Artists from various European countries meet in Pantà de Sau (Spain) to draw attention to the European water crisis. Through powerful images and sounds, they aim to create awareness across national borders. Pantà (= swamp, moor) de Sau, a reservoir on the river Ter in the province of Barcelona, stands as a vivid example of the water crisis. Approximately a thousand inhabitants of five villages were displaced during the construction of the dam (which was completed in 1962), and the church of Sant Romà de Sau was submerged.

With the reservoir's water content dwindling to a mere 5% at the beginning of 2024, it now represents an endangered source of water supply for Catalonia. The church symbolizes the failure of this water project, as it is once again completely visible due to the reservoir's low water levels. The foundations and walls of previously flooded houses have resurfaced as well. The aim of this artistic project is to use the perception and resonance of the individual artists to express their emotions, physical and sensual reactions, and associations with the situation at the drying-out reservoir. They do so through artistic means such as performance, dance, music, visual arts, and poetry.

El grupo coordinado por el IGME-CSIC que ha encontrado ‘Los Atlantes’, nombre asignado al monte, ya halló las formaciones que se consideran ancestros del archipiélago canario Corales y peces en la lava submarina del volcán Tajogaite de La Palma. / IGME-CSIC Un equipo de investigación coordinado por el Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME-CSIC), del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, ha descubierto tres nuevos volcanes submarinos en una zona situada al norte de las islas Canarias. Los nuevos volcanes han sido bautizados por el equipo como monte Los Atlantes, nombre relacionado con el proyecto Atlantis que se desarrolla a bordo del Sarmiento de Gamboa, buque oceanográfico del CSIC, organismo dependiente del Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades. Algunos de estos volcanes, situados al este de Lanzarote, podrían estar relacionados con las erupciones de Timanfaya y otros se cree que fueron islas en el Eoceno, hace entre 56 y 34 millones de años. El proyecto Atlantis está liderado y coordinado por los investigadores Luis Somoza y Javier González, del grupo de Recursos Geológicos Marinos y de Medios Extremos del IGME-CSIC. Participan especialistas de las universidades Complutense de Madrid, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Évora y Lisboa, además del Instituto Volcanológico de Canarias (INVOLCAN) de Tenerife, el Instituto Hidrógráfico de la Marina y el EMEPC de Portugal. En esta campaña, que se inició el 27 de junio y acaba el próximo 6 de agosto, se ha utilizado un submarino no tripulado ROV para investigar el estado de los fondos marinos alrededor del archipiélago entre los 2.500 y los 100 metros de profundidad. Su objetivo es detectar señales de actividad submarina magmática e hidrotermal en el archipiélago, que podrían suponer un riesgo futuro para la población. También se están investigando los procesos ambientales y de formación de minerales submarinos en condiciones extremas, donde los microorganismos promueven la biomineralización de metales como el manganeso, cobalto, fosfatos o las tierras raras; todos ellos tan importantes en la transición energética. Las ‘abuelas’, las ‘madres’ y las ‘hijas’ El grupo de investigación que ha realizado el hallazgo es el mismo que descubrió las denominadas abuelas, montes submarinos al sur de las islas Canarias que se consideran ancestros del archipiélago actual, entre las que se encuentra el famoso monte submarino Tropic. Dividida en dos partes, en la primera fase de la campaña se han estudiado los volcanes recientes, conocidos como las hijas de las islas Canarias, que son los deltas de lava del volcán Tajogaite, surgido en 2021 en La Palma; el volcán submarino Tagoro, de la erupción de 2011-2012 en El Hierro; y los deltas de lava del Teneguia (1971) y San Antonio, Fuencaliente (1677) ocurridas al sur de la isla de La Palma. En la segunda parte, se han dedicado a las madres, situadas al norte, que son las que dieron origen al archipiélago y donde se ha descubierto el monte que se propone llamar Los Atlantes. “Fueron islas en el pasado y se han hundido, aún se están hundiendo, como cuenta la leyenda de la Atlántida. Algunos hemos podido constatar que todavía mantienen sus playas”, señala el geólogo y coordinador del proyecto Luis Somoza. Además, se ha descubierto una serie de volcanes submarinos al este de Lanzarote, situados en el límite con el margen continental africano. Estos volcanes pueden ser más modernos de lo esperado y podrían ser los equivalentes submarinos del sistema de volcanes del Timanfaya. Vida submarina tras las erupciones Las imágenes obtenidas reflejan la ingente vida que hay en los fondos marinos después de que las coladas submarinas formaran los deltas de lavas, comprobando también cómo la vida submarina está renaciendo tras las recientes erupciones con nuevos jardines de corales y esponjas, o áreas cubiertas de tapices bacterianos junto a las fuentes hidrotermales. “Una hazaña nacional”, en el Teatro Ricardo Blume

La comedia dramática “Una hazaña nacional”, dirigida por el maestro Alfonso Santistevan, nos narra el viaje desde Lima hasta Madrid, en 1750, del sacerdote franciscano Calixto de San José Túpac Inca (descendiente del Inca Túpac Yupanqui), pues debe entregarle una carta al rey Fernando VI, donde le detalla todos los abusos a los que eran sometidos los naturales y los caciques y gobernadores indios, parientes suyos, por parte de los corregidores. Tanto Calixto como el joven Isidoro, su compañero de aventuras y de viaje, aspiran a que el virreinato del Perú sea un lugar donde indios, mestizos y criollos se sientan parte del sistema, para no ser desplazados por los españoles.

La obra es ágil y amena, sobre todo, en la segunda mitad, pues, con la salida de fray Calixto del Perú, se inicia una serie de hechos rocambolescos, los cuales se acercan mucho a la farsa (los curacas con los que habla el fraile en el camino son presentados mediante la sátira política, como simples títeres del rey de España, a veces sus movimientos o gestos son mecánicos, lo que provoca que los actores asemejen muñecos de cuerda, quizás para simbolizar la poca flexibilidad de las autoridades a las que representan). El director ha incluido sabiamente elementos contemporáneos como los megáfonos que usan los actores al presentar sus reclamos al rey, para hacer un paralelismo entre las injusticias ocurridas en el siglo XVIII con las actuales. Se cuelan incluso ritmos modernos como el hip hop y el rap, además de música sacra con corales en quechua, huayno, pregones propios de la Colonia, se recurre a la danza, al teatro callejero, a la impro, a proyecciones sobre el escenario y a artilugios propios de la juventud como skates en lugar de carrozas, dándole un tono fresco y dinámico al argumento.

Pold Gastelo (quien interpreta a fray Calixto) tiene un desenvolvimiento brillante, la maravillosa voz y presencia del actor impregnan con un tono decidido y a la vez noble cada escena. La actriz Daniela Trucíos luce impecable en su papel del misionero criollo Isidoro de Cala y Ortega, pues aborda sus parlamentos con entrega y convicción, mientras que Ricardo Bromley (como el fraile Antonio Garro, el rey de España, entre otros roles) demuestra gran versatilidad, además de un sorprendente dominio de escena.
