i'm studying so i can't actually make this post but i'm so fascinated and frustrated by eleanor's story and how her downfall both as the pirate queen and the governor's wife is for the exact same reason. she perceives herself to be this independent woman who can conquer nassau with her will, but both times she gets close, first as a pirate then as an englishwoman, she steps back at the last moment and defers to a man and lets him have the final word. trusting her father and then trusting rogers are her ruin
