Since this is a good space to go on and talk for a long time, i wanted to discuss my pieces for Art Fair 14C today.
The orange:
These three pieces are rooted deeply in eco-brutalism. The venom-like orange drips menacing and foreboding, equal parts inspired by soviet brutalist architecture and the chaos magic practice of sigil crafting.
The urge to create a symbol that manifests something into reality, a sign that MEANS SOMETHING, while not universal, is a common desire. It is a practice that, I personally feel helps me to connect to the past while planning for my future.
Many people find brutalist architecture to be boring, ugly, an eyesore. There will be photos of blank, featureless soviet buildings, with no inhabitants or surroundings, and all anyone can say is, oh, how ugly. However, to me, these don't exist in a vacuum. A granny will put a flowerbox on her balcony. Another neighbor will hang up the laundry to dry. Maybe you'll get moss or some green climbing thing growing. Maybe some seeds will take root in the cracks of the cheap, shoddily made concrete. People will be born there, live there, die there, and the echoes of their laughter and the stains of their tears will color the walls and the stairwells.
I felt the urge to bring brutalist architecture and chaos magic mysticism together, to symbolize that no matter how far forward we will push, how far away we will go from the organic shapes and colors of life, we will always feel the urge to look up at the sky to make a wish on a shooting star, to influence the world around us, to make a connection with a higher consciousness, to take a physical step toward making our dreams come alive.
I also was visually inspired by apocalyptic scenes, especially those from 90s anime and manga, where skeletons of ruined buildings rise up from dust and the abyss. Think X/1999, Evangelion, the Legend of Basara, or even more modern examples such as the gorgeous ruins in My Time at Portia.
The greenery also is meant to bring forth the organic, the natural, the growth and healing and our origins. The trees, the forests, the orchards. The things that grow, an easy and clear symbol of things that come from the earth.
Titles
The titles are jamais vu (a volatile system), deja vu (blood and apricots), and presque vu (the stars are afraid of you)
The titles are a two part equation - one half deals with the common human experience of unreliable nature of memory and the other half, with the much awaited apocalypse.
Jamais Vu (as you Disco Elysium folks may know) is the sensation of encountering a place /situation/moment you have lived through previously, and yet having no memory of it.
Deja Vu, the most easily explained, is the sensation of having been here before, though you have never been here previously.
Presque Vu is the sensation of almost, but never, remember what it is you've forgotten. It's at the tip of your tongue, you can almost taste it, but it just isn't coming to you.
These feelings have been experienced by every human who has lived, and every human who will come after.
The secondary parts of each title come from a certain conversation 🦗from the end of Disco Elysium. It is a conversation that discusses the end times.
Also - how many apocalypses have we humans lived through? Our worlds have ended a thousand times over. Yet here we still are, and here we'll remain.
During the process of coming up with the names of these pieces, I definitely had at least an hour long meltdown over what direction to take them in, so Uhh shout out to my Disco buds who were there for me in my darkest hour, when I actually had to name something.
I wanted to bring a bit of Disco to these pieces, because Disco has brought a bit of Disco into me.
The colors:
A soft sky blue, labeled at the store as "Aztec blue". So many native cultures, slaughtered in the name of expansion of empires and growth of wealth, and now in the paint aisle at the hardware store. It's a little weird. The blue was the prefect shade though, for what I wanted out of this.
Multichrome and metallic blues add dimension to an otherwise flat sky
The greens... I used about 10-15 different acrylic paints in various shades to create the depth and dimension of the leaves.
Orange - neon, vivid, acidic, venomous, vibrant, violent. The antithesis of a natural color. Glows ominously under blue lights.
All together
Together these pieces are a visualization of the past, present, and future of humanity. It contains the roots of our past, the promise of future apocalypses brought on by our own actions, and a hope for a future that we can build to our own imagination. It's a discussion of the unreliability of our memory, and the common things that bind us together.
If you have any questions let me know! Thanks for checking out my work!

After visiting Art Fair 14C (so named as a nod to the “what exit?” NJ joke about the Turnpike and Parkway) in Jersey City yesterday, I wanted to take the obligatory photo of Eduardo Kobra’s David Bowie mural on Jersey Avenue. Nearby, I noticed a beautiful church tower.
So I turned the corner to add to my #NJchurcheverySunday Instagram collection. It was St. Lucy’s, now abandoned, with plywood covering its lower windows. Built in 1884, the church closed in the 1980s, and its former school next door is now a homeless shelter.
Listed as one of Preservation New Jersey’s 10 Most Endangered Historic Structures in the state, St. Lucy’s might normally be in danger of demolition, especially since the US Supreme Court recently refused to hear a dispute over whether local NJ government can award publicly-funded historic preservation grants to churches.
But there’s a plan, also recently approved, to revitalize the area, construct a new homeless shelter and preserve the church. That would be a welcome miracle, and maybe we have St. Jude to thank. A shrine to the patron saint of hopeless causes also still stands outside St. Lucy's.

Advantage
early 14c., avantage, "position of being in advance of another," from Old French avantage "advantage, profit; superiority" (12c.), from avant "before," probably via an unrecorded Late or Medieval Latin *abantaticum, from Latin abante "from before," composed of ab "from" (see ab-) + ante "before, in front of, against"
a condition or circumstance that puts one in a favorable or superior position. put in a favorable or more favorable position.
Advantage ad vant age, aid van tage ad van rage, ad vin tage, add a vein me
Writing the word advantage
Nice word I always want the advantage it’s like it’s important to have the advantage like a race it’s best to be in front not behind like I was a schools they all seemed to have the advantage to me I was left behind it felt horrible so from then on I saw having the advantage was the way to go get in front and I see I’ve done this many times tried to get the advantage and go crazy to stay in front like picking grapes I had to pick the most be the best in others eyes so I looked better because I’d decided that those tat were advanced were better than me and believe this.
Reading advantage
I’m jealous of people who have an unfair advantage like they bought there advantage or inherited there advantage born with an advantage I see I’m so jealous of all advantages that make someone inform of me because I’ve believe being behind is an unfair advantage and makes me feel desperate to get the advantage and self judgement why I don’t have the advantage never considering who I am at any given point and accepting that as my place the best place to be within me not in some race losing or trying to win right here in me being me not out there with someone else no it’s me in here who I am. Otherwise it’s like swimming upstream with a strong current getting nowhere not that you shouldn’t what to achieve but that it’s your own goal not against someone else. I need to know my place cherish my place that’s within me.
Out loud
I have the advantage of lots of time for my process I get many hours to do what I like I’ve waited years but now I want to move become me within me this is such an advantage in-fact I’m privileged more than so many others but o don’t always see myself as that I’ve already seen myself as not advantage but I’m so advantaged I must be in the top 10% of this world with my advantages very privileged and waste all my time thinking I’m not and I need to get ahead when I’m not even behind not seeing others only seeing who I think I must be.
People who are born with all skills are so more advantaged than other they can read write do art do sports with ease they all have an advantage why why can’t we all be born equal it just doesn’t seem fair out of balance maybe when we have balance within us all we will have equality when born.
Sf
Does this definition support me no it doesn’t at all believing I’ve been in a disadvantaged point all my life all my life since school where I couldn’t read and write and saw others who could and thought shit I need to get up front with them and being behind when all the time the race has been within me not outside of me the race to finding me not losing me in the emotional belief of not being good enough.
Advantage aid to me, in me I see the advantage
Advantage
Where circumstances put you in a position to be in-front of other which is more favorable
See the advantage within when looking at others that seem to have more than myself it’s all inside not outside.
How will you live this word well great point wanting what others have and being better and trying my hardest to be better and gain ground on others so I can see myself as equal or better than other to feel better about myself and have other see me as better because I believe I’m more than now. So I will use equal within stop the emotional reaction of I need to be more than have more be more and turn it inwards and use this energy for my internal change drop the need to what and have more.
