*Cracks knuckles* Anon, first of all, thank you for asking. In this dissertation, I’ll unravel all the moments Ray made me pause for a second or ten because he looked absolutely out of this world hot/seductive/enchanting/surreal. For the purposes of this, I’ll try not to overlap my Ray’s greatest hits with Sarah’s, who has already pointed out some excellent moments here. I agree with basically every one of her choices, but it’s not like we lacked on hot scenes from Ray. Because I’ll take every opportunity I have to gif Only Friends because at the time it was airing, I didn’t possess the skills to do a thing for the show, I certainly have a gifset queued for later this evening, and I hope it shows up 😀. Now, without further ado, let’s begin.

1. Checking Sand out after he lit his cigarette, episode 1.

Already starting by doing something I said I wouldn’t do, but listen, right when Sand walks off after lighting his cigarette, Ray just looks at him and checks him out with such a laid-back charm. You can clearly see he’s getting ready to hunt and his eyes are on his prey. Honestly, 10/10, no notes, super-hot.

2. Stop playing and tell me what you wanna tell me, episode 6.

If I’m not mistaken, SandRay only has three scenes in episode 6 and this one is the least angry one. Ray has been trying to reach Sand who has been actively ignoring him after the disaster at Sand’s apartment (when he was going to get birthday sex and instead got, I’m my crush’s second option). Suddenly, Sand contacts him and he thinks they’ll finally reconcile, but instead he’s faced with Sand trying to manipulate him by using his feelings for Mew. Ray ain’t stupid, he acts on his emotions quick and hot, but he knew he was being played, and right there when he sighs and rolls his eyes and forces Sand to go to the point? Quite hot.

3. Smoking in the bathtub with Sand, episode 11.

How do I describe this one? Maybe it’s the peacefulness in Ray and like, the genuine happiness from having cleared the misunderstanding with Sand and with no immediate issues in sight (we don’t count the substances abuses for this) that simply makes him glow. His hot score is high. His attractiveness score is high. Happy Ray makes him look hot.

4. Deal with him or I’ll do it myself, episode 12.

Possessive and mad Ray will always have a place in my heart. In this one, he was not only pissed, but he was also fucking insecure the man he recently realized he was in love with was going to ditch him for the hot muscular ex-boyfriend, and he still had in it him to say if you’re going to pick him let me know but if you pick me, deal with this quick or I’ll do it my way. So good.

5. The boy is mine, episode 2.

Ray being a little shit is one of my favorite types of Ray. In this case, it’s a good type of little shit because here he is making sure for the first time in his and Sand’s relationship that Sand will chose him before anyone else. The little satisfied smirk as Amm walks off because he won? Amazing. We love confidence.

6. Take the shirt off me, episode 5.

What a fucking menace, Ray Pakorn. He wanted to be fucked the whole day that day but unfortunately, Sand is working class man and had places to be and things to do. Doesn’t mean Ray can’t get his way, and he will get his way some way or another. When he told Sand to take his very tight shirt off him, I was already at the other side of the room screaming silently. I appreciate Sand’s self-control. I would have none.

7. Stop fooling yourself, Sand, episode 8.

I don’t know how many of you are traumatized by episode 8. For me, it’s pure suffering. Maybe it’s also because discourse that week literally anywhere was insufferable. But anyway, Joker!Ray is a nightmare. He’s drunk and high and very out of his mind but stay with me a little bit. The I can have feelings for as many people as I want thing? Problematic? Yes, but also kind of hot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

8. He could convince you to kill someone or at least help him get rid of the body with his eyes alone, episode 8.

Ray being a little shit has a certain charm, we must agree on that. You have to admit that you need a certain level of confidence and lack of shame to show up to the person you didn’t pick and say, “hey, how about you help me with community service, hun?” And Sand folded like a wet piece of paper, and do you know why? Because Ray had his best pleading for cock 🥺 eyes on, and he was so charming and so manipulative, and so attractive. (I mean, the poking thing? It’s endearing.)

9. Just Ray, episode 2.

I think this is a serious case of lone wolf hotness or something. There’s just something especially attractive about Ray being by himself near the pool, with his sunglasses and a flask.

10. Watching Sand, episode 3.

Sand knows for sure how to fuck someone good, because Ray followed this man looking for a round 2 since that morning they woke up together, and he was sure he’d get that when he invited Sand to play at the hostel’s party. He had eyes on Sand up until Boston reminded him he should have feelings for Mew or whatever. He’s just exhaling hot energy. Let’s never forget the scene we didn’t have of Ray throwing his cup after his “confrontation” with Top, too.

The QAF gifsets you keep posting are really making me want to break out my box sets and rewatch the series. Now that the Olympics are over, I may not be able to resist any longer. But ugh it's so hard to watch knowing that Brian and Justin don't end up together. Hated that decision so much.

@sophsun1 is AMAZING and has been posting so many beautiful, perfectly colored, high quality gifs every day that i literally cannot keep up with them haha. i've been queueing so many gifsets so that i don't flood you all with a billion gifsets at once, but i am so thrilled that it is reminding so many QAF fans about how great the show is! the gifseries is definitely making ME consider pulling out my own boxset to do my first rewatch in years.

re:the ending, i definitely read it more as a "not never, just not now" situation for brian/justin. i know brian is VERY open ended "whether we see each other next weekend or never again, it's just time" but like. given everything that happened in their relationship and how obvious it is that brian loved justin, i think the "never again" comment is just him being a little flippant and deferring to his usual attempt at downplaying his own commitment out of comfort. i personally think that man was on a flight to NYC basically as soon as he left babylon lol. i definitely agree that i wish they were just definitively together at the end, but i also think the ending feels very true to brian and justin—and i DO appreciate brian recognizing that justin deserves to spread his wings and really give NYC a shot.

I am so grateful to the new mods that whumptober is continuing and I recognize how massive this event is, how much time goes into planning and running something on this scale. I have a massive amount of appreciation for themcause I certainly couldnt handle it. And I love them for doing it. I do.

But it feels like they only thought of this event as a writing event and that irks me. This prompt list is so hard for gifmakers. It's great for writing and I'm glad a lot of writers are feeling inspired but as gifmaker my heart sunk further and further with each days prompt I read. How on earth am I supposed to come with enough scenes for a compilation gifset for these prompts? Hell, I can't even come up with a single scene for a lot of these. Even the alternates are a challenge so I can't even use those to help me.

I don't know. I'm not giving up though!! I'm gonna figure something out for each day even if it's only vaguely related to the prompt! Still, it's a little discouraging reading these prompts. Feels like sometimes people forget that the whump community is fandom community and not just a writing community. There is so much more to this community than writing and I wish that was acknowledged more sometimes. Not to diss writers! I'm a writer! I love whump writers! Y'all are amazing! But being a gifmaker it can make me sad sometimes that people think of the community as strictly a writing community when it's more than that.

Ugh sorry for being a downer. I'm struggling here. I don't want to repeat scenes I've giffed before but it's not looking good. I know I'm gonna have to repeat scenes cause I just don't have any other examples. I was really hoping for specific tropes instead of vague ideas this year.

A fun bit of serendipity, I never actually intended on there being 101 steps to Seduction 101 at all. It just so happened to fall in that way; I realised it around step 80 or so that I'd get to 101 by the part of the scene that's coming up next, because I was sitting in a holiday cottage rewatching The Eclipse and absently jotting down timestamps, then when I was transcribing them to my gifset SSOD, I realised I got to 101 exactly at that particular point.

What made you really like interested in the Terror?

the terror is a show that i remember being vaguely aware of existing when it came out, but i had no real idea of how or where to watch it. i knew it starred jared harris, who i'd loved in mad men and chernobyl, so i definitely WANTED to watch it. i had a vague understanding that it had some sort of eldritch horror thing going on, which appealed to me since i was into the magnus archives at the time. but it was just one of those shows that like, i'd occasionally see a gifset for on tumblr or see mentioned on twitter and would go, "oh yeah, i still want to watch that."

anyway, then last like, august 2022?? i was in a weird mood, was watching a bunch of different videos about mysterious histories, and watched a video about the dyatlov pass incident. it happened in russia so i rewatched chernobyl, but it ALSO happened in winter and the combination of the story taking place in winter, the unknown horror elements that people grip onto, and my own rewatch of chernobyl which put jared harris at the forefront of my mind, reminded me of the existence of the terror and i googled where to stream it and lucked out that i happened to look when it was on hulu. i decided to give it a shot, put on the first episode, and then promptly binged the entire season in a single night.

as for why it gripped me so much and why i'm here giffing it daily 1.5 years later? definitely the inherent tragedy of it all. the what-if's that live rent free in my mind. the tuunbaq aspect of it is probably the least interesting to me—i like the added horror elements, but really i'm more preoccupied/interested in the human horror.

i tried reading the book but gave up about halfway through—around the point when fitzjames died? but really i think i gave up on it when i decided that i preferred the show's version of carnivale—the inherent horror of stanley setting himself and the tent on fire as this act of murder/suicide, this demented attempt at saving them all from a fate much worse, the guilt that fitzjames feels for it all...so much more interesting to me than the book's version of tuunbaq showing up to fuck shit up.

fitzier is definitely appealing to me and i've read a good number of amazing fics about them. the fandom itself is wonderful, and i LOVE reading the tags on all the gifsets i post and the ones i reblog from others. i'm not sure if i would have gone out of my way to gif the terror myself if a RL friend hadn't found out i was recently obsessed with it and offered to send me his copies, but i'm v glad he did. it's been fun v slowly re-watching the show while giffing almost every single frame of the season. i also just really appreciate that this is a finite story told in a single season.

i got this little reply for my cgi jack frost appreciation gifset and god i need excuses to talk about the devil summoner tv show because it’s actually fucking insane. so @blazescompendium i must thank you because i have some reason to talk about my videya gayme hyperfixations yay.

now i haven’t seen all of it, since i haven’t been able to find all the episodes (let alone translated), but if you want an interesting piece of megaten history and/or are in the mood for an old campy tv drama this is. certainly a show. it is slow bc drama and there’s a lot of not great acting but it has its moments. a warning that the show is nsfw. there’s a ton of fetish scenes (i’m not joking and it’s really uncomfortable i’m not a fan) but it’s kinda funny to think about since megaten is pretty tame for the most part when it comes to suggestive stuff. there’s also some gore in there. some translated episodes are included in this playlist but not all. there’s also no dvd release—it’s only on vhs, so if you’re looking for high quality clips you won’t get them.

(ps i can’t find any way to watch the full show currently but i will probably update this post if i find some way or someone provides a link to all episodes.)

-actually the cgi was worked on by tsuburaya entertainment, a special effects studio WHO WORKED ON THE OF ULTRAMAN AND SUBSEQUENT SEQUEL SERIES. they still do ultraman stuff too which is amazing to me.

-and no the cgi isn’t the best. the show is noticeably low budget and the cgi especially reflects that. it’s incredibly slow and if you’re looking for a lot of demon appearances i’m sorry you won’t get many. the gump doesn’t show up until episode 5 anyways and don’t think you’ll see it get used. most of the show is just talking.

no translation for this episode that i can find but i’m 99% sure this is the first episode jack frost shows up in. it’s byotiful.

-while it follows the plot of the game for the most part, it diverts in a lot of ways. lore surrounding the kuzunoha isn’t explored much, and it’s kinda a prequel in some ways??? but also not really???? the second season is apparently way different.

-you get to see this shot in the first episode

-most of the show is kyouji doing nothing and aside from the crap cgi that’s the best part. seeing him be more of an asshole. just skip to those scenes since they’re funny.

literally the only things that are entertaining unless you’re into slow burn drama are the absurd parts but those bits are so amazing it’s kinda worth it. unfortunately that does include the nsfw which yeah. watch the first episode and you’ll figure out if you’re gonna like it or not. also cozy and kaneko make appearances in the first episode as well so the show has their stamp of approval. kaneko has stated his favorite branch of megaten is devil summoner (which same here ngl) and if you know about how he used to be pretty into night life stuff that somehow explains a lot of how the crazier parts of the show turned out. the writers have a lot of explaining to do.
