WOO 2023

Lets talk about my top 10 films that came out in 2022! I watched a lot of films last year!

1. Everything everywhere all at once

I could write essays on this movie but putting it simply I watched this film in theatres 5 times. There was nothing in this movie that dissapointed me. Its an incredible example of nihilism vs existentialism and I cried 3/5 times i saw it. I now own it on dvd.

2. Bullet train

Bullet train I saw ever so slightly less coming in at 4 cinema visits! Fantastic visuals and soundtrack. Wonderful casting and a fabulously written script! One of my favourite examples of a film that is just fun to watch. I'll be honest on the 3rd and 4th time I was a bit bored but theres not as much going on to rewatch as EEAAO.

3. Black panther: Wakanda forever

I started crying and I dont know if I stopped? An incredibly touching tribute to Chadwick Boseman and a heartbreaking reminder of who we've lost. I think this is the best marvel movie since endgame honestly.

4. The unbearable weight of massive talent

Nick Cage is unironically one of my favourite actors and him and pedro pascal have created an amazing piece of media here. It is so funny and thats all it needs to be! Its just 2 guys getting to know eachother. Fair enough theres some action and spy shit going on but with that removed it is just pure fun.

5. NOPE

A slightly controversial one I know, However, I will never get over the wacky inflatable arm tube men. Im not even joking. They are what made me want to see the film in the first place! No but an excellent example of terror vs fear and a perfect film to discuss questions like "how far should you go for the shot" and issues like exploitation of animals.

6. Three thousand years of longing.

First and foremost its Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba enough said. This movie is gorgeous. The cinematography is beautiful and the costumes the makeup the set design the props my word they did not dissapoint! The message of the film is largely isolation but also behind that theres a sense of love is eternal and how much would you do for love. I couldn't recommend this film more.

7. Matilda

Ok this one is the music and choreography for me. It's a fun film and i loce the set design for it. The costume for mrs wormwood is to die for and I want it all. Theres not a huge moral like the others on the list its a good example of what goes around comes around and good prevails. The camerawork is amazing too.

8. The Menu

Everyone in this film is an awful person EXCEPT Anya Taylor Joy's Character and I live for it. The pacing is wonderful, the camerawork again fantastic and the characterisation!!! There is so much tension and it keeps building until you reach the climax its a wonderful. I like to think the film is about anti capitalism and the death of creatives due to the preassure of critics.

9. The banshees of inisherin

My favourite type of media is where nothing happens but SO MUCH happens. (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead is a wonderful example of this) and Banshees is an amazing example of that. At its core its about loss and lobelyness. Plus It has a RELATIVELY ACCURATE autistic character and thats my favourite part.

10. Don't worry darling

DON'T BOO ME DON'T YOU DARE. OK I ENJOYED IT. SOMEONE HAD TO! HARRY'S ACTING WASN'T EVEN THAT BAD YES IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BUT THERE WAS SO MUCH SHIT GOING ON CAN YOU BLAME HIM! plus I was living for the drama of DWD and no it was not at all about feminism or the female orgasm but it was about control and it was a fantastic film to showcase that.

OKAY ALRIGHT I'M GONNA BE LIVE ANSWERING MY THOUGHTS ON THE SONGS I am so sorry they won't be terribly cohesive

main title: AYO THIS IS THAT SONG?? I've heard this one before, didn't realize it came from this. How is it calming and like building tension at the same time. The horns slap so hard.

Stampede: Oooooh this sounds like its flowing almost, the choir and the drums all add urgency but this sounds proper epic. You were right. Drums and choir are a need now it helps so much

Burn it all: this is the sickest blend of a bunch of different styles. Never expected a trap beat layered over a choir to sound awesome but it works surprisingly well

THERES A LIGHTSABRE?? THATS DOPE!! In all seriousness this one is hitting me in the feels. WAIT IF I RECALL THIS CORRECTLY I DID CRY AT THIS SCENE IN THE MOVIE- IS THIS NOT THE SCENE WHERE THE DEATH STAR WORKS MAN i can't be crying rn I got stuff to do-

Po finds the truth: you even warned me and I nearly fell out of my chair. Geez that comes at you fast. Idk what instrument is playing the melody right after that drop, I can't tell if its a string or what but it sounds dope. Towards the end it almost has like a magical feel to it and wow does that hit different. For a split second I thought it was gonna go into the hobbit theme

Glorious purpose: major spooky vibes. I like the bassoon(?) or whatever it is, shakes your chest cavity kinda vibes. Also, I could've sworn there was a minecraft zombie sound effect. Short and sweet but gives you a sense of doom in a good way, I enjoyed that

Tai Lung escapes: I have a very sudden and profound respect for hans zimmer, more than I did previously. The little shift from deep booming instruments to like flutes and stuff in the middle hits. WOAH IT SUDDENLY SOUNDS LIKE A PORTAL SONG THATS SICK. I have sudden urgency to do my homework faster cause of the build in tempo (is that the right word? Who knows, it’s just fast). I could’ve sworn it would end like three times and it just keeps going it’s v satisfying

A blessing and a fessing: oh I can’t tell if this is bad but I got like Hispanic Jurassic park vibes from the first like five seconds. Love the suspense from the strings. Oh this lives up to its name so well like it’s suspenseful and then calming with just a hint of the previous tense undertones.

Dumbledores farewell: okay so I’ve never seen the movies (evidenced by me accidentally misspelling dumbledore as dumbledoor initially) but man yeah it just hits you in the feels. Short but sweet, it’s exactly what it needs to be. The last note kinda leaves you aching

We built our own world: also short and sweet and I love the cello (?) whatever the sounds are in the background, almost gives you a sense of megalophobia, like there’s something bigger back there. It could easily just be the high strings and yet there’s that added dimension. 10/10

Comic book: THAT BASS DROP THO OH MY GOSH easily my favourite on the playlist. Shame it’s so short cause oh my gosh that hit. And like the glitchiness of the track?? H I T S. love it

La valse de l’amour: quite the shift from the last song but like is this a waltz scene? Feels like it could be. Nice easy listening and just overall. Soft? WAIT was that a key change?? Or maybe they just started playing higher towards the end. Either way, oh that last chord sounded beautiful.

“Next on the red carpet is singer/song writer Y/N L/N, wow look at that beautiful dress!! This year at the Grammys she is up for 3 awards, Song of the Year, Best Dance Recording, and Best Solo Pop Artist!” 

The interviewer exclaimed excitedly from her podium along side the paparazzi wall. It had been a week since the songs were let out for the world and so there was definitely an electricity in the air at the awards ceremony.

“All you fans are probably watching for the most anticipated performances of tonight! Harry Styles will be singing one of his new songs from his album FineLine! Twitter is going ballistic from the recently leaked songs about is break up with L/N, we all know the cameras will be on her tonight whenever he’s mentioned! Oh look, here she comes now!”

You walked over in your beautiful award dress, safe to say you were the best dress star there. Your hair was done up and the red long dress seemed to flow around you effortlessly as you walked. 

“Hello Diane, it’s lovely to see you again.” 

You said in a polite voice, smiling to her and the camera, she handed you an extra mic, ready to drown you with questions.

“I’m going to cut to the chase— did you listen to the songs?”

Wow, this lady’s cut throat I’ll give her that.

“Oh yes! I’ve listened to all the albums nominated this year and I’m so excited.”

“Oh I was talking about—“

“I’m so incredibly grateful for the nominations, I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this album and I’m glad the fans love it as much as I do.”

You could see the Diane deflate a little, understanding you’d keep dodging questions about Harry until it was over so she moved on. 

“Yes, you’re nominated for Best Dance Recording, the music video for your song Clouds was crazy! How long did it take you to figure out how to dance while flying?!” 

You laughed, thinking back to the many rehearsals of choreography on the ground and then being connected to cables and hoisted into the air to perform it. 

“A girl never tells her secrets,” you said with a wink. 

“Well speaking of flying in a music video, I know one performance tonight will be—“

Cheers and hysteric screaming filled the fan area as someone came on to the carpet. 

“Is that? Oh look, Harry Styles enters the stage in a—, my goodness! You and him are matching!”

You couldn’t believe it.

Harry was decked out in a full red suit, hair beautifully fluffed and glimmering in the light. He had red heels that looked like Dorthy’s slippers.

And he had the faintest amount of red lipstick on, making him look like an ethereal being in red.

“Wow, we really are matching.” 

You mumbled to yourself, half forgetting you were being filmed. 

You turned back to the camera the moment you remembered, making your face emotionless so hopefully the interviewer wouldn’t pick up on your thoughts at the moment. 

You quickly thanked her and slipped off into the sea of celebrities, hearing his voice ‘hello love! So happy you could come’ to the fans hoping he would give them a signature.

You entered the award room, looking for your assigned seat. Luckily you were strangely one of the only people in there aside from a few techies working on the stage lights.

“Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Billie Elish, Kahild… Harry….” 

You gasped, basically scoffing at what you saw next. 

“Y/N L/N? Are you fucking kidding me?!” 

You started to breathe a little faster, “Oh god, I don’t think I can do a whole ceremony next to him, after the whole thing online… and not responding to his texts.”

It’s true, when he had texted you that morning, it took you 5 hours and a shot of tequila to actually open his messages.

You didn’t listen to them, like the others. 

You just… couldn’t. 

It had taken you so long to get over him and grind it into your head that you didn’t do anything wrong, he did. 

Your PR team decided the best thing to do was acted like nothing had happened because if you didn’t give a response the public would have nothing to go off of, so here you were, looking at one of the scheming ideas from someone on the Award Team to see if they’d be the first to get some action between the two of you.

“Fuck that.” 

You said to yourself, looking around to make sure no one was looking, you snatched your name paper and walked about 15 seats over and changed with Lana Del Ray. 

Because you were all in the front row, you couldn’t get farther than that, but this would have to do. You quickly put Lana’s paper in your previous seat and walked out of the room, escaping the ‘crime scene’.

At least I’m sitting next to Shawn now.

You and Shawn had gotten to be friends around a year ago when you bumped into him at the recording studio and....maybe spilled your marshmallow milkshake down his shirt.

“I’m so fuckin sorry! Oh god please don’t sue me for this, or worst, tell your fans!!” 

You rambled, padding him off with the napkins from your fast food bag. You looked up at the tall Canadian in front of you that just had a smile on his face.

 “Hey don’t worry about it, uh, I’m Shawn but I guess you already knew that.” 

“Yeah, I’ve been listening to your music for a while its fantastic, I’m—“ 

“Y/N L/N, America’s Favorite Child and Feminist thats not faired to fuck you up?” 

You grinned, “Oh you saw that video?” 

He laughed, “Hell ya I did, You punching that old misogynist groping that girl on the street is one of the videos saved on my phone!”

After that day, you both caught on like a house on fire since you seemed to be in the studio at the same time, it was great having someone to throw ideas around with at 3am when everyone else had left the studio.

“Y/N! Girl! I haven’t seen you in forever!” 

You looked up from the corner of the red carpet you had been hiding standing in. Hailee Steinfeld made her way over to you in a black dress that hugged her perfectly. 

You let out a sigh of relief, you gave her a big hug, breathing in her sweet perfume. 

“Hailee you’re a life savor, I feel so out of it here.” 

She gave you a soft look, “Cause he’s here right?”

You clinched your jaw, “And we’re fucking matching! How did that even happen? It’s literally the same shade of my dress and everything! There are so many shades his team could have chose but they went with that one! And the lipstick! He’s basically a devil personified! But he’s got style!”

You quietly rambled to your fellow singer, she squeezed your hand when the bell chimed telling everyone it was time to enter. 

“Y/N, before we go in I wanted to ask if you had listened to the songs.” 

“Uh, no… I… I couldn’t hear his voice staying those things to me so I just read the lyrics.” 

Hailee gave your bare shoulder a squeeze, “Well, I don’t want to play devil’s advocate,” you smiled at her little quip, “but I did, and what’s not in the lyrics just written is the emotion you could hear in his voice. During Drunk Thoughts, theres a part that people are speculating he’s crying while recording, trying force sing it out and, it’s just, I think it’s time you spoke to him.”

Hailee was one of your most trusted friends and to hear her say this, wasn’t surprising.

You were starting to think it too.

“But, I’m scared H, what if makes it worse?”

The final bell chimed and you both started to walk inside. “I have a feeling it won’t."

“What an incredible performance by Ariana Grande, next up is the show we’ve all been waiting for, or well I’ve been waiting for, here’s Harry Styles performing a new song from his nominated Album, FineLine!” 

James Corden announced from the side aisle. You felt Shawn subtly queen your hand, knowing there was bound to be a camera on you the whole time while Harry sang.

You took a deep breath,

No facials.

No twitching.

Calm.

The curtain came up from the stage, the set was a back cube cut diagonally so the audience could see the inside. 

Harry stood in a white suit sans a shirt. He wasn’t wearing shoes so you could see the painted red toe nails peeking out from underneath the too long suit pants. 

His hair had been messed with a bit, giving it a soft and fluffy just out of bed look.

Now he looks like an angel.

He held a red mic in his hand, and spoke into it.

“Before we start, I’d like to inform you that I will be singing an unreleased song not from my album called.”

He took a breath.

"Red.”

You curled your toes in your heels the only way you’d be allowed to release the tension you felt in your body since they were covered by your dress.

Xena: Warrior Princess Review

During Pride Month 2020, I finally got around to watch ‘Xena’. A show that had been in my to-watch list for years, but never got around to start. And when I finally did, I was pleasantly surprised. It was not what I expected and it was everything I think my 11 year old self would have loved.

The one thing that surprised me about the show, was the lack of packaging. Even though it was a fantasy, it also played with different kinds of genres too. I’ve talked about this before in my other review - ‘Xena’ was made at a time when TV had very few rules/rarely had a set audience, since there were parts of the show that were clearly for kids and there were other parts that were clearly for adults (therefore had much more flexibility). I admired how they weren’t afraid to break barriers and touch on deep themes such as religion, morality, redemption, spirituality, motherhood, forgiveness etc - even more than shows of today are able. I also loved how they played into the idea of ‘murder’ and how much it can damage a person - not just the person who commits the act, but the many people affected afterwards. I wasn’t expecting it to be that extreme. It made me think that this must of been the inspiration for ‘Game of Thrones’. 

I see a lot of comments here and there, saying how ‘cheesy and terrible’ it was but to just accept it because its part of the fun. And while like any show it does suffer from the occasional spell of bad writing (the whole of season 5) but it was also shown to be very aware of that fact and never took itself too seriously - unlike some shows I could mention. 

And regarding the ‘cheese’ factor (what 90s show wasn’t) It definitely can be, but I would call it ‘camp’ and ‘experimental’ more than anything else. (Don’t diss the poor use of CGI - I’m personally sympathetic to what was avaliable to them at the time) The style of humour reminded me of Taika Waititi’s filmmaking. If you’ve watched any of his films such as ‘Hunt for The Wilderpeople’ or ‘Jojo Rabbit’, then you know what I’m talking about. I liked how little they cared about being accurate or logical, which added to the ‘bonkers’ element in the show - which you can see in all of Taika Waititi’s films.

In all seriousness, a show centered around two women in their late twenties, who are realistic sizes (not trying to play teenagers). One of whom is a reformed mass murderer, who has lived a life experience, trying to do good in the world for the first time, picking the other one up who has no life experience prior (after they bugged them until they said ‘ok fine’) in their path to redemption. Just two women who become friends travelling the world together, fighting crime, having a laff, learning from one another without any toxicity - when suddenly when the stakes are raised - they realise ‘oh I'm actually falling in love with this person’ I have watched a lot of badly written shows in my childhood enough to know that, that’s not ‘cheesy’. I’ve never seen a story like that in my entire life. I’m not at all surprised that Russel T Davis was inspired by it while writing the Doctor and Rose’s relationship in ‘Doctor Who’ since he’s gay himself.

What’s more amazing about their love story is how they’re both develop as separate people as well. There was this video essay explaining ‘Why you should watch Angel’ the spin off series to Buffy; how ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer ‘was all about growing up and ‘Angel’ was all about being an adult. With Xena: Warrior Princess, you have both of those stories at the same time. 

Xena’s character was such a multifaceted experience to watch. And I can’t imagine anyone else who could play her as well as Lucy Lawless. What planet did they get that actress from? She's flawless! The amount of skill she has to put herself into a very physical role is astonishing. I personally had a love/hate relationship with her character all series long. Not in the way that I hated her, just that I couldn’t trust if she was all good or bad, which I know was intentional on the writers part. I haven’t seen a character quite like her before. She felt very much like a fallen angel; almost like the villain of her own story. Some of my favourite episodes come from fleshing out her character and dark past (‘Locked up and Tied Down’ is one of them) which reminds the audience that's she's not the stereotypical hero everyone expects. I loved her transformation from being this incredibly stoic warrior to being content and happy with who she is in season six, all because of a woman she fell in love with along the way. 

I’ve always thought of Gabrielle as the real hero and narrator of ‘Xena’. She’s the prime example of ‘a normal person becoming extrodinary’. Gabrielle’s coming of age story starting out as an innocent girl from a poor village dreaming of adventure, and ending as this vicious warrior who realises the ‘adventure’ wasn’t how she made it out to be is honestly the best character arc that I’ve ever seen. I loved how travelling with Xena made her realise her passion for writing (which was never going to happen in her home town, given the ‘sexist’ and ‘heteronormative’ ideas) and that she became a amazon princess like Xena. In regards to her sexuality, which is more up for debate than Xena’s (which I think we can all agree is bisexual) I personally interpret her as gay, just in terms of how she was written. Theres this moment in season 4 where she's being held up her hair, and Xena “symbolically” cuts it off ‘freeing her’. And she never really gets with a man afterwards, unless she’s being ‘possessed. It reminded me of a moment in one of Hayao Miyasaki’s films ‘Laputa, Castle in the Sky’ where the bad guy Moska shoots Sheeta’s ‘princess hair off’ which symbolises her transition from child to adult.

The cinematography was breathtaking. There was some great utilisation of New Zealand as the scenery. So was the soundtrack. You could tell it was made by experienced filmmakers. One of my favourite things about the show was the domestic elements - moments in the show where time seemed to stop - which made the world around the characters seem very real and magical. Even though it was a show that featured a lot of action/adventure, there was also this gentleness to it as well. For example, you could feel the wetness of the rain, the warmth of the sun and the clashing of the waves. This technique is used in Hayao Miayasaki’s work a lot .

The technique is referred to as ‘MA’ 空虚 meaning emptiness in Japanese. ‘Miyasaki describes this as the time between a clap’

“If you just have non stop action, with no breathing space at all, its just busyness. But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension” - Hayao Miyasaki

The episode ‘A Day in the Life’ in season two is a really good example of this technique being used.

To my understanding, they used a lot of the local actors in New Zealand, which according to Lucy Lawless, consisted of ‘African immigrants and other different ethnicites’. It was so refreshing to see such a diverse show (despite some slip ups) especially in the 90s. I appreciated the idea that if the actors or extras couldn’t do an ‘american accent’ people could just talk in their natural speech which was also very refreshing. 

The LGBT representation was surprisingly amazing. I never expected so many queer characters in one show - especially under the censors. There was this one episode where they had a trans woman - played by an actual trans actress - win a beauty contest. It made me cry. Not to mention the actress was an aids activist. It was actually Lucy Lawless’ idea to kiss her which was incredibly controversial at that time considering how everyone thought you could catch aids just by kissing. I can definitey see how it validated people back in the 90s.

When people told me that Xena: Warrior Princess was one of the greatest love stories, I thought they were exaggerating a little. But no, watching the show in context, I found out that it really is. Despite its obvious restrictions, It made me realise (regarding token gay couples today) how often television writers rely on physicality and drama to convey a ‘love story’ and how much of it is actually pandering the audience. One of the reasons why Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship felt so genuine is because it was built on mutual respect/compassion and they were also best friends. I felt like I was witnessing something very real and private. It didn’t need kissing scenes or drama to make it interesting. 

It really helped that most of the writers were queer also. There’s this opening scene in season 4, panning over to Gabrielle giving Xena a massage (metaphor for sex - because they weren’t able to show that on screen) which I consider to be one of the most iconic scenes in media - considering how I wanted to sick up my supper when I watched the 10 minute ‘empty’ explicit sex scene in ‘Blue in the Warmest Colour’. The difference when something is written by a queer women vs a straight man.

Because the creators weren’t allowed to write their love story in the normal way, due to the studio forbidding them to, they found creative ways to showcase that love on screen - which made for a very magical/sensual experience. And I can safely say, if anyone has doubts about watching ‘Xena’, whenever I expected to be queer baited at a few points in the show, I was proved wrong time and time again. I hope it was okey that I made this into a familial story. Also heads up. This one gets dark, like really fucking dark. Not as dark as like Bitter Raymond levels of dark but far darker than my usual content. But with that, I hope you enjoy.

“Where are you going little one?” Oh boy, here we go again. You’re shoulders tensed up as you heard the voice of your caretaker break through the silence. You thought that you were quiet as well. “I’m just gonna go to Eriks place. No need to worry about me pop” you said as you gave him a heartfelt smile. He gave you a tired one in return. “Oh Erik! He’s a nice boy. Tell him I said hi” he said as he petted your head. “Oh don’t worry pop, we’re gonna come back here after a while” you said as you gave your old man a goodbye hug. And with that. You left.

You loved Dobie very much.

After all, if it weren’t for him, you’d be dead. Or worse...

It had been a cold and rainy night when a wolf was rushing home. The raindrops were hitting his fur, making him damp. It had been a long and tough workday and he just wanted to go home and relax. That wolf was Dobie. He took his umbrella out and was about to start running when the sudden sound of high pitched cries pierced through the air. That made him stop immediately. Looking around for the source of the crying and screaming he found a small alleyway in witch the cries seemed to come from. As he approached the alleyway the cries only got louder until he stood before a small cardboard box. His eyes widened as he saw what was inside it. Inside of the box was a human baby, incredibly frail and thin. They were wrapped up in a red blanket, barely protecting them as rain poured down on them. Did someone leave their child here?

As he approached the baby, their cries started to die down as they looked at him. Their eyes were big and glossy. He made sure to shield them from any rain as he inspected them closer. This child was in an even worse condition then he first thought. They were not just skinny but they were practically skin and bones at this point. It made him wonder when they last got something to eat. Gently searching the babies blanket he found no note attached to them. Leaving his umbrella over the child, he walked out from the alleyway, looking for whoever coukd have left the baby.But there was no one around. No one around to help. Soon he walked back to the cardboard box, looking at the tiny human. They looked so small, so fragile, so completely and utterly helpless. He knew if he left them here, they would die. So, with a deep sigh, trying to ignore the possibility that someone could be looking for their child, he picked up the kid carefully. His arms felt shaky, it felt as if he would drop them if he weren’t careful. The baby let out a string of happy giggles and joyful gurgles as they were placed his his grasp, he could feel them curl their frail fingers around one of his claws. As a wolf who never had the chance to have children, maybe this wasn’t so bad. He decided to take care of the human like his own. His child. His pup.

And that human was you. Y/N. Growing up with Dobie was a delight, he had managed to nurse you back to health and he tought you about everything you knew today. You had so much respect for him. But you weren’t a small helpless baby anymore. You knew how to take care of yourself and there was no need for him to protect you, especially since he was getting older nowadays and you didn’t want him to strain himself for you. But this is how it went, he would often want to know where you were at all times and you just had to deal with that.

Walking towards Erik house it had starter to rain, and so, to sheild yourself from the water droplets,

you pulled out your umbrella. But as you walked you couldn’t help but feel a strange feeling of someone...or something looking at you. You tried to shake off the feeling but it followed you all the way to the park. But as soon as you saw Eriks eyes light up an d run up to you, the feeling disappeared completely. The moose tackled you into a hug as he yelled out your name. “Y/N!!!!” He did this any and every time you met him but it was always just as charming. You spun him around before bringing him closer to you body. The two of you giggled before disbanding the hug to look into each other’s eyes. “So! What’s on the agenda today?” You asked your friend as he grabbed your hand. “I was thinking we could go to your place and watch a movie? I’ve picked out a goodie!” He said, jumping up and down slightly. And so the two of you returned to your place, walking up the stairs to go to your room Erik noticed that Dobie was staring at him rather intensely. He had no time to think about it before you dragged him up to your room.

“Okey so what movie are we gonna watch?” You asked him, he started to blush at that as he took out the dvd. “I-it’s uh...it’s the notebook...I’ve actually never seen it but Isabelle recommended it to me! And i trust her taste in movies!” He said as you sat down on your sofa in front of the small tv. “Sounds good! Put it in!” You said. This made Erik tense up. “I-uh what?” He asked. “The disc Erik. Put in the disc”

And so the two of you watched the move sitting next to each other. After a while of watching, you felt him put his hoof in your hand. Looking up at him you could see a tiny hint of pink brush his cheeks. You gave him a gentle smile and rested your head against his shoulder. You could feel his heat radiating off him as he slowly returned the gesture. About 10 minutes later he looked over to you. You turned your focus off the movie and towards Erik, his eyes were soft and looking almost adoringly at you. He took in a deep breath, almost as if hyping himself up. “So...umm...Y/N...theres something I’ve wanted to tell you for a very long time...” he said, looking down at the ground. “Go on...” you told Erik. “Well...the truth is Y/N...I like you! Like! Really really like you! Every time you smile, every time you laugh, every time we see each other! It fills my belly with butterflies! A-And I can’t keep all of the butterflies inside of me any longer! How will I make room for food if I don’t?” Erik said, trying to ease up the tension with some jokes. It failed as the serious aura persisted. “...I’m....I’ve just been so afraid that you don’t like me as much as I do...and I don’t want to ruin our friendship! I would never forgive myself for losing you or scaring you away. It’s just, your so much cooler and better than me. Every thing you do is jus-“ his trail of thought stopped as he felt warm hands grab ahold of his hooves. Looking up finally, his gaze was met with your glossy ones. Tears threatening to spill as you embraced your best friend into a big hug. “Of course I like you, you big doof! I’ve liked you ever since I met you!” As Erik heard this he embraced you, letting out a breathy and relived laugh. What you said was true. You’ve had a crush on Erik ever since you met him. It was only when he started to support you and hung out with you when that crush developed into love. You had needed a lot of support as of lately, as anyone you got close to suddenly moved out without even saying goodbye. Erik has helped you through out the whole ordeal and you were so grateful for it. And now here you were, snuggling next to each other while watching movies.

That’s pretty much how the night continued. The two of you watched movies all while spooning, neither of you were really paying attention. At the end of the night Erik left to go back to his place. You were asleep by then, having fallen asleep while watching the movie. Erik had carried you to bed and quietly gone out. Strange, walking to back to his house he had gotten a strange feeling up his spine, making him shiver slightly. It had almost felt like...like someone was watching him, it’s two eyes carving into his body like a predator stalking it’s unsuspecting pray. Just waiting for the perfect moment. The perfect moment to-

“AH-“ Erik felt himself being tackled to the ground. But before he could scream he felt a large hand cover his mouth. “Don’t. It won’t end good for you...” he heard a familiar voice call out. Dobie? “I am going to turn you over and remove my hand, you aren’t gonna scream unless you wish to lose that thick skull of yours. Capiche?” The only thing Erik could do was nod, his breath feeling more and more shaky as dread creeped up his back. “Good” was the only thing Dobie said before letting go of Erik. He was still towering over him, making sure he couldn’t run away without getting killed. “W-What are you doing?” Erik asked dreadfully, his voice cracking multiple times. “Making sure you stay away from my pup. You see, Y/N thinks that I can’t fend for myself any longer. That I’m to old. But this is far from the first time I’ve done this Erik. Do you really think tens of people that all were close to Y/N just mysteriously moved out for no reason? No, that’s not what happened...” Dobie said, leaning dangerously close to Erik, eyes bloodshot and wide open. This was the first time Erik had ever seen him with his eyes open. And it scared him beyond belief. “What-what did you do to them?” He asked nervously. “This exact thing happened, I gave them all a choice, stay away from my pup...or face the consequences” Dobie said. “Now, I’m gonna ask you to move away tonight, I don’t care we’re as long as it’s far away from my Y/N!” Dobie said breathing out hot air, showing off his terrifyingly sharp fangs in the process. “That’s not fair! Y/N should be able to live as they want!” Erik said, protesting against these outrageous demands. “I would choose my next words carefully if I were you boy. Are you gonna move or what?” Dobie asked once more, putting more enforcement on the “what” , clearly getting agitated.

“Listen Dobie! I would never hurt Y/N! They’re my best friend and...and I live her!” At that Dobie slashes his claws against Eriks face. The last comment clearly struck a nerve. Erik let out a painful yell but was silenced once again by Dobie. “You know what kiddo, you’ve always been on my nerves. The only reason I kept you around was because Y/N was happy around you. But now you’ve done it, you’ve pissed off the wrong wolf!” He said. Suddenly the atmosphere got a lot more sinister as Dobie leaned down to Erik. “You wanna know a secret? I lied before. Not everyone moved out when I told them to. There was another pest just like you who were stupid enough to defy me. I think his name was moose or something. Such a small thing has no rights to try and act tough. I must say, I did enjoy what I did to him a little to much. I think it’s sort of an animalistic instinct. I’m sure you’ve heard stories about the big bad wolf, and how people like you end up in those stories? Well, how about we reenact those stories huh?” At this, Erik started to struggle and thrash and scream. “Oh quit that, it’ll only hurt for a second”

Erik started to panic, Y/N! What about Y/N! Did she know any of this?! She had to know! This was only gonna repeat over and over unless she finds out! Y/N! Y/N!!! Y/-

Eriks eyes went wide for a few moments before all of the life ran out of them.

Thump

Down on the ground laid only a husky of the moose that were there just seconds before. The metallic smell lingered in the air and it awoke something in Dobie that he hadn’t felt in a long time...the feeling of adrenaline of both the killing bite, the smell and taste of blood, AND the feeling of being able to keep Y/N to himself. It was something he had missed. No one would take you away from him again. And no one ever will.

Okay so now that i’m done crying about shadow and bone to my friends i want to make a controversial statement. Don’t bite my head off for my opinion bc 1. idc i said what i said and 2. it aint that serious these are fictional characters moving on though. I don’t think the show is bad AT ALL i really enjoyed it and seeing the inclusion of leigh and her books was so fucking cute but i will say i think combining both series into one did a huge disservice to the character development of most, if not ever, character. and i’ll explain why so (obviously) sab spoilers ahead. this also obnoxiously long so if you dont read it thats fine <3 lmao

I know going into it everyone, including leigh pretty much, was saying not to expect it to be like the books. That it was going stray away and be more like a fanfiction than the original works. Which was true, but only for the six of crows characters. The show leaned heavily and relied heavily on the plot of shadow and bone. Which, of course, makes sense but because of the inclusion of a heavy heavy re-worked six of crows plot that didnt fit the plot of shadow and bone at all it left them feeling incredibly displaced. Like on shadow and bones part every single major and sometimes even the minor plot points were followed to the number, but on the six of crows front the only thing closely followed was the nina and matthias backstory. I wont talk about every single character because i anticipate this to already be long, but the ones i noticed the most were done a disservice.

For instance Alina. Despite shadow and bone being followed so closely you dont really get to see the natural progression of alina’s character the way i was hoping we would. And that’s definitely because of the time restraints. They had to find a way to somehow balance the screen time for both separate plots so that they could hold the audiences attention for both. Like when nina and matthias plot wasnt on the screen for i think 2 episodes i almost forgot about them and what they were up to so i understand why they timing had to be so split, especially when you only have 8 hours to cover the characters of 2 over 300 page long books yknow? But that means important moments alina had to herself in the books were completely cut, and so a lot of that growth we got went with it. The the biggest thing i was disappointed to see go was the defeat she felt when she was first captured and collared by the darkling. She was feeling absolutely helpless, mal was in their hold, she had no power to do anything but sit there and let him use her. All the training she did felt pointless to her and she really was at the point of giving up. She went quiet, wouldnt speak,was basically a zombie until that moment in the fold when she saw innocent people suffering when she knew she could stop. And she found a way to break free. There were other moments like this in the book, like moments at the little palace where shelt herself getting further and further from mal and feeling like an outside on her own all over again. They tried to show it in the show but without the time to develop her life on her own at the little palace it definitely fell short.

Speaking of mal: THANK YOU WRITERS FOR FIXING HIS WHINY ASS. And while he was annoyingly whiny in the books, he is not a boring character. Not to me at least, honestly he never was. While i do appreciate them not making him so whiny, I would have appreciated seeing that same dissonance realizing alina was grisha brought about in the books. Its just like alina said, grisha were people they scoffed at and talked about in a joking way. Their lives felt miles and miles away from their own, and then to learn that she had been one the entire time. I know i know, it has nothing to do with, and alina didnt know either. BUT THAT IS STILL HIS BEST FRIEND. And obviously girl he’s in love with even if he wasnt aware of it at the time. it made him question everything he thought about grisha, and more importantly brought both of their biggest fears to light: being torn apart. In the book he doesnt deal with this well at ALL and while leigh bardugo does a great job throughout the series showing him growing to me he never got where he should have been, and the show did place him there but i think they do so prematurely. I definitely wanted him to be as understanding as he was, to take notice of how much healthier and stronger she looks since she’s not withholding her power anymore, but i did still want the tension of him wondering what it means for them, how their lives would change, because just based on laws alone she is a grisha and would typically never be someone he would have the chance to befriend but neither of them would be okay with that.

AND ON THE TOPIC OF MALINA. THEY ARE NOT A BORING SHIP. I think the only person other who would work for alina is nikolai (dont fight me on this im right), and that is who i wanted her to end up with. However, I understand why Mal was the choice. Alina has always been someone who just wanted to belong, to fit in somewhere, AND THAT IS OKAY. IT’S NOT A CRIME TO WANT TO BE ORDINARY. I know shes the main character, and has the prophecy of being the ~chosen one~ but that doesnt mean she suddenly has to alter change and rearrange herself entirely. she never wanted to be a saint, and even by the end of the series she still doesnt. Choosing to let the world believed she died so she could live a quiet life. tHAT’S ALL SHE’S EVER WANTED. And Mal is the perfect person to give her that. People who claim she gave up her life for mal, to me, didn’t understand her character. She bounced around from needing mal by her side, and when she couldnt have him there she still sought acceptance in the only other person willing to give it to her, i.e. the darkling. and then when she couldnt have it from him she’s forced to find it in herself and while she learns she doesnt need him or mal she doesnt need anyone, she still chooses mal bc she wants to be with him. she doesnt feel obligated and even later on in the books makes plenty stands on her own without him but she loves him and they honestly make perfect sense. a softer ship doesnt make it a boring one js.

NOW THE SIX OF CROWS GANG. I hate to say it, i do but they felt reduced to a form comedic relief. they had their serious moments ofc but for the most part whenever they popped up on the screen i knew a joke or gag was soon to follow. i will say kit as jesper? best decision that could have possibly been made he fucking did what he had to DO. Kaz’s development for me felt really really rushed and forced. Like he was saying things to inej he wouldnt have said so quickly and especially not while he wasnt under stress??? it honestly felt like fan service??? which im not mad at because again i dont think the show was bad at all the actors brought really great life to the crows, but it just makes me sad to see all that development and build up go out the window.  i think if they were that set on combining the crows story with the shadow and bone story it would have been so much nicer to get a sort of prequel on the crows. like they should have given them the same treatment they gave nina and matthias. so that we could see their backstories as explained in the book happening in real time like how they all came to ketterdam. i know theres no point in wishing that now since whats done is done and again I DONT THINK ITS BAD. Im just sad about all the character development and strong subtle points lost because leigh bardugo always does such a great job in dropping subtle hints and always bringing them back in the end, and that was sadly lost. STILL A GOOD SHOW STILL LOVE THE BABIES. STILL PRAYING FOR A SEASON TWO.

EDIT: IT ALSO MADE ME SAD TO SEE THEM LOSE SO MANY TIMES??? ESPECIALLY AFTER SOC WHERE THEY ALWAYS MANAGED TO WIN?? Like ofc it made perfect sense for them to be unable to capture the damn sun summoner !!! but kaz and all of the crows are meant to be the best of the best when it comes to criminals top tier and they were bested by a ball of light and a jog???? and them going home basically empty handed was kinda :// like i got it but also where did alina get that necklace lmao so yeah once again still great still love it questions had to be asked

NHL asks, random q: I THINK you like both the flyers and leafs. Who would you add/remove from the flyers slash leafs to make better but also still fit with the teams general vibe and closeness?

first of all why in god’s name did you put an actual slash in one part of this sentence and then write out the word slash like three words later. i had to read this like three times because i couldnt understand wtf was going on fsjkghskfg anon please

second of all: the leafs already removed the player i wanted gone. i wanted kapanen gone for all of this season and honestly most of the last. dont call/dont text about the freddie rumors, but im also like. generally okay with him going. like, i did cry about it the other day, but i know its probably for the best. another one is tyson barrie, honestly. not for who he is off the ice, i love him and his vibes, but like his season..........regardless of the b*bcock shit, it just wasnt a good season for him, and i think we need better dmen. sorry, tys. i do love you. but yeah thats about it tbh. also this is a pipe dream and itll never happen, but to quote a tweet i saw once, the sexual tension between leafs fans and matt tkachuk is just,, incredible tbh. id love to see him on the leafs. (also, quick tangent: i have some hot takes about the leafs locker room in that i actually dont think the ROOM is as close as we think it is. theres friendships there obviously, but i think the problem with the leafs is that there’s something rotten in the room, whether thats the chemistry or the leftover crap from b*bcock or what, i dont know, but yeah)

third of all: as for the flyers, i just want oskar and nolan to come back and frosty to get pulled up. i dont care about anything else, this team is perfect the way it is, i have literally never loved a team like i love the 19-20 flyers and i want them to continue to be this exact same team (with all our guys back and frosty) in 20-21. its constant loving the flyers hours on this blog and in my head and heart (and dick). as violet just said, “rent free but in a good way.” i literally love this team so much, literally the only thing id see different is nate thompson as the healthy scratch instead of morgan frost (tho i understand he needs development and thompson has been good etc etc ect). i just love them so much yknow

hey so I literally just started watching kny bc literally your taste is almost 1-for-1 the same as mine, and I was like 'ok I trust ghost, I got some free time and a hulu account, let's do this' and like???? yeah. it's good. i have only known my son for one day and I love him, my weird maroon midoriya boy. tl;dr you have great taste and do you have any more recs (besides mp100 & bnha which I both already watch & love)

some other recs ive got for manga/anime are:

Dungeon Meshi - no anime yet, but please read it, it feels like a classic rpg/dnd game and youll fall in love with the characters, and the plot is so much deeper than it first leads u to believe. it needs more fans its literally so good

Kekkai Sensen - ghHGHHH I LOVE KEKKAI SENSEN’S WHOLE AESTHETIC. the plot is a lil wonky ngl, but studio bones animated it and lemme just say its GORGEOUS. the city its set in feels like a living breathing thing alongside the characters and i keep going back to it just for its vibes

i started HunterxHunter last year, havnt continued with it yet just cause my brains a mushroom, but what i saw i liked! its really fun, and an anime classic, if you havent seen it.

also i dont wanna assume you’ve seen it and not rec it but if u have seen it feel free to ignore this rec: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is ALWAYS in my top 5. always and forever. absolutely incredible characters, plot execution, setting, everything.

The Promised Neverland is another new anime that i enjoyed. i will say tho its not for everyone, bc the main characters are very young children and they go through a lot of turmoil, but theyre so smart and its really thrilling to watch thru the suspense, and root for them as they try to escape their situation

and if u want a break from action and tension…… Fruits Basket is very sweet………. sometimes u just gotta watch and enjoy a goofy shoujo…. u just gotta give into the soft romance…………… 

Mushishi is also an anime to watch if u want a break from action and tension….. i love it a lot. every episode is kind of its own self contained story, and the supernatural elements are so enchanting. its a very slow-paced and mesmerizing anime

That’s all i have off the top of my head rn really! ofc I hope that you enjoy the ones u try out but dont feel obligated to stick it out just cause I rec’d it - every story is different and has different things that might interest some people but repel others. like, before lookin at any of these def look into if theres any warnings for stuff u might be squicked out by, cause i have no idea your real preferences beyond that our tastes often align, but overall i hope i dont steer you too wrong with these recs!

gonna talk about my spooky side account lore bc its unabashedly my favorite

sam and his sibling max lost their parents to to the bringer when they were really young. they were freed from terror mountain when the hannah thing went down. sam had trouble adjusting and stayed in terror mountain for awhile while max eagerly went out into world. the two kept in constant contact, until max suddenly stopped replying after he traveled to the haunted woods. sam decided to leave for the haunted woods to look for his sibling, and had a pretty terrifying time of it until he met lonnie

lonnie is a ne’er-do-well grave robber squatting in an abandoned house in the middle of the haunted woods. he found a very afraid and confused sam stumbling around and took him in with the intention of using him to help in illegal activities. sam, being cut off form the world for 10000 yrs and being generally too trusting, enthusiastically goes along with him. the two run around causing trouble and eventually lonnie finds himself actually CARING about this  sweet bori

paix was born to a terrestrial aisha and alien aisha couple and was raised exclusively on the virupets space station. her childhood had a backdrop of constant and oppressive paranoia of sloth. her family had several connections with the resistance and as a result knew several ppl who either disappeared or were seriously negatively effected by the sloth empire. she even lived through the sloth takeover of virtupets, which while thankfully was relatively uneventful on the part of the station her family lived in, it was still pretty terrifying for 10-or-smth yr old. while all this died down when paix grow up to adult, her parents were still very protective, not allowing paix or her little sister to travel unsupervised and helicoptered pretty bad. paix prided her self in being very level headed, but then one of her only friends disappeared while tracking down a sloth aligned organization and is presumed dead, paix is absolutely devastated, and in the months following his disappearance she quietly takes a small, former resistance ship from a family friend. she intended on flying it to neo central and parking it somewhere visible where the authorities would find it and return it with her apology note sitting in the seat of the cockpit, meanwhile shes in faerieland or mystery island, she doesnt know where just anywhere she’ll figure it out when she gets there. 

what ACTUALLY happened was a little more dramatic than she intended

paix initially and rightfully doesnt trust lonnie much, but he IS nice enough to let her stay at his house after she  crashed into his back yard  (is this even his house? i looks like its been run down for a while). sam was amazed in meeting a real alien and paix liked him well enough, hes a very kind guy, but still the whole situation was suspect

she probably wouldnt have stayed for long if lonnie hadnt up and died on them

paix suspected murder, from what sam says lonnie wasnt the most liked person around, but its not like theres any laws this is the haunted woods. as far as sam knows lonnie doesnt have any family, he thinks once there was a sister mentioned but he didnt even get a first name. the only family sam had left was a missing sibling he had been trying to find for a year now. so paix helps sam bury him in the back yard

paix takes on a lot of the responsibilities, like get food and telling people that lonnie is in fact dead, he wont be bothering you anymore. she even starts helping sam in his attempts to track down his sibling (shes not super optimistic but its not like shes going to tell sam that). 

at first paix thinks that sam is just very, VERY upset. he hasnt been very tired and acting a little strange, but his friend just died in front of him, its not like she has any room to judge. but as time goes on, things seem increasingly off. theres breif moments where sam seems to be his old self, but more and more he seems confused. paix finds him standing in the middle of the hall, staring at the wall. theres times where sam doesnt remember where hes been or what he was doing just moments ago. paix goes to the attic to get sam, finding no one, only to remember that sam is asleep in the in the living room, and when she goes back down staris of course hes still there, passed out on the couch like he has been all day, why was she so sure there was someone in the attic

when it becomes clear that lonnies been possessing sam, paix has a weird mix of terror and relief, though its drowned out by how PISSED she is at lonnie. she yells at him in portuguese for WHILE before he explains that he really wasnt trying to hurt sam or steal his body or anything else paix is accusing him of, hes been trapped in the ghost zone since he died and nothing he did could get their attention (he had gotten SO CLOSE with paix, she seemed to almost hear him. paix remembers all the times she felt she was being watch or heard someone screaming and just shrugged it off as a side effect of the haunted woods) 

paix could absolutely kill him AGAIN when he goes on to explain that hes now stuck in sams body. she begrudgingly agrees to help lonnie not be stuck, using a ritual from one of the weird creepy books littered around the house. it works and paix is incredibly relieved to find that sam is alright, but then immediately un-relieved to feel someone standing behind her and turned around to find lonnies spooky ghost standing there, menacingly 

the tension was immediately broken as sam  scrambled up screaming YOURE ALIVE and attempting to tackle-hug lonnie only to go through him and crash into the wall

and after paix gives lonnie a peice of her mind and lonnie profusely apologizes to both her and sam, things fall back into normality. paix and sam have found ways to make a living without doing anything illegal. lonnie is somewhat weirder as a ghost, hes taken a liking to scaring the heck out of ppl and is back to being a menace, but he seems to be more sincere with sam and paix at least 

zaf generally doesnt like photos, meko probably caught them by surprise 

zaf was a unfortunate victim of one of the many sloth-aligned splinter groups, and while they have made an amazing recovery, they remember nothing before waking up in the hospital. they were told that they had been kidnapped and eventually were found and taken in by authorities before being treated and successfully reverted to the physiology of an average mutant kacheek. zaf knows theres more to the story that authorities and their friends arent telling them, and has vague memories, but zaf isnt sure if they want to remember them. they were told by their friends that they had been a zafara before, that they were kind and generous and everyone was devastated when they went missing. zaf, surrounded by people that they cant remember, felt incredibly guilty. they hear stories about themself that they cant remember or even relate to. they ask for descriptions of themself that dont feel like them, least not anymore. zaf looks at pictures of this person that doesnt even look like them, and they cant help but feel like that person isnt here anymore.

zaf distances themself and eventually leaves neo central, taking a job at a hotel in the haunted woods. they have trouble finding a place to stay, and on their way to look at yet another apartment, they mistakenly knock on the door of a spotted bori who has THE friendliest face theyve seen since they moved to the woods

the two talk until its dark out and sam insists they stay the night bc its not safe to be out are you kidding me its the haunted woods. paix, given her past, is suspicious before zaf mentions what happened to them and she straight up offers for them to stay indefinitely (good thing too bc sam was pretty confident the place they had been on their way to see was a scheme to murder people, which seemed way more alarming to zaf than it did sam)

it takes 3 days for zaf to meet lonnie bc hes busy being an ass, slamming doors and leaving creepy messages in the mirror, culminating into jump-scaring zaf in the hallway at 3 in the morning. paix had tried to warn them but its still a spooky ghost in your apartment. sam mentioned that lonnies body was buried in the back yard and zaf looked like they were about to cry. just two sweet kids living in a dilapidated old house thats haunted by their dead friend, whose body they had bury in the back

zaf seems to be the only one concerned about the skulls in the living room, and the strange books, all of which, at least the ones zaf can make sense of, contain what appears to be spells. they mentioned where they lived to their boss and some coworkers and all hell broke loose and zaf had to leave the premises. paix apologized and said that lonnie had a reputation with the hotel staff and it kind of extended to everyone esle in the house. lonnie zipped through the ceiling and stated that they had ALWAYS had it out for him even BEFORE he stole that golf cart and the two start up another argument and the initial point is lost. 

but even months afterward, zaf cant forget the the moment of panic in their former boss’s eyes when they mentioned the house

mini is a witch living in the woods. sam and the gang think shes their neighbor, but no one is really sure where she lives. she comes by the house every now and then. sam, paix, and zaf have invited her in but always stated that she cant come in. has started to come around more frequently after zaf showed her one of the book they had found, wondering if she could make any sense of it. usually cryptic mini straight up said it was incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. the two have since working through the books to see if any of more of them had spell theorems that could ‘potentially warp the fabric of reality’ as mini had put it

★ and it’s nearing prom time, and almost everyone is the group seems to be going with someone (bill and eddie; bev and ben; mike and a lovely boy named steven)

★ and basically everyone in the group KNOWS rich and stan wanna go with each other, it’s so fuckin obvious like?? smh

★  but these boys are stubborn, alright? richie hates talking about feelings, even more so with romantic ones (he’s scared of rejection okay?)

★  and it’s unexpected, but stan also closes up when it comes to admitting who he likes (he had a rough time coming out to his family as it was) and also is 98% sure richie could never like him back and that boy is such a damn flirt?? 

★ so cue stan fuming off to the side whenever they’re all together and richie starts going off about some hot babe he wants to plow (spoiler: there is no hot babe, not unless u count stan)

★ the rest of the losers are sick of being stuck between this weird sexually fuelled tension and just wish they’d both get their heads outta their asses but also dont want to pressure them into admitting it (its a tough life for them)

★ “so what, you wanna lose your virginity at prom? how cliche” snaps stan when richie wont shut up about the hotness of his supposed ‘date’

★ “please staniel, i lost that ages ago” says richie (no he didnt)

★ “whatever, trashmouth. id be forever surprised if she even agrees to it, considering your dick has been ‘all around the school’”

★ “fuck dude youre just jealous” richie grunts and looks away

★ and stan just?? breaks?? cause “yeah, you moron, youre right. I am jealous, congratulations. so fuck you and your date, i hope you two have a magical night” and he just storms away, hot tears prickling his eyes and mouth turning down with each step

★ and richies just watching him go, eyes impossibly wide behind his glasses, and the rest of the losers are just like “well shit”

★ richie cant bring himself to move, watching hopelessly as stan finally disappears, and theres an eerily silence that follows

★ eventually he turns to see all of his friends looking at him expectantly like “well, what are you gonna do?” and richie has no goddamn idea, still too shocked to believe that actually happened

★ days later, its finally prom

★ stan decided hes not going, and he hasnt spoken to richie since his confession at the barrens

★ it hurts too much to think about, but he cant help it when images of richie dancing with some bimbo babe flash in his mind, and stan turns over in bed and groans irritably at himself, trying desperately to ignore the weight of dread lodged in his stomach

★ and then theres a pebble thrown at his window

★ he almost ignores it, figuring its one of the losers trying to get him to come outside. but the pebbles dont stop and stan doesnt want the window to be damaged so he gets up to yell at whoever is there

★ of fucking course its richie

★ “what are you doing here trashmouth? want me to embarrass myself even more in front of you? i dont have time for this--”

★ “stan, please,” richie says, and gives him a small smile “can you come outside? it wont take long”

★ stan stares long and hard, before closing the window and pacing around his room. he closes his eyes and figures, nothing else he could do could make things worse, so he makes his way down the stairs and cautiously opens the front door

★ his friends are all there, and stan looks aroud in suprise

★ eddie and bev release several party poppers, covering stan and his front porch (stan wants to clean it up immediately)

★ ben is holding up a boombox and playing some cheesy shit stan doesnt recognise

★ and then richie appears from around the corner and looks incredibly nervous, and stan didnt even notice before that hes wearing a very stylish blue suit - almost like the one he wore to stans bar mitzvah 

★ “richie...?” stan almost whispers

★ “h-hey...” richie clears his throat and pulls anxiously at his bow tie. he looks unbelievably gorgeous. “um... this is... me trying to win you over”

★ and then stan sees bill and mike hoist up a banner that has the words ‘wanna fuck shit up with me?’ written in red

★ “...what?” stan asks, confused

★ “richie see i knew that was dumb” says eddie as he gestures to the banner

★ “ugh, just,” richie sighs, shaking his head before laughing “basically, stanley uris... will you go to prom with me?”

★ and stan feels his insides turn hot and nerves creep along his skin. was this actually happening? surely not

★ he must have freaked out for ages because richies face has gone pale as he bites his lip in wait

(hand touch) thats enough for 100 years there is. so much tension. and prodigy seems so perfect on the outside but is actually in some kind of super strict fucked up program bc of her skill, and she hated it and is suffering ace pilot is the one to barge in headstrong and fuck everything up and get her out of there girl believes prodigy is amazing. really. incredible. a part of her feels like she'll never catch up . but even so watching prodigy walk into the unknown unflinchingly resolute ... it's both sad in a way bc she's being left behind but also she wouldnt have it any other way bc she thinks forward is the only way prodigy should be facing. its what inspires her. that strength ... h they definitely settle down together in the future tho bc i need ththattt

I GUESS IM GONNA DEVELOP AMBROSE MORE ive only written him as a young adult but as a teen hes angry and rebellious and got drafted, ended up being a simple foot soldier but he meets jonah and a lot changes jonah's there on top secret bullshit, same program as astrid definitely has some shit to do With Experiments. astrid has enhanced eyesight/coordination on top of being an ace combat pilot, i think jonah might be able to open up warp gates or limited pocket space mephis is evil scientist who doesnt care abt casualties

I"M GETTING REALLY FUCKED UP ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE PRODIGY (ASTRID) DYING IN THE LINE OF DUTY or well at least goes missing, presumed dead but raine just... doesn't believe it. astrid can't die. she's too amazing. there's no way fucking. huge disbelief. she refuses? raine going on a near suicidal self-appointed mission against commander's orders to rescue her, khemrin tries to hold her back but he can't, she' fucking gone speeding off on one of the fastest scouting ships she can hijack raine finding her alive but barely conscious in a damaged cockpit floating in space for who knows how long, raine unable to open the hatch and get to her but anchors her ship to hers, NOT EFFECTIVE BUT HER ONLY REAL CHOICE w/o compromising the air seal. makes the journey back astrid barely makes it to the space equivalent of a truck stop (unaffiliated) and raine calls for backup in panic and tries her best to tend to astrid's wounds an feed her and she's fucking PANICKING but trying so hard to keep it together astrid wakes up and raine's crying i don't have anything specific its just really soft and raine never Does this god when they meet again after the war, raine running her fingers over the scar left from astrid's helmet shattering h raine in a tux and astrid dressed like a princess and raine kissing her shoe sorry im gay bye

so theres this open-source trading space game thats got a buttload of content. theres nearly a dozen different aliens with their own sectors in space with their own ships and stuff, and two storylines (I think?)

more of my experiences after cut.

theres been a bunch of content added since I last played, so instead of doing any of the campaign I just hopped about space exploring. Earning money and getting cool alien gear on mah spaceships. I gots a fleet of ten heavy cruisers from the Hai (aliens far north of human space), with shields from the Wanderers (northwest), engines and power generators looted from the hostile Korath (east) and some weapons from the Remnant (ex-humans that fled aeons ago, southeast). 

Theres a piracy option in the game as well, so you can knock out, board and capture other ships, smuggle cargo through space, and even “dominate” planets (threaten them, destroy their defence fleet and get $$$/day)

theres a bunch of factions in human space as well. The republic takes up the majority in the center, freeworlds or the “dirt belt” south, syndicate northeast ish, the “deep” to the west, and pirates dotted about the fringes. 

The main campaign starts off with tensions between the free-worlds and the republic, and then a terror attack on a republic spaceport is blamed on the free-worlds. Your job to start with is to help a couple people find out where and why the nuke came from.

... you can start this quest line even if you’re a pirate, and everyone wants to kill you. even if you have dominated every single “””free””” world.

...which I might’ve done because I’m not always so nice, and I knew this, and so I figured I could get the free world ships to stop shooting me if I sorted out this civil war thing...

..but now the entirety of human space wants me to go explody-wody :s

lucky for me I have a neato alien ship with cloaking technology, incredible fuel gathering capabilities, and enough cash to bribe every planet in the system.

one mission was to covertly ferry people to the freeworlds, as they’re important peeps whom the republic dont want defecting. They were going to load some secret unmarked cargo onto my ship to make the republic think thats the shady activity I was up to. but I have a stealth ship. 

They warned me that the republic was going to search my vessel, like, they could try. If they succeeded they’d find ME which would be BAD FOR ME. 

they don’t have any fun commentary for unusual things like that, which is a crying shame.

theres something new they’ve added since I last played, which are BOUNTY HUNTERS. there were bounty missions before, where one could get bounty for killing a specific pirate. BUT NOW, the pirate is ME. I still think this is a really cool thing they’ve implemented, because these aren’t weak ships... they successfully managed to destroy one of my escorts, which 90% of planets couldn’t do.

I just, really like imagining how the story is unfolding for me, compared to how it did on my first play through over a year ago. bright eyed, enthusiastic explorer trundling about in a ramshackle ship, to a vicious marauder, conqueror of worlds, commodore of death, slipping silently through the forbidden byways in space.

Thats a pretty brave picture for someone who is wanted in all of human space, only uncloaking long enough to bribe for landing. xD

SHADOWHUNTERS TALK! (spoilers!)

okay so this post is about to be a mess?

(also i kind of feel the need to disclose that i have not and don’t intend to read the books so the only canon i’m taking into consideration is what goes on in the show)

first off, Alec and Jace have such a lovely dynamic. After all the strange incest was out of the way their story is about two brothers who would literally die for each other. And we got to see so much of that in this episode! Like oh my god. I was actually crying for the first time about this show. I SAY I cry about it all the time but this is the first time a scene has been so emotionally raw that it’s actually brought me to tears. They’re so connected to each other that if one of them died that would pretty much be the end. It BreAKS my DamN heARt!!1 byeee dani out

OK now let me just take a moment to appreciate that each of the holy trinity ships got screen time together this episode? I’m over the moon?

Clizzy has been doing it for me every episode this season. Like I definitely shipped them last season, but I really REALLY SHIP THEM NOW I AM SO INVESTED! Especially after these last two episodes. They’ve had such tender and sweet moments together and they could so easily be canon. They care so much about each other and have a lovely chemistry really seem to be able to ground one another. It’s really great. 

RIGHT OKAY TIME TO TALK ABOUT MALEC. I love malec so much. Oh my god. I don’t talk about malec nearly as much as I do all my other ships but malec is up there? Magnus really tried the true loves kiss thing. I can’t believe these nerds. That kiss broke my heart tbh it was so sweet and seemed really natural and i really love them ok. I can’t wait for them to go on their date. 

I HAVE A LOT TO DISCUSS ON THE SAPHAEL FRONT OK BUCKLE UPP THIS IS GOING TO BE AN ESSAY. 

So I’ve pretty much analyzed the hell out of Raphael’s character and while he does do a lot of seemingly unforgivable shit, I really don’t think he’s that terrible of a dude. Because most of the terrible shit he does, he does with good intentions. Whether it be for his own benefit or his clan, or even- shockingly enough- Simon’s.  All the scare tactics in season one where he tried to keep Simon away from Du Mort were to keep him away from Camille. He sacrificed a lot for Simon, in my opinion anyway, only to get betrayed in the end. So I’m kind of understanding why he’s being a royal douche this season. Theres this huge mess he is now responsible to clean up, all because he decided to trust Simon, to care about Simon. Raphael is definitely going about it the wrong way, with how utterly terrifying he’s acting towards Simon, but I almost feel like some of those pure intentions are still hiding somewhere underneath? Almost?

Like, the thing with Elaine, I instantly read it as Raphael letting Simon’s mom know that he was okay. Because Simon made it clear that that was all he wanted to do, and then he would continue to help looking for Camille. The threat at the end, although incredibly harsh and out of line, seemed more like bluffing than an actual real threat. He’s trying to get Simon on his side again. It’s not really working that well, but he’s just full of rage goodness help my son. He knows not what he does. 

There’s so much controversy surrounding this ship but I really do think with some work it could be so good. They just need to sit down and have a long talk about everything because Raphael does really seem to care about Simon. I don’t think Simon is quite there yet, because he’s fucking scared of the guy, but there’s potential there. 

And good golly could you ever cut their sexual tension with a knife. 

SIDENOTE: the coming out of the coffin line was literally a godsend. I don’t want to get my own hopes up but that felt a lot like a witty hint about his sexuality.

Method Acting (by Metis_Ink) - rated t, sormik + dezerose I WOULD DIE FOR THIS FIC its one of my absolute favs theres so much pining and tension and a FAKE RELATIONSHIP and amazing writing i was grinning and squealing throughout the entire thing

taking back the crown (by hamnet / @happyprompto)  - rated m, sormik the biggest, best adventure a fic will ever take you on. its the captive prince au you never knew you needed, SUPER easy to get hooked on, features (understandably) asshole-ish mikleo and lovable zaveid. i love zaveid so much in this fic

the color of the wheat fields (by namio / @ghostofcrux) - rated g, sormik IVE SAID IT BEFORE AND I’LL SAY IT AGAIN: please let me live in this fic. it features some of the most gorgeously poetic writing you’ll read, a comforting small mountain village aesthetic, and slice-of-life adventures with sorey and mikleo. the only regret i have about this fic is that i didnt read it sooner!!

everything stays (by SportsAnimeRuinedMyLife) - rated t, sormik sorey comes back as a seraph but he’s lost most of his memory which means i cried bittersweet tears through this entire fic, its one of the purest sweetest most uplifting things i’ve ever read

toz drabbles (by centricexit / @saltin) - not rated, sormik if im being honest this is probably my favorite work in the zestiria tag on ao3. there are five drabbles and i love every single one, the first one especially, but i honestly have enough good things to say about all of them to fill pages and pages!!! theyre all achingly beautiful, its 100% worth your time to check them out

a light that never goes out (by lyriumveins / @tactician) - rated t, sormik BAND AU!!!! BAND AU!!!!!!! BAND AU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and some of the best characterization ever. this fic was so entertaining and funny and perfect, the found family dynamic of the group was super strong and IM NOT JUST biased bc i live for mikleo playing classical piano, trust me its worth a read

for Sorey, when he wakes (by centricexit / @saltin) - not rated, sormik the epilogue fic you will cry real tears over bc the writing is so beautiful. i actually burst into tears over some lines like how do you even cOME UP WITH SOMETHING SO GORGEOUS

ambigram (by SinningShipper) - rated e, sormik HEY this is seriously some of the best smut ive ever read. the way the author dealt with corruption while still balancing sorey and mikleos personalities is just flat out amazing. it was a really really well executed concept and im really curious to know more about whats going to happen, like a smut fic has never left me wanting a plot-filled sequel but theres a first time for everything

take us to glory (by velvetcrowbars / @sogokita) - rated g, sormik yall i started crying the second i read the SUMMARY of this fic, literally before i even clicked into it!!! ive honestly never cried so consistently through a fic like i did for this one. it was SO gorgeous and i lingered over every word and also the tsoa reference really got me good ;;;;

be the overflow (by laskaris) - rated t, sormik pay attention to that major character death warning bc boyyy does that pack a punch. honestly reading this fic felt like having a hot butter knife stabbed through my chest and i loved every minute of it. the writing is rly beautiful too which makes reading it feel a very satisfying kind of painful 

Equivalent Exchange (by MatrixCube / @matrixcube) - rated t, zaveid/mikleo ok i just have to put in a very strong recommendation for this fic bc its ZAVEID/MIKLEO WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGH A FIC THIS GOOD WOULD EVER BE WRITTEN FOR THE SHIP!!!! the plot is so good and the relationship is so well developed and i would honestly be tripping over myself to praise this fic even if it didnt include my rarepair otp!! this fic is the best thing to happen to me all year please check it out
