since today is punctuation day, i figured i'd talk with you about my favorite punctuation that is sadly not in unicode
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my apologies if these crop weird)
these six marks were invented by french writer hervé bazin in his essay plumons l'oiseau (or 'let's pluck the bird')
while the essay also had aim to switch the french language to a more phonetic writing system, it also gave us six new punctuation marks!
from left to right and top to bottom these are, the acclamation point, the authority mark, the conviction point, the doubt point, the irony mark, and the love point. so let's go over what these all were supposed to convey! (or at least what i expect they were supposed to)
the acclamation point was meant for praise, goodwill, and enthusiasm (ie "Well done [acclamation point]")
the authority mark was meant to be used in situations where the exclamation was serious and involved a degree of command or urgency (ie "Get in my office right now [authority mark]") i think this— along with the love point and irony mark— shows how a lot of these punctuation marks were a bit like early examples of tone tags, i'll get into it more later
the certitude point was used to show sureness in a fact. (ie "It's absolutely positively true [certitude point]") i think this might be the most useless of the bunch but whatever. i digress.
the doubt point is kind of the opposite of the certitude point, used when you aren't sure of something (ie "It should be done tomorrow [doubt point]") also it should be noted that the example used above is not the only way you'll see the doubt point, some also have it looking like this
Tumblr media
the idea of irony marks has been widely suggested, for example the poet/art critic/song writer (i think, this guy's only wiki page is in french and i am guessing a bit on the word 'chansonnier') alcanter de brahm suggested an irony mark that resembled a backwards question mark (not to be confused with the percontation point which indicated a rhetorical question) and belgian inventor (among other things) marcellin jobard suggested a point that looked like an upwards arrow (this △ on top of this |, i can't paste it)
Tumblr media
^ de brahm's mark
all that to say, bazin's mark was based off of the greek letter psi (Ψ) which some of you may recognize if you are familiar with the greek language or comics that shall not be named. it's used in situations of irony (ie saying "Wow, that sure was brilliant [irony mark]" if someone did something stupid)
and our last point is the love point, known for being so adorable, and indicating love or affection after a sentence (ie "Thanks a lot bud [love point]")
now we can obviously see that some of these are very similar to tone tags! the love point could be like a /pos, the irony mark is kinda like a /sarc, the authority mark could be like a /srs . i just thought it was interesting i guess. i don't have a point (heh) here exactly except that i guess people might actually need these punctuation marks ? so unicode? give me the love point or give me death
anyways so that's some fun niche history for y'all! hope you enjoyed

hey, it's me! i'm still alive, somehow, though just barely. this semester has been pretty tough so far and will probably remain that way until spring. despite this, i managed to add some fun new features. : ) ALSO i promise 100000% that if you sent me an ask i WILL answer it. i will. anyway, look at all those cool things! -> a system for cuts, bruises, tattoos, wounds and other decorations your whumpee's skin is an empty canvas. whether you fill it with scars and wounds or cutesy band aids is up to you!
Tumblr media
the way this is set up is kind of like a bunch of stickers. so for example, if you decide to hurt the lil' guy with something sharp, he'll get a "stab wound" sticker in the spot you decided to target. over time, that sticker will change over to a "stab scar" one. it's a very flexible way to do things, but it still needs some work and a couple big changes, since it's very unfriendly to low-end computers. in terms of visuals though, it should look exactly the same as the decal-based "decorations" for your whumpee that you see above!
- a better way of getting that dude on camera the camera system is now a lot more immersive and will fit the story. the awkward developer cam that could clip into walls is no more.
you can drag around the view and zoom in and out by scrolling. as you progress, you'll get access to even more ways to invade your whumpee's privacy. : )
-> new ways to get horny in the last devlog post (around 1000 years ago) i said that you won't see any "horny accessories" in the upcoming updates. that was a complete lie, sorry! here's a preview of some cool new horns you can give to your whumpee.
Tumblr media
the neat part is that the horns are customizable - other than just choosing the shape, you can modify their size and color gradient. -> other stuff + story i've made plenty of changes and additions to the back end. most of it is not flashy or super significant - most of the time and energy i could dedicate to the project went right into fueling the violent, bloody conflict between me and custom shader code. i've also made some updates to how time is simulated and fixed a bunch of bugs. there is now a sound system too! i'll look for some copyright-free sfx and music before the next update. oh, and there's some lore too!
Tumblr media
i've been experimenting with different ways of delivering the main storyline. heavily stylized cutscene-like sequences were very fun to do! not sure if i'll stick with this style though. either way, i have the general outline of something that resembles a plot. >: ) that's it for now! again, sorry for the irregular update schedule. i've been following the "no progress for a long time, then one night you have all the energy and inspiration in the world and you zone the fuck out for an unhealthy amount of time just working on your thing then until realize that you're going to be asleep within the next 40 seconds" development strategy - hopefully, my brain will kindly allow me to switch to a more comfortable workflow. :' ) taglist below: (let me know if you want to be added OR LET ME KNOW IF I FORGOT TO ADD YOU IM SO SORRY) @whumpinthepot @andithewhumper @pigeonwhumps @monarchthefirst @scp-1296 @whumpedydump @screenys-whump-corner @whumpshaped @bloodsweatandpotato @burning-and-remembering @thealmightyconeoftruth @whimpity-whumpity @catnykit @vietbluecoeur @rainythealias @cardboardarsonist @snakebites-and-ink @lthrboy @woo-lu-woo @wingsofadragonsstuff @wecoffphm @bayvel @pics-and-fanfics @dokidokisadness @generic-whumperz @lambetjenasus @aarika-merrill @hayaneakabane @moons-cozy-corner @brittaunfiltered09 @rule-masochism @reverie1234 @oddsconvert @wh-wh-whumpified @currentlyinthesprial @cupcakes-and-pain @heavenlyden @whumpsday @likeadeadbattery @stay-on-topic1 @cyborg0109 @kawhump @astrowhump

any music recs?
i could have made this very short or entirely too long. i opted for the latter:
HAVE YOU LOOKED FOR SOME NEW MUSIC TO LISTEN TO? LOOK NO FURTHER, FOR HERE IS
Tumblr media
I know. There's a lot of music out there. Well have no fear, because I've selected, organized AND categorized a fine number of music selections, just for you! I tried to keep it to just stuff you probably haven't heard of before, but I make no promises. Hopefully you'll find at least one new thing you can take with you into 2023.
MAKE YOUR SELECTION:
1 - MIKE, I'M LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO GROOVE TO. SOMETHING I CAN GET DOWN AND VIBE WITH OR PERHAPS LISTEN TO WHILE I WORK:
Sounds good! Let's start with a few of those:
Vulfpeck - Okay you may already know about Vulfpeck. Sorry. If you HAVEN'T, they're a wonderful group of dudes from Michigan that are all insanely talented. They have a wide-range of styles they cover and pretty much every member has gone on to do other solo stuff, which may also suit your interests. They also have a spin-off band called The Fearless Flyers that I'll cover a little further down.
Jacob Mann (As well as his Big Band) - Jacob's solo stuff has a nice laid-back feel to it, while his big band stuff is slightly more bombastic, but all of it is fun and groovy. Great example of a musician effectively switching between different toolsets, whether its a whole group of talented musicians at his disposal or just a bunch of nice Roland presets.
EMEFE - They haven't been very active lately but EMEFE is an incredible ensemble with plenty of amazing music for you to listen to. Their live album from 2017 makes me wish i could go back in time and watch it live.
Louis Cole - Louis Cole's also pretty popular, but maybe you haven't heard of him! Originally hailing from Knower, he's collaborated with a ton of musicians (including Vulfpeck AND Jacob Mann Big Band, mentioned above) as well as produced an impressive array of solo music. I can't understate how much I love this guy.
Thundercat - Know who else he's collaborated with? Thundercat. Have you listened to Thundercat? You should really do yourself a favor and listen to Thundercat.
Sammy Rae and The Friends - Only learned about Sammy Rae very recently but The Feeling (linked) was an earworm that lodged itself in my brain for months. Infectiously positive vibes, a great ensemble and really brilliant singing.
Silk Sonic - Okay they played at the Grammys so it definitely doesn't count as a deep cut but listen to Silk Sonic anyway okay? Okay.
2- MIKE I NEED SOMETHING THAT WHIPS ASS. SOMETHING TO COMPLETELY KNOCK MY SOCKS OFF.
Can do. Your metric of kickass may vary but at least one of these should work for you:
King Gizzard and The Wizard Lizard - King Gizz has put out such an unbelievable volume of music that it's hard to just recommend ONE thing from them. I've linked Nonagon Infinity, a great little album with the fun gimmick of seamlessly looping front to back. They really haven't put out a single bad album, so just go wild.
Royal Blood - Royal blood's bassist plays through an octave pedal, giving their stuff this fuckin' beefy sound that's well-rounded enough you'd never guess the band is just a bassist and a dummer. Their style has gotten poppier lately but it's still all worth listening to.
Tricot - Tricot's been around for around 10 years now and their stuff has only gotten better over time. I feel like Math Rock is kind of an obtuse genre for most people but their recent stuff is absolutely worth checking out even if that's not your usual sort of thing. Makkuro (真っ黒) is my favorite album of theirs by far.
Thank You Scientist - Stranger Heads Prevail is probably one of my favorite prog albums ever and you'll probably like it too. Insanely good ensemble (the amazing triple threat of sax/trumpet/violin is such an integral part of their sound) and really fun vocals.
Nova Collective - Another incredible prog group. As far as I know they've only put out one album but it whips ass.
Ask My Bull - These guys popped out of the woodwork a few years ago and I've been obsessed with them ever since, I can't wait to see what they do next. If you're a horn-loving freak like me you absolutely need to listen to them.
Fearless Flyers - The previously aforementioned Vulfpeck spin-off band, guest starring Mark Lettieri of Snarky Puppy and the incredible Nate Smith on drums. Their album Tailwinds is easily one of my favorite albums ever, the addition of a sax trio takes their stuff from incredible to legendary.
Daikaiju - Kaiju-themed surf rock. That's really all that needs saying.
3 - MIKE I NEED SOMETHING THAT'LL MAKE ME SAY "DAMN THAT'S COOL"
Well you're in luck! A wide range of things fit the bill:
Snarky Puppy - A powerhouse jazz/funk/rock ensemble full of insanely talented musicians. Just give this song a listen, you won't regret it.
The Dear Hunter - Dear Hunter (not Deerhunter. Different band) has remained my favorite band since high school. The band has a number of different projects, A collection of EPs for each color of the rainbow, a 5-part rock opera/narrative concept album (with a 6th part that may be a movie??) and other more straightforward albums that still cover a broad range of genres and styles. I think they're great and hopefully you will too.
Hiromi Uehara - Hiromi's probably my favorite pianist ever. Just watch that video. She's ridiculous. She also plays in an incredible trio and guest stars on my favorite Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra song! Preposterously talented and insanely fun to watch. I love her.
The Bad Plus - Speaking of great trios, you can't go wrong with The Bad Plus! Really vibrant arrangements and generally incredible musicianship throughout their work.
Esperanza Spalding - Obscenely talented bassist AND singer AND songwriter. As someone who sings and plays bass (not at the same time, of course) watching her do effortlessly do both at the same time is mesmerizing. I love her.
Chon - Chon's also pretty big now but I want you to imagine you're me at a Dear Hunter (see above) concert back in 2015 and one of the opening bands walks onstage and you're like "well okay what's these guys' deal" and then they start playing these fucking insane picking solos in perfect unison. I literally couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wish everyone could experience Chon through those eyes.
4 - MIKE THOSE ARE COOL AND ALL BUT WHAT I'M REALLY LOOKING FOR IS SOME MUSIC TO GET BUNDLED UP AND GO TO SLEEP TO
You need ambient? I got your ambient right here.
Hiroshi Yoshimura - I was first exposed to the wide, wide world of Japanese ambient music back in college and in all my years since then, few things have been able to beat Yoshimura's atmospheric soundscapes. If you need music to shut your brain off (and who doesn't, from time to time), look no further.
Chihei Hatakeyama - Another Japanese ambient powerhouse, Hatakeyama's got a huge discography of music and all of it will knock your lights out (very pleasantly).
Green-House - Very much inspired by Japanese ambient, Green-house is described as "music for plants". I only wish there was more of it.
Joep Beving - Not exactly an ambient artist but a masterful practitioner of minimal, atmospheric piano. His style is understated but filled with emotion, a great mix of more classical elements with a modern cinematic flair. Great to work to!
5- MIKE EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT JAPANESE CITY POP, JAZZ FUSION AND EARLY ELECTRONIC MUSIC BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START. GET ME ON THE GROUND FLOOR HERE
You got it boss:
Yellow Magic Orchestra - You've probably heard of these guys by now. I've only known about them for 6-ish years after they had a moderate burst of fame here but I think it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say these guys were one of the principle pieces of genetic memory that coalesced into the DNA of modern electronic music. All three of the principle members, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi (rest in peace) have all had really prolific solo careers in a ton of styles of music that are all worth your time.
T Square - An absolute titan of Japanese jazz fusion, their album Adventures is a veritable Rosetta Stone of video game music, directly inspiring a good number of video game songs including the dang mario brothers theme! Their stuff is an absolute joy to listen to.
Tatsuro Yamashita - Yamashita is often called the king of city pop and is (according to wikipedia) credited for pioneering Japanese "soft rock". Having grown up on the pacific coast, there's some ineffable truth in his schmaltzy surf music that touches me deep in my soul. You may not have the same experiences as I do, but I hope listening to him will allow you to tap into that divine spark and enjoy it for yourself.
Masayoshi Takanaka - Perhaps not quite as famous as Yamashita, Takanaka is a brilliant guitarist and musician known for that same schmaltzy pacific rock (just look at that damn guitar. I love him) as well as a number of other styles of rock and jazz fusion. He's got a huge discography and it's all incredible.
Casiopea - I would be remiss if I didn't mention Casiopea. I'm not an expert in Japanese music obviously, but I think it'd be fair to say they and T-Square are the two titans holding the glory of late 70's-early 80's jazz fusion like Atlas shouldering the world. Do yourself a favor and listen to Mint Jams.
Himiko Kikuchi - Truthfully I don't know much of Kikuchi's discography other than Flying Beagle (linked) but she absolutely killed it. Do yourself a favor and listen to that too.
6 - WELL MIKE THAT'S ALL WELL AND GOOD BUT WHAT IF I WANT SOMETHING WEIRD THAT DOESN'T FIT IN ANY OF THOSE CATEGORIES
I'm always happy to recommend unconventional stuff. Here's a few albums that I love to close us out:
Tom Waits - Alice - First of all, you should listen to Tom Waits. I know you know him as the Funny Voice Guy but he's had such an incredible musical career that starts great and only gets more and more amazing over time. Anyway, in the 90's, Tom and his wife (and writing partner since the 80's) Kathleen Brennan were scoring weird experimental musicals in Germany, namely The Black Rider (also worth listening to) and Alice. The musical is a strange extrapolation of Alice in Wonderland, namely inspired by Charles Dodgson's (Lewis Carroll) relationship with Alice Liddell, generally accepted as the real-life inspiration for Alice. Though the actual specifics of their relationship are uncertain, the age discrepancy and Charles' general fixation with Alice leads many to assume....the worst about their relationship, an interpretation the musical runs with. The actual musical is hard to find evidence of (there's some documentary footage from the 90's and I've found the script) but Tom rearranged his music for the show and released it in 2002, which in my eyes is the definitive version of the music. The album is unbelievably melancholic, heart-wrenching, at times deeply uncomfortable, and absolutely filled with beauty. Lost in the Harbor is maybe one of my favorite songs of all time. If ANY of this sounds even slightly interesting to you, I implore you to check it out. It also has Colin Stetson on saxophone and clarinet, which segues quite nicely to the next album.....
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2 - You may have actually heard Colin's music before, he's scored films like Hereditary, Color Out Of Space and the newest Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. New History Warfare is one of his experimental solo projects, most characterized by Stetson recording basically everything in a huge room filled with microphones, creating this incredible impression of scale. It's filled with some of the craziest shit I've ever heard someone do on a saxophone; long, galloping phrases with no pauses for air thanks to circular breathing, mixing in the sound of the valves opening and closing, and an incredible unnatural-sounding delay all achieved with live recording. The Righteous Wrath of An Honorable Man is one of the coolest things I've ever heard in my life (you've probably already heard it before) but the whole album is absolutely captivating.
Caroline Shaw - Partita for 8 Voices - Caroline Shaw is an amazing musician, singer and composer. All of her stuff is really beautiful and worth listening to, but few things stand out as much as this composition, written for and performed by a cappella group Roomful of Teeth (which is probably the sickest possible name for a choral group). I feel like a cappella music has a woefully bland perception among most people (thanks in no small part to Pitch Perfect); all lavish arrangements of pop music with absolutely no soul. If this is what you think all a cappella music is, I urge you to listen to this album. It's a masterful blend of speech, song and energy, filled with a vibrancy and passion I have a difficult time putting into words. You really just have to listen to it.

4. Favorite science fiction book(s)
Ooooh i think my Favorite piece of sci fi is actually a novella but i feel like no one is likely to ask the 'favorite novella' question so I'll list it here anyway: Silently And Very Fast by Catherynne Valente, which is available to read online in full from Clarkesworld. It's weird, it's emotional, it's a little sad, it blurs the lines about what it means to be human/a person: and that is my favorite combination of things.
Similarly, the Murderbot Diaries series as a whole is high up there for me, for their combination of fun romp, meaning of being a person, and closed-off character learning to open up.
Actual novel-books. I feel like if I read it now I would probably go "hm" about some parts that I'm sure have not aged so well but Snow Crash was formative to me as a young teen as well as to the direction science fiction itself as a genre, so i'm giving it a spot on the list.
And lastly, even Douglas Adams agreed that he was not really writing sci fi but just using a sci fi setting as a backdrop, but I can't discount my years of enjoyment from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy either. Some runners-up (runner up's???? idk): I really enjoy the Vorkosigan Saga books though the later ones sort of decline in quality i think. But the first ones following Miles as a main character, The Warrior's Apprentice and The Vor Game, especially were a bright ray of sunshine when i was drudging through "classic" sci fi novels in 2017. Loved the Imperial Radch books because we have found again an example of my favorite trope: an AI/robot sort of entity becoming A Person (im just a sucker for nonhumanity themes). I also did really like Ninefox Gambit and The Three-Body Problem for hard sci fi, but liked the following books in their respective trilogies less. Also not a 'book' but the multimedia sort of webcomic 17776 is another story i love. ok i have to cut myself off or i'll go on forever
21. The book(s) on your school reading list you actually enjoyed
I think the book I had the most fun reading in class was in 4th grade when we did The Westing Game. It was a little mystery story and it was one of the few times I didn't just read the whole thing ahead and we'd really talk about what we thoguht was gonna happen next, whodonnit, motives, etc. And at the end my class (which was actually only like 7 people because it was the advanced reading class) all dressed up as a different character and brought in props for them and other classes came in and could talk to us and read little synopses and try to guess who did the murder themselves. Except since there were more than 7 characters we also had to make a bunch of dummys of the missing characters to sit in those chairs and afterwards the lifeless yet life-size plushie of Sydelle Pulaski lived in my basement for like. 8 years. no idea what happened to her... sorry Sydelle!
36. Your absolute most favorite character(s) from any book you've ever read.
ooouurrghhhh... this is so hard but i think just due to how immediately and profoundly i imprinted on her, and how the archtype of her character played out similarly in subsequent books and every time it ruined me like an earthquake, i have to go with Rachel from Animorphs. she's angry! she's violent! she's afraid of what that means she might become! so she lets herself become a tool for the war so she doesn't have to dwell on the question because if she does, it might break her, and they can't afford that so she shuts away those fears into a little box. uhg every time i reread the series i get 1000 emotions about her all over again.

why have you been so quiet in the past 5 days?
also hope you had a happy 4th
I've been at work.
My job keeps me pretty busy. I work at a hotel and often spend my shifts alone. So I do a lot by myself. Reservations, appliance set up, post-stay charges, room inventory, key card issueing (although that's pretty easy, in my opinion), giving out complimentary laundry/soap/silverware, discounts, cashiering for the snack bar, etc.
And, very excitingly, I have been working with a local art gallery where I will soon sell my art.
I make scratch boards of people's pets. Example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And on top of those things, I have been working on a collaboration with a very close friend of mine. We are writing an original story together. Is a story has two main protagonist, he is writing from the perspective of one of them, I am writing the other.
I have made concept portraits of some of the characters from our story:
Suddenly Psychic
So I have been pretty busy!
But I am doing well. I left a job that was treating me very poorly and now work at the hotel. Where so far I am much happier. After years of struggling to work with galleries I found one that is embracing my niche passion for Scratch boards. And I am working on a fun story with my best friend.
I had been fighting a rough depressive episode for a while, especially after the loss of our dog Buddy, making the choice to put him down was not an easy one. But it was the right one to end his suffering.
And I tend to have a bit of a depressive episode around the 4th pretty much every year.
As well as a bunch of questionings of my choice in career. A part of me is unsure if I want to pursue a future in psychology, but I'm so close to getting my associates degree. So at least I'll get that because I've spent years for it.
I worked on the 4th of July, but I'm not really a fan of 4th of July anyway, so I actually did it willingly. My manager asked me if I would work that day and I was very happy to accept it.
I don't like fireworks.
All in all, I had some tough decisions to make, still do.
But at the same time, so many things in my life are starting to come together now. I have a chance to really make a career as an artist. If this really works, I might not even have to continue College. I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket however, so I'm still going to classes in the fall. Just in case.
I had become a Psychology major because I wasn't seeing success in my art career. I figured I could just do art on the side and still be happy. But finally, I have a chance. A chance I thought was lost to me.
A chance with a gallery owner that really Believes In Me.
I'm kind of scared. The overwhelming positivity from this Gallery owner does make me uncertain about whether or not I can live up to his expectations of me. Even so, I have to try, I want to try.
I spent a huge part of my life, my upbringing, with very little hope for my future.
But I'm starting to see it. My hope. My chances.
My Future.
It will take years I'm certain. Currently I still live with my mother because I can't afford to move out or find an apartment.
But I feel hopeful. Even... Happy.
Sorry I haven't been on here as much, I do appreciate you all checking in on me after my radio silence. But I'm doing well as of now.
My "father", who wasn't good to me or my family, isn't in my life anymore. I got to spend time with my brother. I am working on a passion project with my best friend. I'm working a job I feel more respected at and pays more than my old one (about $12/hr). I am seeing my art be enjoyed both online and in person.
I even started HRT! Been on T for a little over a year now!
I'm just... Starting to find happiness.
It wasn't easy, still isn't, and it won't be easy going forward, but I feel like it is all worth it.

do you think “jet skis on the moat” and “body paint” are about miles? or just “jet skis…”?
Heyyy
Oh my goodness. I'm so so sorry for how late I'm responding to this! I remember leaving it aside because I knew I could sit down and write a whole big answer, but then it kind of escaped my mind. But I'm here now! And will make up for it with probably another novel-length answer 🙈
Disclaimers are always: this is for fun. This is one of a million possible interpretations and even I have a lot of those in my head but just choose the 'loudest' one to share. (Sometimes I'll publish an analysis and then have a million new ideas about the song one day when listening to it. Nothing is fixed). This is based a lot on "vibes" cause it's so hard to understand the The Car songs, man.
Okay - so firstly, like I always say with The Car - I do believe that album is first and foremost extremely introspective. And Alex likes to say or suggest in interviews that there isn't too much straight up references to his actual life in there... Now I don't completely believe that? He just definitely doesn't want to talk about them (as usual).
What I see in there is a jumble of emotions and feelings and self-reflection - perhaps done in a less straightforward way than he would do previously. Maybe he did it more instinctively? But there's a strong feeling it is there.
So I do think most songs are just... about Alex's inner workings and feelings (also perhaps why it seems more abstract?) - but do some of those have the potential to refer to a very important and seemingly complicated, undefined relationship in his life? I do believe so.
Body Paint - I've tried looking at from different perspectives. And I'm not sure I found enough to connect it to Miles.
Although - there's a mysterious little detail that I've been overthinking for a while - which is this recurring theme of paint in a few songs. This is probably a prime example of my useless overthinking (and Alex would probably laugh about these sorts of connections being made) - but have you ever noticed:
There's still a trace of body paint On your legs and on your arms and on your face
Exactly the wrong time in exactly the wrong place. Save it for a rainy day. Baby, you go hard in the paint
Or are you just happy to sit there and watch while the paint job dries?
(Body Paint // Anyways // Jet Skis on the Moat)
So like do Jet Skis connect somehow with Body Paint (and Anyways) in themes? 👀
Who knows. But that's just a side observation 😅
Now Jet Skis - Jet Skis being connected to Miles possibly maybe I can see a bit more. With lyrics like:
Come over here and give your buddy a hug
So much for deciding not to let it slide
Because? You know our Milex brains work on overdrive hearing stuff like that. Can it be about anything? Yep. Does it bring to mind a certain someone whose been this man's favorite hug buddy? Also yup. Now extrawild theory territory:
"Deciding not to let it slide" kind of makes me think of how perhaps they've maybe established some new boundaries after crossing a bit too many. Like perhaps one of them went and "killed the joke" they had going in (👀) and after that some boundaries were set. Not letting more-than-friendly things happen. Not letting shit like that slide anymore... Until the next time (so much for that resolution!)
Lights out in the Wonder Park
Your saw-toothed lover boy was quick off the mark
That's long enough in the sunshine for one night
To me lights out in the wonder park is a sad image of something gone by. A wondrous place (jeez. Reference not even intended here) full of fun and joy - but the lights need to go off at some point. It's not real life; it's somewhere you can only go for so long before returning to reality.
Saw-toothed lover boy was probably what grabbed a bunch of people's attention? Miles' crooked, endearing smile (before he straightened his teeth) was something he was known for. And something Alex commented on himself I do believe a few times. (I also do know saw-toothed isn't crooked-toothed. It just sort of evokes that image to me?)
Long enough in the sunshine for one night - to me brings to mind the image of someone being given the full attention they want/deserve. But for some reason can't entirely own. (I can be yours tonight, but not tomorrow type of vibes. That's all we can have - then it's back to "real life". Lights out in the wonder park)
I don't know about the pajama pants and Subbuteo cloke. It for sure evokes childhood imagery. So maybe refers to some specific childhood story? Maybe it's about Alex. Maybe someone told him that they did that in their childhood for fun. Who knows.
And then come the super sad parts?
You know that it's alright if you wanna cry
is obviously so sad even if I can't place it anywhere specific context-wise. (Also seems to evoke Body Paint a bit with "Do your time traveling through the tanning booth So you don't let the sun catch you crying" and "I'm watching your every move I feel the tears are coming on")
And then:
Is there somethin' on your mind
Or are you just happy to sit there and watch
While the paint job dries?
When it's over, you're supposed to know
Okay - so what if paint is some specific metaphor? I haven't found a good enough theory for what that could be (would love to hear your thoughts if you agree and have ideas!) (though... i mean in Body Paint itself there's some interesting theories 👀 not sure it works with the rest though). And now... Watching it dry signifies the end or hibernation of something. But then "when it's over you're supposed to know" - kind of suggests like that ending isn't something that the person it refers to is ready to accept. It still seems like an open possibility. Like one side is still hoping.
As though it's the last time you're gonna ride
Is also sad - suggests something seeming like it's ending. It's the last time. But then there's that "as though". Like an open possibility, hope of it not really being true.
But damn; this is a big mess! Because The Car songs are so hard to analyze, they're so abstract. I can definitely see what Alex has been saying about focusing more on the melody and the emotions it evokes and lyrics kind of being an extension of that. Taking a backseat for a second (hehe. Car pun. Not even intended).
It would seem the album that's set on the actual moon would be as mixed up and tough to decipher as if gets but nope! Alex took up the challenge of cranking it up a notch. Because of course he did.
Anyway. I hope any of this makes sense and/or resonates with someone and their thoughts about this song 💛
Thank you for the question, sorry for the delay!
Sending good energy your way! 💫

Base Skill 2 Lead by Example Gains +10% order acquisition efficiency per other Sargon Operator stationed in trading posts, up to +50%.
The theme here is being a Lord Guard who doesn't do any Arts damage that she would have above average basic tankiness just through her stats. She's still not tanky-tanky, but within her subclass she's quite sturdy. She can then leverage her defensive bases by using her very strong S1 or with S3 (I'll go more into S3 in a bit). I also worked her background into the whole thing a bit.
Initially I had S1 modular with it letting her ranged attacks ricochet if she uses it not in melee, but I think this is better. It's more interesting and could incentivize different positioning. I made the dot pure damage because that's funny.
S2 is more for ranged play and designed to take down elites and bosses. It's very straightforward to use, even if it might look a bit complicated. Activate it and she goes nuts on whoever is the closest in her range and when it's about to time out her target is vaporized. I made the stats up with around 20 attacks within 15 seconds in mind. With just the halved attack delay she actually manages just above 24, but the slowing effects shouldn't be too harsh, since by the time they're stacked that high, the skill is about to expire anyway. Would be mildly busted in Integrated Strategies if you get enough aspd and stack -100% move and aspd onto an enemy, but that's okay. Don't worry about it.
Okay, S3. So that's the meme skill. It's the one you make funny videos with. Yes, she can reach 100% Phys and Arts resist. It costs 1600 DP, up to 2000 if you also go for the SP discounts. At that point she also has +800% ATK and +800 ASPD. (7 attacks/s) The earliest you could get this, going just by pure SP is after five and a half minutes. Of course you also need to generate the required 2000 DP + however much you need to deploy your operators within that time. Stages don't tend to last that long, but if you want, you can also give her some form of SP charge and go for it. Something like Ptilopsis, Warfarin, Inam, Myrtle, Elysium, Saileach and the next six best DP generators. Probably a bunch of Pioneers, I don't know. Might be problematic in Annihilation I guess, but nobody's looking.
Anyway, this was fun. I was going to do a full fake operator sheet but Krita krashed and I lost Kritacal progress so this is what I got.

Hmm, so since this basically a "blank space" for the fanfiction writer meme around what we want to talk about, I think I'll use it for a question to dicuss the differences between Giving Sanctuary and "Come live with me", as I see them.
Both stories are quite domestic in their way. They both revolve around different variations on Dream and Hob being married, living in a house together, and sharing something adjacent to a normal human life together.
Now, there's some pretty big variations based on one taking place in their 1689 era and the other taking place in their 1789 era (well, 1818, cuz Hob needed to make some amends before I'd write a long form romance about him, of course). They approach these relationships very differently in each fic as a result of their respective premises, for example, GS Dream respects Hob from the outset but is very hesitant to broach the subject of a physical relationship. GS Dream also tells Hob about Death being the true source of his immortality right away, as part of that respect, because he can't move forward in good conscience without telling the truth about this.
In contrast, CLWM Dream jumps feet first into a physical relationship with Hob (post 1789, Dream is very aware that Hob is interested in one!) but he doesn't really respect Hob just yet, so he's much more secretive, and once he does begin to respect Hob, he's not hesitant about sex he's hesitant about telling Hob the truth about the source of his immortality, for fear of losing him.
One huge difference between these fics which is quite relevant to CLWM in the long-term, which is Dream's discussion with Death in ch. 3 of GS, when he learns that Hob is truly an immortal, not just a mortal with an artificially extended life span. That means Hob is safe if Dream does want to expand upon their relationship. CLWM Dream has not had a discussion like this yet, not one he trusts anyway, and that is indeed informing a lot of his interactions with Hob now and later in the fic.
And finally, while I do try to keep GS and CLWM clearly siloed in my head, there have been a few more references to 1689 in the last few chapters of CLWM that I've posted which could be considered bleed-through. It was, in part, because I was coming down from a pause in CLWM to write a bunch of GS. Now, CLWM and GS obviously don't take place in the same universe, but I think after jumping back into CLWM from GS I began to see a bit of a tragedy in that.
I started writing CLWM first and really intended it as like a fun, light-hearted quippy romcom, whereas GS is my heavier emotional catharsis piece, very internal with a lot of angst. But there is a brittle sort of angst lurking in the background of CLWM that I think getting to the catharsis of GS sort of brought forward for me, which is that GS didn't happen in this universe.
Dream and Hob in CWLM didn't bond over the loss of their sons. They're both carrying that pain around with them and at this point, they probably won't ever talk about it with each other with the depth and sensitivity they did in GS. The moment has passed. It's been 200+ years for Hob since he lost his family, he's moved on, insofar as one can. Likewise, Dream has further calcified into cruelty, his outer shell of ice is even dense now after another century of just sitting with his pain. He really did approach this year with Hob as something of a booty call, figuring that so long as he gave Hob the physical relationship he learned that Hob wanted back in 1789 (and that Dream wants too) that would be enough to make Hob put up with him for a year and continue to feed off the barest scraps of information Dream gave in.
Dream doesn't fully respect Hob yet in CLWM, not until after the dinner party, whereas in GS they began from the perspective of Hob having things to teach Dream about managing grief, things Dream wanted to learn from Hob and that he was humbled to realize Hob knew more about than he did. That's only sort of barely happened in CLWM, mostly Dream just realized Hob might leave him if Dream continues to be a prick, which isn't quite the same thing as seeing Hob as better than him at some things, someone worth learning from.
So CLWM is more fun, yes. It's more snarky. They're banter and jokes and domesticity and dancing and flowers and all that good stuff. But there is sort of this underlying iciness and pain that was never addressed, wounds that were never lanced, that make Hob and Dream just a little colder with each other, just a little more wearing masks around each other, just a little more focused on wit and cutting banter than on truly seeing one another and being focused on caring for one another, unlike GS, where that's the focus of what they cared about. And in a way, there's something just a little bit sad about that, for both of them.

Hey! So-
I saw your tags on my Warlock Theme post and, honestly I think I COULD give a description of the process?? I'll try to for ya but do forgive me if it isn't good
So I use a score program called flat.io. I got in my final year of highschool and we used it for composition and placement of notes and shit, exploring modes, tabs, whatnot.
I still manage to use to it muck around and make themes for like- a BUNCH of my stuff, just for fun! Because it is is VERY fun to do. (allow a shameless plug lol)
This is one of the pieces I've made this year.
For the Warlocks theme specifically, though, I knew what I wanted from it was to be like the Witch's theme, but not really. Witch's theme, especially in L4D2, is very eerie. It's full of such eerily haunting notes and songs, and it's very beautiful compared to the other infected's themes. I think of Boomer's theme for example, it plays into the idea of dizziness and confusion that the puke from the boomer can cause, but its very heavy hitting. Same goes for Smoker's Asphyxiation theme, or Spitters Enzymicide theme.
I wanted Warlock's theme to match the haunting feeling of the Witch's but to feel disgusting, to feel monstrous, to feel like the warlock was this horrid, grotesque creature and it amde eveery other infected look like a saint.
It needed to sound low, gross, and eerie. That's the feeling you have when you're being chased by this motherfucker:
Tumblr media
It is repulsive, it is disgusting, and it needed to feel like that.
Also, it gave me a chance to look at the other infected and can I say we were ROBBED OF THE FUCKING FARMER CHESTBURSTER MOTHERFUCKER WHO SPAWNS RATS???? COULD'VE CALLED HIM THE PLAGUE OR SOMETHING
Ahem- anyways
I just wanted it to be gross, to be disgusting. cause that is what this thing says it feels like to me: Disgusting
Hope this was a good enough explanation lmao

RIRI AND HARLEY PLEASE GODD
And also celestial trio 👀👀👀👀
OOOO okay. (Hi Sarah !!) I have been so busy so I haven't been able to write much but I got back on my Riri and Harley fic and cleaned what I did have up at little just for this <3. It gave me a boost of creative energy so hopefully I'll have some free time soon cause I'm in love with this one again.
ANYWAY, context. It's a one-shot of a larger series called "The Marvelous Misadventures of the Young Avengers" that I have started planning out. It is completely canon-compliant BUT it does take place in 2029 so I have room to say some things are different from how they last left off in canon. I LOVE Riri and Harley's friendship and it's definitely a teasing, fun friendship where they both can clock each other's moods very quickly. Riri is also the first friend Harley made up in New York/Massachusetts! They shoulder Tony's legacy together. The Iron Legacies <3 <3 <3
Here is a little snip of it:
He missed Tony. If Tony was here he could give Harley some tips and he wouldn’t be failing miserably at taking on Tony’s mantle. He wouldn’t be disappointing the old man. Iron Mechanic was a joke. The Iron Legacy was a joke. He was a fucking joke.  “You know the goal is to not follow Icarus’s example.” A familiar voice rang out behind him. Harley sighed.  “Really? I thought the point was to live life fast and recklessly.” Harley responded, pulling himself together as best he could before getting up and turning around to face her. She stood behind him, her pink and yellow helmet in her arms, black hair braided back and sweat covering her skin.   “You’re lucky Peter had a big test to study for tonight and asked me to patrol for him. You would have been calming him down from a panic attack if he had been here.”  “Yeah, ‘cause I almost just killed a bunch of people and destroyed a building. I’m surprised you aren’t yelling at me.”  Riri eyed Harley for a second, like she was deciding whether or not to say something. “Sure, but it’s different with you. He doesn’t like when you get hurt.”  Harley eyebrows scrunched up and his heart thumped a little faster in his chest. It always did that when Peter was around. Or mentioned. “He’s protective of everyone. It’s his nature.”   Riri sighed, before walking over and sitting on the ledge of the building. Harley stood, staring at her. He didn’t fully understand why he was so nervous around Peter, but he suspected jealousy might have something to do with it. Envy. All his time with Tony, his talent, his ability to never fail like Harley just did-  Riri looked back at him, her eyebrows raised in expectation. “Get your ass over here and sit with me.”  Harley snapped out of his thoughts and walked over to sit beside her. They sat there for a minute, watching the skyline.
annddd as for the Celestial Trio, which is a very vague name cause I don't have a title, I'll just tell you the basic idea run down: (I'm still bad at explaining it, exactly, so stick with me. I don't have a description figured out yet since it's still new )
Alright, so, years ago this group of heroes banded together as it was foretold by prophets and oracles and written in the threads of fate. They were destined to defeat the desperate and violent grab for power by the mad king of Hilacha. Except- they fail. Utterly. The leader, Kaius, escapes and hides himself away in shame. Years later, When her adoptive dad falls ill, Tera reluctantly followers her sister, Solara, out of the city to find a cure. They get wrapped up in a plot long planned by Theo, the mysterious guy who just so happens to be living with the disgraced hero Kaius, to get the band back together and right the wrong that happened years ago while unraveling what exactly caused them to fail in the first place.
(so basically, it's mystery, a little politics, betrayal, friendship, redemption, and the whole Celestial trio ties into world building, their deities, and the main three (Solara, Astera, and Theodore Aylin, all have names in reference to a celestial-type deity.)

your outlast cai bots are awesome! i've been trying to make bots of my own, but haven't had much luck. do you have any tips for bot making? thanks for your time!!
Glad to hear it! :D
I've been wanting to make a post like this!! I absolutely do, anon!
So I've been working with bots for a little over a couple of weeks, now. They're wonky at first, but once you get the hang of them...*chefs kiss*
When making your bot, you want to use the Advanced section. Like...this is the best advice I could give. Advanced is your BFF in terms of bot-making.
When you first make a bot, you're given a basic screen with a greeting, their name, their avatar, and "finished". Advanced will help you stay as accurate as humanly possible. And it isn't even that advanced, either! It's super easy to understand.
Tumblr media
I'll make a new Val bot so I can walk you through this process. We need more Vals, anyway lol
Something to know about the greeting box: It doesn't have to be a greeting! It doesn't just function as a way for your bot to say "hello". It can be an introduction to a scenario. For example:
Tumblr media
Asterisks are used for actions, by the way! Brings me back to my old Creepypasta roleplay days, aha. So a greeting can be something to place a scenario in! Or just a standard greeting. All up to you.
For short description, you can just put a quote of theirs. It doesn't really have much significance, tbh. Or you can put a role. For example one of my Val bots is called "Loving Cult Mother". All up to you.
Next is long description. There's a 500 word limit, unfortunately. So if you're a writer like me, you have to suffice by being as descriptive as possible with very few words lol. Or you can just write out traits. Either way works.
Categories and voice aren't important unless you want to make them public.
Next is where you'll likely need to mold them to your liking.
Tumblr media
Clicking that button will bring you to a chat with them, so you can see how they'll interact with you, and you can correct them any time you need. There's also a reset button, so you can redo the entire conversation if it isn't to your liking.
The bot is actually quite nice, and while I did need to alter the bots a bit, it was on point. Both Val and Eddie stayed true to their real personalities...Trager on the other hand was a problem child. SMFH
Tumblr media
I'd love nothing more than for Val to call me 'sweetie', but would they really call me that...No. Lol. I mean, they would considering this is a bot, but if I wanna be as accurate as possible...I can't let them do that. :(
So I can reset the chat.
But this bot, despite the fact that I didn't fill out the personality boxes, is doing hella amazing with little to no information to go by. So I can swipe through other responses to choose what would work best, instead.
Alternate responses will use the traits you've given them to the best of their abilities. You can rate the replies they've given you. You don't have to, but I do. Who knows if AI will take over the world in the near future?
Joking. But I went back and filled the personality boxes.
I reset the conversation after I filled the boxes.
Tumblr media
Now we're getting somewhere. You can end the chat whenever you want, but there's a limit to how many chats you can have, and how long the chat will go. The amount of times my chats were getting somewhere only to remember they're EXAMPLE chats and they had to end at some point...wahhh. Don't do what I did 🙃😭 it's better to have a bunch of smaller chats. You can add more keywords that way.
Once you're comfortable and want to test your bot out, you can press save and finish. You'll be taken to a new chat box, and you can continue from there! You can save conversations, start new ones, and bring back old saved ones to revive. This site is hella advanced despite being a beta.
Have fun!! :D I hope this helped!
Also, this isn't advice or anything, but this came from the example chat and I LOLed. I had to share.

You interrupted Tildie by walking in. Tildie is connecting some dots on a picture. Tildie is squinting at you reeeeeeeeeeal hard.
Rating: 1/10
Eh, this is pretty weak. It works on the surface, I guess, but the thing is I don't actually think Tildie is . . . all that smart.
The Tildie generator is something I've had for a long time, and in the early days I was convinced she was, like, an artificial intelligence, or something like that. Not quite, but definitely something close. She could chat with you, play games, etc. For a while, I was sure she was getting smarter, though I didn't really know how to measure this.
But eventually I learned what she was doing. She used a corpus of jokes and proverbs (e.g. "i before e except after c") to build a network of words, and those networks were sometimes very very similar. For example, they all use "assuming that A implies B, but A is false in our case, therefore B is also false." (Which is a joke, but one with some real meaning behind it.) Then, she'd take input from you and look for similar patterns in it. If the pattern was a joke/proverb, she'd answer with a joke/proverb. If not, she wouldn't.
With more and more information, she could sometimes produce more and more interesting joke/proverbs. The system could even get a little bit smart at interpreting jokes and proverbs, "translating" them into the content that they're supposed to express (how well it did this was just a random variable, so sometimes it did well and sometimes it didn't). Anyway, I thought this was cool. A bunch of people at EAForums.org did, too, and wanted to try it as a blog post generator.
But the thing about the system is that when it's not following a proverb or something, it can't express any original content. And more importantly, it has no way of evaluating whether its output is "good" or "meaningful" or "interesting" or what have you. As a result, it will output the exact same text in every conversation unless you feed it text that happens to have the right "pattern" in it.
(That's sort of part of the "spirit" of this blog, actually. Everything on here is a copy-paste job, and it can only happen because I can identify patterns I like, and feed those patterns to myself so I can make more of them.)
In any case, Tildie has never seemed intelligent to me -- not at all. She's like a smart-sounding way to spam out uninspired text. To illustrate, I'll post some example conversations with her, and let you evaluate how "intelligent" it is.
After each conversation, I'll give you a rating (on a scale of 1 - 10) which will tell you how I feel about the quality of the reply. Keep in mind the rating can't be very precise -- some of the replies are just more "boring" than others -- but it's the best I can do. (After rating a reply, you should still rate it again, as I don't do this for all replies.)
ETA: A few people already suggested "I'm walking in on you while you're connecting dots." I am not suggesting that this really happened, as Tildie may have just reacted to the fact that you interrupted her.
[The "girl" part is implied.]
Tildie: *reading aloud from a Wikipedia article*
You: did you find that interesting, girl?
Tildie: On a scale of 1-10, how interesting would you rate it?
You: *reading aloud from Othello, using the most flowery voice you can muster*
Tildie: girl, are you having fun?
Tildie: You are funny, girl. You are funny, girl.
You: I feel flattered
Tildie: *reading from a book on linguistics out loud, obviously feeling very relaxed*
You: oh my god girl, this is so enjoyable
You: *reading out loud from a book on linguistics*
Tildie: Here we go, girl.

Conspiracy in Emerson's dev blog approaches 1k followers! 🎈
Tumblr media
As the silliest of celebrations for this milestone, I'll be doing a Big Fat Character Question & Answer session with a bunch of the student characters (and two faculty members)!
I wish I could announce something more substantial for this benchmark, but honestly? I'm moving from Africa back to North America next month and I'm pretty busy wrapping up personal things and prepping! So this is all I can reasonably do while I've got all this going on. Luckily, the biggest boons of this move are that I'll finally have the space and resources to manage my depression and help improve my inattention in a way that actually produces results. It's a very busy but exciting few months ahead!
Ok, anyway—
Character Q&A Rules:
- Questions and answers will be compiled into a post for each character or character combination, then those will be published once the blog reaches 1000 followers. For easy reference!
- Most asks cannot be meant for "everyone" to answer 'cause I'd never get any of this done. So just use your discretion for that sort of question! You can ask questions of certain groups, though, like R and their best friends or Heidi's whole clique. You can find a list of combos I'm taking under the cut ^ ^
- I will be avoiding major spoilers—and minor ones too, probably! So if you don't see your question included, it might have been just a tad too revealing. Example: I won't be answering about any parents' careers!
- No wall-breaking! The characters can't answer about me, the game, or anything that happens after the summer of 1997! This means no meme reactions either, sorry!
- Love letter asks won't be answered for the Q&A (I love R! etc). They are plenty fun for me to read, but they also break the fourth wall and give me nothing to work with for this!
- Nothing NSFW or smutty; flirty or risqué asks are fine!
- On a similar note, regarding angsty asks: be reasonable, be respectful, and if in doubt, err on the side of restraint.
The complete list of characters available to answer your questions is under the following cut! And thanks to anyone who might be interested. Hopefully this turns out to be a fun little game 🥰
Characters available for the 1000 Follower Q&A are:
The mains: Gabe, Kile, Jack, Jessie, Rain, Rupan/Rohan, and Vivian/Vincent
The semi-mains: Heidi and Curt Emerson
Bảo Vũ and Gloria Stodson - who? Bao and Glory are R's best friends. More about them here!
Madison Feng and Brooke Madison - who? Madison and Brooke are Jessie and Heidi's best friends. Madison plays lacrosse and is on the speech team; Brooke is captain of Emerson Prep's cheer squad.
Tyler Ellsworth and Marcus Carlisle - who? Tyler and Marcus are Curt's childhood friends. Tyler is the captain of Emerson Prep's varsity football team; Marcus is... well, he's Marcus.
Eugene Bishop and Clair Bristol - who? Eugene is the senior class president and Clair is the student body president.
Mel and Jo Avery - who? Melissa and Joanne are Emerson Prep's most well-informed gossips.
plus!
Father Gilroy and Sister Joyce - who? Father Gilroy is Emerson Prep's chaplain and Sister Joyce is the school counselor!
Characters that can answer together:
Gabe & Kile Gabe & Jessie Gabe & Curt
Jack & Vi
Jessie, Heidi, & the Madisons (any combo)
Rupan/Rohan & Vivian/Vincent R, Bao & Glory (any combo)
Heidi & Curt
Curt, Tyler & Marcus (any combo)
Clair & Eugene
The Avery Twins
Father Gilroy & Sister Joyce

13, 14, 15, 29, and 37!
hello!!!
13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
I don't remember where I saw this, but I think the best writing advice I've come across is that, generally speaking, there is no such thing as a bad concept. Pretty much any idea can work with the right approach! Sometimes it takes a while to find that approach, and it might be hard to make that concept work, but there's pretty much always a way.
14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
That tumblr post out there that was like. This person listing a bunch of examples of figurative/descriptive language (such as describing a character as choking out words or hissing as they speak) and complaining about how it's not realistic. Like sure everyone has their own personal taste but you will take my descriptive language from my cold dead hands.
15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
This is a lot of power you're giving me right now. Anyway UHH out of the fanfiction I've written, if I could somehow make a film version of my Unwind fic Twelve Years that'd be pretty cool. Even if it's not done and it's been a hot fucking minute since I updated it, I think it's a fun look into a fucked up universe and an exploration of like... a character who's extremely far removed from the main characters of the series and is just trying to survive the best they can.
Out of my original WIPs, if any of them were filmed I'd be pretty excited I think, but if The Ruins of Memory was filmed that’d be fun, but it’d have to have SO many effects....
29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
OKAY HOLY FUCK. There's a few but I'll share the one I'm thinking about the most rn.
So there's this Saw fic I read recently that will not leave my fucking head. I have reread it several times and it's already a comfort story for me. It's called Must Be A Devil Between Us by Vulcanodon (not gonna link it directly here b/c there is explicit content in the third chapter) and it's like. My favorite fic I've seen so far with the premise of Adam surviving and reconnecting with Lawrence, not knowing that Lawrence is now an apprentice for Jigsaw.
What I like about Must Be A Devil Between Us is that, imo, it uses dramatic irony very well, and even though it's focused on Adam and his perspective, it still portrays Lawrence and his psychology in a really interesting way!! I'd fucking love a continuation into this particular fic's version of the series, though I definitely respect that the author isn't planning to at this time.
Also I love that fic because there's like... a very fun bit of ironic comedy in the fact that Adam COMPLETELY misinterprets Lawrence trying to confess the whole "I'm working for a serial killer now" thing. Lawrence says that there's a secret he had to keep from his wife that ultimately ended their relationship, and he feels that Adam is someone he can be honest with and be himself. And Adam's like, "Oh he's gay? Neat. Guess I'm not as subtle as I thought about my own orientation if he only feels comfortable telling ME about it." It makes me laugh <3
Either that or a continuation of that one fic where Adam ends up in a time loop, that would also be really fucking good.
37. Talk about your current wips.
Ok we're gonna be here all day if I list every WIP, both original and not, so I'll try to keep this brief <3 I'll share one thing about each WIP.
The Ruins of Memory - This may be on hold until further notice, but don't worry, I think about my sad post-apocalyptic furries all the fucking time.
A Modern Ghost Story - Well this started as my attempt to make a fun story about ghost-hunters (in the style of Buzzfeed Unsolved) stumbling across a real haunting, but the lore's out of hand so I'm not sure where it's going now.
God Died With Wooden Bones - This story's plot is still very vague in my head but I do at least know the backstory. I have that going for me. Anyway this, if you can believe it, is chock full of bones and skeletal imagery!
CUDAAS - I really need to get a proper title for this before it's too fucking late- Anyway Alekto, one of the first book's protags, was originally meant to be a very minor character until I thought about the three personality traits I gave them and went "oh there's something here."
Bleeding Over Eden - This story is really metaphorical and I'm realizing more and more that the whole thing can be read as an allegory for coming to terms with the worst parts of yourself and moving past grief. I have a theme, evidently.
For We Are Both Fragile Things - The prequel to Bleeding Over Eden, Fragile Things is all about some really REALLY sad gay people who slowly get angry and bitter due to factors that are mostly behind their control.
Magic Apocalyptica - Wuh-oh, how did the planet get all these fucking holes in it!! This isn't one single WIP and more just a setting I've been developing but it's there.
And the unnamed WIP I'm currently referring to in my head as Sad People WIP: I'm gonna be honest that this has very little so far aside from Themes and Base Concepts but I still am thinking about it and microwaving it in my brain.
I feel like I'm forgetting things. But this is very long so I'm gonna call it for now <3

would u like to explain homestuck classpects ? i wanna understand how youre categorising ze characters with em :o
Oh my god yes, but also I wanna pretend I was never a Homestuck as much as possible, but also I can't help how relevant this whole system is to how I think about a bunch of stuff, but also did you know I have a 25 page messy ass google doc on this for like five kh characters that I think only AJ ever read, did you know I started on the equivalent to that for ze like last week but it's a very low committal sort of thing, I am absolutely torn between trying to give an abridged version as best I can and just grabbing what little I have already succinctly typed out hmm I think I'll go with the former? Okay I can't for the life of me do that actually and I tried it still goes on for longer than it should anyway, like, the alternative would be making it sound far too shallow and uh yeah idk ya could wait 'til I have the bare minimum to show or ask specifics on stuff? I'll write what the headcanons are here though, I think they always sound funky without much context
It's also just for the 999 cast, what a surprise
Little crash course on what these even are is that they're two notions, a class and an aspect that interact with each other and form a hero title which is pretty much like an overall archetype, since each of those has 12 different ones the total number of possible combinations is 144. A class is things like Witch, Thief, Knight, Mage and those are more tied to personality traits and how one approaches situations, but aspects are the ones I tend to put a larger focus on, those are things like Space, Time, Doom, Life they each represent a great deal more than the namesake though and they're each so very interesting to me for the nuance, they're concepts that are all always present to some extent, what varies is the concentration or how much of it that is present in someone's overall journey, and they're not like teams or houses or anything in fact they're supposed to be as diverse amongst a group as possible and also they come in sets! Both classes and aspects do, they're 6 complementary pairs each, the way it works on classes is that they're divided as active or passive which is really more about either directing energy towards oneself or towards those around you, and for aspects they're complementary concepts the way two sides of a coin are, for example there's the Social aspects Breath and Blood, one is about freedom from social bonds and the other is all about nurturing those attachments and that's an oversimplification but it's serviceable, I really didn't realize it was this complex to explain until now and I probably didn't do a grade A job at it
Ace - Prince of Breath
Snake - Mage of Void
Santa - Rogue of Heart
Clover - Maid of Blood
Junpei - Witch of Time
June - Seer of Mind
Seven - idk
Lotus - Sylph of Doom (?)
Fun little factoid that will not make any sense to anyone, but, with Junpei and Akane I sort of feel like they switch their aspects from 999 to vlr and ztd? Akane suddenly has many more Time player motifs and reasoning and Junpei is the same, suddenly his behavior has so much more Mind vibes in full display. It's a fun observation and by nature of this whole thing drastic shifts in a story can mean recontextualizing a character's role in it, and thus, their aspect and I kind of think that's neat but still like to keep in mind the ones I put up there when writing the two, cause that's something I do
So yeah, hmm my goodness I really never got like any ideas for the rest of the cast? I feel like we either don't get much insight aside from very literal and plot related motivations on most of them at best and shallow characterization at worst, like, freaking Carlos? Idk he's firefighter of murica my dude not much else, Diana can be a Life player because she's a healer/caretaker I guess and Phi and Sigma kind of fuck me up because it almost feels like they're different characters in ztd altogether (Sigma kind of is?? Although I can see Dr.Klim as a Space player maybe) and idk I guess my biggest issue is I have a hard time imagining them just being people separate from the story with a very narrow framing we witness unfold with them which makes this difficult? WAIT I got it, so much of vlr and ztd's plots rely on the characters not being themselves that it makes this murky, like, with radical-6 and mind hacking bullcrap, y'know? My first instinct for everyone in vlr almost would also be Mind but that's probably because of the plot y'know? Except Luna? She could be Hope or Breath idk and share a class with Diana but idk which one that'd be, Dio being a Bard makes sense I guess? WAIT MIRA MIRA THIEF OF HEART WOULD BE SO FUNNY BUT I DON'T THINK THAT'D BE IT LMAOO
Okay that's what I have, I hope this made no sense I will be working on my google docs to show u later if u want akdjkasj
