
“Where our classmates are playing,” she argued. “I can always try.”
“You’ll die.”
“I think I’ll be fine. Like Luke said-” No. She could not say his name and expect him to keep his cool. His fingers gripped the conjoined couch tighter. “-everyone’s there for the music.”
A careful smile slowly grew on Kayla. “We can tell your dad you’re with us.”
Flynn gaped at her. “We-?! I- okay.” Lifting her hands in surrender, she added: “Fine, we’ll tell Ray you’re at the movies with us.”
Wait, was Julie turning down a movie night with her friends to see him play? Did that mean something? Has he been so focused on trying to find or create a ‘vibe’ that he forgot to actually look for signs of her own? Damn. Now he really couldn’t screw this set up. Sunset Curve was gonna play until their hands bled, hopefully impressing her just a little bit.
It was settled then. After both groups had eaten, Julie separated from hers and joined them on their trek to Raven’s Nest. She was mostly talking to Reggie behind Alex and Luke, animatedly recounting a story about Carlos nearly crashing his drone in her keyboard. Jitters began to tingle his skin, that building excitement right before a gig mixing with Julie’s presence. It felt like one of his dreams materialised out of thin air.
How many times has he dreamt about catching her eye in the crowd as he crooned love songs he never dared to write? Granted, those dreams were centered in a hazier setting, Raven’s Nest quite unromantic opposed to that, but he would take what he got.
(And after, they’d worm their way through the masses of people, meeting halfway, and she’d sling her arms around his neck and he’d pull her into a kiss and it’d be electric. She’d kiss like she sang. It was a recurring dream that left him in a good mood for hours.)
Without much hesitance, the bouncer let Julie in. Luke, unable to keep his giddiness at bay, squeezed her shoulder as a dazzling beam was glued to his cheeks. Julie got in! Julie was going to see him play!
Raven’s Nest was expectedly filled with bearded, burly men. It reeked of beer and strong liquor, raucous chatter spilling from ever corner. They all probably looked like babies in comparison to these dudes, but he supposed his unfaltering confidence made up for it. Luke would get his boys (and Julie) through this. The stage was already prepared for them, amps and mics set up, Alex’ drums waiting in Reggie’s van behind the establishment.
“I’ve seen you play before, you know,” Julie mumbled beside him.
His heart soared without trying, its rate going a mile a minute as his jaw fell slack. All his nerves intensified till a blush crept on his cheeks. “You- you have?”
Her curious eyes flitted from the people to him, sheepish. “Yeah. At Ecliptica. You guys were good.”
A clammy hand raked the ends of his hair. Holy fucking shit. “You sounded like you never heard us before.”
“I didn’t want to seem like a fangirl, or something.” A secretive smile formed on her lips as she leaned into his side. “You know how school is. Everyone trying to be the best, but then act super casual about it?” Her eyes sparked in the yellow lighting, too close for him to think straight. “I didn’t want it to inflate you guys’ egos.”
Luke sputtered out a disbelieving laugh. “You’re doing it right now, Julie.”
“Then you better kill it,” she teased, nodding at Alex and Reggie hauling the drums onstage from the back door. “I think that’s your cue.”
There were two things he thought of right as he ascended the stage.
One, Julie was fat better at this whole back and forth than he was.
Two, he had to direct at least one song to her from their thirty minute set. Just one. Just so that his feelings might come across. Where words ended, music bled from his soul instead.
And so, the band exploded into what they knew best: burning the fucking house down.
So we’re taking the long way home 'Cause I don’t wanna be wasting my time alone I wanna get lost and drive forever with you Talking 'bout nothing, yeah, whatever, baby So we’re taking the long way home tonight We're taking the long way home
The giggly teenagers ended back in the diner after the incredible gig, shouting from the adrenaline and jostling arms to get points across. Even Julie joined in, much to his delight, tucked between him and the wall as she had a heated debate with an excited Reggie - harmonies versus basslines. Lemonades filled in condensed glasses gave them sticky fingers, hers once pushing his chin away when he told a particularly dumb joke and leaving an imprint. Luke was on fucking cloud nine.
Taking the upper hand in the debate, Julie sang a bit of one of their songs (“Let's seize the day, let's run away, don't let the colours fade to grey!”) with all the tricks in the book, silencing Reggie just like that. Alex high fived Julie, the bassist admitting she won this time. Deeply relishing the sound of her singing voice, Luke barely caught what she was saying after.
“This time?”, she laughed. “There’s another time?”
“Why not?” Reggie wiggled his brows, unsubtle as hell when he shot Luke a wink. “Diner Friendship Memories Still To Be Made!”
Alex blinked. “What?”
Her eyes tracked past the boys, the smile turning more timid. It settled on Luke, the boy unable and unwilling to look away. He wanted this night to never end. Clasping her lemonade, she nodded firmly, as if signing Reggie’s silly Friendship Contract.
“Yeah… why not.”
Magenta’s Palace became Luke favourite place in the entire world. Every Friday, Julie joined the boys at their booth, sometimes Kayla and Flynn too. Huddled in those red leather seats with mountains of fries, they shared the first slivers of newfound friendship. Luke has always been very cautious about who he let in his circle (Sunset Curve against The World), but six people in a booth felt cosy rather than suffocating. Like it was always to be like this.
Reggie found an equally enthusiastic jazz lover in Kayla. Alex confided with Flynn that he followed her playlists on Spotify and was obsessed with her DJ skills.
Luke and Julie created their own bubble without trying to.
It was weird. Maybe Alex was right and Luke did put her on a pedestal for so long. Julie was genuinely chill and easy to talk to, probably turned off by him before cause he had been acting like a blubbering idiot. Simply being himself was, surprisingly, more than enough for her. It lit a fire inside of him. Snarky banter about music that challenged him to keep up, overt flirting from him that kept her blushing, sudden ideas about lyrics that threw either for a loop. He wouldn’t admit it at first, but she made him a better songwriter.
Who knew his best songs would be found on stained paper napkins?
One Friday night, long past midnight, the group stood outside as they bid each other a good weekend. Bathed in the pink glow of the LED lights, Luke felt it in his gut. He had to tell her. These past weeks his feelings had only grown tenfold, this incessant buzz rippling every atom of his body whenever she was close. Whenever she smiled, talked, sang. Stealing his beanie, eating his fries, sharing AirPods. Luke loved it all.
It was a lot more than a simple crush.
After Julie hugged Alex, Luke grabbed her into a tight hug. She instantly responded, wrapping her arms around his waist and burrowing herself in his red hoodie. His infatuated smile was hidden by her curls, so fucking happy he’d been impulsive enough to ask for a dispenser that day.
“Hey, Julie,” he whispered.
She looked up, eyes alight with an emotion that left his shivering. “Yeah?”
“Uh…” A smile trembled on his lips, unsure whether he wanted to drown in the pretty brown of her irises or continue talking. Now or never. “You wanna get breakfast tomorrow? With me?”
He didn’t have to live in the fear for long, a smile stretching across her cheeks as she shyly nodded. It was the first time he’d ever seen her this flustered, their hold on each other securing with quiet glee. Had he not been so mesmerised, the awestruck Luke would run a mile from the adrenaline rush.
“Yeah,” she grinned, nose scrunched. “Sounds fun.”
They found themselves in the same spot the next day, the taste of syrupy pancakes melting with his as he kissed her on the parking lot of Magenta’s Palace. Julie’s lips curled into a smile and Luke figured there was no better feeling in the world then that.
(Yeah, he could get used to this.)
Saturday’s mornings had never been sweeter.

He doesn’t feel his heart pang when you say you want him to drive you to his apartment, not yours. He doesn’t completely turn beet red when he sees you change into his clothes. But, as much as he denies it, Bakugo realizes he loves you when you cry to him drunkenly , saying you wished you had a lover as sweet as him
This fic is for the @bnhabookclub Bingo Event! Here’s my masterlist to see all my work for this event! Also this was actually inspired by @shoutogepi HC of Bakugo and Kirishima taking care of their drunk s/o! I honestly loved this headcannons so much, and they really inspired me to write a more angsty sort of spin on it. Here’s a link to her post (I also explicitly asked her if it was alright to take inspiration from her headcannons, just in case!)
Bingo Slot: Realized Feelings
Tumblr media
Bakugo stepped his foot deeper into the gas, the engine in his car roaring as it zoomed through the dark streets.
Damn you and your shitty decisions.
He had been woken up in the dead of the night to his phone ringing annoyingly against his bedside table. Your caller ID of “Cute Shithead” was shining brightly against his face, his finger immediately taking the call.
He had to admit, he was a little annoyed for you calling him so damn early in the morning, but hearing your voice immediately melted any irritation. By the way your words slurred together, you sounded completely wasted. That alone could turn him into a worried frenzy, but the tone of your voice sent ice down his spine.
You sounded so lonely, so defeated, as if you had lost all hope and were giving up.
He rammed his foot again into the gas, following the directions to the club you said you were at as closely as possible over the roar of his engine.
He was just being a decent friend and helping you out, he told himself. There was no other reason why he was helping you...it wasn’t because his heart practically dropped at the sound of your voice, or how he felt his chest tighten when you said “Please come get me Katsuki”
Or that you had called him, not anybody else, to come and get you. It was all platonic-he had to keep telling himself that.
He hastily pulled into the parking lot, his car swerving into a spot a little too haphazardly. He yanked the keys from the vehicle, closing the inky black door with a thud as he looked at the building in front of him.
A bright, Neon green sign lit up the roof, a line of club goers filtering through as they waited for the bouncer to allow them in. It was pretty late in the night-2 am to be exact-so more people were stumbling out of the club than actually going on.
Bakugo quickly began to walk over to the establishment, his body weaving through drunken couples clambering to their cars or taxis. He was searching everywhere, helplessly trying to find your face in every person he saw.
Where the hell were you?
Bakugo turned to his side, looking at the asphalt that lead into the club. There were parking spots right there, all empty, probably for Ubers and Lyfts to come pick up people who had ordered them. THere were a few people sitting on the curb, waiting for their rides as they sat on their phone or blabbered drunkenly to their friends.
But then he spotted a familiar body, their shoulders slump down in exhaustion, their eyes downcast in defeat. He quickly made his way over, knowing exactly who that body belonged to.
“Shit y/n, the hell are you doing here by yourself-“
He quickly bent down, looking at you square in the face.
You gave him a weak smile, your eyes so full of relief and sadness he felt his heart ping from your expression.
He had to admit- you looked like a wreck. Your once meticulously curled hair was frizzy and in shambles from dancing, your makeup splotchy in places and black coating under your eyes.
HIs calloused hands wrapped around your waist, his other arm gently pulling your free hand around his neck for support. He felt like he was moving a ragdoll-you complied with each of his movements, your body resting against his as if you depended on him
“Well, I did have some f-friends… with me…” your murmured out, your voice thick from sleep deprivation and alcohol.
“And the hell are they?”
“-they left a few hours ago…” you slurred,” I said I’d stay… a little longer”
Bakugo began to walk you to his car, the walk more like a stumble as he tried to guide you on your wobbling feet. He felt his insides heat up with an intense flame of rage, licking up and consuming his insides. How the hell could your ‘friends’ just leave you? THis was nothing like you, to be so impulsive that you became incredibly vulnerable in public. Something was seriously wrong with you, something you had to be going through.
“Shitty friends for leaving you like this.” he replied gruffly, making no attempt to hide his obvious anger. “Are you okay? Did anybody try and do anything funny to you?”
He was worried, he had to admit that to himself- you were clearly in a wrong headspace in a pretty sketchy place. Anything could go wrong, and he wanted to make sure that nothing happened.
Not because the idea of you dancing with another guy makes him want to punch a wall.
Or trying to lure you to his apartment made him want to yell and break that imaginary mans jaw, in order to keep you safe in his arms.
Nope-strictly platonic.
You scoffed at the blonde's words, a harsh chuckle spilling out of your chapped lips. “Of course Bakugo, everybody here wants to grope the girl who looks like she’s been crying all day-
“I’m fine-really”
Somehow, even with your slurring words and clouded mind, these words were the first sober syllables you had uttered.
But- if you were fine, you wouldnt be going to a club this late at night. You would have been smart enough to at least stay alert, not completely wasted, and you definitely wouldn't be by yourself. Your werent fine, and Bakugo knew it, because you werent being you.
He was impulsive, irrational, and went with his gut feeling, even if it was a stupid or dangerous idea. You on the other hand, were like his better half: calm yet forceful, a commanding tide to soothe the volcanic eruptions of his anger.
But now you were different, a choppy whirlpool of emotions that were locked away deep inside you, the effects changing your once calm and rational demeanor into something saddened and desperate.
Bakugo gave you a long look, his red eyes slanted as he tried to read what was on your mind.
He stopped your two’s trudging, finally being in front of his car.
A protest was dying to spill from his lips, to retort and fight back the obvious lie you had just uttered. But something in your tired voice made him falter, making him feel more empathy for you than frustration
“Okay then…” he sighed, “let’s get you home,”
  ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* ✧・゚
It was unnervingly quiet.
Bakugo had the music off, worried that the thumping bass would aggravate any possible headache you had as you curled up in the seat beside him, your high heeled shoes long forgotten on the floor of his car.
He drove much more smoothly than before, his eyes desperately trying to focus on the road. He wasn't used to this kind of you-he missed your smile, and the way you would joke and laugh with him. Of course he would act like he didn't like it, giving you snarky comments and off handed insults that would only push you even more to joke with him.
Now he felt like he was next to a shell of you- you were there, right next to him, but- You weren't there. Your smile, your spirit, your light- it was being blocked by some darkness inside you.
“Are-are you mad at me Katsuki?”
You finally spoke to him, making Bakuo’s eyes wide and his heart stop in his chest.
Why did you sound so timid?
Bakugo continues to glue his eyes on the road, his voice gruff yet uncertain.
“The hell I’d be mad at you for?”
“I don’t know…” you replied softly, “you just sounded-mad”
Shit- now he felt guilty, making you feel worse than you probably already did. It was just that he was worried, and sometimes his emotions came out quicker than his words. He just couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that you out of all people could act like this.
“Well, I’m not mad at you-I’m just-“ he sighed, trying to find the words.
“- the hell were you out that late? The club scene isn’t your thing”
You shifted uncomfortably in the seat next to him, cuddling yourself in closer to your body.
“I thought I told you-” you answered sadly, ‘I got dumped”
Bakugo blinked a couple times, the shock vibrating throughout his body. He knew you had a boyfriend, apparently Shindo Yo, the damn pretty boy of another hero agency.  You were his closest friend after all, so he dealt with the news as best he could, but Bakugo has never liked the guy. He always chalked it up to him being protective over you as your friend, but the way he used to feel so angry and so frustrated whenever he saw you hold hands or hug made him want to scream. A small amount of happiness filled up his chest by hearing you say you were single, instantly  making him feel guilty as he saw how distraught you were.
“The hell-“ he gulped out quickly, “what for?”
“Dont know..” you sighed, your face contorted in a grimace, “he-he said he needed to focus on his career-and that-that I was going to stop him from achieving his goals-”
Bakugo instantly felt anger erupt in his chest, his hands becoming clammy against the leather steering wheel.
“Wait-that dickwad, Shindo Yo, right? The damn extra won't amount to nothing, the hell he-”
He was rambling, the spiteful words spewing from his lips. He just couldn’t understand why your piece of shit of a boyfriend would dump someone as amazingly kind and caring as you, and go as far to say such awful words. It made him incredibly furious, and all he wanted to do was confront your now ex and give him a piece of his mind for causing you to act this way.
He was surprised though to hear your voice interject him, your tone stern yet pleading.
“Bakugo, can we not talk about it? Please?”
He wanted to kick himself for being so inconsiderate, an embarrassed blush creeping into his cheeks.
“Shit-I-okay,yeah”
The car ride continued in silence, Bakugo staring at the road in conflict, you cuddling yourself into a small ball on the leather seat.
It continued for a few minutes, until Bakugo broke the silence by clearing his throat.
“Want me to drop you off at your place?” He asked gruffly, looking at you slightly from the side.
He noticed you shift, turning to look at him with large, pleading eyes.
“Can-can we go to your place instead?” you squeaked out, almost as if worried by his response. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound mean earlier….I just- always feel so safe and warm when I go to your apartment, Katsuki”
Bakugo felt his heart quicken in his chest-you called him “Katsuki”, his name. Something in you saying that made him feel hot from flusteredness, but then you said you felt safe with him...he had never been more thankful for the darkness of night, because he knew his face was completely red.
He gulped, trying to build up the wall around his emotions you were trying to knock down. With each word or truth that spilled from your sleepy, drunken mouth, he found it harder to keep his feelings at bay. He took a deep breath, his clammy hands readjusting on the steering wheel.
You two were just friends.
He didn’t like you like that and you-you probably didn’t either.
He needed to be Bakugo, your best friend, your rock in hard times, not Bakugou, the blushing mess next to you that was concerned with his own feelings.
He clicked the turn signal on his car to the right, taking the route back to his home instead of yours as he sighed.
“-Fine.”
Bakugo pulled into the parking lot of his apartment building, the bumpy street roads now turning smooth as he fit his car through the metal gate and settled into a parking spot near his apartment.
He turned the key of the car, killing the roaring engine as he stepped out of the car, the closing door as a soft thud as he commanded you to “Stay inside”.
Your sluggish head instantly perked at the statement, unable to understand what he had meant by that. But your body felt too tired, mentally and physically, and too weak to even protest. You stayed there, cuddled into the seat as Bakugo opened the door of the passenger seat, his arms outstretched as they tucked themselves under your body.
“Wait what are you-“ you asked sluggish, your eyes barely open as you wrapped your digits around his arms.
“I’m picking you up”
HIs tone was calm and forceful, as if this was a completely normal occurrence between the two of you- which it wasn't.
You instantly blushed at the prospect, excuses already forming on the tip of your tongue.
“You don’t have to, I can-“
“I could barely walk you to car and that was in flat ground,” he retorted back, I’m not gonna walk you up stairs-”
“Just let me do this”
He stated a little more softly, his voice gruff and low as he picked you up off the seat as if you weighed nothing to him. Your hands instantly latched onto his neck finding comfort by burying your head into the crook of his neck.
Shit-why you had to go and be so cute?
His grip around your body tightened, making sure you felt secure as he walked you up the plight of steps to his apartment.
Something about this felt so surreal- your warm body against his, his hands wrapping your thighs, the way your hair felt against his cheek...these were all sensations that left his heart pounding.
All of this seemed to frustrate him as much as it brought him joy-he shouldn't feel any of these tingling sensations around you. He shouldn't feel weightless and giddy, or terrified he'd do the wrong thing around you all the time. It bothered him to know end, and made him feel so frustrated.
But the most frustrating part was the fact you were oblivious- that you had this secret power over him and you didn't even know it.
He finally stepped foot in his apartment, setting you down gently as he ruffled through his pockets for his keys. His hand was still wrapped around your waist, giving you some stability as he opened the door with a slow creak, ushering you inside.
You stepped inside, feeling somewhat out of place- you had been here countless times before: parties, get togethers, the meet up place before you would hang out with the Bakusquad….so why did it feel so strange?
The room felt more intimate in a way-you had never been here without someone else, usually Kirishima.
And youd been here at night, but never this late, and the fact you had asked to sleep over- well, everything just felt so new and raw.
Thankfully Bakugo broke through your rapid thoughts, his vermillion eyes looking down at you with slight worry.
“You good? No needing to throw up or anything?” he asked gruffly.
God he felt so close- you could practically feel his heat radiating into your body still, making your cold digits beg for his touch.
Your cheeks warmed at the thoughts, a small “Mm-mm” and a shake of your head the only thing you could muster to do.
He led you over to his room, passing the small kitchen and bathroom as he did.
“Then you need new clothes- get you out of that clubbing crap”
Your mouth instantly formed into a pout, your eyes looking up at your best friend.
“It's not crap-its pretty”you corrected him, your tone playfully hurt.
“More like tight,” he replied snarkily, “ how do you even move in that thing?’’
You were about to quickly retort back that he should wear the dress and find out, but then a sudden image of Bakugo wearing your skin tight dress at a club made you instantly double over in giggles.
Bakugo gave you a questionable look, his red eyes almost judging your drunken, laughing form.
“I just keep it down with my hands silly,” you said in between giggles, your body flopping onto the plush comforter of his bed. Now you felt a little more at ease, as if the courage of alcohol had kicked into your system yet again.
Bakugo shook his head, his blonde locks swaying at the motion as he quietly said ‘Giggly ass drunk” under his breath. He began to rustle through his closet, trying his best not to stare at your form laying across his bed in such a body accentuating dress.
You hadnt seemed to notice Bakugo's rhetoric or dilemma, a soft smile gracing your lips stiill. Your propped your body up on your elbows, your tousled hair pooling against your skin.
“so what amazing little number are you gonna put me in now?”
“-This,”
You felt cloth instantly hit you square in the face, as if Bakugo had thrown it over his shoulder-most likely on purpose.
Usually you would attack the asshole for doing something like that, but you just felt too tired to even throw an insult back. Your lips pouted out once again, a small whine escaping your throat as you ripped the shirt from your face.
Bakugo grinned slightly at you ,finding your expression adorable as well as funny.  He watched you inspect the shirt, the fabric as dark as your dress.
“You would think interning with Best Jeanist would have left some fashion sense in you,” you spewed out, your face clearly distraught by the shirt he had given you.
He rolled his eyes, his grin now turning into a grimace.
Was drunk you really that picky over a shirt?
“That was 5 fucking years ago, and I only interned with him cause he was one of the best,” he tried to defend himself, feeling his cheeks grown warm from your drunken disapproval. But his fiery personality kicked in, his tongue beginning to stutter over his words. “- just throw the goddamn shirt on before I let you sleep in that shit you call a dress”
“Or I could sleep in my underwear, there's other alternatives,”
your words flew out of your mouth faster than you could stop them, a triumphant grin on your face as you saw how beet red Bakugo became.
A giggle escaped from your lips, the sound ringing softly against his ears.
“Dont worry Katsuki, Ill wear the clothes,” you gave him a soft smile, cuddling the clothing to your chest.
He blinked a few times, trying to get his heart to settle back into a steady rhythm.
This wasn't real.
You didn't make him nervous.
You were just his best friend- you being in his room, in a pretty dress, making flirty remarks didn't affect him.
You were drunk-you weren't yourself right now- so why did he feel so hopeful? And for what?
He quickly spun on his heel, turning around before you could catch the glowing in his cheeks.
“Whatever-just call me if you need help” he threw over his shoulder, his hands closing his bedroom food with a loud slam.
Bakugo sat himself on the couch in his living room, his hands resting on his face, his elbow connected to his legs.
The hell was going on with him?
As he was brooding over his conflicted emotions, he heard the door of his room click open, and it seemed all his feeble attempts to slow down his heart went out the window.
There you were, clad in his black tshirt, the fabric pooling around your thighs and making your arms look tiny in the flowing fabric. You must have been wearing the shorts worn from under your dress, but still- he got a full view of your beautifully plush thighs, making heat rise to his cheeks.
Strange sensations filled his stomach, that tingling butterfly sensations filling his stomach-
The hell was wrong with him?
“For your clothes being so bland, they are pretty comfy…” you smiled up at him, his heart quickening at the small gesture.
You walked your way over the couch, resting your body opposite him, giving ample space between the two of you as you sighed in content.
“I could go to sleep right now”
Bakugo snorted, his arms wrapping against his chest as the heat continued to rise in his cheeks.
“The hell your not-”
You instantly pushed yourself up, cocking your head at Bakugou in confusion.
He had to admit it to himself- your looked-cute-, sitting there, your legs crossed with his shirt wrapped around your frame, your eyes wide and hair a mess.
He could get used to seeing you like this-
But shit he couldn't-didnt-think like that. You were his friend, nothing more.
“What do ya mean?” you asked “You were complaining about me two minutes ago, wouldn't you want me to go to sleep?”
He gave a small chuckle, his eyes looking down at the floor.
“Sure but-I'm not letting you go to sleep with all that shit on your face-”
Your hands instantly went to touch your face, your digit scrubbing against the skin.
“Huh?-Oh”
You looked down, and there on your hand was your foundation, a tiny bit too dark as it had mingled with your bronzer and highlighter, black running against your skin like tire streaks on a road.
How did you not even feel that was on your face? How drunk were you?
The thought of you being so intoxicated you forgot you had makeup on seemed like the funniest thing ever, giggles dribbling out of your lips.
“Oh my god, I forgot!” you laughed, chuckles wracking through your body.
Bakugo simply shook his head, unable to contain a smirk from gracing his lips. He got up slowly, walking over to your side of the couch to offer you his hand.
“Alright cmon-you giggly ass drunk,” he smirked, his lungs tightening as you gave him a smile of your own, your smaller hand slowly taking hold in his larger one.
You leaned into his body, already accustomed to him being your support- he would at least admit it right now...you were cute
He walked you over to his bathroom, his digit flicking on the light switch.
It was a little small, with enough room to hold two people inside. He gently pressed you against the wood of the cabinet, his hands grabbing your waist as he hoisted you on to the counter.
Any other day you would be embarrassed by this sudden closeness with your best friend but something about this felt bitter sweet. It had been so long it seemed like since someone had truly cared for you, being there by your side and making sure you were okay. It felt comforting to have Bakugou near you, but you knew this wouldnt last. You were drunk and feeling broken-is was just his obligation as your friend to get you through the night. Once you sobered up, itd be back to the way things were-bitterly lonely.
As you muddled in your emotions, your feet dangling against the cabinets, Bakugo was rummaging through in the cabinet next to you, emerging with a bottle of makeup remover.
You cocked your head at the bottle, the liquid inside an artificial yet soothing blue.
Why did he have that?
Bakugo stared down at the bottle in his hand, his red eyes quickly glancing at the writing on the side and setting it down on the counter, now rummaging for a cloth.
“This shit should work-”
Your hand grabbed the bottle, now inspecting it in curiosity.
“When did you get this?”
“Remember last time you came over,” he asked over his shoulder,” when the power went out in your apartment and you said you had to do your makeup?”
You simply nodded your head-you remembered that day. You had planned to go and watch a movie with your boyfriend-ex, and the screening was at exactly 12 am since it was premiering. You had wanted to look at least a little decent, but fate had gone against you and destroyed that plan halfway into putting on your  makeup. So you had of coursed called Bakugo, who grumpily obliged to let you use his apartment.
Bakugo’s hands gently took the bottle from yours, his hot skin brushing against yours as he applied the liquid to the cloth. His frame fit snugly in between your legs, your inner thighs brushing against the fabric of his sweatpants.
 “Well, You left it-”
He simply stated, everything in his being trying to keep his tone leveled as he began to wipe your skin clean of the events from the night.
You had never seen Bakugo be so gentle- he was taking his time, focusing on one small area and then moving onto the next. His strokes were even and light as air, not digging into your skin or forceful in any way.
“And- and you kept it?” you gulped out, your eyes searching his own vermillion ones.
Bakugo was scared, terrified even-he didnt want to look you in your eyes.
Would he do something he regretted if he did?
He was trying to control himself, to fight everything in him all night to not let you catch on to him, to not let you or himself see his true emotions...he was getting too tired to fight, and he was scared that he’d let something slip that he didnt even know about himself yet.
“Well yeah, I wasn't just going to throw it away,” he answered,” I figured you'd come and get it,”
He paused, his hand faltering against your skin for the smallest second. Maybe-it wouldn't hurt to say something...you were drunk after all, you wouldn't remember most of tonight probably….
“-also,” he gulped out, his heart beating in his chest, “ Its nice to have reminder of you here too,”
Your eyes instantly widened, the wind knocked out of your chest, constricting almost in pain.
Why did that make you feel so-so fluttery inside?
And why did it hurt so much?
Maybe because it almost sounded like-Bakugou may care for you? More than just a friendly way?
No-it couldn't….he was your best friend….but god, it felt so good to be cared for, to actually feel wanted-
And of course had to be by someone you knew you never had a chance with.
Your shoulders began to shake, realizing how much you must have screwed up-you lost your boyfriend, was humiliated by him, and then humiliated your own self by losing control.
Bakugo was the only one you had truly could count on-he was the one person you called, and he had shown up to get you. He had tried his best to keep you comfortable, went out of his way to keep you safe, his best to keep you happy…
How long had it been since someone had been this caring to you?
Your shoulders began to shake, the weight of everything crashing down on you, tears spilling across your cheeks like rain droplets outside a car window.
How did everything turn out so wrong?
Bakugo instantly noticed your change, his body instantly panicked and worried.
“Shit-y/n, you okay? Whats wrong?” he asked, his tone desperate as he set the cloth down and wrapped his hands around your forearms, securing you as wave after wave of tears racked your body.
He wrapped you into a slow hug, his warm palms placed firmly against your back as you instantly wrapped your arms around his neck.
He felt so warm and safe, your noise buried into the soothingly sweet smell that was him.
“Katsuki I-I-Im sorry, I didnt mean to-” you blubbered out, trying your best to apologize over your heightened emotions.
Bakugo had no idea what to do- was this just something you did when drunk? He had no idea why you had started crying, and he hoped it wasn't something he did- but telling by how in pain you looked and how quickly you welcomed his embrace, this was something he didnt do and couldn't fix-at least not quickly.
He continued to hold you tightly, his hands beginning to become clammy against your back.
“Dont say sorry-Your fine, just- tell me whats wrong,”
He felt your hands ball his shirt in your fists, your chin digging deeper into his skin.
“I wish I could find a guy as great as you,”
Shit.
Bakugo’s face turned beet red, his arms stiffening at your words- when he asked what was wrong, he didnt mean something like that.
But the truth comes out when you're drunk, and Bakugo fully believed in this saying…
Did that mean-you liked him?
He couldn't deny it now- it was too hard and everything was against him at this point.
Just the small prospect of being your lover made Bakugo’s heart quicken, the little sentence you just uttered destroying the wall he had kept to protect himself from the truth.
He liked you.
Alot actually.
He scoffed, trying  his best to remain calm as he cradled you in his arms.
“Im not as great as you think I am,”
He felt you cuddle yourself even deeper into his neck, your hair tickling his jawline.
You seemed to be calming down as Bakugo had had a mental crisis….your sobs were now sniffles, and you werent breathing as hard. But you still were cuddled deep into his body, as if using him to block yourself from the outside world.
“No you are, you really are…”you sighed quietly, “ even if you are an ass sometimes, you are very kind and sweet-
“I just wish I could date someone like you,”
Shit.
Shit.
Shit.
How could he even say anything after that?
How was even able to respond?
He wouldn't-Bakugo decided to hold you quietly, as if you never said anything...but those words were echoing inside his head.
God- you could date him in a heartbeat. But, reality kicked into Bakugou- you were drunk, and just got dumped. You were just starved of touch and affection from that.
There was no way sober you would have said something so revealing as this- you saw him as his best friend, nothing more and nothing less of that. You wouldn't jeopardize your relationship by saying something that could mean the end of your friendship.
Bakugo felt the tightness of your body loosen, your breathing now regular, something so different from a few minutes ago.
“Y/n?” he asked quietly, almost timidly as he waited for a response.
Nothing.
Bakugo sighed, a small, tired smile playing on his lips
“You fell asleep huh?”
Bakugo playfully rolled his eyes as your quiet demeanor spoke the truth for him.
His hands found themselves placed against your back, wrapping against your body once again so that your legs were around his waist, his arm supporting you as he carried you back to his room.
Maybe in the morning you would remember this...maybe not. He was conflicted- a part of him hope you didn't, so your relationship could resume as normal, but- something in him hoped you remembered. And hoped you wanted to talk more about it- because if you felt the same way and meant it, he wouldn't mind to see if you two could be more than just friends.
He pecked a look at your sleeping form, your smushed face against his shoulder making his heart fill with warmth.
“Shit-if only you knew...I would date you-

Guess who finally has the confidence to share the drabble they made based on the jumbled up Soul Eater divergence au they made up.
Me!
I do!
So this is a Soul Eater Canon Divergence drabble I did based on an au I randomly conjured up around Maka and Soul doing some “evil” shit.
Please note of something like this exists I had no idea of it!
Trigger/Content Warning:
This includes, Emotional Manipulation, Aggression, Chaining up/Imprisonment depicted (probably/assumably) incorrectly
There was no proof-reading either— Have f u n—
Here we go!
The cell floor hurt. Her legs hurt, again. The dripping water grated her nerves. The lack of things to pull her attention made her unfocused.
But she couldn't complain. She put herself there. She chose to do bad and for that long? It's a miracle Shinigami showed her mercy, even if she had been the one to outsmart his rules and get off without dying.
Was death that bad though? Compared to living in this dirty cell with her meals brought to her and someone coming in to make sure she exercised each day, death seemed like a nice release.
She looked up as the slider at the top of the door in front of her moved. Green eyes peered at her with pity before the door opened. She saw her chance immediately.
Were they dumb enough to send him of all people?
“Maka...”
Apparently so.
She began to struggle back as he approached, crocodile tears welling up.
“Go away! Go away!”
“Maka there’s no need fo-”
“You might as well have gagged me too! I never want to see you again! Go away!”
He kneeled in front of her, still a ways away for her comfort. Still ever the ‘caring’ father.
“You watched them... You let them lock me up...”
“Maka there was nothing I-”
No words or proper syllables came out, just a guttural scream in his face as the tears poured. He kept calm though, his expression was still soft. But she knew he’d crack. She just needed to hurt him more. Just a tad bit more.
“You watched them do it... You helped! You..! You..! You threw me away! You never lo-”
“Maka you know I love you-”
“LIAR!”
His composition began to crumble and internally she smirked. So close. So, so, so close.
“Maka, please...”
“No! You! Mama! Sid! All of you! You all loved it when I went off the deep end huh?! You were all waiting for it! You were so thrilled to get the waste of talent out the academ-”
“MAKA!”
Silence befell them again. Maka’s tears streamed down her cheek. Spirit watched her as tears welled in his eyes. Her head tilted down in shame as Spirit placed down the food he had brought. His hands lifted to cup soft cheeks as his thumbs brushed away the excess tears.
“Maka. I couldn't do anything. You... You did something unspeakable. You... It’s a miracle you weaseled your way out of being on his list... I know it doesn't seem like it but really, I do lo-”
“My arms hurt... Papa my arms hurt...”
In seconds he was leaning over, peppering soft kisses on her cheeks and atop her tears. She hiccuped and sobbed as he did, beginning to struggle in the restraints.
“Papa, Papa my arms hurt. Please, please they hurt a lot. Papa-”
Soon he was shushing her, trying to soothe her to the best of his ability without crossing lines. But she kept crying and struggling and she knew he was right at the edge of his rope. Soon he’d give in. But for now, she accepted the fake affections.
Mama, Sid, Stein, Him, even Shinigami-sama. She hadn’t been lying in her accusations. She knew they were true. She knew they all saw her as weak. She was nothing more than a burden for her team. They must have celebrated when she was gone. Kid, Star, those two must have been elated. She knew it. Deep down she could hear their voices so clearly, each hiding behind those fake words of praise. They either pitied her for being so unbelievably weak or wished she’d simply die in battle so they never had to see her again. All of them did, all of them still do.
Except him. Lord Death bless him, he never thought of her as weak. He saw her as a partner, an equal, his friend, his most prized and treasured person.
And soon she’ll find him again.
“I know it hurts. I know Maka... But soon you’ll get council with Lord Death or I. Then we can discuss the proper punishment. You just... Just need to stop trying to escape...”
She whined and he sighed.
“Just behave..? Please? It hurts. I know it hurts. But if you behave, your council won’t keep getting pushed back..!”
No response came from her. She could almost hear how he fell off the ledge.
“Maka? Maka? Sweetie? Please. Talk to me... I’m sorry..”
And just like that, she wrapped him around her little finger. Just a few more words and she’d be free from these chains.
“Papa...” she watched his face light up as she gently nuzzled against his warm palm, “Papa can you take them off? Can you take them off? The arm and leg cuffs. Please..?”
“Maka you-”
“Daddy please..?”
Like that, he was uncuffing her.
People are so easy with the right words.
Her arms fell to her sides and she shifted her legs. She smiled shakily, looking up at him and sniffling. Seconds after she was engulfed in a hug. Slowly, she hugged back, her arms snaking around his neck and returning the hug. Her head rested on his shoulder as she blabbered her apologies.
Not yet.
She pushed him away gently, trying to stand after the long hours of sitting with little movement. Shakily, she got to her feet, stretching and holding his hands for support. Giggles erupted from her and she looked up at him with a beaming smile.
A bit more.
He let her walk around him, fixing her balance all on her own. Soon enough she was hugging him again, burying her face in his chest. A solemn smile curled on his face when she looked up. He closed his eyes and hugged her against him.
Now.
She pulled away, Spirit still relaxed with their moment. She grabbed his wrists firmly, a quiet hum and escaping him in confusion before she pulled and kneed him in the crotch. With a yelp, he fell forward, the girl taking the opportunity to grab him in an unrelenting chokehold.
It took only a mere 50 seconds to knock him down, what with all his struggling and confusion. Plus, he wouldn’t dare hurt his ‘pride and joy’ of a daughter. She existed in his heart as his little ray of sunshine behind the clouds.
People are so easy with the right tricks.
His body was dropped to the ground with a decisive hum. She grabbed his ID card, the keys for her restraints, two pieces of gum to chew on, and snuck off, hoping to be able to use it in her endeavors.
She crept her way towards the door, peeking out to look through the hallways. Once deducting that the coast was clear she let herself out, silently finding her way to his cell. She popped a piece gum in her mouth as she did, much too happy to enjoy the treat.
They thought putting him far away would affect her soul perception? She could find him in a sea of doppelganger easier than an addict can find their next buzz. Soul was almost like her drug anyway.
After a few minutes of careful walking and dodging other faculty members, she found his cell. After looking through the slider to double-check that it indeed was him, she began to fiddle with the lock.
A few quiet curses slipped before she got it. Why was this whole place so easy?! It’ll like Shinigami-sama made it to cater for children!
The door opened and she hummed.
“Eat shit.”
“That’s no way to talk to me.”
His eyes shot up, widening with understandable confusion. Soon he couldn't deny who stood before him. Just as he realized it wasn’t some sick joke, she lunged.
She hugged him close, a hiss of pain the only response before he nuzzled his face against her hair. She took a deep breath in, enjoying the soft embrace.
When they pulled apart, reluctantly, of course, she began to uncuff him as well.
Soon enough, he was wrapping his arms around her and she was burying her face into his chest once more. Slender pianist fingers carded through blonde strands. Small and calloused hands gripped onto his sides like a lifeline.
“It’s only been like 18 days.”
“Three weeks.”
He nodded at her stern tone. She kept track of each day. Surely she wanted to escape right? Surely she wanted to get out right? Surely she wasn’t going to simply stay here till time ran out right?
“I missed you… Your hugs are warm.”
He chuckled, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“Hmm? Then I’ll have to give you more.”
A simple nod, “yes please.”
They both giggled, sighing and laying against each other before Maka stood, trying to get him to stand as well.
Footsteps came before she could.
The door slammed open and she yelped, falling against him instinctively. His arms wrapped around her, holding her to his chest protectively.
“Maka Albarn!”
Sid.
“Wait no!”
Papa?
“She’s good I swear!”
Sod stood in the doorway, managing a menacing glare at the two. While Soul glared back just as angrily, Maka held him like a vice. Actual tears welled up this time. She was so close to some sort of escape! Yet she ruined it with her sentimentality for him. She should have just took off the restraints and had him transform. It wouldn’t have taken so long and she’d probably cover more ground with a big fuckin scythe opposed to just sitting there like a dumbass.
“Sid stop it! She’s not all bad I swear!”
“She knocked you out!”
“We made a deal!”
Sid begrudgingly dropped his glare and stepped back. Spirit walked ahead of him, stopping in front of Maka.
“He-”
“I-I’m sorry. Don’t lock me away again. Please don't lock me away again.”
He sighed, crouching down in front of her. Vague memories of five-year-old her looking up at her cool Papa came to mind before she squashed them.
“I can’t say we won’t. But-”
“You hate me! You really hate me! You want to throw me away into a cell so you never have to see me again!”
“Maka no! I-”
“You’re gonna let him lock me away again! You’re gonna let him lock Soul away again! I bet you told Kid and BlackStar we would be fine! You lied to them too huh?! I-”
“Let him speak!” roared through the cell, abruptly shutting up Maka’s cries and Spirit’s sputters. After Sid’s demand, Spirit fixed his tie and opened his arms for her.
“We can sort this out, Maka. I know you wouldn't have done something like that. You’re your mother’s daughter. You grew up in Death City. You understand why Shibusen is so important. Please, let me help you.”
The room was quiet save for the dripping of water that wasn’t too far off due to a faulty pipe.
Maka glanced at Soul who only motioned with his head for her to move. She tentatively squeezed Soul’s hand before moving away to wrap her arms around Spirit’s neck again. He closed his arms around her torso, hugging her close and standing up straight. He turned to face Sid, smiling and humming as she latched to him. A smug look was thrown at the zombie and Sid sighed.
Spirit’s pained yelp pulled Sod from his relaxation. Maka jumped out his hands as Spirit crumbled. Soul, fixing himself back into position as Maka landed, shot a glare at Sid. Maka darted for the door, hoping to squeeze past him in his momentary shock but she should have known getting past an assassin would be no easy task on her own.
Her arms were grabbed and she was pinned before she could get ahold of what was happening. She squirmed and kicked, screeching about him putting too much pressure and hurting her. He retorted that the only reason she hurt was her own resistance. It didn't stop completely but she calmed.
Soul stood, about to attack Sid when Maka shot him a glare from against the wall. His body stiffened and he bit back the angered insult he was about to throw.
“Spirit this is the fifth time! If she’s so good, why is she so annoying! I wasn't the type of guy to give up but really! Don’t you think this is eno-”
With a hiss, Spirit got to his feet. But he fell over just as quickly. He shook his head, “She’s just-”
“Rebelling? Angry? A teenager? Misguided? Trust me I've heard them all. I've said them all. Spirit I'm taking her to the tighter cells. She already had the same treatment Medusa had but clearly-”
Her scream came out broken and shaken. Granted, that's exactly what she wanted, “Papa!”
Sid pitied the poor man. His daughter could manipulate him easier than Medusa did Crona and he couldn't see it. Love is blind and that doesn't stop when it’s familial.
Spirit ripped his pant leg, tying it around his wound. Soon he began to protest, began to sputter out some retort to make it so Maka wouldn’t be hurt. But both knew how this ended. All four knew despite two struggling against it and two keeping their tongues tied.
“A-Arachne had that moral manipulator, right? Sh-she must have done something to Maka to make her act like this..! Maka... Maka would never!”
Soul rolled his eyes in the background and Sid sighed.
“Spirit. You can’t prove that. Besides. Even if she did, Maka still did those things...”
Spirit sighed dejectedly, sitting down and nodded.
“Ain’t she your daughter? You’re really gonna abandon her like that. You are one messed up geezer-“
“Mr. Eater.”
The shark-toothed weapon looked up with disdain upon hearing his name but his words ceased.
“You’re to be dealt with ne-“
“Soul didn’t do anything!”
And like that, the room was silent for a moment. At least, till she began sputtering just like her father had earlier.
“I-I used the machine on him! H-he didn’t want to follow along with my plans! S-so I manipulated his morals to-“
Soul stepped forward, only stopped by Spirit’s outstretched hand. Maka kept going, looking at her father with some sort of appreciation even if it was small.
“I manipulated his morals to align with mine! A-along with his loyalty and trust! I did it! Please don’t-“
“The hell is wrong with you? Stop lying!”
She twisted and struggled to try and lock eyes with Sid. To an extent she was successful but now the cold stone pressed against her cheek. She whined, her eyes pleading as she continued.
“S-see! With the manipulation his loyalty only amplified! I did everything! I did it all of my own accord and dragged him along!”
“Maka shut up!”
“I take responsibility as the Meister!”
And yet again, silence fell upon them. Spirit hung his head and Sid nodded. Soul gawked. He was the first to break the silence.
“Y-you don’t believe her right..?! I-I’d follow her to the ends of the earth to keep her safe! I did that before! Come on,” he stepped forward, grabbing at Spirit’s suit sleeve, tugging it harshly, “You gotta believe me. If she’s getting put in some sort of solitary confinement then-”
Sid began to lead her out. Spirit kept his head low. Soul tried running after him but Spirit’s hand wrapped around his wrist was firm.
The last thing she heard before being taken away was Soul’s screams. They weren't painful. At least, not in the absolute physical sense. But they were pained. Both knew this was the end of their partnership. Neither accepted it easily. Yet everyone seemed to think it was for the best.

Dear diary
he loves me
1 week and 2 hours
Percy is having a very uninteresting day. Which he supposes should make him happy since those are far and few between in his life. But something about the weather—windy and bone chilling, despite the shining sun— is putting him on edge. He's never wanted to go home and wrap himself in a blanket and call his boyfriend more. He can imagine it now, that soothing voice rumbling about something completely mundane. Jason won't even demand a reply of him. He'll just be content to talk softly about anything and listen to Percy's hum of agreement every so often.
He walks into his psych lecture, groaning internally when he remembers its a double, and for the first time since he was twelve years old he wishes anything would spurt from the depths of Tartarus, so he can fight it. The day has in fact been that unexciting.
Instead he finds a seat somewhere in the middle and puts his head down to the cool wood of the table. The wood is scratched in pen and engravings that mark students long since gone into the world. His finger traces fading words absent-mindedly, bumping across "She loves him she loves him not," scraped deep into the table, a dying daisy hanging over it.
The story he imagines comes to him in a flash.
He pulls out his diary, the black leather-bound book falling in front of him with a thud. Scrambling for a pen, he clicks once twice, three times.
Dear Diary,
They start at an arcade. Beating each other at whack-a-mole. Giving each other hard-won prizes. They share an ice-cream. Mint choc chip and vanilla. They have a story to tell at the wedding they keep dreaming up. They go to high school. They see each other in the halls and smile like sunshine. They go on summer break and pick daisies, pluck at them until there's nothing but stem. They start college. And the flowers they'd picked that one summer evening bleed into the wooden table where the memory of them would live forever. They pass each other across the fields. They don't say hello. They never said goodbye.
he loves me not
1 week, and 48 minutes.
Percy's hands are shaking slightly by the time he puts the pen down. The lecture hall is almost full by now, and the shuffling of last minute feet slide across his mind. He stuffs the diary back in his bag and twirls the pen around his finger. The class is antsy with the need to feel the weekend on their skin. Friday afternoon lectures always make people climb to the highest distractions. A group is chatting animatedly two rows above. A girl with wings etched into her skin sits one seat down and diagonal from him, frowning at the highlights on her page; her leg taps to the beat of "I want to go". On the other side there are people slurping coffee and gobbling down fries as they attempt to polish off the last of their lunch. Some in the front rows have their textbooks open, a hesitantly bored look on their faces. A guy in the very first row perks up every-time the door swings open; he is waiting for the lecturer; he doesn't want to get out of this he wants to get through it.
Percy drops his head back in his arms and takes deep stale breaths. He just has to survive 45 minutes. That's only three fifteen minutes, or four and a half ten minutes, or nine five minutes. He just has to get through five minutes nine times. He can do that. He got through Tartarus once and that's actually hell.
The lecture room door swings and when it clicks shut it feels more final. He doesn't bother to look up as the class slowly quiets to something resembling a humming beehive.
"Good afternoon," The professor begins. He hears the door open, and knows someone is trying to be careful as they slip in late. They sit down at the end of his row. He doesn't see them but he knows they're there. He can feel their presence like gentle heat and curiosity. He's too tired to look.
"Today were focusing on the executive functions and how their damage can affect our psychology."
Percy drifts in and out of focus as the professor drones on, mentioning memory and attention and dementia and recall. Words float around in his head. He can't catch any of them. He should probably try. He doesn't.
"Can anyone tell me why we can sometimes encode things but then not recall them?"
Hands go up all over the room. He knows the answer but since so many others do, it doesn't matter if he puts his hand up.
"Yes, in the green shirt, with the blonde hair." The professor calls.
"It may be because the retrieval methods we're trying to use may not work for that type of information or—"
Percy freezes in time. He goes back to the dinosaurs. He goes forward to the end. He becomes the entirety of the present itself.
Slowly, every so slowly he turns his head. And there, his row partner several seats away, in an emerald green shirt and golden hair swept into something resembling angelic, is Jason Grace.
He sputters, chokes on his disbelief, the shock tightens around his lungs.
The blonde finishes his answer and then turns to look directly at Percy. And everything in that lecture hall becomes mist.
There is no-one around them, there is nothing. There is only grey and flashes of lightning and the distant sound of an ocean.
"Hello baby," Jason whispers, floating towards him, setting himself down on his table.
"You're here." This can't be real. This is Hera playing tricks. This is his mind finally too exhausted to keep the disillusion at bay. This is not real.
And hand, warm and gentle, cups Percy's cheek. And he knows nothing has ever been more real in his life.
"You're here." He whispers, he can't say it enough. "Why are you here? You aren’t supposed to be here till next week."
Jason presses their foreheads together, somewhere around them lightning strikes. It mirrors in those blue eyes. "You were getting bad again."
He always knows. He always knows. Three thousand miles apart and he knows.
"I wasn't." Percy shakes his head, hands finding indents on strong thighs. "I was just missing you."
"Your eyes are dark, like undergrowth, like dying seaweed." Those slim fingers cup his jaw, tilting his head from side to side. "Where are the oceans that live there?“
"The nightmares," He sighs, "They're bad."
"How long?" The question is simple but it makes Percy's heart screech to a stop.
"Four weeks."
"Oh baby," Jason's eyes shatter, "Why didn't you tell me?"
"There's nothing we can do." His shoulders are shaking, he doesn't quite know if he's crying, he wouldn't be surprised. "But you're here and right now that's all that matters."
"Let's leave for a little while." Jason whispers into his skin.
"Where?"
"You and your mom still have that cabin in Montauk?"
He nods, breathing in the scent of fresh rain and jasmine soap. The scent of his boyfriend. The scent of safety.
"Lets go there." The blonde is saying. "We'll come back the day before your birthday so you can spend it with the family, but let's escape before that."
“Okay," He doesn't even hesitate.
"Really, you'll go?" Jason squeezes his shoulder, excitement shining in his eyes.
"Anywhere in the world as long as its with you." He kisses his boyfriend. Soft and sweet and thank you spread across their tongues.
"Want to finish this lecture?" The blonde mumbles against his mouth.
Percy snorts, already shoving stationery into his bag. "Let's have an adventure, Jason Grace."
"Let's."
They escape through the haze, horses already forming from storms itself, and become everything the world has to offer.
And when the mist in the lecture room clears there's a single row empty and a new engraving in the wooden table.
Our love is not daisies it is entire gardens.
Dear diary,
he loves me
Now.

Yamaguchi sat on his bed, legs crossed and school work scattered around him in an arc. Textbooks, loose papers, and pens were sprawled across his covers. He had been attempting to study for English for hours, but his mind was racing, prohibiting him from even attempting his school work.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the front door unlocking. “Tadashi?” the melodic voice of his mother called.
“Upstairs.” he shouted back. He could hear his mother shuffling, most likely removing her shoes and coat. Footsteps began to approach the stairs, followed by the creaking of their old wooden staircase. His mother popped her head through the doorway.
“How’re you feeling?”
Tadashi shrugged in response. “The same.” She nodded in acknowledgement. He watched as she made her way into his room, pushing aside scattered papers so she could sit next to him.
She ran her fingers through his hair as she spoke, “So I was able to get a doctor’s appointment-” he immediately opened his mouth in protest but she raised her hand in a silencing gesture, “and you’re going to go.” Yamaguchi slightly deflated. Going to the doctor meant accepting something was wrong, and he was still hoping that he’d wake up after months of feeling ill and finally be okay again. A part of him didn’t want to know what was wrong out of fear, but the other part was desperate to have an opportunity to fix his ailing body.
“Tadashi?” his mother’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts. He looked over to her and could see the expression that had become all too familiar to him: worry.
“Okay.” he acknowledged his mother’s earlier statement. She sighed, stood up, and made her way to the doorway where she paused. “I love you, Tadashi.”
“Love you too mom.”
He flopped backwards into his pillows, suddenly incredibly tired. He felt horrible that he had to visit the doctor knowing that bills existed and volleyball equipment was an expense already beginning to burden his mother. He eyed his sports bag in the corner of his room. It felt like it was mocking him, laughing at the money they spent on it and its contents only to have the sport ripped right out of his hands. The urge to cover the bag began to overwhelm him, so he removed his sweatshirt and tossed it across his room, it landing atop the bag. He breathed a sigh of relief when it was no longer clearly visible.
He turned his head to face the ceiling. There, above him, were the old glow-in-the-dark stars he had forced Tsukishima to help him put up when they were younger. In an attempt to steady his mind, he dug into the back of his brain for the constellations they had placed. He raised his arm and traced the shapes of Ursa Major and Minor with his finger, dragging it along until he found Leo, and Lynx, and then he couldn't remember the rest of the names.
“You’re pointing at Draco.” Yamaguchi snapped his head to the side and of course, there leaning against his doorway was Tsukishima, “or so I’m assuming. And your mom said I could come up. Before you ask I haven’t been standing here long.” The blonde righted himself and made his way to Yamaguchi’s bed. He moved Yamaguchi’s papers to the floor, and laid down next to the other boy. “Over there is Gemini,” he explained, pointing as he spoke. “And by that is…” Tsukishima’s voice trailed off in Yamaguchi’s head. No longer was he staring at the ceiling, but instead at his best friend’s features. His eyes grazed up the sharpness of his jawline, he looked to his eyes and traced the slope of his nose. Sometimes he forgot just how beautiful Kei was.
Yamaguchi could remember back when they were children, lying in the grass and looking through Kei’s telescope. He could practically hear the sound of laughter as fireflies buzzed around them. Kei always compared them to stars you could hold in your hand.
He thought back to when they first put the stars up in his room. He had begged his mother to buy him the stick-on stars and promptly invited Tsukishima to help him. His friend had showed up with a reference book and a grin, and together they got to work planning out the constellations that would fit on Yamaguchi’s ceiling. Kei was determined to have it be accurate, leading him to check, double check, and recheck again.
“Are you even listening?” Tsukishima tapped the center of the other boy’s forehead, effectively pulling Tadashi out of his memories. He realized he had been staring, and with a warmth to his face he looked away.
“Sorry, Tsukki. I was just remembering when we put those up.”
“Oh, yeah. I remember. You had trouble reaching the ceiling so I had to put most of them up.”
“It’s not my fault you’re freakishly tall!” Yamaguchi laughed. He could sense Tsukishima rolling his eyes, followed by the sound of the bed creaking under the taller boy’s weight as he shifted to face Yamaguchi. Tadashi couldn’t help but flush under his friend’s gaze.
“Are you okay?” Kei’s soft words fell like feathers onto Yamaguchi’s ears. He was being quiet, as if sharing a secret.
“I don’t know,” Yamaguchi responded honestly in the same hushed tone, “I know I’m going to the doctor in the next couple of days but I’m torn. On one hand I want answers because answers means treatment, but going to the doctor means accepting something is wrong when I don’t want anything to be wrong.” Yamaguchi darted his eyes to the right, momentarily interlocking glances with the same intimacy as holding hands. He wanted to look away, afraid of his own impulsivity at this small distance, but he was so engulfed in the concept of Tsukishima that he didn’t dare look away. “I don’t want to be dramatic but what if I can’t play volleyball? I’ve also been missing some classes from getting sick so what if I fail? I guess I’m just kind of lost and confused and I want things to go back to how they were but at the same time I know it’s impossible but I’m terrified of what the future holds.” Tsukishima nodded. It was obvious he didn’t know how to respond, and he could tell Yamaguchi wasn’t expecting him to.
A song loudly began to play from behind Tsukihima’s head, and a groan from the blond quickly followed. “It’s your phone,” he said. Yamaguchi sat up and reached over Tsukishima’s body, quickly recoiling back as soon as he grabbed his phone from embarrassment of the position they were almost in. A part of him wanted to stay close and over Tsukishima, but in an effort to fight that urge he reeled back, effectively smashing his head against his wall. Tsukishima couldn’t help but snicker as Yamaguchi rubbed the back of his head. Tadashi looked down at the caller ID. ‘Suga.’
“Hey, Suga.”
“Hey, Yamaguchi!” he could hear another voice in the background but it was hard to pinpoint who’s it was, “I was just wondering how you were doing.”
“Oh. I’m fine. Tsukishima’s actually over right now so..”
“So you don’t want to talk? I got it. Well if you need anything just now the whole team is here for you. Bye!”
“Bye.” Yamaguchi hung his head and let out a sigh as soon as he heard the line drop. Tsukishima nudged him, causing him to look up. Tsukishima quirked an eyebrow, a silent question of ‘what happened’.
“Suga was just checking on me, and I get why but having everyone wanting to keep an eye on me has never felt so frustrating. It feels like everyone is handling me like glass, like if they don’t protect me I’ll shatter. I’ve just gotten sick a couple times-” Tsukishima gave Yamaguchi a look, “okay, multiple times, but I’m not dying.” Yamaguchi lowered his head again, his voice following suit. “It’s just so frustrating to know that for most of my life I’ve felt invisible, but the moment something seems to be wrong with me and I want to be invisible, suddenly all eyes are on me.” Tsukishima nodded once more in acknowledgement, although this time the brunette didn’t see it.
“You know,” Yamaguchi turned his head to face Tsukishima who unexpectedly spoke, “I rarely ever see you this frustrated.” A smirk played against his lips. Yamaguchi couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
“Shut up, Tsukki.”
“You’re stealing my line.” Yamaguchi couldn’t help but laugh again at the comment.
“What made you come over anyways?” Tadashi changed the subject.
“I saw you struggling with english earlier so I thought I’d come help.”
“Thanks, Tsukki!” Yamaguchi was delighted for his best friend and the help he offered. The shorter boy slowly made his way off his bed, making sure to climb over Kei, and eventually found himself sitting on the floor with his school books. Tsukishima soon followed. He thumbed open the book and began to explain the material, “Okay so first what you’re going to want to know is these grammar rules.”
And for a moment, Yamaguchi Tadashi felt normal again.

Feyre walked along the sidewalk leading to one of the dorm buildings of her new school, Velaris University.
Although she was focused on lugging her single suitcase behind her as one of the wheels was broken, she couldn’t help but admire the tall impressive structures that surrounded her. She could hear the trickle of the Sidra river to her right while observing the courtyard adjoining multiple dorm buildings to her left. The courtyard was large and pristine, made of stone, with an abstract silver metal statue which stood erect in the middle loosely resembling an infinity sign. The housing units were situated around it in a semicircle.
A path winded down from the courtyard and back towards the main section of campus, organized there were the various department buildings, the cafeteria, admissions, and so on. Feyre was making her way up said path after she retrieved her student key card from the main office.
She had just transferred from Courts Community College after she finally saved up enough money to afford tuition to VU.
In her senior year of high school, Feyre visited the small city in which Velaris was located, Prythian, with her school on a field trip. It was on that small excursion she fell in love with the Prythian and the university it had to offer. In particular, Feyre loved the huge art district that occupied nearly a quarter of the city.
Her family looked down upon her choice of major, art, they told her time and time again that it was impractical and her success rate in the field was microscopic. However, their comments didn’t deter her, she couldn’t imagine studying business or stem as her father suggested, it simply wasn’t for her. She wanted her life’s work to be doing what she loved even if it came with the risk of struggling financially down the road.
Feyre finally reached the tall double glass doors of the middle building. She grabbed her ID from her jacket pocket and held it up to the scanner. The device beeps three times loudly, flashing a dot of red light. Feyre tries again with the same result. She sighs, did she get a faulty card?
“Turn it around,” a feminine voice suggests from behind her.
Feyre whipped around. There stood a young woman, likely Feyre’s same age. She was breathtakingly pretty with long, bright blonde hair that stopped below her chest and eyes that were a shade darker than honey. She was fairly tall as was Feyre and her demeanor demanded respect. She seemed sure of herself and her looks and capitalized on them.
“The black bar on the back is only good for your dorm room door, to get in the main entrance you have to scan the front of your ID. I know, it’s weird, took me five minutes to figure it out yesterday,” the woman explained.
Feyre gave an appreciative smile and nodded, turning her attention back to the scanner which now responded to her with a flash of green.
“Thank you,” Feyre breathed as she opened the door and held it for the student behind her. The girl strolled through and smiled at her. “It’s no problem.”
Feyre directed her attention to the slip of paper in her hand, failing to remember where it said her room was. Room 223, Level 3. A blonde head peered over her shoulder.
“Room 223? You’re right next door to me!”
Feyre offered her a smile. “Does that mean you’ll show me the way?”
The blonde looked delighted and casually looped her arm through Feyre’s as if they’d been friends for years and led her towards the elevator. This slightly alarmed Feyre, she had never had very many friends let alone pretty girl friends, usually, they weren’t all too kind to Feyre. Despite the fact that her sisters, Nesta and Elain, were rather popular. Nesta easily took on the role of the pretty mean girl, though she wasn’t outwardly mean often. She just radiated the energy and didn’t bother with most people.
Elain, however, was friends with everybody and was sweet to all who crossed paths with her. She had almost everyone in the school wrapped around her finger, though she had no idea; from the boys who tripped over each other to open the door for her and the girls that scrambled to sit near her at lunch.
Feyre did have one redeeming quality in high school, well, redeeming person. Her high school sweetheart was Tamlin Spring, the football team’s star quarterback. He was one of the boys in the school that the girls drooled over constantly, but somehow it was Feyre who caught his eye and it was Feyre he asked to accompany him to homecoming. You’d think this high up connection would earn her some credit but no, the girls still teased her, convincing her it had all been a dare.
Feyre remembers, in a fit of rage and embarrassment, she stomped over to Tamlin’s locker after the last bell and confronted him. It was there he promised her that it was no prank, it was there he first kissed her. Feyre felt like they had clicked until her mother suddenly passed away from an undiagnosed illness, the death leaving an ugly, deep scar carved into Feyre’s and her family’s lives. Feyre’s life took a turn for the worse and with it so did the relationship she shared with Tamlin.
The gentle ding of an elevator door alerted Feyre before she found herself spiraling too deep into her thoughts.
Her leader didn’t seem to notice her brooding state as she took Feyre out and to the right, down a decently sized hall. The floor was mostly white tile with dark blue, almost purple tiles making a design down the middle; the walls were painted a light gray and littered with numerous posters. Feyre didn’t have time to read what all the papers said before the woman stopped outside a wooden door, a plate engraved with the numbers 223 to its left.
“This is your room. I’m just next door in 225.”
Feyre nodded. “Thank you.”
“No problem.” The girl smiled at her and then her face lit up in realization.
“Oh, my gods! I didn’t even introduce myself!”
Feyre let loose a small smile. “I’m Feyre,” she said at last.
To her surprise, the mysterious girl pulled her into a bone-crushing hug, “I’m Morrigan, but I really just go by Mor.” Mor then pulled back, still holding Feyre at arm’s length.
“My roommate is named Vivane by the way. We dyed her hair silver in the bathrooms last night, you can’t miss her. She’s always hanging out with her boyfriend though, so if you ever need anything don’t hesitate to come find me!” Mor offered politely.
“Thank you.” Feyre breathed out a little sigh of relief having found my dorm without too much trouble.
A girl down the hall called Mor’s name, she muttered a quick see you later and disappeared into the herd of students and luggage.
Luckily, Feyre managed to open the door without issue and hauled her suitcase inside. She felt a little silly walking here with such a small amount of stuff, most students had a cart full of their belongings.
Feyre observed the room, the same white tiled floor and light gray walls as the corridor she just exited. It wasn’t ridiculously small, but it would still be a bit of a squeeze. Nothing Feyre wasn’t used to, having shared a room with her two older sisters growing up. A few boxes and bags were already scattered about on the right side of the room. It was clear her roommate had been here and left. She dropped her black, sticker ridden suitcase on the empty bed, plopping down next to it.
Both sides of the room were identical, two tall beds held up by drawers pressed against opposing walls, two nightstands, two narrow desks situated at the ends of each bed, and one decently sized wardrobe, all made of the same light creamy wood tone. Rather flimsy-looking violet plastic chairs were also tucked into the desks.
Feyre began to unpack her clothes into the drawers holding up her bed in an attempt to distract her growing anxiety. She pulled out her bag of art supplies and dropped it on her desk. The bag held a paint set that was on its last leg, paint brushes that were horribly frayed at the ends, both drawing and colored pencils, sad leftover eraser nubs, and her worn leather bound sketchbook.
The door to her room opened up with a click revealing who could only be her roommate standing on the threshold.
She was on the short side and was relatively curvy. Her skin was a tanned brown and she had dark brunette curly hair that was tied up in a loose bun. They both stood observing each other for a second.
“I see you took advantage of the half-off sale at the uni shop too.” She spoke with a smile, gesturing to the identical, oversized VU sweatshirts they were both wearing over black leggings.
Feyre returned her smile and nodded. “I’m Feyre.”
I held out my hand which she took instantly with a squeeze, “Alis.”
Feyre felt a sense of relief in Alis’s presence. She had a gentle, calming, almost motherly aura about her. Alis invited Feyre to join her for an early dinner to get to know each other.
The girls entered into a huge room adorned with the same marble looking tiles and gray paint mixed with pillars of dark brick filling the walls where windows were absent. Two of the walls were almost completely glass letting a vast amount of natural light fill the space. Above them, three huge circular lights hung from the high ceiling. Wooden tables of various sizes and the same shade of violet accent color plastic chairs neatly filled the room. Stretching along two of the walls were a number of booths to grab food.
Feyre and Alis settled on grabbing salads from one called Sabrina’s Kitchen and snatched a table for two near one of the walls of windows. They talked about the usual, their family, where they were from, what they were studying, etc.
Feyre learned that Alis was from the town adjacent to Feyre’s own, Springlee. She used to live there with her sister, her husband, and their two boys. She only left to pursue a degree in education but missed them terribly.
Feyre gave Alis a quick rundown of her own home life, leaving out many details that came with her dysfunctional family and explained she’d transferred after two years at Courts Community, working on an art degree. Alis loved the idea of having an artist as her roommate and insisted Feyre paint pictures to decorate their dorm.
They’d long since finished their salads but continued chatting as the cafeteria began to fill up nearer to dinner time.
“Whoa, whoa. Don’t look now but the hottest group of guys just strolled in,” Alis gasped.
Feyre giggled a little and rolled her eyes, she wasn’t the type of girl to fawn after hot guys anymore with her track record. She did not trust a pretty face. Alis’s eyes were transfixed behind Feyre.
“Would you like me to grab you a napkin to clean up your drool?” Feyre poked at Alis.
Alis playfully swatted her hand away. “Just look at them!”
Feyre huffed and turned around in her seat; she didn’t even need to ask for clarification from Alis it was clear who she was referring too. In one of the lines stood a group of three guys, she could hear them laughing and talking from her seat.
She could only see two of their faces, but that was all she needed. They all had similar shades of black or very dark brown hair and tanned complexions, not to mention how fit they all were. One’s hair was shoulder length and half was pulled back in a bun, the other two had shorter hair cut in rather nondescript styles. Though, the quietest one who had his arms crossed over his chest and only said a few words or offered a small smile every now and then had some curl in locks. The last one had his back turned to Feyre but if his backside and friends were any indication she could only assume he was equally as beautiful.
Noticing Feyre’s prolonged glance, Alis spoke up, “who needs a napkin now?”
Feyre snapped back around and giggled. “Shut up!”
The sheer number of students piling into the room had it near overflowing as Alis and Feyre tore their eyes from the boys and walked back to their dorm.
They sat on their beds and talked for a while more, mostly making up ridiculous ways to find out who those boys were and how to get their attention. Feyre doodled in her sketchbook while Alis suggested they break into admissions in an attempt to get some information on them, that plan quickly fell apart as she realized they’d need to know more than their faces.
Eventually, both girls turn in for the night.

Crooked Smile Chapter 1
a/n this fic is very angsty. it’ll end happy, I promise. but you have been warned.
~This empty end was never something of your choosing. You could have won but you were much too busy losing~
Holly’s flight docked at the Toronto Pearson International Airport gate at exactly 23:37. She grabbed her bag and her carry on and followed the rest of the passengers off of the plane. Holly trudged her way to baggage claim to meet her friends and collect her luggage. Most of her belongings were being shipped from San Fransisco this week, so all she had brought with her were enough clothes to get through the week and several of her favorite books. Turning the corner, she saw her friends Lisa and Rachel waiting for her at the baggage claim. Immediately, she picked up her pace and when she was within a reasonable distance, she dropped her belongings and jogged the rest of the way, enveloping her two friends in a tight hug.
“You are not allowed to leave. Ever again,” Rachel said, squeezing Holly back.
Holly released her friends and walked back to retrieve her abandoned belongings, and the three of them sauntered over to the baggage claim area to wait for Holly’s other bag.
“I still don’t know why you came back. I would have stayed in San Francisco,” Lisa said as she pulled her jacket tighter around herself. “It’s too goddamn cold here.”
“It was great, but this is home. I missed you guys too much,” Holly replied just as she spotted her bag. Shouldering her way through bystanders, she hoisted her bag off the conveyer belt and hauled it back towards the other two women.
As the three friends began the walk to the car, Holly continued, “Don’t get me wrong, I loved every moment of my job and the opportunity it provided. But San Franciscans are weird and I missed the cold.”
“Well that’s great and all, but two years is just way too long. We need a good old fashioned girls’ night,” Rachel said.
“Yes!” Lisa exclaimed. “Ooo, there’s a new club I’ve been dying to check out!”
“We can absolutely have a girls’ night, but not tonight,” Holly said. Rachel pouted while Lisa began to whine something about how Holly ‘doesn’t really love us’.
“I’m tired,” Holly continued, “I just spent the last five hours on a plane. I’m jet-lagged. I’m going home, and I’m going right to bed.”
Rachel helped Holly load her luggage in the trunk before climbing into the driver’s seat. Holly joined her in the front passenger seat, while Lisa flopped into the back seat, still sulking and mumbling ‘Holly the buzzkill’ under her breath.
The 20 minute car ride was spent mostly in silence. Holly was trying too hard to keep her eyes open to deal with Lisa’s broodiness, and Rachel was content to let them be. Rachel pulled into the driveway of Holly’s townhouse and popped the trunk. She helped Holly bring her bags into the foyer. Setting her suitcase down, Holly sleepily turned to her friend.
“Get some rest, girl,” Rachel said, smiling at Holly, who was too exhausted to stand straight. “We’ll figure out a time to get together.”
“Thank you for picking me up,” Holly mumbled, stumbling forward to pull her friend into a brief hug.
“Any time. We’re glad you’re back.” With that, Rachel turned and left, closing the door softly behind her.
Holly threw the lock and dragged herself upstairs to her bedroom, not even bothering with her bags. She fell on top of her bed fully clothed, asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.
————
A week after Holly’s return, Lisa had finally gotten her wish: the three friends were on their way to a new club. Holly couldn’t remember the name of it at the moment, and she wasn’t overly thrilled about going out. She had wanted to stay home and read in a hot a bath, but Lisa had called her a recluse and reminded her that she had abandoned them for two whole years. So Holly had conceded and gotten dressed up. As the three of them approached the club, she remembered the other reason she wasn’t thrilled: the club was obnoxiously named Lush, which was obviously meant to convey that this was an upper class establishment. In Holly’s opinion, it was quite ironic. And judging by the group of scantily clad sorority girls in front of them, she knew exactly the kind of people who frequented this establishment, so it was no surprise Lisa had dragged them here.
Holly handed the bouncer her ID as he eyed her simple button up shirt and jeans with thinly veiled disapproval. She yanked her ID back and mumbled an insincere ‘thanks’ as he waved her through the door. Following Lisa and Rachel to the bar, she took in the crowd of people swarming it and grimaced. She’d have a hard time getting a drink tonight, what with all the bartenders drooling over the half-dressed women.
Rachel and Holly shared a look of misery. Lisa, completely oblivious, waved enthusiastically at a man by the bar and rushed over to greet him. Holly and Rachel remained where they stood, taking in their surroundings. The club had an upper level, with tables and balconies where patrons could look down on the dance floor. The main level had chairs and tables lining the walls, but most of the floor was devoted to the dance floor and DJ booth, where an overly passionate man moved rhythmically back and forth between spin tables.
Minutes later, Lisa and the man from the bar were walking back towards them, several drinks in hand. Lisa handed Rachel and Holly each a mixed drink.
“Guys, this is Ryan. He and I did our residency together,” Lisa introduced the man next to her.
Ryan smiled at the two of them as Holly took in his appearance. He was dressed in a sleek black suit, his dark hair was slicked back and beard short and precisely trimmed. Of course he was a plastic surgeon.
“My friends have a table over against the wall, if you ladies would like to sit down?” Ryan suggested, gesturing to the wall across the room.
“Sure,” Rachel said cheerfully.
Holly shot her friend a look of betrayal. Rachel laughed and bumped Holly with her hip.
“Come on, indulge your inner sorority girl,” she said as she and Holly trailed after Lisa and Ryan.
————
About an hour and a half later, Holly was working on her 6th drink. To say she was a little buzzed was an understatement. Ryan’s friends kept buying her and Rachel drinks, and she was not about to turn down the free alcohol. Rachel was sitting in the corner, being flirted with by one of Ryan’s friends. She thought he had said his name was Mike? It was thoroughly entertaining: Mike was trying very hard to get Rachel to dance with him, and Rachel was very politely shutting him down at every turn.
While Holly was distracted, one of the other men at the table made his way over to her.
“Can I get you another drink?” he asked as he set his own drink on the table, situating himself directly in front of her.
Holly looked up at him and shook her head no.
“Thank you, though,” she said.
“You sure?” He said with a toothy smile, shifting forward a little. He was wearing a grey-blue shirt with a solid black tie and black slacks. His long blonde hair was tied back in a pretentious man-bun and his beard was short and neat. “I’m Chad.”
“Holly,” she replied.
“So Holly, what do you do?”
“I’m a forensic pathologist,” Holly answered and took a sip of her drink.
“So you’re like a doctor? Very hot,” Chad drawled, running his eyes over Holly’s body and reaching for his own drink.
Holly choked on her Caesar, but Chad didn’t seem to notice.
“Uh, sure,” Holly giggled, “if you’re a necrophiliac.”
A confused look crossed Chad’s face.
Holly laughed harder. “Never mind.”
Chad shrugged off the comment and smiled at her once again.
“So, do you wanna dance or maybe get out of here?” Chad asked as he took a step closer, looking over-eager.
“Look, Chad, you seem really…” Holly struggled to find the right word, “uh, nice. But I—”
Holly’s sentence was cut short as something flashed in the corner of her eye. Holly turned to see what it was that had distracted her. As the object came into focus, Holly froze. Her breath hitched and she dropped her drink.
“Shit!” Chad yelled. “My shoes! What the fuck is your problem?”
Rachel was there in a flash, shoving Chad away from Holly. She had turned at Chad’s outburst and immediately saw who Holly was looking at.
Gail Peck was standing by the bar, drink in hand. Next to her was Traci Nash and Gail’s brother, Steve. Her hair was longer than Holly remembered, down past her shoulders. Her hair had soft curls and was pulled back behind her ear on one side. She was wearing dark jeans and a fitted, red henley.
The three of them began moving towards the tables. Towards Holly. Rachel saw the exact moment that Gail registered Holly’s presence. Gail paused, turned to Traci and Steve, who had happened upon an empty table, and spoke to them before making her way towards Holly.
Holly had finally remembered how to breathe. Abruptly standing from the chair, she took a couple steps towards Gail.
“Holly, hey,” Gail said quietly. Holly could barely hear her above the roar of the music.
Holly gulped. “Hi.”
“Hey,” Gail repeated.
“You said that already.” Holly said, smiling.
“You know, it sounded familiar,” Gail quipped. She took another step towards Holly and continued, “How is San Fransisco?”
“It’s good. Too hot for my tastes. I actually just moved back to Toronto.”
Gail’s eyes widened briefly before her stoicism returned. She nodded once.
“How have you been, Gail?” Holly asked.
“Good, I’ve been good,” Gail answered. She was about to say something else but was interrupted by the approach of another woman, who put her arm around Gail’s waist.
“Hey babe,” the woman chirped, flashing Gail with a dazzling smile.
Gail looked at her and then back at Holly. Sadness flashed briefly across her features but was quickly replaced with a hard look.
“Holly, this is my fiancée, Sarah. Sarah, this is my old friend, Holly.” Gail’s voice was soft but flat as she introduced the two.
Holly felt her heart plummet. Nausea roiled in her stomach and her mouth went dry. Blinking rapidly to keep the tears at bay, she extended her hand to the other woman. At that very moment, Rachel swooped in and grabbed Holly’s arm.
“Gail, hi! Lovely to see you. I’m so sorry, but I need to steal Holly away, it’s an emergency,” Rachel said pleasantly, taking Holly by the shoulder and physically turning her back towards Ryan’s group.
Holly turned to glance back at Gail, lifting a hand in a feeble goodbye. Gail nodded at Holly in return and led Sarah back towards Traci and Steve.
Holly stood like a stone while Rachel went about gathering their belongings and bundling Holly into her coat. It was then that Chad and Mike walked over.
“You guys are just gonna leave? The night has only just begun!” Mike exclaimed.
Chad grabbed Holly’s hand. “Come on, stay.”
Rachel moved between them.
“We’re leaving,” Rachel said flatly.
“You don’t speak for her,” Chad said, puffing out his chest.
“She’s gay, you nimrod,” Rachel sneered. With that she turned Holly toward the entrance and they walked out into the night.
————
Gail took a long drink as she watched Rachel yank Holly out of the club. Traci watched her watch Holly.
“You ok, Gail?” Traci asked a little too knowingly.
Gail swallowed hard and nodded once.
“So how do you know her?” Sarah asked innocently. The silence her question provoked was more than a little tense.
Gail cleared her throat. “Uh, we used to work together. Sort of.”
“Sort of?”
“She worked at the morgue,” Traci clarified.
“Oh, gotcha. She’s cute,” Sarah said nonchalantly and took a drink.
Traci and Steve both looked at Gail, whose cheeks were flushed bright red. For once Gail was thankful clubs were so dark.
————
Having managed to get Holly out of her clothes and into her pajamas, Rachel helped her friend into bed. Holly just let her, silent and unmoving, unless pushed.
“Did you know?” She asked at last, voice cracking.
“Did I know Gail was engaged?” Rachel clarified, tucking her in. Holly nodded. “No, I didn’t.”
Rachel sighed and sat on the edge of the bed.
“I’m so sorry, hun. I didn’t even think about running into her. But also, it’s been two years, I thought you said you were over her?”
“I thought I was,” Holly whispered, twisting the sheets between her fingers.
“Do you want me to stay with you tonight?” Rachel asked, resting a tender hand on her friend’s shoulder.
Holly nodded.
“Ok,” Rachel said. She kissed Holly’s forehead and went about changing into some of Holly’s spare pajamas. She shut off the light, crawled into bed, and held Holly as she cried herself to sleep.

____________________________________
Chapter One: Unwelcome Start
My feet are killing me and its hot and dark, I'm walking through unfamiliar woods. All I can smell is tree leaves decaying and pine. To fill you in without telling you my life story and having a pity party, I'm one of the few shifting Dire Wolves left. We are a dying breed since people and monsters were coexisting now, I'm over joyed about the mixing of the populations but as the wolves breed with humans our ability to shift is slowing leaving as the generations grow. I on the other hand wasn't liked by much of anyone. I grew up around old town human folk. Both parents had been killed by townsfolk and luckily the little who girl found me as a puppy was nice enough to bring me to her home. That little girl became my life. Her blonde hair reminded me of wheat in the fall and she smelled of old moth balls and freshly cooked bacon. Kasey was a lonely child born a bastard and then left alone when her mom left into town one day. She didn't come home that night. She had the kindest eyes. They say eyes are the window to the soul and hers was broken and glued back together so many times that you couldn't recognize her original beauty. She brought me to a little cabin back in the woods where I stayed with her and her grandmother.  I stayed out of school because at the time freaks weren't exactly normal. I learned everything through Kasey and her homework as I grew up. We played in the old field through the woods and down an old forgotten gravel road. She would always tease me about my ears but she loved my big bushy tail. Kasey was a pure soul and sometimes id have to remind her how special she was especially during the times to come. She became ill in late fall, losing her ability to walk and becoming more and more pale from the lack of sunlight. We were told she had an immune issue that couldn't be fix with the medicine we had then and magic was a cure but was also out of the question since anyone who was seen as a witch was seen as a harm to the community and burned at the stake. It wasn't that way in the big towns with lots of people coming and going bustling about, but down here in the boon dock of the forgotten swamp everyone had the same opinion. anything new and different was and and therefore had to be destroyed.
When I was around six Kasey succumb to her unfortunate circumstances in her sleep and she took her welcome with her. I think that maybe it was one of the few mercies I've ever seen god do for someone. After she died the grandmother, already being on her last years, passed not long after that. With nothing holding me to that little shack in the woods I moved on. I was never given a name and so along the way I've figured out who and what I am. Remind me to tell you that one later on, I've been walking for a few days with my satchel made from rabbit fur with old shoe laces holding it together, Kasey in her better days stayed bored in her old pink bedroom reading the same book she had on the old bookcase in the living room. Her grandmother went to the market in town most days to sell her vegetables. she would bring us home sweets and toys. For Kasey's birthday she bought her a bag of fabric rabbit fur and some thread and needles to teach her to sew hoping that would cure her boredom. A few months before she passed, she hurriedly finished off the synch bag with one of her shoelaces from her boots. That bag is the one I have with me now. My clothes and few days worth of food is in it as well. I had been shifted into my wolf form going on 48 hours now and my (F/C favorite color ) fur was now stained with mud and leaves from the nights sleep in a dug out hole. The last sign of civilization was back in my home town. it was now night time again and had seen no sign of a town any where close. It was getting dark and my joints were burning from the pain of walking. I quickly found a soft spot in the ground digging up a little hole to lay in for the night. The woods around me creaked with shifting wood and wind rustling the foliage. Harry had become the governor a while back suddenly disappeared recently in his home base in Lunaris. That's where Kasey's grandmother went for hours everyday to be a part of the market so I decided to see if there was anywhere I could stay and maybe get a job and start a life for myself. All this time I had no real name, Kasey never named me. She wanted me to be able to choose it for myself and I'm now 20 in human years. Our bodies aged in human instead of dog years another kind of pro with the watering down of the generations. I had gone through all of Kasey's family and school friends, even people she heard the name of by passing by in church, I'd heard all the names and thought about them and said them all out loud the see how they role off the tongue and I finally settled on (Y/N) tonight.
I had fallen asleep at some point and shifted back into human form curling around my bag to protect it from the outside. Suddenly the ground around me started to shake and the foliage covering the entrance to the den started to shake loose and fall in. At this point I'm wide awake and have my back to the wall and head in a snarl towards the entrance not knowing why or what had shaken the ground so harshly. I smell a fowl smell that reeks of something I've never smelled before. It began to burn my nose like alcohol or whatever grandma had in the wash rooms for spring cleaning. I heard twigs breaking and a long groan that howled with the wind. My heart was racing not knowing what to expect to come through the entrance and that's when I saw the light from the moon blocked by a large shadow. I braced for a fight when suddenly it let out a yelp of pain as I see two or three other shadows chase it to the right of the hole. Lots of yelling from men and women can be heard along with lots of new smells. All of them had hints of sweat and fear but some of them were odd. One was carried in on a breath of lavender and honey and the other of burnt wood like a fire place. One also smelled like chocolate and for a split second I smelled the familiar canine sent, Another wolf or maybe a half breed Lykan. I laid there and listened as the group seemed to quickly dominate whatever that creature was and if there's a group of hunters then there has to be a town. I wait for the noise to die out before I stick my head out of the hole to check my area. I look at the position of the moon and start to get a better idea of how long I was asleep. I think it must have been at least 3 in the morning. I grabbed my bag and pulled myself out of the hole, shaking off loose dirt and changing myself back into that big furry wolf I've become used to and walk towards where I heard the commotion to catch the scent of where they had gone. The creature they fought was dead on the ground covered in its black oozing blood. It looked like a genetic mutation of some kind gone very wrong and the smell almost could knock you out, if your a dog that is. I heard a snap of a twig in the distance and that's when I caught the scent of a dying summer, decaying flowers and dying memories.
I see a blue glow coming from an object a few feet in front of me hidden in the darkness of the trees, whatever it was it made it very clear that I was unwelcome and that I was seen as a threat. I bent neck down feeling the hair along my spine start to stand on end as I snarled my teeth in the direction of the ominous blue glow. Suddenly the tense feeling in the air dropped, you could feel the tension melt away and in that second the strange creature pushes forward into the moonlight. A man with golden eyes and a mechanical arm moves forward looking with his hands raised. "My names Finnegan and I know you wont hurt me because your not just any wolf am I right?" The sudden question brushes me as weird and out of place but regardless it only makes me all the more persistent that he not come any closer. He stops in his tracks and sits in the tall grass he had been previously standing in. We sat there like that for what seems like forever and he seemed to feel talkative because he asked question after question. I looked around to think of what direction I wanted to go in order to get away from here .
"You know it would be easier to go to Lunaris." he said picking at something under his nails. I look at him tilting my head, can he hear my thoughts? I didn't think humans could do such things but he didn't look like a human. Not with the fangs like that and those pointed ears. "No I'm not human I'm a vampire, I live in Lunaris with my friends. I actually have a Lykan friend as well so you wont be alone." I bent my ears back in annoyance, tired of the vamp imposing on my thoughts. I decided I would speak with him but not in this form. As a Lykan I could still stay able to protect myself and be able to speak to this other freak of nature in front of me. In order to do so I'd have to get away from this vampire long enough to cover myself. Almost instantly the vamp got up causing me to jump. "There's a graveyard a little ways from here, you can shift and change in the maintenance shed. As I'm sure you heard earlier there are some odd creatures in these woods so ill walk you to town myself. Then I can take you to Ezra and have him give you a once over." he began to walk and turned around about five feet away to ask if I was going to follow, I decide that this town might be a start to a weird series of events. We made our way through the woods to a small path of cleared trees and some sand, we followed that to the graveyard behind a large church like building and that's when I saw the small shed. "I'll stand behind the shed towards the woods I'm sure nobody is awake so you shouldn't have to worry about townsfolk." I shifted back into my Lykan form and hurry into the shed. My (hair length) (H/Color) hair fell over my face as I shoved myself into my tight jeans and put my long sleeve white shirt on. my ears still sat on the top of my head and my tail is swishing back and forth in anticipation of how this town was going to accept a new comer and a freak at that. I threw on the hoodie I had found hanging on a tree on my way out of my old town, probably left by one of the boys in the old town. I smoothed my fur down and walked out of the shed with my bag in my hands, I peaked my head around the corner and caught the golden eyes of the man called Finnegan as he's leaned against the shack with his arms crossed.
I walk up to him with my arm wrapped around my bag and offered him the other. "My names (y/n), sorry about the weird introduction but I really just have no clue where I am or where I'm going." he grinned and studied me before opening up and talking again. "You cleanup really well don't you (y/n)." I simply lowered my head as a response and shrugged my shoulders. " It would suck to have to stay as wolf all the time because I'm just to ugly to look at as a Lykan." he laughs flashing his fangs and approaching me and taking my hand pulling me closer to him to where we were inches apart. "Ugly is one thing you aren't, if your this pretty as a Lykan then I cant wait to see you in human form" he then snuck his arm around my waist turning me around as he began to walk to the town. "How did you know I could do that?" I stopped him and I could see his grin form as he turned around to meet my eyes. "I've been alive a long time (y/n).  when the old man who sired me was alive he'd tell us stories of the dire wolves that lived in the forest in the mountains. He would tell us stories of how they had almost repopulated in a town not far from here, completely unannounced to the world growing among the town folk." he looked away suddenly his essence changed from one of wisdom and confidence to one of remorse and sadness. He began to walk once again motioning for me to follow. "That is until the townsfolk caught wind  of such rumors. He banded together the higher ups and went through exposing half the town to be," he grimaces as if saying the name leaves a sour taste in his mouth, "werewolves as the humans put it."  We had just made it through a small alley leading too a large stone road. This is the first time I've heard the real story aloud of what happened to my parents that day. Suddenly I  didn't feel much like talking anymore and the vampire noticed this as we made it to the closed up and dark market side of town. Large tents and shacks were on both sides of the road, I'm sure it looks much nicer when its open and bustling with people. "I'll have to show it to you." he says suddenly again answering my thoughts as if id said them aloud. "You know Finn I love your interest in me but I think its kind of of rude to read others thoughts right?" His eyes suddenly dart away and clears his throat, "Not if the person has particularly loud thoughts but I do see what you mean. Nasty habit it is, been aiming to fix that." We both laugh for a bit and then he heads for a door on the right side of the road raising his metal arm to touch the door. When his hand makes contact, Finn says a few words in another language and his arm burst to  life flowing with blue lights. The door makes a noise and a shield seams to lower into Finn's hand as he opens the door. He pulls me in and I'm immediately overwhelmed at the smells around me, some fragrant like perfumes and others dirty like burning wood. He had shelves of boxes and books, homemade spells and food with jars of candy lining the shelves.
Finn puts the wards back up and leads me to the kitchen where he sits me down at the wooden table across from the couch and the wall covered in art work, "Wait here while I run upstairs and get the witch you just relax and think if anything hurts or needs to be looked at." with Finns vampy speed skills he vanishes up the stairs to get this so called witch, I certainly do hope I don't meet the same fate as my parents once did in this town years ago. I here rustling and movement up the stairs as a dark skinned man comes running to me with worried eyes and open arms. he cups my face in his hands and scans me over for any sign of blood or wounds. "Finnegan she looks alright, you made her out to be as if she'd been attacked." He looks back at Finn letting go of my face in order to hit him in the head just enough to scuffle his hair. He then turns around to me and straightens up his robe and his curly mop of hair, I hold out my hand to introduce myself and he grabs it with both hands pulling me in with a smile. "I'm Ezra and this my little spells and Knick knack shop." he has a strange contagious happiness that causes my worries and doubts to slip away. He rubs his hand through my hair making his way to my ears checking for ticks and mites since my ears are much different  from human ears. "Are you ok," He says we a worry filled smile and motions me to sit down, I obey as my feet have become numb after so many days of walking. He reaches into his shelves and pulls  out a kettle and a metal box of herbs and tea bags for homemade blends. "Go on love what happen? Why are you out in the woods at this hour?" I yawned in response of all their questions and simply said, "No disrespect Ezra but I'm exhausted and my feet are throbbing, I think the walking has caught up to me." He nods knowing what I mean. Ezra hands me a cup of tea and some cookies from a jar up in the cabinet. "Right I'm sorry. Let me help Finn out and I'll come back and run you a bath with herbs and salts to get you well rested and ready for tomorrow." He and Finn stepped to a hatch underneath the rug in Ezra's common quarters.  I took a few cookies sneaking them into my bag so that I can eat them later as well, they were ( favorite kind ) cookies and i couldn't resist the temptation to stuff my face.
Finn calls my name waving as he disappears into the hole and Ezra closes it back up and covers it again. "Alright now to get you all set, come with me up stairs." I follow behind slowly hating every step up those stairs but it was well worth it when I made it. He had a big circle tub surrounded in stone, it looked to be able to fit two people and the water come up pretty high. The twinkling lights hanging from the ceiling were different shades of blue purple and pink with a magical blue flamed candle hanging on the wall in a glass case. The tub was filled with steaming water and flower petals, the room smelled of pine and mint with citrus chopped up into slices and dropped into the water. Bubbles had covered the top of the water like snow and smelled like lavender and honey. His bathroom was pure happiness and love expressed in his home. "Now this bath should help your muscles not be sore in the morning and it should help you fall asleep tonight, I hate to ask but should I check you for ticks or scratch's anywhere on you?" I shrugged as my body was still covered in fur and it could be hiding anything but I was so self conscious about my body that I wouldn't dare ask for his help with this task. I point my head down and hugged myself as if to comfort myself. Ezra looked at me with kind eyes and hands me a towel, "Its ok if you aren't comfortable with it, just promise me you'll come and let me take any off for you. They carry lime disease and other things that can harm you!" as he goes to grab the handle to leave I grab his arm. I muster up all the courage I can and whispered, "Can you stay and help me Ezra?" He smiles and blushes slightly, wrapping me in a hug, "of course!" He closes the door and stays turned around as I take my clothes that I have on now off and grab the robe from the wall and cover myself. "Alright your ok to look now." I say in a small voice. "Alright I'm gonna start with your legs and work my way up and after your done you can use my cats flea shampoo to make sure everything is clean and gone. I nod my head agreeing and let him begin, he rubs his soft hands over my paw pads massaging as he goes looking for any bumps or imperfections. He comes across a tick that had made itself at home on my inner thigh , he poked and prodded at it for a few minutes but it was resistant to all his attempts. "You know fur is great but I just don't think I could do a full body of it." He laughs and I return his joke with a giggle of my own. "Would it be easier if there was no fur?" I ask searching his face for his reaction.  At first he looks confused and he seemed to be racking his brain for what I could be saying. "Well I'm certainly not going to shave you if that's what your asking." he smiles and we both laugh. I trusted Ezra I didn't sense any type of misjudgment or threat coming from this simple witch.
I began to shift into my human form and my leg grew smaller in his hand and the once thick course fur is now bare soft human skin. The robe that was a perfect fit before, is now hanging down off my shoulders. It draped around me like a sheet and Ezra had stayed quiet so far, only staring wide eyed and enchanted at the sight. My hair falls in front of my face as I smile at him, "Is that any better?" He's still not said a word so far, just staring at my face and rubbing my legs searching for the fur that was no longer there. "Now how did you do that? spell? hallucinations? Are you even a wolf?" He seems stunned and unsure of what to say, he did however have lots of questions some of which I could answer and others was searching for myself. We talked while taking the ticks that had made themselves at home on me off finally, burning them as he went. his hands glided over me like soap and his hands felt like heaven against my skin.  "I'm honestly stunned I didn't think of it before you told me, I remember in school they use to mention small things about dire wolves but they never dove into that chapter which I guess was because you guys were believed to have died out long ago. but behold!" he places some bubbles on my he'd and smiles so wide that his eyes look squinty. "your here1 So obviously the world didn't lose all of its beautiful one of a kind dire wolves." What a sweet happy minded guy, he seemed to only be able to see the silver lining and if he could see the other side of things then he hides his emotions very well. It didn't take much for the mud and dirt that was previously there to fall away into the soapy water. Ezra had gone to make himself a cup of tea and was waiting in his room for when I was done. My hair had been shampooed and I washed my body with the bar of soap sitting on the side of the tub. It was green and purple but see through, there was a small flower in the middle and there seemed to be small beads in the soap that came out as you washed. It smelled like roses and vanilla, the smell reminded me of Ezra. Soon I got out and dried myself off with the lavender towel Ezra had left behind, throwing the robe on and heading to where Ezra had said his room was. He had laid out a large t-shirt and a pair of women's shorts? I hadn't seen a women in here before and no-one had said anything about a wife or girlfriend ... maybe they were a friend of his, at least that's what I'm hoping. As soon as my head hit the soft feather pillow I drifted off into a deep sleep, filled with dreams of of cookies, flowers, and Ezra? oh, Finnigan as well. Seems I simply cant escape the happenings of tonight or the past. My memories slowly drift back to that little blonde haired girl I had loved once before.
(A/N) The picture at the top is of the characters mentioned in this from the game when the night comes. if you haven't read it You should defiantly take a look before you dive into this so that you can fall in love with the characters before reading other peoples interpretations of their personalities. I personally feel like I couldn't dream of reaching the level of dedication that the creator of the game had for their characters.
I also have a second chapter out on wattpad you can find it here.

Chapter One | Chapter Two | Chapter Three | Chapter Four | Chapter Five
MASTERLIST
...
Loki sat in Bucky's apartment, staring out the small window of his bedroom; looking at nothing. A piece of paper lay in front of him, the few words that were written on it crossed out. He still held the pen between his slender fingers, spinning it around and keeping his hand busy. He sighed heavily and slumped back against the back of the chair which creaked softly as he hit the wood. Writing a letter wasn't usually a difficult thing to do, for a poet like him, but hiding and holding in the words of affection that were racing through his mind was hard. He hadn't recieved any letters from Bucky at the front but figured they must have went missing on the way back to the United States. He should have known; they were mortals afterall.
He glanced from the window to the paper and frowned disappointingly. Not a single word that he'd written in the past two hours was not crossed out or overseen with questionmarks. Loki had planned on finally confessing his love to Bucky, telling him that he meant far more to him than he could possibly assume. Loki wanted to tell him when the sergeant was shipped to Europe but the weak voice inside his head was screaming 'no.' He'd brushed it off that day, thinking he'd had all the time to do so when Bucky came back, but after recieving not a single letter in almost a year, he got scared. Had Bucky possibly found someone new? Maybe it was his own fault if. He hadn't thought of writing James a lot if he was being honest and now maybe he had to pay the price. "But just maybe." he mumbled and brushed his greasy black hair behind his ear. He missed Bucky doing that for him whenever he was reading. He missed when his gentle hand brushed it back and stayed there, cupping the side of his head before James went on doing something else. Loki smiled sadly. He missed him so much.
"What'cha doin'?" said a slightly familiar voice from behind him. He turned around and saw a tall blond man staring down at him. He seemed to be in pain- not the kind you'd feel when being injured, but rather emotional pain caused by a tragic event. He knew this man, had seen him somewhere before. But his mind seemed to be ignoring his request on providing information.
"Who are you and what is your excuse for walking into strangers apartments?" Loki said threatingly, pushing the wooden chair back and staring the somewhat familiar looking stranger down. He still held the pencil in his hand and pointed at the slightly shorter man, ready to use it.
"Calm down, please." the other man said and raised his hands slightly in surrender. He chuckled. "Didn't know you and Buck were this close. You've known eacher other for three days, right? That's quite rushed-even for him."
"How dare you speak of him in that tone!" Loki hissed angrily and raised the pencil higher. His hand holding it even firmer.
"I remember you." the blond said, lowering his hands again before strolling through the apartment. Loki's eyes were still focused on him. The slender man looked like he'd just wait for him to do something wrong so that he could stab him with the pen. "You're the guy from the Expo that Buck fell in love with at first sight. If I can remember correctly he drooled more because of you than because of Stark's flying car.- You seemed to be such a gentleman as well; didn't know you could be that defensive."
"It seems like you remember every detail but how come I do not remember you?"
"Oh right, I'm sorry. I'm only just getting used to-" he pointed nervously at his muscular body. "-all of that." the tall man took a few steps forward and stretched out his hand, smiling softly and polite. "I'm Steve Rogers. Bucky's friend."
Loki let his hand drop. The defensive posture now relaxed but confused. Disbelieve mixed with shock spread over his face as he tried to figure out what Steve just said. Has he meant that tiny guy that was with James? That couldn't be. It was almost impossible. But yet, he was from another realm and a literal god; he should have not been that shocked.
"What happened?" Loki asked, trying to sound as polite as possible even with the threat lingering in his voice.
"Uh, it's a long story. Short: I succeeded in enlisting and somewhat got caught up in Howard Stark's experiment to create a super soldier." Steve paused for a second as he straightened his brown uniform that looked like it was two sizes too small. "But that's not why I'm here."
"I figured. If you are here in hope to find any news on James you wasted your time." Loki sighed annoyed. He had nothing against Steve, nothing in particular at least, but the longer he had stayed on earth the more these mortals got on his nerves. Their primitive minds were way behind his. Odin had always preached that midgardians and asgardians we're equal, but in Loki's eyes they were far below him. With one exception: Bucky.
"I tought I might give it a try. Just in case they sent a letter to the wrong adress since his family hasn't recieved one either." Steve sat down and motioned for Loki to do the same. He hesitated at first, not being too comfortable around the other man and would rather not let his guard down, but still took a seat in the end. The blond inspected the wadded paper that was laying on the floor and on the table, taking in the attempts of writing a letter.
"Have you heard anything? It looks like you were writing a letter. Maybe a response?" Steve asked interested.
"Sadly, no. And I would rather say I tried writing one. Everything that came to my mind was nonsense. I was trying to confess-" Loki stopped, not entirely sure if the thing he was about to say would be of any interest to Steve, "-something."
Steve nodded in response as he knew what Loki had meant. "Yeah, confessing his love to another man is risky when you don't know if the letters are being read by authorities beforehand. But you'll have the chance to tell him. Once I get him back the first person he'll see is you, I promise."
" 'Get him back'? What do you mean by that?" Loki asked stressed. It seemed as if Steve thought something might have happened to James and he did not like this way of thinking. Even though the same thought crossed his mind a couple of times as well. He'd always pushed it aside, ignored it in fear that the more he was considering it, it might become true.
"Did you think they made a super soldier and won't send him into war?" he chuckled, looking down at the floor. "Well, one actually refused but I'm not staying in a lab where I can do nothing for the soldiers fighting on the fronts you know?"
"That's honourable, but you're as much of a fool as James is. Blindly turning to violence must be a common human trait I suppose. It's pathetic."
"Bucky's a good guy. He wouldn't be violent if it wasn't needed. I'm sure you know that."
Loki nodded in agreement and smiled. "You're right. But you-" he pointed at Steve, "James has told me a lot about your habit of picking fights with strangers. You surely are a fool." Steve laughed.
"Yeah, Buck's said that a thousand times already. I'm sure he's happy he found someone who thinks alike." both were silent as neither really knew how to continue. Everything had been said, well..almost everything.
"I will accompany you." Loki said out of nowhere. Steve looked at him in disapproval, clearly not liking the idea.
"No. You clearly don't have any experience in how to handle weapons and surely no military training either. If something goes wrong I will not be the one who was responsible for you getting hurt or you dying. Bucky would never forgive me for this." Steve shook his head, his voice was remarkably monotone and flat.
"I am of much more capable than you think, Rogers." Loki answered sternly, not interested in being pitied. "If there's a chance of James being hurt, we shouldn't be wasting any more time. If you like it or not, we're safer when I'm coming with you. Doesn't matter what happens."
"Alright, if you're sure about it, come along." Steve left after the conversation was over, leaving Loki all by himself...again. Not that he minded. Rogers said they would be leaving tomorrow morning and that Loki should be on time because "Peggy", whoever that was supposed to be, would have his ass otherwise. And he was. The next morning all of them plus Howard Stark sat in a plane to Europe. During the flight he and Stark discussed his invention, the flying car he presented almost a year ago at the Expo. Howard was surprisingly openminded when Loki gave him a couple of tips on how to improve the power and stability of the car. He mostly concentrated on flying the plane but did catch a few of what Loki had said. Maybe if he had listened to more than these few scraps he'd even have accomplished building a functioning one.
When the plane landed Steve, Loki and Peggy (Loki found out she was similar to the warriors on Asgard. He was impressed; didn't know some of these mortals would have the courage to do what she did. She really amazed him. "Worth studying." he thought.) were being brought to the main tent of the camp where Bucky was stationed. A massive man sitting behind a desk, writing letters to families of missing or dead soldiers. There was a list laying on the wooden plate, showing their names and ID numbers.
"Sir?" Steve said saluting. The general looked up, taking in the muscular man in front of him. He squeezed the bridge of his nose and sighed.
"You must be Rogers then."
"Yes, Sir. I was sent here to help."
"Help? For fuck's sake I'm not gonna send you out there, Rogers. You're no soldier even with that serum in you. The only thing I'm allowing you to do it keeping these troops entertained." he didn't laugh. He was serious. But that wasn't why Steve was here. He wasn't an object used for entertainment, he was a weapon.
"Sir, I am not-"
"I don't care what you think you are! You're here to entertain the troops, not fight at the front!"
Loki and Peggy were standing behind Steve, observing the tension with great interest as the muscular man fought with the general. Interested in the list that was laying on the table, Loki silently took a step towards it while the other men kept fighting. They didn't seem to recognize him moving and taking the sheet of paper. He flicked through the pages of names and stopped abruptly. 'James Buchanan Barnes- Missing'. He felt a lump in his throat and his hands started trembling slightly. Loki handed the paper to Steve as he was trying to keep the tears from falling.
"Rogers." he said softly, pointing at the row where Bucky's name was written. Steve took in a deep breath, trying just as much as Bucky to not let his emotions win the fight. There was no time for crying, not now. Not until he knew for sure what happened to his best friend.
Loki turned to the general and leaned against the desk. "What happened to Sergeant Barnes, General?" he said threateningly, just like when Steve had 'broken' into Bucky's apartment. The general sighed defeated, knowing it was pointless denying information now.
"His and other teams went missing on a mission. There were no traces of where these Nazis have taken them. None." he slammed a hand down onto the table, making both Loki and Steve jerk back a little.
"We'll find him, General." Steve said and put the list back down.
"Like hell you will, Rogers! I'm the one in charge and responsible for you and you will not leave this camp, do you hear me?!" with every time Steve talked back the anger in the general's voice increased. He was simply not having it.
The three of them left the tent in the end, Steve furious about the man's ignorance, Loki distressed and confused in how Steve could obey when the life of his partner was in danger and Peggy trying to bring Steve to his senses.
"What are you doing, Rogers?" Loki yelled at Steve as he stepped in front of him, trying to keep him from walking. "Only a complete idiot would listen to these orders! James is in danger and you're planning on doing nothing?"
"No, I'm not. Once it's gotten dark, we're leaving." he turned to Peggy. "Peggy, you're trying to find out where Bucky's team was headed and ask Stark if he could get us there somehow. Loki and I will distract the guards and get some weapons and equipment later in the evening."
The plan was simple, wait until it went dark, distract the guards, sneak into the tent that stored boxes of weapons and uniforms, get to Stark and get Bucky back. Everyone was prepared. Peggy succeeded in getting Stark to fly them to the coordinates and Steve and Loki got the things they needed. Although Loki didn't like the idea of carrying guns. Steve had been right, he didn't know how to use them but what was he supposed to do? Let some golden daggers appear and tell him that he 'found them somewhere in the mud'? Mortals may be dumb but even they would figure that there was something wrong.
The night seemed to be lasting forever. Fighting Nazis and marching trough mud. Steve had mainly used the shield he got from the camp whereas Loki had gotten himself a dagger once Steve was busy fighting the enemy. Only once he had used the gun but had completely missed the target. So he switched.
It had taken a few hours until they had found a big building hidden in the woods, heavily guarded.
"Won't be easy gettin in." Steve said breathlessly.
"It surely won't." Loki responded, holding the gun closer to him. He was exhausted. More than he had ever been in all of the years that he'd been alive. He wasn't trained for war, not on Asgard and not on Midgard. This much physical strain was almost unbearable for him. It felt like he would collapse any minute. But why? He was a god, he should be able to handle all of this. Afterall it was a mighty creature against puny, worthless ants.
Once they had broken into the Nazi camp, they decided to split up. Steve went searching for the missing units and Loki went to find Bucky. Knowing his best friend Steve figured Bucky wouldn't stop fighting until he'd taken his last breath. They had probably seperated him from the others to avoid riots and resistance.
Loki made his way through the dark, wet halls. All of them seemed to be empty as Steve had probably already started to gain their attention and lure them downstairs. 'Bucky had not exaggerated. Rogers really is a fool.' Loki thought.
The place smelled horrible. The stench bore through his nostrils as he walked further to the end of the hall, suddenly becoming aware of a quiet voice mumbling something. Loki followed the sound until he'd reached a heavy metal door that was slightly cracked open. He raised his gun, ready to fire at anything that moves...if he hit. The room, much like the halls, was dark and stunk of death and blood. Loki pulled a face. The more he moved into the poorly lit room the louder the mumbles got. Behind remains of an old wall that used to devide the two roooms that were now one, Loki could see someone laying on a metal table. The man was mumbling and it...sounded familiar. He gulped, each step he took faster than the one before.
"James?" He asked shocked, putting the gun away as he stood beside the table. It was him. Tied down by psychopaths.
Bucky opened his eyes, red from being kept awake due to the immense pain and crying. James looked up, trying to find the owner of the voice. When he spotted Loki, his eyes were clouded with confusion, not recognizing the man at first.
"Loki?" Bucky asked smiling as the haze in his mind slowly faded.
Loki teared up at the weak voice. He placed a hand on Bucky's cheek, trying to give the shivering man on the table as much warmth as possible.
"Am- am I dead? Is it over?" Bucky asked. His eyes boring through Lokis' in hope he'd say yes. He had wished so desperately that all of this would end for weeks and now, his wish might come true.
"Nonono, you're not. I promise. I've got you, James. You're safe. It's okay." Loki whispered, his voice breaking a little as his thumb stroked softly over Bucky's cheek. The shiver in James' body seemed to fade with every second the god's hand lay comfortingly on the clammy cheek.
"I'm still alive?" he asked, not entirely sure if this was another one of their traps he would fall into. 'No, he won't. Not again.'
"Yes. Yes you are. And I'm here with Steve. We're getting you out of here, alright?" Loki's voice was soothing as he figured it would be of no use to the tortured man if he'd started panicking. But Bucky's mind seemed to have drifted off. "Love, do you understand?" Loki asked again, trying to get the man on the table to focus.
"Yeah, I think- I think I got it." James laughed. He'd missed that. Loki calling him 'love'. "Can you-uh-untie me, please?"
"Yes, of course. I'm sorry."
Once Bucky was free, he sat up, letting his legs dangle from the edge of metal table. He softly massaged the sore wrists where the ties have held him down.
"Can you stand?" the black-haired man asked concerned.
"I guess, yeah. I might need a little bit of help though." smiling, Bucky slowly slid from the table, his knees buckeling as soon as his feet hit the concrete floor. Loki was there in an instant, putting Bucky's arm over his shoulder and steadied him with one arm around his waist.
"Now...where's Steve? Didn't you say you two were here together?"
"Yes, he's-"
"Right here, Buck." Steve interrupted as he walked into the room smiling. It felt like a weight was pulled off his chest. His friend was alive. Not all that well, but alive.
"What- Steve, is that you?" Bucky asked as he let his eyes wander over the soldier's body. "What happened?"
"They poked me with a needle."
"I- is it permanent?"
"So far."
As the three were walking down the halls again, Loki having left his gun where they had found Bucky, the silence that was once haunting the corridors was gone. There were loud noises everywhere, keeping them from hearing enemies coming around the corner.
"Rogers, be careful!!" Loki shouted as two heavily armed men pointed their guns at them. Steve threw his shield, only managing to take down one of them. Not wanting to get both Bucky and Steve in danger, Loki let his hand, that has been around James' waist fall. A bright green light covered his hand, both Steve and Bucky looked at the lightball with confusion. Maybe it was even fear. The light faded as quickly as it appeared, revealing a shiny dagger, the blade made of gold. He threw it with a swift motion at the men down the hall, hitting him straight in the chest.
"Not the strangest thing I've seen here but- The hell was that?!" Bucky asked baffled.
"I'm not who you think I might be."
"No shit." he laughed.
"I am from Asgard, a realm outside of yours. My powers are greater than you may realise." Loki panted. Holding Bucky, basically running and talking st the same time took too much energy from him.
"Are you a wizard or something?" James asked confused, not quite getting what his lover had meant.
"I am NOT a wizard. Don't you dare disrespect me like that again. I am the god of mischief." Loki defended himself. No mortal would call him a damn wizard.
Bucky looked at Steve in awe, smiling from ear to ear. "Did you hear that, Stevie?" he chuckled. "I'm in love with a literal GOD."
"Yeah, of mischief. Wouldn't wanna crown myself with that." Steve snorted.
"You're being no fun, Steve. When have you ever seen a god, huh? I am FUC-"
"Stop it! Keep those things to yourself, Buck. I don't wanna hear it." The soldier interrupted his friend. This was something he was not overly fond of hearing.
"You do realise that I can still hear you?" Loki raised his eyebrows. Was this some sort of mortal thing to do? Talking about a person that was standing in the same room, hearing what they are saying?
"Sorry, doll." Bucky smiled sweetly.
"Alright, let's get out of this place." Steve said as he kicked down a door that was keeping them from the exit.
"Hell yeah." Bucky approved and clung to Loki's body even more. He had just gotten him back and he was never letting him go.

Criminal
Tumblr media
author: bangtanficgallery
word count: 1751 (maybe more)
warnings: none
genre: criminal!yoongi, fluff
pairing: yoongi x reader
summary: “He is a bad boy with a tainted heart and even I know this ain’t smart, but mama I’m in love with a criminal and this type of love isn’t rational, it’s physical. Mama please don’t cry, I will be alright. All reason aside I just can’t deny, I love the guy”
 “Mom”
“Y/N? Oh my god, Y/N where are you?”
“Mom, just listen to me”
“Where are you? We’ve been looking for you for months I don’t know w-”
“Mom, just stop! Listen what I have to say or else I’m going to hang up and you’re never going to hear about me again”
Suddenly the line got quiet, she’s waiting. Also, she is desperate. Knowing my mom, she would never shut up. I could feel the tears going down my cheeks and my head starting to ache, but I tried my best to keep my voice stable.
“I’m not coming back home” my mom started to speak again but I cut her “I can’t, ok? It’s dangerous for you guys, so I have to disappear”
“Oh my beautiful daughter” She was quietly crying “What happened? Please I miss you, we all miss you”
I should be honest with her. At least for the last time.
“I’m in love with a criminal. It’s not what you dreamed for me, it’s not what I dreamed for me, but still. He may be a killer, a robber, a bad boy” I sighed “But I’ve never met someone like him. I have already been with high-class guys, rich college students and successful CEOs, but none of them treated me good like him”
“My daughter, what are you doing?”
“Sorry mom, but I decided already. I wanna go with him and keep my family safe. I’ve been disappointing you, but I want it. I love you”
I hang up.
“Yoongi, you’re sure this is really necessary?”
“Yes”
“But you already have so much…”
“Hey, listen to me. I can’t take both of us from here if I don’t do this, ok? We already talked about this”
He calmly loaded his gun.
“Promise me you’re not going to use this” I pointed to his gun.
Yoongi smiled to me.
“How a lady like you ended with a guy like me?” he kissed me passionately “You are what I need in my life, I don’t need any of this money since I have you by my side. I finally feel complete. But I have to keep you safe”
Safe is everywhere with him, mostly like this engulfed in his arms.
“Take me with you”
“I don’t want you to get involved in this miserable life plus I don’t want your beautiful face printed in all wanted posters”
“So I have to stay here…”
“And wait for me. You’re my good girl, right?”
I nodded.
“It’s time. See you in a while”
Yoongi quickly pecked my lips and got out of the house. Well, not a house. It’s more like a bunker. I got surprised when Yoongi brought me here for the first time, but I’ve been here for so long that I’m already used. I miss the sunlight, of course; it’s always dark down here. This place is an off-map abandoned park out of town. Yoongi’s bunker is under the ghost train. We have to get into the maintenance room and move away a very heavy iron cabinet and pull the trapdoor under it, go down the wood fragile stairs and walk until reach a vault. Once it’s opened, you can see the house. It’s big and the ceiling is rounded. The floor is white marble and all the expensive furniture is black, I wonder how Yoongi brought all of this here. And everything is black. The sheets, towels, cushions dishcloth… I laughed with myself thinking how soft Yoongi is for white even if his house is all black. I’m the only white thing inside this house. I came to his house with only the clothes I had in my body and only Yoongi could bring me new clothes since he’s the only one who can actually go outside. All white. Soft knee socks, skirts and croppeds, ruffles and lace. Even if I miss my old clothes, I smiled every time Yoongi look at me dressed like this, his love evidently in his eyes
“Why always white Yoongi?” I asked once.
“Because is soft. You made me soft and brought light to my dark  life”
I have nothing to do here since I don’t have internet to keep myself busy. The house is safe for all kind of cyber tracker, so I try my best to occupy my mind with books and Yoongi have plenty of it. I can’t avoid getting worried about him, even knowing that he is smart enough to never get caught. ‘He’s coming back home soon, Y/N. Don’t freak out’ I keep saying to myself. But I couldn’t stop thinking “and if”. Everything can happen since Yoongi is a lone wolf. Of course he have contacts to keep cops and whatever off his ass, but he do everything alone, doesn’t have anyone to backup him. That’s why I always ask him to come, but he always denies. It’s that difficult to use a gun? Of course I don’t understand a thing about this. I was raised in a luxurious house with everything given in my hand. My future was built, I could be rich and successful with my career and have a pampered and high-class life. But I wasn’t happy. Everything seemed too easy, too fake, too… unhappy. I am a hard-working type of person, I like to be the best, but it seemed like I didn’t need to make any effort to have what I wanted to conquer. I had no one by my side. I was lonely. Everyone approached me for a reason, wanting a favour or take advantage of me. My ex-fiancée was a cheater, a bad person and a profiteer guy. Yoongi saved me from him. When he was about to beat me because I “embarrass” him in front of everyone and Yoongi kicked my ex’s soul out and took me with him. It wasn’t hard to fall for Yoongi. He is an amazing person, a fairytale prince despite what he does for living. He’s the only true person I met in my whole life. So I runaway to be with him and I don’t regret. Think so much was making me sleepy. I went back to the silk sheets and fell asleep instantly.
The sound of water running coming for the bathroom woke me up. Yoongi is finally back! I walked to the bathroom discarding my clothes on the way.
“Mind if I join you?”
“You would be doing me a big favour”
I slowly approached him, looking without blink to his face. Yoongi was smiling with his arms opened where I wanted to be so bad. He hugged me and immediately kissed me roughly but softly, making both of us start combustion.  I missed him.
“Don’t be so soft, my flower. I don’t want it to end innocently”
“Take me”
Yoongi laughed, lifting me. I comfortably put my legs around his waist, getting lost in all movements that he was doing to make all of this feel so good.
I couldn’t be tired of Yoongi. Even now when we were collapsed on bed, exhausted, I wanted to show my love for him, caressing all of him that I could see. His milky tattooed skin is soft and beautiful. I got lost in the drawings on his arms and chest, noticing a new addition.
“What’s this?”
“What?”
He looked at me with fake innocence.
“Did you-”
“Yes”
I brushed lightly my fingers on his skin where my name was written. It’s delicate compared to the others. It was close to his heart. I kissed there then kissed my lover. It was a strange feeling of finally have everything I looked for.
“My flower”
“Hum?”
“Let’s be free”
“I’m already free with you, Yoongie”
“I’m talking about being really free. Walking around together, see the sea… So I could take you on a proper date, kiss you under the sunlight”
“Is it possible?”
“Only if you say yes”
“Of course my answer is yes, since if this is what you want to, but how?”
“I have a good friend who asked me to move forward to where he lives a long time ago. He lives in another country”
“Where’s it?”
“Fiji Island”
“Interesting” I laughed.
“I just have to found some fake documents for us and get there. I won’t be afraid of someone take you from me anymore, or do things like this to live. We can be free, have a life, let this life in the past”
His eyes were shining.
“Let’s go there then”
Yoongi laughed and kissed me.
“You gave me purpose. I was just around, having a fake life, telling myself that I was satisfied but I had nothing. I stole and killed, I used to be ok with this, cold-hearted. But now I feel ashamed. I don’t want this life anymore. I want you by my side, having a great life without hiding ourselves”
“I think it’s fate, Yoongi. You saved me too”
“Let’s arrange everything. I love you”
“I love you too”
Yoongi pecked my lips and excitedly got up.
“Where are you going?”
“Ensure our future”
The past week flew. I finally felt useful, helping Yoongi arrange the fake papers and fake documents to get us out of there. We tested everything and contacted a lot his friend, Jimin. He’s very nice and smiley and his very much patient wife helped us with the right place to get good documents with discretion. I was excited and anxious at the same time. Everything could work right or really bad and both of us would end up going to jail. Finally is the last day of our lives here and the beginning of the new life. Yoongi’s hair was dyed blond and I was wearing a cap and covering my face all the way I could. I bought new clothes for me and Yoongi, among other things that we’re going to need in the new country. The only thing I was sad about was the bunker. Yoongi installed explosives and everything is going to blow in one hour. We were already in the way to the airport. I called Jimin asking if is everything alright and ready and he confirmed that they’re waiting for us. When I finished the call, I destroyed the new bright cellphone that I bought with my beautiful fake id.
“I just have to do make one last thing”
“What?” Yoongi asked.
“Call mom”

Tell Me Why
This is Part Two of Keep It To Myself
Summary: High School au
You want to why Zabdiel continues talking to his ex
Word Count: 2281
Tumblr media
When Monday rolls around you're left to face the consequences you get for making out with your friend Saturday night.
Chris and Erick are laughing as Richard describes every detail of the kiss, Joel sits beside you listening but not really caring enough to laugh.
"And I gotta admit y/n you're a good kisser" Richard smirks, you grab a grape off your lunch tray and throw it at him, Richard laughs as he catches it and pops it into his mouth with a wink.
"I'm sorry you didn't get your turn man" Richard claps his hand on Zabdiel's back.
Zabdiel who sits across from you is just looking at Richard with an emotionless expression.
"That's such a gross thing to say Richard" Joel shakes his head.
"Okay okay, I'm sorry," Richard tells you raising his hands in defense.
Chris reaches across the table to grab your half a burger that you're not eating anymore. You don't even acknowledge it, Chris is always eating whatever you leave.
The bell soon rings and the whole cafeteria stands to throw away their trash.
As you're walking to the trash cans you feel someone walk up behind you "how do you think he'll react if I told him how much we actually do" Zabdiel whispers in your ear. You look over at him as he smirks "and how much you love my tongue" teasing evident in his tone and then his voice deepens "and when I suck on your-" you roughly push him away and he laughs loudly.
You're cheeks burn red as you look at Zabdiel who sends you a wink before walking ahead to throw his tray. Flashbacks of the night in his car replay in your mind and it doesn't help to ease the reddening of your cheeks.
You're not usually a blunt person but the mix of jealousy and alcohol really made you bold that night.
"Whoa, why is your face so red?" Joel asks walking up beside you.
Later that day you're walking out of your last class with Joel, he's talking about this girl he has a crush on.
"Just ask her out" you shrug as you adjust your backpack so it's easier to carry.
You both walk out of the front doors of the school "I want to but, no" Joel shakes his head "Jo you need to step out of your comfort zone at least once" you sigh.
"No that's how people get hurt!" he defends himself making you roll your eyes.
You scan over the parking lot before your eyes land on a certain tall blonde dyed head.
He's talking with Fiona at a bench. He's facing away from you so you can't see his face but you can see hers as she laughs.
"Did you ask what they were talking about at the party?" Joel asks.
You shake your head. "You spent all day Sunday together and you didn't ask what he was doing talking to his ex-girlfriend?" Joel exclaims.
"He didn't go home with her and that's all that matters" you snap. "Plus we're not even dating" you turn away from the two and start walking to Joel's car since he's your ride home.
"Ok but we went over this" Joel follows after you "if he's still having sex with her and you too, that's really gross so you need to talk to him," Joel says.
You don't say anything, instead sliding into his passenger seat. You're silent the whole ride home and Joel allows you to be, he can practically see your wheels turning and he knows you're just trying to figure out your next move.
When he arrives at your house you bid your goodbyes and walk straight to your room after entering your house.
You end up taking a nap and waking up a couple hours later to your phone ringing. You answer without checking the Caller ID.
"Hello" your voice is slightly deeper due to just being awoken from your slumber.
"Hey can I come over?" you immediately recognize Zabdiel's voice.
"Not tonight," you say.
"Why? We're just gonna hang out, nothing else" he says.
"I'm not in the mood Zabdiel" you sigh.
"Did I do something wrong?" he asks "is that why Joel has been really passive aggressive towards me in the group chat?"
You sit up in your bed "I just need to figure some things out"
"Wha- about us?" he questions.
"See you tomorrow Zabdiel" you hang up the phone before he can say another word.
You toss your phone aside and get started on some homework, but not even 30 minutes later there's a tap at your window.
You window is facing your backyard which is fenced in so you're hesitant when pulling open your curtains.
You open it just a crack but let out a scoff when you see Zabdiel standing on the other side.
Opening your window you glare at him "what are you doing here? And how did you even get back here?"
"Jumped the fence" he gently pushes you aside so he can climb into your room.
"And we need to talk," he says.
"Zabdiel, I need to do homework" you run a hand through your hair.
Zabdiel ignores you, walking to your bed and sitting down facing you.
"What's bothering you cariño?" he questions.
You debate on actually telling him or just dropping it because you two aren't dating and you have no reason to be getting jealous, but you also want to know what's going on between Zabdiel and his ex.
"I saw you talking to Fiona at the party and then again today after school if we're going to be doing this" you gesture towards him and yourself "then we can't be having sex with other people also," you say.
Zabdiel's eyebrows scrunch together and for a second you think he's gonna flip out so you say "and if you're planning to get back with her then just let me know so we can stop this immediately, I'm not about to be somebody's side hoe"
Zabdiel squints "y/n" he stands to his feet " it's not like that"
"Then how is it like?" you question.
"I-" he stops himself before looking at you with a sympathetic look "I can't tell you"
You frown "Zabdiel please just leave" you go to walk past him but he grabs your arm "y/n please"
"We can't continue this if you don't tell me why you still talk to her," you say a little too loud.
"It's not my secret to tell!" he says back just as loud as you.
"Y/n" your doorknob starts jiggling but luckily you always lock your door. You start pushing Zabdiel towards the window "get out, get out before they catch you"
"Y/n" your mom shouts on the other side.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Zabdiel says as he starts climbing out the window.
"Yeah ok leave" you shove him making him fall to the ground with a thud on the other side.
"Are you okay?" you say sticking your head out of the window to look at him on the ground.
He gives you a thumbs up and you nod before quickly shutting the window and closing the curtains before running to unlock your door.
Friday
You managed to successfully avoid speaking to Zabdiel, every time he tries to get you alone you quickly run and look for Joel or when he messages you, you either don't reply or give him one-word replies. You've also been sleeping at your cousin's house all to avoid anymore surprise visits.
Today you drove to school so when dropping off Joel after school he asked for you to stay for a while.
You guys end up taking a nap and not waking up till 7 pm so you just stay a while longer till about 11, cause you're supposed to pick up your mom from her job at a motel at 12 am.
You park in the parking lot and send a text to your mom that you're there before dropping your phone in the cup holder and scanning the parking lot.
As you look over to the car beside you, your eyes widen at Fiona in the driver side of the parked car beside you.
She's biting her lip as she keeps her eyes on the motel rooms section. You scrunch your eyebrows in confusion turning your head to look to the rooms before looking back at her.
You watch as she sinks slightly in her seat. You look back in the direction of her line of sight.
A man and a woman walk out of a room laughing with each other before the man pulls the woman into a long passionate kiss.
They pull apart and it's only when the man turns around that you recognize him from all the school events he's attended.
It's Fiona's dad and you know that's not her mother.
You watch dumbfounded as her dad waves to the woman and walks over to his car across the parking lot.
He pulls out of the parking lot and drives off and that's when you turn your head to see Fiona still staring after where his vehicle disappeared.
Maybe it's that she felt your gaze but she turns to your direction to see you already staring back at her.
Your eyes widen and you quickly look away and sink down in your seat. Your mom knocks on your window and you jump in your seat.
Placing a hand over your heart you unlock the door for her.
"What were you staring at?" your mom asks.
You look back over to see Fiona still staring back at you.
You shake your head. "Nothing"
Saturday morning you have the house to yourself so you watch tv as loudly as you want and eat everything in sight.
That is until your doorbell rings and interrupts your favorite Netflix show.
With a groan, you stand from your bed and walk very sluggishly to the front door.
When you pull the door open your met with Zabdiel in a black beanie, a distressed white shirt, and black skinny jeans. You immediately straighten up already having an idea as to why he doesn't look his usual cheerful self.
"Fiona called me last night," he says.
You curl your lips into your mouth and gesture for him to come inside.
"If she sent you over here to make sure I don't tell anyone, you know I'm not like that" you turn to him after shutting the door.
"You can't tell Joel either," he says making you pout. Even if you promise you won't tell anyone you always tell Joel he's your best friend and all your secrets are his.
"But that's not the only thing, she told me I could tell you everything" you nod and lead the way back to your room.
Zabdiel takes a seat on the bed as you pick up the bowl of popcorn and a bag of hot Cheetos setting them on your nightstand to take to the kitchen later.
"Fiona and I have known each other a long time, you know that," Zabdiel says making you nod.
"Our parents are friends and for as long as I remember Fiona and I have told each other everything, she was my first and only best friend for a long time." you nod wanting him to continue.
"her dad has always been unfaithful, that's not a shocker. but her parents started going to counseling. I mean why go to counseling if you're not gonna try?" Zabdiel's eyebrows scrunch together. "but that's not the only reason I still talk to her. Fiona has anxiety and depression and for so long I've been the one to be there for her. I know how to help her out of an anxiety attack, I know who to call when I feel like her depression is getting too much. and I can't stop talking to her just because we broke up. I can't leave her alone"
You nod in understanding "you didn't have to tell me all that" you look down feeling guilty because you basically forced it out of him by not talking to him.
"no, it's okay, she let me tell you because she knows how much I like you" your looking at your lap when he says this. you scrunch your eyebrows not wanting to look up at him in case he takes it back.
"what?" you say lowly.
"what?" Zabdiel asks unsure of what you're questioning.
you finally look up at him you're heart pounding almost painfully against your chest as you force yourself to ask "did you just say you like me?"
Zabdiel frowns "why are you looking at me like that?"
"like how?" you ask
"like you're so surprised? you can't seriously be shocked by this?"
"I didn't think you genuinely liked me, I thought you just liked to fuck" you say
"I-" he cuts himself off shaking his head "I've liked you for so long and I never said anything cause I thought you only wanted sex"
your mouth drops as you stare at the boy before you, "I've been a jealous bitch all week and you seriously didn't think 'hmm maybe she likes me'??"
"I mean maybe I just didn't want to get my hopes up" he shrugs and your heart swells at the insecurity and all you want to do is hug and kiss his cute face.
so with a laugh, you pull him to you in a hug "stupid"
You both pull back to look at each other. Your eyes fall to his lip as you smile, he mimics the gesture before you both lean forward counting in a passionate kiss.

lesbian mom
My sister told me I dress like a lesbian mom. With no offense meant towards lesbian mothers because as Chloe put it- if I was a lesbian mom, my style would be closer to cool. But because up to this point in life I have been straight and childless, I’m just an appropriator. Which I definitely don’t want to be by the way, but I'm an American and blind appropriation is the American way. Working on it. I’m in the kitchen in Cedar Falls finding all my last sporadic, traveled with items to shove in my XL backpack* by the time Chloe brings her new opinion up to her roommates, my family. “Cathy, don’t you think Maddie looks like a lesbian mom?” “a what? A lesbian? I didn’t hear you” ...and dad’s reaction: “oh.. did you get a surrogate then?” * (United and Frontier front like they will be strict about charging you based on the sizes of your luggage, but they won't be. Apparently my size of backpack does not count as a personal item (free) but instead a carry-on (not free). It's a glutinous excuse for a backpack. However, they don’t say shit to you when you show up on the day of your flight. In the words of my friend Grace: If it's on your back and not on wheels, you're fine. I have had to repack a backpack once, throwing on a sweatshirt and carrying socks in my hand to make it through. But you know what that was? Free. And Fyi- U.S. airlines alone made 5.1 billion bucks in extra baggage fees in 2018. Don't contribute to that mess.) * But anyways, to come to the defense of lesbian moms, I think I dress with the best intention. I don’t think I have bad taste, but I can have bad execution. It's not entirely my fault though, as I feel bigger boobs make a lot of outfits merge towards mother. Tops are always an issue because you have the possibility of looking tenty, and opposite that- the issue of looking too tucked in. It can make the attempted effortlessness come off as starchy. I also straddle this line of wannabe skater and NOT wannabe school teacher, meaning I would love to come across as someone who deserves to wear Vans and less like someone who is reading to your child over snack time. That one is harder to explain, but has a lot to do with stripes. I don't bother running all of this past her, but I told Chloe that if I was flat-chested she wouldn’t be saying this. She didn’t argue but offered to help pay for my reduction. My dad and I get in the car after I make an everything bagel with some onion flavored cream cheese. A Thomas brand bagel, of course. Because it’s the cushiest and you can find them everywhere. We love a processed carb. He drives me to the airport in his new-but-used Toyota Highlander, which doesn’t reek of cigs like his previous whip. He only likes this new car because it has a cassette player, but the low mileage is a plus. I just want to say that the Cedar Rapids airport is low entertainment. It’s a trade-off because you are through security in seconds, but you have to do things like chase after people to hand them their ID’s they left on the counter to help the employees out because we’re Iowa nice and when in the homeland you have to act right. And people wear really ugly printed leggings and foul footwear. Lots of camo and lots of Hawkeye logos, which I do not identify with despite it being my alma mater. I was caught in a very vulnerable spot with my thick and tall Doc Marten's, (not a good airport shoe but a good everyday shoe so what can you do) hunched over the ‘Get Your Shit Back Together Very Quickly Bench’ that comes after security, when I see this rushed looking, young nerd man in a long black trench coat. He LOUDLY and SO abruptly asks this similarly aged gal he was coming up behind whether her hair was red or blonde. She had long red hair with dyed blonde ends. She said “red?” and he says nothing but “HUMPH” without breaking speed at all. Why did he need to know that and also why could he not see that her hair was both colors? And if he cared so much to know, then why did he not respond? Did he think this was considered to be hitting on her?? Because practically yelling at her to inquire about her appearance is not cutting it. I wish for his sake I could at least call him a boomer but he didn't meet the age requirement. Whatever. She looked around for confirmation that what had just happened to her was so weird, which of course I gave to her by saying: “That was so weird.” The sole restaurant by the gates has Blue Moon so that’s redeeming. But it’s in a tin can which is not so good. I used to prefer a draft pour with an orange slice but I am partial to a cold bottle now, plain- no orange. It’s more consistent this way, as some places don’t clean their draft lines regularly and it shows. I met an icon on my flight today. I, of course, was assigned my usual middle seat as I am certain I paid the littlest amount of airfare out of everyone on the plane. Deals only. But as I step up to my row and make that apologetic eye contact with the dude who is about to have to move and let me assume my usual middle spot, the guy asks me if I want to switch spots with his son- WHO HAS AN AISLE SEAT. YEAH SIR, I DO. And this is how I was seated next to the only stranger I’ve had an extended conversation with on an airplane, ever. At least to the point where I was sure I wanted to be buddies with her. She was not stoked on the middle seat, but it’s the one she had in our row. The icon is named Erin and she said: “I’ve been ignoring people on planes for 20 years but you seem like an absolute riot.” I realized I also tend to spend a lot of time ignoring people on airplanes. I actually spend more time trying not to bother the people around me, aka holding urine in until I am nearly bursting because the awkward fumbling out of my usual middle seat is too much. I did, however, have slight banter with a guy sitting next to me on the way into Iowa from Denver on this same trip. All he wanted to say to me was that he had just been skiing in Vail or something. People love being able to say sentences like this, by the way. "Skiing in Vail". It's supposed to impress whoever they tell. Ok. But later on, he and I would exchange terrified eyes as we watched this awful moment unfold after an older fellow in the row across from us ignored all social rules and played his voicemails on full blast, speaker volume, for about 10 minutes. A young gentleman near us let him know that “We can all hear that!” which I would have never said but was also thinking. Obviously. The Voicemail Blarer says “Oh sorry” calmly but is very caught off guard. I thought- wow. That went well. But the Voicemail Blarer takes all of 30 seconds to stew before erupting. He belly yells that he is a “WAR VETERAN AND THAT IS WHY I CANNOT HEAR OUT OF THIS EAR WHICH IS WHY MY PHONE IS ON SPEAKER AND BY THE WAY IM ON THIS FLIGHT BECAUSE MY MOM JUST DIED AND I AM FLYING BACK TO IOWA FOR THE FUNERAL. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE AHHHHHHHHH KDFKSJDFLKJDFLJSDF”... I feel like the percentage of people flying to Iowa for funerals is probably a decent chunk. Either you're visiting your family or someone died. Just speculating. ANyways. The Mourning Vet Voicemail Blarer said some pretty harsh remarks towards the Complainer that I can’t remember because I was so nervous as a witness to this that my adrenaline was working overtime to suppress. I remember being proud of The Complainer as he kept very level and only said a couple words to defend himself followed by: “I’m sorry you’re going through that man but we don’t all need to hear your voicemails.” I see both sides of this interaction. On the younger Complainer dude’s side, it’s not socially courteous for the vet to be playing his voicemails out loud. Especially for ten minutes. I mean Larry David would have lost it. On the other hand, no one was insulting his status as a vet or poking fun at his late mother, but he has obviously been through more life and more challenges than I and plus he’s grieving. I don’t know. I didn’t mind the voicemails THAT much. Back to today- Erin is the second stranger I’ve met who inspired me this month. Technically this year, and technically this decade, too. Happy 2020. From what I saw, she’s a kick-ass, take no shit, lay it all on the table kind of individual. She had a natural openness about her and radiated warmness but is the type to probably gaurd herself just enough. The kind of person who you would hate to see sad. Born in cedar rapids, went to Iowa for Journalism, got her masters at Syracuse. Has lived all over- New York, London, LA (I think she said). Will not donate to her old sorority, Chi O, because she can’t affiliate with that anymore because it’s lame. But she’s loyal enough to one of her sorority besties to fly to Denver and sit with her while she undergoes a chemo treatment. She asks me about work and I say I have enough side hustles to equate to having a real job. She tells me I need a podcast and says I must have been told this before. I haven’t. But If I had one, I would have her guest star immedieately. She oozes content. Apparently, there’s such a thing as coaching people on how to talk on camera because this is her job. It can be split up into different categories based on the size of the screen. Phone, computer, TV, etc. She kept saying things about “inches”. I thought this was wildly specific, exactly the sort of job you wouldn’t think about until you thought about it. Niche. Hopefully future me is doing something niche right now. But only if I'm enjoying it. She also mentioned some clients she has that I should speak to so I can learn how to travel the world for free. I could have clung to her and never let go after she said this, as that would make my life and her encouragement inspired me. Before this though, we agree I need a credit card that rewards with airline miles instead of cashback. It’s third up on my “to-do now” list- which is different than my “to-do” list becasue that one is for things like making dentist appointments. For the things that should not be put off but can and will be. Until they can't. She asks what my sign is, which is Sagittarius. She said of course. She’s a Virgo. I have no clue what this means. People ask me this sort of thing a lot now though so I need to read up. This guy I met recently who works at Wax Trax Records told me not only extensively about my sign but about my rising moon and one other part of it that I can’t remember. Or is it your rising sign and moon sign as separates? Idk. He told me that every girl he knows has an ex-boyfriend who is a Pisces. True. Erin also told me she’s on some board in Iowa City that is currently discussing the ped mall. I had a lot to say about THAT, as I feel the ped mall has turned into wasted space other than maybe one and a half shops. She agrees. It’s not being utilized like it should be, we think. Too many frat bars. Apparently, her family owns the Bluebird cafes or used to, and I said "ooooooooh!" but that I could never get a seat in the Iowa City location because every hungover kid within a ten mile radius is trying to eat there every Saturday and Sunday morning. I also thought of the time they burned my friend Madison Wood’s toast and she sent it back. I didn’t tell her this though. I like Bluebird. And I hate when people at my table complain about the food. She tells me I'm too good to write for random freelances, which I have dipped my toes into doing. Pays like shit. I agree and listen to her tell me about someone she met when she was just one year sober (she is now ten years along) who pushed her to take charge of her own point of view. It sounded to me like she was inspired to trust and invest in herself. I liked that. As if I needed another excuse to stay out of corporate America. Right before she fell into meditation and soon to be sleep, Erin comments on my middle part and my “nice natural eyebrows” which is funny because I helped the brows out right before going through security. (By helped out, I mean makeup-ed. In the airport bathroom, too far away from the mirror, two different pencils- one chubby for careless shading and one skinnier to help the endpoints of my brow that is otherwise dead.) On the topic of my appearance, I tell her that my sister had just told me that I dress like a lesbian mother. She said she loves my sister.
