i think the thing about hualian is one of them genuinely Is And Has Been in love the whole time, like from the BEGINNING of the story, and it’s not some “love at first sight” thing, hua cheng being in love w xie lian is, even from the beginning, VERY OBVIOUSLY something deep and serious. and then we see all this from the pov of a lonely guy who is just happy to have someone to talk to that will listen to him
like. no wonder gege feels SO dense and they make people homophobic and you are shaking characters by the shoulders
i’ve seen people point out that hua cheng was more in love with the idea of xie lian and slowly fell in actual love w xie lian over the story and while i think this is true, i think hua cheng knew this on some level. like he is always so desperate to know more about xie lian. i think he’s aware that his love is for his prince and his god, but i also think he went in like. “xie lian may be different than how i imagined him, but the core things, the things i witnessed that made me fall in love, are still who he is”
PLUS he’s seen xie lian at his best, and he’s seen him at his worst, and he still loves him. day to day might be different, but nothing that would make hua cheng stop loving him.
it’s just that, then he sees gege in his day to day life and gege goes from this Large Prince And God Figure to being gege, and gege isn’t perfect, hua cheng already knew he wasn’t perfect, but he was willing to make excuses and exceptions and explain away everything unsavory gege did, and now gege’s imperfections are little things, like he’s bad at cooking and he can be a bit in his head about things, etc, and these are such small things that hua cheng doesn’t have to justify it. and he finds that he doesn’t have any particular reason or want to. these are just gege’s quirks and he loves gege and by the end of it all he loves his prince and god, and he loves his gege, and he’s in love with xie lian
this is what they meant when they said “What matters is ‘you’ and not the state of you.”
which! interestingly enough! is said by xie lian actually

snippet for a the ballad of songbirds and snakes x steddie fic that has been floating around in my head for weeks since i saw the movie hope u like
(spoilers under the cut for tbosbas)
Eddie Munson glares up at Steve Harrington, and he aches to say what’s really on his mind. He can’t though - or he could - but saying what he is really thinking would lead to no one giving him sponsor gifts… and the thing his, if he wants to survive this he needs them more than he wants to admit.
“You want me to survive this?” Eddie asks on a whisper, and Steve nods as his eyes land on the chains that are holding Eddie’s wrists to the table that’s in between them.
“I want you to win this more than any of the other tributes.” Steve admits softly, and he casts a look to those around him. None of the other Academy members have gotten their tributes to talk, and Steve lets his eyes move back to Eddie Munson.
“Then start thinking I might actually win.”

freya is so remarkably good at retaining her composure and courtly manners even in the most dire or frustrating of circumstances, so naturally, the dynamic I’m craving most for her recently is someone who makes her lose that composure not just once, but on a fairly regular basis, because it is simply so rare to see. certainly does not have to be shippy but it would be potentially spicy if it was.

what did you think was gonna happen ?!
TRISTAN SUSPECTS IT WOULD NOT REMOTELY SURPRISE HIS COMPANION TO KNOW HE’S HOLDING BACK LAUGHTER, SUCH THAT IT’S ALMOST PAINFUL. perhaps it’s premature, or perhaps it’s misplaced. after all, yes, he’d taken his master’s relatively new and very fast speeder, and no, he hadn’t exactly obtained the proper permission, and yes, he had used said speeder to fetch cassian andor, aide to senator vex, from the front of his luxury apartment building on broad daylight. this had all, of course, been despite master seneca’s warning not even two days prior to limit his contact with andor so as not to stoke rumors or bring embarrassment down upon the jedi order. they both knew even through that conversation that it would not alter tristan’s behavior. the real message had been abundantly clear to him: don’t get caught. a mission perhaps already failed, although tristan reasons to himself that all they’ve really been caught doing is sitting beside each other in a vehicle. besides, it’s not as though anything technically untoward has ever actually occurred between them ; the most anybody could claim is that @k4ssa appeared to have a preoccupation with an unattainable padawan. even if the traffic droid were to relate his tale of tristan acting as andor’s security escort for the afternoon, he doubts such an excuse will attract much scandal. instead, tris knows master seneca will focus on the attention he’s drawn to himself, tristan’s spectacular showboating, the incredibly precise ( and far less subtle ) flying he’d employed in an effort to impress the senator’s aide. even now, knowing the possible ramifications of his actions, he doesn’t regret it. if anything, he feels exhilarated, his pulse elevated and a delicious warmth creeping up his neck.
“ what did you think was gonna happen?! ” tristan’s gaze slides from watching the rear view as the traffic droid briefly returns to its own vehicle, to cass when the other man speaks, and tristan is unable and unwilling to restrain the wolfish smirk that widens on his own face in response. he can tell he’s attempting to seem unimpressed, perhaps even annoyed by the padawan’s reckless behavior, but tristan needs no insight from the force to see how flimsy that mask truly is. they both know perfectly well that cassian enjoys when the jedi misbehaves, when that untouchable veneer of duty and serenity gives way to something far wilder beneath, a natural fire hidden beneath the icy exterior of his public composure, flames that yearn to leap free when given the slightest opportunity. he’s certain that’s why cass chooses to prod, to provoke him openly, to nudge him closer to the edge in any way he can at the various gatherings at which they cross paths. even alone in his fine apartments, sharing a drink as the close friends they’ve somehow become, seated on opposite sides of the coffee table, cass appears utterly determined to evoke tristan’s most unbridled self with expertly timed remarks or glances, drawing from him the most primal responses at an increasing rate despite all attempts at resistance.
it almost seems a fascination in such a way that perhaps it should offend the padawan — and yet, he allows that fascination to drive him to action even in moments like this. the secret truth is that there’s little he won’t do to keep andor’s attention on him for as long as he can manage. the aide’s preoccupation is likely temporary, he knows, an interest driven by the sheer fact that he cannot have tristan. tris recalls quite vividly their initial interactions, cassian’s practiced attempts at flirtation rebuffed out of hand by the jedi hopeful who had not the time nor the patience to entertain a young man eager to treat him as a collectible. not one familiar or comfortable with the taste of defeat, andor persisted, only to find that tristan turned him away each time — yet in the aide’s initial efforts to bed him, they had somehow decoded a strange friendship between the lines of their more genuine moments, when their true personalities made subtle appearances. now, they seem to find excuses to orbit one another, living comfortably in the fiction that it is strictly platonic ; meanwhile, tris finds himself inexplicably irritated by cassian’s steady string of dates and lovers — and knows perfectly well that cass still cannot quite stand not to have conquered something he had coveted.
yet still they stand at a stalemate, for their stations hardly allow for a clean resolution to the unspoken tension between them.
“ and what has you of all people so suddenly scandalized by a little bad behavior? ” tris answers, leaning back in the pilot’s seat casually, sacrificing his typically flawless posture to something a little more roguish, a little more sly, perhaps even relaxed. his sharp gaze fixes on cassian unblinkingly, reading his reaction to the entire situation with an eager fascination only apparent by the brief spark behind his eyes — one it would not surprise him if cass caught. after all, they always seem to be watching one another a little too closely. “ worst case, I get a little ticket that my master probably takes care of later and we go on our way. maybe I have a stern talking-to to look forward to back at the temple. worth it for a little fun, I’d say. ” he’s a little unlike himself today, a little freer, a little more reckless, and he won’t pretend like it doesn’t feel good, especially beneath the heat of andor’s gaze. he still can’t pinpoint exactly when it changed, when he went from habitually ducking their conversations to his constant internal refrain of look at me, keep your eyes on me, don’t look away from me, but he bathes in the attention now in a way a jedi certainly shouldn’t. “ I’ll behave the rest of the way to the gardens. I promise. as long as you don’t act like you didn’t like it. ”

I’m back in the Stanley Parable fandom aww yeah
So I present:
Sandbox AU ✨
- some details are a work in progress
- either timekeeper or the curator the narrator figured it out (no idea lol literally only used to write about Narry and Stanley)
- Featuring Snake adventure line because I said so.
- Stanley can go ANYWHERE like FOR REAL. He can leave if he wants! He can leave and come back! He could leave forever if he wanted to (he doesn’t really know if he wants to leave forever)
- At first Stanley just stays in the office. He doesn’t really get that he can leave
- When he does figure out he can leave he doesn’t go very far for very long. It’s daunting after being stuck in the office for such a long time
- The narrator can’t really leave
- At least not until he figures out a physical form!
- The overwhelmingness of the outside world is too real for both Stan and Narry
- Resets are still a thing but it’s up to either the Narrator or Stanley (and/or whoever codes sandbox)
- Players are still a thing but they’re more like ghosts who can interact with their surroundings; They’re no longer in control of the fate of Stan, Narry, etc
- Maybe that’s a minor conflict? Just the players being annoying? LOL
- Import/Build features? Art creator of some kind?
- Stannarrator as a treat for me and fellow shippers; Me manifesting the domestic love life through fanfiction be like-
- Probably ooc writing with base character traits because I’m having fun and ooc? Normally how I roll lol
- Based in canon (but only the endings I know because I missed some in the play throughs I watched RIP)
- Narrator’s body is either Creature TM or Android
