Colonizers when they colonilized non-white people in the past:
Tumblr media
"It's the will of God" (I dream about it)
"God makes me do it" (My prophetic dream makes me do it)
"We're children of God, and He has commanded us to spread our white supremacy agenda" (We're Valyrians and with our dragons we will conquer *ehem* defend these kingdoms)
"It's our destiny" (It's our destiny)
"We're destined to save these barbarians" (We're destined to save these non-valyrian people)
"We are the heroes, the saviors who defend humanity from the brutalism of the East in the name of Jesus Christ" (We're the heroes, the saviors who defend humanity from the threat far North in the name of our Valyrians' colonialism and prophetic dreams and dragons and stuff)
Yea no shit Sherlock definitely not sound like colonizers at all

It will never not be funny to me how HBO always portrays the Targaryens in ways that force us to feel sad/empathetic to them, as if they're the tragic martyrs of the story. When Daenerys died the most sad soundtrack in the world was playing in the background and I was just watching that like: oh, am i supposed to feel sad right now? This woman just burned thousands of inoccents with no remorse and I should feel... sad... because SHE died?
I already can see Ramin Djawadi making the saddest soundtracks for moments when something bad happens to the targs in HOTD season 2 and I know i'll be watching that shit rolling my eyes, "oh no, the inbred corrupt monarchs are being killed, the tragedy 😭 oh and now their nuclear bombs shaped like flying lizards that they use for terrorizing and destroying entire cities are dying too noooo thats too much violence 😭 XD

Don't get me wrong, I hate Robert Baratheon as much as the next person, he is awful. That being said, his hatred of Targs is SO real. Like every time someone so much as says the word Targaryen he is like "Fuck them all" and that might be the most relatable thing I have found in the book as I am re-reading AGOT again.

“This show is for Targ stans” you mean the show about the civil war that caused the death of dragons and the end of the Targaryen golden age? The show about a family tearing itself apart over what are essentially the generational curses that come with being a Targaryen, the supremacy and the entitlement and the incest that is a metaphorical representation of those things? That show?

"It's such bad writing (insert stark) didn't like with Dany!!"
Yeah if you came to my house treating my brother like a play toy, threatened someone and acted like you're "doing me favor" when in fact this is the only time the army of the dead will be small enough to defeat.
I'm not sure I'd fall at your feet and worship you as a liberator in a country my families spilt blood and sacrifice freed.

its my personal opinion that it will be arya that ends up killing dany and jon killing the king of the white walkers. a lot of reasons towards this idea is that d&d fliped around the ending that grrm showed them and the fact that arya has more plot and relevance with slavery and jon has more relevance with white walkers. also i believe jon will uploaded neds beliefs of sparing dany leaving it up to arya to actually killing her to protect her family and the north
The theory definitely has merit! Arya training with the Faceless Men and then assassinating Dxny when she sits the Iron Throne a-la-Maegor style is very compelling. Dxny apparently being killed by a blade of the same Iron Throne she had been running after her whole life is such smooth storytelling. It is something that we have foreshadowing and compelling evidence for as well. Not to mention Robert thinks of sending one of the Faceless Men as assassins to slay her in the first book. A Faceless Man ending the act to its true satisfaction is a well written storyline if I know one. Moreover, it would be such a rich conclusion to the story arc that Dxny has slowly started on since the end of AGoT and is more apparent since ASoS & ADWD.
However, I have been recently thinking that Dxny dying in a fire would also be interesting. It would form a parallel with the first book wherein she emerged from a fire, literally rebirthed with her dragons. She might trigger the wildfire in KL and die in it as a crazy twist to the adage “fire cannot hurt a Targaryen” which we all know is untrue. It also aligns well with her tragic antagonist status. She is someone who tries her best to solve a situation only to find herself in a sticky situation of the same making, or worse. So I believe that if she (accidentally, unknowingly, not knowing better, thinks is for the good) sets off the KL wildfire, that would be very in-character for her. Not only will the wildfire take down the Iron Throne with it (which will 100% not exist by the end of the series), it will also burn down Kings Landing, which also is foreshadowed to not survive the ending by way of getting burned down.
I don’t believe that Jon will leave it to Arya to kill Dxny in any capacity simply because he doesn’t have that authority over her. More than that, I don’t think Jon & Dxny’s arcs will intertwine as much as they did in the show or even enough that Jon will think it a personal duty to eradicate Dxny. Although, I do think that the show very obviously exchanged Arya and Jon and Bran’s endgame. It definitely makes more sense for Bran and Jon to be ones to defeat the Others - the Ice Threat- finally (though there is no Night King in the books, which is sad because I miss my frosty man :,( sigh anyway) and Arya to defeat the Fire Threat given her training and motivations. Idk what d&d were thinking, seriously.
But what can I say, some of my opinions are still crystalizing and shaping as I reread the books and interact with other meta.

Placing my early bets on Aegon's Conquest:
They'll find a way to villainize the Martells/Dornish for not immediately bending the knee/killing Rhaenys and Meraxes/resisting the Targaryens. The attack on Dorne will be justified because they had the nerve to refuse the Targaryen rule and then later kill a woman that threatened and came to kill them.
Or.
There'll be a few of them (young and beautiful) that will desperately try to convince the old, ugly, overweight Meria Martell that she should bend the knee because they'll be so in awe of these God-like Targaryens, but she'll refuse them because she's a cruel woman who doesn't understand that Aegon had a dream to save the world!1!1!1!1 and that it's of utmost importance that he also take the throne from her/her family.

The Targaryens getting framed as “progressives” by locals like their succession laws weren’t more regressive by even Westerosi standards.
According to Andal Succession laws Aerea Targaryen should have been Queen!!!!!!

“why would elaena marry a dornishman when they’re nasty evil people who murdered her poor innocent brother daeron”
maybe because once elaena grew up she realized that there were better ways of bringing dorne into the realm than violent conquest, and that daeron got the death he deserved from not just a nobility that is valid for fearing subjugation from valyria but also a smallfolk sick and tired of these people showing up every few decades to set their principality on fire, and put aside any anti dornish sentiments she may or may not have harbored as a child to see the way her family had directly attributed to their suffering, eventually even falling in love with and marrying a dornish man??
also, considering daeron ii attempts a type of proto-reparations act in bringing dorne into the kingdom, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that someone as intelligent as elaena would recognize the inherent racism in the targaryen conquest of dorne and especially considering the very loud anti-dornish, deeply anti intellectual faction in the blackfyre rebellions, realized they wouldn’t be kind or understanding of an intelligent woman like herself and had no interest in herself or her daughters (of which she had four!!) getting shoved back into the maidenvault again?
like, daeron i is on some andrew jackson manifest destiny shit, and if it makes me an asshole for thinking “god i wish someone had merked jackson before he genocided & displaced my ancestors, good on the dornish for realizing you can’t negotiate with imperialists” than i am perfectly comfortable being considered an asshole right next to my girl elaena.

It's so funny seeing both team black and team green stans writing essays longer than the bible to justify why their favorite war criminals are better than the other war criminals... ya'll, just accept it, the main point of the dance of dragons is that both sides are equally bad/destructive and that Targaryens are a bunch of idiots that deserved to be humbled.

The Targaryens are cringe.
GRRM had to give them dragons, silver hair, purple eyes, an Atlantis-like empire of origin, incest and powers to make them even remotably interesting lol. They are literally those YA protagonists with *forrest green* eyes, that are also vampires, and the children of gods, the best fighters, the most intelligent, the hottest, etc.
They're just Special™ okay?
And the fact that they were massively overpowered and they still were the center of disasterous political conflicts for more than half their (very short) reign, starting in the SECOND generation... simply laughable. If it wasn't for the dragons, those hoes would still be living in Dragonstone, House Whitehill levels of irrelevant.
Also, the harm that they inflicted on the Starks, and the iconic House Martell, unforgivable.
But, the valyrians only knew destruction and supremacy, so what can you expect?

Why not blame targaryen blood for aegon being rapist maegor daemon and many more were rapists and rape apologists 🤔
Hey bestie! The post I reblogged was to compare both Aegon’s parents, and how, realistically, Alicent wouldn’t be the one inducing him to rape servant girls left and right, she’s not a Cersei, she doesn’t excuse all her children’s actions, she does her best to raise them in her (very repressive) set of values and rape ofc doesn’t include that.
However, Viserys is a rapist, most importantly, he raped Aegon’s mother for years, starting when she was 15, and most probably Aegon saw some remnants of that abuse. If anything, it’s Viserys the parent that influenced rape tendencies (his eldest daughter is also a rapist, and she wasn’t raised by Alicent).
So if anyone calls Aegon a rapist, do it pragmatically. It was Viserys who realistically influenced that behavior. It doesn’t excuse the action (which to me isn’t canon as it has no basis on the og material and was merely added for shock value) but certainly calls out what kind of father was (or was not) y’all’s peaceful king.
I don’t blame Targaryen blood for the Targaryens being shit, I blame the Targaryen upbringing and the supremacy they practice. Some Targs who weren’t raised by Targs (Jon Snow) don’t show the shitty mindset most Targs do. The blood of his deadbeat rapist dad is there, but because of his upbringing he grew up to be a hero.
