just gonna rant about fanon sirius real quick don’t mind me & my rapid descent into incoherency. everything’s under a cut bc this serves no purpose.

i fucking hate when he’s conceptualised as this dramatic, over-the-top-angry, unreasonable manchild. actually, no. even one of those traits for him annoys me so much. people can write him however they want but atleast have the decency to slap an ooc tag on it if ur gonna butcher him that badly because he’s !!! not !!! like !!! that !!!

the only time he shows an ounce of ‘melodrama’ (and i have issues w that term) is during the shrieking shack which he waited over a dozen years for in hellish conditions. he’s probably starving, half delusional, and definitely a combination of angry and terrified out of his mind. he’s been single-mindedly focused on one task, has probably used it to fuel himself through all material and psychological obstacles, and now that it’s in front of him, of fkn course he’s not gonna wait around for tea and crumpets to be served.

every other instance we have of sirius is him being cool, collected, logical, and rational as fuck. i recently read the ‘padfoot returns’ chapter in gof for mc purposes and by god, i fell in love with him all over again. he’s so terrifyingly competent?? the way he’s gone through some of the most horrific trauma in the entire series, and his mind is still so sharp? his memory is impeccable? the way he joins dots and comes to conclusions? not just that, but he’s one adult who listens to and trusts the trio, treats them like children with the weight of the world on their shoulders, actually seems to see them without rose tinted glasses on.

and his entire speech about crouch/the ministry/snape???? this is not someone who mindlessly hates slytherins. fucking hell, he was giving snape the benefit of the doubt in that chapter. ‘i don’t think dumbledore would hire him if he was really on the other side’ (paraphrased) and this is where he makes the point about observing how someone treats their inferiors. sirius has so many layers and he’s such a complex character and he’s so wonderful in his own right it annoys me sm to see him dumbed down into this- not even 2D but massively ooc version of him. and again, like, i don’t mind ooc at all. i read tons of ooc character fics! it’s great and super fun! but for the love of god tag it that way.

and back to the being dramatic thing. this man lived in the same set of tattered robes, in caves, feasting on rats, generally not giving a single fuck. he tore chicken straight off the bone. lived on the run, breaking into people’s houses and roaming around as a dog. he’s not going to freak out over a broken nail or shriek or jump around for anything. when faced with a hostile molly weasley or a curious harry asking about his family (a sensitive topic) he chose to rely on cool answers and clipped tones, not outward explosions of anger. ugh. so much nuance, and it’s all gone just like that.

also adding on to this to say—he doesn’t even show that much anger or bitterness. my man literally forgave everyone who turned on him in a second. he literally didn’t blink before hugging remus. where are people getting some ideas of him from 😭😭

Things I don’t get about the marauders fandom as someone who’s been obsessed with them for literal years

1. How we let so many characters be only children?? like I get that people don’t necessarily want to make OCs but HOW did it get to this? James, Marlene, Peter, Remus, Mary, Barty, Dorcas, Alice, Frank and so many others! Idk maybe it’s just where I’m from but look me in the eyes and tell me you know that many people who don’t have siblings ALSO the ratio is so off and barely any of them have only child energy. It’s just not right.

2. How sooo many of you aren’t multi shippers. Like what do you MEAN you can only see James with Regulus and Regulus with James?? What about bartylus? what about sunrose? what about draksun/sunkiller? what about moonwater? what about jily? what about prongstail? WHAT do you read?? Aren’t you bored??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN you only have ONE ship for each character???? As a multi shipper, I can be convinced of any ship with anything ranging from a real good fic or a pretty edit to an enthusiastic rant from a random person on TikTok and it just makes things interesting. Maybe my adhd brain just needs more ships to focus on or maybe some of you just lack flexibility ( or imagination), but we need to fix this cause there aren’t enough fics with the ships I like 😭😭

3. THE SHIP NAMES. I can’t be the only one who thinks some of these suck right? Like why are we saying jegulus when starchaser and sunseeker are RIGHT THERE?? Same with jily and flowerpot, and bartylus and starkiller. ALSO some names make me wonder if some of you just haven’t grasped the concept of ship names or if I just got it all wrong cause marylily and jegulily are just annoying, why are we keeping the L in Lily? The point is to merge the names together not stick them one beside the other, I just say marily and jeguily because it rolls off the tongue so much more easily

4. The Peter erasure. I just don’t get it, it’s so easy to include him in things, you don’t have to make him a main character, but just mention him every once in awhile. Sometimes I’m reading an important scene in a fic and everyone is mentioned EXCEPT for Peter! It’s so easy, just make him roll his eyes at his friends being idiots or something. And it’s not like you’ll get his personality wrong, ALL THESE CHARACTERS PERSONALITIES WERE MADE UP BY FANS but I understand that some people lack imagination so here’s some things about Peter I like to imagine: he’s a HUGE gossip, like my man sees and hears everything and he takes notes!! He likes to randomly turn into a rat and take a nap in one of the other marauders’ pocket, he does it so much that they had to tell the girls that they had a pet rat cause they were asking too many questions. He’s really perceptive and his friends are all oblivious so it leads to funny scenarios like:

Remus & Sirius after YEARS of pining: we’re dating

Peter: I thought you guys had been together since third year?

Sirius: I’ve literally introduced you to people I was dating?!

Peter, shrugging: look mate I don’t question you lot anymore, you do whatever you want, I don’t care what you’re into, I just don’t wanna know about it

He also pulls people, like he’s really nice and will gossip to anyone who’s in his vicinity so he’s friends with basically everyone and he’s funny and pretty and he’s got charisma so he just charms everyone and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, even the slytherins have a soft spot for him (that’s how he gets accepted among the death eaters during the war actually). In pranks he’s the lookout so he often has to distract the teachers so he asks them random things and spits out half-made up facts about anything so he’s besties with most of the teachers which means he doesn’t get many detentions.

5. The Black brothers, more specifically the way the speak to each other in most fics, like they call each other “brother” so often and as someone who has a brother I’ve never called him that. Is it an anglophone thing? Like do people who speak English at home all do that or are fic writers only children?? (That would explain my first point actually) Or is it more a rich people thin?? Cause I know it’s not a francophone thing that’s for sure (also special mention to people who don’t know anything about French writing Sirius and Regulus as French speakers, I can tell you don’t know what you’re writing about but I eat it up everytime anyway)

6. This is actually just about ao3 but I WANNA BE ABLE TO LEAVE MORE KUDOS!!! I just loooooove fics but I can’t leave kudos at every single chapter and I’m bad at writing comments so I can’t show the author how much I love their work, I hate itttt 😭

7. Why there aren’t more fics about the Black family, and not just Sirius and Regulus, but Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa as well like that would be so interesting and maybe like a deep dive into the Black family ideals and all that (if you have fic recs I’m all ears!!)

8. How jegulily is a pretty popular ship (which I LOVE) yet SO FEW people ship Regulus and Lily outside of it! They are a power couple and I love them and they don’t need James to work!!!

9. Why there isn’t more background Minnie x Poppy cause they are my mothers and I wanna see them moooooreeee

The girls around hogwarts loved him, until they found out what a total player he was. Many girls would cry over the heartbreak, some girls wouldn’t give a shit and never talk to him again. Some reckoned he was only like that because he was friends with Draco malfoy.

Y/n y/l/n. One of hogwarts most favourite students, y/n wasn’t one to hate on people but when it came to potter she couldn’t stand him, she promised herself she’d never EVER fall in love with someone like Harry.

“So what class have you got next, y/n” Hermione looked at her. “Oh I have char-” y/n not looking where she was going she bumped into someone, her books going everywhere. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going” she laughed awkwardly even before looking up and when she did, she wished she could take the apology back but she didn’t say anything.

“Oh it’s okay, not your fault” Harry had passed her books that he’d helped her pick up his friends not far behind him smirking at the both of them, he looked into her beautiful e/c eyes and smiled.

Y/n smiled as she walked off with Hermione, the slytherin boy just standing there.

“The Harry Potter just spoke to you!” Hermione squealed “did you see how he was looking at you? He was totally crushing!” Y/n looked at her best friend “he can crush all he wants, do you not know what he done to Ginny Weasley? He cheated on her with Cho Chang then he cheated on Cho for some other girl, how come you were so excited for him to speak to me? If you want him I’m sure he would snog wit-”

“Y/n! Gross anyways…Ron’s the one I like…what do you think I was doing why you and Harry were talking?” She shyly replied. Hermione wasn’t the kind of girl to fall for a boy then go blabbering on about it, she was very secretive with that kind of subject.

“Come on enough boy talk, flitwick will have our necks if we are late.” Y/n said walking a bit faster.

Later on.

Ron, malfoy, Harry, Blaise, Seamus, Dean. We’re all in the slytherin common room joking and laughing around. Malfoy then had said [this story there aloud in each others common room.]

“So potter, you looked real cozy with that hufflepuff girl, y/l/n? Was it.” Malfoy had lit up a cigarette. Ron turned over to Harry. “As in y/n? Blimey Harry” “we just bumped into eachother no big deal.”

“But she’s definitely not a big fan of you like most girls” Dean continued on. “Chang and Weasley basically told the entire school and rumour has it the golden girl of hufflepuff don’t like you, at all. No way she’d fall in love with you mate”

“Is that a challenge?” Harry smirked looking at Dean. “You don’t think I Can get y/n y/l/n to fall in love with me?” Harry sat up “okay I bet you all, I can make that girl fall in love with me.”

“And if you don’t.” Seamus Said, all boys now interested in this bet. “If I don’t I’ll jump in the black lake, naked.” “Alright, bet” Blaise said, Harry now lighting a cigarette.

The next day, Harry came down extra early making his way to the hufflepuff common room, waiting for y/n.

He had a cigarette in his mouth when She came out, her hair down and a bright smile on her face. “Y/l/n!” Harry shouted throwing the blunt on the floor and walking towards her.

She turned around “potter” he heard the annoyance in her voice. “You and me, date?” She rolled her eyes “yeah nice try, find another girl.” She walked off and he was left alone stood there.

Again the next day he came down waiting for her, she looked even more annoyed when she saw him. He took her books “what do you think your doing?” She said rolling her eyes. “Walking you to class, what does it look like?”

She smiled a little bit and she prayed that he didn’t see, but he did.

He did the same the next day. “Well I’m not surprised to see you here potter.” She said giving him her bag. He put it on his shoulder. “I want to get on a first name basis, if that’s okay with you?”

“Sure, I don’t see why not.” They walked to breakfast together. “So y/n. You gonna let me talke you on a date?” She looked down. She really wasn’t sure what to say. He didn’t do this for the others, maybe he was actually trying to keep a relationship.

“I don’t know” was all she said but Harry knew that he’d get the hufflepuff girl to fall in love with him with out falling in love with her.

Well, little did he know.

The weekend had come and Harry and y/n were in Harry’s dorm. “So what’s your favourite colour.” Harry asked randomly. “(Your favourite colour)” he nodded “ and food?” “(Your favourite food)” you were currently sitting at his desk why he was in his bed.

“Do you have a favourite colour?” Y/n asked looking at him. “Well I like red I suppose, and favourite food is Treacle Tart” y/n laughed at the way Harry licked his lips as he said it. “You know, I could get used to that, your laugh” Harry smiled at her.

She blushed a little.

“You want to make treacle tart?” Y/n offered, Harry’s eyes lighting up at the question, y/n being pushed down to the kitchen.

Y/n had started with the flour, salt and butter. Mixing it together with her hands, Harry standing behind her he put his hands in aswell helping her. Y/n slightly blushed but didn’t let him see. When they had done the pastry they started on the filling, then assembling the tarts and putting them in the oven.

Y/n cleaning up the flour on the side. Harry being Harry he took some and tapped her face. He laughed “oh really! Is that how you wanna be.” She giggled taking flour and chucking it all over him.

Y/n ran around the kitchen covered in flour and so did Harry but y/n was hiding and Harry was catching her. Quietly, Harry scared her casing her to scream and giggle. He pulled her in by her waist and looked down at her. He looked into those (e/c) eyes he adored so much.

Maybe he was falling for her after all.

After there fight they cleaned up the kitchen so the elf’s would have to, not even long after that the treacle tart was done.

Harry had taken it out the oven and he took one without waiting.

“This is the best treacle tart I’ve ever had, hands down.” He said smiling at her. She giggled as she wiped his lips with her thumb.

“It’s getting late” y/n said looking at the time. They were aware that they were out after hours but sneaking back was the problem. “It’s okay love, come on.” Harry had put the tarts on a plate and took one more before leaving the kitchen.

He took her up to the hufflepuff common room. “I’ll see you tomorrow” He smiled. She smiled back. “Yes. And you can take me on that date tomorrow night if you want.” Harry smiled, the bet had blown over him and all he cared about was her. “I’ll pick you up at seven”

She watched him leave before slipping into the common room, smiling as she walked to her dorm.

a/n- i had this idea in my head so i feel like this is no plot head empty vibes but its cute and i love bassist remus & will def write more of this universe

Watching them from the side stage will never get old, but there’s something about being in the actual crowd that you enjoy so much more. None of the boys have spotted you yet and understandably so. The crowd was thick but you’d still managed to get up pretty close to Remus’ side of the stage. 

You’d told him you were going to be late to the show mostly because you wanted to stay in the crowd tonight and not hear any of the guys’ bitching. They liked having you on the side stage so no crazy fans would bombard you and because they could easily see you. While you understood their testament, you also understood being a fan first. 

You showed up when the doors opened, grabbed your vip pass from the box office and headed to the crowd. Sadly for you the boy’s head security, Moody, spotted you and nearly dragged you backstage. You begged him to let you stay and he easily gave in to your puppy eyes and pouty lips. He led you closer to the barricade before heading back to his spot in front of the stage.

You pulled your phone out and skimmed your messages when you heard the girls beside you whispering quite loudly. You heard your name mentioned and glanced beside you. They shifted their eyes away and tried to play it off which made you laugh. You and Remus were pretty popular in the band's fanbase. You’d known the boys for ages and had even helped produce certain tracks with them. Their fans had coined you as the “it couple” of the band- Lily and James coming in a close second if not for their on again off again habit.

The said drummer and his girlfriend were enamored with each other and it seemed to bite them in the ass sometimes. You’re sure they would be the fans #1 otherwise. You weren’t sure why they loved you and Remus together so much. Part of you thought it’s because Remus is the supposed mysterious quiet one and you provide more content of him that they want to see. 

The girls were laughing nervously and you politely say hello and strike up conversation with them. You figure you’re going to be here all night and if you were them you’d want a nice interaction too. 

As the crowd files in and the room gets louder you completely befriend the girls. As you’re chatting about comfortable footwear for concerts you feel your phone buzz again. 

Remmy: Txt me when youre otw x 

You feel guilty for lying but you really did just want to watch the show from the crowd with no objections. You hear the crowd’s volume rise and realize the opener is heading on. You shoot back a quick ‘Ofc xx’ and shut off your phone. 

The girls you’ve attached yourself to smile and shout for the opener, and you can’t help but grin. Luckily not many other people have recognized you in the crowd and you feel a bit annoyed at the boys for thinking fans would ‘bombard’ you and not let you enjoy this.  

The opener is great and you all sing and dance along. They head off and you feel the crowd grow more intense awaiting the boys to come on. 

Sirius, the band’s frontman and lead vocals has been really entertaining the crowds this tour and you’re honestly proud of how well he’s been performing (and behaving). The boy’s have really grown into their roles and it’s amazing to see them all come together on stage. 

You’ve watched them go from recording in their dorm room all the way to renting studio time for weeks on end, and it’s bittersweet to see all these people here to support them. Your phone buzzes a few times and you wince as you read the messages. 

Remmy: Openers just finished

Remmy: Gotta turn my phone off soon, see you after?

Remmy: Be safe x 

As you read these another shoots through that doesn’t make you feel any better. 

Siri: quit making moony nervous

Siri: get here soon yeah

You sigh and tell yourself you’ll just stay in the crowd till the encore so you can see him before  they go back on. You shove your phone into your back pocket and glance around at the crowd again. 

The crowd cheers as the lights dim and you scream along. It feels so amazing to be a part of the crowd again and experience things as one. You can see their silhouettes moving across the stage and you grab the girl’s hand next to you and cheer along. 

When the lights fully illuminate on the stage the crowd erupts. You included. As you’re cheering you can’t help but laugh at Sirius’ smile. You see James wave as he moves to the drum set and Peter quietly moves to the guitar at the other end of the stage. Peter was always more quiet and just did what was suggested to him. It annoyed Sirius endlessly at times, but Peter seemed content staying out of the spotlight. 

Your face splits into a true grin when you see Remus adjust his bass and put his in-ears on. He’s laughing at something James said into the mic and Sirius rolls his eyes dramatically. James plays the opening sequence and the band plays one of their hits right off the bat. 

You’re shouting the lyrics along and feel fucking amazing being in the crowd again. The song comes to an end and the fans cheer enormously. Sirius laughs and addresses everyone, “What a good looking crowd here tonight, huh.” You laugh at his flirtatious self. Sirius makes conversation about the city and such but you're not paying much attention. Remus is messing with his tuning and chords and you can’t keep your eyes off him. He looks so fucking fit. His hair is messy and he’s flushed from the stage lights and you feel yourself falling in love with him all over again. 

The second girl you befriended shouts over to you, “Remus looks so cute!” You laugh and shoot back, “I know right!” 

The band starts the next song on the set list, a list you know all too well seeing as you helped create them for the shows. You dance along and lift your hands as you sing the words. The song comes to an end and the smile on your face hasn’t faltered once. As you glance at the boys again you feel eyes burning into you. When your vision passes over the middle of the stage James is sending you a shit eating grin. Fuck. He raises his brows at you and you shake your head back. You have no idea how he spotted you from his seat and you mentally curse him and his big ass glasses. 

He laughs but the next song starts and his attention is taken. You try and enjoy the song but you keep glancing at Remus to make sure James hasn’t said anything. As soon as the song ends you see James lean into the mic by his shoulder. You mouth ‘don’t’ at him but even if he saw it he doesn’t acknowledge it. You watch him speak into the mic and thankfully he’s spoken to the boys through the stage mic so the crowd hears nothing. You see Remus quickly glance to the side stage so you assume James mentioned your attendance, but not whereabouts. Then James opens his big mouth again and you see all four pairs of eyes move to you. 

Peter laughs lightly and Sirius huffs a laugh as he shakes his head. You finally glance to your boyfriend and send him a weak smile. You can’t read his expression but then Sirius occupies your attention, “Hope the crowd enjoys this next one.” He smirks at you as he also speaks into the stage mic and the opening chords to your personal favorite song of the band’s play. Of course. This song is rarely on the set list and now you understand what Sirius said into the mic. 

You try your hardest to just enjoy the song but Remus’ eyes haven’t left yours. You finally decide to not let them dampen your mood or your favorite song, so you scream the lyrics louder and hold your boyfriend’s eyes as you dance more sensually. He looks away clenching his jaw and you see James laugh at him from his drum set. Remus rolls his eyes at his best mate and finally cracks a small smile as he looks back at you. 

You smile back and the song ends. As he plays the closing chords he mouths ‘hello’ at you from the stage. You mouth it back and blush. 

The show goes on and thankfully the boys don’t bug you too much throughout. They keep sending you smirks and playful looks, but selfishly you think it’s more cool to experience it from the crowd. 

When you realize the next song is the last before the encore you turn to the girls beside you and say goodbye. You take a few pictures with them as the song starts and wave goodbye as you walk away. 

You maneuver your way through the crowd towards the security lined up by the backstage. You show them your pass and id and head to your normal side stage view. The song comes to an end and Sirius thanks the crowd for a wonderful show and the boys take their instruments off. 

They wait for each other and head over your way. You can’t help but bite your lip as Remus approaches you and takes out his in-ears. He’s more disheveled and sweaty from being on stage and he looks amazing. He smiles as he reaches you and tosses his head back lightly. You laugh and reach your arms out for him. 

He wraps you in a sweaty hug, but you don’t mind seeing as you got sweaty yourself in the crowd. 

“Pit monster herself,” Sirius laughs. 

“Piss off” you reply and roll your eyes. 

Remus hugs you closer and whispers into your ear, “Surprised me when I saw you down there.”

You sigh and respond, “I know, I’m sorry I didn’t say anything I kinda just wanted to be in the crowd for once again.”

He nods his head and presses his lips against your neck. “I’m just glad you’re here.” You blush at his words and he pulls out of the embrace. He keeps his arm around your shoulders as you address the rest of the guys. 

“Probably could’ve stayed there the whole time if James didn’t have such a big mouth.”

Said boy laughs and gives you a look of false confusion, “Oh, you saw that?” 

Sirius and Peter laugh and you feel Remus chuckle against you. “You’re such an idiot” you say to James. 

A techie comes around and announces a 2 minute warning for the boys. They all grab some water and head back to the stage. Remus leans down to kiss your lips when Sirius grabs his shirt collar, “No kisses for her.” You scoff and flip him off as he pushes Remus in front of him. Remus laughs and sends you a look of sympathy. 

The boys jog back onto stage and the crowd screams. Now you wish you’d have just stayed down there. As if he can read your thoughts Remus catches your eyes and you share a knowing look. 

The boys end the show with their most popular songs and it really is amazing. You dance and sing by yourself and watch the boys finish strong. They wave to the crowd and thank them and Remus is the first to head back to you. 

He loosely grabs your chin and lifts your face as he catches your lips. He kisses you sweetly and smiles against you. He lifts his head and looks down at you. “You did look hot in the crowd though.” You smile but it’s rudely interrupted when James says “Don’t give her ideas Moony.”

You shoot him a playful glare and the boys laugh at your expense.

Later that night at the afterparty you were checking your socials when you see the two girls you met in the pit post the pictures of you all. They were honestly so cute, so you like and repost them. You’d had a bit to drink and were feeling ballsy so you figured might as well follow them and commnet. You left a sweet ‘these are so cute dm me them!!’ on one and ‘thanks for making me feel normal and not like a loner in the pit tn’ on the other. You laugh as people start to respond to the comments and fans realize you were in the crowd tonight. 

“Maybe you should stay in the crowd more often.” Remus muses from over your shoulder reading the comments as well. “Hmm. I feel like I’ve been saying that for awhile” you tease. He smiles at you and catches you in another kiss. “Just don’t tell Sirius” he laughs. “God, never” you respond. 

He grabs your hand and you dance, together, Remus pressing kisses into you wherever he can.

Rant

Regulus Black is only excused for being a dumb Wizard Nazi because he's a rich Pure-Blood with a hot fancast. There is no evidence to suggest he was abused, that's fan theory. In fact, it is canon that Walburga and Orion openly preferred Regulus wayyy more than Sirius and made it obvious. Snape on the other hand is a poor Half-Blood, and people insert his golden era personality and slap it onto a fucking 11 year old, it's laughable.

Same with Narcissa Malfoy, she wasn't this timid abused submissive wife, she was canonically described as haughty, elitist and looked as though she had dung under her nose, but just because she didn't give Harry away, people put her on a ridiculous pedestal. People don't realize she only didn't snitch because she cared about her son, if Harry said no, she would've revealed it.

Marauders Stans go nuts for people only mentioned one time lmaoo and get mad if you don't ship Dorlene or Rosekiller (Ex. Marlene McKinnon, Dorcas Meadowes, Mary MacDonald and Evan Rosier, forgive my autistic ass if I forgot someone)

Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr. are not any better than Snape, Avery or Mulciber, the difference is that their names are more appealing than Snape, Avery or Mulciber.

I am sure Sirius was being sarcastic when he said 'The Ancient and Most Noble House of Black' if not, I bet only the Black Family called themselves that shit, I can't imagine Lucius Malfoy agreeing to call them that before he met Narcissa.

Oh yes, the boy who could bully his dad into smuggling a broom and persuade his daddy to buy brooms for the entirety of the Slytherin Quidditch Team was a bullied baby boy. ⭐ l o g i c ⭐ But seriously, by taking away the Malfoys selfish love for each other, you are essentially ripping away their only redeeming quality.

Also, I don't think Draco needs a redemption arc, his character is VERY realistic of a coward and that's what makes him compelling as a character. Lots of Nazi Youth never fully redeemed themselves in a full out battle by betraying the SS Officers, Draco is a realistic interpretation of that. Draco is not inherently evil, but he is too much of a coward to take his redemption arc.

Wolfstar Stans are the most annoying motherfuckers to grace this earth.

'Marauders vs Snape rivalry was balanced' okay, so two rich pure-blood Gryffindors (James and Sirius) plus their two cronies (Remus and Peter) vs some random Half-Blood poor slytherin is equal somehow? Only Lily ever stood up for him, Snape's 'friends' did fuck shit about his problems, I don't recall a scene where Lucius Malfoy, Avery or Mulciber stood up against the Marauders for Snape. He quite literally only had one prefect girl standing up for him against four teenage asshats.

Wolfstar and Jegulus don't have chances of happening. James quite literally hates Slytherins, even suggesting he'd leave if he was ever sorted there, and Jegulus is just fanon writers excuse to have Wolfstar happen by making James go after Regulus Black of all people. If Sirius is gay for anyone, it's James. Literally, if it was between James and Remus, Sirius is gonna choose James no matter what, for Remus, if it's between James and Sirius, he's gonna choose James, even Peter would probably choose James. James is the glue of the friendship, if James isn't there during the marauders era, I doubt Sirius, Remus or Peter would have many meaningful outings.

Marauders being feminists is stupid. They are the embodiment of toxic masculinity if you ask me, even Snape is more likely to be a feminist than the Marauders.

Marauders fancasts are goofy as hell, Andrew Garfield looks nothing like Remus, ATJ looks nothing like James, and Dane is most certainly not Peter (He's canonically plus-sized), I personally don't fancast Ben Barnes as Sirius but I can see why others do.

I read a Harry Potter Confession Post that I wholehartedly agree with; Mrs. Rowling spent too much time making Narcissa a Malfoy that she forgot she was originally a Black. To be fair, I don't think she was planning on making Cissy and Sirius cousins when she was first introduced in Goblet of Fire, but there isn't much explanation to why she was named after a flower instead of a constellation. Mrs. Rowling makes this mistake to a lesser extent with Walburga Black.

I’ve decided that my WIPs should be somewhere. This is wolfstar, modern au (where Sirius and James have a tiktok account). It was supposed to be multi chaptered (basically just gonna be Wolfstar doing couples trends on tiktok, but they’re not actually together yet), but I only fully completed the first chapter. But it’s just rotting away so here, it’s about 1k.

Their video went viral two months ago. Sirius and James precariously attempted to pet a pigeon. Gotta give the guy credit, Pete’s great at dares. 

He recorded it all, planning to use it to blackmail the two in the future. Nothing like friendly bullying between mates. And he got some good footage, a pigeon did fly in James’ face and Sirius stepped in poop, but then Remus just had to help.

He went to the shop and grabbed some bread. So they could lure a pigeon in. And in a shocking turn of events, they managed to pet one eventually. 

They posted the video as a joke.

It took the algorithm only a few weeks to hit all the UK uni students currently withering away behind their desks.

And soon Pads and Prongs went viral. 

And so as James and Remus crashed through uni, Pete cruised through his internship as a sous chef, and Sirius desperately search for artistic inspiration, they kept an online presence too.

Sirius and James documented their crazy days of boring work and painting, and entertained their fans with late night lives at their flats and short tiktok clips of dumb pranks. James’ hair was pink for a week. It was hilarious.

The internet was quick to fall in love with James’ long distance relationship with Lily. Pete popped up to show off his cooking sometimes. Remus appeared in the background sometimes. Sirius finds it unbelievable that he hasn’t realised how much the tiktok book girlies already love him. 

And that’s what lead to last night. The marauders, a nickname from school and therefore an embarrassing inside joke, are all huddled in the small living room of James and Sirius’, eating Pete’s cake and cuddled under blankets. Their live and just chatting with the fans, relating over awful projects and difficult teachers. 

“Not that this cake isn’t amazing, but does anyone want actual food? I could order takeaway since clearly none of us want to get up and make shit.” It’s a good suggestion from James, but Sirius isn’t really hungry.

“Yeah i’d have food mate.” Remus agrees and then so does Pete. 

“I’m good i’m not hungry.” James shoots him a vaguely sceptical look, and asks him if he’s sure.

“Yes i’m sure James.”

They decide on simple fish and chips. Usually they get something, as James would say, with more taste. But the chippies the only place that’ll bring them food and not take more than two hours. It is a Friday after all. 

Since they’re using James’ phone for the live, Remus takes his phone out and takes Pete and James’ order.

So they continue along chatting and rather quickly the questions about Remus, who’s been pretty quiet all evening, increase from about 50% of the comments to 75%. 

“Just appease them a bit Lupin.” Remus glares at James for that. 

“I have no clue what the people on your phone want to know about me James.”

Remus has a tendency to refer to technology as if he’s a grandpa who understands nothing beyond a radio. Sirius has heard people call it annoying but really it’s just endearing. At least to Sirius.

“How about that book you read Moony? Red, White and Royal Blue? Apparently you were caught making some choice expressions while reading in the background of me and James’ last tiktok. Did you like it?”

Remus gives him a disapproving look, likely annoyed at Sirius’ question. Apparently books need more detail than just a simple, yes it was good, or no it was not.

“Well… okay do your phone people really care about my opinion?” Remus turns to James. He replies that yes they obviously do. The comments are going crazy over having Remus’ attention.

“Fine. I enjoy Casey McQuiston’s writing style. I thought it was entertaining and I really liked how Alex and Henry complimented each other. Henry was able to calm Alex and Alex’s able to reason with Henry when he’s struggling.” 

Sirius looked blankly at Remus.

“Oh come on Moons. You spent like 2 hours explaining the whole book in depth and going on and on about your favourite characters and lines. Your book is annotated all over. At least share with the audience your favourite quotes.”

Remus sighs beside Sirius. Sirius really wants to hear these though. Remus seemed to love the book and Sirius often finds listening to him describe something he loves is always majestic. He details it all with elegant words until you’re eating out the plan of his hand. 

“I guess I thought it was pretty funny when Nora said, How did I know I was Bi? I touched a boob. Wasn’t that profound.”

“Remus.” Sirius whines.

“Oh fine. There’s a tone of quotes from that book I love. There’s I love him on purpose. Or he tells his too fast brain: don’t miss it this time, it’s too important. I- erm- I guess I also kind of love this thing Henry says, it’s like And I thought if someone like that ever loved me, it’d set me on fire. But then I was a careless fool and fell in love with you anyway.” Remus has not taken his eyes of Sirius once as he quotes this beautiful book. How does he remember those lines just of the top of his head?

“You know what though,” His voice takes on a soft tone. The one he reserves for kids, animals, things he loves, and sometimes Sirius. If he’s in a good mood. “my favourite, has got to be When have I ever, since the very first instant I touched you, pretended to be anything less than in love with you?” Remus’ eyes are rich and deep and chocolate. Sirius wants to paint them. 

“Moony!” James interrupts their eye contact. “Now they’re all gonna be in love with you, damn it.”

Remus chuckles and glances to the side.

“Doubt that Prongs. But yeah I loved the book. Oh and erm- food should be here soon by the way guys. Just got the notification to say it’s on its way here.”

Remus then clearly decides he’s done enough socialising with the internet so he grabs his current book, Song of Achilles, and carries on reading. 

And of course, because he’s so easy to deal with already, Sirius’ stomach, as if it has a mind of its own, decides now is the time to become bloody starving.

He glances guilty at Prongs, who furrows his eyebrows as if to ask what’s wrong.

“Hey Moons,” Sirius raises the pitch of his voice slightly to warn Remus he’s about to be a bit annoying. Remus glances up, squints at him and tilts his head.

“Remember when I said I wasn’t hungry?”

James bursts into laughter and Pete chuckles. But Remus just goes back to his book. And once the laughter dies down he, without even lifting his head from reading, tells Sirius,

“Idiot. I know. I ordered you food when I ordered ours. I know you. I knew you’d be hungry.” He rolls his eyes but goes straight back to the book.

The entire internet sees Sirius’ doe eyes but Remus does not. It sends James up the wall.

Obviously hate is never okay and that message is was super shitty, I’m sorry!

But it’s also very obvious that you think canon is superior. Even with the small things— like chocolate chip versus oatmeal raisin in your response. (i know i know it’s silly but…) Based on my experience with your page, you do shit on non-canon ships in your memes and you complain about people who like those ships.

(And before you say that you’re critiquing the ships— it doesn’t feel like you’re doing it in good faith. Good faith critiques come from a place wanting something to improve because you like it and want to be part of it. You’ve made it clear you don’t like these ships and it feels like you don’t want to actually engage in productive discourse)

So It feels like the “if people just tagged correctly” argument is disingenuous. Like how do you tag a character as OOC when they don’t really have a characterization to begin with? Not to mention— I feel like sO many marauders fics are tagged as AUs anyway because they don’t take place in the magical world.

There are also so many other tags you could filter out, such as any of the ships you don’t like. If you don’t like how Jegulus treats Lily and Harry, filter out fics that having Jegulus raising Harry.

To a casual (but deeply invested observer) it feels more like you miss the focus on the older parts of the fandom and are taking it out on the newer members. If you’re annoyed with the lack of content/focus/popularity, you’re not going to change that with anti posts. You just need to find your people (which you’re doing here!) based on what you all like.

To your jokes about marauders fans not understanding or knowing the canon… many marauders fans grew up reading Harry Potter and have since become uncomfortable with how JKRs views come through in the text. Many of us have since distanced ourselves from the original canon on purpose because of the transphobia, racism, and pro-cop content. (This isn’t me trying to say that canon lovers are endorsing this, but it also doesn’t feel right when canon lovers act like they have more of a claim to fandom spaces… so many people would have loved to continue being in those spaces, but feel like Marauders is a safer space)

I don’t get the impression that people are trying to pretend they invented Harry Potter, but to some degree they largely invented the marauders characters. Obviously some characters have large roles in the canon (you post a lot abt Remadora, which makes sense) but others are barely mentioned or are only shown through specific lenses.

Like I mentioned earlier, how do you tag something OOC when there’s no original characterization? But it’s not an OC, because you’re pulling bits of the character from the world and thousands of other people have the same character (or a similar character) in their heads.

This isn’t supposed to be a gotcha moment. I’m genuinely asking bc it doesn’t really feel like tagging is the root of the issue.

One last big point: Your blog talks a ton about misogyny and fetishization of gay men. These are topics that are much-discussed in so many spaces and not even the most fanon-focused marauders fans can agree on them, but I’d like to give my two cents.

There is misogyny. Of course there is. Even as people try their best, Marauders revolves around a group of boys (it’s in the name) and men will continue to be at the center of it. That will inherently attract and breed misogyny.

However, the canon treatment and characterization of women is also misogynistic. Lily, for example, is very flat in the books. She has a few scenes (in Snapes memories, mostly) and is otherwise talked *about*. She is held up as an idyllic mother and student and person, true, but that is not a well-written character. She isn’t really a person in the books as much as she is a motivation/plot device for men around her. And this is entirely a product of JKR’s inability to write women.

Again, all of this is par for the course, and most people would agree that canon marauders-era characters are often single-note.

What feels unfair about your arguments is that fanon has added so much depth to these characters and flushed them out as real fallible humans. It’s fair to point out that fanon does this more for the men, but it feels reductive to oNLY talk about the misogyny in fandom, when canon is just as guilty by nature of the author.

On the topic of fetishizing: there’s this idea that a bunch of creepy white women are sitting at their computers writing porn about gay teenagers… when that is really a straw man argument. Maybe those people exist, and I would be more likely to believe that that’s true in the broader HP fandom… but a majority of the marauders fic authors I know (including the ones who write filthy smut) are genderqueer (transmasc esp) and are actively experimenting with their sexuality and gender. Marauders fics played a large role in my coming out as transmasc.

It’s not fetishizing if the people writing these things are closeted gay men/nonbinary people. That’s just people writing the experiences they wish they could have had.

And that’s also part of why we—I, at least— distance from canon. JKR looms over a lot. Maybe you don’t feel it, which is great! I’m very glad. But please don’t shit on people who do.

Anyway, I know this is super long and idk if you’ll even read/respond to it, but thank you if you do. If you want to engage in more discussion, I will continue to check back and DM you if you want.

Canon is superior to fanon. I do complain about people who enjoy the ships. Not only because of mistagging. Mistagging is a band-aid for the problem. It solves the immediate issue of having a fanon fandom and a canon fandom under one umbrella. That is the tip of the iceberg.

I do not want to engage in productive discourse as you put it. Not on this page. This page serves a specific purpose for me. Venting. I do not start any post with "let us discuss" or "we need to talk about". Any engagement I get is from asks like this one. People come to me to vent. It is ok.

Because it is not productive to argue about canon versus fanon. I have tried. I have failed. In this fandom it is impossible to have a good faith critique of fanon ships. Too many people treat their fanon ships as markers of their morality or personality. A good faith critique of fanon ship becomes an attack on the shipper. It goes like this:

Them: "Jegulus could be canon IF. Or Jegulus could be canon, BUT"

It is the IF/BUT that makes the discussion impossible. I do not want to talk about IF/BUT. I want to talk about what is.

OOC and canon characterisation. There are some characters that have almost nothing. Like Evan Rosier. But what we do know is he was killed by Moody. He was resisting arrest. He blew off a chunk of Moody's nose. That does not sound like a spring flower who loves justice and Muggleborns.

I am angry with newer Marauder fans because they have taken these AUs as canon. Some have not read the books by their own admission and seem to be proud of it. How do you talk about canon James Potter if you only have fanfiction? We know enough to piece together a character. We know enough that he hated dark magic, loved Lily, loved his friends. There is never ever mention of Regulus by James.

To say it again. Mistagging is the tip of the iceberg. It can solve an immediate problem. It does not solve the problem of the whole fandom. I cannot solve that. I do not pretend to try to solve that. I am incapable of solving that. I can make memes that make me laugh, make others laugh, occasionally break containment. I have been blocked by loads of accounts. I expected this and am ok with it. I have also said before I will not do this forever. I am angry and taking it out with memes. Instead of going to individual ask boxes or fics or TikTok accounts or Twitter accounts or Discord servers and harassing individuals.

I do filter. The filtering makes certain tags walls of filtered posts. If you filter wolfstar and go to the Sirius Black tag page it is mostly filtered posts. That means the tag is unusable to me.

Filtering fics. This is easy enough in theory. But fanon characterisation has become ingrained. When I filter out all the ships I do not want, I still find OOC characterisation in fics. Overly-dramatic Sirius. Alpha male Lupin. Do-no-wrong Hermione. Stupid Ron. Those are not tagged. I do the sensible thing. I click out of the fic, do not leave a hate comment, do not engage with the author or fic.

Yet I can still be frustrated and make a general meme that is not specific to an author or fic to the best of my ability. Almost everything is tagged anti marauders fandom, anti marauders fanon, or anti ship, or anti X bashing. I make it easier to filter my controversial takes. This page, one more time, is not for discussion. I open discussion with asks but it is up to the asker to discuss with me.

I will push back on your interpretation of Lily. We know more about Lily than James. You pointed out the problem. By focusing on the Marauders (men) it does breed misogyny. But we know more about the Marauders than characters like Mary Macdonald, Dorcas Meadowes, Marlene McKinnon, Hestia Jones, Emmeline Vance. If we have almost nothing for Marauders and even less for the female characters, why is fanon incapable of doing as much for them?

We cannot do anything about the internalised misogyny and transmisogyny by JKR. We can and should criticise her and her dehumanising views. It seems hypocritical to me to say "well, the author is guilty of misogyny so we should be as critical of her."

We are. The reason I push harder on fandom than on JKR is that many parts of fandom are declaring themselves morally superior, morally better, more socially progressive than JKR. Which is true in many ways. But if this is the claim, I expect more from fandom than JKR. If you know better, you do better. The Marauders fandom claims to know better. So I push harder on fandom.

It is good that the Marauders fandom encouraged you to be who you are. It is good that you felt comfortable and supported to come out as transmasc.

However we all have our echo chambers. I am guilty of it. This blog is an echo chamber often. I respond to asks like this one that are in good faith and disagree with me.

Fetishisation to me is not about writing genuine experiences or wishful thinking or wish fulfillment. It is about using an identity as an object for pleasure. Only you can decide which one is which. I have been in fandom for a long while. It is not only middle aged white women who do this. White people fetishise POC. Het people fetishise queer people. Young people fetishise. Old people fetishise. Everyone is susceptible to using another person or identity as an object for pleasure. I have seen it all over many years.

“Who do you think that is?”

A young nasal voice echoed through a small cabin of the Hogwarts Express. The boy nodded towards a large figure curled up in the furthest corner, fully concealed under a ragged tweed robe.

“Professor R.J. Lupin. And Professor H. Lynx, but she’s probably running errands somewhere around the train.”

This time a girl’s voice, clear and confident.

“How is it that you know everything?” the boy hissed, annoyed. The girl just let out a loud sigh.

“There are names on the suitcases, Ronald.”

A small, fluffy animal that rested next to the stranger’s lap slowly opened her eyes, looking around at the new faces that joined the cabin. Her matted fur was curly in some places, the colour almost unidentifiable, except for the silver clumps that peppered her head. And she had a strange vertical scar across the left side of her face. Quite unusual for an ordinary cat.

A pair of big, nearly phosphorescent irises fell on Harry Potter’s green ones and pinned him to the leather seat when he sat down next to her and her…owner? He immediately regretted even thinking of that word because it seemed to irritate her. As if she could read his mind.

For a second it seemed like she narrowed her eyes at him and then looked around the room again, her gaze stopping at the large cluster of ginger fur in front of her. Hermione Granger clutched her pet, Crookshanks, a bit closer to her chest, worried that he might pounce at the strange cat. But when the greying feline softly meowed in his direction, he began purring and buried his squashed face into Hermione’s sweater, clearly content.

“I never thought I’d see a more bizarre excuse for a cat than yours, Hermione, but this one might be a solid contender.” Ron Weasley chuckled, his long freckled nose scrunched. His eyes widened, however, when the cat rested her sight on him, her bored glowing stare burning through his skull.

She elegantly stretched and tucked her tail between her paws, closing her eyes again. She snuggled closer to the stranger’s coat and the group of students jumped when he mindlessly stuck out his hand, petting her head in his sleep before disappearing even deeper into the heavy fabric with a soft snore.

“Do you think he’s really asleep? I have to tell you something.” Harry asked his friends, still uneasy about the cat’s presence.

The cat was harshly awakened by a strange freezing sensation jolting through her from the tip of her tail. She opened her eyes and immediately jumped on all fours when she realized the lights were out. Two more children were in the cabin now and all of their faces twisted in horror as they were guessing what was going on. It took another jolt of fright before the feline fully came to her senses and realized what was happening. She turned her frizzy head to the sleeping man beside her.

Merlin’s beard. Sorry, Remus.

She dug her claws into the man’s thigh and he sprung up, instinctively reaching for the wand inside his robes. His hair was all tousled and messy from the uncomfortable nap he was indulging in a second ago. His scarred cheek had a rough, fuzzy pattern imprinted on it, from how he rested on his scratchy coat. He was just about to scold the animal when he felt the same wave of frigid dread rush through him. He realized that there were people around him, frightened and defenceless children. They were all chattering in panic, their words shaky and incoherent.

“Quiet!” he hissed, his voice still hoarse from sleep. He gracefully waved his long fingers and a heatless flame sphere appeared in his palm, illuminating his soft, tired features. He turned to the cat with a slightly disappointed expression and she tipped her head as if to apologize for the rude awakening.

She spat out a loud hiss when a large flowing shadow of robes opened the clunky cabin door. It slithered its skinless, slimy fingers around the doorframe and floated in. Its foul breath sounded more like a wheeze, like a razor scratching against a porcelain goblet. The cat hissed again, her ears folded in a perfectly horizontal line, and got ready to pounce, but Remus Lupin held up a finger to stop her. She hesitantly stayed put as he spoke to the creature in a calm and calculated voice, but it didn’t seem to comprehend - or didn’t want to. It moved even further inside and latched its gaze onto Harry, whose chest heaved as if there was an invisible black hole trying to suck him in.

The cat jumped up on the professor’s shoulder with a feral growl and he didn’t even bat an eye, only muttered an incantation, and suddenly, the whole cabin was filled with a bright sparkling glow that illuminated even the smallest cranny. The creature let out a guttural eerie gasp before floating out of sight and in a few moments, the lightbulbs in the room flickered alight again.

The cat looked around the room, now having a proper outlook from the ragged man’s shoulder. He didn’t seem too distraught, he even raised a finger to playfully scratch her chin. She reacted by biting him and throwing him a scowl - well, as much of a scowl as a cat could manage.

“Sorry, Mittens. That was for the claws,” he whispered to her and she scoffed, jumping down on the floor to see…

Harry.

He was passed out and unresponsive as his friends tried to wake him. Remus kneeled next to him and slapped his cheeks a few times. The cat, Mittens, spotted a small red-haired girl shaking in the corner, face puffy and full of tears. She took one last look at Harry before soundlessly walking up to the little one, tickling her cheek with her fluffy tail. She purred as loudly as she could when the child extended her shivering fingers to scratch the silver patch of fur on her head. It seemed to slightly calm the girl down and as Harry opened his eyes, both her and the animal let out a sigh of relief.

“Here, eat this. It’s just chocolate. You’ll feel better.” Remus spoke as he divided pieces of a chocolate bar that he fished out of the depths of his robe. He gave a chunk to each person in the cabin - Hermione, Ron, the tall chubby boy with protruding ears they called Neville, and the redhead girl, Ginny.

His voice was as velvety and sweet as the candy he was handing out.

He offered a triangle to the cat with a big smirk and Harry could swear he saw her roll her eyes. The boy reluctantly took a piece from the professor when he faced him, still unsure if it was safe to eat. The cat silently meowed in contentment, making the little redhead smile through all the sniffling.

“What was that…thing?” Harry asked, slowly sitting back up on the seat with Neville’s help.

“That was a Dementor, Harry. One of the Azkaban guards. They were searching for Sirius Black.” the professor calmly stated, his expression as blank as an empty sheet of parchment. Yet the cat could decipher the slightest strain in his voice when he mentioned the name. He then rose and cleared his throat, breaking off a small piece of the chocolate bar for himself. He put the rest of the package on the empty spot next to Harry and smiled at everyone.

“Now if you’ll excuse us. We’ve got to have a word with the driver,” he apologized with a curt nod and the cat gave the small girl one last nudge before setting off.

When he walked out of the door, he tutted at her, as most people would do to catch a cat’s attention. She stopped in her tracks, staring at his smug grin. Then she jumped up on his shoulder again and smacked his head with her clawed paw a few times. He stifled a giggle and faced the inside of the cabin once more, meeting all the confused and shaken faces.

“I truly didn’t poison the chocolate. Eat, you’ll feel better,” he repeated and took a bite of his piece before disappearing into the corridor.

The cat gave his face another smack and he laughed again, slowing down for a second when they finally walked past an empty cabin. The cat hopped down and sneaked inside. He looked around to see if anyone was outside, but it seemed like all passengers were still too terrified to walk out.

“You couldn’t just wake me up by tapping my hand, could you?” he muttered and stood there with folded arms, his lanky and towering figure leaning against the door that led to the next wagon. The cat didn’t walk back out, however. Instead, the door flew open and a woman’s head popped out. Instead of whiskers, she had a mop of wild hair on her head, pinned up into a messy chignon with a long wooden hairpin. Her locks were threaded with prematurely grey strands, the base colour as strange and uncertain as the feline’s fur.

She straightened the tweed vest under her jacket and brushed off a few spare cat hairs that rested on the shoulders of her shabby moss-green robe. The only thing that stayed the same were the eyes that seemed to glow when the light hit the right spot. And the single vertical scar running from her forehead to her cheek. Her pupils were still just thin slits, piercing Remus through and through, eyebrows knitted in an annoyed scowl.

“You could’ve spared me the chin scratches, idiot.” she spat the words at him, now in a human, female voice. Her pupils slowly got wider before finally rounding up to a normal shape. Remus snorted and opened the door for her, ruffling her hair as she walked past him.

“You know me, Mittens, I just couldn’t help myself. And you should trim your claws.” he simply stated as he followed her and handed her the rest of his chocolate. She threw it in her mouth and angrily chomped on it.

“And you should trim your tongue, preferably right at the base so I don’t have to listen to you. I’m not-“

“You’re not my pet, blah blah. We could’ve slept the whole way through if those things didn’t stick their fingers in a train full of children,” he muttered grumpily, trying to change the subject. After all, they just met him. A few seconds of silence passed between them, and only the confused muffled voices of the students echoed through the corridor as they walked by each cabin.

“Did you see his eyes?”

Hesperia’s voice cracked and she turned around at her old friend, sudden tears twinkling in her eyes. He gave her a melancholic smile.

“Did you see his nose? He’s like a textbook copy of Prongs. And the Longbottom boy! His ears are exactly like Frank’s.” he continued, his eyes lighting up when she enthusiastically nodded.

“I still can’t believe it.” her voice fell into a soft whisper and she looked ahead again when she stumbled over the peeling brown carpet on the ground.

“Merlin, did they ever glue this thing?” she cursed under her breath and swiftly reached to the inside of her robe, taking out a long, slender cherry wand.

“Reparo!” she muttered and the carpet straightened with a puff of dust, now perfectly adhered to the ground. She tucked her wand back somewhere into the layers of cloth and continued.

“Bloody hell, he looked like a beanpole, though. Not that James was ever a mountain of muscles, it’s just…I just hope the muggles weren’t starving him, that’s all. He lived under a staircase, for Godric’s sake.”

Remus hummed.

“Well, at least we know he’ll eat enough when we arrive at the feast.” he sighed, his upset stomach flipping at the thought of food. It was as if she could hear the wheels turning in his head because she turned around at him again, now with a concerned frown.

“Did you rest at all?”

“I tried. I slept like a log but…”

He fell silent.

“I know. It’s okay, the first night is always the worst, right? You’ll sleep better when we get there. I promise.” she gave him the softest of smiles and the terrible pit in his stomach melted.

She was like that. A few words and he felt weightless.

“I, for one, hope there will be pumpkin puffs. Merlin, I haven’t had a proper pastry in months. Excuse me, sorry, thank you.” she muttered repeatedly when they entered another wagon, now trying to navigate her steps between clusters of seventh-years that surrounded her from all sides. They finally came out of their cabins to find out what was happening. Both professors were being followed by all the eyes in the corridor.

It was uncommon for adults to travel by the Express. And they stuck out even more, as their robes certainly weren’t in the best shape. When they finally reached the driver’s cabin, Hesperia turned around and reached up to tame her friend’s hair as there were still strands sticking out all over since the moment he woke up. She couldn’t stop the patchy blush creeping up her cheeks when he answered to her touch with a warm smile, something she should’ve been used to after twenty years by his side.

“I knock, you speak,” she whispered and softly hit her knuckles against the mahogany door. Then she quickly sneaked around him and hid behind his back, giving him a light shove. He stumbled forward and chuckled.

“As if it was ever the other way around.”

I honestly think the fandom often gets Sirius's personality completely wrong (example: "he's so dramatic" → the most dramatic thing Sirius did was get pissed off in front of the person who betrayed him, his friends and killed innocent upon innocent... Or the fact that he is portrayed as "stupid" when in the books he is described as "brilliant" and has some of the wisest sentences in the saga - so much so that one of his quotes in the films is made to say to Dumbledore). I admit that this deeply annoys me😅. I don't see how anyone can consider themselves a fan of a character if they then completely change them (both aesthetically and character-wise).

However, if there's one thing I'm grateful for in the marauders fandom, it's the change they've made to James' personality! In the beginning he was made out to be a playboy (ad an asshole), when according to what's written in the books the guy was simply lost in love, a bit childish, noble, incredibly loyal (and put a stop to murders against his enemies!).

I find James' evolution to be interesting! Especially since I've been around (in and out, granted) the fandom for so long. I remember him being a real asshole (and Lily shrill and bossy) in some stories and really aggressive in his pursuit of Lily. There's also the competing complete simp for Lily (never so much as looks at another girl) vs popular jock garnering a lot of attention (and capitalizing on it). I suppose he was somewhere in the middle of both of those, but they're fun to explore in different ways for sure.

(And not to get off topic, but I will say that Lily has had a great transformation, too. She was basically Hermione in early iterations of fic. Or she was so shrill and angry with James that shipping them together, best case, made no sense, and worse case, exemplified a toxic relationship. Granted, when I first started reading/writing Jily, the last two books weren't released and we did learn a decent bit about her after that. Now it's really great to see her written vibrantly, funny, passionate, emotional, and bantering with James which is obviously something I eat up.)

Oh Peter. Honestly, I see Peter as a good strategist. He's really perceptive and that's something he can use to his advantage because he's not often in the spotlight and was easily overlooked. Of course he had insecurities too, especially if he tried to measure himself against Sirius and James and their popularity, accomplishments, etc. To some degree, he went along with what the others wanted to do, even if he wasn't completely sold on it. Eager to be included and not left behind, he learned to become an animagus and he joined the Order, both things he never would have suggested on his own

Do I think he was evil, biding his time, or really pro-LV the whole time? Nah. I'm sure he shared similar beliefs to the other boys and wasn't anti-muggle/muggle-born. I think his descent really came from his insecurities and the loosening of their friendship bond. Between going undercover or going off on missions, the boys living separately after all of that time together, then James getting married and starting a new family unit with Lily, Peter started wavering. And once the cracks started, the right words from the wrong person would have him flip-flopping to the other side. Interestingly, because I have this characterization of Peter, I don't often (ever?) write him as betraying his friends in any of the AU/divergent stories I've written. I think the crushing threat of LV and the exhaustion of fighting are what triggered his betrayal. So in a non-LV word, I think they remain pals.

Hi! I really like your blog! I was just wondering, how do you manage to find canon-based marauders content? I’m pretty new to Tumblr and while I follow the main tags, I’m tired of the short and shallow Siriuses, activist Jameses, and naive Lupins that don’t seem anything like the marauders I fell in love with. And the hatred for Snape and the condescension towards his fans makes me super scared to interact with blogs since I have posted Snape content on my main blog and I feel like I’d be eaten alive. a lot of it honestly is just finding and following the right people. the exact balance of that is personal that it will take a while to feel like you're consistently seeing things on your own specific wavelength but it's definitely doable. i think once you find one blog you really align with, see who they interact with regularly, check out those blogs, then check out who those blogs follow, etc etc. i used to systematically go through likes and reblogs on posts i liked, but once you find a few blogs you really enjoy, you'll end up finding more like-minded people quite naturally. and honestly, anyone who expects you to have the exact same tolerances for different characters as they do is probably not going to be much fun to interact with anyway.

i use filters for things i absolutely never want to see but not everything gets tagged/not everything that is tagged is the thing you don't want to see (so much sirius solo art/gen marauder stuff is tagged wolfstar) but it works and i would recommend it for absolute no-gos.

the main tags unfortunately are not safe spaces anymore and tbh if there's anything worth seeing in there, someone else will reblog it so it ends up on your dash anyway. sometimes i look in the prongsfoot tag but if anything look at anti (ship)/anti (character) tags lol and sometimes finding people who dislike the same things as you is also a good way to find like-minded people - hating can work, kids.

specifically for mwpp stuff, in my broad experience, snape fans are often more comfortable with the morally grey thing so they have solid views on snape AND sirius, james and remus, tho obviously you get the ultra protective stans too. but def follow snape fans if you are even slighty interested in snape, it's a great way of seeing how other pockets of hp fandom function. also, you could have identical views on a character as someone but you love them and they hate them, for the same reasons, and i feel like the joy is in finding the same interpretation, it's very fun and just in life it's good to see different perspectives. i got unfollowed a while back for a snape post i can't even remember but it was like 5 people and honestly the right people will probably be cooler than you think about it :)

so really my advice boils down to:

know what you do and don't want to see

know what you can and can't tolerate seeing (things that annoy you or more serious triggers)

find connections through sources you trust

try finding a mix of people who like the same things as you do/people who dislike the same things you do/people who you might not always agree with in judgement but whose analyses and approaches are objective

and eventually you'll have a great balanced lil circle <3

Hiii I'm sorry I'm replying to this so late, I saw it this morning but then my boss had the audacity to demand I actually do my job for once which really cut into my usual tumblr time... but hope you're ready for some Sirius thoughts now!!!

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

Okay so this is such a hard question because I feel like we are so spoiled with so many amazing iconic AUs in this fandom, so some of the ones I just thought of I then immediately remembered there already exists a fic for it! Is there a drag race AU? If there is someone should please let me know and if not, I'd love to put Sirius into drag race. I have only seen a few episodes and I'm not like a huge huge fan of drag race, more like a casual enjoyer but just in general, why don't the marauders do drag more often?! I feel like that should be more of a thing, or maybe I'm just not reading the fics where they do!

And also, (lesbian) wolfstar fried green tomatoes AU when??!! I would absolutely LIVE for that.

Honestly? Yeah I think so. I think it wouldn't always go super smoothly and we'd probably have a few explosive fights and he might move out at some point because he'd get too annoyed with me but I think it would also probably be fun to be roommates with Sirius, and oddly enough, I think it would work better than being roommates with Remus! And I'm sure he would love my cat!!!!

Most underrated ship: At the moment I wanna say Parvati/Luna and Dorcas/Narcissa simply because I am in a mood for them and no one else seems to be. But seeing as those are also completely random characters to pair up, I can see why. In general, I'm gonna go with the 'popular' femslash ships? Even for just dorlene, which is definitely one of the more like established sapphic ships here, it's so hard finding it in content where it's not the sideship to wolfstar or jegulus. (Like legit if you go to the Marlene/Dorcas tag on AO3, M/M is still the most popular category and something about that just kinda annoys me sometimes lol)

There are obviously a lot of different reasons why that's the case, I'm not mad at anyone or anything, but it's a little disappointing when I just want the girls to fall in love sometimes. In that trend though, I will stick to my initial Dorcas/Narcissa and Parvati/Luna because those are girls that deserve some love.

Most overrated ship: Not to stir anything, I mean no hate to any shippers bc y'all look like you're having a blast and I'm very happy for you, but I'm so very glad for tumblr making it easy to mute jegulus posts. I don't get the appeal, I can't imagine it's something James would ever do except for very specific AUs, I just don't like it and it's grown SO much recently (especially on tiktok where filtering content is so frustratingly difficult lol). They've become one of the seemingly 'established' ship in half the headcanons I see even for other characters, and personally I'm just never a huge fan of it when that happens to any ship (simply because what I love most about the marauders era is that none of it is established) but with drarry and wolfstar, at least I like the ships you know. I just don't like jegulus and it's so prominent right now. But again, obviously, y'all seem to be having great fun and this is what they made muted tags and dldr for lmao, I'm not hating on anyone. (God knows I have no right left to judge anyway).

(I will say, I see Crimson Rivers excerpts sometimes when I looked for sirius and narcissa content on twitter, and one of the recent (I think recent) scenes made me cry without even reading the fic, so I very much get why good fics like that bring people in lmao)

6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?

Oh god, so many. The first ones that come to mind are jegulus and dramione shippers. Obviously not all of them but the amount of times I see these shippers just show up and bring up their ship when the topic isn’t even related to said ship is insane. I once saw someone make this drarry edit on tiktok and so many of the comments were just “dramione is better!!!” “Ew this is toxic”. Which is incredible ironic.

7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them?

Probably Remus and Hermione. I never really liked hermione in the first place but seeing the fandom treat her like she’s perfect and can do no wrong really aggravates me. And remus well….he is suffering from the ocification like the rest of the marauders characters. And the oc they’re making remus into is just incredibly boring and stereotypical yet they’re claiming he’s dimensional.

10. Worst part of fanon

Can I just say everything that came from marauderstok and marauders twitter? Because it’s all of that. The main one that stands out is Remus being the “Casanova of gryffindor tower”. This hc is so fucking stupid because it was literally a line that was said sarcastically yet people took it incredibly literal. Remus is a LOSER, I can guarantee he was not pulling everyone. I also don’t like the bimbofication, babygirlification, and teenager girlification of sirius but idk if that counts as fanon because it’s actually incredibly niche but the fans seem to think it’s a fact. But anyways, it makes sirius incredibly ooc and downright obnoxious.

16. You can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc.)

Oh maybe this would be a better place to talk about what the marauders fandom is doing to sirius, but I already kinda talked about that (although I’m always up for complaining about it) so I’ll move on to something else. I don’t understand why Hermione is the fandom bicycle? Maybe it’s just because I don’t like her but she quite literally doesn’t mesh well with a majority of the characters she’s paired with. It feels like people are just using her as a self-insert. And it also would make more sense for Harry to be the bicycle but the people who like the Hermione bicycle thing just seem to want everything to be het. Which like, fine, but just write ‘x reader’ fics.

It really depends. Nowadays, probably wolfstar. Some of them are pretty fucking annoying. But it's far from what it used to be. I was here during the gold old ship war days, and I remember dramione and harmione (?) stans being the most annoying people on the face of the earth. 2012 dramione fandom anyone? the ron bashing?? 2016 jily stans with the anti-snape posts??? *shudders*

Not to say the Marauders fandom isn't toxic now but my policy is to: block block block whenever I see people who say atrocious things with 100% conviction.

Also, I just can't stand, as a general rule, people supporting wildly fanon ships over canon ones, and trying to unironically argue why they work better... There is literally nothing wrong with liking a crack!ship, I could argue that's the point of fanfiction, but don't insult my intelligence. Sometimes I see takes where the only possible solution would be for the author to read the source material again.

Unwillingly is a strong word... I have read some good Tomarry fics in the last year (but. like. literally three (3). don't get excited) which is something that I would have rather gauged my own eyes out than do in the past. But then again only under very specific conditions for themes/setting/length/etc. It's not something I would ever look for, it's something I read if I know the author from other works and think “let's give it a try”... so, probably, I'm actually more in love with those authors' writing ability than the actual ship. You can tell if you actually like a ship in the following way: mediocre stories still make you swoon. You can tell if you like an author in the following way: I would rather get slapped in the face than read this ship but you make it interesting/enjoyable.

Jily is another, not because I disliked it in the way I dislike Tomarry but just 'cause it bores me a little. After exhausting any and all Snape character studies where he mopes about Lily (happy-ending Snily is not something I've ever liked) I thought meh, why not.

Oh! And you might be absolutely shocked to hear this but Belladolphus was one of these too. I was (and always will be) a Bellamort shipper, for my first few years in the fandom I was indifferent to Rodolphus at best. The man doesn't have a (1) single line in the books and we don't even really know what he looks like, but he's my angel and my baby and my darling and I accept no Rodolphus Lestrange slander in this house. Now, they're one of my favourites.

In canon probably Snape. The world isn't split into sexual assault apologists and Death Eater apologists, we all have some functioning brain cells and critical thinking skills, it's important we choose to stay in the fucking middle.

Out of canon... come on, you don't need me to tell you what it is. Personally, I think that pointing out the flaws in a book series is important and useful to the general public (and so many criticisms of the series are incredibly valid), but clutching your pearls because the kids decorate for Christmas in Grimmauld Place and *gasp* “I cannot believe JKR wrote her characters putting christmas decorations on the disembodied heads of slaves and thought "yes. this is good. very cute and charming."” (yes, this is a real comment someone made on the internet, i didn't write this. yes, it has hundreds of likes.)

Guys. It's not that deep. It's played as grotesque in the same way the Addams Family is. The Blacks are spooky ha-ha that's the joke. It's played for dark giggles, literally not that fucking deep. Although maybe I'm wrong and insensitive for this, but come on. Feel free to correct me.

Also, something that most people don't get about the Blacks: they weren't unkind to their house elves, or at least not in the way we think. Again, the Blacks are a bit like the Addams family in this scenario, they have a macabre way of doing stuff: their elves were all very devoted and thought it was an honour to be beheaded (which happened when they were too old or weak to carry the tea tray) and Kreacher even hopes that that will be his destiny when his time comes, like his mother before him. Dumbledore also says that "Mistress Cissy and Mistress Bella" were probably kind to Kreacher in their own way - Sirius was the one who was cruel to him, actually. They all saw elves as their natural slaves (which is bad), but they were part of the family just as much as servants were for an aristocratic family of the 1700s/1800s.

Remus is definitely the most woobified, sugar-coated marauder in fanon. He was so interesting in canon when he was portrayed as a character who was on the good side but with typical villain traits: charismatic manipulator, selfish, gaslighter, etc. His motivations were understandable too. honestly, fanon remus makes me so annoyed i don’t think i can even properly articulate it lol. it’s gotten so bad that people will completely forget how the man acted in the books and then have go and say ‘oh it was completely out of character for him to do x’ when like,,,,no? (i mean, if u don’t care about canon then great, just say that and we’re gucci) like i’ve literally seen people argue him trying to run out on his wife and unborn kid was ooc as if we didn’t get multiple examples of his cowardice (self admitted) and avoidance tactics. like, he was not a saint and he definitely was not a morally upstanding person. he often comes off so much more favourably compared to sirius and james when the man wasn’t any better. all his faults are whitewashed into ‘he was scared of losing the only friends he had’ which is such a shit excuse (even more than the ‘poor werewolf’ one). i once saw someone saying ‘how do you think remus would’ve reacted to harry’s illegal tournament entry’ as an aside to ‘how would sirius have reacted as a free man’ and i remember being completely baffled because…we know how he reacted? which is that he didn’t. the man didn’t even bother to send a letter to harry, didn’t show up before the task when everyone else’s families did, didn’t help him with any of the crises, wasn’t there post graveyard. like, there’s a theme here. remus has no interest in cultivating a relationship with harry (or if he does, he has a very shitty way of showing it). honestly, he’s kind of terrible at relationships in general imo.

i’ve mentioned this before, i think, but also the double standards with which he’s treated coupled with the complete lack of accountability is so frustrating. like, remus can mess up more than anyone else but it’ll never stick. for eg, you’ll have so many people saying sirius treated harry like a second coming of james (and i do blame the movies for that one) but remus’ repeated usage of james as a way to manipulate harry is completely ignored. like that scene in poa is actually cruel. sirius’ forced absence from harry’s life is thrown in his face, but remus is never once questioned. (it’s why him being called a second godfather is a pet peeve of mine tbh). he wasn’t a known werewolf until poa, what the fuck was he doing until then? that’s the thing right, there’s so many gaps in his storyline that u can fill it any way u want. fans will do it favourably, while people like me who don’t like him won’t.

there’s also the whole sirius aspect of it, for me. as far as fictional characters go, i think remus is terrible for sirius. like most people think the exact opposite, yeah? remus is out of sirius’ league, there’s a power dynamic that’s skewed in sirius’ favor, remus’ low self esteem, trust issues blah blah. but i genuinely believe it’ll be sirius who comes off worse in a r/s relationship. so ykno, that just adds to my bias lol.

editing to add: guess it’s the hallmark of a successful manipulative character, though, that he flies under the radar the way he does eh? like that’s the sign of success right there, that he can pull all the shit in the world without it sticking to him so good on him lol
