VIKTOR AND JAYCE ARE AMONG THE characters who changed the most, both physically and psychologically, over the span of Arcane. They start off as close colleagues and friends, working together in a Piltover lab. They end up making radically different choices and eventually drift into radically different directions with radically different end games. Jayce and Viktor represent two sides of the same coin, with shifting views on power and the use of hextech. "When Christian told us about Viktor and Jayce, he used Apple as a comparison," Fortiche's Pascal Charrue said. "You had Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Wozniak would be Viktor: He's the true genius who creates Apple, whereas Steve Jobs is its public face, like Jayce is the public face of hextech."

The writing team greatly benefited from the input of Amanda Overton, who not only is an avid gamer (though not so much League of Legends as Teamfight Tactics, "just to kind of familiarize myself more with the characters and the fans," she said) but had studied molecular biology and been a geneticist in a previous life. "I was able to draw on my science background to inform Viktor and Jayce, and their relationship and understanding," Overton said. "One of the lines Jayce says to Ambessa is that failure is ninety-seven percent of science or something, I was like, 'Yeah, I wrote that because thate what science is: No one understands that science is ninety-seven percent failure.'"

Even with all the metas I have read/written, there is still an aspect of Jayces character I can't make up my mind about: Why does he only react so strongly to Viktors death after the attack on the council room? I know he is shown to be sad before, when he finds out Viktor doesn't have much longer to live. But it's a very normal, natural reaction that I believe anyone would have to their best friend being declared terminally ill. Whereas performing necromancy, leaving your job and staying holed up next to your friends "corpse" for days (weeks? idk how long it actually is), is NOT something that most people would do. So, why the change? The only thing that I have come up with that has made sense to me, is that Jayce is not very good at reading his own emotions. So basically he only realized how losing Viktor actually affected him after he already had. Or, the other plausible option: He did not really believe Viktor would actually die and in the back of his mind held on to the hope that they would somehow find a cure. But then again, why didn't he have a stronger reaction when Viktor told him to destroy the Hexcore? Did he believe they still had other options? OR was he already consciously lying to Viktor in that moment, thinking he would still use it on him, if no other solution turned up and that's why he didn't protest? Or am I not missing anything and it's actually just the writing that makes this seem so strange? Maybe they did not want to show him reacting more (even if it doesn't make as much sense), to heighten the dramatics of the council room + resurrection scene. If you have a take on this, I'd love to read it!

Well said! these people are really stupid and hypocritical, like I can't believe there are still people who actually think Silco helped Zaun and all this bullshit, this character killed an entire family for control, made kids work in dangerous factories, harmed his people with shimmer and paid enforcers to kill anyone who opposed him, what kind of help or liberation are these people talking about? I'm sure he manipulated them too like he did with Jinx lol

he hurt and killed innocent zaunites and then acted like he was acting in their best interests just because he was fighting for sovereignty as if that didn’t primarily serve him as he was the main person who stood to gain from that

he flooded the lanes with shimmer and oppressed his own people by taking advantage of their situations to utilize child labor in his factories

he lured a group of KIDS into a trap and then proceeded to kill two of them before having a third arrested and thrown in prison for nearly a decade while he groomed the fourth into a weapon for him to use

he may have loved jinx, but he manipulated her and raised her to be self doubting and exacerbated her mental health issues to the point where she was wholly reliant on him
