Sometimes a family is a girl, two brother demons and their demon father, the friend she made, and a nun.
Seriously this movie was amazing and deserves every bit of attention!!

Someone: Gwen's story is a trans allegory - there's clear parallels of her hiding her secret identity and being closeted as a transfem that enrich her story and arc while representing queer youth-
Audience: *cheers and claps*
Me: I agree and also Miguel's story is a trans allegory - there's clear parallels of his injections and desire for roles like fatherhood being like HRT and social transition, that enriches his story and arc while representing transmas-
Audience: *Begins to BOO me vehemently* *A rotten tomato flies from the crowd and knocks me unconscious*

Me watching the LGBT community who almost never rarely gives black women and girls, asexuals, or aromantics genuine respect, pretend we’re all friends and have always treated us right the minute it’s June 1st and want to use black women(mainly darkskinned) and girls as their little poster girl:

I love the trans Crocodile theories way too much that I always got to step back and snap myself out of it like "no, wait. this isn't real" but then a cartoonish devil appears on my shoulder and says "Crocodile is transgender" and then a second devil appears on my other shoulder and says "he's right, there's no other explanation"

Sometimes, it feels like we're living in the age of cowardice when it comes to queer representation.
On the one hand, some things we see onscreen today would've been unthinkable at one point in time.
However, there is this pervasive feeling of dancing around characters' queerness, timidly alluding to it via post-release interviews, and wishy-washy "up to your interpretation" characterizations.
"Be grateful you have anything at all," some might say. But I want more!!
I'm tired of this stupid dance, tired of characters who are obviously queer not being allowed to get too "out of bounds" for fear of the moderate/conservative straight viewers.
I know the state of LGBTQ rights seems in danger of rapidly declining, but that's exactly why I want raw, authentic, tender, joyous queerness to be normalized onscreen.
TL;DR This "abundant tame and toothless, sanitized queer rep in media" moment we are living in is getting me down.

okay but au in which jaskier was locked in a tower to be saved by his future spouse (really he just got into mischief, so his parents did it to keep him out of their hair until they could hand him off to someone else under the guise of “PROVE YOU ARE WORTHY OF OUR PRECIOUS CHILD”), and jask managed to get out in approximately 72 hours (adhd brain?? locked up??? with no?? stimulus?? absolutely not time to go mastermind mode)
and now there’s just one little problem
he can’t actually become *too* famous until he finds someone willing to “rescue” him from the tower and give him a good reason to be out so his parents won’t lock him up again
obvious solution?
hire the butcher of blaviken
his parents aren’t going to raise a fuss about him marrying someone called butcher, so he’s all good there, but they’re also probably not going to cross someone called butcher who went through the trouble of getting him out in the first place. wins all around.
the problem?
THE FUCKER WON’T TAKE THE DAMN CONTRACT
jaskier goes up to him in posada under the guise of being a bard (he always wanted to be one anyway and wants to try it after he’s “free”) so he can dangle a nice bit of “oh very beautiful young viscount locked away just WAITING for rescue from a handsome man *eyelash batting*
AND GERALT GRUNTS AND LEAVES AND DOESN’T FUCKING DO IT BECAUSE HE’S NOT INTERESTED IN GETTING DRAGGED INTO NOBLE BULLSHIT
jaskier just increasingly dropping hints that are less hints and more “please for the love of the GODS just do it”

People's logic goes out the window when trying to say Sheik doesn't use he/him pronouns. Like "Zelda had to disguise herself as a boy so ganondorf couldn't find her!!!" Okay so then explain why ganondorf couldn't find Tetra? And she was just Zelda in disguise as a girl? There is no canonical reason for Sheik to be a boy. The only compelling reason is that Zelda is genderfluid. In this essay I will-

Will anybody be interested if I made a list of adult transmasc and Nonbinary/transneutral main/major characters in adult fantasy and Science Books.
Because I'm legit sick of the infantilisation both within and outside the community. Why is so much of the NB and transmasc rep children 😭.
Even outside of the miniscule rep Even less of it are grown adult main characters. None of that side character's love interest is a trans dude business, or a they/them appears for one page and is never seen again.
Anyway I've got a handful of characters in books I've read/on my TBR and I want to share them with others looking for this kind of rep.

this just in: uplifting people just by virtue of their assigned gender at birth in the name of feminism found to be transphobic so now we're just gonna shit on those who CHOOSE to be male presenting bc it's a CHOICE right so we can tell them they're inherently inferior right guys??!!
bioessentialism found to be transphobic so we're jumping straight into gender essentialism which is totally cool as long as it's pretending to be feminism!!!!

thinking abt this due to a bunch of other media i've consumed recently but i have a special place in my heart for the fictional characters in sort of more fantasy/sci-fi settings with a separation between their queer identity and their struggles that aren't necessarily bc of that identity itself but manifest through allegory instead. i'm thinking of gwen stacy in atsv who is absolutely a trans girl that was accepted by her dad when she came out, but also her storyline about "coming out" as spider-woman/how people can only see half of who she is, is the most transgender thing about her. i'm thinking of aziraphale and crowley who are in-universe genderless/sexless bc all angels and demons are but the thing that makes their narrative truly queer is how they live in fear of their love being found out by the oppressive systems they live under (+ how they react to it in different ways). the doctor; someone who sure is technically genderfluid because they're a being can change gender with each regeneration but also their transness (and bi/gay/aspec coding) stems from how they interact with their companions and their at-all-times-complicated relationship to their identity. like there's lots of value in queer characters whose struggles are textually connected to their queer identities and face homophobia/transphobia/aphobia head-on but i have a lot of love for stories that build worlds where queerness isn't as big a deal and is accepted by the people in them, but the struggles the characters face are still a thinly-veiled metaphor for queer reality. makes them just as complex and identifiable through that, and shows that the writer(s) have a higher level of understanding of the identities they're portraying than just an outsider pov

not to be a bitch but i'm really really tired of people talking about a character being canonically aro and "aro swag" when the character in question was implied to be aro via word of god one time
