*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?
tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.

sometimes being the director of the buddy cole documentary is an emotional rollercoaster for reasons entirely unrelated to actual controversy with the character
basically. this morning paramount took down the comedy central website and made every link redirect to paramount plus (which i do not have). previously you could find clips from every time buddy cole was a correspondent on the colbert report for free on the comedy central website, but not only are those free clips no longer up, paramount plus doesn't even have the colbert report.
so even if this craven attempt to get people to pay ransom subscribe to their streaming service worked, they didn't even take the clips with them!!!
so i was in mourning for a solid few hours this morning bc like if i'd known this was going to happen i would have at least screen-recorded each of the segments even if it meant the audio sync was a little off. but i had no idea this was going to happen and now yet another piece of buddy cole media was lost forever. and i'm used to having gaps in my timeline. stuff like scottland and the lowest show i've only been able to watch bc bellini happened to have a dvd he could digitize. and stuff like the buddy cole funny or die clips, out on the edge, and the ctv royal wedding special i may never see. but when something like this happens in real time after i've already dedicated myself to preserving and documenting the works of buddy cole, it really stings
i know i shouldn't feel like i somehow "failed buddy" for not preserving these episodes. i had no idea comedy central's parent company was going to throw out so much of their content, we're just in a literal hellscape with regards to how corporations value art. but i can't help but feel a little protective of buddy - not protective in terms of controversy, per se, controversy is a natural reaction to everything scott does with buddy cole and i don't always have to agree with everything the character stands for. i've already gotten a taste of being in my own buddy cole controversy, and it was horrible but it also felt like this is what's supposed to happen because we're now able to have this conversation. but being completely forgotten? that doesn't feel natural one bit even though it keeps happening to so much of this character's timeline.
anyway, i pasted the links into the wayback machine and even tho it could load the interface it couldn't load the videos. i found a record of each episode on the internet archive but they're all chopped into 1-2 minute clips, there's an option to "borrow" full episodes and have them mail you a flashdrive but i have no idea how that works and if i'd then be allowed to copy the episodes onto my own computer. i eventually found the colbert report is still available to purchase on itunes for $1.99 per episode - i'd need four specific episodes so that would be more like $8, which isn't too bad, but still stings just on principle. plus, what if that iTunes interface goes down someday? the only colbert report dvds are "best of" and even if i think buddy cole is the best part of anything he's in, the people making the dvds probably don't.

oh the tachigin dynamic hits harder after reading o-gin.. the idea of "i'd rather go to hell than be holy if that's what it takes to be with you",, o-gin's betrayal of her adoptive parents and her religion for the sake of spending eternity with her biological parents even if that means going to hell. and her adoptive parents following that same path, forsaking their religion to be with their daughter. vs tachihara ultimately choosing the mafia over the hunting dogs, choosing the black lizard, choosing gin, over Goodness. choosing to stay in the dark, choosing to serve and die under mori. just like his brother. and jouno and teruko follow his lead, forsaking their mantel of hunting dog, forsaking fukuchi's trust they will ally with him. gin's namesake character committing the ultimate betrayal, only for gin to be faced with the ultimate betrayal by their closest friend. like atonement for a past life they have no knowledge of. like it was always supposed to happen this way, like gin cannot escape betrayal no matter which universe they find themself in

since ive been writing abt Saburo a lot, one of my hcs is hes kinda a bit like Caesar in fnv in how lax he acts "relax, i'm fucking with you"
i also think he might enjoy some level of comedy, he may be old but he's not dead (LOL HAAA) he sees charm in people, he's not entirely inside his own head
was a complete whirlwind to wind up as a relic stuck in a rando commoner's head and not get his way At All, was a first for him. wanted to get off mr bones wild ride, man, dont we all?
other hcs:
doesn't approve of recreational drugs, certainly not for his employees showing up to work high. in 150+ years, tho i think he's had to have smoked something at least once. c'mon
does believe in ghosts, and to Cel specifically: "you shouldn't be messing with things of that nature"
not really hc but he's prone to changes of mood and angry outbursts, evident by how opposite and stoic Kei was compared to him. depending on how well the company was doing would affect his spirits
AFTER his relic resurrection via Yorinobu, his mood swings got worse as one of the side effects of the still """trial phase""" tech. Hanako gets to experience what it's like to care for ur crazy parent and make the more rational decisions irt the company.
hell, for all we know, this could've been Hanako's plan the entire time. she wanted to be free to make her own decisions yet still ran to daddy when the going got rough. but if she knew the relic prototype was gonna be a hot mess, she could then become his caretaker while feigning that he's still totally in control. paving peace w militech and NUSA could've been her doing. but who knows! /shrug
i also think that he would probably hire high end whores to get his rocks off, but he also doesn't seem to crave companionship seeing as he didn't have Kei till he was 61. and hasn't remarried since 1999. granted he was like "michiko was my fave wife, can never replace her. rip" man is married to his work. hate wakes him up.
OH i also think being in his son's body is super weird and gives him a bit of an existential crisis. not even Hanako can look at him the same bc all she sees is her brother. he differentiates by wearing his round glasses instead of Yori's square frames

What’s a bit that sums up your take on a character?
Logan is a walking, talking encyclopedia. Unravel him, and sheets of facts and reason fly out in reams. He houses the library of all the knowledge ever gained in Thomas’ lifetime. He is Logic, but he is more than that. He is also the Curiosity that killed the cat. He is the drive that causes humans to seek to learn more. He is not Emotions. Curiosity is a desire, not an Emotion. But to say that he is made up of cold, hard facts and nothing else, would be a lie.
(He does not lie—his role is not the Deceiver. Morality is the Conscious, Roman is the Dreamer, and Anxiety is the Watchdog while Logic is the Rationality. He is the tools used to ward off lies and deceptions.)
No human is made up of pure logic. He also encompasses subjective logic—for example, Crofter’s Jam is objectively the best jam there is. Over the years, Thomas has tasted jams of all flavors, and out of all of them, Crofter’s was the most satisfying. Therefore, Crofter’s is the only jam he will put in his belly.
But something silly like jam is only personal opinion. It is not a universal truth—not everyone thinks Crofter’s is the best. Yet very idea of someone disliking Crofter’s is inconceivable to him.
He is imperfect and flawed and he’s all too well aware of his shortcomings. It’s why he always pushes Thomas to learn more. New knowledge opens the avenue to a better understanding of the world around them. The more that Thomas understands, the more Logan can lead him down the right path.
He thinks that perhaps if he can know everything, he never has to deal with the unknown. The unknown is a frustrating entity to him. It is a variable in a math problem that has no solution. He doesn’t like not knowing things. Or rather, he doesn’t like others knowing things he doesn’t. His whole purpose is to know everything, after all. That is his place in the puzzle.
(Deep down inside, Logan realizes this line of thought is illogical. There is no way he can know everything. But he thinks perhaps he’ll the one to prove everyone wrong.)
As the bastion of all knowledge, it is Logan’s job to lead Thomas and the others on the correct path. He finds it hard, at times, for his sensible thoughts to be heard over the racket of the others’ nonsensical chatter. He knows they all serve a purpose, but he is certain that his purpose is more important than the others.
Thomas was a scientist before he pursued a creative career—as such, Logan is all too familiar with making a hypothesis and testing its’ validity. He has discovered that if he curbed his enthusiasm, his more subjective logic, and maintained a cold exterior, he is more likely to be listened to.
Logan goes months on top of months finding success with this method. Until, suddenly the hard-earned respect slips through his fingers. He doesn’t understand. It can’t be his fault. He is Logic, he is the smartest, he is the important out of them all. -Essence of Logic, unfinished wip

I had an interesting dream last night! I will put it under a readmore, as it is quite horrific.
I don't remember the details, and also there is probably Dream Logic, so it might be a little strange.
There was a man who was in love with his sister and he was obsessively fixated on her. When she died, she became an angry and vengeful spirit due to her treatment, and would torment her brother and the women he would try to lure in as her "replacement". At some point, one of the "replacement" women gets put in the sister's skin and becomes possessed by the sister's spirit.
The "replacement" woman ends up in the hospital on an operating table. She is awake and conscious as the surgeon is cutting into various parts of her body. She can't feel any of it due to it being a flesh-suit. You can see her own decaying skin being revealed underneath.
Once the "replacement" woman is free from the sister's flesh, the sister's spirit leaves her and she "wakes up" to find herself as a decaying corpse. She is horrified and screaming and begging to change back.
That concludes that portion of my dream. I hope you enjoyed it!

I know I posted about Goncharov and Defunctland last night, but that was an earnest desire to see this trend examined under a microscope because it’s fascinating to see it escape containment.
However, while I know most folks are just having a bit of fun with it, the number of people complaining that others are “ruining” the joke by tagging it for unreality is too damn high.
I’ve answered far too many asks in private in the last 24 hours from folks with psychosis begging me to tell them if Goncharov is real or not because they trust me, someone they don’t know beyond my medical advocacy posts, not to lie to them.
So in case you need this: No, Goncharov is not real. It’s Tumblr having a bit of fun with a made up gangster story premise from the 1970s. Most of the gifsets you are seeing are from The Godfather and some other 70s and early 80s films. The musical scores are being composed by some very talented people here on Tumblr, as is most of the art and quotes.
I’m sorry if people are telling you it is real and are refusing to reassure you when you admit it’s causing you distress. Some people are just taking things too far for the bit and aren’t acting with kindness. I hope they will reconsider.
If you were unaware that the Goncharov is causing some people some considerable distress, that’s okay. Tumblr is huge and you can’t be expected to know everything, but please do tag all your posts and reblogs with unreality to assure people that it’s part of the site-wide joke.
If you’re one of the people complaining that tagging it with unreality “ruins” the joke, please reconsider and examine why your enjoyment of people’s distress is necessary to your enjoyment of an otherwise fun and crowd sourced bit that many people are having fun with without being cruel.
Anyway, go have fun you creative little gremlins. Just do it with more kindness.
