「 🔴 RECORDING 」
Tumblr media
found footage of satoru's student years... recorded on the camcorder that he carried around everywhere.
warnings : heavy angst, fluff, implied death, not proofread
Tumblr media
[ the first footage is one minute long. there's two blue eyes widening comedically on the screen. the resolution is low and the audio is tinny. ]
"Ooo it works... well hellooooooo there... i'm... GOJO!! SATORU!! and this is... suguuuuruu getooooo... oh look at that walk, you're such a model."
[ the camera is on suguru, who's walking with bad posture. he doesn't like the camera. ]
[ he has his old hairstyle; this was recorded before his hair was long enough to be in the bun style. he hides his face from the camera. ]
"... aw, he's a model that doesn't like cameras. anyways... this is the beautiful... STUNNING... hot... talented... playing-hard-to-get... (haha kidding)... y/n~"
[ the camera pans to you. you can hear the flirty tone in satoru's voice. ]
"... we are currently walking through the gates of hell..."
[ the camera pans to the school. the resolution clears for a second to show a blue sky with slowly drifting clouds. ]
"okay. we have arrived in hell; look there's satan himself—"
[ the camera pans to yaga. ]
[ the footage ends with yaga confiscating satoru's camera and scolding him. ]
Tumblr media
[ a video starts off shaky. the camera is dropped on the train floor and suguru sighs. ]
"satoru...... did you just break it after having it for one day?"
[ satoru picks it up and gives a toothy smile to the screen. ]
"nah. she's all good. not even a scratch. ooh... suguru we look so hot. and look how hot y/n is... she's so scandalous — sittin' next to me on the train. this proximity's got me sweatin', baby... kidding kidding... don't gimme that look!"
Tumblr media
[ suguru gives the middle finger to the camera and satoru's iconic laugh sounds beautiful even through the crap audio quality. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's a 3 minute video that's half-corrupted of a party happening in your apartment... of just you, satoru, suguru and shoko. lykke li's "i follow rivers" is playing loudly, satoru is screaming the lyrics in broken english and suguru is recording you and him dancing like maniacs. shoko is offering her cigarette to the camera and blowing smoke into the lens. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's a 25 second clip of satoru aggressively kissing you until you laugh. ]
Tumblr media
[ there is a photo of satoru crouching to pet a cat. he's holding an umbrella. ]
Tumblr media
[ there is corrupted footage of laughter and a flicker of the video shows a tiny pot on a stove with ramen cooking in it. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's a photo of you, satoru, suguru and shoko. you and satoru are looking at each other like lovebirds. suguru is giving the finger to the camera. shoko is laughing with her eyes closed. ]
Tumblr media
[ a long video of satoru waking up in a hotel bed. he looks like he just woke up. he blinks at the camera, bleary-eyed and cute with puffy lips and messy hair. ]
"goodmornin'."
[ his morning rasp is strong. ]
"i'm awake... but miss sleepy head and mister sleepy head are not, as you can see..."
[ he zooms in on your face. you're laid at his right, and suguru is laid at his left. ]
"here's the sleeping angel... and here's the sleeping dragon... anyways... WAKEY WAKEYYYYYYYYY!!! IT'S A BRIGHT NEW DAY!!!"
[ suguru's wakeful groan sounds groggy and disturbed by satoru's loud, piercing wake-up call. you scrunch your face as you wake up, seemingly out of a dream. ]
"satoru... what the hell is the matter with you..."
[ it's an ultra close-up shot of your nose as you mumble this. ]
"i was lonely being awake by myself, gosh. you're so mean!"
[ he experiences a voice crack. suguru gives a sleepy, murderous look at his best friend. ]
"satoru... i swear i'm gonna throw that camera into traffic one day."
[ suguru's mumbling into his pillow too softly to be taken seriously. ]
"wanna say that to the camera?"
[ suguru looks grouchy. ]
"i'll kill you."
"WOW... buddy, this is evidence if you ever do kill me... the police will find this footage... 'n put your FLAT ass in jail. aw... y/n fell back asleep look look... aw she's so fucking precious."
[ suguru and satoru admire you for a bit. there rest of the footage is corrupted. ]
Tumblr media
[ footage of a breakfast in the same hotel. sunny side eggs are zoomed-in on. and there's only eggs. ]
"we're too broke to buy bacon, isn't that cool?"
[ satoru gets a nice view up his nose as he tilts the camera to himself. then he turns the camera to you, who's sleepily eating this miserable breakfast. ]
"... so we just have eggs to eat... heyyyy hot babe..."
[ satoru flirts with you and you roll your eyes in response, smiling and chewing on your egg, fork in one hand. ]
"wanna hear a joke?"
"mhm."
"if you ever broke up with me, what would you call me?"
"an idiot?"
"your eggs."
[ you groan and stop eating because his pun was so awful, but you've got a big smile on your face and satoru is laughing heartily. ]
[ the video ends with you and satoru leaning in for a big kiss and a sleepy suguru walking into the room, itching his tummy under his shirt. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's a clip of you, satoru, suguru and shoko yelling happy new year and watching fireworks explode into blazing, brilliant colors. suguru winks at the camera as you hold it and you giggle flirtatiously back. there's clearly tension between you two that neither satoru nor shoko acknowledge in the moment, because the fireworks distract them. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's footage of you, satoru and suguru kissing. it ends with satoru kissing the camera as a joke. ]
Tumblr media
[ most of the footage is corrupted after this. in the next video, satoru seems a bit older. ]
Tumblr media
[ there's footage of a solo satoru, who's been enlightened and and burdened with being the strongest. he's on a mission alone, keeping the camcorder on as he exorcises a curse. he trots over to the camera. he seems less enthusiastic compared to the other videos. ]
"aaand that's what the strongest looks like while he's at work."
[ satoru looks smug and goofy, but something is off. his features look worn and tired. ]
[ there is already that slightly disingenuous liveliness showing in his demeanor just in this small video; the version of satoru that his students would know as just normal gojo sensei. ]
[ his smile falters as he rambles about y/n and suguru. ]
"i'm gonna give y/n a big kiss when i get home. miss you, angel. haha... why am i talking to a camera all by myself... that's so sad. i'm gonna film myself gettin' that kiss at home, just to prove i'm not some lonely idiot. i have a hot fiancé..."
Tumblr media
[ one of the last photos taken on this camera is dated; august 2009. it's of you and satoru sharing a big kiss... neither of you knew it at the time, but it was your last kiss. ]
Tumblr media
[ the next piece of footage is from 2018. it's a 28 year old gojo, his features show his maturity and the weathering of all the years he's endured living without you and suguru.]
"i found this camera while cleaning up. if i look 'n sound funny it's 'cuz i've been crying haha......"
"...... i miss you two..... haha... i can't shove the camera in your faces like i used to, now can i?"
[ he awkwardly smiles at the camera but then his face trembles and contorts into an ugly-cry as if he just remembered every single memory of his youth. ]
[ the footage ends with a broken, barely audible "fuck..." falling from the teacher's lips as he starts to cry and drops the camera to the floor. the rest is corrupted footage... just heaving sobs of the man who has no more memories to record with suguru and y/n. ]

GOJO SATORU doesn't like to be touched.
Tumblr media
take it as you want, but the strongest sorcerer doesn't let people touch him, not after geto. no, it's why his infinity is up all the time. he thinks he'd be vulnerable once again if he lowers his guard, that he'd become weak if he lets someone touch him. It isn't like that at first glance, he looks like the kind of guy to distribute hugs to every single person. but he isn't. he doesn't like physical contact, he can't have physical contact, or he'll crumble.
that was, until you came. what started out as simply being his roommate turned into so much more, watching studio ghilbi movies together, cooking together and what not. but that was all a front. yes, he'd comfort you when you were sad, but he'd never hug you, or even hold your trembling hands. it's like he's almost repulsed to touched you. things worsen when one day you see him with his head in his hands, hands that were trembling. you approached him, put your hands on his shoulders to give him support, but instead, he flinched. flinched hard, and it all came crumbling down. he yelled and yelled, he screamed that he didn't need anyone, that he didn't need you to care for him. hell, he was the strongest, and he sure as hell didn't need someone like you to care for him. he was fine. he was fine alone. it sounded as if he was trying to convince himself more than you, red eyes and trembling body. worst part? you couldn't do anything about it. because he wouldn't let you.
and he was right. you did care too much, too much to the point where you confused care with love. the word slipped out of your mouth with no thought, and he froze. he couldn't believe it, he needed to hear it again. he made you say it ten times, before you had to blurt out every single thing you loved about him. that's when he realised, that maybe it wasn't so bad to let someone in, that it didn't need to be so lonely at the top. you changed him, you made him a better person, and most of all, you showed him that he'd always be the strongest, no matter how vulnerable he is, or no matter how many people he'll let in, because at the end of the day, he's the people's hope, more so, he's the light of your life.

Secrets big and small
tenth doctor x GN!reader
Summary: in which you are forced to admit your feelings for the Doctor, even if you think he will leave you for it
A/N: For the absolute love of my life and favorite beta, thanks for dealing with me talking about this more than I wrote it
Tumblr media
The Doctor poked his head out of the TARDIS, his nose twitching as he sniffed the air. After a few good inhales, he popped back inside the ship, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
You waited by the ship's console, your hands planted firmly on your hips. The Doctor had promised you a beach vacation, and judging by his face, this wasn’t a beach. Sometimes you wondered how much control the Doctor actually had over the ship, considering it only landed in the places he intended about 25% of the time.
“We’re not at a beach are we?”
The Doctor ignored your question and moved over to the console, grabbing one of the many oddly shaped screens attached to the control panel. He pulled his glasses out of his suit pocket, perching the spectacles on the bridge of his nose.
“Interesting…” He hummed, more to himself than you.
“Where did we end up this time?” You asked, opening the door to peek outside. You knew better than to walk off without the Doctor, but a little look had never hurt you.
The minute you opened the door you were met with the bustling noise of a street. All kinds of aliens walked by you, each one unique in their own way.
“It would appear we landed on the planet Phact, but I’m not sure why.”
You continued to stare out of the TARDIS wide-eyed, taking in all of the strange creatures before you. Your eyes followed an individual who walked by, a series of tentacles hanging out of his mouth.
“Is it safe?” you asked as an afterthought.
“As far as I know,” the Doctor shrugged, putting his glasses back in his pocket. He moved away from the console to stand at your side by the door.
You looked over at him, debating if you should tell him that wasn’t exactly a reassuring thought.
“Since we’re here…” he smiled cheekily, inclining his head toward the door. You laughed and rolled your eyes. The Doctor never could resist a good adventure.
You followed him out the door, waiting momentarily as he locked the TARDIS up.
“Remember that time you forgot to tell me it was rude to wear less than three layers on Titan 4?” you ask, watching him slip the key back into his endless coat pockets.
The Doctor shrugs, pushing his hands into his pockets and leaning toward you. “Yeah, what about it?”
“Is there anything I should know about this planet?” you raise your eyebrows questioningly.
The Doctor’s brow wrinkled as he thought about it, trying to remember his limited knowledge about Phact.
“I don’t think so,” he shrugged again, smiling softly.
You scrunched your nose slightly, not sure you believed him. Still, you followed him.
The Doctor talked excitedly as the two of you walked through the city streets. Most of the time, you only understood half of the words he was saying. Frankly, you just enjoyed listening to him talk.
As you walked your eyes took in everything around you. It didn’t matter how long you traveled with the Doctor, it always seemed like there was more for you to learn and discover.
The Doctor continued talking, waving his hands about in the air. Abruptly, he stopped to look at a nearby poster. You followed him, trying to peek over his shoulder to see what he was looking at. The Doctor shifted to the side so you could read the sign too, the TARDIS translation circuit making the writing legible to you.
“The 998th Olympic games?” you read aloud, your eyebrows furrowed.
“That would explain all of the species here!” he smiled brightly, looking at the diverse crowd around you.
You nodded in agreement, following his gaze. There really did appear to be all kinds of species from around the galaxy.
“Want to go?” He whispered to you, raising his eyebrows mischievously.
“We don’t have tickets. Or money.”
The Doctor wiggled his eyebrows again, pulling the psychic paper out of his pocket. He shook it at you with a mischievous grin.
A smile took over your own face as you nodded, “alright then,” you said excitedly. You’d never been to the Olympics, let alone the space Olympics.
The Doctor guided you through the crowd towards the giant area, holding your hand tightly so as not to lose you. You tried not to focus too much on the feeling of his hand wrapped around yours. He just didn’t want you to wander off, there wasn’t much else to it, right?
“Y’know I carried the Olympic torch once,” he smirked back at you, still guiding you through the crowds.
“Why am I not surprised?”
“What?” the Doctor asked, not catching your comment over the chatter of the crowd. You smiled softly and shook your head, deciding it was best not to repeat yourself.
The Doctor led you to the ticket line, waiting patiently for the guards to check your tickets and let you in. He bounced slightly on his feet, unable to stand still for too long.
“Are you sure this is going to work?” you asked anxiously, eyeing the copious amounts of security surrounding the arena.
“Of course!” the Doctor smiled brightly, rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb. The movement made both of you realize he was still holding your hand, even if he didn’t need to. With a small, hardly discernible blush, the Doctor slid his hand from yours.
The line moved forward and the guard asked for your tickets. The Doctor winked at you before handing the psychic paper over with a confident smile.
“Are you serious, mate?” The guard laughed dryly, looking between you and the Doctor.
“Most of the time,” the Doctor’s confident smile didn’t waver.
The guard sighed and leaned into his walkie-talkie, chattering softly to someone on the other end. You looked up at the Doctor with wide eyes, urging him to explain.
“Probably getting us a special escort or something,” he shrugged, turning the paper around to see what your fake tickets said. When his eyes landed on the paper his face instantly turned ghostly white.
“Doctor…” you growled softly.
“W-we should probably run now,” he whispered back. Before you could react, the security guard pulled the two of you firmly to the side.
“Doctor, what is going on?” You whispered as the guard led the two of you to a police car. At least, you assumed it was a police car. Unless flashing red and blue lights meant something else on other planets, it was definitely a police car.
“I’m sorry,” the Doctor winced softly as the security guard guided the two of you to an officer. The cop looked you up and down before guiding you inside of the car.
“I would feel a lot better if you told me why.”
You weren’t necessarily mad about the police car, it wasn’t the first time you had gotten arrested on the Doctor’s behalf. Usually, he was able to get you out of it. You were more frustrated that he wasn’t telling you what was happening.
“Remember Titan 4?” he winced.
“Doctor!” you snapped angrily, “I specifically asked you if I needed to know anything about this planet!”
“Right, I know I’m sorry, I forgot,” he whispered, shaking his head softly.
“How bad is it?” you sighed, looking down at your lap.
“They’re not gonna kill us,” he shrugged with a sad smile.
“What did we even do?”
“You can’t lie on Phact.”
“Like, physically?”
The Doctor grimaced, thinking the question through, “not exactly,” he offered. You waited for him to further explain.
“They can tell telepathically if you lie and that ability extends to psychic paper.”
“I gathered as such,” you sighed, “but that still doesn't explain why we’re in a cop car”
“It’s illegal to lie.”
“Seriously?” you gaped, “any kind of lie?”
The Doctor nodded.
“Even if you tell your friend she looks fine when she really looks a mess 'cause you want to spare her feelings?”
The Doctor frowned but nodded again, more tentatively this time.
“That’s a horrible idea.”
“Don’t tell them that.”
You sighed softly in agreement.
“I really am sorry,” he looked at you with those big, sad brown eyes of his. It was very, very hard to stay mad at him when he looked at you like that. It was your weakness.
“It’s fine,” you shook your head. “What are they going to do?”
Before the Doctor could answer, the car stopped and a cop came around to help you out of the car. The officer led you inside a very space-looking police station to a very Earth-looking interrogation room. You sat next to the Doctor in metal fold-out chairs, a table separating you and the officer. At least they didn’t cuff you.
“Names,” the officer groaned, clicking his pen and hovering it over a yellow legal pad. He had the kind of face and demeanor that told you he would rather be anywhere else.
“The Doctor.”
“Really funny, what’s your actual name?” the officer frowned.
“That’s my name,” the Doctor pouted, offended that someone would think it wasn’t. You smiled softly to yourself, finding the Doctor’s disappointed frown adorable.
“Fine,” the officer groaned, scribbling it down on his paper. “Age?”
“904,” he said without blinking. You hid your widening smile with your hand. You were starting to feel a little bad for the police officer.
“You’re how old?”
“904.”
“Species?”
“Gallifreyan.”
“Never heard of them,” the officer shook his head, writing it down on his paper. “You lot must age differently,” he grumbled, more towards his paper than the two of you.
“Right, and you?” the officer asked, tilting his head in your direction.
The Doctor nodded softly at you, urging you to comply with the officer’s wishes. You sighed and answered the same questions. The officer just seemed relieved to write down something less ridiculous.
“Alright,” he slid the paper pad away from him before leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed “You have been charged with a first-class felony of deception. You will not be fined or executed. To be released from custody you must provide your biggest secret”
“That’s it?” you asked, it seemed a little too simple. The officer nodded, clearly fed up with you and the Doctor.
“Look, folks, let’s just make this easier for all of us and get on with it?”
The Doctor nodded his agreement, casting a nervous look over at you. You nodded back, trying to think of something you could say. You knew easily what your biggest secret was, but you knew you couldn’t say it out loud. Especially not in front of the Doctor.
“I’m terrified of hospitals,” the Doctor said with a small frown.
“That’s ironic,” you chuckled, assuming he was making a joke. The officer stared at him for a few minutes, probably thinking the same thing.
“Checks out,” the officer sighed, writing “scared of hospitals” next to his other notes on the Doctor. “Weird secret, mate,” he added before turning his attention to you.
You fiddled anxiously before leaning back in your seat, your eyes trained on your hands.
“Does he have to be here for it?” you asked softly. The Doctor looked at you confused, wondering what was so bad you didn’t want him to know.
“I just admitted I'm terrified of hospitals as a doctor, it can't get worse than that,” he laughed.
“Does he?” you asked the officer, ignoring the Doctor. The cop looked between the two of you; the Doctor staring wide-eyed and open-mouthed at you, and you trying to act like he wasn’t there.
“Yes,” the officer challenged, leaning back in his seat again. You narrowed your eyes at him, wondering if he only said that to see how things would play out.
“So, what’s your secret?” he smirked, confirming your suspicions. “I’ll know if you’re lying”
You sighed, trying to steady your racing heart. You wanted to scream, maybe even cry. You wanted to blame the Doctor, even if it wasn’t really his fault. Even more, you wanted to wipe that stupid, smug smile off of the officer’s face.
You took one last look at the Doctor, smiling sadly at him. He looked back at you with confusion, unsure why you were looking at him as if it was the last time you’d ever see him. To you, it felt like it would be. He could never look at you the same, not after this.
“I’m in love with this idiot,” you sighed, cocking your head towards the Doctor. The silence that followed was deafening. While the Doctor’s brain struggled to process your words the officer sized you up, searching for any falsities in your statement.
“What a strange pair,” the officer shook his head, leaning forward to write on his pad again. “In love with the other one”
You looked at those words scribbled on the thin, crappy paper and felt your heart clench. It was out there now, the Doctor knew. At the moment, you couldn’t think of anything worse. You would rather spend your entire life in prison than have had to admit that.
“You’re free to go,” the officer waved you off, more preoccupied with writing more things on his paper pad. It seemed so simple, yet one little secret had turned your world upside down.
You nodded solemnly and stood up, heading out the door. The Doctor wasn’t far behind you.
The walk back to the TARDIS was really quiet, a stark contrast from a few short hours ago. You tried not to sulk too much as you walked through the busy streets back to the ship.
The Doctor unlocked the doors without a word, holding them open for you. You walked inside the ship for what you assumed was the last time. The Doctor followed, heading over to the console to mess with a few buttons.
“I’ll pack my things,” you whispered, more to the floor than the Doctor. You moved towards the hallway that led to your room but the Doctor cut you off.
“What?”
“I’ll pack up,” your eyes remained trained on the floor, not wanting to look into his. You knew the Doctor wasn’t going to keep you around after this. It was glaringly clear that he didn’t have those feelings for you, that he couldn’t.
“Why would you do that?” he frowned, moving away from the console.
“You’re kicking me out.”
“I think I would know if I was.” He moved so he was standing in front of you, tilting his head down in an attempt to catch your eye.
“It’s ok,” you shook your head, your eyes trained on your shoes, “I know you don’t want me around anymore.”
“Is this about the whole secret thing?” the Doctor asked gently.
“I know you don’t feel the same, I never expected you to,” you shook your head, averting your gaze again. “I’d understand if you just wanted to drop me back at home.”
“Is that what you want?”
You shook your head, clearing your throat, “It’s not exactly about what I want is it?”
The Doctor remained silent, his mind working for the right thing to say. He didn’t fully comprehend what was happening.
“You’re under the assumption that I’m going to drop you because you love me?” He said softly, still trying to catch your eye.
“Is that not what’s happening right now?” You frowned, confused.
The Doctor laughed softly, moving away from you with one long stride. He ran his hands through his hair, tugging at the spiky strands. You continued to frown at him, confused by his demeanor.
“I can establish a psychic block,” he explained, waving his hands about as he talked. You frowned, confused as to why he was talking about this now. “I told the officer a secret, but I didn’t tell him my greatest secret.”
He had the kind of look on his face he got when he was trying, and failing, to figure something out. It was a look you knew well at this point, you had just never been the cause of it.
“There’s so much of you in my head,” he groaned, waving his hands by the sides of his face, “which is saying a lot 'cause I have more in my head than you will ever experience in your entire life.”
You gaped at him, unsure what you were supposed to say in this scenario. Was this his secret?
“You take up so much space,” he emphasized exasperatedly, repeatedly running his hands through his hair. “Even when you’re not here I’m constantly thinking about you!” He leaned his hands against the console, hanging his head as he continued rambling.
You stared at him like he had grown a second head. No, three extra heads. And a tail.
“I’m sorry, what?” you asked.
The Doctor moved back over to you, reaching out to cradle your face in his hands. He cupped your cheeks gently and bent his head forward so your foreheads connected.
“You take up so much space,” he whispered, his breath fanning across your face. “And the fact that you can’t see that kills me, it really kills me.”
“Doctor-” you whispered in shock. In your mind, there was only ever one way that the Doctor could react to your feelings, and this certainly wasn’t it. “Are you saying what I think you are?”
The Doctor laughed sharply, shaking his head against yours, “You’re clueless, y’know that?”
“You’re not much better,” you frowned back. “But that doesn’t answer my question.” Your heart thudded against your chest, threatening to beat right out of your body. The mere implication that the Doctor could have even a shred of feelings for you was sending your senses into overdrive.
“Yes, I am,” he whispered. That was all you needed. You knew it was hard for him to say things like this. He wasn’t exactly the “I love you” type. The fact that he had said this much already was a wonder.
You didn’t really think about it, you just kissed him. His lips fit against yours perfectly and the kiss was over much sooner than either of you had wanted.
Your face was still cradled in his hands as the Doctor bent down to press another, quicker kiss against your lips, returning the act of affection. You smiled happily as he pulled back, looking up at him with pure adoration.
“Are you really afraid of hospitals though?” you asked, your eyebrows furrowed.
“Terrified,” he shook his head.

You're his ex, but he's desperate for a babysitter. (pt. 4)

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
─────────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────────────────
Mike sits at his kitchen table, trying not to nod off into his cereal. Today is a quiet day. A lazy day. His one day off.
Except, not really. There's always work to be done. He just has to figure out what today's work would be. He's caught up on laundry and dishes, the house isn't too much of a mess... Hm. Maybe he should finally fix the dripping pipe in the bathroom. Or the living room window that's been stuck for years. Or one of the million other things wrong with his house.
He sighs and goes to take a bite of his cereal, only to realize he forgot the milk. Damn it. When he opens the fridge, he stands face to face with a little blue dolphin stuffed animal. Right... Abby's still testing him. He leaves it alone, she'll see it when she gets home from school and assume her "spell" still works. Pfft.
Mike nearly drops the milk mid-pour when he hears the phone ring.
*click.*
"Hello?" He mumbles groggily, a little annoyed to have his morning brooding interrupted.
"Hey, Mike? You free at all today?"
He immediately perks up at the sound of your voice. It's been two days since he last saw you, and he honestly wasn't sure if you'd ever speak to him again.
"Yeah, uh... It's my day off, actually."
"Good. I'm using that 2nd favor."
Mike's heart races. If this favor is going to be anything like the last one, he was definitely up for it.
"Oh? Missing me already, sweetheart?"
"As if. I need you to build me a shelf."
A shelf? Well, that was unexpected. Hm. Better than nothing.
"What, like build it from scratch? Are you expecting me to buy the boards, or-"
"No. I have all the pieces. It just needs to be assembled."
"You can't assemble a shelf?" Mike scoffs, but secretly he's pleased. Sounds like you just want an excuse to have him over.
"Mike. You know I'm no good with tools."
No, he didn't know that actually. Liar. You definitely just wanted to see him again. God, he felt giddy.
"Mhm. Sure."
"Just get your ass over here, Schmidt."
"Woah, what's with the attitude, Princess? I'm here to help." He can't help but let some smugness seep into his tone. Okay, more than some. He's a cocky bastard and he knows it.
"I've been working on the damn thing all morning. Almost three hours now. Not in the mood, jackass."
Shit. You sounded sincere. And really pissed off. Then again, what kind of a shelf took three hours to assemble? The fuck was it? A jigsaw puzzle?
"Alright, alright. I'll be over soon. See ya."
Mike slumps against the counter as you grumble something incoherent and slam the phone down. Damn, what is he getting himself into this time?
Only one way to find out.
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
When Mike finally arrives at your apartment half an hour later, he feels a bit silly. He put on a nice shirt and trousers to come see you, and here you are in sweats and a baggy t-shirt. Figures.
"Call for a handyman?" He greets you with a teasing smile, holding up his old rusted toolbox as he makes his way inside.
"Pfft. Someone's happy to see me."
Mike can't really say anything to that, so he doesn't try. He is happy to see you, even if you have attitude problems and dress like a bum.
"So, I bought the damn thing from a friend-of-a-friend, who got it at a garage sale. I swear, it has to be missing some parts or something, because-"
He nods as you rattle on and lead him to your bedroom, but he's only half-listening. He looks around your apartment, taking it all in. It's been at least six months since he last came over, probably longer. It doesn't look to have changed much. He likes your apartment. It's cozy.
"Anyways... can you fix it?"
Mike pauses in the doorway of your bedroom as you give him a sheepish smile and gesture to something in the corner.
Holy hell. Is that supposed to be a shelf? Mike can't help but think that the hideous agglomeration of boards and screws would only be good as a fire-starter. It looks more like a pile than a shelf.
"Uhh..." He bites his cheek, desperately trying not to burst into a fit of laughter. Maybe you really weren't lying about the whole "no good with tools" thing.
He finally loses it when you groan and flop down on the bed, hiding your face in a pillow.
"Ughh... Laugh at me, whatever. Just fix it."
"Jesus Christ. This has to be the sorriest excuse for a shelf I've ever seen. Sure you don't want me to haul it to the junkyard instead?" He snorts, sitting down on the edge of your bed and looking with disdain at the half-assedly assembled shelf.
Mike immediately shuts his mouth when you glare at him. Oops, right, you're in a bad mood.
"I mean, uh... you tried?" He laughs, shaking his head in amusement. He still can't believe you're actually this inept when it comes to assembly.
"Get to work, Schmidt."
Mike yelps as you kick him off the bed, but doesn't bother retaliating. He just grabs his toolbox and sits on the floor, examining the so-called "shelf".
"Well, the first step is going to be un-doing everything you did."
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
You lie on your stomach in bed, chin propped up on your hands as you kick your feet in the air and ponder the sight before you. Mike's back is turned to you as he quietly works away taking apart the monstrosity you assembled.
"How long is this gonna take?"
"Well, If it wasn't so..." He trails off, glancing at you and choosing his words more carefully.
"...sturdy, it'd be a lot easier to take apart."
"Hm? What do you mean?"
He gives you an incredulous look and gestures to a series of nails in a corner where two boards meet. It does look pretty ridiculous, the sharp ends pointing out the other side. Not your best work.
"You put nails in it, sweetheart." He scoffs.
"How else was I supposed to keep it together?" You give him your best pout, and gloat internally when he has to turn away. He's absolutely infatuated with you. Even the back of his neck is pink.
"It comes with screws for a reason, ya know."
"There's a difference?"
He turns and gives you a flat look, and you laugh. Damn. You can play dumb with him, but maybe not that dumb. Noted.
Still, it's a little boring just laying there and watching him grumble and pull nails from wood. You can't really mess with him too much either, because you really do what him to fix the stupid shelf.
"You want something to drink?" You finally break the silence, under the guise of trying to be a good hostess.
"Pfft. Need some whiskey to deal with this bullshit." He snorts, pulling yet another nail free. He'd almost gotten one board off. One. This was gonna take a while.
"I was thinking more along the lines of soda or tea."
"Jack and Coke, then?"
"Mike. It's hardly past noon."
"So?" He scoffs. "For me, this is like... evening, or something. I dunno. Sleep schedule's fucked with this new job."
That answer makes you pause.
"What is it you do now, anyway?"
He groans, finally prying one of the boards free of the clusterfuck.
"Night guard. Told you already, remember?" He tries to shrug the question off, but you're nosy.
"Where?"
"Uhh... Freddy Fazbear's Pizza..."
"Speak up."
"Ugh. It's this stupid rundown hellhole pizzeria. Honestly dunno why anyone would wanna break in there anyways. It's a dump."
"What kind of a pizzeria needs a night guard? Or any guard?"
"The haunted kind."
You decide not to ask about that, simply shaking your head as you walk to the door. He's truly a loon. A loveable loon, unfortunately.
"Just tell me what you want to drink, Mikey, or I'm getting you water."
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
Mike sits on the floor of your bedroom sipping his glass of water and wondering how he got here. If you'd told him a week ago he'd be building his witch of an ex-girlfriend a shelf, he would've gagged. Now...? Well, he just wants to go join you on that bed.
"So are you really just gonna sit there and look pretty while I do all the work?"
"Aww, you think I'm pretty, Mikey? You smile, lying on the bed with your feet kicking in the air, giving him a look of pure adoration. It wasn't hard to do.
"Pretty annoying, yeah." He turns away with a scoff, returning to his work. If only he could get this stupid nail untangled from the other two... why would anyone use this many nails?
"You know, I think I liked you better gagged."
"Oh I know, sweetheart. I could see it in those evil eyes of yours." He can't help but smirk a bit at the comment, though. Sometimes he liked himself better gagged, too. He shakes the thought away and keeps working.
"Why can't you just get on hands and knees and beg me to take you back already?" You huff dramatically and roll over onto your back, letting your head fall over the edge of the bed. He looks silly from this angle. Upside-down.
That question nearly makes Mike drop his tools. Were you serious?
"Why? So you can laugh me off again?"
Ouch. It was true you'd turned him down the last time he'd tried it, but that was six months ago.
"Maybe if you used those big brown puppy eyes of yours on me."
That only earns you a grunt, so you verbally prod him again.
"Besides, why can't I do both? Laugh at you, then take you back? Sounds fun."
"Pfft. Fun? To toy with me? You'd probably break up with me all over again just for shits and giggles." He responds bitterly, still refusing to turn around.
"Mikey. Look at me." You roll back over onto your stomach and rest your chin in your hands as he slowly meets your gaze.
"I didn't break up with you just for shits and giggles. You know that. I'm not letting you sit there and wallow in self-pity."
Mike goes stiff from your words, but your tone is soft, and your eyes even softer. You're still giving him that adoring look. Damn it.
"Well maybe I'd rather wallow in self pity than admit you were right all along."
"You've had six months to wallow. Grow a pair and come kiss me."
He can't say no to that. Not when you look at him that way. He shuffles over, kneeling by the side of your bed. On his knees for you again, damnit.
You kiss him. It's different from the lustful, sloppy kiss you shared last time. This one makes you feel warm. You kiss him again. And again.
Mike really doesn't want this to end, but the knot in his stomach forces him to pull away. He has to ask.
"Why? Why are you doing this, I mean? Do you really want... to take me back?" He sputters, looking down at the floor.
"I'm not completely sure yet." You answer honestly, shifting and lying back on the bed.
Damn. That's not the answer he wanted to hear.
"Are you-"
"Come here."
When you pat the spot next to you in bed, Mike melts. He's a wreck right now, but still wants nothing more than to be with you, in every sense of the word. He silently complies.
"It's not about right and wrong, you know. As much as I love being told I'm right." You give him a soft smile, breaking the silence and placing your hand on top of his as you both lie on your sides.
Damn it. He'd done this with you before, this and so much more. Why was such a small touch turning him to goo?
"What isn't?"
"The breakup. It's about growing as a person. As people. Both of us." You lace your fingers with his, and can't help but laugh as his face reaches a level of pink you've never seen before.
"And what exactly am I supposed to be growing out of?"
"Pfft. I don't know, the emotional unavailability? The way you never made time for me? Constant irritability?" You start to dramatically list off his flaws, using your free hand to count on your fingers.
"Okay, okay. I get it." He huffs, and grabs your hand before you can make fun of him more. Instead, he guides it to his side, pulling you in a little closer.
"And you're miss perfect?"
"No. 'Course not. I have flaws too." You give him a sly smile, and start listing your own "faults".
"Too hot and sexy, too intelligent, too kind, amazing, sweet and caring..."
That's as far as you get before Mike scoots closer, burying his face in your neck and giving you a playful nip.
"Too arrogant." He adds with a laugh, wrapping his arm around you and letting himself melt further into you.
"My arrogance is one of my best qualities, thank you." You reply haughtily, sliding your hand up his back and into his hair.
Mike couldn't speak, even if he could somehow find the right words to say. Everything in this moment felt so right. His arm around you. Your fingers in his hair. He lets out a soft groan instead.
You aren't exactly eager to let go of this moment either, and just hold him for a few minutes. It feels nice to play with his soft brown curls.
"I'll do better. Please." He finally mumbles something to you, not bothering to move his face from where it's buried in the crook of your neck.
"Please what, Mikey?"
"Take me back."
He finally pulls back, just enough to give you a glimpse of those puppy eyes of his. Damn it. How could you even think of saying no?
"Yeah. Okay."
You both lean in for another round of soft passionate kisses, and Mike feels himself relax completely. His stomach unknots and his mind goes numb. For the first time in months, he feels completely safe.
・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・・・・・・○・
"So does this mean you'll babysit for me again?"
"Go finish the shelf, Schmidt."
"Yes, Princess."
─────────────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────────────────
♡ Epilogue ♡
Over the past few weeks, you and Mike had fallen into a sort of rhythm.
He never did end up finding a new babysitter, and besides, you're the only one who could ever get Abby to finish her dinner. You had to graduate her from daily witching lessons to weekly ones, though, convincing her she needed to study for the more advanced spells. Secretly, Mike was just losing track of which objects in his house were supposedly invisible. It was quite amusing to watch.
Mike's favorite part of the day was coming home to you already asleep in his bed, and waking you up with a kiss. He'd then either lie down in bed while you shower, or hop in there with you, depending on how you felt. Either way, he loved the view.
The conflicting schedules made things complicated, but you were able to work around it. Mike slept better with you holding him, and consequentially, was a lot more agreeable. He did his best to make more time for both you and Abby.
He even started to open up to you for once, letting you take on some of his burdens. This man sure had a lot of guilt. You were certain he hadn't yet told you everything, but he told you enough. At least you finally knew what the fucking NEBRASKA poster on the ceiling was for. Now you kind of felt bad for all the times you teased him about it the first time you dated.
As for the damn shelf... well, he finished it. It was still hideous, but it was functional. There were holes in it from the nails, and the wood had even started to splinter in a few spots. You couldn't bring yourself to get rid of it, though. Not after how much work you both put into it. Even if most of Mike's work revolved around un-doing yours.
It definitely wasn't a perfect relationship, not by far. But Mike never promised to be the perfect boyfriend. He just promised to be better.
And he was, bit by bit, every day. Better. ♡

Limitless power for you
Tumblr media
Paring: curse Gojo x fem reader (human)
Warnings: Slight Yandere, depression, death
Tumblr media
"Satoru please... Come back to me..." you murmured as you curled up in the pillow.
The days without him passed inexorably.
Especially after you found out your Satoru died.
Your life was less important than his. Then why did he die instead of you??
Why did he go somewhere without telling you where.
And then you found out that your beloved boyfriend died...
Someone killed him? Or something?
You couldn't find out. You were an ordinary man.
His superiors judged you for not being a sorcerer. They even threatened you. They blamed you for being the cause of Gojo Satoru's death. The strongest sorcerer.
Even though you can admit they were almost happy in some way.
At last, whoever was breaking their rules so much is now gone.
And they don't have to deal with it.
There will be someone else to replace him. Someone else special grade.
Besides, he was blamed by other superiors. Because it was after his birth that more and more powerful curses began to appear. Just to keep the balance of power.
So now, when an even stronger curse appears, who could save the world?
You wondered why you didn't live in your house.
Why did you run away to your apartment?
Maybe it's because everything in your house reminds you that he was with you.
Here you see everything related to it. Your shared moments.
But unfortunately. You have to move out of here tomorrow.
Tonight is the last night you can sleep here. There are other people who rented this apartment instead of you.
You had until the end of the month. Today is the last day.
Tomorrow others are coming to live here instead of you.
You must leave the house tomorrow morning. And you won't be able to come back here again.
You have another house. Your beloved house where you live with Satoru.
But he's not there anymore...
All your stuff is there.
But you were too afraid to be there.
Too much.
The house is so sad and quiet without him.
How are you supposed to live there in such a big house all by yourself?
It will be a terrible feeling of loneliness.
You don't want anyone else. You just want your Satoru.
You want him to come back to you.
All your stuff is there.
But you'd rather sleep here with no covers and nothing to take than to sleep in a cold bed without Satoru.
Tomorrow you will have to face this cold. With loneliness in bed.
"Toru... Why did you leave me...?" you groaned, crying into the sleeve of your sweatshirt.
You hoped to at least fall asleep.
"I didn't leave you at all. I'm here with you. And now... I always will. It's sad that you don't even know that I'm looking at you..."
He sighed. But then a crazy smile appeared on his lips.
"Now you'll be mine forever... I'll never be defeated again, and you'll be mine forever... Come home... And then you won't leave, baby~ we'll always be together~"
You must have left the house before the new owners came.
The only thing you know about them is that they are two guys who rent the apartment that used to be yours to be closer to school and work. students...
Before anyone came, you left there. Leaving everything as it was supposed to be from the beginning. Empty.
You went back to your home.
To even more empty space.
So cold and lifeless...
Is it worth living without Him at all?
Your dreams that night told you that you would be cursed.
That's how Satoru described it to you.
That when you're cursed, you'll even dream of curses.
You hate the feeling of being watched. And now you feel it even more. It's such a bad feeling...
Your dream...
Your dream was about something like that.
You were standing in the dark.
Eyes floated around you, watching your every move.
You also heard a strange giggle.
You really hate having nightmares...
Especially those.
You felt like someone was about to catch you. However, there was no murderous aura.
Nobody wanted to kill you.
And then the eyes flying around you got bigger. Six eyes that surrounded you.
Blue, beautiful eyes.
They all looked as if they were made of the most beautiful crystal.
And the color was the same as Satoru's eyes...
You felt warm. You didn't feel scared. You felt the way you always did with him.
You felt that he, even after his death, watches over you.
Like a real angel.
But he wasn't really an angel.
He was closest to a demon, and he wasn't quite going to the grave just yet. Or not at all.
Because he will never lose again. Because when he lost, he lost the ability to hug you.
And now, he will never let you be alone again.
What sorcerer could defeat a curse above special grade?
When he came out of his body, he felt so good. As if nothing was stopping him at all.
And it really was. Nothing limited him.
His energy was endless. He was immortal. He could do what he wanted.
Because nothing enslaved him anymore.
He had no rules to follow.
He didn't have to listen to anyone.
He didn't have to work for anyone, he didn't have to protect people even at the cost of his own happiness and life.
He could finally do whatever he wanted.
He didn't even remember what it was that kept him attached to the human body.
Ah...
You always held him. And he wanted you to keep holding him like that.
You kept him happy as long as you were with him... His happiness, his love...
So he will take what is important to him with him...
It will hold it even tighter. And he won't let anything take that away from him.
As a curse, he had no limits.
There wasn't even a chance that any sorcerer would defeat him. Even an entire army.
He saw everything. His energy was endless. He could control the universe. Every particle.
Instead of just knocking you unconscious like he did to you last night so you could sleep, he could enter a human sleep. To the human mind. Which he never wanted to do to you.
He could practically destroy the whole world with one move. Without any effort.
But why won't he?
Because you linger in his heart.
And you must have a place to live.
Since he can do so much now, he will find a way to make you immortal.
And you can live together forever.
What he received only increased his love for you.
He already had everything. He just needed someone to be with him.
He could kill curses. He could do what he wanted with people. Because he wasn't the same man anymore.
Nothing was stopping him.
All he wanted was that you thought you'd be his forever.
Nothing will happen to you. You will always be safe and happy.
He can materialize his body. So he can be like a man. Everyone will see it.
That's why it means you won't feel alone.
Mastery over the smallest particle and atom makes him create a body for himself. He's like a human. Everyone will see it. You will feel it.
He doesn't have the body of a cursed spirit.
He is a curse on a divine level.
He believed it most that the strongest creature of the universes could not win against him.
His domain, his innate techniques. That's all it was. Probably so powerful that it's too much.
Because his mere play with small skills was so powerful to do something no one had ever been able to do before.
For your safety, it's better to live with the world at peace. So nothing that can hurt you.
And he might have been hurt by your leaving.
In your dream, he wanted to show himself so much.
Hug you.
But he wanted to leave you a surprise. To meet his body. So you can really touch him.
He looks almost the same as before. His human form.
It's all because he absorbed parts of his human body from the morgue.
Has anyone noticed? No.
The illusion created with his techniques worked perfectly.
It was enough to use the energy of his body.
Only to sit in the same body as always at home.
Waiting for you with a cup of sweet coffee in hand.
He was like a man. Even if it wasn't.
He could live normally. And no one could see that his humanity was over.
He was just waiting for you to come home.
And he was waiting for your cry of happiness.
When you entered the house your eyes were red from all the crying you were hiding under the hood of your sweatshirt.
You left in the morning, so you avoided unnecessary crowds.
And you also disinfected from the bus ride. You just paid for a taxi.
When the taxi driver asked why you were crying, all you could say was that you lost someone really important.
He wasn't mean enough to read your mind, or even try to.
He didn't want to test his skills on you.
What if one of them gets you hurt? Or worse...?
He knew exactly that you were crying. But he couldn't do anything about it while you were away.
When you see it, you will surely be happy.
He was excited when you grabbed the doorknob.
He turned towards the door as he sat in the chair.
His sunglasses on his nose.
His eyesight is now even sharper and more sensitive.
He saw you in the dark of the night when you were sleeping. He saw everything. He hugged you lightly as you slept.
So he could see you in a whole crowd of people from afar.
As you closed the door, tears flowed again.
You've come back to the emptiest house imaginable.
Without him, this house has no life...
Before you turned around, you rested your head against the closed door, crying loudly.
After all, no one will hear you here.
Nobody will comfort you...
Or so you thought.
When he saw your despair, he really thought that he could show himself to you right after he came back.
Because now you're a mess.
All your emotions... Your body.
you suffer.
He always tried to make you always remember him.
That's why it hurts so much right now.
Because you can't forget any of his smiles.
When you saw him at the funeral yesterday, he wasn't smiling.
He died the day before yesterday.
Yesterday was his funeral.
He had no family.
The people who came were his students, his former teacher, and his friends with whom he worked. And you.
The person who grieved the most was you.
You couldn't really calm down. Your heart ached.
You didn't know that right after the coffin was closed, his body disappeared. Like an illusion.
And the real Satoru was sitting nearby, disguised as a cursed spirit, even if he had a body. He just turned invisible.
He very much wanted to appear for all of you and make you not cry and not be sad. Especially you, who got the strongest sedatives from Shoko, but you still couldn't stop grieving.
All his smiles mingled with his pale, cold face you saw.
Now, if you remember all this, it's such an awfully painful feeling...
You turned around when you heard movement.
You looked up to see the man in front of you. Tall, white hair.
This is supposed to be your Satoru.
"Honey..." he called out.
"Toru..." you groaned with your eyes wide open.
You had dreams...
More tears flowed from your eyes.
What is in front of you now is your Satoru... And all you can see in your mind is his dead body...
You hate your mind.
Why is he giving you a clear picture of him as if he hadn't died?
Don't you suffer enough?
With a silent cry, you whispered denials to yourself. And the eyes were waterfalls of tears.
You immediately fell to your knees, curling up on the floor.
"Why.. Why are you doing this to me..." you groaned. "Just kill me already..."
He widened his eyes at what you said.
You really don't think he's standing here in front of you.
You think you're just hallucinating...
Do you really want to die?
He quickly walked over to you and wrapped his arms around your body.
"I'm here, baby." He said softly. His voice almost broke. He hated hearing you cry. He hated hearing you say you wanted to die.
He'd heard too much in a few days.
"...I don't want to live without you...! Satoru, take me out of this world! I don't want to live without you with me...!"
His hands wrapped tighter around you.
"I'm sorry I'm going to do this..."
"No! Don't leave me! I don't want to –"
Suddenly he pressed his lips to your forehead, erasing your memories. From now until the moment before his death.
He will have to do the same with the others. With all Jujutsu society. To make them think he was always alive.
Only some will be able to know that he is a curse.
Because his superiors wanted to charge you with his murder, he should kill them.
"How fast do you think I could kill all my superiors now? They wanted to hurt you... So I can hurt them. Therefore, I have infinite power. I have this for you..." He said as your brain was momentarily clouded after erasing those memories. "So come back to me as you've always been... Smile at me. I will never leave you again. Even for a moment."
"Satoru? Are you home yet?" You asked, snuggling into his chest.
He has yet to instill in you the awareness that he is no longer human.
And it won't be difficult. Because you love him no matter who he is.
Hiding it will be easy.
When using cursed energy, his sclera turns black and his eyes glow more. However, he can always wear something to hide his eyes.
You can see his face always.
And only you can see its true form.
"Honey, I'm a curse." he said hugging you.
"But you're the same..." you moaned snuggling into his chest.
"I am. I just need to show you something. I know you can keep a secret. I know because you are wonderful. You're so perfect. Only you can see it. The way I was reborn."
"I love you. I missed you." You said, kissing his jaw. "Are you okay? Are you comfortable with... You're not human? Is something hurting you? How did this happen...?"
"I'm fine. Too fine. It's perfect. Now I can find a way to give you eternal life as well. And we'll be together forever."
"It's not possible... I wish I could be with you forever. But this... How can I help you?"
"I want to be a curse. I have a human body. You do not feel? My heart is beating. It beats for you. Only for you. I live because I wanted to live with you. I just absorbed the energy after death. The fact that you missed me gave me a chance to come back. To continue to live with you, I chose this. And now... Now we can be together forever."
"Toru..."
"I love you... Now look at me. And promise me you won't be afraid."
You knew his body had changed somehow. Increased a little. But it was still your Satoru.
He's back from a mission. As a curse. But it's your Satoru.
He looks the same. He's the same.
You looked at him as he pushed you away.
His white hair was the same. The shape of his face.
He was a humanoid curse.
His eyes were very shining. Black scleras. But just as beautiful blue. Like a crystal. The color was a bit sharper.
Another one opened under his eyes. On the cheeks. And also on his forehead.
When he smiled, you saw sharp fangs.
On his neck, a black vertical Japanese inscription - 無限 - Mugen - Infinite.
On the right forearm - 無制限 - Museigen - Unlimited.
On the left forearm - 無敵 - Muteki - Invincible.
His plain black T-shirt seemed a little tighter across his chest and arms.
He was beautiful.
"Aren't you afraid?" he asked calmly.
"No." You responded by placing your hands on his cheeks. Watching out for his extra pair of eyes.
He smiled, taking your hands.
Then suddenly you saw his extra eyes disappear.
"But I honestly prefer it. More places on your face where you can kiss me." He said.
You giggled softly and kissed his cheek.
"I'll show you something else."
You saw a black circle appear behind his back, which seemed to show the stars. And six big eyes popped out of it.
Around the largest eyes circled six smaller eyes. Each eye had another six. And each smaller eye had six more around it, which were the size of human eyes.
You thought those eyeballs were made of crystal, but they weren't real. And so it was.
They were all beautifully blue.
"Do not try to look into the pupil when they are shining. You remember how my domain works, right?" he said bringing your eyes to him. "When you look in the middle of the eye when they shine more and seem to sparkle with the stars, they cause the same thing as my domain. I've tested it on curses I've encountered."
Why was he so beautiful. But if you met him and he wanted to kill you, you'd be scared.
Surely.
But he will never hurt you.
"Say you love my eyes please. I always love hearing your voice, mochi~."
"Must I?" You laughed with a small blush.
You don't want to increase his ego.
"I know you love my eyes." He said laying his head on your breasts as he looked into your eyes.
His black sclera contrast nicely with his skin, hair and eyelashes.
You ran your hands over his throat. After the inscription 無限 (Mugen). Enjoying the warmth of his skin.
"I love you." He said purring.
Then his body shrunk slightly, the marks on his body disappeared. His sclera turned white. But the crystal blue was the same.
The eyes behind him evaporated. And you stayed with him as if he was still human. But he is not.
Now he can do more. You can. You can live together as you like.
And no one will ever threaten you.

Tumblr media
Thanks to Ortho's genius mind and Mickey's help they manage to connect the mirror in Ramschackle Dorm to your world. Ace, Deuce , Grim , Epel and Jack were all there when Ortho had announced that he and Mickey finally finished Yuu's way back home. All of them are happy for Yuu, happy that their friend who's from another world is finally able to go back home , home a place where they used to belong , a place that's not Twisted wonderland. But despite the happiness they felt for their friend they cant help but feel a sense of sadness unto their chest as the realization hits them like a brick, this is it Yuu is going back to their world meaning there will be no one who will stop the braincell trio from doing anymore shenigans and will save them from getting in trouble with their housewarden.
This is not what they expected to hear as soon as Yuu along with Ortho had called them to meet at Ramshackle Dorm, sure they expect that it must've been about meeting Mickey along with the clues about the other world but not this!, it's not what they have in mind it might sound selfish but they really wanted Yuu to stay at Twisted Wonderland with them and they all will graduate in NRC and Yuu will be there to capture the moment when finally all reached to their goals and dreams and someday in the future after they graduate they all will have their little meet ups, talking about their daily lives and looking back to the times where they all cause troubles left and right during their school days and all of them will be support Yuu when they finally decided to confessed their feelings to a certain dragon and they will all be watching Yuu walking down the aisle as they get married to the love of their life. That's the future they all imagine, a future on whereas they all had reached their happy ending.
But.... looking at the situation they're all currently in , they doubt that any of it will happen considering Yuu is going back home, sure it might still happen to some of them but it will never be the same without Yuu.
"Wahh, We finally finished it!" Ortho happily said
"Yeah, thanks to your genius mind and with Mickey's help Prefect can finally go back to their world" Deuce stated as he smiled but his smile didn't reached his eyes.
"Agreed" Epel and Jack said in unison
"So... you're finally going back home huh" Ace said with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"Not that im going miss you or anything" he quickly added as he wiggle his hands in front of him.
"Yeah sure, what ever helps you sleep at night man" Epel said to Ace
"Huh?! The hell you mean by that?!" Ace Argued
As Epel were about to retort back another voice had beat him to it.
"If you go home, what will happen to me? Will I still be able yo stay here or will I be kick out once you're gone?" Grim said as he looks down on the floor below him with his ears down.
Silence had filled the room as soon as Grim said/ask those words Epel and Ace stops in their tracks and look at him.
"[Ahh that's right Prefect and Grim are counted as one student so there's a possiblity that grim might get kick out since he's not a qualified student]" They all thought as they all give Grim a look of sadness and pity.
Much to their suprise the silence that had engulf the room was replace by a sound of laughter that had come from the Prefect
"HUH?! Why are you laughing?!" Ace Said
"Yeah!!, what's so damn funny huh henchman?!, im here being all sad that you're leaving and thinking about my possible future and yet you're laughing?!" Grim angrily said as he uses his paws to punch your legs.
"Im sorry you guys, it's just pfftt AHAHAEHFUWODJE" Yuu said between laughter while wiping the tears in their eyes. Once you finally stop laughing and started to compose yourself you turned to them.
"So mind telling us why you suddenly laughing?" Ace asked
"It's just that did you all really think that I'm going back home?" Yuu said as they look at them seriously
"HUH?!/EH?!"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT GOING BACK HOME?!" Ace said while waving his hands in frentzy manner
"Yeah! I agree what do you mean by that? And what about Ortho and Mickey's hard work?!" Deuce added
"Jeez you guys one question at a time" Yuu said.
"Okay, First of all im not going back home because even if i did go back it's not certain whether the people i used to know before being send here is still alive" Yuu added
"Eh? What's that supposed to mean?" Epel Asked
"I mean, who knows? Maybe the time between Twisted Wonderland and My world goes differently like for example what if 2 months pass by here and 5 years had passed since then in my world? Think of it like astronaut who spent 3 months in space and when they go back to land a lot of years had pass" Yuu answered as they shrugged their shoulders.
"Well they do have a point" Jack said, agreeing to what Yuu had said.
"Besides I'm not the type of person who breaks their promise" Yuu added
"And to answer your question on my hard work being wasted , it wasn't wasted because there was never a way to go back home for Yuu" Ortho said as he flew to them
"Huh? Wait what?!"
"No.." Epel said
"Way.." Deuce continue
"HOME?!" Ace yelled
"Ffgna?! What do you mean by that Ortho?!" Grim added
"It's just as what Ortho had said , there was never a way back home for me" Yuu said while chuckling to their self as they look at their friends' faces
"Yup that's right , no matter how hard we work to find a way we can't really find what we're looking for until we finally had come to conclusion that there was never really a way back home for them" Ortho explained
"And besides even if Ortho and Mickey did found a way back home for me , I'm still staying here because i have found my futute here in Twisted Wonderland And that Future is with you guys, I would loce to spend every single moment i have here in this world alongside you" Yuu said as they smiled at their friends in front of them.
*sniffs* *hic* "Ffgnah!! Stop it henchman! How dare you make the Great Grim cry!!!" Grim cried out as he punch your leg with his paws but immediately stops and hugged your leg using your pants to wipe aways his tears.
"I..I agree!! Yer making me lose my cool ya know?!" Epel added as he too aggressively wiped away his tears.
"Im...Im so happy that you're staying here with us Prefect" Deuce stated as tears slowly form in his eyes
"Oh come on now Deuce what do you take me for? Someone aho break their promise?"
"Huh?" Deuce asked confuse about what Yuu is implying
Yuu sighed before replying to their confuse friend ,
"I made a promise didn't I? I promise that I'll be there when you finally get your badge the day you become a police officer" Yuu said while smiling at Deuce
Deuce softly chuckles and being glad that Yuu still remembered there conversation back when he was assign as a stargazer,
"Ahh so you still remember it huh..." Deuce said while giving Yuu a close eyed smile.
"Well don't worry!, I'll make sure to graduate here in NRC as a Honor student and get that badge so i can proudly show if off to you and Mom , so you guys can smile at me and think of how far I've come" he quickly added with a proud look on his face and very determined to keep his word.
Though the wholesome moment was ruin by a certain red hair
"Pfft you should probably study for the upcoming exams before saying that besides with the way how your grades are doing I doubt that" Ace said while laughing
Jack sighs and the shook his head in disappointment at Ace "You really know how to ruin the mood dont you" he said as he watches the scene unfolds already knowing that somethings' about to go down.
Deuce' mood mmediately switches after hearing Ace' comment about his grades
"HUH?! IF YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY, SAY IT TO MY FACE" Deuce argued , "Besides you can't be the one talking when you got yourself a 3 hour lecture from Housewarden Riddle after he found out that you failed your history exam!!" Deuce added , and somehow the words that left Deuce mouth irked Ace
"Huh?! You're making that up!! That never happen!" Ace Argued back
The two keep arguing while the others just watch in amusement and some in disappointment (Jack)
"And.... there they go again , seriously everytime those two argue they look like a kids who's figjting over a small piece of candy" Yuu said as they watched their friend argue like little kids
"Ha.. i guess somethings never change huh" Epel said as he chuckles
"You know what? Let's just end this , it's pointless arguing with an idiot" Ace said as he shook his head
"THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY?" Deuce argued once again
"You guys that's enough and calm down" Ortho said as he tried to break the fight between two idiots
"Hmmph agreed you two are making a mess to our dorm" Grim said
Ace and Deuce look at each other before sighing to their selves
"Fine" they said in unison
"Anyways let's get back to what we came here for, let's go back to the fact that Yuu is staying here with us" Jack said breaking the atmosphere created by two idiots
"I.. I still can't believe that you're staying here with us Yuu" - Epel
"Heh im glad your staying here henchman it will be a pain to find another henchman if you go" Grim said as if he didn't just had a break down when he found out that his 'henchman' is "leaving".
"Well , what are you guys waiting for? This moment calls a Group hug!" Yuu happily said as they open their arms ready for group hug
All of them except Jack quickly rushed to Yuu's side to hug them
"What about you Jack? Aren't you going to join us too?" Ortho asked
"Im not really used to those kind of things" Jack answered
"Oh please don't be like that this is a happy moment" Yuu said as they extend their hand to Jack
"Ugh fine" Jack groaned before joining the hug
The seven friends continue hugged each other as if it's the last time they'll all see each other (quite literally if Ortho and Mickey *did* find a way and if Yuu decided to leave TW).
Bonus:
"You know... since you're staying here might as well confess your feelings to Draconia-senpai y'know?" Ace said
"HUH?! SHUT UP ACE! I DONT HAVE ANY FEELINGS FOR TSUNOTARO!" Yuu protests (they actually had feeling for malleus , they only deny it cause once Ace heard it from them confirming that they indeed held feeling for their horned friend , Ace wouldn't shut up about it and will keep teasing them until they eventually confess )
"Yeah , yeah whatever helps you sleep at night" Ace said while having his teasing grin, "Besides it's so obvious that you have feeling for him y'know no need to hide it hehe" he added
"Continue with that nonsense and I'll tell Riddle that you ate a tart that's meant for the unbirthday party again" Yuu said while smirking at him as they watch Ace face turn pale
"Okay okay i take it back you dont have any feelings for him and that he's only a friend, there HAPPY?!" Ace said
"Even though i know you have feelings for him , i won't tease you about it anymore just don't tell the housewarden about the tart i don't want to be collared again" Ace added
"Good, and yes i won't tell him about the tart but i will tell him about how you failed the history exam.... again" Yuu said while grinning evilly at Ace
"WHAT THE- YOU'RE SO EVIL"
The End♡
Im so sorry if some of the characters are ooc but i hope you enjoyed it!!💓💓
I made this to keep myself busy since i have nothing else to do

"It's over..." - Neuvillette
Gender neutral reader, angst here. This is basically an idea I had where the reader and him have an argument (reader is the one at fault for the argument, and they are going along to apologise), and they misinterpret the situation.
--
Neuvillette had been in a bad mood recently.
During an argument he had with you once he got to your home, you asking him why he never came along, it escalated. You shouted at him when he didn't understand it made you feel like he didn't think of this as a committed relationship, especially since he never told you were he would go after work. Neuvilette genuinely had no idea why this argument was happening, and he explained to you calmly that he simply was not one that could be around humans for long. After you ask him why humans are so horrible to him, he sheepishly divulges a small yet vital detail.
"The Melusines...In the past, they have been treated horrendously by humans." Neuvillette states, walking towards the door.
"Humans like me? You think I would harm a Melusine because of the fact I do not look like one?" You huff, Neuvillette closing the door as you finish your outburst before the regret settles in. Falling to the ground, you think through what could possibly cause your boyfriend to be distant from humans.
It's then you realise that actually, he was within his right to feel a distaste of sorts for humans, perhaps until relatively recently. The way you heard your grandparents talk down to those 'Disgusting leaches' - something you always actively scolded them for, even in public - lined up with how Melusines were treated in the past.
But...
Why would Neuvillette humour a relationship with you? Was he simply wanting to stop those advances from other people? Maybe it was because you treated the Melusines especially kindly, and he felt like you were a parent of sorts to them.
Enough about the reason you were together, however. You recognise that Neuvillette was keeping his guard up the moment you started shouting at him (a human reaction to an argument starting, you suppose). He didn't feel safe with you in that moment, and the fact you went past logic to snap back at him with emotion?
You felt awful.
--
The next few days, you tried to get a meeting with your boyfriend to discuss more calmly why he never wanted to be in your home, and the fact he happened to be late (in hindsight, that was very obviously for work obligations). No luck there, you had to keep an eye out for when you'd next see him.
When the rain stopped a week after the argument was conveniently when you were right behind a wall, hearing two familiar voices.
Neuvillette and Wriothesley.
It was rare to see Wriothesley, however you weren't complaining. He was always lovely with you - when people started talking poorly, you would find he would be sending letters to both yourself and Neuvillette telling the both of you that Neuvillettes personal life was none of their business.
Hiding behind the wall, you hope to let the duo finish the conversation before talking to your boyfriend.
"It's over." You hear your boyfriend sigh out, seemingly relieved.
Your face drops, your hand shaking as you hold it up to your chest. Neuvillette must have been talking about your relationship with Wriothesley, and this must have been him making sure this was the correct move forward.
Letting out a choked sob, you run home.
--
"What's over?" Wriothesley asks, hand on his hip as he hears your sob.
"The weather, it's no longer raining." Neuvillette explains, placing his hand back by his side.
"...Are you sure that's all that's over?" Wriothesley tuts.
"Yes. Why, has something happened?" Neuvillette asks, Wriothesley shaking his head.
"I think your significant other has just heard you saying 'it's over' with no other context." Wriothesley States, Neuvillette tilting his head. "I have heard them run away crying after you said that."
"I don't intend on ending the relationship. I told you, did I not?" Neuvillette starts, stopping when he realises you have misunderstood.
"Yuup." Wriothesley sighs, the sky already getting cloudy. "Go, talk to them and clear it up. I'll come with you, and I'll help if I can."
--
Upon returning home, you realise that Neuvillette has moved on - something you have not. Locking the door, you decide to sort through the gifts Neuvilette gave you, boxing them up before you could get too sentimental about them. Placing them to the side, you make a mental note to address this to his office under your name so he knows it's the gifts he gave you over the months of you dating.
Halfway through the process, you hear the door knocking.
"Dear, are you in?" Neuvillette calls out, you wincing at the understanding this would be him calling it quits.
"One moment!" You call out, rushing to get the other gifts into another box before placing them onto your kitchen table. At least if you could hand these returned gifts to him, this would stop you from asking 'was the package delivered'.
"Come i- Oh, hi Wriothesley." You smile halfheartedly, Wriothesley bumping Neuvillette to get a move on.
"I-I've packaged the gifts you gifted me over the months of us dating. I know it isn't much to you, but these months have been my happiest." You whimper out, embarrassed at your sudden child-like words. "Don't worry about returning the gifts I gave you - you can do what you want with them."
"Sweetheart, please take a seat." Neuvillette starts, you reluctantly doing so to get this over with.
"I don't want to end what we have." Neuvillette bursts out, silence hitting the room hard.
"..."
"..."
"Oh! I forgot you only agreed to this so others would stop approaching you... I suppose I can-"
"Stop it." Neuvillette grasps your hands. "I would not consider a relationship for my own sake, not if it wasn't something I would like for myself." He kisses the back of your hands before continuing. "I was commenting on the rain, that's what you walked in on. I was not thinking about breaking up with you, and if I was - I would approach you, not a friend of mine."
You tear up, embarrassed at the idea that you confused his comment on the weather for a possible break up.
"Don't worry, the idiot was talking about the weather." Wriothesley chuckles, Neuvillette glaring at him before pulling you closer. Wriothesley leaves, letting the both of you talk alone.
--
"Please, lay down with me." Neuvillette pleads, holding you comfortingly as he eases the both of you down. "I was upset by the argument, but the reason was not specifically from you.
"...But I was the one that caused it. I was the one shouting at you, I was the one not being reasonable, and you were right to walk away in that moment." You retort, Stopping your boyfriend from possibly blaming himself for your actions.
"That may be true, but I have not been honest about my age with you." Neuvillette admits, feeling you look up at him. "400 years ago, a dear Melusine was framed by humans who didn't think highly of her. I lost two dear individuals I trusted for that incident, and I have been distancing myself from humans since. As small as your actions were, you treating the Melusines that you saw without being rude, nor expecting payment, was a significant part of my interest in you."
"I had my suspicions.." You start out. "Can I ask you a question? In this relationship, have you learned more about me?" You ask, leaning into his chest as you embrace him.
"I know you've been dropping off lunch boxes with my name on them. I believe the Melusines receive a fair amount, however yours is always the one I expect and enjoy." Neuvillette chuckles.
"But what ab- oh." You let out, realising other people have worked towards cooking for your boyfriend. "...the Melusines trust me?" You ask, happiness leaking through when you ask him with teary eyes.
"Of course. They trust you, and I can trust you." Neuvillette explains.
"I love the Melusines as a parent - despite not being related to them - however I fear this is the only reason you date me." You hesitate, your boyfriend letting out a chuckle before he kisses the top of your head.
"There are not enough words to describe my love for you." Neuvillette starts, placing you below him before placing a hand beside your head. "...How about I show you myself?"

afraid of love
Tumblr media
Exhausted from the intensity of the night before, you sank into the comforting embrace of your fluffy bed. But even in the tranquility of your room, your mind raced with memories of Eun Woo.
Did he make it so Seoul already?
Images of last night flooded your consciousness like a vivid, intoxicating dream.
Heated kisses on every inch of your body ignited a fire within you, each touch sending shivers down your spine and leaving you breathless with desire. Eun Woo's lips, soft and insistent, traced a path of passion across your skin.
His dark, brown eyes seemed to peer into the depths of your soul, stripping away all pretense and laying bare the raw, unfiltered emotions that lay hidden within. In those moments, it felt as though you were the only two people in the world, lost in a shared intimacy that transcended words.
Your bodies intertwined for hours, moving together in a dance of ecstasy and longing. Every touch was a symphony of pleasure that left you both gasping for breath.
Dirty promises were whispered into your ear, each word sending a jolt of electricity coursing through your veins. In the darkness of the night, with only the sound of your ragged breaths to fill the silence, you reveled in the shared intimacy of your whispered confessions, each promise a testament to the passion that burned between you.
As the night wore on, you both became a canvas for each other's desires, covering each other in colorful marks that served as a physical reminder of the passion that had ignited between you.
And as sleep finally claimed you both, you drifted off in his strong embrace, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat lulling you into a peaceful slumber. In that moment, wrapped in each other's arms, you knew that you had found something special, a connection that transcended the physical and reached deep into the depths of your soul.
Adrenaline flooded your system as you thought off all the things you did last night.
Or three nights prior to that. You matched on a random Sunday, after being abstinent from dating for a long time. Eun Woo was in town only for a couple of days for a video shoot but that didn’t stop him from having a good time.
He had been single for years after having his heart shattered by his first love. Ever since, he toyed with women as he pleased.
The first date was spent in his apartment, eating, and talking, cuddling, and fucking.
He was a passionate lover, even though he was starving for love and affection. The second date was a spontaneous invitation late at night, after all his mandatory meetings had been dealt with.
You repeated the first date’s actions but this time it felt more familiar, already knowing what you liked and needed. Eun Woo gave you his all, adoring you in every way he could.
Until he had to leave.
You remembered the sound of his alarm clock this morning, way too early and too sudden. He shifted in his sleep, groaning as he did not want to leave you.
Kisses on your neck were accompanied by his fingers entering you, sighing in appreciation. “God, you feel so fucking good, y/n.”
Minutes after he was gone, catching his plane back to Seoul. You put your fingers on your lips, looking for the traces he had left. The sudden vibration of your phone brought you back into the present moment.
I landed. Tired as fuck though. How are you?
Missing you.
You didn’t want to get your hopes up – after all he didn’t even live in the same country. This was nothing but a repeated one-night stand, right? You thought back to the conversation you had before falling asleep.
“Do you think there is a future for us?”
He caught you off guard with this question, making you panic to find the right words.
“That depends on how well you treat me, Eun Woo”, you mocked jokingly.
He broke into laughter, loving your sassy side.
“I will love the ground you walk on, my queen. How about that?”
You joined in on his laughter and turned to face him, staring into his beautiful eyes.
“Do you mean it?”
He nodded.
Did you really mean it, though?
Oh, good! Seoul has you back then 😉 Lying in bed and cuddling my plushie since you’re gone…
Did that sound stupid?
Your insecurities churned within you, suddenly you were hyper-aware of everything you said and did.
Haha
That’s it?
You felt sick to your stomach as you took that as confirmation. After all, you were right about him. He only used you for some fun during his trip. And now he’s back in his real life, in which you had no place in.
This was nothing but fun to him. Nothing but a repeated one-night stand.
Brrrr.
Brrrr.
Brrrrr.
What the fuck?
Barely awake you searched for your phone on your nightstand.
3:33 AM.
Who the fuck texts me at this hour?
You were instantly awake as you realized who it was.
Eun Woo.
I have no idea if you’re awake. You’re probably asleep. And I shouldn’t blow up your phone. But I can’t help myself.
Anxiety formed in your stomach.
What was that supposed to mean?
Are you okay?
It took him seconds to answer.
You’re awake? Did I wake you? I’m sorry.
You sat up in bed, anxiously typing your reply.
It’s alright. Why are you up? Everything okay?
You saw him type his reply for minutes, driving you crazy in your heightened state.
No. Nothing is okay. I can’t stop thinking about you.
You swore your heart skipped a beat.
Did I read that right?
I can’t stop thinking about you and it drives me crazy.
You gasped, trying to think of a reply.
You make it sound like it’s a bad thing…
Countless messages followed.
It is. Because you are not here with me. And I’m not there with you. I… I didn’t want to leave you this morning. I wanted to stay. With you, y/n. I really wanted to stay.
You pinched yourself, unsure if this was real.
Ouch.
Definitely real.
I know I sound crazy. Maybe I am. But I have fallen for you. HARD. The last hours I’ve thought about how I can manage to come back to your city. Or how I could persuade you to come visit me in Seoul. I almost popped a blood vessel thinking of ways. What did you do to me?
You chuckled. Relief washed over you, since he felt the same way you did.
I keep replaying last night over and over. How mesmerizing it felt to look into your beautiful eyes. How amazing it felt to kiss you. How mind-blowing it felt to be inside you. Oh god and speaking of blowing. The way your juicy lips wrapped around my cock? I’m losing my mind here, y/n. I’ve jerked off twice and still I couldn’t fall asleep. Or stop thinking about you. I’m a simp now, aren’t I? Look what you turned me into.
You were in shock.
Hours ago, you thought he would abandon you and go on with his life but here he was, confessing his desire for you. Making it obvious that he wants to continue this and get to know you better.
Now is the time to get my hopes up, right?
Do you want me to fly over?
You felt brave asking, believing in your chance at love for once.
Already checking flights, babe.
A broad smile formed on your lips.
I can’t believe this.
He is serious, isn’t he?
I can’t wait to be with you, y/n. I really fucking mean it. And that scares me the most.
You understood him perfectly, especially since the connection between you was so strong. This was nothing like you had ever encountered before. It scared you just as much, but you were willing to try.
Hey, uhm… Wanna be scared together?

‘Where are you? Everyone else is here already.’
‘Did you get stuck in traffic? Even Bill’s wife, the third one, who’s coming from a flight from Washington’s arrived. Reply me.’
‘Are you ignoring me?’
By the third undelivered text, Natasha had had enough. She quietly excused herself from the group of investors she had been speaking to, set her drink down, and headed to the balcony to call you. There was anger, a sense of betrayal even, and if she dared herself feel it, a twinge of worry for you standing her up, as well.
But she swallowed all those thoughts down, as the phone began to ring. It was connected, and rang once, twice, before the dial tone went dead and her call abruptly ended. She stared back at the dark screen of her phone, confusion written on her features, and sighed frustratedly. This was an important fundraising gala. This was where the company was finally going to accomplish the funds needed to build the new headquarters outside of the United States, and this was where she had wanted to show you off to the world.
You were her arm candy, her prize, but tonight…tonight you were missing from her arms.
Natasha struggled to force herself to endure the rest of the night without you by her side. All she had wanted to do was to come find you, to make sure that you were okay to berate you for standing her up, but instead she had to sit through another round of ribbon cuttings, expensive, tasteless champagnes, and meaningless small talk with the ultra wealthy just to rub shoulders even more. It was torture, and nothing could quell the worry anger in the back of her mind.
So when the clock finally struck eleven and the festivities had relatively died down, she was the first to leave the venue; ordering her chauffeur to drive straight to your apartment. The trip was silent, and even the elderly man could sense the tension radiating from his boss’ shoulders at that moment.
Bursting through your doors exactly half an hour later, Natasha saw the abandoned party gown she had picked out for you laid across your stained couch, along with the new heels she had bought still in the designer box she had bought them from, and she knew you never even bothered to actually come for the gala.
She screamed for your name, knocking down the doors to each room in the tiny apartment, making a mess with each step, but she didn’t care at that point. She was livid, and you had betrayed her.
But right before she could knock down the door to the final room, the one painted baby pink and with an engraved sign reading Lena’s Room, it had clicked open and you walked out, staring at her face-to-face while shutting the door behind you.
Natasha was breathing heavily, her fists curled. She was confident she looked almost insane by then; a complete switch from the composed, sophisticated CEO she was just nearly an hour before. But you looked her up and down, and showed no signs of fear, however. You simply sighed, and nodded back towards the room.
“She’s got an unrelenting fever. Been at it since midday, the sitter told me. When I got home, her forehead’s sizzling to the touch. I just got her to bed, Natasha.”
“You didn’t come for the gala.”
“How could I?” It was your turn to fold your arms, walking past her to the living room. She followed. “Lena was so sick, Nat. I couldn’t just leave her alone for the night.”
It was then that things took a turn for the worse. What you said ticked something in Natasha, something she simply could not let go for the remainder of the night as the two of you began arguing.
“You humiliated me! In front of everyone!” Natasha had yelled, hands outstretched and veins appearing on her neck, “I was the only one without a date there, the only one!”
“What was I supposed to do?” You retorted, “My phone was dead, and forgive me if I managed to miss out on it once, because I was busy taking care of my sick child!”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, you could’ve texted me!”
“It still wouldn’t have changed things!”
Natasha had moved two steps from the kitchen counter to the sofa, where you were seated, still in your nurse scrubs and hair tied in a bun. You looked absolutely exhausted, and the tone in your voice was well over the point of wanting to go on with the argument. Natasha knew the bags under your eyes had not only come from the numerous shifts at the hospital, but also the responsibility of taking care of a toddler all alone as well.
But she had gone too far now. She couldn’t back down. “You stood me up! You stood me up when you could’ve sent her to a friend, or called the sitter back to take care of her for just a few hours more, couldn’t you? Or did you never want to come to the gala to support me anyway?”
She saw you pinch the bridge of your nose, shaking your head. “Natasha…”
“Fuck, I bet the kid’s not even sick. She probably just wanted attention, and you so kindly spoil her with everything, of course she can manipulate you for this too!”
But at that point, small sniffles could be heard from the corner of the room, and the both of you looked up at the same time. Your daughter had apparently climbed out of bed, still hugging her stuffed animal, and at the sight of her staring up at the two of you, tears flowing down her face, Natasha felt a surge of guilt wash over what she had just said. Though she knew Lena probably could not grasp all of the words she had been saying, to see you immediately stand and scoop her up in your arms to get her away from Natasha was hurtful enough.
“Mama fight? With Aunty Nat?” Had been her exact words, to which you pressed your hand against her forehead and shushed her quietly to coax her back to sleep.
“No, sweetheart. We’re fine, Mama and Aunty Nat are fine. Let’s go back to bed, okay? Your fever’s still high.”
But Lena peeked through your arms to see Natasha, then up to your face, and Natasha caught her rubbing something from your face too. “Why Mama cry?”
Oh. That had done it. Natasha knew she was fucked, and she had hurt both you and your daughter with the way she had stormed in tonight and began accusing the both of you things that were never true. All because she was too headstrong to listen to anyone’s reasons but her own, all because she was too insecure and possessive over you.
“Darling,” Natasha began, but you stopped her, hand begging her not to follow the both of you to Lena’s room.
“Please, Natasha, just leave,” you said through broken sobs, readjusting Lena to hide your face from Natasha. “I’ll call you tomorrow morning, but please…leave.”
The slam of the front door just seconds later was enough indication to show off the redhead’s frustration and anger, but you were not sure if it was directed at you, or herself.
Two weeks later Natasha still received an invite to a play your daughter was in, handed to her by her secretary in the middle of a lunch meeting. She secretly opened it in front of her partners, and the sense of relief and joy that spread through her had her instantly itching to call you on the phone.
“Thanks, baby, for the invitation,” she said later on, while you were on a break of your own. She could hear the roaring ambulance sirens in the background, and knew you were on a time limit. “And I’m really sorry, still, for that night.”
“It’s fine, Nat,” you reassured her, voice tired as usual. It broke Natasha’s heart to always see you working harder than anyone and receiving so little in return, but as you had always reminded her, even at the beginning of your relationship, that you were never looking for help or money from her, and that you refused to accept such as well. “Lena said she misses you as well. She wants you to be there.”
It was hard for Natasha to imagine a child could have such feelings for her. She had never grown up with the love and affection of someone so much younger, someone who looked up to her almost like an idol, and whenever Lena leaned in for kisses or ran up to her for hugs, Natasha knew you always caught her stiffening; an involuntary reflex she hoped you would forgive her for.
But it had been almost two years since you and Natasha had been going out, and even the billionaire knew that you were not going to wait forever for someone who was not going to love Lena as much as you did.
So she swallowed her fears, and replied, “That’s nice. Tell her…I miss her too.”
She could feel you smiling from the other end. “Will do. I love you, Nat.”
“I love you too.”
The night of the play, with the both of you sat huddled in the dimly lit school theatre and watching Lena dance around as a sunflower with a group of other little flowers and animals, Natasha watched as your eyes lit up each time the spotlight came on your daughter, and how you would excitedly hold her hand and point Lena out to her throughout the duration of the show. She also watched as Lena continuously looked out at the crowd for the both of you, and how her eyes, reflected in yours, lit up the same way yours did when she found the two of you too. The woman couldn’t help but give a small wave as well whenever Lena grinned at her.
“Mama! Aunty Nat!” Lena screamed at the end of the play, running over to the both of you as you picked her up and peppered kisses all over her face. The little girl basked in the love and laughter from her mother.
“You were amazing, sweetheart. The best there is,” you said to her, still holding her tight, as Natasha allowed herself to sneak a kiss to Lena’s cheek. “Mama is so proud of you.”
Then Lena turned to Natasha, and grinned at her. “And Aunty Nat too?”
Natasha caught your eyes, and smiled reassuringly. “Of course. Aunty Nat is more proud than your Mama, even!”
When you finally tucked her in that night, Lena’s eyes full of the world and the stars in the sky, you pressed a final kiss to her forehead, and muttered a I love you before leaving her room. Natasha was in the living room, watching the news on your old, jacked up television, bottle of expensive wine in hand.
“Anything good?” You settled beside her, her arms instinctively reaching out to wrap around you.
She shrugged. “It’s the news. How’s Lena?”
“Still buzzing from the night earlier, but who can blame her? You really went all out with the pizza and ice cream after the play, she’s the happiest she’s been in weeks. Especially since…”
Especially since the apartment had its electricity cut off for a full day earlier in the week, because you couldn't pay the bills on time. Natasha stiffened. “...You know, you should always tell me, if these kind of things happen again.”
“I can get by on my own, Nat. I don’t want your charity, remember?” You sighed, signalling the end of the conversation before it spiralled into another argument.
In an attempt to smooth over the tension, Natasha offered, “We should go on a vacation soon.”
But all you responded with was a mirthless chuckle. “Seriously?”
“Seriously. Why?”
“Natasha, I can’t just go on a vacation,” you chimed, “I’ve got shifts at the hospital, bills to pay, and Lena’s far too young to travel any time soon.”
The woman in front of you furrowed her brows. “Who said Lena’s coming?”
You had to do a double take to ensure you heard her right. “Why wouldn’t Lena be coming?”
“I just thought, since she’s with her father on some weekends, we could let her stay there for a little longer. A week, two weeks, perhaps? Just some alone time, you know, you and me. Could help us get away from the stress and troubles of work for a while.”
Natasha felt you stiffen, before your touch was abruptly pulled away from her. “Natasha, where is all this coming from?!”
“Come on, you can’t tell me that you’re not stressed.”
“I am, but Lena is not the source of it!” You retorted, standing up. Natasha had gone into a protective pose too by then. “I can’t just leave her at her dad’s whenever it’s convenient. You and I know what kind of person he is!”
“But baby–”
“–I’m not leaving Lena and that’s final!” You half-screamed, not caring if the neighbours could hear, or if you were hurting Natasha’s feelings by then. “Nat, she is and will always be my top priority, and if you can’t handle that, if you can’t handle sharing a top spot in my heart with her…I can’t be with you.”
There was silence, lasting for a minute or two, as you breathed in heavy gulps of air, while Natasha sat, fiddling with the clasp of her watch, thinking of what to say, or do.
So you continued, “You can’t use money to figure your way out of this one, Nat. To make your problems…just disappear. Not with this.”
“You’re giving me an ultimatum?” Natasha looked at you then, eyes tearing up too.
Your heart squeezed in part longing, part regret, but you had to stand strong. You had to put your family first. “Yes. So please, I need you to make a decision, because I can’t keep going on like this. And it’s not fair for you to stay in this relationship if it's just for me, and not Lena, too.”
You caught the woman before you shaking her head, letting her tears fall onto her lap, refusing to wipe them away. But as soon as the moment of vulnerability appeared, it went away just as fast, as Natasha abruptly stood, brushing past you, made her way to the door and slammed it on her way out.
Lena did not need to hear your cries of anguish and betrayal that night, sobbed into the pillows you and Natasha so often shared the past two years, all gone by then.
Sat by the park bench the two of you used to frequent, Natasha allowed her tears to flow once more; an indication of her grief of the past two years, an indication of the life she had just thrown away. Perhaps it would also have been an indication of the loss of the best thing that could ever happen to her after all.
A child was playing with his mother at the swings nearby, looking no older than Lena was. Their laughter the only thing audible through the ringing in Natasha’s ears. She watched her pick him up, carry him around to the other playground equipment, and her smile and eyes reminded Natasha of you.
You, who always assured Natasha that she was doing right by Lena, that she was good at being a mother too. You, who patiently taught her how to prepare food for Lena, how to put on her socks and tie her braids that she so very much loved, even how to deal with the temper tantrums that stressed her out, but never you. You, who made Natasha believe she deserved to be happy as a mother, too.
Natasha thought of all the times you would come home after your shifts to not only take care of Lena, but also make time for her, too. How you would sacrifice your own time and energy to try to balance the two of them and their needs; and Natasha cringed. It should never have to be between them, she shouldn’t have had to make you choose. And she shouldn’t have been so selfish, should have made compromises, as you have, when being the girlfriend of a billionaire CEO with a schedule as jam packed as hers.
She wonders if she’s fucked it all up. She wonders if she’s too late. There was only one way to find out.
–
“Can we get ice cream, Mama?” Lena’s big, curious eyes always made your heart soft, and gave you a hard time denying her.
You brushed back a strand of her hair, and nodded. “Of course darling, anything for you.”
Though, as the both of you arrived at the usual ice cream shop that you, her, and Natasha frequented, you found yourself cursing as you checked the contents of your wallet, clearly forgetting that payday was still in a week. Lena was already eagerly eyeing the flavours, and you knew her usual order was a premium.
“Hey, Lena, sweetheart,” you called out to her, “Mama’s a little short on cash today. We’ll just have your ice-cream, yeah? I’m not hungry.”
Your daughter pouted, but in return, you gave her your most upbeat smile, and readjusted the straps on her backpack. “Just this once. And I’ll ask them to give you an extra big scoop, so you can eat for the both of us!”
But her gaze was somewhere behind, and before you could follow it, Lena was already pointing to a person behind you, screaming, “Aunty Nat!”
You caught Natasha’s gaze through the shop windows, and there she was, big bouquet of flowers in hand, dressed in the blouse Lena had picked for her when you went shopping once, and sporting the most uncertain grin on her face.
You scooped Lena up protectively, preventing her from running straight to Natasha, but Natasha had only come forward, keeping a distance safe enough for you, but close enough for you to hear what she had to say.
“I’m sorry,” she started, moving one of her thumbs to reveal a smaller bouquet of flowers behind the large ones, in Lena’s favourite sunflowers, “I fucked everything up.”
You nodded, but did not say anything.
“I realise it now, even though I’ve always known, but…I’m here, baby. For the long run, for the long haul, for everything. With both you, and Lena. I cannot imagine a life without either of you, and I’m very sorry for having made you choose between us in the past. If you give me a chance, just one last chance, I will show you how sorry I am, and I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
Lena was reaching out for the sunflowers, and sighing, you allowed her to. Setting her down, she ran towards Natasha and the woman instinctively picked her up, peppering kisses on her face like you so often did. In response, you took the bigger bouquet, and gave her a soft smile.
“So you’re not leaving us, Nat?”
Natasha shook her head furiously, pressing a kiss to your cheek too. “Never. Sorry, again, for making you think otherwise.”
“I’ll try harder, I’ll make more time for the both of you,” she assured, “Tell me how I can make things up to you, my love.”
You pecked her on the lips, still feeling the passion and love even after weeks of separation. “You can start by buying Lena and I ice cream for today. Let’s go.”

ALL TOO WELL . pt1
warnings: swearing, crying, mean!matt, angst, no y/n, slight fluff at the end
based of all too well (10 minutes version) (taylor's version) (from the vault) by taylor swift (RED (taylor's version), 2021)
alexa is laying down in her bed, trying desperately to sleep as it's 4:30 in the morning. but she can't. all she can think about is the altercation with matt earlier in the day. she's trying so hard to understand why he hates her so much. what did she ever do to him for him to be that mean and that insensitive.
flashback, later that day.
"god, alexa. why are you even here anyway!?" matt shouts angrily as he sees the water spilled out all over the floor.
"i-i'm sorry! i didn't mean to, matt!" alexa raises her voice slightly but not to talk over matt or anything, just so he hears what she has to say since he always acts like he never does.
"well, i would fucking hope so you didn't mean to! you better clean all that shit because i'm not doing it!" matt yells, looking directly into alexa's big hazel eyes as tears start to form there.
matt's face softens as soon as he sees the tears in her eyes starting to form. as soon as he notices his own face softening, he tries to hide it but frowning angrily again. he didn't want alexa to see him show care for her but fuck, he did care.
"hey, what's going on here?" nick chimes in. he sees matt's angry face, the tears in alexa's eyes and the water all over the floor. he sighs. "i'll clean this. lex, go on the couch and relax. i'll join you in a minute." nick says softly, looking at alexa with a soft smile. he turns to matt and his expression becomes slightly angry. "and you. don't just stand there, move." he says harshly to matt, clearly upset about the way he's been treating alexa lately. alexa mouths a small "sorry" to nick before walking to the couch, sitting there.
matt goes to his room without saying a word but his face shows clear annoyance. alexa deeply sighs as she hears matt's bedroom door slamming shut. she buries her face in her hands.
"hey, don't overthink it, alright? it's just some water and you clearly didn't mean to. matt's just being an asshole per usual." nick says softly as he goes to sit on the couch next to alexa. he gives her a friendly smile as he rubs her back in attempt to comfort her.
"it's not the water that's bothering me. i just don't get why he hates me so much. all i ever wanted was to be friends and what makes me sadder is that we did use to be friends and pretty close ones." alexa says, her voice cracking and bottom lip twitching.
nick frowns sadly. he clearly understands what alexa is feeling right now. he scoots closer to her. "i know and i'm sorry but you know matt. he's always sucked at showing and expressing his feelings properly." nick says, making alexa look at nick with a confused frown on her face. "wait, what?"
before nick could reply, chris comes into the living room. "nick, c'mon we're leaving in 10." he lazily says.
nick mouths a small "sorry" to alexa before getting up and walking upstairs, to his room.
END OF FLASHBACK .
alexa sighs as she moves to face her nightstand where her phone is charging on. she turns it on. 4:50am. fuck it. she decides to text matt.

read at 4:57
5:04. alexa hears small taps on her window. she immediately gets the blankets off of her and walks to her window. her face lights up when she sees matt on a tree branch, looking around to check if anyone has seen him. she smiles to herself before sliding the window up, letting matt in.
matt gets in safely, trying to make as less noise as possible but also trying not to fall the window frame. alexa slides the window back down once matt is in her room.
"what do you want? it's 5:10am, alexa."
"it used to be lex.." alexa mumbles.
matt frowns.
"it used to be lex.. what changed?" alexa asks. she looks heartbroken as matt didn't even bother giving her any explanation on why he was acting the way he was.
matt stays silent as his gaze falls down to his feet.
alexa looks away as tears form in her eyes, just like earlier today.
"i'm sorry." matt mumbles.
"what was that?" alexa asks, waiting for him to repeat.
"i'm sorry."
alexa looks at matt, seemingly confused. matt sees no reaction from alexa so he goes on.
"i'm sorry, lex. i.. i'm a piece of shit. you never deserved any of that shit. i guess i'm just trying to make myself hate you because it's way easier to hate you than to just accept my real feelings." matt says quietly, playing with the rings around his fingers.
alexa frowns sadly at matt. he looks up at her and sees her dad frown. he takes a few step forward but she steps back.
"lex, please.." matt says as he stems forward again, grabbing one of alexa's hand into his.
"i don't understand, matt. i don't understand, what'd i do?" alexa asks quietly, her eyes full of tears threatening to fall.
"you didn't do anything, lex. it's not you. i'm just.." matt looks up from his hands. he looks at alexa's face and all he wants to do is kiss her. "i love you, lex."
alexa looks into matt's eyes as her eyes widen. "you- you what?"
"i love you."
alexa looks up at matt as she blinks the tears away. her cheeks now all wet from her tears. she looks away. matt pulls her into him and that's all it takes for alexa to melt into him and cry into his chest. matt leaves a few soft kisses on the top of her head as he whispers sweet nothings to her.
"it's okay, i'm here."
"you're okay, baby.."
"i'll never let go."
alexa could barely believe this. she's liked matt since they were 16 and now he's in her room, confessing his love to her after treating her like shit for months. alexa finally wraps her arms around matt's waist lazily as she buries her face into his chest.
this is gonna be interesting in the morning.
to be continued...

" THEY WHAT ?! ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS ?! " Satoru yelled like you had never seen him yell before. He was seething, eyes ablaze.
" This has to be a mistake... oh, angel, don't cry, come here. " Suguru talked to you soothingly.
You had come to them and told them the news through chokes and sniffles. It stung their hearts to see you so petrified.
An especially frightening mission had been assigned to you. Usually, these two overprotective boys tagged along with you or just did it themselves to save you the burden and pain of using your straining technique. But that wasn't an option this time, for some reason.
" I have a bone to pick. " Satoru grumbled, storming off violently.
Suguru had been practically cradling you in his arms to try and soothe your nerves.
" Satoru ! Don't do something rash — ah, shit, 'gotta go after that madman or he'll kill someone. Okay, you stay with Shoko, alright ? She's in the main hall by the vending machines. Relax. Satoru and I will sort everything out. Drink some water and rest — and no cigarettes with Shoko. "
So the boys went to complain to the higher ups, and though admittedly they were shaken up by Satoru's violently aggressive attitude, they didn't budge.
" ARE YOU ALL OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MINDS ?! "
" Satoru, calm down. " Suguru said. That's when Satoru finally calmed down.
" We're the strongest, let us take on this mission instead. " Suguru tried to reason.
Satoru's voice subtly shook when he spoke, residual anger lingering in his throat. His heart was beating heavily. " Y/n's weak. " he said. A harsh truth. " Too weak to take on a special-grade like that. "
Suguru tended to butter you up and call you strong, but Satoru was brutally truthful; you were much, much weaker than the both of them. Ever since they had met you, they felt this overwhelming urge to protect you with their lives.
Then they tried to convince the higher ups that you were " too weak " to do it. But they still didn't budge. In fact they glowered at the two students.
" You think I can't do it myself ! I'm a fucking god ! I could snap that thing in half with my fingertips ! " Satoru went into a sudden self-induced power trip, but Suguru stood besides him and silently agreed. Of course he could do it himself, he was Gojo Satoru.
Storming off again, Satoru left to go find you. And Suguru followed after his steps.
" Shoko ? Where did Y/n go ? She was supposed to be with you. "
" . . . uh, she walked right past me earlier and when I asked where she was headed, she said something about Roppongi ? " Shoko had her head in her hands and a lit cigarette between her fingers.
" God fucking damn it, that idiot. " Satoru's heart panged with worry.
" Save some limbs for me to rip off. " Suguru joked.
" Let's go get her. " Suguru said.
" I swear to fuck . . . I'll fucking rip that thing to limb by limb if it even so much as grazes her skin. " Satoru seethed.
" You two are gonna get reprimanded for this, you know. "
Satoru waved his hand dismissively and left with Suguru.
You were in the midst of battle, bleeding and panting. Covering your ears, you were just about to succumb to your paralyzing fear when suddenly your two saviors sliced right into the scene. You caught a glimpse of the most feral, raw look in Satoru's eyes; pure vengeance, it was almost artful how he pulled apart the cursed spirit.
" Angel, it's okay now, We're here. " Suguru comforted you, lifting your limp body and holding it like a baby. " You did good. Don't try to move, you must be in a lot of pain. I've got you, don't worry. Oh — Satoru, that was quick. Are you trying to show off for her ? Just teasing. "
You listened to the lullaby-like voice of Suguru and let your eyes flutter shut. The last image in your vision was that of a panting, blue-eyed boy who looked so startled to see you in poor condition. He looked about ready to cry.
Their voices sounded like distant echoes to you as you drifted into a half-conscious state, leaning more on the unconscious side.
" . . . I could kill those old fucks right now. "
" Satoru, calm down. She's going to be alright. Let's just get her to Shoko. "
" I hate seeing her like this. "
" Me too. But she'll be okay. "
" Angel, still with us ? Satoru, just breathe. She's really going to be okay. Don't cry or you'll make me cry, too. "
" Sh-she's so damn stubborn. Stubborn a—nd st-stupid. Why'd you run off by yourself like that. Y-you stupid weakling . . . "
You could hear Satoru distantly crying, and he didn't stop until after Shoko tended to you. The boys kept close, soothingly stroking your arms and cheeks to keep you conscious.
Nothing can explain the relief they felt when they saw you stirring-to again.
" Hey, sleepyhead. " Suguru's tender smile was the first thing you saw.
Satoru's lips were parted, his face paler than ever. He looked so relieved and yet shocked to the bone, like he'd just gone through the worst day of his life.
" Welcome back to the land of the living. " Shoko greeted, cleaning up the blood on your cheek. " You know, you made the boys cry. Satoru even had a snotty nose like a little kid. "
" Shut up . . . "
Satoru heard how dry your throat was when you spoke, and promptly shoved his half-full water bottle in your face, hastily drying his eyes on his uniform sleeve. Like the in-sync duo they were, they worked together to help you drink; Suguru held the back of your head, and Satoru tilted the water bottle into your mouth. Of course he spilled a bit, two rivulets of water went down either side of your jawline and tickled your neck.
" . . . was just . . . trying to show you two . . . that I'm not weak . . . but I guess I am. I'm Sorry. " you choked, voice barely above a whisper.
Their hearts sunk deep.
" You're not weak . . . " Satoru choked up too, eyes only recently dried of tears and yet fresh ones began tipping over his bottom lid, wetting his angelic lashes. " You're not weak, I'm sorry I say that all the time. I shouldn't have . . . I just . . . would rather convince you you're weak so you'll call on us all the time, 'n n-never r—r-risk los—ing y—ou. " he suddenly sobbed at the end, realizing how deeply he cared for you.
Suguru was on the verge of tears, too, because of the sight of his best friend sobbing like a hurt puppy and also because of what he had just said.
" . . . don't cry, you two. A—ahah, Sh-Shoko don't you cry with them ! Or I'm gonna cr—yh. "
" Very graceful, Satoru. " Suguru joked.
" . . . thanks. " you thanked them.
" Don't say thank you. "
You could barely make out the complicated sentence that Suguru said next, it was something like;
" You'll never be undeserving of our protection. " and " So never say thank you. "
That day, they didn't just promise to keep you safe, they vowed it. Weak or not, strengthened or not, they felt compelled to be at your side.
Through the long passage of time, they never break their vow to keep you safe, even when Satoru and Suguru part paths. You're never an enemy to either of them, you're always their baby.
It's a tough reality to accept that one of your closest friends has become a murderous cult leader, and the other has become a lonely god. But they still visit you. Sometimes you three will hang out altogether in secret — so risky, but worth it, to see the two of them smiling with you even though you had very few things to smile about during your adulthood.
The sweet, comforting feeling of the adolescent memories made with them carries through all the years.

You nearly jump out of your skin when the screaming thunder rips you from your fitful sleep. You sit up so fast you almost fall out of bed, your jaw hanging open like you’re trying to cry out despite no sound leaving your throat. Your chest is heaving so fast you start to choke on your breath. It takes a moment for your eyes to focus, and even longer still for you to remember where you are.
Do you recognize this place?
Home?
This isn’t home.
No. Not quite.
A home, yes, but not your home.
The TV is still on.
The wallpaper is still peeling.
The shag rug is still discolored.
You know where you are.
You look around for a second, taking in your surroundings and making sure your assessment was correct. It’s like a flood of memories coming back to you in an instant, and for a second it’s almost calming. That is, until you get to the part that made you so afraid in the first place.
The nightmares have been pervasive for weeks now. You’re not sure why. It’s some sort of episode you think, one of these days it’ll stop, but it’s been wearing on you. You’ve hidden it from Tim as best you can. You don’t want him to worry, that’ll only make you feel worse, and usually it’s easy enough to shake the thoughts from your mind.
Usually.
But this time it’s lingering, an unwanted guest meandering in the doorway for an uncomfortable amount of time, like dirty smoke permeating everything around it and yellowing the walls with its horrible malodor.
God, it’s everywhere.
You squeeze your eyes shut, bringing your knees to your chest and hiding your face in them. It’s a feeble attempt to calm yourself, to stop the images of your nightmare from flashing in your mind over and over again, but it does little to help.
The thunder cries out again and you yelp in surprise, the harsh noise cutting through the static buzzing taking over your mind. It irritates the pounding headache you can feel coming on. You’re exhausted, only being kept awake by the obscene amounts of adrenaline being pumped through your veins.
God, it won’t go away.
There are just some thoughts that can’t be forced out no matter how hard you try. They can’t be pushed away or covered up or cut out of you. You can only wait until they dissolve on their own, but right now they feel like a cement block weighing you down from the inside.
The headache is coming on faster than you thought, and you wince under the pressure of pins and needles in the back of your head.
God, it hurts.
You can’t stay here.
You can’t stay in this room.
It’s like the walls are closing in on you, the darkness barely shrouding their approach.
It’s not safe here.
You need Tim.
He’ll know what to do.
You jump from your bed and tumble to the floor, not even taking a moment to acknowledge the pain as you thrash your way out of the covers tangled around your ankles. You barely manage to stumble to your feet, slamming into the doorway as you flee the room. It stings, but you don’t care.
You’ve forgotten all pleasantries or manners as you burst into Tim’s room, slamming the door open so fast the knob rattles from the impact. Tim jolts awake with a grunt of surprise, and for a moment his hand jumps to grab the revolver he keeps in the dresser drawer. He only fumbles with the handle for a moment before he blinks a few times and pauses. He squints at you, tilts his head, then sighs in both relief and annoyance.
He collapses back onto the bed, rubbing his eyes.
“God…dammit, kid!” He groans, and you feel a pang of guilt that’s quickly washed away by the flood of tears stinging your eyes and burning your throat.
You rush to his bedside, collapsing against the mattress and gasping for air as you try to collect yourself. You try to breath in, but the air is forced back out of your lung before you can take a meaningful breath. You choke out a pitiful cry of Tim’s name, but with the old TV being the only light in the room and his vision still blurry with sleep he can’t see the distress that’s evident on your face.
He turns over onto his side, brows furrowed in annoyance and a hint of a scowl on his lips.
“What do you need, kid?”
You don’t get to answer before the thunder comes down again, making you flinch and forcing a surprised noise from your mouth. Tim turns and looks out the window, sighing and rolling his eyes.
“Is it the thunder, huh? You scared, kid?”
“Yes,” You finally choke out.
He pauses, his expression instantly shifting to one of concern. He scrambles to sit up, making room for you on the bed.
“Okay, okay,” He says softly, “Come on, get up here, I got you.”
You claw at the sheets as you climb up into bed with him, your hands immediately finding his body and grabbing onto his shirt. You pull yourself into him so desperately he almost falls over, barely managing to catch himself just in time to keep you both from going down.
He’s almost as frantic as you are, large hands fumbling with you as he clumsily pulls you onto his lap and into his chest. Your legs wrap around him instinctively, your fingers clutching the back of his shirt so hard your knuckles are getting sore. It hurts, but you can’t let go. You hiccup and your breath stutters as you fight for air.
“Hey, hey,” He whispers, trying to keep you still against him without crushing you, “Are you hurt or anything?”
“No,” You answer, not relaxing your grip for a second. You feel Tim nod.
“Okay, okay. What’s wrong, kid, what’s got you all worked up?” He asks. Hopefully you can’t hear that little shake in his voice.
“N-Nightmare,” is the only reply you can stutter out, but it says enough. It strikes a nerve somewhere deep inside of Tim’s being, and it hurts like hell. He knows what it’s like to wake up screaming, terrified and alone.
You’re not alone, though. Not this time. He won’t let you suffer like that.
…But god, he is so bad at this.
He loves you with everything he’s got, but he can count on one hand the amount of times he’s come right out and said it. It’s embarrassing for him, that’s all, the words taste contrived and sticky in his mouth and it’s just unbearable. It’s not something he can make himself do.
What else can he possibly say?
He ponders that question as he keeps you against him, almost afraid to let you go. He can feel your hot tears soaking through his thin night shirt now. He doesn’t know how to stop them. He’s always suffered alone, he doesn’t even have a frame of reference here.
Think, dammit, think, Tim.
He won’t tell you everything is okay. It’s not, it never will be, and he’s not going to lie to you.
He won’t tell you to stop crying. It’d be a horrible thing to ask of you, full stop. Christ, at this point, you deserve a good cry.
He won’t stay quiet. It’s completely out of the question, he has to say something, and it has to be the truth.
He has to tell you the truth.
“…You’re safe with me, kid,” He sputters, trying to get the words out as fast as possible, “You’re safe, I ain’t gonna let nothing happen to you. Not ever.”
You go quiet for just a moment, like you’re surprised to hear that. Then you hiccup and suck in a harsh breath, and the sobs roll in once more. He sighs and starts to rub your back in smooth circles.
“Whatever’s scarin’ you, kid,” He mutters in your ear, “I won’t let it get you. Nothing‘s gonna get to you while I’m here. You can sit here in my lap all night if you want, I ain’t lettin’ you go nowhere ‘til you feel safe.”
As he talks, you slowly start to calm down. It’s gradual, but when he stops talking your hiccups and sobs have gotten just a bit quieter. Your grip on his shirt has loosened a little, too.
You believe him.
God, you really do believe him.
And for some reason, that’s the most amazing thought that’s ever crossed his mind. You really do trust him to keep you safe.
He plans to keep it that way.
He adjusts you in his hold just a bit, moving to lean back against his pillows. He tightens his grip a bit just to keep you from moving. He doesn’t want you to think he’s trying to get away from you, he just wants you both to be comfortable.
Both of his hands rest on your back, slowly sliding up and down as you hide your face in the crook of his neck. Your body shivers against him, the heaving in your chest starting to level out bit by bit as you catch your breath. He can feel your lungs expand and contract with each breath.
He reaches up to scratch the back of your head, his other arm wrapping around you. He listens intently as your voice quiets until you’re silent, and then the only thing he can hear is your steady breathing.
He just sits there for a minute when he realizes he’s actually managed to calm you. He’s almost impressed with himself. In any other universe, that was probably a disaster.
His hands still and move to rest on your back once more. He doesn’t feel the need to keep you held so tight now. You’re not going anywhere.
Are you even awake?
He turns his head to look at you, and you stir a bit in response. He quickly turns his head back so as not to wake you if you are asleep. He’s not going to get up until you are.
He sighs softly to himself, his eyes turning back to the TV and whatever trashy sitcom he fell asleep too a few hours ago. He doesn’t really care. He won’t be up for much longer. Now that the adrenaline has worn off the exhaustion is quickly taking over, not to mention the warmth and comfortable pressure of you laying on top of him is more relaxing than he’d like to admit.
He’s only just allowed his eyes to flutter shut when he feels you stir, and suddenly they fly open again. He stays still, but alert. You’re not having another nightmare, are you? Shit…
He tenses as he listens to you, watching your movements  carefully. You don’t seem upset, at least not yet, but that can change in an instant.
He’s ready to hold onto you if you freak out. He’s thinking about where he last left the first aid kit, just in case. He’s wondering what he’ll have to say this time if he can’t bring you down again.
But then you go still.
And you’re quiet.
And you’re breathing steadily.
And everything’s okay again.
Then Tim flinches as an unexpected mumble of his name falls from your lips, and he turns to look at you in surprise and slight concern.
“Yeah, kid? What is it?”
He gets no response.
Your eyes are closed. You’re asleep.
Thank God.
He huffs at his own anxiousness before laying his head back again. He pats your back softly, and his eyelids are starting to feel heavy again.
“You know what?” He whispers as he reaches to pull a blanket over both of you, “I’ll ask you in the morning. Sweet dreams, kid.”

Note: Another chapter
Natasha sat at a secluded table within the training facility. The soft scratch of a pen against paper filled the air as she diligently transcribed case notes into an old-fashioned notebook. To her, this method was a touch of familiarity in a rapidly evolving world.
As she focused on her task, a playful voice cut through the quiet corner she had claimed.
"Hey, Natasha, still clinging to the prehistoric method, huh?"
She looked up to find Sam Wilson smirking down at her. A glint of amusement danced in her eyes.
"Sam, some things are timeless," she replied, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
He chuckled, leaning in slightly and playfully nudging her shoulder. "Yeah, like you, I guess."
With a dry humor, she returned to her notes, ignoring his gentle ribbing. He continued to grin at her, unrelenting.
"You know, they have these things now, they're called computers," he continued, a teasing lilt in his voice. "They're like magic for note-taking."
Her eyes flickered up to meet his, her tone equally dry. "Magic that can be hacked, Sam."
Sam's grin widened, his banter-loving nature undeterred.
"You're something else, Nat."
Meanwhile, Natasha's focus was interrupted by the sight of Steve across the training area. As if Sam's comments were a cue, he sauntered over, sporting a sly smile.
"Speaking of old-school, Nat, isn't it about time someone taught Steve how to ask a girl out in the 21st century?"
Natasha couldn't help but smirk, her gaze shifting to Steve who was immersed in a training routine. She set her pen down, her amusement evident.
"Sam, leave Steve alone. He's been busy saving the world."
But Sam wasn't one to let up easily. "Yeah, yeah, I know. But come on, the guy's been single for, what, years? And he still hasn't figured it out?"
Her eyes danced with mirth, the memory of their conversations often circling this topic. She chuckled softly.
"You know, it's almost funny, considering I'm the one with amnesia, and he's the one who still can't quite manage it."
Sam laughed aloud, the camaraderie between them palpable. "Right? The world's a strange place, Nat."
“What are you two laughing about?” Steve raised a brow, a hand on his hip, as he stepped over to their corner of the room.
“The fact that you can’t get a girl,” Natasha said bluntly, a playful smirk on her face.
"Well, Nat not everyone can be married to bombshells," he retorted, a glint of mischief in his eyes.
Natasha chuckled at Steve's defense, her gaze shifting between the two men. Sam laughed along, shaking his head.
"True that, Cap," Sam conceded, raising his hands in mock surrender.
Steve's reply was accompanied by a soft chuckle as he turned his attention to Natasha, his expression fond. "Besides, I think some of us enjoy keeping things a bit more... old-fashioned."
Natasha met his gaze, her own eyes warming. There was an unspoken understanding between them, a shared appreciation for the simplicity of certain things in a complex world.
Sam, undeterred, decided to prod further, pointing to Natasha. "You hear that, Nat? Steve's defending himself."
She raised an eyebrow in mock contemplation. "Is that so?"
Steve's cheeks turned a faint shade of pink, but his grin remained steady. "Well, I'm just saying, it's not always easy navigating the modern dating scene. Some of us are more comfortable in our era."
Sam chuckled, shaking his head. "And here I thought being a super-soldier was enough to charm anyone."
Laughter and friendship floated in the air, a comforting backdrop to the dynamic trio's banter. Natasha's pen continued its rhythmic dance on the paper, capturing not just notes but also a sense of belonging she cherished.
In this easy exchange, Steve's demeanor shifted slightly, his eyes growing more earnest as he cleared his throat. "Hey, before we get too carried away, I wanted to let you both know that we have a meeting with General Ross later."
Natasha's eyebrows raised slightly, her interest piqued. Ross wasn't exactly her favorite person within their network.
Sam leaned back against the table, crossing his arms. "Ah, Ross.”
Natasha glanced at Sam, her curiosity evident. "What's the meeting about?"
Steve's expression remained steady, tinged with a hint of seriousness. "It's about a new lead on that black market operation we've been tracking. Ross has some intel he wants to share."
Natasha's lips tightened almost imperceptibly. Ross had always struck her as a man with his agenda, often at odds with their methods and objectives. She shifted her gaze back to Steve, her thoughts momentarily lost in contemplation.
Sam's cryptic smile reappeared, and he tilted his head toward Natasha. "Remember Ultron, Nat? Our friend had a little run-in with Ross."
Natasha's brow furrowed as she thought back, but the memory eluded her. She glanced between Sam and Steve, a mix of curiosity and intrigue painting her features.
Steve's lips quirked into a wry smile as he explained, "Yeah, there was some... tension. We'll leave it at that."
Natasha's interest was fully piqued now. Her past, the parts that had been erased by amnesia, remained a puzzle she was constantly trying to piece together.
"Well, I guess I'll find out," she mused, a determined glint in her eyes.
Sam nodded, his grin warm. "Yeah, you will. But hey, it's good to have you back in the loop, Nat."
Natasha's lips curved into a genuine smile. It was true, that being part of this team, and sharing these moments, made her feel alive and connected in a way that she had missed during her recovery. Her pen continued its dance across the paper, capturing not just notes, but a renewed sense of purpose.
*********************
The meeting room was a hub of activity, the Avengers gathering once again to discuss their ongoing operations. Natasha sat at the long table, her gaze sweeping over her teammates. The room seemed different from the last time they had convened here, and her eyes lingered on the changing dynamics.
She watched as Steve, Sam, and Tony exchanged thoughts, their companionship evident even in their discussions. The team had evolved since its early days, and the faces around the table were a testament to that change.
Her mind traveled back to a time when she had been one of the only women in the room, aside from Pepper Potts and Maria Hill. But now, the team has grown and expanded. Wanda, with her incredible powers, was a formidable presence, and you, though absent right now, a recent addition, had proven yourselves with determination and skills that fit right in.
The absence of Thor and Bruce Banner was notable. They had gone their separate ways, Thor back to Asgard and Bruce on a journey of self-discovery. Natasha had always appreciated the unique perspectives they brought to the team, but she also recognized that change was a constant in their line of work.
As the conversation carried on, Natasha found herself leaning back slightly in her chair, her fingers tracing absent patterns on the polished table surface. She listened as Steve, Sam, and Tony debated the intricacies of the new black market intel, but her mind wandered.
The familiar words and discussions seemed almost routine to her, a testament to the many meetings they had endured over the years. It was in moments like these that she couldn't help but feel a hint of boredom, her thoughts wandering to more engaging challenges.
The meeting room's discussions were interrupted as the door swung open, and Agent Ross entered with a few guards in tow. Natasha's brow arched in subtle curiosity at the added security presence. It seemed a tad excessive for a routine briefing, even one involving sensitive intel.
Agent Ross took his place at the head of the table, his posture conveying authority. Natasha's gaze never left him, her observant eyes assessing the situation. She had dealt with Ross before, and their interactions had rarely been smooth.
"Good afternoon, Avengers," Ross began, his voice carrying the confidence of a man accustomed to power. "I appreciate your promptness."
Natasha's gaze remained steady, and she raised an eyebrow. A silent question as she wondered why he felt the need for extra security. Ross continued without acknowledging her unspoken inquiry.
"We've obtained new intel on the black market operation that's been causing disturbances in the city," he said, his gaze sweeping over the assembled team. "We've reason to believe this operation is more extensive and dangerous than initially thought."
As Ross delved into the details, Natasha's mind began to churn. She had learned over time that challenging Ross's assumptions often led to more revealing answers. She raised her hand, her tone casual but her intent challenging.
"Agent Ross, forgive me if I'm mistaken, but it seems a bit excessive to bring guards to a routine briefing. Is there something you're not telling us?"
Ross met her gaze evenly, his expression guarded but unruffled. "Ms. Romanoff, recent developments warrant heightened security. We need to be cautious, especially given the sensitive nature of this information."
Natasha's lips twitched into a half-smile, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Sensitive enough to warrant guards in a room full of Avengers?"
Ross didn't waver, his response measured. "It's a precaution, nothing more. Now, let's focus on the matter at hand."
Natasha wasn't satisfied, but she knew when to let a point drop. She settled back in her seat, her eyes never leaving Ross as he continued discussing the operation.
However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Ross's gaze shifted toward your empty chair. "Speaking of precautions, it has come to my attention that Y/N isn't present."
Natasha's brows furrowed, her guard instinctively rising. She had no love lost for Ross, but she couldn't fathom his issue with you. She leaned forward slightly, her tone a mixture of curiosity and challenge.
"Agent Ross, I'm intrigued. Care to explain your concern?"
Ross hesitated, his gaze flickering between Natasha and the empty chair. "Y/N's... abilities, and those of Wanda Maximoff, are unique. Their involvement could potentially complicate matters."
Natasha's lips quirked into a bemused smile. "Are you suggesting that magic is a liability in this situation?"
Ross's expression remained guarded, but his resolve was clear. "I'm suggesting caution. We need to be mindful of the potential ramifications of involving such unpredictable elements in an operation of this nature."
Natasha's smile turned slightly enigmatic as understanding dawned. "Ah, I see. You're worried about not being able to control them."
Ross met her gaze evenly, his tone measured. "I'm worried about the safety of everyone involved, including the civilians we're here to protect."
Natasha's posture remained composed, her expression a mix of curiosity and challenge. She listened as Ross laid out his concerns about involving you and Wanda, your unique abilities casting a shadow of uncertainty over the proceedings.
"Agent Ross," Natasha interjected, her tone even, "I understand your caution, but let's not forget that each of us brings a range of skills and risks to the table. Isn't it a bit shortsighted to single out individuals with exceptional abilities?"
Ross met her gaze with unwavering resolve, a hint of tension underscoring his words. "Ms. Romanoff, I am well aware of the capabilities of everyone here. I am simply advocating for a strategic approach."
Natasha's eyes shifted to Wanda, who was seated across the table. She couldn't help but wonder why the young woman didn't jump in to defend herself. Wanda's gaze was fixed on her lap, evading Ross's scrutiny. It was a contrast to the fiery spirit Natasha had seen in her before.
Ross's tone shifted as he mentioned you and Wanda's past involvements. Natasha's fingers tightened imperceptibly around the edge of the table. The implications of Ross's words were clear, and she didn't appreciate the way he was framing the narrative.
"You're saying that incidents like Lagos and Sokovia were solely the doings of Y/N and Wanda," Natasha's voice was edged with skepticism.
Ross's gaze remained unyielding. "It's not an accusation, Ms. Romanoff. It's a factual assessment of events."
Natasha's eyes narrowed, and her voice held a steely edge. "Factual assessments can be twisted to suit different narratives."
Before the conversation could spiral further, Natasha decided to confront the insinuations head-on. "Agent Ross, speaking of accountability, let's not forget certain events that happened under your watch. I seem to recall the creation of the Abomination and the chaotic events that unfolded during your tenure."
Ross's lips tightened, his demeanor remaining composed despite the barbs. "Ms. Romanoff, I was following orders—"
Natasha cut him off, her voice rising slightly. "And what about the unchecked pursuit of the Hulk? Or the Sokovia Accords debacle?"
Ross's gaze flickered, and Natasha pressed her point. "You've made your share of mistakes, Agent Ross, and yet you've never been asked to keep your mouth shut or step down."
The room fell silent as the weight of Natasha's words hung in the air. She had shed light on the double standards, and the expectations placed on those with extraordinary abilities while the more mundane failures of authority figures were brushed aside.
Steve Rogers cleared his throat, his voice steady as he steered the conversation back on track. "Alright, let's focus on the matter at hand. We all want to ensure the safety of our city."
Natasha's attention shifted back to Ross, her gaze unwavering. She had challenged his assumptions and motives, reminding him that accountability was a two-way street.
****************************
The meeting had finally concluded, the tension in the room dissipating as the Avengers filed out, leaving Natasha and Wanda behind. It was only the second time they found themselves alone together, and an air of quiet camaraderie lingered.
Wanda hesitated before speaking, her voice soft and appreciative. "Natasha, I wanted to thank you for speaking up back there. It means a lot."
Natasha offered a small smile, her eyes meeting Wanda's. "Defending you was the right thing to do."
Wanda's gaze held a mixture of gratitude and determination. "I can take the insults, Natasha. It's Y/N that's usually more affected by them."
Natasha's brow quirked, her curiosity piqued. "Y/N?"
Wanda nodded, her expression somber. "She has magic, and people like Ross... they don't understand it. They don't trust what they don't understand."
Natasha understood the sentiment all too well. The world had always been wary of the unknown, and your unique abilities made her a target for scrutiny.
"But you chose this life, didn't you?" Natasha asked gently. "You chose your powers and to step up as an Avenger."
Wanda's gaze held a quiet resolve. "Yes, I did. I made those choices to make things right, to use my abilities for good."
Natasha nodded, her respect for Wanda deepening. The young woman's determination mirrored her journey, the path of redemption, and the pursuit of justice.
"I've made my share of choices, some I'm proud of and others I'm not," Natasha admitted, her voice tinged with honesty. "But one thing I've learned is that we can't let others define our worth."
Wanda's lips quirked into a small smile. "You've faced your demons, Natasha."
Natasha's smile mirrored Wanda's. "And I'll keep facing them. We all will."
As the meeting's echoes faded, Natasha and Wanda remained in the quiet of the room, their bond strengthened by their shared experiences. A subtle shift in the atmosphere prompted Natasha to change the direction of their conversation.
"So, Wanda," Natasha began, a playful glint in her eyes, "I'm planning a date night for Y/N. Any suggestions?"
Wanda's lips quirked into a knowing smile, and her eyes sparkled with amusement. "You're asking me for advice on a date?"
Natasha shrugged nonchalantly, a hint of mischief in her expression. "Well, you've been around for a while now. You’re her sister. You must have picked up a thing or two."
Wanda's gaze held a thoughtful intensity. "You know, Y/N isn't exactly a fan of crowded places. She prefers lowkey and intimate settings."
Natasha's brows furrowed as she considered Wanda's words. "That's true. I want her to be comfortable."
Wanda's eyes lit up as an idea formed. "Why not take her to that little café near the park? It’s close to your house. It's cozy, quiet, and has a lovely view."
Natasha's lips curved into a smile, appreciating Wanda's suggestion. "That's a great idea. Thanks, Wanda."
Wanda's smile was warm and knowing. "You've got this, Natasha. For what it’s worth I’ve always rooted for you to work out."
“Thank you,” Natasha says quietly. She doesn’t know why that means so much to her but it does. With a nod of appreciation, Natasha turned to leave the meeting room, the gentle reminder of Wanda's advice guiding her steps.
*******************************
You stood in front of the mirror, turning to gaze at the back of your outfit. You bit your lip in contemplation, your gaze flickering between the three outfits you had tried on. The anticipation of your date with Natasha pulsed through you, a mix of excitement and nervousness.
With a sigh, you discarded the first outfit—a flowy skirt and blouse that felt a bit too formal. The second, a pair of jeans and a tucked-in blouse joined the pile on the bed. Your fingers brushed over the fabric of the third option—a snug-fitting sweater dress. The creme hue complemented your complexion, and you couldn't help but smile.
As if sensing your indecision, Olivia watched intently from the bed. Beside her, Lily played with a pacifier and a tissue paper from one of the discarded shoe boxes. You chuckled softly at the distraction your little companions provided.
"Alright, girls," You addressed them with mock seriousness, "what do you think? Is Mommy ready for her date?"
Olivia's bright eyes narrowed in thoughtful consideration, and she nodded with a solemn expression, her tiny voice chiming in, "Pretty, Mommy!"
You laughed, your heartwarming at Olivia's approval. Lily, absorbed in her tissue paper play, seemed content to offer a few giggles in response.
Satisfied with Olivia's endorsement, You set to work adding the finishing touches. You chose delicate hoop earrings that framed your face and adorned yourself with light, elegant jewelry. A glance in the mirror reassured you—this was the outfit. It was comfortable and stylish, and you felt like yourself.
You couldn't resist the pull of Lily's infectious giggles any longer. You gracefully hopped onto the bed, your dress bunching around your hips. Lily's eyes widened in surprise as you joined her, and then her face broke into a radiant smile. Giggles erupted from the little girl, a symphony of pure joy.
"Hi, my sweet Lily," You cooed, leaning in to give your daughter a barrage of gentle kisses on her chubby cheeks. Lily's laughter bubbled even more, filling the room with its melody.
Olivia, always eager to be part of the action, crawled over, her curiosity piqued. Your attention shifted to your older daughter, and you offered a playful wink.
"Now, how about some kisses for Olivia too?" You asked, your voice brimming with warmth.
Olivia giggled, her face lighting up. She leaned in, allowing you to pepper her with soft kisses.
As you turned your attention back to Lily, your heart swelled with love. You gently plucked the pacifier from Lily's mouth, your daughter's protesting pout making you chuckle.
"Sorry, sweetie," You whispered, giving Lily's pacifier a playful twirl in your fingers. "I promise it's for a good cause."
Lily's eyes fixed on you curiosity evident. And then you leaned in, your noses almost touching, and planted a series of tender kisses on Lily's cheeks and forehead. Lily's pout quickly transformed into a giggle-filled grin, her tiny hands reaching up to grasp your fingers.
Olivia, not one to be left out, tugged on your sleeve. "Mommy, who are you going on a date with?"
Your smile softened as you looked at Olivia. "I'm going on a date with Mama.”
Olivia's eyes widened in understanding, and then she beamed. “Oh, can I go?”
“Not this time,” You shake your head. “You’re going to be home with Rae tonight. Don’t you like Rae?”
“I do,” Olivia nods seriously. “I can show her my toys.”
You nodded, your heart full as you looked at your children. Lily had managed to free her pacifier from your grip and triumphantly popped it back into her mouth, her joy apparent.
With a final round of kisses for both Olivia and Lily, you gently rose from the bed, the sound of their laughter following you as she made her way to the bathroom. You needed to finish getting ready.
*******************
Natasha approached the door to your home, her heart thrummed with excitement and nerves. It had been a while since she had been on a date, let alone one that held so much significance. In her hand, she held a bouquet, a gesture she hoped would convey the depth of her feelings.
As the door swung open, revealing Olivia with a bright smile, Natasha's breath momentarily caught. She felt a rush of emotions at the sight of the tiny girl. She swallowed her nerves and managed a warm smile.
"Hey there, baby girl," Natasha greeted.
Olivia's smile widened as she looked at Natasha, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Mama, you brought flowers!"
Natasha chuckled softly, feeling a sense of relief at Olivia's enthusiasm. "Yes, I did. These are for your Mommy.”
Olivia nodded, her curls bouncing with her movement. "They’re so beautiful and happy."
As Natasha waited for you to appear, her heart raced.  The door finally opened wider, revealing your form, and Natasha's breath hitched at the sight.
She offered a tentative smile, her voice carrying a hint of warmth. "Hey."
Your eyes softened, your gaze sweeping over Natasha with a mixture of fondness and happiness. "Hey, Nat. Come on in." You stepped aside for Natasha to walk in.
“Did she answer the door on her own?” Natasha questions referring to Olivia who trailed behind you.
“No, I was always right here,” You assure her.
Natasha stepped inside further, her eyes trailing to your backside and then to your house.  As she met your gaze, you shared a brief yet intimate smile, the depth of your connection evident in your eyes.
A hug ensued, a comforting embrace that communicated unspoken feelings. And then, as you pulled back, Natasha's nerves faded slightly, replaced by a sense of contentment. She held out the bouquet, her expression a mix of anticipation and hope.
"I brought these for you," Natasha said, her voice soft but sincere.
Your eyes lit up as you took the bouquet, your fingers brushing against Natasha's in the process. You looked at the flowers, your smile growing.
"These are my favorite flowers," You said, your voice filled with genuine delight.
Natasha's heart swelled at your response. She reached out to gently brush a strand of hair behind your ear, her touch lingering for a moment. "I remembered. I mean, not really, but I picked those because they seemed like something you would like."
Your smile was radiant, her eyes sparkling as they held Natasha's gaze. "Thank you, Nat."
You and Natasha readied yourselves for the date. The smiles exchanged between you were infectious, capturing the anticipation of the evening's plans.
During your preparations, Olivia and Lily observed with wide eyes, their curiosity piqued by the flurry of activity as you excused yourself to grab your purse. You stopped in front of the hallway mirror, making sure your appearance was perfect. Lily's gaze seemed fixated on the earring you were adjusting, while Olivia watched with rapt attention.
With a warm smile, you looked at Olivia and Lily. "You two will be on your best behavior for Rae, won't you?"
Olivia nodded eagerly, her enthusiasm evident. "Yes, Mama. I can be a good girl."
Natasha knelt, her presence reassuring. "Remember, if you need anything or have any issues, just tell Rae, okay?"
Lily reached out her arms, a clear sign she wanted to be included. Natasha couldn't help but chuckle as she lifted the little one into her arms, placing a gentle kiss on Lily's forehead.
"You take care and listen to the babysitter, Lily," Natasha whispered, her voice soft.
Your arms opened for a hug, and Olivia stepped into the embrace, holding on tightly. "You'll be good and look after Lily, won't you?"
Olivia nodded, her face brightening. "I promise, Mama."
Kneeling, Natasha met Lily's gaze with a tender smile. "And you, Lily. You'll be a good girl too?"
Lily's response was a delighted grin, her hand reaching out to gently touch her cheek.
With a final round of hugs, you and Natasha made your way toward the door, your hearts full. As you left the room behind, your shared look held the promise of a special night ahead.
With Olivia and Lily in capable hands, the two of you ventured into the world outside, fingers intertwined. The excitement of new memories and the warmth of your love propelled you forward, ready for the experiences that awaited.
***************
As you and Natasha stepped into the dimly lit café, the melodies of live music gently embraced you. The warm ambiance and soft chatter created a cozy atmosphere that felt both inviting and intimate. Natasha's hand rested on the small of your back, her touch guiding you further into the space. With a shared smile, you let her lead the way.
The stage was bathed in a warm spotlight, a solitary microphone waiting for the next performer. The room was filled with a mix of hushed conversations and the soft strumming of a guitar, setting the stage for an enchanting evening.
Your eyes glimmered with curiosity as you looked around, taking in the sights and sounds. "I've heard about this place, but I've never actually been to an open mic night."
She chuckled softly, leaning closer to you. "Well, get ready for an eclectic mixture of talent. You never know what you're going to get."
A singer took the stage, their voice smooth and captivating. Your attention was fully captured by the performance, a testament to the charisma of the live music.
Impressed, you turned to Natasha with an appreciative nod. "You were right. This is better than I expected."
Natasha leaned in, playfully whispering, "I have impeccable taste, you know."
Your lips quirked into a smirk. "I'll give you that one."
As the evening progressed, the music's variety and the energy of the crowd kept your attention captivated. Every so often, Natasha's foot tapped to the rhythm, a subtle sign of her enjoyment. You couldn't help but smile at the sight.
"Getting into the groove?" you teased, raising an eyebrow.
Natasha glanced at you with mock seriousness. "I've been known to groove on occasion."
You chuckled, appreciating her sense of humor. "Oh, I'm sure. The Black Widow with some dance moves, huh?"
Natasha's eyes sparkled mischievously. "Only when the mission calls for it."
The transition to a more upbeat song drew both your attention and the infectious melody making it hard to resist tapping your foot along with the beat. Natasha's gaze met yours, her lips curving into a playful smile.
"Care for a dance?" she quipped, her tone light.
You raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Agent Romanoff, are you trying to sweep me off my feet?"
Natasha's chuckle was rich and warm. "I might be."
The banter flowed between you effortlessly, a comfortable exchange of words that felt as natural as the music in the background. As the rhythm of the music pulsed through the air, a playful challenge passed between you and Natasha. With a knowing glint in her eyes, she extended her hand toward you, a silent invitation to the dance floor. You couldn't help but smile, your heart dancing to a beat that matched the music's tempo.
Accepting her hand, you rose from your seat, drawn into the world of the song. The space around you seemed to blur, fading into the background as you and Natasha came together on the dance floor. The spotlight's gentle illumination painted the scene, casting a soft glow over your figures.
As the music enveloped you, you found yourself moving in perfect harmony with Natasha. Each step, each sway was a testament to the unspoken connection that had been growing between you. It was as if you were engaged in a dance that went beyond the physical, a dance of souls that resonated with every movement.
Natasha's grace and fluidity were no surprise; you had seen her in action many times before. But there was something different tonight, an energy that seemed to infuse every sway, every twirl. It was as if the music was a conduit for her emotions, a way to express herself beyond words.
But what truly impressed you was the way Natasha's gaze never left yours. Her eyes held a mixture of intensity and tenderness, a silent promise that you were in this together, moving to the same rhythm, navigating the dance floor as partners.
You moved with a synchronicity that came effortlessly as if you had been dancing together for a lifetime. The world around you faded, leaving only the music and the connection that bound you together. The way Natasha's fingers brushed against yours, the way she guided you through turns and dips—it all spoke of a deep understanding that went beyond the present moment.
In those moments, you felt a glimpse of the person Natasha had become—the fighter, the survivor, the woman who had learned to open her heart again. And as the song came to an end, you found yourselves caught in a final, graceful spin, ending in a pose that felt like a testament to the night's magic.
The applause from the audience broke the spell, and Natasha's gaze held yours for a moment longer before she offered a warm smile. The depth of connection you felt was mirrored in her eyes, a reflection of the shared experiences and emotions that had led you to this point.
The dance had been more than just a physical act—it was a conversation, a celebration of the journey you were on together. As the night continued, you were eager to learn more about each other, to share stories and moments that would strengthen the bond that was growing between you.
Back at your seats, the afterglow of the dance lingered in the air. Natasha's demeanor had shifted to one of easy charm and playful flirtation, but you saw past the facade. You had known her long enough to recognize the subtle shifts in her behavior, even when she tried to mask them.
With a knowing smile, Natasha leaned back in her seat, her fingers tracing the rim of her glass. "So, what do you think? Not bad, right?"
You chuckled softly, meeting her gaze with an understanding glint in your eyes. "Nat, you don't need to impress me like this."
Natasha's eyebrows quirked, her smile retaining its playful edge. "Oh? And what makes you think I'm trying to impress you?"
Your gaze held a warmth that matched the gentle lighting around you. "Because I know you. I know when you're being the Natasha Romanoff, and I also know when you're slipping into the Black Widow act."
For a moment, Natasha's expression remained unchanged, her guard seemingly intact. But then, something shifted in her eyes, a realization dawning. The playful facade faltered, revealing a more vulnerable side.
"I didn't even realize I was doing it," Natasha admitted, her voice softer now.
You reached across the table, your fingers finding hers in a reassuring touch. "Nat, you don't need to put on a show for me. I'm already sold."
Natasha's defenses seemed to crumble in that moment, and she let out a sigh, her shoulders relaxing. She leaned into your touch, her gaze meeting yours with a mixture of gratitude and vulnerability.
"You've always seen through me, haven't you?" Natasha's voice held a hint of self-reflection.
You offered her a reassuring smile. "It's because I know you—both the Black Widow and the woman behind it. And I love every part of you."
Natasha's lips curved into a genuine smile, her fingers gently intertwining with yours. The tension that had momentarily hung between you dissolved, replaced by an intimacy that was more genuine than any act.
"Thank you for reminding me," Natasha said softly, her voice laced with a depth of emotion.
Natasha's gaze turned slightly thoughtful, and she took a sip of her drink before speaking. "Speaking of encounters, I saw Ross earlier today."
You raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "And how did that go?"
Natasha's lips quirked into a wry smile. "About as well as you might expect. He seems to have a knack for never quite getting along with me."
You rolled your eyes, your tone tinged with exasperation. "Ross and his grudges. He's had it out for me and Wanda for the longest time."
Natasha nodded, a hint of agreement in her expression. "You're not wrong. He's been wary of anyone with powers, especially after that whole Sokovia incident."
You leaned back in your seat, your demeanor confident. "Well, I've learned not to let his paranoia dictate my life. I can't live based on others' fears and prejudices."
Natasha's gaze softened, her admiration evident. "You've come a long way, you know? It's not easy to stand up to that kind of pressure."
A subtle smile played at the corner of your lips. "Well, I've had a good teacher."
Natasha chuckled, a glint of playfulness in her eyes. "Flattery will get you everywhere."
As the evening continued, you found yourself exchanging first-date questions once again. It was a bit amusing, considering you already remembered all the details from your past conversations, but you were doing it for Natasha's sake. Her amnesia was a challenge you both faced, and you were determined to make her feel comfortable and engaged.
With your natural storytelling abilities and charming smile, you answered each question, sharing anecdotes and experiences that painted a vivid picture of your life together. Natasha seemed captivated by your stories, her gaze never leaving you as you spoke.
"So, what's the most interesting thing you've done?" Natasha asked, her eyes curious.
You leaned back in your chair, mulling over the question. "Well, a couple of years ago, you helped me achieve something pretty significant. I got my high school diploma."
Natasha's eyebrows raised in surprise. "I did?"
You nodded, your expression fond. "Yeah, Hydra wasn't big on academics, but with your support, I studied and earned my diploma. It was a turning point for me."
Natasha's lips curved into a proud smile. "I'm glad I could help."
As the conversation continued, you couldn't help but notice Natasha's intrigue when you mentioned your plans for the future. "I want to go back to school for biology," you said. "I'm passionate about wildlife rehabilitation."
Natasha's interest was palpable, her curiosity evident in her eyes. "Wildlife rehabilitation? That's quite a unique choice. What drew you to it?"
A genuine smile graced your lips. "I've always had a connection to animals. After everything I've been through, I found comfort and purpose in caring for them. I want to study biology to understand their needs better and work towards protecting their habitats."
Natasha's admiration was clear, and she regarded you with a newfound respect. "That's incredibly commendable. It takes a lot of dedication and heart to pursue something like that."
You shrugged modestly. "I know it's not what's expected of me, but it's where my passion lies."
Natasha's gaze softened, and she reached across the table to touch your hand. "Your passion is what makes you who you are. And I'm glad I get to know this side of you."
Sitting together in a quiet moment, you felt a surge of inspiration bubbling within you. The topic had been on your mind for a while, and now seemed as good a time as any to share it with Natasha.
"You know," you began, your voice taking on a thoughtful tone, "I've been thinking about the future. After Lily, Olivia, and... well, you know."
Natasha's gaze met yours, her curiosity piqued. "What have you been thinking?"
A warm smile tugged at your lips as you painted a picture with your words. "I've always had this dream of opening up a center. A haven where injured or orphaned animals could be cared for and eventually released back into the wild."
Natasha's eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise. "That sounds like an incredible idea. I can see how much it means to you."
You nodded, your enthusiasm evident. "And here's the thing—I've been imagining it as something we could all do together. A family venture, you know? Lily and Olivia could join in too. I know they’re still little.”
The idea seemed to take root in Natasha's mind, her expression softening with a mixture of interest and appreciation. "That sounds like a beautiful dream, y/n."
You paused for a moment, a hint of sadness entering your gaze. "Originally, I thought it would be something for the future after everything had settled down and we had the new baby. But... well, things have changed because of the accident."
Your words trailed off, and you realized that you might have inadvertently conveyed a sense of frustration or resentment. Hastily, you clarified, "I didn't mean to sound upset. It's just that things are different now, and our priorities have shifted."
Natasha's hand reached for yours, her touch gentle and reassuring. "I understand, y/n. And you're right—our plans might change, but that doesn't mean they're abandoned. We'll find a way to make things work, step by step."
Your words lingered in the air, the shared dreams and vulnerabilities creating an intimate connection between you and Natasha. The atmosphere felt charged with honesty, and as you looked into her eyes, a question that had been on your mind suddenly slipped out.
"What changed for you, Natasha? What made you want to give me a chance?" you asked, your voice gentle but curious.
Natasha's expression shifted, a mixture of contemplation and emotion crossing her features. She took a moment to collect her thoughts before answering.
"When I woke up from the coma, I was... volatile, to say the least," Natasha began. "I wasn't willing to give anyone a chance, especially when it came to the idea of a family. It scared me."
You listened, your heart open to her honesty.
"But the more time passed, the more I realized how lonely I'd let myself become," Natasha continued, her gaze distant as if retracing her journey. "I had built walls around me, and I thought I was protecting myself. But I saw how those walls hurt others, especially you."
You couldn't help but remember the moments when Natasha had pushed you away, her pain evident even when she tried to hide it.
"I saw that you were afraid of me, just a little," Natasha admitted, her voice softer. "And that hurt more than I expected. I was the one who was supposed to protect you, yet my actions were causing you pain."
Her vulnerability was a testament to how far she had come, how much she had grown since waking up from her amnesia.
"I realized that I was standing in my way," Natasha continued, her eyes locking onto yours with a profound intensity. "I realized that I would be an idiot to lose something so pure, something that had the power to heal my wounds."
Her words hung in the air, the weight of her confession settling around you.
You reached across the table, your hand finding hers in a gentle and reassuring touch. "Natasha, you've come so far. And I'm grateful that you let me be a part of this journey with you."
Her fingers intertwined with yours, her grip firm and steady. "It wasn't easy, but it was worth it."
****************************
As you and Natasha stepped through the door, the familiar comfort of home surrounded you. With Lily and Olivia already tucked into their beds, the house felt calm and peaceful.
Rae smiled as she gathered her belongings. "The girls were great tonight. They're such sweethearts."
You nodded, grateful for her care. "Thank you, Rae. We appreciate it."
Once Rae left, an unexpected awkwardness settled between you and Natasha. The natural ease you had felt during the date seemed to have been replaced by a slight tension.
Natasha cleared her throat, her gaze slightly diverted. "So, I guess it's getting late."
You nodded, your fingers playing with the hem of your sleeve. "Yeah, we should probably... go to bed."
Silence lingered for a moment, the weight of unspoken thoughts hanging in the air.
Finally, Natasha met your gaze, her eyes searching and vulnerable. "Y/n, about tonight..."
Before she could finish, you took a step closer, closing the gap between you. "Natasha, I wanted to ask... if you'd like to stay? You know, here."
Her eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and uncertainty in her gaze. "Stay?"
You nodded, your voice soft but steady. "Yeah. I mean, if you're comfortable. We can take it slow, and you can leave anytime if you want. But I'd like you to stay."
The vulnerability that had marked the entire evening seemed to intensify as you laid your feelings bare. Natasha's expression softened, her walls seemingly crumbling before your eyes.
"I... I want to stay," Natasha said, her voice equally soft. "I want to be here, with you."
A warmth spread through your chest, and you couldn't help but smile. "Then stay."
“It’s settled then,” She matched your smile.
“Olivia wants to make a fort in the morning so you should get some rest,” You grin at her. “She’s not taking no for an answer.”
“I won’t have it any other way.” Natasha laughed.

Worst Nightmare
tenth doctor x GN!reader
Summary: In which the Doctor is trapped in an alien-induced nightmare, and it's up to reader to save him
a gift for my friend @internet-stranger-says-hi
Tumblr media
The Doctor woke up in an unfamiliar bed, panting. He looked around the room, anxiety building within him at his surroundings. He was in a hospital room. He hated hospitals, they gave him the creeps. His eyes searched the room for you, darting around at a shocking speed. It quickly became apparent that you weren’t in the room with him. Where were you? He needed to find you, and quick.
He noticed a small IV strapped to his arm and ripped it out with haste, not bothering to check the damage in his haste. As quick as he could, he threw the bedsheets off, immediately rushing to the door. A sudden tension built within him, harboring a desperate need to find you. He needed you, he always did.
He threw the door open and speed walked out into the hall. As he strode he ran his hands through his hair anxiously, wracking his brain for any memory that might clue him into his current situation. The issue was, he couldn’t remember a single thing. Where he was, why he was there, and most importantly, where you were. The questions piled up, fueling the anxious thoughts within the Time Lord.
He really, truly hated hospitals. He told Rose as much when they visited New-New York. Even the fun little gift shops couldn’t ease the discomfort that they brought him. The irony wasn’t lost on him. His name itself implied hospitals (or at least some kind of medical context), but he just couldn’t do it.
The hallways seemed to go on forever, an endless maze of off-white walls. The pain in his head was accentuated by the bright fluorescent lights, creating a blinding blur around his vision. The putrid smell of disinfectant hung in the air, making his stomach churn.
He tried to outrun the sinking feeling, searching desperately for an exit sign. He ran down hallway after hallway, increasingly desperate for a way out. It never seemed to end, an infinite labyrinth of his nightmares. He called out your name desperately, hoping you were somewhere in the hospital. He received no response, only the unsettling buzz of the lights above his head. It was excruciating.
He began to wonder if he was nothing more than a mouse trapped in a complex maze set up to find the block of cheese. In the end, he didn’t really care if it was a trap, he needed to find you.
He desperately called out your name again, more a plea than anything else. The more he ran through the hospital, the more he was convinced he was truly lost. Every shadow caught his eye, giving him false hope that you were there.
He needed you. So much more than he would ever admit to himself, especially more than he would ever admit to you. Without you, he was scared and lost, and worst of all, he was cruel. He never wanted to be those things. He never wanted to be without you.
He felt tears pickling his eyes, but he refused to cry. He had to shove his own feelings down and find his way out. He didn’t have time to dwell on the pain and fear boiling within him, no matter how much it hurt.
He gathered himself and continued on, rushing through the endless halls. He made a mental map of where he was going, trying to ensure that he didn’t run about in circles. He noted the turns, the signs, and the labeled doors. It all seemed futile, resulting in him still running in what felt like circles.
After what felt like multiple gruesome hours, he ran into you. Your face felt like home, and he couldn’t help but throw his arms around you. He held you tightly against him. He dropped his head to your shoulder, burying his nose in the crook of your neck. From here, he could breathe in your calming scent. He never wanted to move, just wanted to stay here in your arms.
Unfortunately, his reprieve was brief, as you quickly pulled away from him. The warmth of your embrace was quickly replaced by a harsh slap to the face.
“You left me!” You cried - fury etched into your features.
“I lost you!” He argued, using his hand to cover the spot you slapped him. He didn’t understand what was happening, and that upset him. He always knew what was going on.
“You did not,” you huffed, “you left me all alone!”
“I didn’t, I would never do that,” the Doctor pleaded, obviously upset. He truly wouldn't. He needed you, he wanted you.
“I cannot believe you,” you sneered, anger boiling. “I follow you all this time, and the minute I stop being of help you dump me.”
“Please-”
“You’re an absolute monster, y’know,” you spat. The Doctor didn’t know what to say, he wasn’t sure he could say anything.
“The things you have done are completely unforgivable, and I’m tired of pretending they aren’t! You do way more harm than good.”
The Doctor felt tears building in his eyes again, and there was little he could do to stop them. Against his will, they started to fall. You were hitting him in his most vulnerable spots, and it was excruciating. You knew his insecurities better than anyone, and here you were exploiting them.
“You’re arrogant, rude, and a whole new level of selfish,” you continued. The Doctor shook his head like the action might stop your words.
“You don’t deserve to be loved,” you laughed, the sound more cruel than musical like it normally was. The Doctor didn’t want to hear anymore, but that didn’t stop you.
“I really, truly, wholeheartedly, despise you.”
That was the final hit, he was done for. Everything else became so insignificant. His ears started ringing, a pressure that muted everything around him. He knew you were still talking, still yelling at him, but he couldn’t seem to hear it. Perhaps it was shock. Perhaps it was heartbreak. Perhaps he was so upset he was regenerating.
“Doctor!” your voice came through his head clearly. But that’s not what your mouth was saying. It was almost as if he had the subtitles on for the wrong show.
“Doctor!” But there it was again, clear as day, your voice calling him, pulling him out of the dark.
His vision blurred, and the scene in front of him faded away into nothingness. He had been violently ripped awake, forcing him back into the present. He sprang upwards, nearly knocking you over in the process. His breaths came in short, painful pants. He felt like his lungs were on fire, and the room around him was blurry and unfocused.
“Doctor!” you cheered a third time, throwing yourself into his arms. He stiffened at the touch, still wary and hurt from your words. What had previously been a comforting action felt more like a stab to the gut.
You pulled away gently, confused by his demeanor. He usually softened at your touch.
“Doctor?” you asked softer, worry clouding your eyes. What had happened to him?
“Where am I?” He gasped, terrified. He felt a lightness in his head like he could pass out at any moment. His eyes darted around the room again, unsure if this was another horrible dream.
Footsteps thundered down the hall, signaling that the aliens who kidnapped the Doctor were near. You supposed it was up to you to get the two of you out of this. A sudden urgency fueled you, and you sprang into action.
“Oh dear,” you rambled, “we need to get you back to the TARDIS, now,” you hauled the Doctor upwards as he drifted in and out of consciousness.
The Doctor was a lot heavier than he looked. You supposed it was due to his impressive height. Nonetheless, he was heavy enough that you had a bit of trouble dragging him back to the ship in a timely manner. Fear and adrenaline coursed through your body, motivating you to move faster.
You lugged the Doctor through the heavy wooden doors before slamming them shut. You fumbled with the lock on the door, your hands shaking. You finally got it closed and breathed a sigh of relief. You slumped back against the doors with another exhausted sigh. You were safe behind the TARDIS doors, but that didn’t stop you from worrying. What if the aliens figured out how to get into the ship? What were you going to do then? The Doctor was the one who got you out of sticky situations like this.
You moved over to where the Doctor lay on the floor and started tapping his cheek, hoping to prod him awake. You needed him to get you to safety. You had done as much as you could, unfortunately, it was up to him now. Frustrated and groggy, he complied, awakening with a groan.
“Doctor,” you whispered, urgently. All you got was a grumble in response. “We need to get out of here,” you urged, eyes darting between him and the door.
He noted the anxiety in your voice and demeanor, the events of the past few hours rushing back to him. He needed to get you out of here.
Begrudgingly, the Doctor pulled himself upright, dragging his hands over his face. Suddenly, a burst of energy flooded him, and he was on his feet. You watched flabbergasted as he ran about the ship, flicking switches, and pressing buttons.
“Doctor?” You asked with a laugh. This wasn’t unusual for him, which was a good sign. He had boundless amounts of energy at all times.
“Yes?”
“Are you ok?”
“Never been better,” he said, but his inflection was off, “thank you.”
You presumed he was thanking you for rescuing him, something he never did. You were still sitting on the floor, legs spread out like a child. You frowned at the ground, wondering what you had done wrong. You racked your brain for something that might explain his upset but came up with nothing.
You pulled yourself up from the floor, confused. You watched the Doctor pilot the TARDIS, the whole time completely ignoring you.
“Where are we going?” you asked, leaning against the console. He didn’t respond and moved away from you. The ship suddenly felt incredibly cold to you. You rubbed your arms subconsciously, trying to comfort yourself.
The TARDIS landed with its usual thump, causing you to wobble slightly on your feet. You tried to catch the Doctor’s eye, but he evaded you.
“Home,” he said matter of factly, gesturing to the doors. His eyes remained trained on the console, refusing to look at you. Was he dismissing you?
“I didn’t ask to go home.”
“You don’t have to stay here.”
“Do you want me to leave?” You asked, hurt. Maybe he was finally done with you.
“You don’t have to spend time with someone you hate.”
“Do you seriously think that?” you asked, your voice pain-ridden. You had just risked your life to save him. You loved the Doctor, how could he not see that?
“You said it yourself,” he shook his head.
“When?”
“Earlier, when you found me in the hospital,” he still refused to look at you.
“What are you talking about?”
“You made it very clear that I was an unforgivable monster and you truly hated me,” The Doctor finally looked at you, and his gaze felt like daggers.
You scrunched your eyes closed, the pieces finally falling together. Slowly, you opened your eyes, “You got kidnapped by aliens,” you explained simply, “they put you in a dream-induced state and showed you your worst nightmare.”
“What?” The Doctor asked, eyes wide in confusion.
“None of it was real,” you said, completely earnestly.
“I could never hate you. Ever,” you pleaded, “and you are far from a monster.”
The Doctor shook his head, trying to make sense of it all.
“Really,” you said, forcing him to look you in the eye. He needed to see you weren’t lying. He needed to see how much you meant to him. That you couldn’t look at him and feel anything but love.
He moved his gaze away from you, staring at the TARDIS console, brow furrowed. You desperately wanted to push your finger between his eyebrows to smooth the worry wrinkle.
“I spent so long not allowing myself love,” he whispered, so light you almost didn’t hear him. “It’s just safer that way,” you didn’t understand why he was telling you this, but you didn’t dare interrupt him.
“And then I met you,” he lifted his head slowly to meet your eyes. It was easy to forget how old he was, how much he had seen. That was until you looked into his eyes. Behind them was so much time and pain that it was almost impossible to look away sometimes.
“As much as I tried to fight it,” he continued, “There was no stopping my feelings for you.”
You honestly didn’t know what to say. You would never have expected him to say these things, to feel this way. A part of you felt the same and more, but you had always thought it wasn’t a possibility.
“Doctor,” was all you could manage to get out.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he blurted out, already turning away. You caught his face with your hand, gently turning him back to you.
“I love you more than I have ever loved anything in my stupid human life,” you whispered, staring deep into his eyes.
“What?” He gasped like the information shocked him.
“I love your sticky-uppy hair,” you said, running your fingers through his locks lightly. “I love your freckles,” you ghosted your fingers around his nose and cheeks next, “I love the smile you get when you figure something out. I love your mind and the wild things it comes up with,” you allowed your hands to rest against his face again. “I love how kind you are, and how deeply you care. I love everything about you, every part of you.”
Somehow you had managed to say exactly what the Doctor needed to hear. Your gentle words and touch melted him to the core.
“Really?” He whispered, still terrified it wasn’t real. He couldn’t remember the last time that someone had said they loved him, let alone listed off a bunch of reasons why.
You laughed lightly, shaking your head. Stupid Time Lord.
“Really,” you whispered back, leaning in closer to him.
He smiled lightly and rested his forehead against your own, bringing you closer to him. You nuzzled your nose against his gently. Your eyes fluttered closed, feeling a new kind of comfort with the close proximity. After a minute the Doctor slowly closed the last little space between you, finally connecting his lips with yours.
The Doctor was so much better at kissing than you had ever imagined. It put every single kiss to shame, even those on the telly. It was almost as if he was made for you. A perfect fit.
You smiled against his lips, feeling more at home than you ever had in your life. Yes, you could get quite used to this.

Here are some recs with the secret relationship trope! Most of them are andreil but the last one is jerejean :) i organized them by word count to make it easier.
The Enemy of My Friend is My Super Enemy 2k
Grace stands in solidarity with her teammate and friend Andrew Minyard.
Therefore, she hates that asshole Neil Josten.
don’t hate the player, hate the game 2k
Allison smirks suddenly. “At least I got an up close view of that ass.”
“Not a total loss then.” Nicky grins at her and they fist bump.
Kevin just sits there watching them, silently judging them and siping his vodka.
(neil is a hot stranger at the bar. people try and get with him. kevin drinks copious amounts of alcohol.)
Raven's Nest Burning 2k
While Andrew and the Foxes were in the stadium parking lot, next to the team bus, waiting for Wymack to appear, Evermore's East Tower exploded.
Pointless 3k
The Foxes have only ever known him as the vicious, vindictive Monster he’s portrayed himself as. Now, he’s a mystery no one knows how to solve; hard and violent for strangers, soft and gentle for this boy with the sharp smile.
5 times the Foxes accidentally spied on Andrew and his secret boyfriend and the 1 time they actually get to meet him.
Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day 4k
Neil has one of the worst days and Andrew is able to make it a little bit better.
Welcome to my Professor Neil and Professional Exy Player Andrew world! This is probably going to be a series where I explore more of this little AU that I love dearly!
i'll keep you 4k
Aaron asked, “What’s your deal? What’s going on?”
Andrew had no choice. He stood up, walked to the bowl of freshly cut melon surrounded by pools of watermelon juice and an assortment of black seeds, and plucked a piece of the fruit. It was dark red and glistening and sweet on his tongue.
It tasted like ash. Like a dirty little secret. Like a mistake.
The Bet 5k
“I bet the monster will come alone again this year,” he says, his voice scratchy like the sound of a blender in the early hours of the morning.
“I’ll take that bet,” Aaron says, face a blank slate, anger cooling behind his eyes.
“Five hundred bucks,” Seth replies, eyes sparkling in amusement. He’s got the face of someone who thinks they’ve won.
“A thousand,” Aaron counters. Andrew’s eyebrow twitches up imperceptibly, a feeling like a laugh bubbling up his throat.
(In which Neil and Andrew are secretly married.)
it's disillusion, and confusion (this illusion of me) 5k
“Okay, kid. You can fend for yourself I’m sure, but you won’t be able to beat the guy whose car this is. He’s dangerous.” Ignoring the way Neil snorted, Matt barreled on. “Like, really dangerous.” He trailed off; Neil looked as though he was torn between amusement and anger.
or; 5 times the foxes were confused over neil and andrew's relationship and the 1 time andrew made it clear
 Not-So-Secret Someone 6k
Eight times the Foxes discover that Andrew is seeing someone and one time they meet Andrew’s elusive partner
about u 9k
Neil and Andrew have been friends since they were kids. Recently though, those feelings had turned into more. While they try to keep their relationship secret because they’re scared of their families’ reactions, they go on a family beach vacation. Chaos ensues.
Brother of Mine 12k
'Aaron should have known something was going on with Andrew when he had agreed to change their deal.
Thoughts of Katelyn, of not having to hide her anymore, took up all the space in Aaron’s mind and he never wondered why Andrew would have relented so easily.
Looking back, it should have been obvious what was going on.'
OR: 5 times Aaron should have realized Andrew had somebody, and the one time he met him.
Odd Eye 16k
Andrew spends most of his childhood thinking he is a psychopath. He is not. Andrew is, and always will be, just Andrew.
That Isn't Nothing 38k
A look into the lives of pro exy players Andrew Minyard and Neil Josten. The world says they hate each other, but when Andrew gets transferred to Neil's team, their teammates begin seeing something else between them.
Sixteen hours 120k
started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this (affectionate)
Jean and Jeremy secretly start dating in their final year at USC.
In my top three favourite jerejean fics of all time!
