Howdy there folks!

We are looking for artists that would like to create original art for zines!

This opportunity would mean that you will have published versions of your art, get a fair cut of the profit and get to network with other creators. The zine would be a quarterly publishing, meaning that there are several opportunities a year to be in one. Each zine would be shared between 13 creators, placed in brick and mortar shops and sold online. Each artist would have up to 8 pages, with a minimum of 2, meaning you can fill those pages however you'd like- comic format, graphic novel, creature field guide, digital illustrations etc. Writers: you could have a short story inside!

Our quarterly zine is called Creature Feature, whatever that means to you! Lil guys? Sure. That thing under your bed? Sure! Were-kittens? Yeah! Your local cryptid? Yeehaw! Your imagination would be the limit.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS  PROGRAMMING 2025-2026 Call opening : February 1, 2024 Closing date : March 31, 2024

Active in Québec since 1982, Le Lieu, centre en art actuel, brings together installation, performance, manœuvre, audio art, sound poetry, video and other explorations of the vast field of action art. The center's programming integrates activities and operations related to what are now recognized as interdisciplinary, ephemeral and relational aesthetic practices. 

For its 2025-2026 program, Le Lieu is looking for project proposals that explore the different relationships forged between the work and the gallery. Whether processual/evolutionary exhibitions or other explorations of the potential for occupying a space, we wish to question what a gallery can offer in the dissemination and actualization of works of performance art, action art and interdisciplinary practices (including various archival, sociological, scientific blends, etc.). With this call, Le Lieu aims to present practices and exhibitions that consider action as the foundation of the proposed exhibition, without limiting itself solely to the presentation of archives.

The call is open to local, national and international artists, collectives and curators of all ages and levels of experience. Le Lieu pays exhibition fees at the recommended CARFAC rate for the 3-week exhibition project. An additional fee will be granted for the performative, discursive or workshop proposal. We cannot guarantee reimbursement of national and international travel expenses, but letters of support will be written to assist in the search for funding.

Le Lieu aims to create a diversified program that reflects current thinking on the arts. This is why, in addition to occupying the gallery space, selected artists, curators or collectives are invited to integrate a discursive or performative component into their project. 

All submissions must include : - A short statement of approach (250 words max.) ; - An exhibition project description (max. 500 words) ; - A curriculum vitae (max. 3 pages) ; - A maximum of 20 numbered images and/or a link to video extracts (youtube, vimeo, wetransfer) of 5-10 minutes maximum ; - A detailed list of your supporting material.

INFORMATION : - The call is open to artists, collectives and curators of all ages and levels of experience ; - The call is open to local, national and international artists, collectives and curators ; - Letters of support will be drawn up for selected international artists, collectives and curators, with the aim of securing a grant to cover their travel costs ; - Le Lieu pays exhibition fees at the recommended CARFAC rate for the 3-week exhibition project ; - An additional fee will be granted for the performative and/or discursive proposal. - A map of the gallery is available on our website ; - Submissions will be evaluated by a committee of peers ; - All applicants will receive confirmation of receipt and a reply by mid-June.

Call for artists! HYGGE online art exhibition

All artists working in all mediums and forms (painting, illustration, photography, sculpture, multimedia, installation, textiles, performance, etc.) are invited to apply to this new group show curated by yours truly.

Hi, sorry if you've been waiting on an answer for a while! I don't get notifs for asks for some reason lol

Theres a lot of ways to find residencies and other opportunities, starting with signing up for local newsletters, especially with artist-run organizations.

For the non-artist-run channels in Ontario, there's the Ontario Arts Council, which weirdly doesnt seem to have a newsletter, but they have LOTS of stuff on their website!

There's also the Art Gallery of Ontario which does have a newsletter; the link to sign up is on the bottom of their home page.

I did find a directory of artist run centres in ON while researching for someone else there! And its got filters! I checked off residencies under type and ontario for the province and it gave me 8 options. Once you sign up for some newsletters you'll also start seeing broader information - I receive a BUNCH from provincial institutions here in NL, and we have a really robust art scene so there's lots of stuff coming up! Eastern Edge is an artist run centre here in St. John's, and the print shop thats part of it has a specific out of province residency (unfortunately the deadline for that one was in November, but next time!) It's good to sign up for newsletters from other provinces, particularly anywhere you can travel to easily/cheaply. There's travel grants available through various sources, I think Canada Council for the Arts has some (they can be real bougie about accepting applications sometimes but theyve been getting better in the last few years) and I know ArtsNL does it for our province's residents, not sure in Ontario but there must be some around!

One resource that I came across while doing extra research has listings for oodles of residencies, and I'm starting to pick through it to add opportunities to my list at work, it's great! https://resartis.org/

It Feels Like Cheating

I got into a very cool sounding #ArtistResidency and somehow it felt like going would be cheating. What's going on here? And how will I afford it?

You've probably heard by now, but from March 4th to 10th 2024, Help Gaza Children will be sending all their donations to families in northern Gaza, where food prices have skyrocketed even more than in the south. Their goal is $25K by the end of the week; at the time of writing this post, it's about halfway a quarter way there! (OG post about it) [EDIT: my mistake, I misinterpreted the numbers in the original post; evidently I cannot do arithmetic anymore]

This is their notion site, which has their donation link as well as additional info, their FAQ, important updates, and proof of purchases from donations they’ve gotten in the past. You can also donate directly to their paypal here.

As such, I'll be open for sketch commissions up from now (March 7th, 2024 ~02:20 PST) through March 10th in exchange for proof of donation to Help Gaza Children!

BASIC OVERVIEW:

Tier 1 - Basic head/bust sketch for $1-5 USD, +50% for basic color. Up to 3 characters.

Tier 2 - Basic screencap resketch for $5-15 USD, +50% for basic color.

Tier 3 - Posed sketch for $15-25 USD, 1-2 characters ONLY.

Tier 4 - Colored clean sketch: $25+ USD, 1-2 characters ONLY.

RULES:

Please provide a visual reference or detailed description of the character(s) you want drawn (and depending on the tier, a screencap or pose/expression you want to go with it)

DO'S: OCs, humans and human-like creatures, other creatures that don't have a lot of mechanical or anatomical detail (as in, I can TRY to do mecha stuff, but I think you and I will both be better of if I don't lol; can ask for further details)

DON'T'S: any NSFW stuff, real people currently alive (as in, historical figures in the setting of historical fiction may be okay, but other things may not be; can ask for further details)

If you've made your donation in a currency that is not USD, I'll give you something of equivalent value according to the tier based on whatever the conversion is at the time that I look it up. If one or both of our economies crashes spectacularly in between the time you send it and the time I look it up, I'm very sorry in advance

DISCLAIMER 1: I reserve the right to decline a commission for any reason; however, if this ends up being the case, I may reach out to you to see if we can come up with a middle ground that suits us both.

DISCLAIMER 2: I don't anticipate being able to do a lot of these, as I've got a full-time job that's in the ballpark ~80+ hours a week with really weird hours. That being said, depending on how far this goes, turnaround time will probably be ~2-3 months, give or take...something. I'll update you monthly until it's done.
