Avatar the Last Airbender: Katara MBTI- Why she isn't an ESFJ

I'm going to post this on main because I'm genuinely SO SICK of people mischaracterizing Katara. So sorry to my followers, but my mbti nerd is going to come out.

I truly think that people mistype Katara as an ESFJ because of their focus on stereotypes and thinking that because she is the "mother" of the group, that she is Fe focused and Si secondary. However, I believe that if you really look at her character actions and beliefs, she is an INFP, with a developed Si because of her traumatic past, and enneagram type which I think is 1w2.

For starters, her focus always remains on her personal values, yes she cares about the group, and she would like if people went along with an agreed with her (who wouldn't?), BUT THE KEY DIFFERENCE IS, she is willing to do near anything to follow those values, even if it goes against the group dynamic and wishes, which is not something that comes as naturally to an Fe person. A prime example of this is the Painted Lady episode, but you can see seeds of that natural instinct in her from early episodes.

There's just an inner stubbornness to Katara that isn't really obvious in ESFJs, but is present in Fi types. She doesn't like conflict, but is willing to rock the boat, go against the tribe's wants, happy to in some cases, if she feels as though her values are not being respected.

We even see how she sometimes struggles to communicate her inner most feelings and desires to people (inferior Te), and goes solo or seeks support from someone she knows will support her, hence her strong relationship with Aang (who I believe is an ENFP and explains their relationship dynamic imo), and feeling of betrayal she feels when he occasionally does not. Exmaple being the Southern Raiders episode. And why Zuko in the same episode totally gets her, as an ISFP himself with the same savior and demon function of Fi Te.

Her weak Te also explains her rather childish but honestly completely relatable reactions to her brother who is clearly Te primary. She is a big picture idealist and he is an objective outcomes guy. She rejects reality to pursue her values, and dislikes her brother's sometimes cold impartial attitude.

And I think people conflate her talking about her mother's death, with her being vulnerable about it. But she often doesn't talk about her feelings or how it affected her, and definitely is NOT looking for people's input on how she should feel or think about it.

We know as the audience and it's clear based on her tone and body language, but she doesn't express her own feelings on it except for the rare occasions she is almost forced to, or feels like it will help her connect with someone. She just tells people what happened to her!! Classic Fi. People forget that Fi users are very emotionally private, and while they can be OUTWARDLY expressive (and that can be mistaken for emotional vulnerability), their most private and important feelings are their own, they want to protect them.

And I feel like the Ne and Si are pretty clear, like Katara is open to new experiences, sees potential in things, and gathers ideas to shape her values, but can be surprisingly rigid. Especially when she encounters things from her past which have hurt her (prime example being Zuko). Which can put her in the classic Fi Si grip.

TLDR; She's a big picture idealist who gets bogged down by the logistics of things, often not caring about the objective outcome more than doing what she thinks is right (which makes her butt heads with her brother). And while she cares about the group, her priority is not group harmony, her priority is her own values and whether or not those around her respect and understand that. And if they don't she pushes back. She is the character most true to herself and her values, even more than Aang sometimes. And that's why I think she is so strongly an INFP. I really REALLY don't see the ESFJ and it's weird that people type her as that so much...

If you STILL don't see it, please re-watch with a better understanding of the cognitive functions because just because she cares about the group, does NOT mean she puts the group first.

(Mis)Understanding Type 4 PT 2

Introduction 

This is a Rant/Informative post on how people misunderstand enneagram 4.  I would suggest checking enneagrammers type 4 section cuz its well written and its probably one of the best ways to clear allot of misunderstanding plus I'll be referencing it allot...like allot. ill go over some common mistypings ive seen around as well as misconceptions and certain nuances people often ignore. 

Every type is and wants to be special its not limited to E4. 

“4’s don’t want to be separate, they’re coming from a place of already being so. 4's are unaware of how to modulate themselves to anything if it contradicts their inner experience.” This often leads for people to not understand how type 4s work and end up mistyping others due to certain believe that wanting to be unique and special is SOLELY a type 4 trait. All enneatypes want to be special and stand out in their own way. Especially when it comes to attachment types because “Often the attachment types get stuck to the idea of being a 4 because they are dealing with a type structure that consciously fighting against the unconscious urge to actually be in sync with others.”

Some Misconceptions 

“Being candid about traumatic experiences (this can be anyone, but less likely a withdrawn type)

Self-deprecation (this is seen most often in 6's and 9's especially if there's 4 in the trifix, also 7w6)

Being artistic (any type can be artistic, 4's just have a specific aesthetic expression need that's tied into their type structure)

Being depressed (depression and/or sadness are emotions/conditions that can be experienced by all types, even bright 7's, and many 4's are not depressed at all)

Being moody/dramatic (4's do tend to be reactive and moody, but so do 6's and 7w8’s)

Being unique or weird (4's individuate constantly, but any type can do unique and strange things, ex. Lady GaGa is a 7, Björk is a 9)

Being overly emotional (all types have emotions, not all types identify with them, but type 6 as the most outwardly emotional type in some cases)

Enduring pain on the inside and having to smile on the outside (this is highly 9ish and not ever 4ish)

Feeling detached from mainstream things (this is true of 4, but any type can be sardonic and biting about "basic" people or mainstream things, type 6 for example can either be the one doing what everyone else is doing or the one who's sarcastically speaking out against it)

Fearing being flawed (4’s feel that the world is shallow and flawed and they are too deep for it, this creates a frustration and fantasy around their superior self-image)”

Mistyping 4s 

 When it comes to 3s- Two common mistyping when it comes to attachment types are Pearl (ESFP 3w2 so/sx) and Asuka Langley Soryu (ENTJ 3w4 so/sx) Being typed as  4w3 sx/so. Due to their need to stand out HOWEVER their need to stand out and be their BEST SELF Pearl being a Star who is seen as great and love by the public while Asuka being the best EVA Pilot and proving her competency. While a sx 4 would present an image of brokenness and sadness look at Prince Zuko for example (ISFP 4w3 sx/sp) he presents an Image of brokenness and constantly over indulges in anger and melancholy. Also Pearl and Asuka a wtihdrawn type...no. Both of these two are way too expressive to be 4s. Also very clear attachment types. In Asuka’s case we see she searches for love in being the best Eva pilot and creating interpersonal relationships in school while Pearl does this through status and becoming a Star.

When it Comes to 6s- a common mistyping I see its Mitski (INFP 6w5 sp/sx) Due to the self preservation 6 being on the most reserved side of things and both can complain allot due to both being in the reactive triad however when it comes to separating and differentiating these types is that a 6 is still craving connection (due to being an attachment type) and 4s are a rejection type while sure they want to make connection they might negate it all together. Also 6s are incredibly interested In problem solving and are interested in dissecting an issue while 4s dont really care about problem solving “However, 6's will still display a need for acceptance, a fear of being cast away, and they will emphasize how different/problematic they are as if it's a problem/danger to be put on the table right away. Even when 6's are at their most negative, they still tend to be funny and likeable.”

When it comes to 7- I typed Jules Vaugh as a 4 in my ENFP characters post and I might go back on that however for a very clear mistyping of a 7 as a 4 is Laurie “Theodore” Lawrence from little woman 2019. In my opinion Laurie is a ISFP 7w6 sx/so rathe than a sp 4w5. The differences between 4 and 7 are a bit more notable even tho both of them are frustration types. 7s tend to be highly positive individuals who are constantly looking for good expiernces and understanding of the world. 4s on the other hadn't complain about what they don't have and focuses on the negative aspects more. 4s are withdrawn types while 7s are positive types. I just dont get how Laurie is a 4 im sorry. I thought his journey was very clear that Amy pushed him to integrate to his 1 while he was wasting his life and talents. it

 Comes to 9s- This is probably the most continuous out of the previous type you'll notice that most 4s in media are probably mistyped 9s (I myself mistyped Amanda Young From the Saw Franchise as a 4w3 when it makes more sense for her to be a 9w8 sx/sp) But the most common mistypings ive seen in this case is Wanda Maximoff (INFP 9w8 sx/sp) and Camille Preaker (INFP 9w8 sx/sp) Mostly you'll see them typed as 4w5 sp/sx or sx/sp in Wanda’s Case. 4s tend to hate masking their disdain for things and others while 9s tend to present a more calm exterior. In the case of Camille and Wanda both Sx 9s they care about interpersonal relationships and dont have the boundry in interpersonal relationship 4s have. They see themselves as specially unique in comparison to orders. Due to being in the gut type 9s are prone to anger and tend to struggle with this. A thing we see with Wand and Camille struggle with. Both of them go into a haze of sort when it comes to dealing with problem rather than dealing with them like any assertive type like 4 would. Also it's very clear that both of them are attachment types not frustration types. 

There are some other mistyping such as 8 vs 4 but I just think that’s plain misunderstanding.

Huo Lingxin was born on June 3, 2002 in Tianjin, China. The youngest of four children, he recalls that growing up, he often felt pressured to measure up to the expectations of his family. All of his siblings excelled in school, and his sister Yazhu, older than him by nine years, was well on her way to law school before he turned 16. Meanwhile, Lingxin struggled academically, finding the material repetitive and unappealing. If he didn’t have the patience for a subject, he simply didn’t put any effort into it. The one area he excelled in was music.

Seeking a way to share his talents, Lingxin turned to NetEase Cloud Music, uploading the single 伤害 (Hurt) in August 2017, when he was just 15 years old. He hoped to gain an audience, but he would be disappointed—the song barely accumulated any streams. While it was discouraging, it wasn’t enough to stop him. Later that year, Lingxin released another single titled 无辜 (Innocent) and created accounts on several social media platforms to promote his music, slowly building a small following. 

His first taste of success would come in May 2018 with the release of his first extended play 到处 (Everywhere). The EP contained five tracks, including his two previously released singles. One song in particular, 失踪 (Missing), gained attention for its production and thoughtfully written lyrics, racking up a few thousand streams within a month of its release. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t much, but it was more than Lingxin had ever dreamed of. Gradually, his audience grew. 

Two more EPs followed: 機會 (Opportunity) in October 2018 and 运气 (Luck) in March 2019. While both were fairly successful, it was the former that got the most attention—not only from fans, but also from a startup record label. A representative from the A&R division at XGN Music Group heard Lingxin’s music and reached out, wondering if he was looking to sign to a label. Lingxin had a dilemma—would taking such a big step in his music career mean disappointing his parents? They knew that he was passionate about music, but they weren’t aware that he had been taking so much time to work on it, often prioritizing it over school. It didn’t seem like a good idea to tell them, but he couldn’t exactly hide a record deal. He had to tell them about the offer.

When Lingxin told his parents what he’d been doing, they were frustrated—not by the offer or his success, but by the fact that he had gone behind their backs. Neither had the heart to try and stop him from making music, though, not when he loved it so much. They eventually came to an agreement: Lingxin could continue to pursue a career in music on the condition that he finish high school and make improvements in his grades. It would be difficult, but he could do it. He had to.

Lingxin signed with XGN Music Group in May 2019. Focusing on his schoolwork as he’d promised, he only released two singles between May and November 2019, both of which performed fairly well for a new artist. It was in December that his career would take an unanticipated turn.

In December 2019, Lingxin crossed paths with aspiring songwriter Sugihara Ishi for the first time. She’d come to XGN from Japan, a short journey by the rules of time but a long way to come to pursue a music career, especially at such a young age. Sure, Lingxin and Ishi were both 17, but their experiences were different—he could make music without leaving his city, and she had left her country. But Ishi had her reasons, and what really interested Lingxin was her music. As she played for him the first song she’d ever recorded, なみ (Wave), he took note of its intricate composition. He couldn’t understand the words, but he didn’t need to. The melody was beautiful, and it resonated with him deeply, reaching past language barriers and into his heart. 

That quality was missing in his music, Lingxin realized—the power to reach people who didn’t speak his language, to touch others’ hearts without words. Ishi had shown him that music itself was a language, and it was one that came to her so naturally. Filled with admiration, he could not feel more than the slightest tinge of envy. He wanted to learn from her, to work with her, and the moment that she agreed was one of the happiest moments of his life. They released a single together in February 2020, and they would go on to debut in April as the duo XINSHI.

Hi :P I saw matchups were open and I'm sooo fixated on JJBA so why not, if thats ok :D. I don't really label myself for gender (Just he/she prns womp womp) OR sexuality, but I like men.. LOL. My mbti is INFP I think. I honestly just did a test, but I think I bullshit enough to seem extroverted... Small talk king mayhaps....? I think the point where you two would really bond is your love of the arts and creative flair. He also has an artistic nature, which shows in his hamon technique, the bubbles being gorgeous and effective. His passion for what he does definitely resonates with your own. Also, cooking, I have no doubt in my mind that he can cook well and would love to be in the kitchen with you, he wants to assist, but if that's not your jam, then observing at the bare minimum.

He will totally talk shit with you, whenever you want. Dates or dinners together are always great because he gets to see you and he gets an update on recent drama.

In Defense of Fanny Price

“I was quiet, but I was not blind.”

Back in April, I wrote a post called “Which Austen Heroine Am I?” and I explored which of Austen’s heroines I was most like. I always viewed myself as an Elinor Dashwood from “Sense and Sensibility.” I did one of those Myer-Brigg’s tests and came out as an INFJ-T and according to a friend’s blog, my closest Austen match was Fanny Price, who was an INFP. I was surprised and in a little bit of denial. Fanny Price is generally everyone’s least favorite Austen heroine. She’s not a bad character, or badly written, nor is there anything really objectionable about her. In comparison to Austen’s other livelier heroines, she is meek, she cries a lot, she’s really religious, and she loves a pedantic, unlikable doofus, who throughout most of the book is chasing after someone else. Often in adaptations, her personality and motives are completely altered to make her more interesting to modern audiences. Many, including myself for the longest time, couldn’t understand why Fanny refused accept the charming Henry Crawford’s marriage proposals.

 I recently re-read “Mansfield Park” and paid close attention to Fanny. Her disposition, her beliefs, her entire history. Oh my, oh my, oh my. It was like meeting a 19th century version of my teenage self…well, except for her history. My history is completely different; I had a very normal, loving, and supportive family, but you understand what I mean. Like Fanny I was shy/meek, I cried A LOT, and I was really religious. Thankfully I never fell in love with someone who chased after another. I’m not sure how I could have missed it, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m a Fanny Price and upon closer inspection, I believe she is one of Austen’s strongest and bravest heroines. She may be meek, but she is not weak.

 Early on in the novel, Fanny is taken from her impoverished family – who don’t seem to care that she leaves – and brought to live with her aunt and uncle Bertram, and her cousins at the grand estate of Mansfield Park. Though she is brought up alongside her cousins, she is continually reminded by everyone that she is not on their level, and that she is lucky to be there, and to never forget her place. From Austen’s descriptions and Fanny’s words and demeanor, we can see she is beaten down by life and her relatives, others fight her battles for her, and from her nervousness, it’s debated if she has an anxiety disorder – another thing I have in common with her. At least, from 21st standards, it appears she might. In other scenes, her health doesn’t seem strong. She is not a walker; her only form of exercise is horse riding; the heat overwhelms her; physically she is limited. She becomes a companion of sorts to Lady Bertram, and though her aunt cannot do without Fanny’s devotion, love is not exactly extended. Fanny has her own place of refuge in the attic, away from the rest of her family, where she can read, reflect, and pray.

Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram are not bad people, but they are not great parents. They give their children everything they need except for sound moral instruction. Only the younger son Edmund finds the right path, chooses to become a clergyman when he is older, and he is the only one to show Fanny true kindness and friendship throughout the whole of the book. Fanny falls in love with Edmund…who in turn falls in love with the fashionable, witty, and morally bankrupt Mary Crawford. Mary and her brother Henry come to live in the neighborhood and everyone likes, respects, and adores them. Except for Fanny. Quiet, meek, submissive Fanny isn’t fooled by their niceties or their behavior. She knows they’re bad news and while Sir Thomas Bertram is away in Antigua, the Crawford siblings turn Mansfield Park upside down with their enthusiasm for participating in a questionable play. Henry Crawford shockingly flirts with the Bertram ladies, including the newly engaged Maria Bertram.

 Everything is set to rights when Sir Thomas Bertram returns to Mansfield Park. Maria is married off to a wealthy but foolish man…and Henry sets his sights on Fanny. Originally, he plans to make a small hole in Fanny Price’s heart, but soon believes himself in love with her. Despite her rejections, he is determined to marry her, going as far as to enlist his sister, Edmund, and Sir Thomas Bertram’s assistance. Mary Crawford hopes that Fanny will “fix” Henry; reform him; be his moral center. The Bertram’s believe marriage to Henry will be a step up socially for Fanny. Henry helped her brother William; he could help her other siblings and parents, taking the burden off of the Bertram’s. Henry’s former bad boy behavior /flirtation with Maria is forgotten – he is that well-liked. And you know what, as a reader, it can be easy to be taken in by Henry Crawford. There is a part of me that hopes he will turn his life around and become a better man, and be worthy of Fanny. It is believed that Jane Austen’s sister Cassandra wanted this too, that she wanted Fanny to end up with Henry and reform him. But Jane Austen was adamant and way more astute than I am at times. I’m sure she encountered her share of Henry Crawfords in life, enough so to accurately portray such a charming man on the page.

As I mentioned above, Fanny is criticized for not only refusing Henry Crawford. Henry is likeable, charming, thoughtful, and wealthy. He notices Fanny’s self-worth when others overlook it, he helps promote her brother William advance in the navy, he claims he is willing to change for her and become a better man. How could she not like or love, or be willing to marry him after all he did for her? Fanny tells her uncle, “I—I cannot like him, sir, well enough to marry him.” This line struck a chord with me. I’ve lost count the number of times people have tried to set me and I’ve refused. Why? He’s nice, he's good looking, he’s kind, he’s a Christian…Why won’t you go out with him? Like Fanny, people think because I’m nice, polite, and a Christian means I should be willing and perhaps grateful to go out with So-and-So. It’s harder when So-and-So has perhaps done something nice for you. Just because Henry Crawford (So-and-So) did something nice for Fanny (me) or treated her with kindness, doesn’t mean she (I) owe him marriage (a date). Obviously, I’m projecting my own struggles onto this 19th century heroine/situation, but I get it. Fanny doesn’t like Henry, she doesn’t trust him, she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t want to marry him, she doesn’t owe him herself no matter how charming or kind he is. She shouldn’t be condemned for telling a man “no.” If we applaud Elizabeth Bennet of “Pride and Prejudice” for telling Mr. Collins – a man she doesn’t like, respect, or love - no, then we must applaud Fanny Price too.

Something I noticed in my re-reading of “Mansfield Park” – Henry Crawford does help William Price, for Fanny’s sake. He was being thoughtful and generous, however he did so to be able to publicly show off how kind he was being and to make Fanny feel obliged to him. He told everyone and their brother what he did for William. Contrast that with Mr. Darcy in “Pride and Prejudice” – when Darcy discovers Lydia in London and arranges it for her to be married to Wickham, then pays off Wickham’s numerous debts and gives Wickham 10,000lbs to marry Lydia, it is done with no strings attached. Darcy has no plans to ever tell Elizabeth or the Bennet family what he did. He did it simply because he loved Elizabeth and he wanted to spare her and her family from suffering. It is also disturbing that Henry Crawford does not take Fanny’s no for an answer. “No” does not mean “I must persevere and change her mind” – no means no.

 To remind her of where she came from, and perhaps reconsider Henry Crawford’s proposal, Fanny is sent to her parents’ home in Portsmouth. She is astonished by how the Price’s live, and though she attempts to help, and guide her younger sister Susan onto a better path, she yearns for Mansfield Park. However, even when he visits at one point, she doesn’t regret turning down Henry’s marriage proposal. Despite all opposition and all arguments, the meek and mild Fanny stands firm. No one supports her decision, she has no friends outside of her family or their social circle that try to understand her position, and even the man she loves tries to cajole her into marrying Henry. Fanny is alone yet determined to follow her conscience. Which is why I consider her one of Austen’s strongest heroines.

 Through a newspaper, Fanny and her parents learn that her married cousin Maria leaves her husband and runs off with Henry Crawford. Fanny, with Susan in tow, returns to Mansfield Park. Edmund finally sees Mary Crawford for what she really is and in a very short and unfulfilling romance (which is like a paragraph long), he and Fanny marry.

 I will never understand why, or how, Fanny could love Edmund Bertram and it’s not because of them being cousins (still ewww). Edmund, though kind to Fanny, loves and pursues Mary Crawford for most of the book and at the end, we’re left with the impression he “settles” for Fanny. Fanny and Edmund’s romance is never shown, we just know it happens. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons generations of readers find “Mansfield Park” unsatisfying. We think Fanny deserves better – she deserves someone who adores her. Then again, I suppose we can’t help who we fall in love with. Fanny loved Edmund and in the end after years of struggle and pain, she got her happy ending.

So, I have come away with a new appreciation for Fanny Price. She’s still not my favorite Austen heroine, but I can respect her and can accept the similarities of our personalities.

I ship you with Wanda! As you described yourself as soft and gentle, who doesn’t like confrontations, I think you need someone who will help you grow, while also being kind about it. Some say opposites attract, but that isn’t always the case. Wanda is also an INFP - but she has strong morals and she’s very powerful. So you get the best of both worlds!

Bias ramblings

I think it’s fascinating how we all have biases for or against certain cognitive functions in other people that we are not even aware of. When I take a look at my bookshelves, about 80% of the books in there were written by ESTPs and ENTPs, while only two(!!) books in there were written by FPs. The rest were written by ESFJs, some TJs and INTPs, but the INTP stories always feel like there’s something missing. I love how I can always very quickly tell if a story was written by an FP just by the way that the characters interact because viewing them through the lens of Fi feels so foreign that the story might as well have been created by aliens. And it’s interesting how that correlates with the disconnect I experience between me and most FPs, especially ISFPs, in real life. It’s nothing personal, it’s not like we dislike each other. We are just aliens to one another. I love a lot of FP musicians, but the ones that can make me cry are the ESTP ones, when yet another one of them writes a song that is created from Se and Fe and they sing about how this life was meant to be experienced together and that we are all one and that whenever something’s wrong, we are all going to be there for you, you are always going to find a home in us. This is love, this is safety. I’m a sucker for the word “we”, I’m an FJ after all. And my ESFJ mother has this same bias. Every FP she meets, there’s going to be a clash. I remember a time, when we were in a group of an ESFJ, ISTP, INTJ, ENFP and me as an INFJ, but it didn’t feel like a group because ENFP kept pulling someone aside to talk to them privately, thus creating a boundary between her and the rest of us, making us all feel like individuals surrounded by people. And my ESFJ mother lost it, and the only ones who could understand it were ISTP and me, the two other Fe users. This same ISTP is one of the chillest people you can imagine, but whenever he meets a TJ, he wants nothing to do with them, preferably never see them again. But this is his personal bias. I also know an ISTP who is married to an ESTJ. Likewise, my ISFP stepmother has a great dislike against FJs, meanwhile my ISFP and ESFJ friends are the most perfect couple you could meet. So these biases are not the same for everyone sharing the same MBTI type. We form these biases on our own, though I don’t really know how. My bias against Fi makes no sense when you consider that my best and oldest friend is an ESFP and I’ve known her for as long as I can remember, though I do remember us mutually hating each other when we met when we were three. One of my other closest friends is an INFP, yet 90% of FPs I meet feel like aliens that drain my energy, while the other 10% (typically ENFPs) are the ones that decide to adopt me 0.5 seconds after meeting me. Why are we always drawn to the same group of MBTI types and why is it not always mutual? NFPs gravitate much more toward me than I to them. I’ve been asked out by a couple of ENTPs, but in the end they always tell me that we are too different people, even when I don’t think so. TJs like me and I like them, but a proper mutual fondness only develops with the NTJs. When I first met my ENTJ friend, we were in a group with an ESFP and an ISFP, and the only one that got on fine with each of us was ESFP, but it was ENTJ and I that stared at each other and both of us immediately went “oh! I choose this one, this one is friend-shaped.” A lot of ESTPs tend to be quite fond of me and I like them, but the fondness usually isn’t mutual. ESFJs and I are never a problem, but somehow we never end up being close friends, despite getting on very well. Which reminds me of my ESFP friend who is very attracted to Se in other people and frequently crushes on other SFPs, but it never amounts to anything more than one or two dates. There’s simply not enough of a difference between them. Being too similar to each other doesn’t work for relationships. Humans need diversity, which is why you will never find the same MBTI type within the same nuclear family, not even in identical twins. Literally all STJs I know absolutely hate meeting other STJs. It’s a blind hatred toward one another from the very beginning for absolutely no reason other than recognising a piece of them selves in the other. And even in movies, where a couple of (casting) directors artificially orchestrate family/friend/relationship dynamics, it’s incredibly rare to find a movie couple that’s played by two actors of the same type. But there are biases in casting choices, too. There are so many ENTP writers/showrunners/directors that will almost always cast ENTPs as their lead actors. Some tv shows are completely overrun by FJ actors or SP actors etc. that it simply cannot be a coincidence. Whenever there’s more than two intuitives on a cast, the project is usually run by an intuitive themselves. 

What I’m trying to say is: we are all biased in our relationships with other people in a very systematic way, and I personally believe that we tend to be drawn to those types and cognitive functions that provide a good balance to us. Why has my ESFJ mother married two Ti-doms? Because her own Ti is garbage and she needs someone to talk sense into her when she’s jumping to conclusions again. Why has my ESTJ friend befriended at least 8 intuitives that I know of (which is crazy)? Because she likes using Ne and they unlock the more fun part of her. Why does my ESTP friend have a whole collection of FJ friends? Because all these typical Fe behaviours, as she once said, make her feel warm and safe. Why do I get on so well with TJs? Because I’m an absolute loser at navigating the real world and don’t know how any of this works. It’s about balance.
