Hairstyles of Shinobu Kochou

Today, I'm discussing hairstyles of Shinobu and Kanae. Throughout the anime, we see two styles of hair for Shinobu. Earlier on, when it shows a younger version of Shinobu (image below), she has short, mostly black hair with slight purple ends, and tied up neatly in the back. The way Shinobu's hair is tied back makes her look stern, and fierce. And the way only two strands hang down in the front make her look angry, and short tempered. Some may say this hairstyle character design is similar to Aoi Kanzaki's, which is also short and stern. Young Shinobu wore her hair like this because she wanted to seem tougher than she physically was. Shinobu was never strong physically, so she had to make herself look tough in order to get by. She made herself look like that, even though she knew that Kanae's looks were enough to help them both get by, and that no one would mess with Himejima-san, who was the size of a bear. As mentioned in the anime and in the manga, Shinobu always had a boiling rage inside her, which is why she was open about her anger to a point in the beginning.

Later in the story (picture below) after Kanae died and Shinobu moved out of Himejima-san's estate, Shinobu changed her hair. She grew out another strand on each side of the front, and worked on softening her facial expressions. She grew out her hair to look more like Kanae's, because Kanae had two long strands of hair in the front. Kanae also always had soft, kind, expressions, which Shinobu tried to model herself after, after Kanae's death.

Recap Cameos Compilation #2

So, other people have done this but they often don't include the manga so I wanted to do my own. In episode 18 of the new Urusei Yatsura anime, they include a bunch of cameos of various pretty girls whose chapters they unfortunately aren't going to adapt. They also used this recap in episode 24. Anyway, I've compiled images of these girls as they appear in the new anime, a glamor shot of them from the manga, how they appeared in the old anime and a page from the manga to illustrate personality somewhat. I'll also list the manga chapter they debuted in as well as their episode in the original anime for those curious (this information was taken from the wonderfully meticulous site of furinkan.com). Please do click on the pictures, as the little previews don't necessarily do them justice. The three mystery silhouettes at the end I'll cover in a separate post as they will almost certainly appear in the new anime.

Before I started putting this post together, I checked what the maximum image count on a post was and when it said 30, I said, oh, that's plenty because I didn't actually count how many I was gonna include in this. So, here's HALF of them, check the other post for the other half.

ASSOCIATIVE-CORRELATIONAL POST: Similarities between AoT and ATLA (and why RivaMika is similar to ZuTara) - a thread

So I finally finished rewatching Avatar: The Last Airbender. And doing so made me notice a lot of similarities, not just with characters and settings. But also arcs, defining moments and... SHIPS.

Now once again, I'm going to say from the get go that this is not meant to undermine any character, arc, moment, and ship in the stories. This is just for comparison and correlation only. And I will throw in my opinions here and there. So please respect post.

Brooding guy and female lead have intimate and personal convos Pt 1 - in the most romantic possible settings (crystal catacombs like the cave of two lovers, under the moonlight)

Brooding guy and female lead have intimate and personal convos Pt 2 - and can we appreciate that the first time the female lead has ever opened up like this is to someone they supposedly hate? And the guy is listening intently like

Female lead fighting brooding guy because of feeling betrayed - Zuko siding with Azula, Levi choosing to give serum to Erwin instead of Armin (but of course both guys came back to side with their girls eventually 😏)

Female lead begins to trust brooding guy - and even follows his lead

Brooding guy knows how to calm female lead down - and they manage to settle their differences

Brooding guy and female lead join forces and fight alongside each other - especially at times when MC is away or not around, or when they're saving/helping MC

Meanwhile MC and female lead interactions are getting sour - having disagreements especially towards series finale

MC somehow forces themself to the female lead by questioning them - and makes the female lead visibly uneasy and uncomfortable, and MC doesn't get that female is confused

MC gets their ultimate form - Avatar State and Founding Titan

MC whines about possibly not getting together with female lead - because of circumstances

Meanwhile brooding guy and female lead face final boss together

Female lead saves brooding guy

Female lead cares for brooding guy

Female lead ultimately takes down final boss that she and brooding guy were fighting

The series finale - female lead kissing MC 🙃💀

Part 1 here for the comparison of the two stories as a whole which involves settings, characters, defining moments, and ships. This here will be more specific to the character arcs of Levi and Zuko, and Mikasa and Katara.

Levi and Zuko both grew into a world of war and survival

Both lost their mothers - though technically Zuko's mother is still alive, but they both had to continue growing up without their mothers

Both were abandoned by their father/father figures

Both worked hard in wanting to gain their father/father figure's acceptance and approval

But circumstances placed them in a position where they both have no choice but to fight them

Yet despite it all, both still managed to show compassion to their subordinates - Levi giving Petra's crest to a rookie, Zuko falling back to not endanger his crew

Mikasa and Katara both witnessed their mother's struggles and deaths

Both lost their fathers - though technically Katara's father is still alive, but they both had to continue growing up without their fathers

Both became mother figures to their siblings when the mothers passed - including Carla (whether real or adopted siblings), and basically is the mother of their group

Both have family heirlooms or symbols passed onto them by their mothers - and they were also left with important roles, Mikasa being the heir of Hizuru, and Katara being the only water bender left in the Southern Water tribe

When everyone was depressed and didn't know what to do, they both were the ones keeping it together

And despite what they face, both stood strong and did what they had to do according to their beliefs and values - Mikasa killing Eren to end the war, Katara not killing Yon Rha for closure (just chose this Mikasa pic for pose similarity purposes lol)
