do you happen to know if Mando'a is based on Swahili or another central/west African language? Oya is “let’s go” in one of Nigeria’s languages and some of them use ‘ to denote a pause, oya is “no” in Kirundi which makes reading it funny because I have to translate it twice. If I was going to say Kote in English I’d say ko-t (rhymes with coat) but if I where to say it in Kirundi I’d say ko-ta which seems like what they say in the song? Anyway language is fascinating and Thank you for Bloodletting, the gift that keeps giving

I don’t believe it’s based on any language in particular but I could be wrong. I always wondered if it borrowed a little from Hebrew, actually, since they also use ‘ to indicate pauses. And there’s a few similar words (Jerusalem in Hebrew is Yerushalayim, which I always think about when I write Manda’yaim) too.

That’s super interesting about Oya and Kote! I believe in canon, the former is pronounced the way you would in English, while the latter is pronounced “kohhh-tay”

Hi. So, those of you who have been following me may already know the financial struggles I've had in the past, but the situation has become much more dire. So, I started a gofundme so that if I raise any money, it is publicly displayed.

I don't really expect anything but I do have to try. I took a job that is commission based after I was laid off from my editing job, but that it is not high paying nor is it reliable because it is commission based only. The money I make from this job will never be enough for me to live off of.

I am also, of course, actively searching for other jobs but things are so competitive and also barely pay a living wage.
