You love Vernon. You really do. You don't think you could have lived your life without him and thanks god you didn't had to. favorite thing about each jun ship? :3

JunCheol: Jun’s respect and gratitude towards S.Coups as their group leader and eldest hyung; the way S.Coups looks out for Jun like the best leader he is + how much he understands Jun despite his “alien” actions.

JunHan: Jeonghan indulges Jun so much and is so endeared by him it makes me tear up, he’s always one of the first members to react whenever Jun talks; the way Jun seems to have a stronger sense of security when he’s with Jeonghan (ex: them going around singing to strangers together during predebut days to build confidence).

JunShua: The fact that they actually bonded from a language barrier; they seem to give off a similar image as the quiet sideline members who seem awkward (and are awkward lol), and then when they’re given the spotlight they just unleash their weirdness that’s awkwardly funny for everyone else. I think I’ve said this multiple times before already but I’m gonna say it again anyway, Joshua feels like the most “buddy-like” member with Jun in my opinion, casually close, like they’d probably still become friends somehow if they meet in an alternative universe where they didn’t become idols.

SoonHui: Hoshi seems to act more “responsible” around Jun compared to his attitude towards the others, I guess that stems from predebut days where Hoshi would kind of “take care” of Jun; from Jun’s POV at least, Hoshi is one of the members he’s known for the longest, especially as roommates, so I like to think of this Jun ship as kind of the “childhood friends” pair. You might not be BFFs or anything, but you’ve seen each other at your worst, your best, so there will always be a bond there. Also, I still remember Hoshi mentioning that Jun would tell him random thoughts before they fall asleep and that’s cute.

WonHui: Now here’s the real BFF pair. Wonwoo always notices Jun’s shenanigans or intentions and points them out to the others, he’s almost like a Jun translator; Jun seems to be comfortable with Wonwoo in a way that’s slightly different from how he is with the others, like he usually approaches other members to show them something/share a lame joke, but with Wonwoo he just gravitates to him regardless of whether he actually has something to share or not.

JunHoon: The way Woozi automatically smiles whenever Jun, well, does anything at all lol, sometimes he does it before anything even happens; the way Jun genuinely admires Woozi and treats him as a role model.

JunGyu: The way Mingyu is simultaneously Jun’s biggest fan and nagger. Also, skinshipskinshipskinshipskinshipskinship + cutest banters.

JunHao: It’s just a very comforting thought that they have each other in SVT as Chinese members. Sure, the other members treat them well and they’re not even the closest pair in the group, but they still share a pretty exclusive bond because of their shared status as foreigners (+being from the same country, obviously). It’s like when you’re studying abroad and meet other study abroad students from the same country, you might not be BFFs but there are still things you can only share, relate, and talk about among yourselves.

SeokHui: DK reacts to Jun’s jokes well and is probably the one who most frequently plays along with them (which Jun had also expressed appreciation for), and I’ll always remember DK’s serious words of comfort to Jun during that one group eat live.

BooJun: Another Jun ship with hilarious banters; the way Seungkwan is simultaneously done with Jun but also easily endeared by him; I strangely still can’t get over how they were roommates in Japan at some point and when they returned, they decided to hangout outside together instead of resting on their day off.

JunSol: The way they seem to just “get” each other and are often described as “aliens” together by other members; Jun seems to have a soft spot for Vernon among all the dongsaengs, I’d argue that he’s the only one Jun really treats as a dongsaeng, too. For any other dongsaeng-Jun pair it feels like the ages should be reversed, but to an extent it’s like Jun actually babies Vernon and it’s adorable. Also, piggybacks since predebut.

ChanHui: Another member with a Jun radar; Dino’s constantly keeping Jun included in group activities/conversations and always seeks him out, he even once said that if he were the eldest hyung he’d pay special attention to Jun because he’s always doing stuff by himself; the fact that Jun refers to Dino as his dance teacher (which was also the case during predebut days) and sees him as a standard he has to work towards.

mingyu: Somehow the universe had destined for you and Mingyu to become best friends, and that is what the two of you have been since childhood. As polar opposites, Mingyu had always encouraged you to go on adventures, meet new people, live a little. In return you would encourage him to stop failing classes and spend more time in the library with you rather than on the running track. You trust each other completely, so why is it that lately you’ve both been hiding something from the other?

Seungcheol: The school’s #1 golden boy. He has a few important titles under his belt; Captain of the Track and Field Team, member of the Student Council, Student Mentor, top of all of his classes (except for history because of a certain someone), so it only makes sense that he’s in the running for valedictorian. The boy exudes kindness, confidence and honesty, but there’s one skeleton he’s been desperately trying to hide in the closet. Just like you, he’s only trying his best.

Jeonghan: With ethereal beauty and an angelic voice on his side, Yoon Jeonghan is the school’s second official golden boy. As a member of the Student Council and the choir throughout his entire high school life, he’s developed many connections. Although this golden boy has a golden voice, don’t put it past him to cause a little mayhem every now and then. However, becoming the emergency-voted Student Council Vice President halfway through the year was certainly not part of the plan.

joshua: Joshua Hong completes the trio as the final golden boy; possibly everyone’s favourite if they absolutely had to choose. A member of the Student Council, a Student Mentor, in the choir, and known to volunteer outside of school on the weekends, how could anyone not think highly of him? He’s considered the most quiet and reserved of the golden trio, but everyone knows Jeonghan couldn’t possibly get up to all that mischief on his own.

groupchat: 🎶🎨 creative leaders 📚🌟

jun: Jun didn’t really know what he was expecting when he moved high schools a few years ago, but becoming the exchange-student-turned-International-Leader was definitely not it. Anyone from the outside looking in would say he’s perfect for the role; he’s obviously from another country, he’s smart, polite, well-spoken, not to mention he’s been doing a great job with International Leader “affairs” and “responsibilities”. But if you asked him about his role in the school, he would politely excuse himself from the conversation. Not because he doesn’t like the attention, but rather he kind of has no idea what he’s doing... fake it ‘til you make it, right?

soonyoung: The amount of times you have witnessed this boy challenge unsuspecting new students to dance battles in the hallway is quite ridiculous, but unsurprising. Soonyoung, who would prefer it if you called him “Hoshi”, wears the title of Dance Captain like a badge of honour; his apparent life mission being to recruit the school’s most talented and promising dancers into the Dance Team. Everyone in the school could vouch that Soonyoung was the most passionate dancer on the team, whether they were a friend of his or not. The newest recruit has especially impressed him, but there’s someone else entirely that’s caught his eye.

wonwoo: Outside of attending classes, there are two things you could safely bet on that Jeon Wonwoo would be doing; manning the desk in the library, or busily editing the school paper, so bumping into each other is more likely than not for the two of you. School life, and life in general, is quiet for Wonwoo, and he prefers it that way. However, a mysterious letter changes everything, and suddenly Wonwoo finds himself receiving a lot of unwanted attention.

jihoon: Band Captain, Student Council Vice President, and first-chair clarinet were the titles Lee Jihoon unexpectedly dropped halfway though the year, sparking the school’s latest rumour mill. He had caught everyone by surprise with his sudden resignation from those previous responsibilities. Even the teachers knew that no one could ever fill those now-empty shoes. You of all people would know, because you were the first friend he ever made in high school.

seokmin: If Dance Captain Soonyoung had any competition in the passion department, it would come from none other than Choir Captain Seokmin. When he’s not in the choir practice room, you can easily locate him by following the sound of intense vocal warm-ups. Seokmin’s popular in school for being an all-round entertainer and having a smile that could help stop wars. So why did finding a peculiar letter in his locker one day turn that signature smile into a frown.

minghao: Although he’s been attending high school just as long as you have, Minghao continues to remain a mystery to most. One thing that’s for certain about the boy is that you can always find him with a camera in hand; dedicated to his job as the photographer for the school paper, and posting artistic shots on his Instagram. Soonyoung has been begging him to join the dance club nearly everyday for a year after Jun let it slip that Minghao used to b-boy under the alias The8, who seems to be the only one who knows anything about the photographer.

groupchat: y/n + the three musketeers 💯

Seungkwan: When the Student Mentor program was first introduced, you were assigned two new students, Seungkwan being one of them. He and Vernon started the Outside-In podcast during their first year of high school and have gained a significant following ever since. Having made an impression on the boys whilst mentoring them, Seungkwan has dedicated himself to being your loyal supporter and friend, threatening that anyone would “catch these hands” if they dared to even look at you funny. If he’s not hanging out with Vernon, you will most likely find him in the choir practice room.

Vernon: The second student you were assigned with when the Student Mentor program was first introduced. As the other half of the Outside-In podcast, a member of the basketball team, an employee at the convenience store near the school, and a regular at the skate bowl, everyone and their dog knows who Vernon is. He and Seungkwan have attracted the attention of many both in and outside of high school with their (unscientific) advice, coverage of school “news”, and stories of their hectic adventures. So with word coming in about some seniors receiving mysterious love letters in school, what do the duo have to say?

Chan: The latest student to be assigned to you under the Student Mentor program, and you’ve taken him under your wing ever since. Resultantly, so have Seungkwan and Vernon. Although he’s no longer a newbie at school, Chan always comes to you with whatever problems he has (homework-related or not). You spend many after school sessions tutoring him in the library. Chan has also made a great first impression on those in the arts department as the newest and youngest member to be recruited into the Dance Team.

really long a/n: hi! this came way later than I wanted it to, sorry if you were semi-anticipating it. i wanted to make some cute profiles for everyone (which took way too long lmao) and give y’all some insight on how they’re going to be in this au. also it’s important to mention that i wrote everyone except seungkwan, vernon and chan as being the same age (seniors), i know that’s super unrealistic and hectic but it’s an au just roll with it. oh also i’m kind of mashing up every single high school trope in history the rules don’t apply here i’m sorry. i’m having second thoughts about going ahead with this fic because uni’s just started for the year and i’m going to get real busy real quick hahaha... but hopefully i’ll be able to update whenever i can. in saying that i’m planning on having pretty big updates/chapters because i have a full on storyline planned out in my head which means a lot of time will be spent on drafting rather than posting, but i’ll try to post filler/smaller updates to compensate. this is probably overly ambitious because i’m the most unmotivated person ever, but i hope to just really enjoy writing this. please be patient with me and i hope you all enjoy reading along xx

Thoughts:

Say the name!

Honestly, too many members :'(

All very passable at dancing, no one is bad. All are decent at worst, which is why their choreo is usually so fantastic

Self produced

Also all good at singing

Pledis is doing the best they can to ruin them but not working out thank god

Surprisingly only span ~4 years in age despite the number of members

Pretty much always in sync with their choreo, even at 2x, it's out of anyone's league

Broken up into units of 4-5, definitely makes it easier to keep track of them

Their part switch versions are HILARIOUS, because they don't just assign other parts and try their best they completely try to steal and ruin others' parts

Member Breakdown

S. Coups: The fearless leader. Very manly looking but also just a sweetheart. I adore his singing voice. One thing I personally really respect about him is he tends to sit back and let the other members talk and shine more than himself, and makes sure they're very well taken care of. An absolute sweetheart. Leader of rap unit.

Jeonghan: The pretty one, like literally looks like a fairy prince. Has had long hair several times. A very masculine vocal tone but very sweet voice. Kind of a savage, but also sweet. Pretty chill and low key unlike a lot of overexcitable members.

Joshua: From LA. Sophisticated, usually pretty in control compared to the rest, believably one of the oldest members. Usually sings in falsetto in his parts. Decent dancer.

Jun: Unexpectedly over dramatic and loud. Very expressive and does not seem like one of the older members. Honestly a major sass, let's be real. So relatable. 1/2 of China line. Great dancer with his super long arms and legs. Very handsome, tall.

Hoshi: 1/3 of BooSeokSoon, the chaotic trio (and subunit). Can choreograph. Very good vocalist, amazing dancer, decent rapper, the all-kill. Hilarious. Jokes around a lot and brings a lot of energy. Leader of performance unit. 10:10!

Wonwoo: LOW voice. Wears glasses a lot, reads a lot, tries to expand his knowledge. Master gamer of the group though he's stopped playing lately and started going to the gym more. Low voice rapper, also good singer. Enjoys watching the chaos from the sidelines.

Woozi: More reserved and quiet. Savage AF and can be mean. Producer for the group, has created so many awesome songs. Great vocalist, great dancer, decent rapper. Kind of the king of the group. The other members fear him sometimes lol and don't like to make him mad. Short, and often teased for being small. Leader of vocal unit.

Dokyeom: 1/3 of BooSeokSoon, the chaotic trio (and subunit). Incredible vocalist and absolute DORK. Has a really neat voice with a lot of grit and character to it, yet can still belt the high notes. Often the instigator of whatever's going on. Has performed in a musical.

Mingyu: Tall boi. Thinks he's really good looking. One of the semi calm members, but will join in on craziness once it's begun. Can rap and sing well. Like a very big puppy a lot of the time, can get kind of lost.

The8: Sweet baby who loves Kermit. Also a total savage. Martial arts, dance. 1/2 of China line. Seems older because he gives off a cool, sophisticated vibe, but isn't. Fashion, art, can produce his own music and choreograph his own dance. Xu. Ming. Hao.

Seungkwan: 1/3 of BooSeokSoon, the chaotic trio (and subunit). BFFs with Vernon, they get up to some crazy shit. THE overdramatic, extra one. Also great MC and hosts on shows, etc. Incredible voice, like seriously. Unique vocal tone. The mood maker of the group, when he's not there it's not the same happy atmosphere. Can also rap decent.

Vernon: King of facial expression, reacts to the others all the time. (Like seriously stop a video of theirs and check every now and then). Good rapper, can also sing well. BFFs with Seungkwan and does a lot of weird stuff with him.

Dino: Amazing dancer, can choreograph. Maknae, but more mature than a good number of other members XD. Extremely multitalented, can sing and rap very well along with his dance. Has little patience left for the rest of the members (#savedinofromsvt). Gets teased a LOT as the maknae.

Hello!! So, I've recently taken an interest in ASTRO? And I was wondering if y'all knew of any performances/comeback stages/ whatever that would be good to watch to get a good feel of the group? You know? Lol, anyway, thank you for your time!!

i legitimately got so excited when i saw this ask bc one of my favorite things abt astro is their live stages and i have an entire playlist of my favorite live stages (from all my groups) so i’m hype to rec some for you!! literally any astro performance is good, they have such an incredible energy on stage and unique stage presence that they blow me away in every single one. i’ll go from debut up through crazy sexy cool [under the cut]

- quick breakdown of this song, it was like their predebut debut; it was the featured song in their predebut webdrama ‘to be continued’, and so the mv was released before they debuted

- okay so now we’re officially at debut; their concept for their first four mini albums was to make one for every season, and hide & seek is the title track of the first one, spring up; also has the Most Iconic astro dance move imo (the lil pyramid thing they do @ the beginning w bin on top)

- she better get ready for a shit ton of moments with

- you’ve been an intern at pledis for a couple of months now

- and during those months you found this one svt member that you really really really click with:

- PPU PPU BOO SEUNGKWAN

- you love his sass and he loves how you react to it

- the conversations you guys have are just so interesting too, and they’re nEVER quiet

- he’s practically screaming and making a fool out of himself whenever he’s with you because he loves hearing you laugh

- Seungkwan is so full of energy whenever he’s around you like

- he’d be practicing a extremely difficult dance in the practice room with the rest of svt and feel like he’d rather die than get the moves right

- but then you’d walk in and Seungkwan would spring from the dead like

- your amazing friendship with Seungkwan is probably one of the best things you’re getting out of the internship

- and although you know that the other svt members find Seungkwan’s attitude is 5x more annoying when he’s with you

- you didn’t know your friendship was really starting to bother a particular member:

- “Hansolieeeee~” Seungkwan comes barging into the practice room to see Vernon sitting by himself on the floor, back leaning against the wall mirror

- “mm?” Vernon hums but doesn’t look up from his phone. He knows the loud voice can only be Seungkwan’s

- “wanna go get some bubble tea? Like right now?” Seungkwan grins widely, but his positive gesture is met with a dull response

- “I don’t know,” Vernon’s eyes are still glued to his phone

- “come on,” Seungkwan pulls on one of Vernon’s arms. “It’ll be fun because-”

- “y/n will be there, I know,” Vernon huffs

- “you never hang out with us,” Seungkwan pouts. “Why can’t you just give today a chance?”

- “you go have fun with your little crush. I’ll be here,” Vernon says coldly

- “HANSOL, FOR THE LAST TIME, I DON’T LIKE HER LIKE THAT,” Seungkwan gets defensive

- “and you’re my best friend. I can’t just leave you here like this...” he looks down in guilt

- “well then go have fun with your new best friend then,” Vernon says as his eyes avoid Seungkwan

- (now a lot of us would expect Boo to get offended by this statement and sass the living shit out of Vernon)

- (but nah)

- Seungkwan snickers. “Is my best friend... jealous?”

- “I’m not, I just...” Vernon struggles to make up an excuse

- “HAH YOU’RE SO CUTE, JEALOUS OF SOME GIRL HUH...?” Seungkwan collapses and rolls on the floor, dying of laughter

- Vernon doesn’t respond and keeps busy on his phone

- “okay okay, I’m sorry,” Seungkwan collects himself again. “But for real, I can’t replace someone like you. Ever. You’ll always be my best friend, and no other person can say otherwise.” VERKWAN FEELS YO

- “just please, I’d love to hang out with the two of you guys. I think you’ll get along well... I mean there’s gotta be a reason why I’m so close to both you,” Seungkwan justifies

- Vernon contemplates for a long moment

- “... okay,” he says hesitantly

- “AYYAYAY OMG OKAY LET’S GO LIKE RIGHT NOW BC Y/N IS WAITING OUTSIDE THE BUILDING AND I DON’T WANT TO MAKE HER WAIT SO LONG,” Seungkwan screeches says excitedly as he pulls Vernon off of the floor and onto his feet

- Vernon smiles as he gets dragged out of the building

- and upon arriving at the building’s entrance, he sees you casually waiting on your phone

- while keeping quiet, Seungkwan pushes Vernon closer to you, making you look up

- “uh hello, I’m Vernon,” Vernon smiles plainly at you

- “oh come on,” Seungkwan lightly punches Vernon. “She knows you and you know him. Don’t act awkward like that.”

- “call him Hansol if you want,” Seungkwan looks to you and pats his original bestie. “He’s usually not like this, so please forgive him, y/n.”

- “ah okay,” you smile. “Nice to finally hang out with you today! Seungkwan has told me a lot about you.”

- “same here,” Vernon replies and his smile grows a little. He points to Seungkwan “This guy just doesn’t know how to shut up when he’s talking about you sometimes,” he says as he nudges Boo in the gut

- you laugh. “I think he just needs to learn how to control himself in general,” you respond

- “ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, let’s not gang up against me so soon,” Seungkwan comes in between you and Vernon to link arms with the both of you. All three of you start heading over to the bubble tea cafe

- and during your trio date

- it’s pretty awkward at first

- but then you bring up something dumb or embarrassing that Seungkwan has done before

- and Vernon would be like

- “oh my god I thought I was the only one who saw him do that before.”

- “yeah I know, I can’t believe he actually sneaks his plush toys to the company building everyday. I always catch him talking to them when he’s alone. It’s hilarious.”

- “I know, right?” Vernon would laugh. “You know there was this one time he-”

- “OKAY THAT’S ENOUGH,” Seungkwan would have to shut up the both of you before he can be insulted any further

- and for the rest of the time at the cafe, you and Vernon are just snickering at each other every time Seungkwan tries to change the subject from something he can’t/doesn’t want to talk about lmao

- overall the bubble tea date turns out to be a great time

- while Seungkwan goes to use the restroom, Vernon leans over to your side of the table and asks

- “hey, if you ever need some more Seungkwan blackmail, I gotchu.”

- you shake your head and laugh. “I could definitely use some of those.”

- “yeah, if you give me your number, I can send you a few right now if you want,” Vernon smiles and holds out a hand, which you place your phone in

- as he’s entering his contact info into your phone, you spot Seungkwan returning from the restroom

- “hurry hurry,” you lean over to Vernon. “He’s cominG.”

- “okay, aaaaand done,” he smiles as he finishes up filling out his profile

- he quickly slides your phone back to you before Seungkwan can spot the suspicious activity

- on the way back to the company building, you and Vernon are separated by Seungkwan once again

- but as Boo chats away, you send your new friend a text

- you: “now would be a great time to send some blackmail, don’t you think?”

- upon receiving the text, Vernon looks to you, then to Seungkwan, then back to you

- a huge smile flashes across his face and he begins typing away at the keyboard

- Vernon: “you right” “hold up”

- Vernon: <img231>

- OH MY GOD this is g o l d, you think to yourself as you try to hold back the laughter

- you: “YO I DIDN’T THINK THEY WOULD BE THIS GOOD”

- Vernon: “like I said, I gotchuu”

- and the two of you silently laugh at each other as the blackmail keeps rolling into your phone

- until

- “HEY,” Vernon accidentally responds aloud. An embarrassed smile spreads across his face

- Seungkwan turns to the both of you

- oh shit, you and Vernon think simultaneously

- silence sets in for a moment

- “... ANYWAYS,” Boo continues his conversation with himself

- Vernon looks to you and silently wipes his forehead, mouthing the words “phew”

- you sigh in relief

- Vernon: “my bad omg”

- you: “it’s okay Seungkwan won’t suspect anything this early on”

- you: “he’s super oblivious to everything when he’s on chat mode”

- Vernon: “damn it’s like you’ve known Seungkwan for as long as I have lol”

- you: “lmao I think he’s just super predictable”

- Vernon: “naw, comprehending Seungkwan takes talent”

- Vernon: “and lots of patience”

- and the two of you kinda start of your meme friendship from there how beautiful :’)

- Over time, you guys text more, and then texting leads to talking irl, and then meeting up a few times a week

- and it just comes to the point where the both of y’all are practically ditching Seungkwan for your own hangouts lol sorry boo

- the both of you become so comfortable with each other to the point you can freely unleash your inNER MEME SELVES and it’s gREAT LMAO

- all you guys do together is secretly take pictures of other people around the building and make memes out of them I’m so mean I’m sorrY PLEDIS

- and on most days you’d snap pictures of each other and text them as end-of-the-day (aka i-kind-of-miss-you) messages aw

- one day, Vernon’s gonna be hanging out with you and trying to take pictures of you off-guard without catching your attention

- he wouldn’t check them until the end of the day, when the both of you text each other for your nightly meme exchange is that even a thing?? o o p s

- he’d look through what he managed to capture from earlier

- but

- all of the pictures he took of you

- they’re not off-guards

- they’re bomb ass candid photos

- you’re smiling, laughing, looking at him, just being super genuine in the moment

- and Vernon just thinks:

- he smiles as he swipes through the pictures over and over again

- but then another thought hits him:

- then a text notification comes in

- “they’re just nice pictures, that’s all,” Vernon tries to cover it up but his blush gives it away

- “mmhmm, ‘nice pictures’ my ass,” Seungkwan isn’t buying it mY FAVORITE PART OF SEUNGKWAN IS...

- “and your smile isn’t like that all the time, I know you,” Boo adds. “It’s really cute right now, and that says a lot.” VERKWAN I TELL YOU

- “okay, fine. You caught me,” Vernon gives up. “But it’s not like anything is gonna change because I like her.”

- “actually,” Seungkwan clears his throat. “knowing you so well comes with the duty to inform you with all of the dumb things you’ll do that’ll make your crush obvious to y/n. May I?”

- “Oh my God,” Vernon smiles and rolls his eyes

- “Oh and by the way,” Seungkwan leans over to Vernon and whispers. “If you don’t make it obvious, I will.”

- “SeungkwaN.”

- “Okay fine, I’ll try not to,” Seungkwan replies. “AnYwAyS...”

- IT’S CRUSHING HABIT ASSESSMENT TIME WOOT !!

- Seungkwan’s right when he says that Vernon will be doing things that’ll make his crush obvious to you

- because for one, he’s gonna have to discontinue that end-of-the-day meme exchange because he’ll just be snapping really cute candid pics of you instead:

- you: “okay memesol, don’t disappoint me today”

- you: “where’s the y/n meme I’ve been waiting for?”

- Vernon: “sorry I ain’t doing that anymore”

- you: “wait really?”

- and although he may seem pretty calm about hinting here, he’ll probably slap himself in the face a couple of times for slipping up

- but don’t worry, meme time with memesol will still be fun because he’d still be willing to make a meme out of himself for you not like he has any control over that anyways lol

- also, he’d be super blushy whenever you guys have accidental skinship moments nkadbkadfbsd

- like even the slightest touch of your hand would trigger him, and he’s definitely one to stutter afterwards

- last crushing habit he’d have would be fuCk tOns of eye contact omg

- and it’s not just your casual, everyday eye contact

- I’m talking about the kind of eye contact that stares you down to the very core of your s o u l

- okay maybe not that deep, but Vernon’s eye contact with you would just be full of admiration

- trust me, he tries to pay attention to the conversation, but when he looks into your eyes, he gets so thrown off and it’s kinda of cute:

- and sad enough, sometimes you’ll mistaken this constant staring for lack of interest and/or tiredness:

- “dude, are you alright?” you ask with a concerned face. “you seem kind of tired...”

- “aw no no I’m fine really. I’m just-” Vernon tries to snap out of his daze

- “hey, if you want to go relax or take a nap instead of hearing me blabber about nothing, I totally understand,” you explain. “Your schedule doesn’t always come easy, and I want you to rest if you need to.”

- “no y/n, really I’m fine. I love talking to you, and you know that. And even if I was tired, I’d still want to talk to you.”

- Vernon begins to blush and so do you

- “ah, I’m sorry if that didn’t come out the right way. But you get me, right?” he laughs nervously

- overall, Vernon is a pretty shy crusher, but he wouldn’t be any less of a meme for you while he’s crushing so don’t worry

- now when it comes to confessing, this guy would want to make it short, simple, and all planned out in his head

- but hey, that’s probably not gonna happen because we caN’t forget about Seungkwan in this equation !!1!1!1!1

- so one day you’re eating dinner with verkwan peacefully when all of a sudden

- “it took me awhile to realize that you guys have been hANGING OUT WITHOUT ME FOR SOME TIME NOW,” Seungkwan bursts his bubble. “CARE TO EXPLAIN?”

- “uhh... you’ve just been really busy I guess?” Vernon shrugs

- “Hansol, wtf we have the same exact schedule for god’s sake,” Seungkwan snaps

- “I think it’s all the meme-ing we do,” you laugh and say in an attempt to save your side with Vernon

- “yeahh. We like to play around with memes a lot and we just thought... you know... you might not be too interested in all of it???” Vernon smiles timidly

- “mmhmm, suUUUuuure. Like anyone said I would rather hang out with myself than listen to you guys talk about memes all day,” Seungkwan says sarcastically and rolls his eyes

- before you could justify your point any further, Vernon’s phone rings

- “oh, sorry guys,” he gets up from his seat. “Let me just take this call.”

- you and Seungkwan watch Vernon leave the table and walk away

- and once he’s out of sight...

- “okay, y/n,” Seungkwan looks you dead in the face and leans closer from the other side of the table. “What’s the deal with you and Hansol?”

- “why? Are you jealous of our friendship or something?” you laugh at him

- Seungkwan shakes his head. “No no, I don’t have to worry about that because I know you can’t replace MY spot as his best friend. What I’m trying to ask is...”

- “... are you guys dating? BehiND my baCK?”

- your face goes red

- ofc you guys aren’t dating

- but the fact that Seungkwan is suspecting it makes you think about how suspicious your friendship with him looks

- do we really look like a couple?

- “w-what? No, what the hell, Seungkwan,” you try to cover up your flustered appearance

- “I mean,” Seungkwan scoffs. “If you two are gonna hang out without ME, there’s obviously gotta be something going on...”

- “It’s funny you think we’re dating because I don’t see any reason why he’d like me like that,” you say as you fake a smile and play around with your food.

- Seungkwan stares at you in silence for a moment

- and then he laughs

- hystererically

- like he’s about to fall of his seat

- “yo are you okay, Boo?” you ask the dying fellow

- “no no no, I just-” Seungkwan tries to catch his breath and wipes the tears from his eyes. “Oh my god, y/n.”

- “what’s going on with you???” you say with concern

- “no, I should be asking you that question,” Seungkwan collects himself.

- “I don’t get it,” you reply

- “y/n, I hate to spoil it but how are you not picking up on Vernon’s obvious crush on you? What is going on with you?” Seungkwan smiles widely

- your face lights up at Seungkwan’s words

- does he... really like me?

- “Are you being serious right now?” you ask for reassurance

- Seungkwan sighs. “Hansol has been liking you for awhile now. And I know he really likes you because he doesn’t even talk to me about it. He tells me almost everything, but nothing when it comes to you.”

- “And that just tells me that you really mean something special to him.”

- “I mean pff, not as special as me but you know... pretty close,” Seungkwan fakes a hair flip

- you shake your head. “I don’t want to believe you,”

- Seungkwan’s eyes widen. “Wait why no-”

- “but for the record, I’ve definitely liked him for awhile,” you cut him off

- Seungkwan smiles but his face contorts at the sight of Vernon coming back. “Good to hear, but looks like your ‘boyfriend’ is walking back riGHT NOW, SO ACT NATURAL.”

- “SEUNGKWAN HE’S NOT MY BOY-”

- “Y/N SHUT UP HE IS- OH HEY HANSOL, WHAT’S UUUUP?” Seungkwan sweats nervously, but Vernon doesn’t suspect a thing

- so after the dinner at the restaurant, the three of you walk back to the company building so that you can head home to your apartment from there

- but the boys agree that it’s too dark outside for you to walk alone

- and of course Seungkwan, being the slick one out of the bunch, complains about one of his feet hurting and insists on staying behind at the company building actor kwan at his finest

- so it’s just you and Vernon walking together

- and although you guys usually talk comfortably

- the walk home was different

- no one says a word

- it’s pretty awkward

- the both of you are busy thinking

- “alright,” you say at the foot of your apartment building. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow like usual?”

- “yeah, that’s... that’s fine,” he rocks back and forth on his feet. “Like usual.”

- after exchanging “good night” greetings, you proceed to enter the building, but

- “I like you.”

Seungkwan - Every time you come up he would pretend to get scared and be like “Omg y/n, your face is so scary.” just to get a reaction out of you, would be really proud of how realistic your acting is but he’s also lowkey scared of you now and those screams were actually real.

Vernon - Doesn’t even realise you’re in the movie until it zooms into your face and then spends the rest of day pretending he knew and telling you how amazing you were. Is really impressed though and slightly embarrassed because he spent the first half of the movie thinking about how pretty the villain was.

Dino - Would continuously think about how talented you are and get really flustered when you ask him if he liked the plot because he just spent the whole movie fan-girling over how amazing your acting was. Also screams thought the whole movie brushing it off as also playing the part to make the movie more scary.

now let's talk about james madison!!!

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ALRIGHT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JAMES “JEMMY” MADISON JR. AKA A 5 FOOT 4, 120 POUND CAN OF WHOOP ASS

So here’s the deal about James Freaking Madison. The dude has a ton of titles: Father of the Constitution, Author of the Bill of Rights, 4th President of the United States, etc. etc…..there’s a lot more, but I’m not gonna list them all out right here. He’s quite deserving of those titles too, because I can’t think of any other Founding Father who did quite as much as he did in crafting the American political and legal landscape. But despite all of his accomplishments, he doesn’t get nearly enough credit. Jefferson gets a huge ass monument in DC and his face is plastered on a mountain, Washington gets a shit ton of stuff including a city and state named after him, Hamilton gets the ten dollar bill and a musical…what does poor Madison get? Nothing. Madison Square Garden might be the closest thing to a Madison monument, and then of course there’s his home Montpelier, but Montpelier doesn’t get nearly as much attention as Jefferson’s Monticello or Washington’s Mount Vernon.

Needless to say James Madison deserves a helluva lot more attention than he gets. And I’m not talking from a place of bias when I say this (even though he is, in fact, my favorite founding father) because he did A LOT for this country. If this 5 foot 4, 120 pound can of whoop ass didn’t come into the American political arena, I really don’t think the American Republic would have lasted very long.

So let me start talking about James Madison.

James “Jemmy” Madison Jr. was the eldest of 12 children and was born and raised in what was considered the “frontier” of Virginia. He also suffered from partial epilepsy. Or, at least, that’s what modern historians call it. He only directly referenced it once and he described it as “attacks resembling epilepsy, and suspending the intellectual functions.” What does this mean? Well, it’s hard to detail exact symptoms 200 years later, but the best guess historians have is that he probably didn’t suffer from full seizures (where you would black-out, collapse, foam at the mouth, etc.) but that it might have compromised his “intellectual functions.” Maybe he couldn’t move or speak, maybe he couldn’t understand things, but whatever happened to him during these attacks he usually ended up bed-ridden for a few days to a few weeks. His attacks only seemed to happen, though, when he overexerted himself. For example, when the revolution started, he joined the Virginia Militia to fight for the cause only to drop out after a few weeks after suffering from an attack. He also suffered from an attack at the end of the Continental Congress.

These attacks, though, never deterred him from getting the job done. He was tireless and determined in his work. Between a relentless work ethic and a brilliant political and tactical mind, he got a lot of shit done. He wasn’t the warmest guy though, at least not at first. Many people considered him cold, aloof, reserved, etc. He was, like his friend Jefferson, the shy and introverted type. You know how many times people on tumblr say they’ll hide up in their room if there’s a stranger in the house? That’s exactly what Madison did. Seriously - when someone came to visit Montpelier he briefly introduced himself and then just stayed in his room practically the entire time the guest was there. Then, of course, there’s the time when he was attending HIS OWN INAUGURATION PARTY and complained that all he wanted to do was go to bed. #relatable

Like I said before, he was a bit of an aloof figure when someone first met him, but once he warmed up to them they found a man who was very modest, mild-mannered, and intellectually curious. He was a cold-eyed realist, a great story-teller, and a man known by his friends for having a self-deprecating (and sometimes inappropriate) wit. A few examples of his wit include: when he was on his death-bed he joked that he “always talked better lying down”; when he had to cover the costs of a Tunisian diplomat who brought with him a bunch of concubines he joked to Jefferson that the costs were “appropriations for foreign intercourse”; when he always told the story of that time someone stole his only hat (HIS ONLY HAT - talk about shitty luck); etc. So while he was quite cold to people he didn’t know, and he was never one to have many friends, to those who he did consider his friends, he was quite warm and jovial.

He had a lot in common with his BFF from Monticello, Thomas Jefferson, including their reserved, introverted natures and intellectual curiosities, but they were also different people. Madison was strategic, always thinking ten steps ahead, and he was a realist. Jefferson, by contrast, was extremely idealistic and didn’t always think things through. There are many times where he would come up with these ideas that seemed great in theory but weren’t grounded in reality. Madison would be the voice of reason, reigning in his friend when he became too involved in his own fantasy land. Jefferson was also an optimist who believed the best in people - Madison never had these instincts. Madison always seemed quite cynical when it came to people (though not to the extent as Hamilton). While Jefferson believed the people could do no wrong, Madison believed the people were susceptible to their own passions and it was why he never believed in populist politics.

He also wasn’t adverse to public speaking, but it didn’t come to him naturally. He wasn’t the most charismatic orator in the world (nor the loudest - in a lot of his speeches/arguments there are blanks because note takers honestly couldn’t hear him lmao woops), but he worked at it. He was extremely convincing when making his arguments. He knew how to make a good and sound argument. So whatever he lacked in charisma he gained in logic.

But, of course, we also have to talk about how he was a slave owner. Madison’s relationship with slavery is pretty interesting. When he was younger he seemed to be desperate to break away from his financial ties to slavery. He even tried to buy some land in New York so he didn’t have to rely on slave-labor. He was never successful in this endeavor. Madison was very aware of the hypocrisy of the revolution when it came to slavery, but like many Southerners his career and financial stability relied on that very institution. By the end of his life he seemed to believe slavery a necessary, but temporary, evil. He hoped that slavery would be abolished in the next generation, but he seemed to believe that it was something that could only be abolished in the future and not in his own time. Like many “anti-slavery slave owners” (I really don’t know what else to call them), he seemed to believe in this fantasy that slavery would die out in the next generation (when, in fact, the opposite happened). It was probably their way of absolving themselves of responsibility while also easing their own consciences.

But let’s get on to why I consider him a 5 foot 4, 120 pound can of whoop ass.

He. got. shit. done. He planned, prepared, persuaded, set agendas… he was fucking relentless in his work and he became a political giant because of it. There’s a reason why Dolley Madison referred to him as “the great little Madison.” I mean this dude was so relentless he even debated James Monroe in a FUCKING BLIZZARD and got frostbite on his nose because of it (he would he get a scar on the tip of his nose which he would make fun of later on).

He wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty in politics, but he did what he did to accomplish real goals. Here are a few:

Religious liberty. Do you like our lovely separation of church and state? You can thank Madison (at least in part) for that. Madison was the most aggressive supporter of having a separation of church and state than any other founding father. It started when a group of Baptists were arrested in Virginia for practicing their religion and he was like “that’s fucked up, man” so he successfully got a portion of the Virginia Constitution to allow for the “free exercise” of religion. A few years later he helped then-Governor Jefferson pass the Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom which finally disestablished the Anglican Church from Virginia (wait to go, Jemmy).

Then, of course, there’s his work on the Constitution. Madison basically locked himself away for a few months and poured over a series of books Jefferson had sent him from France on past republics. He wanted to figure out how and why these republics failed and collapsed. His notes were essential in crafting the Constitution and the Federalist Papers. I doubt Madison would approve of his title as the Father of the Constitution since he always argued that the Constitution was a kind of group effort (again, this dude was pretty modest - did I mention he never even made plans for a gravestone for himself? he just didn’t give a shit about that apparently), which is true, it was a group effort, but he really was a leading force at the Constitutional Convention. He advocated for a system of checks and balances and came up with the Virginia Plan which detailed the three branches of government we have now. He’s also the reason we know so much about what happened at the Convention. He created his own form of short-hand and wrote down literally EVERYTHING that was said at the Convention before going home and writing everything out long-hand (now that’s dedication).

He didn’t get everything he wanted out of the Constitution, but he still ardently supported it as the co-author of the Federalist Papers which was essential to getting the Constitution ratified. Madison wrote 29 essays, his Federalist 10 and Federalist 51 being the most famous of all of the 85 essays. In Federalist 10 he wrote about his theories on political factions where he essentially argues that while political factions/parties are destructive to republics, they’re inevitable and they can be used to control one another. He also writes about the dangers of majorities to become tyrannical over minorities and that our form of government specifically tries to prevent that by giving minority factions enough power to force majority factions to make a deal with them (for example, that’s why Democrats have the power to challenge and fight back against an overwhelming Republican majority). Federalist 51 discusses similar topics, but argues how the ambitions and vices of one group can be used to control the ambitions and vices of another. This essay is also where he famously wrote “If men were angels, no government would be necessary; if angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls would be necessary.”

He then goes on to write the Bill of Rights. Ironically enough, Madison never believed a Bill of Rights was necessary. He thought that the rights listed in the Bill of Rights were already implied in the Constitution, but he also worried that listing out specific rights would allow for the rights not specified to be unprotected. And he had a point, but he realized that a Bill of Rights was needed because it would win over Anti-Federalists (people opposed to the Constitution). So, even though the other members of Congress didn’t want to waste their time on a Bill of Rights, Madison still kept pestering them about it. He was a giant (figuratively speaking) in the House of Representatives, and in a time without political parties and an insignificant Speaker of the House, Madison became THE leader of Congress. And, thanks to his political talents, he managed to get the amendments passed.

But whenever you start reading up about James Madison, you run into the “James Madison Problem.” Essentially, it’s the idea that James Madison had a significant shift in political beliefs during the 1790s. Earlier in his political career he believed in a strong central government and he was seriously frightened by “tyrannical” state legislatures. He believed the state legislatures and their populist politics needed to be reigned in by a powerful central government. In this regard he was like Hamilton. Later on in his career he flips, though, arguing for states rights and a smaller federal government. A lot of historians try and figure out why he so drastically changed his political opinions (although Madison himself never believed his beliefs changed). In my opinion I think Madison’s opinions were more consistent than people think.

When he was crafting the Constitution, Madison was coming from a decade of chaos from uncontrollable state legislatures based on populist politics. In that regard, Madison believed that a strong federal government was key to reigning in the states and populist politics. But by the time of the 1790s, Madison realized his ideas of the federal government were much different than Hamilton’s. Hamilton wanted a federal government that emulated those of Europe - Madison wanted no such thing. Madison’s idea of a strong central government was more like a judicial-like umpire than Hamilton’s idea of a European-style bureaucracy with large standing armies and a powerful independent executive. Madison thought the federal government could be the balancing act between the different states, Hamilton thought the federal government would rule the states. Then, of course, Hamilton’s financial plan was the breaking point for Madison who believed that a national bank was unconstitutional and that the rest of Hamilton’s plan screwed over poor farmers (which it kind of did). When Madison broke away from Hamilton, Hamilton really felt betrayed. The two had become friends during the Constitutional Convention and the writing of the Federalist Papers, so naturally Hamilton was stunned to learn that his friend was the leading voice against his financial plan. Needless to say they weren’t friends after that.

But the more the Federalists pushed the boundaries of the Constitution (at least, that’s how Madison saw it) the more Madison became appalled at the growing powers of the federal government. To fight against Hamilton and the other Federalists, Madison joined with Jefferson to create the first political party: the Democratic-Republican Party. Then, in 1800, Jefferson was elected President and Madison became his Secretary of State. He helped negotiate the Louisiana Purchase, dealt with increasing tensions with the British, and a whole lot of other shit that I’m not going to list out here. By 1808 Madison was elected the 4th President of the United States. It was under his presidency where we had the War of 1812 and the Burning of Washington. There’s been a lot of criticism for how Madison and his administration handled the war, and they are justified, but he also managed to fight a war and end it without increasing the powers of the executive. Most wars expand the powers of the executive branch which can put a republic in jeopardy, but Madison resisted this. He also showed a lot of bravery and resolve during the Burning of Washington. He and his administration fucked up, but there were some good moments as well.

By the end of his two terms, Madison returned to Montpelier for a well-deserved retirement, and, despite his supposed ill-health, he ended up out-living every other founding father.

Hopefully this little rant convinced you why I think Madison is a 5 foot 4, 120 pound can of whoop ass. I could go on and on about him and I still have more stories I could tell but I’ll end it here.
