"In the late 20th century, Laber was not the only German artist exploring time’s reach across generations. From 1982 to 1987, the artist Joseph Beuys planted thousands of oak trees in the city of Kassel, central Germany, for a work called '7,000 Oaks.' And in 1996, the sculptor Bogomir Ecker created 'Tropfsteinmaschine,' an artificial stalactite dripping for 500 years in the Hamburger Kunsthalle museum, in Hamburg.
"Since then, several other long-term art projects have begun across Europe and beyond. A few of their custodians attended the ceremony on Saturday: They included the overseer of a musical performance in Halberstadt, Germany, that will last 639 years; of a poem that is unfolding over centuries on the cobblestones of a Dutch city’s streets; of an annual pilgrimage to maintain a Bronze Age chalk horse on a hillside in Oxfordshire, England; and of a giant clock in Texas that will tick for 10 millenniums."

"When the world gets too hot humanity finds sanctuary underground. After a long waiting list you finally score a spot in the local underground city of Camden, run by Mayor Rick Davidson. You and your mother move in and begin to acclimate to this wonderful new life. As time passes, however, things start to go wrong. Unravel what’s going on, and face some hard choices that will impact your relationships and fate. Get a job, find romance, and meet the other residents of Camden- your new home."
The only downsides I remember is that you can only play as a female character, however you can be queer and change your sprite’s name/skin tone/hair color and that there is no fan base for it, which is a real shame because the story is wonderful and the characters are really interesting
It has over 130k words, 30 different endings and 4 romance options. There are so many different branching storylines that every single playthrough is going to be different, it's been almost three years and I'm still not sure I've caught everything.
It's also not just about the romance, you spend time with all of the characters and nothing feels forced 9/10 I wish there was more of it

AS WE KNOW IT - Review
DISTRIBUTOR: Buffalo 8
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: “Set in Los Angeles in the late 1990s, struggling writer James Bishop grapples with the emotional shrapnel of a recent breakup with his longtime girlfriend, Emily. As James holds up in his Hollywood Hills home with writer's block, his eccentric best friend Bruce shows up with bad news. The city has plunged into chaos by an unusual zombie outbreak, courtesy of tainted soy milk, wreaking havoc on James' semi-charmed kinda life. With the streets of Los Angeles swarming with the undead, James, Bruce, and Emily come together to barricade themselves in the house while reconciling their personal struggles. And occasionally, letting in the only food delivery service still operating, Abracadabra.” -Press Release
REVIEW: Josh Monkarsh’s film feels like a play as James’ home is the main setting and much of the story unfolds in the living room, kitchen and bedroom. The limited locations add to the feel of a 90’s sitcom, from “Seinfeld,” to “Friends” and the late 90’s “Freaks & Geeks.” Clearly these characters are in their mid to late 20’s but their lack of maturity make them seem much younger.
Monkarsh, DePaolo and Francis’s script is jam packed with 90’s references and bits and gags that rely on period as well. One of the jokes between James and Bruce is their love of “Waterworld,” which they watch on a laserdisc (yes, I still have a player and a collection of laserdiscs). It is clearly a love letter to that period of time when life was simpler and complicated in different ways before the advent of the smartphone, tablets and laptops. The absurdity of the zombie plague being caused by tainted soy milk takes a back seat to the relationship between the three characters, and Rory, the delivery person who happens to be an old acquaintance of Bruce, makes for a nice distraction.
The film has a rather dry pacing, and even Bruce’s chaotic moments come at a slower pace. There is an overall malaise that you would expect from the zombies. Somehow it all works and becomes engaging. Each actor brings elements to their performances that make for likable and sympathetic characters, even Bruce. It’s a great ensemble cast, but I have to say actor Danny Mondello creates this memorable character that could have easily been cliched but comes off fresh and memorable, like an early Joe Pesci performance. Actor Chris Parnell received a nice amount of screen time, with an additional scene during the credits, and it would have been nice to see a bit more of Pam Grier.
I enjoyed the cinematography, costumes and production designs that captured the period. The editing sustained my viewing engagement. The zombie make up and designs are simple and effective, as well as the special effects, with nothing too gorey. I liked Michl Britsch’s score. It enhanced the comedic tones of the film and added slightly more energy to the film.
AS WE KNOW IT is a relationship comedy set against the backdrop of a zombie outbreak taking place in Los Angeles. The film is kind of a 90’s American slacker reworking of “Shaun of the Dead,” with a tone similar to Jim Jarmusch’s “The Dead Don't Die,” but without some of the film’s more bizarre moments. A fun and mildly funny trip down memory lane with some likable characters who take center stage over the zombies. Monkarsh does a nice job with the material but given his film credits to date I’m not sure when and if will see Monkarsh venturing into the horror genre again soon.

Unlovable
She was that edgy girl.
That girl who was a little rough around the edges. Sometimes said the wrong things and laughed at inappropriate moments. She had an ice-cold heart, but its core was gold.
She said she hated romance. Thought being lovey was cringe, and PDA was gross.
To everyone looking from the outside, she was strong and independent. She didn't want a relationship and didn't need it either. She could take care of herself, and anyone who knew her knew it was true.
But they didn't know, and they would never know, that it was all a facade.
She hated the idea of love because she's never experienced it. Her life has been a series of rejections and cheesy letdown lines.
With every "I'm sorry" or "you're a great girl, but..." her heart gets a little colder. Her hope dies a little more.
Why does no one love her?
She spends her days hiding behind jokes and sarcasm and her nights holding back sobs as tears soak the pillow she clings to like a lifeline. Wishing more than ever that it was instead another person.
No matter how cold her heart is, she would give it entirely to those she cares about. She loves openly and unconditionally. But it is never reciprocated in the way she wants.
What is it about her that makes her hard to love?
She tries so hard, but it never seems to be enough. She always seems to be lacking something. And as if the rejection was not enough, she watches the ones who froze her heart move on and find happiness with someone else. She wishes she could just be happy for them, but she's dying on the inside.
Their happiness reminds her of what she could never be for them and what she will never have for herself.
Maybe this is why she's unlovable. She can't be okay with someone else's happiness if it doesn't involve her.
She's selfish and despicable. But above that, she's just sad.
It's a pity really, the misfortune of this unlovable girl.

As We Know It: Chapter One
Takes place after Season Two
Word Count: 860
Warnings: blood, Armageddon (mentioned), war (mentioned), slight angst, Crowley drunk on Laudanum
Aziraphale x Crowley
He/him for Aziraphale // he/they for Crowley
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Angel seemed to be seeing doubles, stumbling down the once familiar streets of London. The Bentley was nowhere to be seen in front of the bookshop, her parking space even gone. And so Aziraphale trekked on, hardly noticing the stares and cries of his name as blood dripped from his pale skin, he knew he was a sight to see, but he just simply didn’t have to energy to fix himself, and he was afraid that his miracle might set off alarm bells in Heaven.
At last though, he found the home he was looking for, it seemed as though his prior permission dating back almost a hundred odd years still stood. For you see, Crowley is a clever demon, no one could find or even see his home if he didn’t give them explicit permission to. And Aziraphale counted the stars lucky that he still could. He did his best to wipe away the tears, but it only stained his cheeks red. He wanted to present himself as strong to the one he missed.
Ding-dong.
He could hear stumbling and curses coming faintly from the door, and suddenly it swung open.
“You.” The demon sneered, not letting Aziraphale say a word before he went into their rant, too drunk on Laudanum to notice that his old friend was battered and bruised. “Let me guess, world’s ending and you need my help? Or Heaven ordered you to force me back up?”
“Crowley,” Aziraphale tried, leaning on a wall for support, beings such as themselves didn’t really need to breathe and yet he felt like he couldn’t get enough air.
“No. Shut it.” They snapped, “you left me. I gave you my heart. My soul. I have wanted you since the Garden. Maybe sooner but I knew for sure then. And I thought you wanted me, how foolish was I? I was just some pet to you.” He spat out.
“Crowley!” Aziraphale tried again, both to gain their attention but also in protest, he could feel his form getting lightheaded. “Please, help me.” He whimpered out, red tears forming yet again in his eyes, out of frustration and sadness. “You were never a pet, you were the bloody Starmaker, I just… I wanted your smile back.” He whispered, feeling himself sway as he tried to stand tall. And what he said seemed to make the demon pay attention, because suddenly they stood tall and the glasses were off, eyes wide and lips parted in horror as they took in the sight of his angel.
“Oh, oh, what have they done to you? How did I not see…” Crowley appeared angry at himself for not noticing, taking Aziraphale into their arms and picking him up bridal style, rushing him into the sleek bathroom.
“No miracles,” Aziraphale pleaded, “please, don’t let them find me. I don’t want to go back.”
“I won’t let you go back,” Crowley promised, setting Aziraphale onto the cold counter top, immediately rushing to get a bath going before searching for the human first aid kit. “I won’t let them take you from me again.” They said, quite determined. Aziraphale had closed his eyes, clearly everything took too much effort for him now, Crowley took the moment to rush to his bar and grab a bottle of whiskey and sherry.
“Here, drink this, angel.” Crowley said, pressing a glass of sherry into Aziraphale’s hand while he doused a rag in whiskey. “I’m going to try and clean this up as best as I can before I put you in the tub. Is that alright?”
“Please, help.” Crowley would take that as a yes, carefully undoing all of the layers, a pit in his stomach forming as each layer seemed to be bloodier than the last, but in their opinion, the worst of it all, was the burnt skin. Hellfire. They used hellfire on his best friend.
“I’ll kill them all,” he grumbled, taking the rag and carefully cleaning up the blood from Aziraphale’s pale, skinnier frame. “You need food, angel. Don’t like seeing you like this.”
“Mm, I miss Eccles cake…” Aziraphale murmured.
“I’ll get you as many as your heart desires.” They promised, willing the tears in his eyes to go back as they helped Aziraphale out of his trousers and undergarments, picking him up once more to settle him into the sweet smelling tub, his heart aching as a cry slipped out of his lips. “I know, I know, but it’ll make you feel better faster,” Crowley whispered, stroking the now dirtied white blonde hair of their beloved friend.
“I’m sorry, Crowley,” the demon knew exactly what Aziraphale was referring to, about to reply but then the angel continued. “I’d quite like to make it up, a second chance if you’re willing.” It was all Crowley ever wanted to hear, but he couldn’t. Not yet. Not until he knew Aziraphale meant it.
“When you feel better, okay? Because I don’t want to be gentle when I kiss you.” That earned the demon a smile and a chuckle from the angel, whose eyes were still closed as he sunk into the warm water, feeling his injuries tingle as they slowly healed with old, human magick.
“Sounds like a date.”

“Because, the thing is, while yes, you can ask ChatGPT right now to write an essay on the future of ChatGPT in the style of Catherynne M. Valente, I’ll tell you what, IT’S NOT GOING TO BE AS FUCKING DUMB AS I CAN BE. There is still a vulnerability, a stupidity, a grammatically punch-drunk inappropriately self-revealing absolutely unhinged run-on sentence cri de coeur quality to what I am saying to you right now as I try to reach through my screen and hold you tight and light a fire and put seven futures together in a house to stop being polite and start getting real that lets you know someone with blood and marrow and insomnia was on one end of this bastard by the time you get to the other end. Is that worth anything? Is that the inimitable human spirit that cannot be distilled into ones and zeroes? Maybe, maybe not. If I didn’t think it was worth something to do it, I’d have asked Buzz Writeyear to do this for me. BUT I DIDN’T, BECAUSE THAT CYBERASSHOLE WRITING THIS WHILE I HAVE A 9 AM COCKTAIL WOULD HAVE DONE FUCK ALL TO ACHIEVE CATHARSIS FOR ME.
Which is where art begins. Yes, we need a paycheck eventually. But it begins with that quest to bring the inside outside, and asking BabyGeth to do it for us soothes precisely fuck-all in the broken flawed needful heart that animates us.
And in turn, it would probably bring no catharsis for you either, because that’s the whole thing that art does. I am in pain, so I string nouns and verbs together and we are both soothed. I am overjoyed, so I turn paper a hundred colors and your heart rises in your chest. I am furious, so I scream into the void and you weep in a dark theater. This is a cycle in which machines can participate, but until they have their own trauma and angst they need to express, we are gonna do it dumber, we are gonna do it sloppier, and we are gonna do it weirder. And we’re gonna do it wrong! We do art wrong all the time! We break rules and piss on canvases and put toilets in museums and get Pounded In the Butt By Our Own Butts and stick googly eyes on rocks with subtitled dialogue and in our wrongs will be the next great art medium or movement or trend or scandal.”
The entire post is extremely good.

I’m having a meltdown. When I was 9 years old I read an article in a magazine called Backyard Adventures about how this antelope, the saiga, was on the verge of extinction. I enlisted the help of my best friend and launched a fundraising campaign called Save the Saigas. We sold lemonade, had bake sales, sold belongings, yelled at strangers as they passed in their cars. Our parents were able to match the money we made. Our school helped. It wasn’t much, it didn’t save them, but it helped the organization at least a little bit.
Y’all. The saigas have been saved. A little piece of my passionate child heart that has seemed hopelessly lost and endlessly disappointed for a long time feels so soothed. Maybe it’s not all hopeless. Maybe our efforts aren’t a complete waste. Maybe we keep trying and actually hope for the best.
