I know a lot of people were sad that Yaz just walked away and there was no kiss etc but I think it was fundamentally a good ending for them and for Yaz.

The Doctor has learnt from experience that they will keep on going in whatever form (the timeless child story has made that even more underlined) but unfortunately, their human companions cannot. In terms of romance, 10 learnt the hard way with Rose. 11 learnt what it was like to loose family in Amy and Rory and 12 lost a soul mate in Clara. In twelves case he lost her despite how desperately he tried to cling onto her, going to the absolute extremes.

13 has shown that she has learnt those lessons. She has clearly learnt not to cling onto those relationships, as demonstrated by the exits of Ryan, Graham and Dan. In Yaz's case, she had fallen for her companion and knows the feelings were reciprocated. In fact, she even subtly admitted to those feelings in Legends of the Sea Devils. However, having learnt the lessons of the past, she asked Yaz to go on as they were and not make that step into a romantic relationship.

Yaz could do nothing but agree to this, but it was clear in the Legend of the Sea Devils that she still didn't 100% understand why. This is were Yaz meeting Ace and Tegen was important to what was to come. The Doctor evolves and regenerates, and perhaps more quickly than Yaz had realised. In Ace and Tegan you have two former companions, with an age difference but not a vast one, who clearly know the Doctor as different regenerations. Having Ace there highlights it quicker because she of course refers to the Doctor as 'Professor'. Yaz already knows the Doctor was a Scotsman in the last regeneration.

The key line was when Yaz said 'where is my Doctor?'. Not THE Doctor. Not THE REAL DOCTOR. My Doctor. Going through a regeneration with the Doctor is hard enough for a companion even when they are just the Doctor's friend. Yaz doesn't feel like that about the Doctor, she is in love with her. She is in love with her mannerisms and her personality. No doubt, she is also physically attracted to her too. It's not just as simple as getting used to a new character to go off galavanting with. Yaz tried to save the woman she loved but despite everything she failed. She saved the Doctor, but not her Doctor. It was poignant that Yaz, having seen regeneration energy before (and now a forced regeneration), was the first to realise what was going on. Instead of panic or histrionics there was just a sad realisation that it was over.

The Doctor knows this and feels for Yaz in return. Imagine regenerating and looking at the person you have come to love, only for them to look back at you like you are a stranger? The Doctor knows that everything has its time and place. Yaz has been with her since she first regenerated until her final moments. She is Yaz's Doctor, but Yaz has been her consistent companion. It made sense for her to go onto her next journey alone and it made sense for Yaz to step away and remember her as 13, but in the knowledge that the Doctor is safe and will go on. The Doctor singled out the fact that she had loved her time with Yaz in their final quite moments together. In the end, it was all very mature from both of them.

Now, if you are a Yaz fan, take heart. There is rumour abound that RTD would like to make an extended Doctor Who world (mini marvel style). If this was to happen, expect to see a revival of Torchwood and its very feasible that an Agents of Sheild style UNIT series will be considered. What did Kate say in the support group? She might try and recruit them! It's very possible that we may see Yaz again and other companions. We may even see an old Doctor or two...

Hello! I love reading your posts, it makes me so happy to see that there are people that still love these two❤️ I appreciate all that you have done to keep the fandom alive!

That being said, because I wasn't involved with the fandom when I first watched the show, about 13 lol, I am pretty out of depth with how popular certain aspects of the show are to the general audience of Doctor Who.

Me being in my little bubble, I always assumed that all the RTD companions were really beloved, especially Rose Tyler. However after going out of my way to now seek out fan content, as an adult, it seems that there's way more dislike for her than I thought. Is she genuinely well liked amongst the majority? I thought that most fans really connected with the tragic love plotline they had?

The reason I ask is because I am fairly certain (a crack theory I've been making up in head) that more than ever there's a chance that we'll get some insight on how Tentoo and Rose are doing in the alt world but I'm afraid I might be getting my hopes up for nothing if they're not as popular as I thought they were. hi! aw thank 🙈💗 honestly i just made this sideblog to ramble so i wouldn't annoy my followers on main (even though i was originally a dw blog there) and had been out of the fandom for about seven years before october; so i'm rediscovering it too!

i have noticed a lot of differences in the fandom from when i originally watched dw when i was in high school to now. when i watched it was 2012, so ten's era was still really recent and tumblr was much more active, especially in terms of doctor who.

back then, tenrose was everywhere because that part of the fandom was still the majority, but there was a lot of tension because of the direc moffat was taking the show. i remember there was sooo much excitement about even the possibility of david and billie being in the 50th, then it was announced and we all thought we would see tentoorose or at least s2 tenrose; then it ended up not being that at all. this resulted in the fandom feeling disappointed and used for views on top of the fact that a lot of people did not like moffat's characterization of ten and his decision to bring gallifrey back. it was a lot of things, but i think the 50th really created a split in the fandom that we have never fully recovered from. from then on, a lot of rtd era people de-activated tumblr and moved on to other things, including me for a while, because the fandom was so so so tense on both sides.

tenrose is absolutely still a very popular ship, rose is still a beloved companion by many, but it's not 2012 anymore. there are people who ship the doctor and river, the doctor and clara, the doctor and yaz, etc. so there is less unification i guess? and sometimes this leads to people hating on rose because some think they can elevate their ship by minimizing what rose meant to the doctor, which is bs because the doctor is allowed to love multiple people over the course of their insanely long life!

it's not that people don't like tenrose, it's just that there are people who prefer other eras and relationships now and the people who love tenrose aren't active much. but man, the SECOND thirteen regenerated into david ALLLL the tenrose girlies came out lol and i fully expect that to happen again in november. i mean, a lot of people hate ten as well, but that's because he is so popular and i think that applies to rose too. it's a sort of resentment sometimes imo. not always, but a lot of the time. dw is just a massive fandom and with things this long running there is never gonna be one specific consensus to cater to, and rtd always firsty caters to the story.

that all said, rtd is absolutely gonna bring them back even if it's not in the 60th. he always planned to, and planned to make the tardis coral scene canon somehow, so when i saw he was showrunner i was like "it's time!" lol and he has liked a TON of instagram comments about them and rose and bringing them back, including mine 😇🥰

okay so i’m still scribbling down ideas and i’m kinda stoned and idk if i’ll ever manage to write this cos i have never rlly written anything like this (literally anything i’ve never written for one of these fandoms i’ve never finished a multi chap plotted fic i’ve never written an in-depth au like idk if i even could do this) but the other day my brain decided WOULDN’T IT BE COOL if Kingsman and UNIT were the same people. (and honestly MIB: International a bit too) but like. Kingsman Doctor Who AU. that’s mostly focused on osgate.

for whatever reason, the code name Arthur isn’t used and is instead replaced with The Doctor. why, idk. there doesn’t need to be a reason. just, when the doctor, the brig, and liz shaw all started this, he decided his code name was The Doctor and it’s been that way since

also the plot was: three different stories, spanning a couple different time periods.

first story (kingsman: the secret service) is very much just stolen ideas from what i know of the Cyber-Reality Big Finish stories. which admittedly about 80% of that (i did start listening to them. finally) is because of @technicallywrite’s fanfic 🫡 but i promise i am doing my research. but anyway like that cyber program instead of valentine’s program??? osgood thinking kate’s dead for like half the story adds some fun to it and i could add kate’s pov w whatever’s happening to her OR i could just. go off from Kingsman and do it closer to Big Finish and just call it good.

considering replacing jakobi!master w gomez!master for some extra fun? like it just could be fun is all.

also was thinking abt the possibility of: sarah jane is the lancelot being replaced. i don’t wanna kill her either but. it adds some fun messy stuff for kate cos i am always a sarah jane/kate truther but also establishing it all could be messy

also was considering just having sarah jane have been a past agent that kate’s father knew (will get into family history in a sec) and kate got to occasionally hear some stories about her OR sarah jane is kate’s aunt (basically they knew each other but sarah jane is gone now and kate struggles with that a bit)

cos kate’s dad was obviously part of Kingsman which is how Kate got recruited- sorta. (here is why i want sarah jane to be. important and not related to kate but i can’t change some of it) cos she technically still had to be recruited but sarah jane kept an eye on kate while she was in military training and actually recruited her having not realised who she was until after she had already decided

which is about to be what happens here cos. osgood is a rlly fucking good hacker and they can hack into p much any database okay so kingsman has been keeping an eye on them- not cos they’re worried that osgood will reveal them, just cos they kinda think she’s brilliant- and kate actually ends up running into them at a bar. where idk what but some kinda relatively easy to defeat alien shows up right and kate has to get rid of it and suddenly there’s a lot going on but kate is asking osgood to come to kingsman with her

and basically what osgood had been doing is kinda like. non-violent the beekeeper type shit like hacking elon musk’s bank account to send a billion dollars to palestine or some shit like just trying to improve the world in whatever ways right

and then osgood’s ends up joining kingsman (sorry but skip the ‘roxy beats eggsy’ plot line cos even tho i love roxy i don’t have time to figure out how to fit weird sexism into this especially cos not one man has actually been a part of this story yet) and proceeds to get sucked into the Cyber-Reality storyline

lowkey tho a) i need to learn how to write smut because i need them to hook up at least once probably pre-cyber like. anything. like they r attracted to each other. maybe that’s how kate learns about them in the first place is they hook up and osgood tells kate what they do with their life and kate decides to look into her work

(just occurred to me this may not be obvious but she/they osgood. possibly they/then doctor too cos i like fucking around w characters’ pronouns)

but anyway yeah i actually lowkey want the story to end with them not quite having figured themselves out but knowing they’re gonna do it together (😏)

hi everybody i'm feeling soooo unhinged right now thinking about parallels between rose and yaz and like. i think i'm onto something. tl;dr is thasmin would be a different ship if the doctor had never met rose

we know rose and yaz are similar characters. they're definitely distinct individuals, but they're both 19 when they meet the doctor, bored with their lives, instantly mesmerized by this weird alien, etc etc etc. each of them has two seasons to travel with the doctor, establish themselves as characters, and become more and more capable within the doctor's world.

but then we have doomsday for rose and village of the angels for yaz. these episodes serve the same purpose, from a character perspective. in both of them, the companion (rose or yaz) is separated from the doctor with no clear way back. they then spend the next few years (their early 20's!!!) separated from and desperately searching for the doctor. the difference is just in the pacing-- we see more of rose in the moments immediately after, and then rose actually disappears from the show for a season, while yaz is back with the doctor an episode later. otherwise, the same thing happens to them.

but like. okay. here's the thing. we saw how devastating losing rose was for ten. AND ten lost rose in part because their hubris in tooth and claw led to torchwood being created. the one time he lets himself genuinely enjoy himself with someone else, he is punished horrifically for it. add that to the fact that he only traveled with rose for, like, two years, and the rapturous joy of that time was immediately shadowed by a deep grief, well.

surely this is part of why thirteen can't let herself get close to yaz.

and it's just really getting me that thasmin and doctorrose have so many parallels, and the doctor's relationship to yaz is different in part BECAUSE of her relationship to rose! like! last time she got close to a human in the same way as she's close to yaz, her hubris led to her losing her friend forever. in addition to all the people she's lost SINCE then (especially bill, who she lost like 24 hours before meeting yaz). so she can't open herself up.

and like... the doctor with rose couldn't say he loved her, but it was undeniable looking at him with her that they were in love. but thirteen with yaz is totally different. she's so repressed that she won't even get too close to yaz, physically speaking. but like! if the doctor had never met rose, thasmin would be totally different. so in addition to sabotaging his relationship with rose with his hubris, ten sabotaged literally every similar relationship he would have in the future.

and like... honestly i know i can get a little off the rails about rose but i have to assume this is on purpose. like, rose's character and relationship with the doctor influenced the rest of new who, and she's definitely the model for a companion like yaz. and i love the idea of chibnall taking that model and taking into account how a new relationship built on that model would be different. i hope the show acknowledges some of this when thirteen actually talks to yaz, and like... considering the things i didn't think they'd acknowledge that they did acknowledge... and considering jack mentioned rose (and then had a whole conversation with yaz about traveling with the doctor)... i don't know. i think they might talk about this.

tl;dr rose and yaz have similar arcs and i think that's why thirteen can't get close to yaz

I've had this idea for a while now and that's all I cant think about till we see the canonical episodes.

so 13. I think it's kinda obvious that she is very sad very tired (and might even be brave to mention depressed) and very angry. she pushes everyone away especially yaz and I have this strong feeling that she KNOWS about yaz's feelings towards her (the romantical ones). and it's not that she doesn't feel anything back (you can totally fanon anything just like I do) but she doesn't allow herself to feel anything towards her anyways. bc clara died, bc river died, bc rose is in another universe.

she is so close to 12th doctor it actually pains to see her being like that. 12 started the same way: so un-open so un-vulnerable to other people but he had clara he became such a different person and I LOVED to see that and I wish I could see 13 going the same route. but she's never gonna be like that. or at least they'll have to change her character in the last 3 eps.

my worst take on her is this one:

so imagine dan leaves and there's only yaz. so imagine 13 going this "is it not enough for you that I show you all these miracles" again. so imagine IMAGINE yaz finally snapping about this fibally saying something like "I know you know what I feel for you and It's not that I'm sad about you not feeling same or breaking my heart it's about how you break it how you don't want to even try to open up".

so imagine yaz leaving the doctor after all of this.

so imagine 13 being finally alone.

I really wish to never see this but can you imagine the doctor just being done? being done and tired and so mad at herself for hurting people? being mad so much that she just says "screw it" and regenerates? not bc she was hurt (physically) but just bc it's too much?

what about rtd era makes it your least favorite?

This is about to be very negative on RTD’s era so I wanna put a PSA at the beginning to say that I do really love his era. Like, just imagine every point begins with ‘I love this thing/person but...’

1. Nine and Ten are my least favourite NuWho Doctors. With Nine, that’s really not his fault. It’s just that he only has 13 episodes so I’m drawn to the Doctors that just have more. With Ten, he’s the only NuWho Doctor that genuinely annoys me sometimes, and not because of anything he really does (other than his Time Lord Victorious thing, that winds me up), more like the way DT plays him and some of the mannerisms he has and the way he talks.

2. Series 2 is my least favourite. If you were like hey, you can never watch one series of Doctor Who ever again I’d throw out Series 2 in a heartbeat.

3. Ten and Rose are my least favourite Doctor/Companion romance because they just aren’t what I imagine when I think of the Doctor being in a relationship with or fancying someone. I much prefer Clara and Twelve where it’s so obvious feelings are there but it doesn’t have to be said. Also Ten and Rose’s weird giggly thing is annoying and just kinda rude sometimes.

4. There’re more episodes in RTD’s era that I dread getting to on a rewatch than any of the other era. There’s a couple of episodes in Moffat’s era that I get to and am like god, I cba with this. And there’s only one in Chibnall’s era.

5. Rose is (probably) my least favourite companion. When she acts all Doctor-y it makes me cringe like crazy. I know I giffed that moment in Doomsday where she is like ‘I beat the emperor of the Daleks’ but it makes me cringe to death in non gif format. And she treated Mickey like shiiit.

6. When Ten isn’t being a lovesick dumbass, his relationship with Martha is great but when he is being a lovesick dumbass, I want to strangle him. And this isn’t really RTD era related but I think that moment in a Thirteenth Doctor comic where she meets Martha and is like ‘How didn’t I see that she fancied me?’ is a load of shit. Ten 100% knew how Martha felt, he was just too busy feeling sorry for himself to care.

7. I’ve known the stories in this era for 10+ years at this point and am just way more into Moffat and Chibnall’s eras because I’ve watched them a lot less and they’re ‘more current’.

8. I’m more attached to and invested in the characters and relationships in other eras - Missy, Clara, Eleven, Thirteen, Clara/Twelve, Yaz/Thirteen, River/Eleven, Ryan/Thirteen. 

9. Every era has a different vibe and I love the RTD Era vibe, it just happens to be my least favourite.

The good things outweigh the bad things in every era for me. Like, even though I just listed a load of reasons RTD’s era is ‘bad’, I still love it way more than I don’t love it. I just think the good outweighs the bad more in Moffat and Chibnall’s eras than it does in RTD’s era. And it is way easier for me to come up with reasons that I ‘don’t like’ RTD’s era than it is for the other two.

I was gonna disagree on yaz being a blank slate but then I had the epiphany that you're absolutely right and the reasons I like her are all fannon not cannon (the mental health fannon crossed over to cannon but it got one episode and was sorta vague handwavy mental health rep so as far as rep goes it was kinda meh to be frank). But I do love how fandom has developed the character into one I love. Just more incentive to ignore cannon I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m very happy you came to this conclusion too, but let me clarify that it is completely fine to disagree with me. I can see the appeal of Yaz and it wasn’t completely fair of me to describe her as a blank slate. She has some interesting characteristics... I just don’t think she’s being well handled in the series.

The problem with the way she is written is her lack of flaws, I think. Thinking back at a lot of companions, they all have some kind of flaws:

Clara was too reckless, Bill was somehow naive and trusted people too quickly, Amy was indecisive and aggressive, Donna was bossy and sometimes rude because she was deeply insecure, Martha had to learn to stand for herself and take her life into her own hands, Rose was...not very nice to Mickey altogether...

Yaz is absolutely perfect, she has only positive characteristics, and with this I don't mean she needs to be wrong or bad to be interesting, that's not what flaws are for. They are to determine how characters react in certain circumstances. They are important tools for a screenwriters, and I think screenwriters for these seasons had a hard time placing and interpreting Yaz, because, as far as canon goes, Yaz has no evident flaws to work with.

Example:

We all know that if the doctor told Donna to “Shut up!” she will have a completely different reaction from Martha, or Rose.

The question is...what would be Yaz reaction be?

Honestly, I don't know, because I don't feel like the canon gave me enough material to decide it. I could completely made it up, and justify it with my own personal headcanon, and let me highlight this point: Is fine to do it! Please, DO IT! It's what's fanon is for.

I mean, there are a lot of instances in the series to develop and analyze what one of her flaws could be.

Firstly, she is a cop, she could be particularly strict about rules and laws to an unhealthy point. Something like Clara, who was the opposite and “absorbed” the reckless and unruly side of the Doctor, Yaz could absorb the strict and unyielding side, the ones that believes in the laws of time.

She got bullied as a kid. She is not particularly sociable and that is highlighted by the fact she is so devoted to her job and basically has no connections. The fact that she goes along so easily with Graham, Ryan and also with O and many other random characters... doesn't make that much sense. It would've been more interesting if she was the one that did NOT trust the Doctor and never did for the whole first season she appeared, instead of the only one that actually does.

Sorry for the rant, I’m just very angry they are not doing much with her character.

I adore Jodie Whittaker and her doctor, and although I think 3 companions is too many I do love Yaz and Graham (Ryan is hit & miss). I just think theyve been massively let down by the stories/writing... they’ve tried to hard to tick certain boxes and completely missed what Doctor Who is about for a lot of people.. an escape from the real world into these outrageous unbelievable but lovable fun alien adventures

The Timeless Child

Summary:

“He who believes is a dreamer or a fool.” -Amelia B. Edwards, The Phantom Coach<br /> The Doctor spent all his lives proving people wrong. So, when he became a she, it was just another way that she made others question themselves and their beliefs. When she heard someone say the timeless child” she didn’t let herself believe it was someone she had seen before in one of her previous regenerations, but then again she had always been something of a dreamer and she had never and would never truly be a fool.

The Doctor had a lot to worry about, and that didn't even include when some creature had mentioned the timeless child to her. She hadn't had much time to consider such meaningful phrases. She needed to get Yaz, Graham, and Ryan back to Sheffield. She needed to learn how to manage driving and reading her new Tardis. She needed to figure out what her newest universal threat was, but she did not have time to worry about such a small, possibly meaningless phrase such as the term "the timeless child."

Every time some such phrase came to fruition in her lives, something drastic would occur in the life of that current regeneration that she couldn't control. Besides, the timeless child could mean any of a number of things. It might just be Jack Harkness.

The Doctor couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at that thought, making Yaz give her a curious look. She offered the girl a smile.

"Just thinking about an old friend," She explained.

"You didn't look very happy to be thinking about them," Yaz observed. The Doctor chuckled and nodded.

"Yes, well, you'd understand if you had ever met him. He's-" She shivered. "Unnatural, but I suppose I do miss him."

She brushed her hand through the air, trying not to think of her old friend. He was alive somewhere in this universe, but not likely meddling in her affairs. No, he couldn't be the timeless child.

Could it possibly be Jenny? She was likely still out there somewhere. Protecting the galaxies.

The Doctor leaned back against her console, resolving to take a break.

"It's been a while since we rested," she said. Ryan and Graham looked at her.

"Where could we rest here? Isn't this a spaceship?" Graham asked, his frosty brows furrowing together.

"A live-in spaceship," The Doctor corrected. She scanned the corridor and pointed down one of the halls. "There should be some doors down that hall, sexy will show you to your rooms. Get some rest. Eat some food, it'll be a blast."

"Sexy?" Ryan questioned with a roll of his eyes.

"The Tardis! I've been calling her that for so many faces, it'd be rude to stop now!" She said eagerly. "Now off you all go. I'm going to stop the Tardis off somewhere, but don't worry about a thing, just fueling her up."

Her tentative companions didn't look very eager to wander away from her, so she shooed them away with a soft noise and a wave of her hands. Once they had disappeared down the hall she began to direct the Tardis to the nearest spot to land. They weren't in Sheffield yet, but they were on Earth. Not in America anymore, no they were in Cardiff, and not in 2018. More in 2010.

Once she had parked, the Doctor peeked out the doors.

She hadn't been to Cardiff in ages. With Captain Jack protecting the town with Torchwood, she hadn't really needed to. Still, the city was everything she remembered it being. If she squinted she could almost see where she and Rose and Jack and Mickey had strolled the streets. Laughing, saving the day.

Her heart warmed at the memory.

She was almost surprised she could still remember such a tender time. She had spent so long forgetting things like that.

But could she ever forget Rose?

Looking in the mirror, she wondered if her own appearance was affected by that simple pink and yellow woman. She had never fully explored the implications that her blonde hair and thin frame really meant for her. She looked like Rose, that was undeniable.

All these years later, and she still missed her.

Of course, she still missed the others. Liz and Sarah Jane were never not in her heart, but she had always known, deep down that Rose was different.

Could she…?

She didn't dare dream that Rose was the timeless child. She didn't dare hope that her Rose was still alive, back in this universe trying to find her. Would she even like this new face?

A woman? Rose had always liked pretty boys, not pretty women.

Of course, she knew better than most that the Doctor could change into anything and anyone. She had always been prepared for something like this to happen, but that didn't truly mean she would like it, did it? She was a fool to imagine that Rose would return to her after all this time. Likewise, she was a fool to dare and dream that she had somehow become timeless.

Of course, they had only experienced a short time together after she had peered into the heart of the Tardis. A number of things could have changed in her body when that occurred. No, she wouldn't be a time lady, that was for sure. However, she could have turned into something else, something timeless.

The Doctor stepped out of the Tardis, carefully closing the doors behind her. She peered out at the streets of bustling people.

Even if Rose had changed. It was too late now. She had stranded her in the alternate universe twice now. She had given her her own Doctor and she had left her with her family. Rose had gotten everything she had ever wanted in the end.

If the meta-crisis Doctor hadn't died.

Now that was a thought the Doctor didn't like to think of. The idea that the Doctor's duplicate had met the same fate that she had just barely saved Donna from reaching was something that she didn't dare consider.

She would be too hurt if she ever allowed herself to think that her Rose hadn't gotten a happy ending. She had deserved one. She had deserved to live happily, even if the Doctor couldn't live it with her.

Now, Donna, she knew how Donna was living. She was married, she was happy, and she believed in herself now. The Doctor had made sure of that. Yes, Donna had always been her best friend. She had been wonderful, kept her level-headed, always platonic. Exactly what she had needed.

Unlike Amy, whom, yes, she had loved but had presented a romantic essence to her life she didn't really need anymore. Loving people that much only lead her to more and more pain in her future. Losing the Ponds had been the worst event in her life.

Then there was Clara, but she was on her own now. She couldn't be the timeless child. No, even that was impossible for her impossible girl.

She knew that this timeless child would be someone new. The likelihood of it being someone she had never met before was simply more realistic. The Doctor ought to focus on being more realistic. She had been such a dreamer in the past that it only made sense to be more practical now.

Yaz and the others would never let her be practical though. She had a duty. A duty to be the impractical dreamer of a Doctor she had always been.

She owed at least that much to Rose.

Rose would want her to continue on. She would want her to be happy, to have companions, to dream of what could be and firmly believe in that no matter how impractical it truly was.

Maybe she would ask Yaz, Ryan, and Graham to stay with her. Not forever, just for a time. They were a good band of companions. They were dependable, strong, and had a lot to learn about the Universe.

Besides, it wouldn't do her much good to be alone again.

Rose had never wanted her to be alone.

None of her companions had ever wanted her to be alone.

She yawned aloud, gaining the attention of a passing child. She smiled at it, a boy, and waved. The boy waved back.

Maybe she needed to get some rest. The Universe didn't need saving today.

So, the Doctor returned to her Tardis, she wandered down the hall, past familiar doors that she knew her old companions had inhabited once upon a time and made her way into her room. Pictures were plastered on this faces' wall. Memories that she could bear once again.

She smiled, slipped into her pajamas, and slid under her pink sheets.

Maybe one day she would see them again.

Maybe one day, she would see her again.

And just like that, the Universe's favorite timeless child went to rest.

Fuck it, gonna do Doctor Who for all of them because I’m in that mood.

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

I generally don’t get ONE true pairings for the Doctor at all? Like, the Doctor is thousands of years old. I don’t understand people who ship them with one person and are like, “But they only ever loved THAT PERSON. Because THAT PERSON is SPESHUL! :D” Like shit, they also love a flying spaceship box, I think they got enough love in their hearts (TWO OF THEM) to love a bunch of different people. 

I’m trying to think if there’s any particular ship where I just DON’T see it, where there’s like no evidence or anything and it just doesn’t make sense. Like I don’t like 10/Rose, but there’s plenty of evidence, y’anno? Until recently, I woulda been there with 13/Yaz, but then Yaz was basically, “Oh, no, yeah, I’m a little bit in love with her.”

I guess....is 13/Bill a thing? Because if it is, I don’t like that at all. I’m not saying Bill wouldn’t freak out that one of the only solid family figures in her life turned into a woman who isn’t *not* her type, but man, I feel like Bill would have more sense than that.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

I’m a lot more amenable to 13/Yaz than I used to be. But it still squicks me to a decent extent. Like Doctor/19-year-old girls is never a dynamic I’ve been particularly comfortable with, all the way back to 9/Rose. There’s a power difference there that’s not great. Plus, a lot of women I’ve talked to, at right around 19, had this one REALLY NOT GREAT boyfriend, the kind that led them down a bit of a wrong path or was emotionally distant at best and abusive at worst, usually older than them with some power imbalance, frequently very attractive and charismatic tho. 

The Doctor? They’re that boyfriend.

And like, Yaz deserves so much better? I got kind of sick of Rose, but she deserved better too. 

Like, I like ship dynamics that are fucked up (duh, I’m a huge Doctor/Master fan), but I don’t like ship dynamics where one person really doesn’t have any clue what they’re getting into at all. And at 19, if you’re tryna get in the pants of a Lonely God, you do not have any clue what you’re doing man.

Anyway, I’ve read some good 13/Yaz recently, some of which has explored this power imbalance, so yeah.

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

This used to be Clara, but then Clara had a big renaissance. Um....I feel like most people don’t like Graham as much as I like Graham...

I...uh...kinda ship Graham/13 quite a bit actually.

Oh! Nardole! A bunch of people hated fucking Nardole, but I even shipped 12/Nardole something fierce...

I think I’m sensing a pattern. 

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?

10th Doctor

I think 10 is the worst, most unDoctor-ish Doctor, perhaps ever, but certainly in Nu!Who. I know that that is a super duper Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Hot Take, but I genuinely believe it. RTD did a lot of things with 10 that I don’t think are particularly consistent with the character before or since, and I didn’t like them. I know he’s the favorite of most people, especially nu!Who fans, but I cannot like him. I think the best thing 10 gave us was SOME Time Lord Victorious stuff, but even then that went too far.

12th Doctor

I...didn’t like Series 10 that much. I loved Bill and the Vault arc, but I’m not sure...that 12 was needed in Series 10. I almost would have preferred 12 regenerate and another Doctor do that. 

I know! I know! Blasphemy. And 12 is genuinely my fave Doctor of all time, it’s just he felt so warn out and tired in Series 10. It felt so tacked on. And I think part of that was the fault of the fact that Moffat had been running the show for so long that he was running out of tricks and avenues to explore, so actually HAVING another Doctor wouldn’t have solved anything, but still, yeah...them’s my facts.

13th Doctor

IDK how popular/unpopular this is, but she absolutely bored me shitless in S11. She was very flat and facile, a bit hypocritical, but not in an interesting way that was being explored, just in a face-value way. Like, obviously I watched every episode and I enjoyed it to a point, but I’m so glad things progressed, especially in terms of her characterization.

when I started shipping it if I did: i shipped it before i started watching the show, it was one of those gifsets that crossed my dash and i was like ‘hmm interesting okay’ and then i watched it and i literally got to the scene that my tag is from and i was like ‘uh oh i ship it harder’ because literally felicity’s first words to laurel are: “you’re laurel, that laurel, gorgeous laurel”

my thoughts: they deserve better than whatever dude they ended up with (especially since their common boyfriend is oliver fucking queen) and i always felt they had way more chemistry and would have been way more interesting together

What makes me happy about them: after felicity got over her ‘all women are my competition’ bullshit the amount of support and belief she had in laurel was amazing. laurel pulled herself out of a very dark place and after her sister died she could have fallen back to substance abuse but instead she channeled that into fighting bad guys but no one believed in her, aside from felicity

What makes me sad about them: they never really got a lot of chances to interact. like the scenes they had were great but a lot of the time it was them talking about oliver or competing over oliver and only towards the end of laurel’s life was when they finally got to talk like friends

things done in fanfic that annoys me: i don’t like when oliver is to present because a lot of times he’s written as a jealous asshole which is accurate for tv and i read fic to change that

things I look for in fanfic: i like supportive protective girlfriends. i also love when fics address felicity’s disability, you know when she was paralyzed for three episodes after being shot in the spine? and then it magically got better? idk i just like fics that don’t make that time disappear and have supportive laurel there helping her girlfriend 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: literally anyone other than oliver motherfucking queen

My happily ever after for them: obviously together, laurel is alive and oliver died on that mountain the day he was supposed to so now laurel and felicity are in charge of team arrow and continue on his legacy of protecting star city. basically what the show was except oliver died in whatever season he faced ras al ghul and laurel took over

who is the big spoon/little spoon: laurel is the big spoon, she’s the black canary, she does the protecting, though on hard days or days laurel gets hurt felicity takes over the big spool role

when I started shipping it if I did: god almost right from the beginning? i loved their meeting so much ‘i’m going to call you yaz because we’re friends’ but i think the spider episode is what really did it because of the whole scene with yaz’s mom asking if her and the doctor were together and the doctor genuinely not knowing the answer and looking to yaz to answer

my thoughts: i never really shipped the doctor with any companions, idk i just never saw it. martha deserved better, donna was a bff, the ponds had each other, rose was meeh not my fave character, clara was far too good for any of the doctors (but maybe it’s just because i’m gay as hell but i could get behind clara/13) and i don’t like river song period. but the chemistry yaz and the doctor has is amazing and hilarious and works so well because they’re both so curious and fit together so well and always have each other’s backs

What makes me happy about them: they fit so perfectly! they’re always ready to jump into adventure first head on while the boys are kind of tallying what could go wrong. yaz is fucking smart as hell and her and the doctor are equal in a lot of ways intellectually, like if the doctor has an idea yaz is literally saying the same thing not two seconds later. i also love that the doctor hasn’t said no to yaz (or any of the companions) but the number one rule of time travel with the doctor is don’t cross your time line and what did they do when yaz asked? went back in time to meet her nan when she was younger. like the doc throws all the rules out the window with yaz and i love it 

What makes me sad about them: it’s the doctor and a companion. they’re not going to have a happy ending so i’m preparing myself for the sads

things done in fanfic that annoys me: anything that makes the doctor annoyingly childlike because yes she’s young and curious but there’s a difference between childlike awe and fascination and straight up stupidity and ‘i don’t know how to put on socks yaz lol’

things I look for in fanfic: i’m a sucker for protective fics. i love when the doctor can go from ‘wow yaz look at the wild universe’ to ‘you touch one hair on yasmin khan’s head and i will end you’ which is basically what the show is anymore and i love it

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: i mean the doctor and river i guess (though really not a fan of river) and yaz with a nice girl that supports her like the doctor does. just not ryan, please, i love ryan so so much but him and yaz are way more sibling like than couple like
