What we could be
Second part of the request about Joe and you getting divorce
Happy ending, second chance
I'm going to send the kids with my mom on Saturday. Would you like to go out and eat something or we stay at the house?"
Truthful to his word, Joe sent you a text. You didn't know what to answer, going out implied many things and you didn't want to be seen with him (harsh but true) but being surrounded by people made you more confident than being alone at his house. You didn't want to think what would happen if you were alone at his house.
"There's a coffee place we could talk privately. Saturday at noon" you answer back.
"Perfect!"
When Saturday came, you were so nervous you messed up your eyeliner twice. You remembered his words. "I never wanted a divorce" Was that really true? You never thought Joe was putting any effort into your relationship after Mackenzie was born. Everything was football and winning. You really try to talk to him, you really did and he wouldn't clear a damn space in his agenda for you.
You sighed, looking at your reflection in the mirror. You remembered the way Joe look at you when Julian mentioned the date.
Would you go back with Joe if he asked?
You didn't know. You loved him, he was the dad of your children but you were so scared. You didn't wanted to get hurt again.
When you arrived at the coffee, Joe was already there. He smiled fondly and stood up to kiss your cheek. Your hands were sweaty when you took your seat. "Should we order something?" He said looking at the menu. "I'm going to order an iced coffee" he stood up before you to set your order on the counter. You watch him interact with the employee, and you felt a pang in your chest. He was lovely, really polite. He would order your coffee like this many times before. Nostalgia hit you like a truck, but you weren't here to remind the sweet times.
When he came back you said a shy thank you and waited for him to sit down. "Well, thanks for coming" he smiled again. "Julian has the same smile at you" you pointed out. His smile grew bigger. "Yeah, the boys told me"
"Well, yes" you gulped, sipping your coffee.
He ran his hands through his hair, one, two, three times. Good to know you weren't the only nervous.
"I mean it. What I said in the house" he said, his eyes big and honest "I'm sorry I've never considered your feelings. I guess being a father made me realize the big responsibility I was carrying, but I completely forgot to be a husband" when you didn't say a word, he continue "I thought that by working more, earning more money would protect my family" he was sad "I never thought it would be the reason of losing it"
"Joe, this is not about the kids. I think you're a great father, and they loved you. This is about us" you sighed, tired of having this conversation "We forgot about ourselves. I tried to arrange dates you didn't show up. We had conversations like this before, I missed my husband and you weren't there so tell me" you voice filled with emotions made you stop for a second "...tell me why I should believe you"
"I-I still love you, Y/N" he confessed, staring at your soul "I want to share a bed, a house or a damn mug with you. No one else. You are the mother of my children and I still care about you "
"You didn't hook up with that reporter a month after our divorce?" you brought up. He pressed his lips and have the decency to look ashamed. "I was hurt, but yeah"
"Well, it was long ago" you realize after the divorce Joe went blank about his personal life. No one knew if he was having dates. It was hard to believe if he didn't.
"I understand if you're afraid, I'm very honest and very clear right now, I want a second chance" he declared, fully confident.
"Joe..." you pleaded, but looking at him felt so familiar. What would happen if you didn't divorce? Your family would be closer, children wouldn't be stressed but maybe you would be miserable, right? You loved him, you still do. Joe had all the respect and admiration on your side, but again you never felt the same support. "I love you, you're a great father but you haven't show me any different"
"Give me a second chance please" his hand looked for yours over the table, and when you felt it so warm and big around yours, your mind was in completely silence. You haven't touch Joe in three years. He was the love of your life, and yet...you were so scared.
At your hesitation, he confessed "I'm sorry to made you feel lonely, I regret it completely. I'm not going to talk about my wishes anymore. And I understand if you say no" he took a deep breath before saying "I'll retire this year"
The new made you flinch in surprise. "What? No? Are you joking?"
"No, I'm not joking. After the divorce I realize many things" he sounded honest.
"But you loved football!"
"Yes, but my body is asking for a rest. And football is not my family, doesn't make me cookies and hug me tight everytime they see me" you were crying at that point. If that's true, things could be so different. "I want you back. You're my wife, I made those vows for you. I love you"
"Okay"
"Do you give me a second chance?" he was grinning full of hope.
"Yes"
"You won't regret it, I promise"

Warning! *Language, angst, dark story, death*
All Hallows' Eve 2 am
Although you vowed to kill Raven, you could not leave Thranduil. You sat beside your husband rubbing his hand that you laid upon his chest. "Baby, please...please open your eyes. Breathe. Please..."
Tumblr media
"Somebody...please do something!! Daddy??"
Tumblr media
"My sweet girl I...."
"Don't you call me that!!" you raged.
"My Jo...You know I cannot bring back the dead. Nor can you with all of your healing powers. I am so sorry my child. He is gone. You must let him go. We need to go now!" Julian came to you and pried your hands free of Thranduil as you kicked and screamed.
"Let me go! No!!! I will not leave him!! He needs me! I need him...I will die without him."
"Josephine...you must not say those things. You have a part of him alive inside of you that you must care for." Julian harshly said as he gave you a shake to snap you out of your hysteria.
"For god's sake man, let her grieve. and be with her husband." Garrett growled.
Julian scowled at the protective vampire. "Coming from someone who has never let her be with her husband? Why are you still here? No one except your own kind wants you around." It was clear your father was never going to accept Garrett in your life.
You shoved Julian off of you and looked around at everyone's face for some glimpse of hope. Legolas was still frozen as he knelt beside his father. Haldir's sympathetic eyes begged for you to come to him for comfort as his heart broke seeing you in so much pain. Selene offered you a compassionate eye as she knew this pain all too well when she believed Michael to be dead. She then whisked away and you knew right where she was going. To find Raven and bring her to you. Then your swollen eyes caught Garrett's, which were glassy and wet. As much as he despised Thranduil, he never would wish such suffering upon you. If he could do something to fix this, he would move heaven and earth to do it for you. He displayed a broken half smile to you and extended his arm out, offering you his shoulder to cry on like you once did for him. To Haldir's and Julian's dismay, you went right to Garrett and broke down in his arms as you clutched the pendant in your hand. He held you tight and said nothing, allowing you to grieve with no pressure, like Julian had displayed.
Tumblr media
Haldir then took off on a war path also to find Raven, but Selene came back in which stopped him. "She is gone. They are all gone!" she intensely informed.
You stepped out of Garrett's arms. "What??!! She cannot get away! She knows something more, I can feel it! Haldir, why didn't you ask her more!??!!"
He tried his best to understand you were not angry with him or blaming him, that it was only your grief speaking, but it still hurt him. "I..I was only trying to locate Thranduil. I felt it to be the most imperative at the time and when she told us, you rushed off so we followed to help you. I am sorry I failed you...and Thranduil." He then quickly departed.
You knelt back down over Thranduil and placed your quivering lips upon his, long and deep. The soft suppleness and warmth of them were gone and he had an unrecognizable taste. It was bitter.
"Nin beautiful aran erain , nin mel, nin emel, nin faer. Im will avenge thee, an im mel cin more than nin own cuil. An all -o uir." (My beautiful King, my love, my heart, my soul. I will avenge thee, for I love you more than my own life. For all of eternity.) You said as you rubbed the back of your hand down his cheek, then buried your face in his neck and breathed in his lilac scent that was strangely still potent as ever. The rain always seemed to magnify it for some reason, so you figured that to be why.
You whispered into his ear. "Nin aran erain, take nin awaui o hi awful near." (My King, take me away from this awful place.) The exact words you professed the night you escaped Peter's cabin and blindly ran off into the forest. Thranduil came for you then and you believed he would come for you again. You just had to believe it.
"Legolas..." You placed your hand on his. "Please...stay with him so he is not alone. I will not be long. I must find Raven."
The Prince only slightly looked your way, but not in your eyes, then he returned his concentration on his father. It was his way of letting you know he understood. Your heart couldn't possibly break any more than it had, but it did for Legolas. You then raced off as Julian, Selene and Garrett quickly pursued.
It was now a torrential downpour outside and the moon had strangely changed back to a glowing moonstone like Thranduil's eyes. The 13th hour had ended in Jareth's time and he was ready to play.
You all had reached the edge of the forest when a horrendous yell came from the church. It was Legolas. You ran back as fast as you could with the others following.
As you returned to where you had left Thranduil and his son, there stood Legolas but Thranduil was gone. All that was left was the pool of blood on the ground being washed away from the rain pouring in from the broken roof.
Tumblr media
"Legolas!! Where is Thranduil??!!" you screamed.
He just stood paralyzed, staring at the ground where his father had been.
"Legolas!!!" You grabbed his arms and shook him. "Where is he!!!!??"
"He...he...he just....vanished..."
"What do you mean he just vanished???? Did he just get up and leave? Were you not watching over him?? I asked you to stay with him!!"
"I did Josie!!! I never left! He just...it was like...stardust...and then...he was gone...right before my eyes..."
"W..wh...wha..." You stammered as your eyelids rapidly blinked from the rain drowning them. You couldn't even speak. You then began marching around the rubble in a frenzy. "Thranduil!!!"
He was nowhere. Just gone. You fell to your knees and sobbed so hard you almost vomited.
Tumblr media
Large chunks of stone began falling as the rain hammered down through open ceiling.
"Josephine...we need to leave here now!" Garrett shouted.
You glanced up at him with the saddest of eyes. "I...I can't...feel him anymore....I....tell me this is all a dream...."
Tumblr media
Garrett forced you to stand. "I so wish I could sweetheart. Josephine...I am so sorry for what is happening but I will be damned, even more so than I already am, if I am going to let you die!"
He held your head in his hands. "G..Garr...I don't feel so..."
Tumblr media
You passed out and Garrett swooped you up in his arms. "We must get her inside where it's warm."
Tumblr media
The five of you just got outside when the entire ceiling caved in. Back into the castle Garrett carried you as the others carried on beside him.
You awoke disoriented about 30 minutes later. "Thranduil!!" you gasped.
Tumblr media
"Hey, hey. It's alright. Selene, Legolas and I are here." Garrett sweetly spoke and stroked your cheek. Julian was gone though.
"Where's my dad??? I need my dad?"
Tumblr media
"He went to look for the others and try to find Jareth." Selene answered. Legolas stood staring out the window in silence.
You abruptly got up. "I am not going to just sit here while Jareth and Raven wreak havoc on more people I love. I promised my husband I would avenge him and that I will do!" But then, you felt extremely nauseated and dizzy and fell back onto the couch.
Garrett whisked to your side. "Josephine, what is it?"
"I...I think I am going to be...." You made a gagging sound as you covered your mouth with your hand. Then it all happened so fast, you didn't even see it. Garrett sped to one side of the room and back, placing a trash can in front of you just as your morning breakfast made it's way out of your mouth. He then held your hair back.....just like Thranduil had done for you. You then made a terrible frown as you wiped your lips with the back of your hand. The taste...it was just like when you kissed Thranduil. "Wh...what is that???"
Garrett peered into the trash can. "It appears to be...possibly fruit, crackers and maybe some...OJ?"
You smacked his arm, quite hard. "Garrett!!! Now is not the time for your stupid fucking jokes! I meant the smell....I tasted it on Thranduil's lips."
He leered at you in shock and offense. "I actually was being serious because I thought that is what you were asking. Sorry!" he snapped and got up.
Selene smelled it and veered around the couch, taking in a stronger whiff. It's....wolfsbane...." she whispered in utter disbelief. "I know it all too well. It has many uses but I know it because of Michael. In the right dosage and mixed with other herbs, it can stop his transformation just like the talisman bracelet I gave him. But...it is also very toxic and too much can cause....."
"Death...." you whispered in horror. "Oh my..god....my mother poisoned him....but....but how???? He swore to me he would never drink anything she offered him."
"But she also had a spell placed upon him. And...it doesn't have to be ingested to be effective. My guess is that it was on the knife." Selene revealed.
"But that makes no sense??" You stood up and began to anxiously pace. "She used the spell to obviously render his senses useless and lure him to her. She could have then easily had gotten him to drink it, so why stab him??? Why even use the poison??? There couldn't possibly have been enough on the blade to kill him. The wound alone would do that. This makes no sense!! She had some bigger plan here and it was interrupted when she was killed. So now what??? Where is his body?? How can he just dissipate into thin air????" You began to hyperventilate and ran to the trash can becoming sick again.
"There was obviously enough poison on it to make you sick just by a simple touch." Garrett said and turned you to face him. "We need to get it out of you asap." He placed his fingers on your chest and his hand glowed of a light blue as you peered up at him in confusion.
Tumblr media
Sheer pain coursed over his face as his eyes rolled back. You felt nothing but a tiny tickle where his fingers were.
"Garrett?? What is happening??!!"
He couldn't speak and then he just dropped.
"Garrett!!!! Oh my god, wake up! Don't you do this to me!! I need you!! Selene, what is wrong with him??? What the fuck did he just do??" you reeled in panic as you knelt over him, smacking at his cheek.
"He took your poison into him. He will be alright. Try to calm down. He just has to go through it."
"What??!! Go through it??" you profusely panted as you stared at his motionless body.
"Yes...his own poison, the venom, will eat the toxin but it's not exactly a comfortable process. He will feel the effects of this for awhile."
Although you felt one hundred percent better physically, you still felt sick to your stomach at the thought of what Thranduil must have felt after seeing Garrett like this....and you only had a small amount in you from skin contact.
Garrett began to awaken and you helped him sit up. "What the hell was that?? Why did I not know of this power you possess, or...the one you pulled on Raven too for that matter?? Please tell me you are alright."
"I will be. I guess there was never a need to tell you."
"Ok?? Well, there's a now need for you to tell me so spill it." you demanded.
"It's really not that big of a deal Josephine. Some powers we obtain are carried over from our human lives, only magnified into something else. It all varies. It can be things we were really good at, or strong emotions we possessed...or even related to trauma we endured...and some are just based off of our sign....some don't even have any powers at all except the basics of speed. As far as what I did to Raven, turning her own power against her, I believe I received that ability due to my insane desire for justice upon that pos that killed my sister...you know, karma? Or how I felt I had no control in my life, but now I can paralyze someone with just a glance...I mean, look at Kate...her ability to electrocute someone...that happened to her in life and she was put on life support until Craven changed her. As far as what I just did...I can take people's sickness from them, but I have to suffer for it. My desire to keep my brother alive and not become a monster like me....to me it is a sickness and I did not choose it. No one chooses to be sick..My sister did not choose what happened to her, and all I wanted to do was heal her....so I think that's why I have this ability...to help others."
"First of all, I know you better than anyone and you are no monster. A monster doesn't do selfless acts. Second...that means...you are a healer...like me? What other tricks do you have up your sleeve that I am unaware of?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out....Sorry....stupid fucking joke, I know."
You had obviously scorned him earlier, just as you had done to Haldir without intent. "Garrett...I...I am sorry for what I said. You have to know, please, that I do not really think that. Your humor, it brings light into my darkened world. And...what you just did for me...I have no words except thank you."
"Don't thank me. I owed you. You healed me twice now so I still owe you another...let's just hope it's never needed."
But it was needed, only his kind of healing couldn't help you.
Legolas had been silent the entire time and kept to himself. You understood his pain as it was a pain only you and him could feel. You went over to him and took his hand. "Legolas....talk to me. I need you. We need each other."
He slowly removed his hand from yours and his eyes darkened. "What I need is my father. Apparently though, you have all you need right here. You just said so moments ago. I do not need you. In fact...all of this...it is your fault. My father would be alive right now if he hadn't gone chasing after your psychotic mother all to prove his love for you that he always seemed he felt he needed to do because you always made him feel he was not good enough for you."
You gasped as he glared at you. Grief, you told yourself, was all this was and that he didn't mean it but it hurt like hell and he knew right where to hit you.
"Hey!! Do not speak to her like that!" Garrett snapped.
"Or what filth?? Get out of my way..." Legolas snarled with his nose flaring just like his father and stormed off as Garrett stepped aside and sarcastically gestured with his hand to go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Legolas!!" you shouted and chased after him. As you both came upon a back exit to the mountain stream, there stood a grotesque creature that you had never seen before and it was staring right at the Prince and then it charged him.
Legolas' reaction time was slightly impaired from his grief and he didn't get his arrow raised in time. The hideous creature swung his arm hitting Legolas so hard, slamming him against the wall.
Tumblr media
Legolas NO!!" You ran and stood before the Prince who was barely conscious. Your love for him and Thranduil sent the fire shooting through your veins and out it came with no effort. A flash of blinding light struck the dark form, catapulting it through the air and setting it ablaze.
Tumblr media
Legolas got up with a minor bloody nose and you both noticed an orc on a warg out by the dock that stopped to gaze at you both.
Tumblr media
"Next time I need your assistance, I will ask for it." he snarked and took off after the beasts as horns began to blow. One was familiar. It was the Lothlorien guard that had remained in the shadows until needed. Haldir must have ordered them out and you could see why. The other horn you were unfamiliar with but had to assume it was Narcisse's army.
Tumblr media
"Legolas!! Please stop!" you cried. You were scared to death he was going to get himself either severely hurt or killed with the state of mind he was in.
Garrett and Selene came running up and you spun around to them. "What the fuck is that thing I just killed and why are there orcs here??!!!"
Selene walked over to the smoldering atrocity and kicked it. "That my dear is a wendigo. And I am certain Jareth has conjured them up, along with the ghastly orcs and their wargs."
"A wen...what??" you sputtered.
"A wendigo. Powerful monsters that have a desire to kill and eat their victims. In most legends, humans transform into wendigos because of their greed or weakness." Garrett answered. "They are much like vampires, evil ones anyways. They can infect you if bitten or scratched even."
A clock in the room chimed, grabbing your attention. It was now 3 am. The witching hour. Jareth's wrath was now upon all of Chateau de Lioncourt.
"Time is short....." you whispered in fright. "We have to go now!! We must find the others. This is bad....like really bad!"
"I will let nothing happen to you or your child. I will die first." Garrett swore as he laid his hand upon your cheek.
"What he said." Selene vowed with a grin. You all then raced off with the vampires on each side of you.
The storm kept up as you all followed the blazing horns which led you to the front of the castle grounds. You could see a multitude of the glowing eyes of orcs lining the forests borders and hooded figures opposite of them that appeared to be more reapers, aka death dealers. You were right about the foreign horns you heard. There stood Narcisse in front of his squad with your father at his side and Haldir with his as Aragorn led. And then....there was Lestat with his own clan, Maharet, Marius, and Armand included, and even Michael. A vampire army. Your heart dropped as if you had fallen from a cliff, which you knew that feeling all too well as looking at Haldir just now reminded you of it in Rivendell. The sound of Aragorn's command caused you to almost piss yourself.
Tumblr media
"Thranduil...." you whispered and began to cry.
The wind suddenly kicked in. A glow of orange lit up the sky with a scent of citrus floating through it. Aragorn promptly ordered the guard to hold.
Tumblr media
There was Jareth without a drop of rain upon him. And at his side stood the cowardly Clover smirking at you. You wanted to rip her limb from limb but you needed her alive to find out what happened to your husband's body.
He gazed at you and you cringed. He was just as you remembered him from your dream that had actually been a memory. All that could be heard in the dead silence was his words that echoed across the grounds. "Come back Sarah...come back before it's too late."
Tumblr media
You glanced at Garrett, then Selene in great perplexity, then at Julian who had a mixed emotions tangled on his face of rage and fear.
"My child, do not fear me. Did I not tell you I would see you soon? It would have been much sooner, but your whereabouts were of great uncertainty after...my brother expired and you underwent the protection of the Elvinking. And of course, your interfering mother. Good riddance to her, may she rest in hell." Jareth grinned.
Julian flew over to you. Just another power of his that you never knew he had. "Do not listen to him child! He is a demon and filled with lies."
Tumblr media
"Oh little brother. it has been a long time yes? So not good to see you alive and well." Jareth teased.
"D..daddy? Why is he calling me Sarah?"
"My child...I do believe you are addressing the wrong person. Do tell her Julian, witch hunter and 7th son.... or shall I?"
Julian death glared him. "Watch yourself Jareth, for you do not want my wrath, or have you forgotten my warnings."
"Ok, what the fuck is going on here????" you reeled. It was obviously more than some sibling rivalry.
Jareth belted out a sinister laugh. "Is it not clear to you yet my child? Julian is not your father. I am....."

Fic-O-Ween day 3!
This is mostly dialogue and chaos but it’s fun dialogue and chaos.
A Potter family trip to the apple orchard wasn't complete without Uncle Padfoot and Loops, and therefore Jules. And also Dumo and his kids, including Logan and his boys. And one of their brothers and his two. And Thomas.
So a trip that was meant to be three became eighteen, and Lily couldn't find it in herself to care. This was her family and she couldn't be happier. The boys were busy chasing the kids and lifting them up so they could reach the tops of the trees. Pascal was picking apples to bring home to Celeste so she could make a pie. James, Sirius, and Remus were busy keeping both Harry and Jules busy, which was far too endearing.
Adele had been practically glued to her and Natalie all day, and honestly, it was making Lily think about more children.
"Corn maze! Corn maze! Corn maze!" Katie shrieked, running to her father.
It was the only thing she'd wanted to do, after seeing the ponies.
"Sirius said it's time!"
Pascal, and everyone else, looked to where Sirius was biting back a grin, while also hanging Harry half over his shoulder. Remus, Lily noted, had never looked so fond.
"Did he?"
"I've told you before I can't say no to her, Dumo, it's your fault," Sirius said, placing Harry back on his feet.
Harry had started chanting with Katie, Marc and Louis joined in, and then Jules.
"Alright, alright, to the corn maze children."
Remus didn't know that a corn maze was meant to be a competition, but according to the O'Hara brothers, it meant war. This was how Remus found himself on a team with eight others. While it made sense to split into groups, as eighteen people trying to go through a maze would be chaos, he wasn't sure about the competition part of it.
There was only one way to go, so wouldn't they just keep running into each other?
"Loops, that's the point! Where's the fun without a bit of trash talk?" Finn told him after Remus said as much.
"There's kids here, O'Hara," Natalie commented.
"So we keep it PG, and we do the little scavenger hunt. That's where the real fun is."
Remus was a little disappointed that his own brother hadn't wanted to be on his team, or his boyfriend. But the O'Haras and Dumais children had reminded him that sibling rivalry was as good a motivator as any.
"Wait I think we should go that way," Lily said, pointing to the path towards the left.
Finn stopped next to her, "it's definitely to the right. You always go to the right."
"And that is how you lose, little bro," Alex said, walking past with his own team behind him. They went to the left
"Shut up, you idiot," Finn said back. Remus heard Logan laugh from where he was walking past, and Leo snicker from behind him.
"Yo, Harz, don't talk to my man like that," Kasey said, reaching forward to grab Alex's hand.
Natalie jumped in, "yeah, don't talk to our man like that."
"We're on the same team, Nat," Finn said back.
"I don't care."
This was already far too much, and they hadn't even gotten into the maze.
Remus had been hoping, secretly, that he would have been able to sneak off with Sirius and get some of the hot cider that was being sold. Sirius, however, seemed to be too far gone to pull him away from this.
"How does it feel to be on the losing team, Re?" He said, walking past.
"Yeah, Re?" Julian parroted.
Remus there his hands up and let them fall back with a slap against his thighs.
James and Pascal both laughed at him. Thomas jostled his shoulder and snickered.
Alex wouldn't admit it, but they were definitely lost. The goal had been to get to the closest checkpoint, but well, he was fairly certain it was supposed to be right where they were standing.
"Alex..."
Alex looked at Kasey slowly, who was obviously holding back a laugh.
"I have no idea where we are."
"What?" Three voices echoed. Logan, James, Sirius.
It was almost comical, the way their heads turned to him, and each of the children's that followed. Harry was on James shoulders, an action mirrored by Katie and Logan. Julian was on Sirius' back, but dropped down to pull out his own map. Marc went over to look at it with him.
"I joined your team because you said you always won, don't tell me I left my lovers just to lose," Logan said, leaning over to look at the map in Alex's hands.
"We're not losing. We don't know how to lose," Sirius said.
"What Cap said," James announced, using Harry's little finger to trace a path on their map.
Marc and Jules walked past all of them, drawing their attention, "this way," Marc said. So they went.
Lily was going to rip that red hair right out of Finn O'Hara's big head.
"Are you blind?"
"He does use reading glasses," Leo called from the back of the group.
"Baby we're on the same team," Finn turned to him. "I told you though, always go right."
"O'Hara, if we go left it takes us straight to the third checkpoint."
Thank god for Natalie Darcy, at least someone could see some sense. Adele agreed with them too, though that was likely more to just agree than anything.
They'd already got to the first two checkpoints, punching out the little numbers on their card, and reading the little story for Louis, who didn't actually seem that interested. Granted he was ten, but he was the only child with them. Except for Adele, who definitely wouldn't admit she found it fun.
At every turn they had a debate, and every time Finn said to go right, and he was only correct half of those times.
Remus and Thomas were making jokes each time, Leo and Pascal were trailing at the back of the group, and Louis was playing on his father's phone.
And yet, Lily loved it. Every minute of it.
Sirius wouldn't admit it, but there was no possible way they were winning. They'd been in this maze for nearly fifteen minutes and hadn't checked any of the boxes. The kids were beginning to whine, and they were staring at a wall of corn.
"You said this way, little Dumo," Kasey said to Marc, who just shrugged.
"Alright team, I'll be honest. We kind of suck, so any ideas?" Alex said.
Sirius huffed, "that was a shit pep-talk O'Hara."
"Kids, Padfoot, seriously," James said, hands over Harry's ears.
"Not all of us can be the youngest captain, Black," Alex turned to him, "feel free to help out any time."
"Actually, I think you've got it O'Hara. Never been so inspired in my life," Sirius said, falling back next to Logan. He'd never done a corn maze before, and honestly was losing the appeal of it quickly.
"I feel like this would be more fun with alcohol."
"You are absolutely right, T," Remus replied.
"As if we don't have enough entertainment from the redheads up there," Leo said from behind them.
Finn and Lily had both declared themselves team leaders it seemed, which had definitely become the chaos Remus had imagined.
They were over halfway through the maze, and making pretty good time. Though, that was likely more to do with the fact the Finn was practically running. Well, that, and the fact that it wasn't really Lily or Finn leading them, it was Leo and Pascal.
Each time the group at the front disagreed, Leo or Pascal became the voice of reason. It was usually a quick, "alright, this way." Or, "I'm going this way, follow or don't."
Remus was also pretty sure he'd heard them betting against their own team. Really, Remus agreed with them. But there was also a part of him determined to beat Sirius and Julian.
They were on track again, had even completed two of the ten checkpoints. Though, it had already been more than twenty minutes, so they weren't really on track. Kasey had taken over for most of that, his calm helping them.
Now though...
Alex was struggling to keep calm himself.
There was three ways they could go, and everyone was talking at once.
"Left. I say left." Logan was looking wistfully down the pathway.
"No, Tremzy!" Katie yelled.
Jules and Marc were talking to each other at the back of the group, momentarily forgetting about the maze.
"Pretty confident it's straight," Kasey said.
"You're certainly not," Sirius chirped.
"Like you can talk, Black," Alex responded.
"None of us are," Logan quipped.
James spluttered, "are you forgetting about me?” His hands splayed in front of him, child giggling on his shoulders.
The other four men looked at each other, then said together, "no."
James squinted at all of them, shrugged, then stepped forward into the middle path. Straight it was then.
Finn was going to win one way or the other, and he would absolutely not admit that it was because of Lily Evans-Potter. Maybe she was right, so what? He'd never said he was good at corn mazes or following directions. And the other guys certainly were no help. He was fairly certain Leo had bet against him.
But, on the bright side, all there was left to do now was get out. After one small stop.
"We have to find them," he announced.
"What, why?" Lily responded immediately.
"To scare them."
"Oh!" Natalie's face lit up as she said it.
"Now this I can get behind," Thomas announced.
"I'm in," Remus said.
"Can I scare Marc?" Adele asked.
"No I want to scare Marc!" Louis said, actually looking away from the game he was playing.
"Cool, let's go."
Yeah, they were definitely losing. There was no possible way this team was getting anywhere. The kids had started complaining early on, and it was beginning to become sad. Sirius had already taken off his jacket and hoodie, the sun bright and no breeze to cool them. They'd gotten maybe five of the checkpoints, Sirius wasn't sure, he'd stopped caring long ago.
He was carrying Harry now, James' shoulder had started acting up again, and frankly, he needed some entertainment. His eyes flitted between Jules and Marc and the path they were walking down.
It wasn't all that bad, though. He hadn't had time to just be since summer, and he was doing it with all of his people. Of course, half of them were somewhere else in this godforsaken trap, but they were still here.
This was nice, and even if the kids weren't enjoying it anymore, at least he got to spend time with them.
"Hey Jules, what are we going to tell Remus when we get out?" He said over his shoulder.
There wasn't an answer, se he glanced back, "Jules?"
Except Jules wasn't there, and neither was Marc. Sirius' heart dropped, his hands got just a little tighter around Harry's. "Jules? Marc?"
The others stopped where they were in front of him, James walked over.
"Sirius?"
"They were just right behind me," he whispered.
There was an uneasy silence that followed, as Sirius scanned the area.
"Maybe they just went down a different path..." it was Logan.
No, that wasn't right. Neither of the boys would do that, not without saying something. Had he missed it?
"They wouldn't—”
"AHHH!!"
There were shouts all around them, bodies running out of the corn. There was Jules, right next to a laughing Remus. And Marc with his own family. Despite being startled, Sirius was relieved.
Then, all at once, the other team took off in a full sprint away from them, leaving Sirius' own team shaken.
Slowly, after realizing what had gone down, and ignoring Marc and Jules laughing on the ground, they looked to Alex O'Hara.
His head tipped back and he groaned, then said, "oh thank god."
Again, they all looked at one another. Kasey spoke up, "babe?"
"They've finished it. We can get out of this fu-- freaking corn."
A collective sigh went up, and they turned on their heel and walked the same direction the others ran.
Lily hadn't laughed this hard in a long time. Her, Natalie, and Adele were still giggling together when the others came out of the maze.
Alex went over to Finn, putting him into a headlock and rubbing his head, "finally beat me, little man."
"Get off me," Finn yelped, grabbing for Leo. Logan was laughing as he went over to them.
Kasey pulled Natalie into a kiss, which made Adele grimace. Alex shouted for them, which made them both smile.
Pascal gathered his children up, insisting they take a selfie for their mother. Adele rolled her eyes but was still the one to hold up the phone.
Thomas and Remus were still talking together when Sirius walked over.
"You've had my boyfriend long enough, T, time to get your own."
Thomas mocked offense, and Remus grinned, "how does it feel to be on the losing team, baby?"
When Sirius scowled Remus pulled him down for a kiss.
"Little Loops, how does it feel knowing you almost made the Captain cry?" Thomas said.
"That's not fair, T, he was worried."
They were laughing together, in their little group.
James came over, Harry holding his hand and smiling at Lily.
"Hi Mama!"
"Hi baby," she knelt to pick him up. Then leaned in and kissed her husband, "beat you."
"No, I'm definitely winning," he kissed her again, again, again.
There was laughter around them, and love surrounding their little group, which was certainly not so little. She's never been happier to have such a big family.

Hart and Hunter - Chapter 34 - Part 2
Tumblr media
*Warning Adult Content*
Dane Hunter
Erickson sits up slowly, fear and anger equally in conflict on his face, and glares at me.
The fear is a little stronger, though and all it takes is a growl from Freya before he startles and gives in.
"I made a pass at him, alright?" he spits to the side, having bitten his own lip when he fell.
"At Halloran, I mean. I pegged him for straight but I guess I was feeling lucky or dumb and I gave it a shot anyway. Shoulda listened to my instincts," he spits again and wipes his mouth on the back of his hand, the self-disgust on his face evoking a shred of pity.
It doesn't excuse his actions but I know what it's like to do something stupid out of sheer loneliness.
"What happened?" Julian asks.
"If Halloran's a homophobe, he hides it really well."
Erickson looks up at him, a smear of blood on his chin and his eyes rimmed in red.
He looks patently pathetic.
"He threatened to bring it up with HR... sexual harassment," he adds with a sneer.
"But it turned out he wanted a partner after all. In exchange for his silence, I had to help him with shit like this."
He nods at us collectively.
"What did he tell you?" Julian asks.
Erickson grimaces.
"Everything. All about the Fae Council and how they help protect the world from monsters and shit. He said he'd come here hunting one and for some reason, he wanted you two kept out of it."
He nods at me and Julian.
"He had me play lookout for him. Drive around this damn block in the middle of the night while he ran around, looking for who-the-fuck-knows what. Got pretty miffed at me for taking my God-damn union-sanctioned break the one time you two managed to spot him."
Something clicks into place.
"Hold up. The 'thief' we chased. That was Halloran?"
Erickson nods.
"You interrupted a delicate operation and let the real thief get away. Good job."
"And the phone call?" I ask, ignoring the gibe.
"He tried to warn you off. I did, too. Guess you didn't listen."
I glance at Julian.
Clearly, Halloran had known what we were dealing with all along and had lied through his shiny white teeth more than once.
But if Julian is upset by this, he's doing a good job of hiding it and it seems we're thinking along the same lines.
"Lagrange's body. That was you, wasn't it?"
"Fuckin' Lagrange."
Erickson laughs unsteadily and shakes his head.
"I didn't buy it at first... all the shit about monsters and 'skin-changers' but I played along, anyway. Then 'Hal' tells me to get a body out of the morgue before anyone gets a good look at it. And Jesus Christ."
He shudders.
"That made me a believer. That thing wasn't Lagrange. Looked like a half melted wax mummy. Never seen anything like it and never want to again."
"That son of a bitch," I growl.
"All this time and he..."
"It was for my protection," Julian interrupts, his gaze unfocused as he pieces things together in his head.
"Halloran told me he'd come here searching for Rhiannon and that he had strict orders from the Council to keep me out of it. I think that much was true. If Darragh and his rogue Fae wanted me from the beginning, Halloran had plenty of chances to turn me over to them."
He sighs.
"There's more going on here than we know... a deeper history. Something that goes way back. Something to do with the Shadowlands and with... my family."
"The Fae?"
"Nope. The human side," Freya chimes in.
"Grace and Chlo' found something interesting. Juju's got some deep roots in this town."
Julian takes a breath.
"My grandfather's side of the family... the Harts... were huntsmen. It looks like there was some sort of incursion from the Shadowlands back in the late 1800s, and children were vanishing. A Hart came here... an architect. He built the tunnels over the caverns, sealed them off and the disappearances stopped. I think that's what Rhiannon was trying to tell us with the rune. 'Hart' wasn't for me or my grandfather. It was a clue about what happened in the past and what's been happening again now."
"That's what we were doing here," Freya says.
"Juju figured if we could just get Rhiannon to talk, she could tell us everything we need to know. Unfortunately, it seems like the skin-changers got here first."
"Danni..." Julian murmurs, looking towards the ragged entrance to the tunnels.
"We can't leave them."
"Can't leave Ingrid, either," I remind him.
"I have an idea," he says.
"But you're not gonna like it."

Hey it's me again I was wondering if you could do a god asra x reader headcanons please if not just skip this have a lovely day
Of course I'll write this!! My computer has been acting up not letting me post this 😭😫 so I'm trying again on my phone, story head canon time hope u like it!
Rules are meant to be broken (God Asra x reader)
Asra's P.O.V
Another day, another fortune to be read and by that I mean a 7.753 billion fortunes to read, it's just the same thing every day, whether it be someone losing their keys, getting dumped, or dying at such a young age, these mortals don't have anything interesting going on in their lives.. It's just the same thing over and over again, I wish something more interesting would happen for once, I may be able to see into the future but I can't see to far, we gods have our limits, but if I was able to see far into the future I would use it to see into one mortals future just to see what her future would be like.. Us gods are forbidden from falling love, but I can't help it especially when it comes to this one mortal girl, every time I look into her past I can see that she was such a kind and sweet girl, who always stopped what she was doing to help her neighbors or to help an elderly person cross the street, but as she got older her so did her present day, sometimes I would sneak my way down to the mortal realm and disguise myself as one of them just so I could be a bit closer to her, I know most people would consider this as 'stalking' but that's not my intentions at all! I just wish to get to know her more without having to look through her past or her future.. I may be a god but I also wish I could feel normal for once just so I can be with her. If the other gods found out about this I would be in so much trouble, I haven't been down to the mortal realm in months, sometimes I would tag along with julien when he sneaks down there but we almost got caught when Julian tried bringing home a very loud raven, if he wasn't already immortal I would've killed him, I told him not to bring that raven home. Today Julian is off at the seas since he's the god of the raging seas, if you ever see a storm a brewing and ships sinking well that'll be julien, he doesn't like it all to much but he's also practicing to be a doctor so it's win win for him unless the mortals die then he feels bad and gets extremely insecure. But it's life, mortals die everyday and there's nothing we can do about it. When I thought today was just going to be another boring day something intriguing happened. The future of the mortal girl I adore so much had changed, it's always been the same thing every day but today it was different.. In her future she ends up with a man who I can't quite see the face of.. and it breaks my heart to see her end up with someone other than myself, the thing is when I first became the god of fortune I never felt these type of feelings before till the day she was brought into my life, when I first read her fortune, she started off as just an ordinary girl till her 18th birthday and that's when things changed, my heart started feeling all warm and fuzzy and I didn't know why, but when she was 24 everything had changed, I saw myself thinking about her more and more, I even grew excited when it came to looking into her past, present, even her future, her life was just as normal as any other mortals life but I didn't care, she made me feel different.. I was hoping that someday I would end up with her but I knew it was too good to be true. I was about to go to the goddess of love to find out who this mysterious man was but I didn't because she's someone who can't keep a secret, so I decided to do the one thing I can do; Go down to the mortal realm once again after so long, and find out who this mystery man is and prevent him from meeting her.
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
Today was like any other day, I woke up, ate breakfast, fed my pet snake, and walked to work, sometimes I would even help my neighbors out when they need it but if they don't then I just continue on my way to work, I work in the local antique shop in the middle of town it tends to get very popular especially if people are looking for something rare, I basically have everything here from antique typewriters to antique vases. If no one can afford anything here I also accept trades but they must be antique. When I opened up shop I flipped the close sign to open and waited for my first customer of the day to stroll right in, however today has been a very slow day especially when another antique shop opened up at the end of the street, most of my usual customers stopped coming by and started doing their antique shopping there, it did break my heart to see them go but I didn't let it get to me! An hour had passed and still no customers, I was about to give up until I heard the chime of the bell go off, I hurried over to the front to see a man with golden tan skin, white fluffy hair, and deep violet eyes walk right in, I was glad that someone had entered because I was starting to get bored and a bit lonely.. Maybe next time I'll bring my snake to work with me. When the man turned to face me our eyes locked for a brief second before quickly looking away. I couldn't help but blush at the sight of him, he was beautiful, I quickly shook out of my trance as I saw he was trying to talk to me.
"Slow day huh?" The strange man started walking around before picking up a very old necklace.
"You can say that again.. You're the only person to have walked in here today.. I've actually been quite lonely.." I sighed as I walked behind the counter of the shop. "I've never seen you around here before, so are you new to town?"
I looked over to the man who turned away from me as he continued to browse, but I swore I saw the tip of his ears turn red. "N-no! I'm not new, I've just ever been to this side of town before! Yeah. I was told by a... by a friend about your shop, so I decided to check it out for myself and they were right, you have everything here!" The man looked as if everything was all new to him.
"I'm glad your friend was able to recommend my shop, It used to be more packed but when that new shop opened up at the end of the street people stopped coming by and started going there instead, it hurts but I guess it's just life." I started playing with the loose sting that was hanging from my shirt sleeve. The man must've seen through me and knew I was sad because he had just offered to help me.
"What if I help you?" When I looked up at him I had a confused yet shocked expression.
"How? I don't even know you? And you don't even know me.. So why would you want to help me?" I could see his cheeks turn a bright red before he cleared his throat.
"W-well you see.. I-i'm a fortune teller! Yes that right I can tell your fortune for you, I specialize in past,present,and future readings tho, but I can tell your future and predict that your shop will be booming again!" I stared at him for a long while beginning to get a little suspicious but I also could use all the help I could get, I sighed before finally agreeing. "Fine, then read my fortune all mighty fortune teller.
I saw his stressed demeter calm down just the slightest before he pulled out a deck of cards from his bag, he started shuffling them before splitting them into 3 decks. "Ok pick a deck, then pick 3 cards from that deck." I did as told before setting the 3 cards I chose onto the table face down. He took a deep breath before flipping the first card up right. When he flipped it over I saw it was the sun. "The sun represents your past, it reflects happiness and contentment, vitality, self-confidence and success. Which just means you had a good childhood and faced your struggles head on which soon lead you to success." I stared at the card for a brief moment before I kindly asked him to continue. When he flipped over the second hard I saw it was the moon card. I was kinda shocked to have gotten the sun and the moon back to back but I was curious of what it meant. "The moon? What is it saying?" When I spoke out he frowned, probably not happy with the answer the card had given him.
"The moon represents your present day, it says a situation or person in your life is not what it appears to be and you need to trust what your instincts are telling you in order to see past this illusion.. T-this card is always spouting nonsense.. L-lets move on to the future shall we!" That's odd.. He got all weird after reading that card... Something is going on and I'm not sure if I like it..
"Sure... Let's move on then." I watched as he flipped over the final card.
"The lovers... This represents your future.. It's saying Remember the value of connection and communication. '' A new partnership may soon be in your future." I couldn't help but blush knowing what the card meant, one day I'll finally find love.. However when I looked back at the strange man I saw that he was glaring at the card, I was extremely confused but didn't bother to ask why.
"Ok let me get this straight, my past was great, I did have some struggles but I soon succeeded, now in my present someone or something isn't who they seem to be, and in the future i'll find love and be with my soul mate?" I raised my brow at him as I watched him fiddle with the cards in his hand.
"Yup that's basically the gist of it.." I watched as he looked all around the room except my face till his eyes landed on an old clock which hasn't worked in ages, and I think he knew that as well. "W-well will you look at the time! I-i gotta get going! I'm a very busy man! W-well by!" I was about to prevent him from leaving but as I reached out for him he was already out the door, but when I went to chase after him he was nowhere to be found as if he just vanished.. He was a very very strange man.. As I walked back inside the shop I had just realized I didn't get his name. I slapped my palm against my face as I groaned in frustration. Maybe I'll get his name next time, but there was something wrong with that guy.. If I ever see him again I'm going to find out!
Asra's P.O.V
As soon as I got back to my place in the godly realm my heart couldn't stop pounding, it felt like it was going to leap right out of my chest.. Those cards were way more specific than usual.. Maybe they were just trying to help me out.. I sighed before sliding down to the floor using my godly powers to bring up an image of the mortal... She was even more beautiful up close.. But when I ended up flipping over the moon card I nearly fainted.. It's as if they want to get me caught! I can't tell her that I'm a god! Ugh! If she finds out then I'm over! She'll probably freak out and run or get mad and never wish to see me again.. Why do mortal relationships have to be so complicated! As I was lost in my thoughts I didn't hear Julian walk in till he splashed me some water. "Gah! Julian! What was that for?!" I stood up ringing the water out of my now wet clothes.
Julian couldn't help but chuckle before flickering his wrist removing the water from my clothing. "Sorry dude but you were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't hear me ask you a question."
"Oh..." I looked down at the floor before looking back up. "What is it that you want to ask me?"
"It wasn't anything much but I was just wondering if you're alright? You look a bit freaked, which is new." I watched as he walked circles around me looking at me all over.
"It's nothing... Except for the fact that I went to the mortal realm and spoke to that mortal girl.." I tried so hard not to look him in the eyes, but it just made it really hard because I knew he was giving me a concerned look.
"Asra! You did what.. Asra.. I thought you said you weren't going to chase after her any more.. Your fantasy of being with that mortal won't come true.." I looked down at the floor as I felt a few tears trickle down my cheek.
"I know.. These emotions are all still new to me... First I'm feeling happy, then love... and now jealousy... I don't know what to do! I just want to be with her! Why can't gods and mortals be together!" I looked right into Julians eyes as more tears flowed down my cheeks. I swore I saw his heart break..
"Asra.. You know the rules... but like I always say... Rules are meant to be broken." I looked at him with a shocked expression.
"Does this mean you'll help me?!" He let out a small chuckle before wiping the tears from my eyes.
"I don't like seeing my friend's heart broken like this, so I'll try my best even if it means causing a tsunami." I glared at him before scolding him.
"No tsunamis! I want her to love me, I don't want her dead!" I watched him throw his hands up in defense.
"Ok, ok! No tsunamis but I can cause a storm that can cause her to stay indoors till you confess to her." I gave him a warm smile.
"Thanks Julian.. I don't know what I would do without you." I looked up at him to see him thinking knowing exactly what he's going to say.
"Probably single and alone while your mortal girlfriend loves someone else." I punched him in the arm causing him to laugh.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Julian had a smirk on his face.
"Yet~" I couldn't help but blush before nodding at his comment.
"Y-yeah.. Yet.." My face was now a deep red. "But before you cause the storm I want her to get to know me more.. So wait a month or a year.." He gave me a thumbs up.
"You got it!" After mine and Julians conversation we went on with our godly duties.
~1 Year Later~
(still Asra's P.O.V)
One year had just passed and (Y/N) and I had been getting along greatly. Luckily she no longer suspected me of anything but I will have to tell her that I'm a god sooner or later.. I'll probably tell her tonight.. Because tonight is the night Julian causes a huge storm.. My plan is to pretend to be wandering the storm with no place to go and to have just wandered towards her place. I've been to her place a few times for tea or just for dinner. We shared a lot of stories together from it being of her life or of what I do for a living, well we all know that I couldn't tell her the truth so I told her I was someone who just traveled around giving tarot readings for a living which is half true.. I was out walking to (Y/N)'s home when on cue a huge storm started along with heavy rain and lighting. I was now completely soaked, as I was walking down the streets I watched as the mortals hurried to bring in anything valuable inside. I finally managed to make it to (Y/N)'s front door before the storm got too bad, with one swift knock I waited till I heard her angelic voice call out. "Coming! Oh who could be out in this storm.. Shouldn't they be inside.." As that last sentence left her mouth, the door swung wide open only to reveal a very shocked (Y/N). "Asra! What are you doing out in this storm! Come on! Get inside before you catch a cold." Before I could say anything she grabbed me by the wrist tugging me inside where it's safe and draw, not to mention warm. "Asra, didn't you see the storm why are you here in the rain and cold.. Shouldn't you be home?" I frowned before shaking my head.
"I-i'm sorry for intruding.. My home was just too far for me to reach.. I was in town when the storm hit and y-you were the closest and only person that would actually give me shelter during a storm like this.." I looked down at my soaked clothes.
"Well of course I'll give you shelter! We've known each other for a year now, but of all my time living here I've never seen a storm this bad before.. It's almost godly.." I nearly choked as she said that.
"G-godly?! I-i don't know what you mean by that.. It's just a storm.. They happen.." I tried my hardest to act as natural as I can.
"Hmm.. Asra you alright bud? You're acting stranger than usual.. Are you sick?! I can go and run you a warm bath if you like?" I couldn't help but blush at the thought of that before shaking it out of my head.
"N-no! That's alright you don't have to.. I'm not sick at all, I'm perfectly fine!" I laughed nervously scratching the back of my neck which just made her glare at me even more, causing me to shrink back into my soaking wet clothes.
"Asra.. What's wrong.. I can't help you if you don't tell me what's going on.." I looked her in the eyes before frowning myself.
"Fine.. I'll tell you but let's do it in the living area.." She nodded her head as she followed me towards her living room, before taking a seat on the couch, I decided to remain standing, it was for the best after all.. I took a deep breath.. "(Y/N).. I-i've been feeling weird ever since I first met you.. My heart would pound so fast that it feels like it'll leap out of my chest.. I feel different when I'm around you.. I want to do things I've never thought of before.. But all these feelings.. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to tell you how I truly feel about you.."
When I looked into her (E/C) eyes I swore her pupils were in the shape of hearts, but that also could've just been my imagination.. "Asra... Do you... Do you love me?.." As she said that my heart started pounding faster than it had before I took the courage to nod my head up then down. I was hesitant at first but I managed..
"Y-yes.." I looked down at the floor scared that her silence was her way of rejecting my feelings for her.. That was until I felt her hand move to my chin, I hadn't realized that she had stood up but she was now standing in front of me face to face, her cheeks had a tint of red, I was about to speak but was silenced by her soft lips pressing against my own, my eyes grew wide before I slowly closed my eyes kissing back, however the kiss didn't last long because I had realized that she still didn't know the truth.. I broke apart from the kiss before looking away.. "W-we can't.. I-i'm sorry.." I could see her heart shatter.
"But Asra.. I feel the same about you.. I love you.." I couldn't help but bite my lip.
"I-i know.. But It's against the rules.." I couldn't help but tear up at the thought of breaking her heart.
"Rules? What do you mean asra? I'm confused.." When my eyes met hers once more I could tell she's close to tears, I put my hand to her cheek watching as she leaned into my palm.
"I'm not quite human.. It's forbidden because.. because..... because i'm a god! I'm the god of fortune.. I was scared to tell you... But a friend of mine convinced me that rules are meant to be broken.." As I finished I couldn't help but let out a choked sob, I was now crying, I collapsed to my knees as I continued to cry. All there was, was silence, she's scared and afraid I knew it.. I should've just stayed in the godly realm.. I would rather be heartbroken than to have her be sad and hurt.. Well that's what I thought at least until she spoke out in such a soothing voice.
"Asra.. Look at me.." I didn't want to face her but I knew I had to eventually.. I slowly lifted my head to face her, her beautiful (E/C) eyes were full of sadness but they weren't because I couldn't be with her... They were for me, she felt bad that I couldn't live a normal life to where I could be with the one I choose.. I couldn't start a family with them, It's all I ever wanted.. Was to be with her, but maybe it was just all a dream, and I'll wake up any second now in my room, in the godly realm.. But that kiss.. I-it felt so real.. "Asra.. I can't believe you're a god.. But then again this could be a joke.. but by the look in your eyes I can tell, it's all true.. Asra I do love you and I don't wish to see you hurt and broken like this.." She slowly knelt down so she was now at eye level with me..
"I-i'm sorry I didn't tell you.. I was scared.. I love you I truly do.. But the rules state gods can't be with mortals.." The more I think about it the more I feel like breaking down.
"Hm..." I looked at her as I saw her think for a bit. "I love you, and you love me.. Your friend did say rules are meant to be broken... So why not take the risk and be with me, what's the worst that could happen.." I wiped my tears away from my eyes as I sat up.
"I could lose my title as god and become mortal.." Hm... Now that I think about it, I guess that does sound great other than bad but I don't know.. If I lose my title then Julian will be left without a friend. I was lost in thought before she lifted my chin up so I was facing her once again.
"If you become mortal.. Then we'll be together.. But knowing you, your friend is also probably a god.. So, let's be sneaky and have a secret relationship because I've been feeling weird around you as well.. My heart beats for you.. I love you.. I guess the cards were right after all" She couldn't help but laugh at our first encounter. "You were hiding in an illusion of passing yourself as mortal, and I found love in my near future." She gently placed a gentle kiss on the top of my head. She remembered.. I couldn't help but let a small smile spread to my lips especially when she's willing to have a relationship with me even though I'm a god.. S-she doesn't care.. All she cares about is her love for me.. I thought it over, which didn't take that long, I'm going to listen to Julian and to my love. Rules are meant to be broken.. As the storm started to clear we shared one last passionate kiss before heading back home. My heart was full and so was my love for her, I can't wait for our next encounter.. Or should I say our next date.

Journal Entry #46 (part one)
Tumblr media
previously - Journal Entry #45
Yuri
Victor came home on Thursday afternoon.
In a plot twist that I should've seen coming, I was left to cope with Victor's hospital discharge alone. My father, who'd insisted on staying with me since the previous Friday night, suddenly declared on Thursday morning at breakfast that he was going back to his house.
For all his talk about how important I am to him and how he felt uncomfortable with me being by myself, I saw that I was once again lower than everybody else on his list of priorities. Even Koichi, his personal assistant and Yuki's de facto babysitter, apparently rates higher than me. It was a call from Koichi that sent him scurrying back down to the valley. I don't know what it was about, but whatever it was, it obviously rated higher than me and Victor. It was probably some business emergency, because clearly the threat of losing money is always more urgent than consistently supporting his son.
As angry as I was about him leaving at the precise moment I needed him most, that wasn't my only emotion. There was some measure of relief mixed in with my anger, as contradictory as that sounds. Our week together had been tense. It was as if we'd been performing some sort of complex dance on a floor made of glass. One misstep by either of us, and the whole fragile foundation would shatter and damage us both.
I don't know if I could've handled more of that and the stress of caring for Victor too. Besides, Victor would never have tolerated Papa's presence, and perhaps he knew that as well. Maybe his abrupt exit was for the best, notwithstanding how confusing and hurtful it felt to me.
I hate that my relationship with my father is so fraught. I wish we could be more like my friends and their parents. Takahiro can go to his father and mother about anything without worrying about being criticized or judged. Seiji is so close with his parents that all three of them cried when he moved out to a house less than a kilometer away, and Mr. Hinamori kept saying how proud he was of Seiji's newfound independence. My father, in contrast, tried to stop me from moving out by telling me I was too weak and frail to live alone, but then didn't even help me put my suitcases in my car on the day I left. Recently, he barely batted an eyelash when I told him I'm considering immigrating to Canada.
Honestly, I don't know what to think. Most of what Papa does for me, when he does anything at all, seems to be performative, like he's doing it because he's my father and certain things are expected. But then, there are times when I almost believe his concern is real, like last Friday night when he came back to the hospital to check on Victor and me and offered to drive me home. I'll probably never discover the truth, though. I've already resigned myself to that.
But, I was telling you about Victor, wasn't I?
Unfortunately, I'd been living under the false expectation that once Victor was home again, everything would somehow be okay. I thought maybe, once he was in a familiar place, he'd be less depressed and scared, and he'd start to feel more confident about trying to do a few small things for himself. At the very least, I'd hoped that he would be able to walk from the sitting room to the bathroom by himself, even if he did need my help while he was in there.
Needless to tell you, every assumption I made was wrong.
I had absolutely no clue how dependent Victor would be, and how difficult and exhausting it would be to have him home. Don't get me wrong; I'm glad he's out of the hospital, but I was utterly unprepared for it. It's only Saturday, and our current reality is already starting to take a toll on me. Fortunately, Dr. Grace and Dr. Julian are here to help us now, but that's a whole story on its own, and I'll come back to it later.
Tumblr media
As Dr. Sato had foreshadowed earlier in the week, she sent Victor home in a wheelchair. After a round of neurological, orthopaedic and motor function tests that took up a good chunk of the day on Wednesday, all the doctors and technicians agreed that there was no physical reason why he shouldn't be able to walk. It was the psychologist that assessed him on Thursday morning who officially reported what I, and probably everybody else, had known since Sunday. The problem is in his head, but in a part of his brain that the doctors couldn't see with their various scans. The issue is a purely conceptual one. In short, Victor can't walk because he's convinced himself that he can't.
I'll admit, I hadn't been thrilled about the wheelchair when Dr. Sato first mentioned it. For his part, Victor hadn't seemed to care one way or the other, and barely reacted when I rolled him out of the hospital in it.
We must've been a sight, making our way across the hospital parking lot with Victor slumped in his wheelchair and huddled in a blanket like a disaster survivor, and me struggling with the unfamiliar task of pushing him. He'd outright refused to wear his competition jacket, and I hadn't brought another coat for him since I incorrectly guessed he'd wear the one he already had with him. It was a bitterly cold day and I couldn't take him outside without something to protect him from the elements, so I'd had to go out to the car and collect the big red fleece blanket we usually keep in the back seat to wrap him in. The end result was that it looked like I was kidnapping a homeless person. It was something Victor and I might normally have laughed about, but at that moment, nobody was in the mood for laughing.
Despite my initial misgivings about the wheelchair, I'm grateful for it now. I'd never be able to get Victor from one room to another without it.
We were limited to the downstairs portion of the house for the remainder of Thursday and all of yesterday. The wheelchair was of no use on the stairs, and I realized fairly quickly that I lacked both the skill and the physical strength to help Victor up to his bedroom, so he spent Thursday night on one of the sofas in the sitting room. I occupied the other one. I would've liked to be in my bed, but I decided I'd better stay close to Victor, in case he needed anything in the night.
As it turned out, my instincts were good. He needed quite a lot during the night, and neither one of us got much sleep because of it.
One of the side effects of the pain medication Dr. Sato prescribed for him is abdominal discomfort and nausea, and that was the main reason our rest was interrupted. He had almost nothing in his stomach due to his continued refusal to eat, but that didn't prevent him from repeatedly heaving into the bin I'd brought down from the upstairs bathroom as if there actually was something his body needed to expel. I'm sure you can imagine how much pain that caused him, especially with his cracked rib, and it led to bouts of heart-wrenching tears which I felt inadequate to soothe, although I tried my best.
The thing with many painkillers is that they don't eliminate the most severe pain. They dull it enough to make you reasonably comfortable and more or less functional, presuming you don't do anything to exacerbate it in the meantime. Something like throwing up multiple times when you have a rib fracture, for example.
The cruel irony of the situation, I knew, was that Victor wouldn't have been so sick if only he would eat. I had that same pain medication once, and my stomach had been so upset that I thought the meds were making the symptoms of my illness worse instead of better, until Victor read the instruction sheet that came with them and pointed out to me that they were supposed to be taken with food. After much comforting and coaxing, he got me to eat a bowl of yogurt and fruit half an hour or so before my next dose, and the difference it made was remarkable.
I was sure Victor must've been starving, but no amount of pleading seemed sufficient to persuade him to eat, Normally, he loves food and eats enough to make my belly sore just watching him, but the most I could get him to consume on Thursday was half of a cut-up apple and a few spoonfuls of sweet rice.
He didn't want me to feed him and he said he couldn't manage it by himself, and at that point we didn't have any other options. I was desperately afraid he'd become dehydrated, which would've opened up a whole new set of problems, but luckily he's able and willing to hold his water bottle between both hands, so at least he can drink on his own.
Tumblr media
Around two in the morning, he finally fell asleep, only to wake up again about an hour later, literally screaming. I have to tell you, I've never heard a sound like that come out of a human in real life before. It was like something you might expect in a horror movie. I think I'd been on the threshold of drifting off, but all traces of sleep instantly vanished when I heard Victor making that noise.
I nearly tumbled onto the floor in my haste to get to him. He'd turned over in his sleep so he was facing the back of the sofa, and he was thrashing against it with his left hand and arm with enough force that I was certain he'd get injured even more seriously than he already was.
I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to touch him, in case he accidentally struck me with his flailing arm, but I didn't not want to touch him either. I needed to find out what was wrong, and help him if I could, or get help if I couldn't.
"Victor!" I exclaimed, too frightened and breathless to get out much of anything else.
"Get it off me!" His voice sounded even more strained and terrified than mine. "I can't move!"
I said his name again, perhaps a little louder and more urgently. Swallowing my fear, I caught him by the shoulder and used all my strength to pull him toward me. I succeeded in rolling him over, and he flopped onto his back with an inarticulate sound of distress. His eyes were wild, and he was gasping so hard that I was worried he might stop breathing.
"Victor, what's wrong?" I cried, too overwhelmed to be calm. "What can I do?"
He didn't answer straight away, which in hindsight is unsurprising. It took him several seconds to get his breathing under control enough to speak.
When he finally recovered his voice, he said shakily. "I... I lost control on a turn."
"I know," I said. "Were you dreaming about that?"
"Y-yeah." He gulped air. "Did I wake you?"
"No," I assured him, not exactly glad he'd been having a nightmare, but infinitely grateful it wasn't something more serious. "I was still awake. It's all right."
"It felt real, like it was happening again."
"You're safe now," I said, as I knelt beside the sofa. "Are you okay? Is there anything you need?"
"Just stay here."
"I'm not going anywhere."
"Okay," he said. He lay there for several seconds with his eyes closed, breathing slowly and deliberately. When he finally opened his eyes and turned his head toward me, his expression looked calmer but his eyes were no less haunted. "I flipped over. I don't know how many times. Then I knew I was gonna crash into the gate and there was nothing I could do. I didn't mean to put my arms out, but I panicked."
"It must've happened fast," I said. "You wouldn't have had much time to react."
"Everything went black," he whispered. "I thought I was yelling, but I couldn't hear myself."
"Takeshi said you were yelling in the first few seconds after it happened," I confirmed. "He said you lost consciousness almost immediately after that, though."
"When I woke up, I realized I was tied down and I was in the ambulance with Takeshi and some woman, and I couldn't move," he said. "I know they had to, 'cause they didn’t want me to fall off, but I didn't like it.”
“Off the rescue board, you mean?”
“I didn't remember any of this stuff before, but now I do," he said. "I wanted to tell Takeshi I didn't like it. I couldn't move, and I thought I was paralyzed, and I kept trying to tell Takeshi I couldn't see, but... but I couldn't make any words come out, and..." He raised a hand in what I guessed was an attempt to cover his face, and let out a little sob when his cast came in contact with his skin. "I hate this. I wish I still didn't remember."
"I'm sorry," I said, because I was at a complete loss as to how else I should respond.
"I just want to go to sleep and not dream about anything," he said. "I want to go to sleep and... that's it. Not dream, and maybe not even wake up ever again, 'cause this is a nightmare too."
"Please don't say that,” I said.
“Why? It’s how I feel. It is a nightmare. I don’t want to live like this.”
"You're not going to have casts on your arms forever."
"I'm not talking about my arms," he said.
"I don't know what I'd do without you. What would I do if you went to sleep and never woke up?"
"You wouldn't have to deal with me any more.”
I bit my lip, mostly in an effort to distract myself from the ache in the center of my chest. Hearing him talk like that was painful, not just because a future without him would be devastating to me, but because I couldn’t bear the thought of him believing his life was suddenly worth nothing and that I’d be better off without him.
“I don’t want you to go to sleep and never wake up,” I told him.
His reply was, “I don’t want you to suffer because of me.”
I reached out to touch his fingers, but he whimpered and jerked his arm away from mine. I wasn’t sure if I’d hurt him, or if he simply couldn’t handle the physical contact.
Tumblr media
Lowering my hand to my lap, I sighed. "How can I make you understand? None of this is easy or fun for me, but I promised I'd be with you for better or worse, and I don't intend to break that promise. Maybe that means I’m going to suffer a bit, but I’m not about to walk away just because things aren’t the way they used to be.”
“Maybe you should.”
“I won’t,” I said.
"I don't want you to take care of me.”
"I know you don't," I acknowledged. "But, you haven't got much choice until your mother and stepfather get here, have you?"
It was his turn to sigh. "I guess not."
"What I need to understand is why you don't want me to help you," I said. "What can your mother do for you that I can't?"
I don't know what I expected, but his next words weren't it. He began to cry, and told me, "I've already complicated your life enough because I’m stupid. I don't want to make it worse."
"You’re not stupid.”
"All of this… It's my fault."
"I've told you a dozen times already, it's not your fault,” I said. “If anybody should take the blame, it's me. If I'd been there—”
"It would've been the same thing," he said. "If you were there, you would've been thinking about your job the whole time, so it wouldn't have mattered. It's my own fault because I was angry and upset, and I knew it was making me too unfocused to compete, but I did it anyway."
"You wouldn't have been so upset if it weren't for me."
"Maybe not, but if I wasn't so dumb and immature, maybe I would’ve just gotten over it instead of sulking about it. Or maybe I would've backed out of the competition. But I stayed in it because I wanted to prove I could do it, with or without you there. I know it makes no sense, but I wanted you to be proud of me if I won, and at the same time I wanted you to be sorry you missed it."
"I am sorry I wasn't there," I said. "And I'm always proud of you, regardless of whether you win snowboarding competitions or not."
"None of it matters now, anyway," he said.
"Of course it does. I still love you and I'm still proud of you."
"For what? I'm never going to compete again. I can't travel or go to university or do any of the other stuff I was gonna do, and I can't look after you the way you need me to. My whole future... my whole life is just... gone."
"Not your whole life," I said. "You still have me."
"But, why?" he asked. "I'm no use to you like this."
"Do you think you have to be useful for me to love you? Do you think I'm only with you for what I can get out of it? If that's what you think, then maybe you are stupid after all.”
I regretted that last sentence the second it eft my mouth. Tiredness and frustration had erased all my filters, and without pause for consideration, I'd given voice to exactly what had been in my mind.
I don't actually think Victor is stupid, but I can't deny that I was starting to wonder what was going through his head. It was as if he was still questioning my love and devotion, and if anything he'd said or done over the past week hurt me, that certainly did.
The effect of what I'd said was to make Victor cry even harder than he already had been doing. "I'm sorry," he said, his words barely audible through his tears. "I... I don't think that. It's just... I promised I'd always protect you, and... and now I'm failing at it."
"Yes, you are right now," I agreed, "but not in the way you think you are."
"What?" He sniffled loudly, and he looked as if he was about to swipe his hand across his face, but only stopped himself at the last moment. With a grunt of frustration, he observed. "I have to wipe my damn nose, and I can't."
"Let me help you with that," I said.
He made an unhappy noise, but didn't protest any more strenuously. "Okay."
It took some effort to sit him up, but once he was upright, I fetched the box of tissues from the table and used a few to dry his eyes and wipe his face. Holding a few more under his nostrils, I gently encouraged him to blow his nose, just like I'd seen my mother do with Yuki when she was a toddler. I was a mildly shocked when he actually did it, and even more so that I didn’t flinch at the warm dampness that leaked over the edge of the tissue and onto my fingers.
I could hardly believe I was doing such a thing and wasn't even put off by it. Under normal circumstances, I'd find anything to do with bodily functions disgusting, but miraculously, I was managing intimate tasks like face wiping, nose blowing and bathroom assistance with only minimal squeamishness. I've astounded myself by discovering this hidden ability, honestly.
Tumblr media
Once Victor was sufficiently tidied up and I’d thoroughly washed my hands at the kitchen sink, I came back to the sitting room and climbed onto the sofa with him. He didn't exactly crawl onto my lap, but I helped him arrange his limbs so that his legs formed a bridge across mine and his arms were tucked against my chest. He was curled up enough that he was able to rest his head on my shoulder. I reached up to pet his hair.
"Comfortable?" I asked, although in that position, I couldn’t imagine he was.
"As I can be," he said. "What'd you mean before?"
"You said you're failing at protecting me," I said.
"Yeah."
"And you think that means...?"
"You know. Taking care of you. Making sure you're happy and safe, and that you have everything you need. Making sure you don't get hurt."
"And you have to be strong and tough to do all that, right?" I said. "Not show any signs of weakness?"
"Yeah," he said.
"What if I told you that trying to prove how strong you are is actually hurting me more than helping me?"
He sounded perplexed. "How?"
"Remember when we were staying at the hotel in Kyoto? I told you then that I wanted to take care of you the way you take care of me," I said. "I didn't necessarily mean like this, although this is part of it too. The main goal was to stop making everything about me, and consider your needs more, All your needs, not just physical things. And you said you liked the sound of that, remember?"
"It sounded good, but I didn't think you meant it," he admitted. "Not that you were lying to me or something, but like, how can you not make it all about you when you just... need so much?"
"Relationships aren't supposed to be one-sided, Victor. I think we should both understand that by now, don't you? Just because it looks like I need a lot, that doesn't mean you don't need anything or that I’m incapable of giving you what you need.”
"It didn't bother me that much," he said. "I didn't really mind if it was all about you."
"But, it can't be all about me. That's the point I'm trying to make. It's not fair, and it's not practical, particularly right now."
"I guess."
"You might have thought I didn't mean it, but I did," I said. "I do, and you know, the fact that you don't seem to trust me to take care of you really hurts."
"I trust you," he insisted, although his tone seemed to lack conviction.
"Do you?" I countered. "Because that's not what it looks like from where I'm sitting. Did you ever consider that I need to feel like an equal partner in this relationship? I love how much energy you put into looking after me, but what I don't love is being shut down when I try to give even a tiny bit of nurturing back to you. If you're failing me in any way, it's that."
He was silent for a while, but then he said quietly, "I'm sorry."
"Let me take care of you," I said.
"But, you can't—" he began
"I want to, and I certainly can. Let me have the chance to prove it."
There was another, longer stretch of silence, and then a pitiful, "It's hard."
He didn't elaborate, but I understood. It's hard not being the strong one. It's hard to switch roles in a relationship. It's hard to give up control.
"I know, love," I said. "I know it's hard for you, but I think we'd both feel better if you tried."

19 years ago today (September 23 2003) One Tree Hill premiered on the WB.
To celebrate I thought I'd post yet another opinion thread about my favorite show of all time.
Nathan Scott is quite possibly the best teen drama boy/man to ever exist. He had his flaws, but was ultimately the best husband, father, brother, and son anyone could ask for. Despite having a rough childhood, he managed to overcome and stop the toxic cycle of neglect/abuse. He made his children's lives something he had wished for himself. It takes a strong person to do that. Forever will love this man.
Tumblr media
Lucas Scott aggravates me to no end.
3x20 is TV excellence. That no look shot is iconic and nothing will ever top that moment in TV.
Nobody does music like OTH. All those performances? Amazing.
Nathan and Haley >>>>> every other couple on the show. Idc what anyone says they were the #1 ship to come out of OTH. They went through hard times, but came out stronger in the end. I don't think there's any other TV couple with this much of a hold on me. And I've watched a lot of TV shows lol. They make me feel so comfy and warm inside. They're safe and overall written so damn well.
Tumblr media
Going with what I said above, James and Joy's chemistry is what made Naley work tbh. They had such insane chemistry and it's mind boggling that they never even had a chemistry read when auditioning. OTH writers struck gold with them.
Dan is one of the best villains in TV show history.
Grandpa Dan....an angel lmao
Tumblr media
It legit infuriates me that CMM was looked at as the heartthrob of the show when James Lafferty was right there. That man was and is still gorgeous. And if I'm being honest, his acting felt more natural to me than CMM. But that's a conversation for another day lol
We should've got more Skills than Mouth
Brooke's best seasons were the adult seasons tbh. Yes, she had iconic moments in the high school years, but her actual development doesn't really hit until the adult years imo
I'm convinced they only did the Nathan/Brooke sextape because they wanted the audience to sympathize with Peyton. Also Nathan and Brooke are quite possibly the most liked characters, the writers probably thought why not try destroying their development 🙄🙄
I loved Jamie 🤷🏻‍♀️ it seems like so many people find him annoying but I loved him lol I can understand why he might be annoying to some, but I really enjoyed him and thought he was a great addition to the show. He had great chemistry with all the core characters
6x03 is the saddest episode in TV history and if you don't cry watching it, you're not human
Tumblr media
Nathan's NBA story arc is amazing storytelling. I loved every minute of it and believe it's one of, if not, the best story arc to come out of the show
Tumblr media
Peyton was so much more likeable when she wasn't with Lucas. I honestly enjoyed her and Lucas being friends way more than when they got together
I didn't mind Lucas and Lindsay
Season 9 was so chaotic, but I loved it
I loved how Julian went from this hot mysterious producer to an absolute dork that loved chasing butterflies. Best development lol
Tumblr media
This cast deserved an award for 3x16. The acting was on point. The storyline was on point. One of the most well done sch*ol sh*oting episodes I've seen a TV show pull off. It's a shame they barely got any credit for it
Never got the appeal to Karen/Keith. I honestly shipped Deb/Keith more lol
Nathan's depression storyline deserved better. The writers dropped the ball on a lot of mental health storylines, but this one in particular upsets me. First it was the race car incident in season 2. He should've gone to therapy. Then it was season 5 and his back injury. It felt as though he was being told get over it and "man up" when that sends a pretty toxic message. The scene with Peyton and him in the hospital pissed me off. As if seeing a child with cancer is supposed to make him feel better. I get what they were trying to get across, but it could've been done differently. Also Haley throwing dishes/bottles???? Why? Great acting moment from Joy, but unnecessary for Haley's character. I also applaud James for his acting throughout this storyline. Just wish it was written better.
Continuing with the above statement, Haley's depression storyline was done much better. It was a bit rushed, but it wasn't as frustrating to watch.
I always preferred Brooke and Haley's friendship to Brooke and Peyton's
Tumblr media
Brooke and Nathan's friendship deserved more screen time. That scene when Nathan goes to check on her before Quentin's funeral will forever break me
Tumblr media
Nathan getting harassed in the shower doesn't get talked about enough. Absolutely foul.
Although I loved Brooke getting her happy ending, I kinda wish they settled with her adopting instead of miraculously being able to have kids. Her adopting would've been more relatable.
Rachel deserved better
Quinn deserved better writing. I feel like she was treated more like eye candy than anything. Justice for Shantel VanSanten
FUCK M*RK S*HWAHN
I have many more opinions, but this is already long enough lol. Anyways, this show will always and forever have a place in my heart.

A little after 1 AM, Las Vegas
Gabe can't help but smirk at the look of mischief in Alex's eyes as they stood by a quiet spot in the middle of Las Vegas. With her in that glittery dress, he somehow can't bring himself to part from her yet.
He knew it wasn't only him who felt that tingling in his fingertips when he brushed her cheeks, her breath smelling strongly of martini. He was very aware that Alex felt the same when she stared back at him, standing at that cramped cheap chapel while an Elvis impersonator stood nearby. The moment she stepped away when he said that it's just all pretend made Gabe's heart ache with regret.
So here they were, standing awkwardly after he shot down her advances again.
But he was sure he didn't want the night to end here.
After calling for a car, he shoved his phone inside the pocket of his slacks and turned to Alex.
"I was serious when I said I wanted a celebratory drink," he glanced apologetically to his side where she stood. "Our hotel bar offers my favorite scotch."
Alex raised her head, smiling. "Knew you had it in you, Gabe."
A car ride and a couple of glasses of Lagavulin later, there they were, lounging on stools at their opulent hotel bar, warm lights and jazz music providing a backdrop on the casual atmosphere.
"And I could not believe the rat thing worked! Who would've known they kept a rat in there as a pet? Like really?" Alex raised her glass to her lips, as Gabe sat on the barstool beside her, cradling his own drink.
"Beginner's luck, I would believe," he chuckled in reply, leaning forward, tie loosened and his coat hanging at the back of his chair.
"I am so offended," Alex gasped as she shoved her hands flat on her chest in mock disbelief. "I'm not only the boring nerd when I was in high school, Gabe. I was that nerd who sang and dance at the drama club!"
Gabe shook his head, his lips pursing. "That makes so much damn sense, Alex." He took another swig of his third shot, fighting for dear life from laughing his heart out. Not wanting to give her that satisfaction, he threw a sarcastic dig at her remark. "That's so believable, seeing you could snatch an Oscar from Meryl Streep herself and the no one wouldn't even bat an eye."
"Ah, law was plan A, sir." she saluted, placing her empty glass on the bar counter. "Acting was a fallback in case it didn't pan out." she giggled.
Gabe grinned as he rolled up his sleeves, beckoning the bartender for another round. "You should have made it your plan A, seeing how you turned out," he teased, bringing up the fun bit they did to retrieve a copy of Lydia Rothswell's marriage certificate. The very same act that almost made Gabe kiss Alex in the middle of The Strip.
"Aww, Gabe, finally found a better lawyer than you? Feeling threatened yet?" Alex leaned in, snickering as their glasses were refilled. "Don't worry, I' ll settle for being a Junior Partner for now," she said as she reclined, before throwing in a playful wink.
"Well someone's head just became bigger," he gave her a smug look.
"Just trying to keep up with all the cockiness in the room," she smiled coyly, watching Gabe's stupefied expression. It was clear then that she scored a slam dunk at the championship of comebacks, laughing at his astonishment.
Gabe finally gave up, joining Alex in her laughter. As their joy receded, he let himself take in the sight of Alex without any inhibitions. What he was beginning to see was the extent of her wit, her ability to keep her cool, and the sharp humor that matched only his.
Under the warm light of the lounge, she brilliantly shone. He couldn't focus at what she was now saying as he danced at the appeal of them becoming more than colleagues. Perhaps he resisted his own feelings long enough that he was past the point of denial. Or simply because he was starting to get drunk.
Though before he can even begin to consider that, he was still sober enough to know that he first needed to tell her the truth.
The truth that sometime long ago, their paths have already crossed. And that he did something very horrible.
Call him cynical, but he wasn't kidding when he admitted he was an all-or-nothing kind of guy. And that meant laying down all his cards on the table. Because for him, Alex was more than the occasional one-night stand. And he can't be certain of how long he could keep himself from his budding feelings, all stakes be damned.
What better time to be honest when there was enough alcohol in his system to prevent all rational thinking? It's now or never, he figured.
"Alex, I -"
"Alessandra? Alessandra Keating?" a deep voice came from behind him, interrupting Gabe. He cocked his head to get a clearer view, as a man with slicked back blonde hair approached from a private booth nearby.
Without hesitation, the tall stranger in the dark suit stepped forward, his striking features Gabe would have easily recognized anywhere. That face was almost in every blockbuster movie in the last five years.
"Julian? What are you doing here?" Alex asked, as abashed as he was. Gabe saw how she clammed up the very second she recognized the man.
"Oh my, it really is you!" the man stopped beside Alex's bar stool, welcoming himself to their company. The way he was looking up and down at her made Gabe's jaw clench so hard, his teeth gritted. But the man's next movement stunned him all the more. In front of him, the man embraced Alex, making Gabe suddenly want to combust. His tumbler could've shattered if he tightened his grip on it a little more.
"Uhm, Julian, hi," Gabe surveyed Alex as she writhed within the man's arms, waiting for any signal from her so he could do something, anything, to make this man go away. But she assured him with one look, shifting a little, making the man who wedged himself between them release her.
"It's been so long! When was the last time I saw you, like, 12, 13 years ago?" the man exclaimed, his annoying smile making Gabe want to slam his fist somewhere. And it wasn't on the bar counter.
Gabe heard Alex scoff, fighting hard to regain her composure. "Yeah, high school," Her icy demeanor took over, one that Gabe only saw in the courtroom. She brushed her dress as she tilted her head to Gabe's direction.
The man turned to Gabe, the surprise evident as he acknowledged Gabe's presence behind him. The two men sized each other up sending an undercurrent of tension between them. Before Gabe could even consider acting out of impulse, Alex cleared her throat to diffuse his temper.
"Julian, this is Gabe. Gabe, this is Julian, my -"
"Ex," Julian interjected, before turning his attention to the lawyer. Apparently, this guy had a habit, Gabe observed. "We were together senior year. Alessandra, my angel, we had the best time together, didn't we? We looked good together, at least after Alex thought to improve her image here. Sadly, we had to break up. Teenage romances, you know?"
The picture couldn't be any clearer; this was the person Alex was speaking about during their dinner back in New York. And hearing the way he talked, no wonder Julian got under her skin. He was a damned manipulative pretentious liar. Gabe could hear the dishonesty between the words, not an ounce of authenticity in sight while the blonde hotshot rambled on.
Alex wasn't showing any sympathy either, her brown eyes staring daggers at him, as he went on about his monologue, emphasizing on how she was his back then. She was clearly infuriated by his attempt to own her, as well as his lack of shame. As Gabe quietly considered her reaction, he deliberated on a strategy to put her out her misery. The moment an idea came to mind, he gave Alex a subtle look asking her to back his play.
Alex nodded, sitting a little straighter. Finding the instant shift in her, Gabe made his move.
"Sweetheart," he slowly raised his voice as he said the endearment, enjoying the contempt from the other guy when he was interrupted. "You never told me Julian Wintour was your ex."
Alex smiled smugly, appearing pleased with the nickname Gabe chose, a clear pun on the whole high school sweetheart trope. "Never crossed my mind, babe. It's such an unimportant detail in my past," she waved her hand dismissively.
"Ah, nonsense," he finished his drink and gestured for the bartender to clean up. "Mr. Wintour's history would have made a good conversation starter." Gabe straightened his vest and stood, collecting his coat. He sauntered towards Alex, circling around the now speechless Julian. He draped his jacket over her shoulders, clearly making a statement before he reached for her hand, wrapping it in his.
"Why? Isn't the shiny nameplate of Senior Partner not good enough?" Alex expertly rode along, locking eyes with her former flame before gazing back at Gabe enticingly. "Forgive him, Julian. My lovely boyfriend here has a bad hobby of underselling himself," she smiled warmly, the irony of her statement eluding her ex. Gabe was about to smirk with her ingenuity, stopping when he felt her arm slowly wrapping around his waist. He barely stifled a groan at the intimacy of her touch.
The other man went beet red at the gesture. For embarrassment or infuriation or both, Gabe didn't fucking care. All he cared about was for Alex to slap this douche's face, metaphorically speaking.
"Anyway, Julian, it's been a pleasure. It's been a long night, and we're about ready to retire at our penthouse suite," steadily, she got up from her seat. The command in her was undeniable, forcing anyone to feel nothing but regret the day they decided Alessandra Keating wasn't good enough for them. Then with a flourish, she turned around as she let Gabe take her away from her past lover's scrutinizing gaze.
Inside the elevator, Gabe caught Alex's exhale of relief, probably thankful that Julian was out of her sight. Gabe still held onto her hand, though Alex didn't seem to notice. As they began their ascent, he waited for her to break the silence, deciding that the questions running in his mind can wait.
"I would have traded my rankings for the look of disbelief in Julian's face," Alex said turning to him, to which Gabe arched his brow.
He smirked devilishly, knowing Alex could take the hint. "I believe I could offer a sight better than that."
She grinned at the innuendo, further lightening up the mood between them. "One day, Gabe, I'll take you up on that," she said, crossing her legs as she leaned on the polished wall behind her. "Though I'm sure you're dying to know... How did I end up dating the Julian Wintour?"
Gabe pondered before answering. "Hmm, actually not the first one that comes to mind, no." He tapped against his temple. "I doubted you would ever bat an eyelash to his direction."
Her eyebrows rose. "Ah, you think so highly of me." She chuckled, shaking her head at his reply. "But yes, he was my ex. And yes, he was the red on my ledger. He was my first love," she admitted. "That ideal, once in a lifetime, true love everyone's talking about? Julian was it, or at least I thought he was." she sighed, glancing at her reflection on the polished metal panel beside her. "But when things started to go downhill for me, he was the first one to walk out," she paused, taking a deep breath. "By cheating on me."
Gabe's body went rigid, clenching his fists so hard until his nails dug unto his palms. What the fucking hell? I know I should have punched that guy's perfect teeth! He decided against airing his vengeful thoughts, staying quiet as he glimpsed at her image on the walls.
"Joey reminded me how Julian made me doubt myself. If I'm really over what he's done to me, if he's still in my head," she continued, rubbing at her nape. Gabe felt her gaze fall on him, which he reciprocated. "But after walking out from him tonight, I am much more certain that I made it out, after all."
Gabe felt her squeeze his hand as she said those words, and his heart somersaulted inside his chest. "So thanks. I needed that little nudge," she said in finality.
He turned to beam at her as he relished the triumph in her words, hoping that it was enough to convey that he was proud of her. And to be part of that discovery about herself, about who she always was in his eyes - someone who was his equal.
When they arrived at her floor, she gently freed her hand from his grasp invoking a sharp exhale from him. She stepped out of the elevator, her gait as undeterred as ever. But then she turned, her soft expression dimmed by the lack of light. "And while we're on the subject of appreciation," she uttered, before dropping one last revelation.
"Thanks for that save you also gave me ten years ago," Alex glanced up at him with half-lidded eyes, her words laced with meaning.
It took him a few moments before he could even comprehend what she was trying to convey. He searched her eyes for some explanation but found none. "What do you mean, Alex?" he said, managing to find his voice.
"I know exactly who you are, Gabriel Ricci."
With that, the doors slowly closed in front of him, her sly smile fading from his sight until he can only see his own reflection. He examined her last sentence, repeating the words over and over in his head. There was only one plausible explanation: she only knew half of the truth. His body sagged against the wall as he shut his eyes, angry at himself.
No Alex, I think you really don't.
Author's Notes: Thank you for your continued reading! As some of you may have already noticed, this part was written purely in Gabe's POV because I wanted to expose his conflicted feelings for Alex. It's probably my own version of revenge, with PB stretching that slow burn as much as they could 🤭 Share your thoughts in the comments, I'd really appreciate it! 💖

Lucie, half asleep: Aren't they too hot?
Matthew: Blow on them first, idiot.

Cashier: Sir?
Ty: I want to speak to a lawyer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The best way to keep whatever problems one has out of their mind was to do something they liked. That was the only way Cassian kept from spiraling. Since sending the woman to her own house, Cassian had more than a few moments when he wanted to repeatedly slam his head against a wall. That’s why he spent most of his time sparring with Azriel. He won’t admit he was simping for that woman in his free time too. Or maybe that was always.
Now, sprawled on a couch in front of the TV, with nothing to do but stare at a blank screen, Cassian led his thoughts to the box he kept all unwanted thoughts locked in. He thought about Tomas, her ex-boyfriend. Funny, he thought. I know her ex's name but not hers.
It took him a little too long the other day to realise they didn't exchange names. Again. He once thought that maybe she was purposely not giving him her name. That maybe, for her, he was just a random stranger who happened to save her life. He snorted. Surely anyone would know the name of the person they saved or was saved by— stranger or not. He supposed he'll have to make do with pronouns for now.
After she left his home, it took every scrap of self-restraint not to beat this Tomas dude to pulp and let him rot in the same alley he had the misfortune of meeting him in. He may or may not have been the cause for some extra injuries. Cassian appreciated the woman’s attempt at mercy. He, however, didn’t trust Tomas at all. He was dubious about just handing him over to the police. Who’s to know he won’t frame him and the woman for absurd things? Anyway, he left a note in Tomas’s house saying something like “Step out of line, lose your favourite part of anatomy. Name it and have it for your meal.” He made sure he printed so that no one would recognise his writing. Yet, all this didn’t calm his nerves one bit. He presumed he’ll have to stay on guard for some time now.
Now, back to the girl. He sighed. He didn’t dare change the sheets in his guest bedroom. He didn’t even let Mor use the room when she came over last weekend— which he could bet created suspicion. No, that room was only open when he craved her scent. He even realised one of his shirts was missing. He shrugged it off thinking he would've left it somewhere and just couldn't find it. Once she came to his house, he was constantly thinking about her. So much that now he started pinching himself often. It was the only way he could stop thinking about her— by creating physical pain.
Cassian glanced at the clock on the wall. 2.30 in the afternoon. He walked to the refrigerator and checked his freezer compartment. Huh. No ice-cream. He sighed, grabbed his jacket and keys and headed to the mall to get an ice-cream with a pout. He’ll have to leave for Rhys and Feyre’s first anniversary only around 5.30 to prepare everything. He has enough time to get an ice-cream and probably hang out for some time. Good enough to stop thinking about her. Or so he thought.
***
Nesta wasn’t sore anymore. Her headache was gone almost a week after the incident. Her nose didn’t hurt anymore. Okay, maybe a little bit. It didn’t hurt unless she bumped her nose against something. Today, her nose was dully throbbing because she hit her nose against a pillow yesterday. A very, very soft pillow and yet it hurt this much.
The man’s first-aid and medicines were really helpful.
It really wasn’t fair that he excelled at basic first aid too. It wasn’t fair that he looked so good. With black tattoos swirling over generously muscled arms and shoulder-length dark hair curling at the edges and gloriously tanned skin and hazel eyes with minute flecks of green and brown when taken a closer look at and dimples and—
A quiet “Who is it?” snapped Nesta out of her moping. She looked up to see Gwyn walking to her.
“Who is what?” she asked, feigning nonchalance. Gwyn's pursed lips and glare conveyed that her act wasn't enough.
“Who are you thinking about?” Gwyn clarified.
“What makes you think I'm thinking about someone?” Nesta retorted.
Gwyn sat on the chair next to her and started assisting with classifying the unceremonious heap of books on the table to be kept back in its correct positions on its own rack.
“Nesta,” Gwyn sighed, “Clotho assigned you this stack almost an hour ago. And you've barely finished a third of the stack. Normally, you'd finish stacks bigger than this in an hour. So there's clearly something.”
“It wasn't anyone,” Nesta mumbled.
As usual, Gwyn saw through her lie. “You were twirling your hair,” she said flatly.
Heat inched up her neck. “I was not!”
Gwyn murmured a “uh-huh” and they lapsed into an easy silence till they were almost over.
Gwyn's eyes lit up as it normally did whenever she got an idea. “Is it him? The guy you came with that day?”
Nesta scowled, “How do you know…” she broke off when she realised which 'that day' Gwyn was talking about. Nesta fought back a blush. “No, no, this isn't about him. We don't know each other. Much. Like, we've seen each other a number of times? That's it. Nothing else.” Cauldron, the first part was a complete lie. But at least the rest are true. Will Gwyn happen to know his name? Maybe I ought to ask her. Or maybe I shouldn't.
She should, she decided. She cleared her throat. “Uh, Gwyn? Do you happen to know his name?”
Gwyn frowned and asked, “He hasn't told you yet?”
Nesta shook her head and answered, “No, we, uh, forgot. I guess. We haven't really exchanged names.”
Gwyn nodded and smiled. “Well, he is—”
“Gwyn!” a voice called. “You can't expect me to come over to you and beg for you to help me. Help me only if you want to or don't work under me.”
Gwyn’s eyes widened. She abruptly stood up and mouthed, “Merrill. I gotta go. I’m so sorry.” She all but ran to Merrill, the very strict librarian Gwyn was working under.
Nesta sighed and continued her work. There wasn’t much left so she was able to finish fast. She picked her things and left the library with a word to Clotho, heading to the mall.
***
The best way to keep whatever problems one has out of their mind was to also eat something they liked. So, ice-cream it was. After having his ice-cream, Cassian was aimlessly walking around the mall. Here, not more than a month ago, he met her for the first time. Almost a month ago. He huffed out a breath. The fact that he was pining for her this long blew his mind off. He—
“This is your fault— not mine. I’m not taking the blame for this,” he told her. They bumped into each other. Again.
Her lips quirked up. “It is kind of my fault. But blame this—,” she poked his chest, “— for making my nose hurt again.”
Just like that, his mood sobered. “How are you?” he asked.
She pointed at the cafe to her left. “Coffee?”
He nodded. Who was he to say no to her?
So they ordered coffee and talked about everything and nothing. He grinned and she laughed. He laughed and she smirked. He wouldn’t say he knew her well but he’d never seen her so carefree. Her laugh was like nectar for a starving man. Her eyes bright and welling up with tears from laughing.
“I don’t think I’ve laughed this much,” she said.
Cassian put a hand on his heart dramatically and said, “I know, I know. I’m very funny.”
Her lips kicked up a notch. She straightened as if she just realised something. He was about to ask when she drawled, “So I just realised that we still haven’t exchanged names.”
Oh. Right. Of course. “Yeah,” he nodded. “Usually, when people meet, they start with introductions but in our case we’ve literally bumped into each other three times and still we don’t know each other.” He shook his head and extended his hand. “Well, hello there. I’m—”
His phone rang in his pocket. Fuck. He was going to kill whoever was calling him now. He was so close to knowing her name. He pulled out his phone to see an incoming call from Azriel. He apologetically looked up at her and said, “I’m sorry. I wish I could choose not to take this call and instead kill this idiot but I can’t. Just give me a moment, okay?”
She nodded and he picked up his call.
“What do you want?” he hissed.
“It’s 5.30 already, you idiot. We’ve got to get the things ready for the party. Mor already went to get the cake and you’re not even at home. Where on all earth and hell are you?” came Az’s faint voice.
“15 minutes only? Mother above, I’m coming.” he said.
Az’s “make it fast” was the last thing he heard before hanging up. “I wish we could stay here and talk forever,” he said to her, “but I have something up in a short while and I totally didn’t realise time was passing this fast. I’m so sorry. It was nice talking to you. Really. And I wish we could meet again. Though without the bumping part.”
He grinned when she smiled and said, “Bye. Have a nice day.”
“You too,” he called back. He didn’t want to think he imagined the subtle look of disappointment on her face because hell, he was a walking epitome of disappointment right now.
THIS OMG I'M NOT OK
Alec wondered if that’s why so many leaders before him had been awful. It was easy to be a bad leader. But it took effort to be a good one.
MAX PLAYING THE ADOPTED CARD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
“Is it because you don’t like me?” Max pouted again. “Like my mom…Who left me all alone.”
“You can’t play the adopted card with me, you lil shit,” Rafael laughed. “I’m adopted too.”
I'M SO IN LOVE LEAVE ME ALONE
AWW MAX SEEING THE INSTITUTE AND IMMEDIATELY GOING "David would love this" ISTG THIS KID I LOVE HIM SO MUCH
“Weren’t you listening to a podcast on Mayan Civilization during breakfast?” Alec raised an eyebrow.
“Bapak said it’s historically accurate!” Rafe argued.
“Bapak is not that old!” Alec countered.
“Maybe he is,” Max said, analyzing the paintings on the walls. “Maybe you don’t know it.”
“Excuse me, I know how old my husband is,” Alec said indignantly.
“Then where are the receipts dad?” Max asked. “Show us the receipts!”
Where are the receipts, Alec? EXACTLY!
THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE HAS CAUGHT ON TO MAX'S VERY OBVIOUS CRUSH
“I think he likes David,” Rafe whispered.
“Of course he does,” Alec whispered back. Why were they whispering? “David is a sweet boy.”
“No. I think he ‘likes him’ likes him,” Rafael giggled.
Alec looked at his son sharply. “But-He is..Da..They are children!”
“You’ve never heard a childhood crush?” Rafe grinned.
“No, I was too busy…studying,” Alec sniffed.
“That’s not what I heard,” Rafael bit his lip. “I heard you had a thing for boys in motorcycle jackets.”
“Okay that’s it! You are not allowed to hang out at Hotel Dumort anymore,” Alec said.
Really Alec? Studying? REALLY???
MAX AND RAFE RACING TO THE TRAINING ROOM!!!
the reference to the infernal devices...I'M GONNA KILL THE ALREADY DEAD STARKWEATHERS! I'M ABOUT TO DO SOME NECROMANCY SHIT TO BRING THOSE FUCKERS BACK JUST TO KILL THEM SLOWLY
Hugs max it's gonna be ok buddy.
In that moment, Alec remembered all the talks.
He remembered how his mother had lectured Izzy about not going out alone late at night, but she hadn’t said anything to Jace or Alec.
He remembered the way Jem spoken quietly to Mina in soft Mandarin about how people might call her names, but he hadn’t said anything to Kit.
He remembered the way Julian had told Ty to be careful about kissing his boyfriend in public, but he hadn’t said anything to Dru.
I hate this so damn much. I hate it. It sucks how there will always be people who will be targeted for being born the way they are. Whether it be skin color, sexuality, body type, or anything, people will always fucking talk and make the world unsafe for certain people just because they aren't generic male cishets. If you're a girl you're in danger. If you're a POC you're in danger, If you're neurodivergent you're in danger. If you're a member of the LGBTQ community you're in danger. If you're disabled you're in danger. If you're part of any minority you're in danger. If you dare to be different you're in danger. Fuck people. I'm a queer POC female and it's scary. I don't want to be always checking my surroundings when I'm out. I shouldn't have to feel this scared walking out of my own house but I do and it sucks. Ok, I feel like I'm derailing from the main point here.
Sorry for that just got really heated for a second there.
NO NOT THE NIGHTMARE. BABY NO
DAVID MY CHILD!! OMG, HE'S GONNA TAKE UP ARCHERY SOMEONE HOLD ME WHILE I CRY!
“This is who you are,” David said, his voice oddly soft now. Softer than usual. “And you’re beautiful.”
Alec blinked at that.
“Blue,” David said quickly. “I meant you’re blue. Uh, yes.”
BESTIE I SAW WHAT YOU SAID THERE. WE ALL DID
Also, alec sitting outside max's room...IM GONNA-
“David is in there,” Alec whispered. “I just wanted to…check…if everything was okay.”
“Alexander, are you spying on our child?” Magnus demanded. “Without me???”
“What? No! I-”
“Move over!” Magnus sank down next to him. “What are they saying? Are they kissing?”
“WHAT? They are not kissing!” Alec said in alarm. “Wait. Are they???”
He couldn’t hear anything now. Alec panicked.
“I haven’t talk to the kids about kissing yet,” Magnus pointed out. “We can’t talk to Max without talking to Rafael first.”
“Wait. Is Rafael kissing people???”
“Rafael is not kissing people,” Rafael replied as he walked past them to the kitchen. “Also, you guys are shit at whispering.”
Alec rolled his eyes at him and turned to Magnus. “It’s stressful enough that we need to talk about racism in the shadow world. Now we need to talk about kissing??”
“And other stuff,” Magnus chuckled.
Alec groaned into Magnus’ shoulder. “By the angel. Fine. We’ll just tell them there is no kissing. Until they are 30.”
“Hypocrite,” Rafael coughed into his hand as he walked back to the table with a bag of chips.
THIS WHOLE SCENE OH MY GOD.
And srsly alec? 30? really? whips out the extract "kissed" from cassie's website According to my files here-
“And David?”
“Yes, sir?”
“The bedroom door stays open from now on.”
David blinked, his cheeks pink. “I…What?”
“Door stays open,” Alec said, lowering his voice, just a register. “Is that understood?”
AYY ALEC DAD MODE YUCDUHDFHFUHJIUHC THIS IS SO AMAZING IM GONNA SCREAM
Alec advising David with the bow is so close to my heart...IDK WHY IT JUST IS
That conversation...PEOPLE FUCKING SUCK I HOPE HUMANS GO EXTINCT BECAUSE I SURE AM READY TO DIE SO LET'S TAKE THE EARTH DOWN-
“Why don’t shadowhunters have acne?”
"What?" Alec blinked.
“Their skin is like so freaking perfect and smooth and they can just freaking go through puberty without a one freaking pimple and don’t even get me started on the freaking dimples and then-”
Magnus started laughing. Alec felt a little confused.
EXACTLY MY THOUGHTS !!!!! THAT DAMN ANGEL BLOOD
That part about how we normalize these little things which are actually hurtful...I didn't realize that. I guess we really do, huh? This just made me want to be more careful with others and if I feel others do this with me, to stop them and correct them.
I loved this chapter so much. You're such a great writer.
I wanted to share something of my own now!! I FINALLY GOT MY COPY FOR RWARB!!!! I told my parents it was a thriller about how the first son and the prince forge a friendship and discover secrets about the government and the monarchy-
The place I bought it from sent me a very cute bookmark. It's a pride bookmark and it's just my first ever pride merch and I'm close to tears. Let's just say my family isn't the most accepting so this bookmark's really precious to me
finding what is familiar
julian devorak x reader
the guy who believes magic is logical has convinced himself that he can help you find your familiar....
warnings: none... hurt/comfort. definitely fluff.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“if you're looking for your familiar, then this—" he waved his arms out at the heights of the gargantious architecture that was the colesium. "would be the place to look."
on one of the days julian would sit while you and asra would practice magic during one of your little 'pow wows' as julian referred to it, he asked why you didn't have a pet like asra did.
when asra told him that faust was not a pet, but a familiar. julian outright laughed and shook his head. explaining that there wasn't no way that a person and an animal could have a connection through magic. maybe a very close relationship, but never sharing emotions. especially through magic.
asra brought malak's interesting connection to julian up and the doctor shook his head, claiming that he and malak were different. their relationship was special. he couldn't explain how, but it was.
you told him that finding your familiar takes time. that it in fact was a delicate process that should not be rushed and you might be well into your years before you would find your familiar. but julian was having none of that.
the man who insisted there was logic behind all magic wanted to help you find your famiiiar. you couldn't exactly say no to him. especially after you tried to tell him the ingredients for mazelinka's soup contained some magical properties. so you'd let him lead you here.
"hate to break it to you, julian, but..." you shrugged, as you let your gaze trail around the aging pillars before checking beneath a rock. "it's only a colesium."
"my dearest magician. the most amazing things are found in the most unexpected places!" julian grinned, letting his hands graze the walls of the battle arena.
you grinned, walking towards him, never meeting his eyes before giving him a doe eyed look, "Like.. you, for example?"
he flushed, sputtering out before you playfully rolled your eyes and followed your magic to the middle of the stadium. tugging a stray piece of rope and pulling up the trap door that revealed a dark hole with a ladder leading down into the abyss.
julian's devilish smile made you feel a tad more confident, but a little shaken that out of all places he wanted to search, down here was where he wanted to look with you. "You think my familiar is hiding out down there?"
"only one way to find out." he shrugged, slipping down the ladder for you to follow moments after.
beneath the old colesium, julian was right. a whole market beneath your feet with dim lights fluttering and vendors chattering, calling out to people as they passed by in the shady interior.
"breath-taking, isn't it?" julian asked as you eagerly nodded.
your eyes lit up as julian nudged you forward, looping your arm and guiding you through the black market.
you held julian's arm, eyeing the different things as vendors offered mysterious jars as you passed by. both you and julian would pick up a few ingredients as here and there, things new and things old, paying vendors for little things you wouldn't have to go looking for in far off places until julian had strayed.
he was prodding at a beautiful peacock. smiling as a child would at seeing such a wonderous creature right here in vesuvia. his gaze met yours and as soon as his attention was back on the caged bird it had latched his beak on his finger.
he shrieked and you were at his side in a second, trying to refrain from laughing for his sake, feeding the peacock so it would let go of julian's precious fingers.
he let out a shaky breath, nodding at the creature that swooned for the affectionate grooming you gave it's crest as it ate from your hand. "w-would this be your familiar?"
you shook your head, fingers tracing over julian's as you guided the shaken doctor from the vendor's stand.
julian's eyes leaving the bird's as he brought his finger up to his face to examine the appendage.
"it's supposed to be special." you smiled, staring up at julian as you glanced at some of the caged animals before turning your gaze to the far left to keep your gaze off of them. their distressed calls and scarred bodies was enough to make you feel nauseated.
julian noticed you lean into him and clutching his arm tighter upon the louder the animals got, pulling you into one of the sectioned walls so that you could have a moment to yourself.
it was when your hands came up to block your face from him when he shushed you and moved your fingers so he could see your teary eyes. he cupped your face and brought you close to him.
“i didn’t think bringing you down here would upset you.” he wiped at the tears at the corners of your eyes, loathing what started as a wonderous adventure had turned into you being overwhelmed by the true darkness of the black market’s underbelly. “we can look somewhere else-”
you quickly shook your head and wrapped your arms around his waist to bury your face in his chest. he pressed his lips to the top of your head, “i don’t.. i can’t imagine my familiar being down here.”
a crack of a whip and a cry had you flinching deeper into julian’s chest. anyone who had the audacity to maime an animal, let alone lay their hand on one, should be arrested. especially given how they were trafficked here and most definitely homesick.
“i don’t think they’re down here.” you muttered into his chest as he rubbed his hand up and down your back. “if they were down here, there would’ve been some kind of sign by now.”
“how?” julian asked, raising a brow. “don’t tell me it’s that person to familiar connection thing asra was—"
he shook his head upon seeing you smile, he couldn’t fight his own from coming upon seeing yours. “i’m supposed to know.”
“it doesn’t make sense.” julian shook his head, leaning back into the wall as you leaned into him. “some magic jumbo is going to help us find your pet.”
“it’s not a pet, julian.” you laughed as julian began guiding you through the vendors to again, well past the animals that you had once seen. “i was hoping to show you. i know it’s.. it’s...”
“farfetched?” julian raised a brow, but you playfully scowled at him and stuck your tongue to making him laughing turn.
“down beast!” a whip cracking again and a roar sounding throughout the market.
a ping of magic made you stop abruptly.
your eyes clouded over, pupils dialating as you stood stiff as a board. a light glow began to show on your skin.
julian gawked. he quickly grabbed your face, turning you so that you stared up into his. the white of your sclera shifting into blues and purples, stars seemingly dotted over your eyes.
“y/n!” julian gently tapped your cheek. “please, darling- say something!”
your eyes turned back to their normal color. before julian could even mention getting some serious medical help, you were grabbing his hand and tugging him into a run, pushing through a crowd that surrounded a particular corner of the markets.
eyes met yours from inside a cage. you wandered forward before julian could tug you back. the animal growled, snout curling to reveal jagged teeth.
with no hesitation whatsoever, you reached into the cage, cupping the animal’s large head before it relaxed. a glow outlined you oncemore as you stared so adoringly into golden eyes. your lips curled into a smile when the animal stepped toward you, the glow washing down the animal’s black stripes and down it’s tail.
it leaned it’s head on the bars and you mirrored the huge animal, feeling it’s fur brush against your skin.
“A tiger?!” julian gaped.
you grinned, scratching beneath it’s chin as a low rumbling came from it. the merchant standing slack-jawed a few feet away.
“how much?” you asked, only sparing the man a glance.
the magic radiating off of the two of you was too much, a crowd gathering behind julian who watched in awe.
the merchant was having none of it, magic and all, he was pissed off. “i’m not selling that tiger, he’s my golden goose!”
you leaned into the bars, lip jutted out and the tiger’s sad eyes seemed to catch on. a giant paw reaching between the paw reaching between he bars and landing on your arm. it let out an anguished moan trying to get you closer.
julian crossed his arms at the sight. “i’ll be..” he watched you lean into the cage, stroking your hands over the animal’s head while the tiger hummed sadly, it’s eyes set on you. “that’s their familiar!” julian piped up, pointing at the tiger that suddenly growled at him.
your hand on it’s snout made the tiger calm and watch the man with curious eyes. it’s head cocked as it questioned the lanky’s man purpose here.
“they’ve been searching for this animal their entire life!” julian set a hand on his chest, he cupped your cheek, “my dear, he won’t let you buy him.”
“i heard.” you sighed, leaning into the cage once more.
“then get out of here.” the merchant rudely pointed in the direction from whence you came.
the tiger growled at the man, feverishly glancing btween you and the fat merchant. tears filled your eyes and you shook your head, “i.. i can’t.” your hands were back in the cage, cupping the tiger’s head. “i can’t leave him. i’ll pay for him, i’m willing to pay for him.”
julian’s heart broke for you. he prayed to whoever was watching that his plan would work.
his hand wrapped around yours, “come on-”
“b-but.. love-” you gripped the bars, the tiger growling, letting out distressed cries as julian pulled you into him, “n-no...” you pressed your hands over your mouth as tears streamed down your face at the frantic tiger in front of you.
the man let his whip out and you rushed forward, “stop!”
before julian could grab you, you were grabbing the merchant’s arm. in one fluid motion, you were beneath the man on the ground. the sound of his skin hitting yours crueler than the whip that should’ve cracked instead.
you slid back towards julian who was fuming. before he could open his mouth to make a scene, a full-bodied roar sounded through the underground market. dirt from the roof over your heads. the tiger stalking left and right in it’s cage, murderous eyes set on the merchant when you called out to it.
“i’m okay.” you told it, hugging julian’s side. julian wiping a hand underneath the quickly forming bruise on your cheek. you placed your hand over his, meeting his worried gaze, “i’m okay.”
“they stop you from striking that poor, caged animal! So you hit them instead?!” julian scoffed, doing nothing to hide the venom in his tone. another glance at your face and there was blood leaking from an angry stroke of pink on your face. julian pulled away from you so all could see the wound.
“they were willing to pay for it!”
“yeah, let them pay for it!”
“that tiger clearly does better with them! let them have it!”
people surrounded you all when the man rolled his eyes and let his arms sit atop his bulbous stomach. “i’ll settle for five hundred.”
you opened your mouth to say something and julian angrily gestured to you, “you insult them! you berate them! you abuse them! and you expect them to pay your outragious price?!”
“you’re lucky i even opened a price range!” the man scowled.
the tiger growled from behind him, menacing gold eyes cut at him. it huffed, glaring down at the man, paw stretched with claws extended and grazing the few hairs on the man’s head.
“three hundred.”
julian raised a brow and crossed his arms, “a beggar wouldn’t even bat his eye toward this stand.”
“two hundred! i will go no lower than that.”
julian raised his arms to release the most ravenous wrath that any one eyed, pirate doctor could when you hurriedly yanked him toward you and set a hand over his mouth. “that’s good enough for me!”
the man begrudgingly took your money and as the crowd was caught up in the victory, no one took notice of you fiddling with the lock holding the tiger until a series of chuffs sounded through the cheers.
“a-ahh, my love? maybe that’s not a good idea-” people were yelling and screaming at the sight of the latch being unlocking. you grinned, standing back when the door came flying off. nearly missing you as it crashed into a bunch of caged animals. birds began chaotically slamming into each other, wings clipping heads while animals ranging from weasels to boars
julian grabbed you in all the chaos and pointed to your familiar that was charging straight towards the fat merchant who stared it head on, screaming as he stood perfectly still.
“stop!” you magic surged through the underground market making people stop to grab their bearings, all the animals finally clearing out when eyes fell on the tiger that was breaths away from the man standing perfectly still.
your familiar turned meeting your eyes, it’s face softened upon seeing you, silently asking if this one man was fair game. you shook your head and patted your thighs.
“come on.”
it growled at the man who fell onto his back, scrambling as if someone were after him.
your familiar was at your feet, letting out chuffs as it rubbed his head over your legs. your fingers buried in it’s soft fur as you leaned down to pull it into you.
julian gently pulled at your arm at the many eyes staring at you both. “we should really go now.”
all three of you set a brisk pace until you found yourselves in a forest. your familiar knocking you down and laying it’s body over yours with a hum, chuffing and rubbing it’s striped head over your chest.
julian shook his head, running a hand through his hair. he should’ve expected a magician of your status to have such a magnificent companion at your side.
you peeked up over the head of the tiger that laid on you, completely content to have you at it’s side. a smile directed at julian who found himself melting all over again. “thank you, julian.”
he smiled, sitting beside you with a smile of his own. “anything for you.”
OHSHC Rewrite: Episode 2
The Job of a High School Host!
Host Club x reader
Summary: Y/n learns the duties of a host.
Word Count: 4.9k
Episode Masterlist
Tumblr media
You've been a host for almost two weeks now. It's been interesting, to say the least. Tamaki and the twins have been trying to get you into a dress since you put on the school uniform, but you cleaned the male uniform and refused all their demands.
Maria got letters from your friends back in y/c, to which she wanted to surprise you by putting them in your bag. You didn't notice them at school, and you didn't notice them when they were sticking out during homeroom.
But Hikaru and Kaoru did. Once the class was over, the three envelopes fell out of your backpack, though you kept walking. They looked at each other and nodded. Hikaru them and went on and they both went on with their day.
After doing your homework you rushed into the club room, only to see very real tropical decorations everywhere. The hosts had luau outfits on as well. "Welcome."
"This is different." You stated as you stepped in, looking around.
"Of course!" Tamaki posed as he talked. "It might be early fall but here at the Host Club we'd like our guests to feel as if they're in a tropical paradise. And plus, our heating system is... perfect!"
You gave him a slight look at his bragging, to which Kyoya smiled a bit. "Do you have a problem with the way we run our club y/n? Remember, you still owe us 8 million yen."
You set your bag down on your spot. "Charming." You said sarcastically, passing by him and giving him a sly smile. "I feel very free to speak my mind, really. So was this tropical island thing your idea?"
"All ideas dealing with the host club events come directly from the king. Although I will admit to casually slipping a Bali pamphlet onto his desk." He kept his smile as he continued writing in his book.
"Of course. Well someone should tell the king that he's really clever." You patted his arm before going and sitting down with your clients. "Good afternoon ladies—"
The twins each blew a whistle and marched over to you. "Hold it right there!" They said in unison. "Who's Julian?!"
You turned over to them, a bit surprised at the mentioning of that name. "What do you mean?"
"Three envelopes fell out of your bag, and one was from a boy named Julian." Kaoru said.
They then got very close to you, asking, "So who's Julian?!"
"An old friend." You shrugged, putting out your hand for the letters. They gave them back to you, but also gained the attention of Tamaki.
"How good of a friend is he?" He zoomed right behind your couch.
You didn't know why Tamaki was so territorial of his friends, but you knew there must be a reason. That didn't mean you couldn't still have fun with him. You fake sighed lovingly. "He's the best."
"Is he... handsome?"
"He has an adorable face. I love it so much!"
"You love it?" You gave you his puppy dog eyes.
"Yup."
"Do you have... feelings... for him?"
"Oh, I'm only totally in love with him."
"WHA~T?!" He then wrapped you in a hug. "But you're my little girl~"
You sighed again. "Yeah. It's too bad you're more his type."
"Huh?"
He blankly stared at you, and you bursted into a fit of giggles. "He's gay, so calm down."
"Oh." He then stood up and cleared his throat. "Well then, that's one less man to worry about. You don't know how many evil boys there are in the world, so you have to be careful."
"Yeah, I should also be careful of weird people who call themselves 'daddy'." An arrow struck through Tamaki as you walked over to the twins. "Thanks for holding onto these for me." Your smile made them blush. "And thank you for not opening them, since you guys are pretty nosey."
"We don't know what you're talking about." They both said as they shrugged.
"But y/n," Kaoru started saying.
"Why don't you open them for us?" Hikaru finished.
You scoffed. "Please guys, I'm working." You then turned to your clients as they sighed, smiling. "I'm sorry girls. What did you want to talk about?"
"Well, we were wondering if you were going to dress up in something tropical."
"Do you all want me to?" You asked, unsure if you wanted to go through with that.
"Yes!" They said happily.
Tamaki then appeared with a smile. "I already made you an outfit y/n. And look, we're a pair! Isn't it cute?"
You frowned. "You know I don't really like skirts."
He then showed you his big watery eyes. "But Kyoya gave you a dress and you accepted it no problem."
"He was doing it to be nice. You're doing this because you want to see me in a dress. That's weird."
He looked like he was going to burst from anger. He then pushed the outfit into your hands. "Just go change!"
You then changed into the shoulderless top with the long skirt, which also accompanied a lot of jewelry. You then went out and tried to discreetly go back to your clients. "Oh my goodness y/n, you're so cute!" One exclaimed.
"Y/N~" Tamaki jumped over to you and crushed you into a hug. "Everybody, look!"
"Let's not please." You whispered. Your face went red as you frustratedly looked to the ground.
"Wow." The twins said, grabbing your arms.
"Who knew y/n," Kaoru said.
"Could be such a girl." Hikaru finished.
"Looks cute." They said, giving you a thumbs up.
"Please stop drawing in more attention." You said quietly.
"Takashi~ look!" Honey dragged you over to them. "Doesn't she look adorable?"
"Yeah."
Tamaki and the twins had evil stars in their eyes as they inched closer to you. You didn't notice the blush on Mori's face when you went to go hide behind him. The three then shouted, "Give her to us!"
Mori shook his head and took your shoulders, guiding you to your couch.
"Thank you senpai." You said quietly. You then put your hands over your face. You peaked at your smiling clients. "Okay, I did this for you guys."
"How do you feel in cosplay?"
"Exhausted!" You put your hands to your side quickly only to begin shaking your arms, hearing the jewelry jingle as you moved. They began to giggle at your innocent and child-like movements. "Jeez, what's with this?"
"Y/n, you forgot your crown!" Tamaki stuck it out towards you as an offering.
You took a deep breath and drank some tea, not looking at him. "If it's worth more than me I'm not wearing it."
He gave you an angrily confused look. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I'm not putting something ridiculous and way too expensive on my head. I don't even feel comfortable in this. It feels like I'm lowering the value of it by just wearing it." Your tone was a sarcastic one, which caused smiles from around your area. Though it was a joke, you were only half-kidding.
"Excuse me." A girl came up to you and said. "I believe we're supposed to be switching hosts now."
"Oh, you must be my next appointment." You grinned, waving to her childishly even though she was right in front of you. "It's nice to meet you."
She then grabbed your chin and brought your face closer to hers. "I've just decided. You're going to be my new favorite host." This seemed to effect Tamaki.
Once the club finished everything, you walked over to go change until Kyoya stopped you. "Your words with Tamaki seemed to amuse some of the guests, and many of those guests have requested you."
"Cool. I guess my clownery is likable." You chuckled and nodded.
Clownery. What an odd made up word. He thought about what his clients told them about you. You spoke with slang, though it almost as if you didn't realize it. They said that they found it adorable. Your speech being adorable. It was an interesting thought, in its own way.
Once you put back on your uniform, Kyoya instructed you to make Tamaki some instant ramen. You did so and finished cleaning. Once you finished that you sat down and noticed that Tamaki was irritated.
"C'mon boss, quit eating that commoner's ramen and help plan the party." Kaoru said.
"What's up with him?" You asked.
"He's just upset with Lady Kanako choosing you." Kyoya said as he typed away on his laptop. "She's had the illness for a while now though, so I don't know why he's too surprised."
"What disease?"
"The host hopping disease." The twins said.
You giggled, grinning. "So he's jealous that I stole her from him."
"Shut up! I couldn't care less!" Tamaki yelled. "That's it, my patience has run out. It's time you started dressing like a girl!"
"That's really what's bothering you?"
"I just don't get it. How can you be so popular with the ladies when you yourself are a lady?!" He then went into his private chest, digging though it. "Now you listen to daddy. DADDY WANTS YOU TO GO BACK TO THE WAY YOU WERE AND KEEP WEARING SKIRTS!!"
He brought out a huge framed photo of you in a high and tight half pony tail, which contrasted your usually messy pony tail. You were wearing a cropped long sleeved dark gray shirt, with a black skirt and dark panty hose under.
"DON'T GO BLOWING UP MY PHOTOS WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST!!"
He hung it up on the wall and began crying. Everybody crowded around it.
"The more I look at this photo the more amazed I am." Kaoru said. "How did you go from that to wearing suits?"
Everyone turned to look at you. "I used to have a neighbor who owned a Burlesque lounge. Sometimes she needed someone to cover a waitress shift, and I would do it. This was the most covered up she would allow me to be though."
"I see." Kyoya said. "Those places are known for having women reveal a large amount of skin."
"I wore that stuff cause I had to. I feel more comfortable not showing my legs. I don't care if I dress like a dude sometimes."
"A GIRL SHOULD NEVER ADDRESS HERSELF AS A DUDE!!" Tamaki yelled. "MAMA~!! Y/n's using those dirty boy words again."
"I hate to break up this interesting conversation, but do you have any formal dancing experience?" Hikaru asked.
You turned and smiled nervously. "No, but I don't have to go to parties and stuff, right?"
Tamaki's eyes began to shine. "I absolutely forbid that. You must go to every event hosted by the host club if you want to pay back your debt! If you fail to do so, you'll be demoted back to errand boy" He then got a lot happier. "And that also means you have to wear a dress at the party!"
"No it's cool, I have a formal guy outfit." They all stared at you. "What? I got it when I had to go to a wedding."
"Why won't you wear something like thi~s?" Tamaki said with tears in his eyes.
"Cause it was for a job."
"This is a job!"
"No, this is indentured servitude. There's a difference. Slight, but it's there." You then briefly thought. "Oh, I guess that also means I have to learn the man's part since I'm a host."
Kanako was instructing you what to do, and you were getting the hang of it quickly. "You're quite a fast learner miss y/n."
"And you're quite an exceptional teacher Miss Kanako." Your gaze went to Tamaki, who looked sad. He wanted to teach you, but was too tall to be in the girl role. He glanced over to you, and you smiled and waved. He hesitantly gave you a small smile and waved back. Because of this you weren't paying attention tripped up the both of you. "I'm so sorry Lady Kanako!"
She pulled you closer. "That's quite alright."
"You're very forward." You smiled down at her before rolling to the side and pulling the both of you up. "C'mon, let's get you some tea."
You brought her tea as she happily held onto the cup. "You have a new order for tea sets I see. The handy work looks like it's Genorie."
"You have a keen eye mademoiselle." Kyoya said as he passed by.
"Such a pretty color." She gazed into the tea cup with a smile. "How lovely."
"Woah, you seem to know a lot about tea sets, huh?" You asked. This, unbeknownst to you, gained Tamaki's attention.
"What? Of course not!" She said shakily, blushing. "What ever would give you that idea?!"
Just then someone walked in with a box in hand. "You ordered a new tea set?" He asked Kyoya as he walked over to him.
"Yes we did. Y/n, come over and grab these." Kyoya said.
You nodded and smiled at him as he gave you the box. You opened the lid and looked at the set. "Wow, these are really nice. Are you an expert on things like this?"
Kanako began laughing. "Oh y/n, you're so out of the loop. It can be pardoned though." She turned back with a teasing smile. "After all, he doesn't look like an heir to a first class industry empire."
His facial expression changed as he looked at her. You noticed but decided not to say anything.
"The Susushima family has dealt mainly with table wear." Kyoya explained. "They are, in fact, a first class company."
"I think that's so awesome! You seem to have a lot of passion into what you're going to be doing, which is very admirable." You told him with a small smile.
He turned to you and bashfully smiled. "You think so? I'm honored. Well, see you all next time."
After he left and you walked back to Kanako with the box still in hand. "He's pretty handsome, don't you think?" You asked in your native language.
"Um, pardon?"
"Oh, sorry." You cleared your throat. "I'm asking if you think he's attractive."
She blushed profusely and nervously sipped on her tea. "I don't know! I suppose!"
"I get the feeling you two know each other."
She spat out her tea and began to panic again. "What would ever give you that silly conclusion? I have no idea what you're talking about! Anyways, take care!" She quickly left.
You stood up right before Honey jumped onto your back, almost knocking the box out of your hands. "Y/n-chan~! Guess what? They do know each other! Suzushima-chan is Kasuga-chan's fiance."
"Woah, really?"
"Kyoya," Tamaki said. "What do you know about this?"
He looked in his book. "They were childhood friends. Their parents set up an arranged marriage between them. I didn't find this information of any importance so I disregarded it."
"And what do you know of Suzushima?"
"Toro Suzushima. Outstanding grades, bare social status. Ordinary looking. He's reliable, in case of persuasion to place blame."
"He doesn't have much presence and is faint hearted." The twins said.
"In order words, he's boring." Kyoya closed his book.
"Wow," You said. "Who knew you guys were so cold to other men."
"We don't have any use of him so there's no reason to be nicer in describing him." Kyoya explained.
"Interesting philosophy." You said teasingly. "I can feel the kindness radiating off of you."
"Suzushima is a good boy." Honey said, on top of Mori. "Right?"
"Yeah." Mori replied.
"Alright men! It's time for a plan!" Tamaki announced. "It's our job at the Ouran Host Club to make every woman happy!"
When Tamaki finished explaining his plan, everybody packed up and left, leaving only Kyoya and you. He had just finished on his laptop and was packing up his things. You walked behind him. "Senpai, is it okay if I ask you a question?"
"Is it about what I said earlier?" He didn't turn around.
"Kind of. I mean, if we're talking about the same thing." You kept your voice steady and light.
"Was it what I said about not needing Suzushima?"
"Woah, no. Not at all. I was thinking about how you did a background check on him."
He paused briefly. "I see. What of it?"
Your voice unintentionally shrank. "Did you do one on me?"
"Yes. A few days ago, in fact. You fail to mention your brother when people ask about your history." His voice was so calm and normal. It made you feel very exposed.
"Everything I've said isn't a lie." You managed to say firmly.
"I know that as well. I understand your situation and I respect your reasonings for not talking about him. You've been through quite a lot, and you have a right to privacy."
"Please answer this next question honestly." His silence meant that he was still listening. "Do you think of me any lower or less, I don't know, appealing, now that you know everything about me?" You then nervously chuckled. "Unless it was already that low to begin with."
"I assure you that my views of you are of a hard working person who seems to make many people happy. Not wanting people to know certain things about you and having certain insecurities do not waver what I 'think' of you."
You let out a breath and grinned, hugging him from the back. He widened his eyes, but didn't tense nor pull away.
"Thank you Kyoya senpai. This really means a lot." You then let go of him. "Okay, I need to walk home before it gets dark. See you tomorrow." You then quickly went to the door. "Sorry if that hug was weird for you!" You called out as you left.
His opinions mattered to you. It was an interesting thought, in its own way.
As you were getting ready for the party, Maria came into your room. "Can't you be at least a bit girly?"
"Funny, that's really funny Maria." You turned to face her and sat down. "You're quite the tomboy yourself sometimes."
"I'm serious y/n/n. You should try a little makeup. You'll look nice for all your friends. One of them is bound to fall for you." She said in an offering tone.
You chuckled and shook your head. "They're all just friends. And I shouldn't have to try to impress anybody."
She sighed, going over to your nightstand and opening a drawer. She took out a black box and opened it, revealing the earrings you got back after your father was imprisoned. "At least wear one of your mom's earrings. They all look cute on you."
You looked in the box. She loved to collect them. "I don't know, maybe."
She grabbed your cheeks and smushed them. "Think about it." You grabbed her cheeks and did the same. "I also have something to tell you."
"Good or bad?"
She hesitated before quickly saying, "My sisters are coming for a few days to visit." And then sped walked out of the room.
"What?!" You followed her. "Please tell me Linda's son won't be coming too." She gave you a look, and that was all you needed to know. "Oh my gosh, I'm going to my club. That's gonna be my safe space for now."
"At least you have a safe space. I'll have to deal with Linda 24/7."
You then went back into your room and hesitantly grabbed a pair of earrings, putting them in your pants pocket. "I gotta go. I should start walking now."
She stopped you. "Take off the blazer at least." You took off the blazer with a pout. She then pulled off your messy ponytail. "Do something better with your hair too." You tied up two messy double buns. "There. You look adorable. Go."
You got there and joined all except Tamaki at the second floor in the auditorium. "Welcome, my little lambs," Tamaki said from the third floor. "To a magical night of your lives!"
Kyoya then spoke up. "As always ladies we are here for your enjoyment. Dance to your heart's content. The best dancer will be decided among us hosts and will be crowned queen. As a reward the queen will receive a passionate kiss on the cheek from our king, Tamaki Suoh. Good luck to all you."
They all began cheering, and you snickered over the stupidity of the 'prize'. The twins came over to you and began playing with your buns.
"These are cute." Hikaru said.
"You have a raggedy yet carefree look. The hairstyle compliments you." Kaoru told you. "Hey, have you ever been to a party before?"
"Not formal parties. Only block parties on my street."
"Well, since you're here y/n, you might as well enjoy yourself." Kyoya said. "We have quite the spread of desserts."
You then innocently asked, "Like squishy ice cream?"
"SQUI—"
"—SHY—"
"—ICE CREAM?!"
Tamaki flipped down to your floor and pointed to Kyoya, who was already dialing a number on his phone. "Kyoya! Order some squishy ice cream right away!"
"Two orders of mochi please." He said to his phone. The twins smothered you in a hug as your face burned from embarrassment. You felt like such an idiot foreigner right now.
In the meantime you danced with some girls, being flamboyant and silly when dancing with them. There was one girl who tripped over your shoes and almost fell until you caught her. She wouldn't stop laughing loudly, and it caused you to laugh as well. Others wanted to talk, so you danced regularly with them.
As you took a break from dancing with some girls Kanako approached you. "There you are y/n, I've been looking everywhere for you. May I have this next dance?"
"It would be my pleasure Lady Kanako." You began to dance with her. "You're so formal. It's really fascinating to me."
"Your expressions and slang are fascinating to me as well." She said.
"Kasuga-chan's here!" Honey announced.
"Honey, Mori," Tamaki said. "Commence with the operation."
Both nodded before swiftly grabbing you away and dashing to an empty room with the twins and Kyoya. "Did you guys really have to be so forceful?"
"Nevermind that, go and change." Hikaru shoved a bag into your hands and pushed you into the changing room.
"Remember y/n, we only have 37 minutes before the climax of the night," Kyoya said. "And a little accident might make the evening more interesting."
You saw a tube of concealer on the small table when you went in. You knew Kyoya left it for you, and it made you smile. You quickly changed into the dark purple dress and put concealer on the scars of your legs. You then remembered the earrings in your pocket and put them on. They were rose gold hoops with what looked like flower petals on them.
You then went outside, where the twins quickly put on your makeup. Kaoru then gently touched one of your earrings. "We didn't put these in the bag. Are these yours?"
"Yeah." You quietly said.
"They compliment the dress. It was good that you brought them." You smiled at him, causing him to blush and look away.
"Y'know," Hikaru said as they finished up. "I know the boss wants to stick to the strategy, but this is..."
"What are you all doing standing around here?" Tamaki asked as he came in. "The guests are wai—"
You stood up and faced him. You then began walking as the boys stared at you. "You look cute!" Honey stated.
Everyone blushed but Honey and Kyoya, who were both smiling. "My face feels heavy." You pouted as you kept walking.
"Hurry up!" The twins called out as you kept walking.
"Yeah, I got it." You muttered. As you left, the twins and Tamaki began to fawn over you.
You walked into the room they told you to. Suzushima turned around with a surprised look. You timidly smiled as you walked over to him. "You're not at all what I pictured from the letter you wrote me."
You kept your smile on. "Really?" He nodded. "Can I actually see the letter please?" He then gave it to you, and you read over it:
I'm in love love with you! From the first day I laid eyes on you I've been head over heals in love! Tee hee! All these feelings I have are harpooned to my heart as they keep whipping around my mind like the restless waves! When the special day comes, I want to randezvou with you on Noah's arc! I do I do!
You wondered who the hell would write such a stupid letter. It was actually a collaborative write with Kyoya and the twins. "Excuse me," Suzushima interrupted your thoughts. "Have we met before?"
"No! It's um, the first time we've ever talked!"
"I'm flattered by your letter, but I'm afraid I can't return your feelings." He said. "My heart has been taken by somebody else."
"My apologies! I didn't realize you had a girlfriend."
"No, she's not my girlfriend. I don't even think she's even interested anymore." He looked very sad.
"Well I don't know about that. Your calming presence is a joy to be around, and I'm sure she'd agree." You offered.
He sighed. "Thank you, but honestly, I'm sure she'd be better off with someone more self confident. That's why I'm leaving next month to study abroad. Hopefully become a better man for her. Maybe it's selfish, but I hope she'll wait for me."
"I won't lie to you, it's a little selfish." An arrow went through him. You squished your index finger and thumb. "Just a little. But Toro, if she really is the love of your life then I'm sure she'll still love you just as much as she probably already does."
He was about to say something as he reached out for you, but you heard the door open. You didn't turn so she wouldn't see your face. "Oh, I'm sorry to intrude." You could tell she was crying. "I'll just leave you two be."
You heard her heels and knew she was running away, and he ran after her. "Kanako, wait!"
You then walked next to Tamaki. "We didn't make things worse, did we?"
"He did run after her. He needs to learn how to be more sure of himself."
You were both walking back when you tripped again over your heels. Tamaki interlocked your arms together. You looked up at him. "You really need to learn how to walk in heels. They look so lovely on you, and it'd be a shame if you tripped and hurt yourself."
You smiled and nodded, leaning on his shoulder. You then tripped again, only for him to hold onto you and prevent you from falling. You giggled, followed shortly by Tamaki chuckling with you.
You both went over to the balcony. The lights hit, and you saw Kanako and Toro. "Let us join together and announce that this couple has been chosen for the final waltz of the night." Tamaki announced.
He said something to her, squeezing his eyes shut and asking her for a dance. You snickered. "Why are you laughing?" Kaoru asked.
"I know he's trying his best, but he looks kinda goofy right now." All the hosts looked from you to them and smiled. "They're awesome together though."
"May this awkward couple be forever blessed!" Tamaki exclaimed.
Kyoya then stepped forward. "And now for the grand prize, a kiss from our royalty."
"Y/n with step in for Tamaki." Kaoru said with a banana peel in his hand.
"And the kiss with be for Toro Suzushima." Hikaru added with another banana peel in his hand.
Tamaki was shocked, and you turned to Kyoya. "I'm not gonna—"
"It'll lower your debt by a third."
"I mean it is just a peck." You smiled and headed down.
"Wha..." Tamaki said.
"Also," You said as you began walking down the stairs. "You guys need to work on your love letter skills, because that was embarring for me to read."
As you went down Suzushima saw you and gave you a surprised expression. "You..."
"Y/n," Kanako said. "Were you the girl with Toro?"
"Hi guys. We just needed to give you two a gentle nudge. I promise I'm not in love with Toro. And I'm really sorry and embarrassed they gave you that stupid letter. I didn't write any of that." You smiled at them.
He nodded. "Thank you."
You then looked at Kanako. "May I?"
"Sure. It'll mark the beginning of our relationship."
Up from the balcony, Tamaki was reaching out for you weakly. "I wonder if this is y/n-chan's first kiss?" Honey thought out loud.
This made Tamaki snap, and he began running to you. "Wait y/n~!"
He slipped on the twins' banana peels and accidentally pushed you, causing you to kiss Toro on the lips instead. Kyoya did say that a little accident would make the night a little more interesting.
"Sometimes in my life I feel like a sorceress that can't totally control all their power and it's killing me"
Ok, I don't know how many will care about this, but I kinda wanted to write some things down about my apprentice so here we go ✨
(sorry for any mistakes in advance, English is not my first language ✊🏻💫)
Tumblr media
Audelia Emersyn
20 years old
she/her, born female
black hair
blue eyes, turn violet when she uses/controls magic, before she is able to fully control her magic abilities her eyes turn black which pretty much shows that she's almost killing herself if Asra wouldn't stop her
she is the daughter of a really powerful sorceress and a quite skilled magician which worked in the palace, putting her into the position of becoming equally strong as them, at least that's what she's telling herself
her parents had to leave Vesuvia one day, leaving her behind in the palace
loves elegant clothing but also wears baggy clothes when she is working or travels with Asra
before her death, she sometimes helped Julian in the palace while he was working on finding a cure to the plague
she knows about the little adventure™ that Julian and Asra had :')
she never told Asra, neither Julian
that was not her business
she pretty much didn't want to know if she was honest with herself
Asra and her got into a romantic relationship shortly after that. Afterwards Asra revived her and she lost her memories they eventually grew closer again but since Audelia and Julian started to see each other more often Asra decided to keep his feelings to himself in order for Audelia to be happy
speaking of Julian, the reason they get to see each other more often is because Audelia sometimes works in the tavern during night time, which he frequently visits
this way she is able to raise a bit a more money to afford things, even though it's quite stressful at times handling working in Asras shop during the day and in the tavern during the night
she gets along with Muriel quite well
Audelia is really close friends with Portia, before and after the young apprentice died, this didn't change, they pretty much got their relationship back to where it was
Portia got to know Audelia from the time where she was quite a known sorceress at the palace
Nadia (and formerly sometimes Lucio, but let's be honest only because Nadia said so) would rely on Audelias powers and knowledge to keep Vesuvia safe whenever there was an attack or a danger approaching, even though she wasn't able to fully control it and put her life at risk with this
she stayed and lived in the palace, after her parents were gone, but from time to time she would stay at Asras house until she moved in with him
after her memories vanished, Nadia never asked Audelia for help again, neither did she even try to contact her, since she was afraid that Audelia would eventually truly kill herself by being unable to control her magic even more than before
Audelia has no clue how she's ever able to learn how to control her magic powers and become a powerful sorceress like her mother was
the reason she didn't want to leave Vesuvia with Asra when the plague broke out was because she still hoped her parents would return one day and Audelia was afraid she wouldn't be there when the time would come
only a few people know about her sword fight abilities (Asra, Julian, Nadia)
one day, when the palace is under attack (fighting for who is ruling Vesuvia, u know) Nadia will ask Audelia to fight, which she will but at first only with her sword and a limited amount of magic
on that day she will get her memories back
she will also be able to wield her powers
but it's a long and hurtful way until then
Can you hold me?
So here’s another thing I wrote. The ending is probably not that great because I was struggling on how to end it for like a whole day so it is what it is. I tried describing a panic/anxiety attack, but I honestly didn’t realize how hard that would be. Also the title totally isn’t the song that was playing when I stopped writing it actually totally is.
Pairing: Asra x MC
Word count: 1146
Warnings: Anxiety/panic attack. I think that’s the only thing.
Tumblr media
    I had begun pacing not long ago, books blurring in my peripheral as I moved passed them. I was growing frustrated with my mind again, frustrated with my lost memories. It was a passing comment made by one of the servants, something about their family, that caused my mind to start racing. There were days it was easy for me to just go about everything as if I wasn’t missing years of my past, and then there were days where I couldn’t stop my mind from wandering and contemplating what my life could have been like before I woke up three years ago. I had kept my mind together fairly easily so far, taking my time to go through Julian's old desk or reading one of the many books that called to me, simple things to keep my mind busy. Those things just didn’t seem to be working anymore though.
   I moved to the large windows that overlooked the palace gardens, taking in the midday sun that reflected off of the many plants. As I gazed outwards my mind wandered to Asra, wondering where he had traveled to this time, what adventures he was going on and if he was safe. I missed him, but I could never bring myself to be angry with him for traveling when he has done so much for me. A heavy sigh escaped my lips as I ran a hand down my face as I sat myself on the plush cushions below the window. Perhaps I should just go and talk with Nadia, tell her I haven’t found anything of use I the old desk and that no matter how many times I’ve searched the stacks nothing new was discovered. How long have I been locked away in here?  It couldn’t have been more than a day, although the library was fairly dark depending on where I was so I haven't always had the suns position the help keep track. Has anyone realized that I wasn’t in my chambers or even wandering around the castle? Did they know where I was?
  I hadn’t realized my breath suddenly become faster, or that it had become shallow and prevented the needed oxygen from reaching my lungs. My fingers grew numb and were trembling, the walls felt like they were closing in around me pressing into me. My magic flared around me causing frost to coat my  surroundings, and the tears that flowed down my cheeks seemed to freeze in place. I tried wiping them away, rubbing harshly at my cheeks, hoping to clear the evidence of my breakdown away. I wanted Asra here, I wanted him to hold me close and tell me things would be alright but that wouldn’t be happening this time. I could feel my chest get tighter as the panic surged through me, sobs now falling freely past my lips as I couldn’t hold it back any longer.
  “(y/n).” Gentle hands held my face, guiding it upwards, violet eyes meeting mine. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts and feelings that I hadn’t heard him enter the library nor had I heard him approach. He was talking to me, mouth moving but I couldn’t focus enough to register what was being said. Faust moved on his shoulders, poking her head out of his scarf to look at me.
    “Friend.”
  “(y/n), you’re okay. I need you to breath with me.” Asra took one of my hands and placed it on his chest, just above his heart, to help focus my breathing. The rise and fall of his breath was soothing but everything around me was still fuzzy and cold keeping my attention from being fully placed on him. My panic filled eyes met his again, silently asking him to help me, do something else to distract me. His arms slowly made their way around me, giving me the chance to pull away if it was too much, and locking securely around my waist. I pressed my face into his neck and hugged his middle, taking everything in about him that I've missed in his absence.
  The minutes ticked on as we both sat on the cushions, my breathing slowly beginning to steady allowing my mind to calm. Asra’s voice was steady and low in my ear, regaling tales of his adventures and all the things he had come across. I swallowed thickly and removed my face from its hiding spot in his neck, keeping my eyes glued to the shelves behind him. “I’m sorry.”
  “You don’t need to be sorry.” He murmured hands ghosting down my arms to take my hands in his, intertwining our fingers. “When Nadia sent word to me that you hadn’t been seen in a few days I got so worried.”
  The frost around us had finally melted away, warming the air around us and Faust had poked her head back out of the confines of Asra’s clothing.
  ‘Okay?’
  “I’m okay now.” I smiled watching her slither down from her perch and come to rest on my lap. I gently pet her, fingers trailing along the smooth scales of her body making her release a happy hiss. Asra had remained silent during our interaction, eyes glued to my face unsure if I was actually alright. “I am sorry though, I should have told Nadia I needed to go back to the shop for a few days or something but I just..I couldn’t bring myself to go to her.”
  “You’re okay now (y/n), that's all that matters right now. I need  you need to take care of  yourself before anything else. I don’t want you putting this investigation above your health, I can’t lo-” He cut himself off then releasing one of my hands to run his through his hair, eyes flickering between me and the surrounding area. He took a deep breath before continuing, “Just be careful okay?”
  I reached out, placing my hand gently on his face giving him what comfort I could. His eyes fell shut as he leaned into my palm and I couldn’t stop myself from running the fingers of my other hand through his hair. I couldn’t help but find the humor in our roles being  switched as I began humming a song I always caught him singing under his breath as he worked in the shop.
  “You shouldn’t be the one comforting me, yet here we are.” He teased causing a blush to spread over my cheeks.
  “Fine I’ll comfort Faust then.” Picking up the snake I cuddled her to my chest turning my body away from him trying to hide my smile.
  “Hey now I didn’t mean that I didn't like it.”  He scrambled closer to me and pulling me back into his chest, arms wrapped tightly around me. I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped that only increased when Asra joined in.
