IT IS ACE WEEK!
So let's talk about asexuality! This is an introduction trying to cover as much as possible in a little format, so its mostly surface level stuff. You're gonna have to dig on your own :P
For more information, I recommend checking out aceweek.org or acesandaros.org ! You can also read up on ace history through the Asexual Manifesto by Lisa Orlando !
Edit: Here are some links for more information:

The Ace Ring
Starting around 2005, we began wearing a black ring on the middle finger of the right hand to express our asexuality. Black is a neutral color, and wearing it on the right hand means it doesn’t clash with engagement or wedding rings (yes, asexuals get married).
This was my first Ace Ring. It’s made of blackened steel, bought at Walmart about ten years ago. I don’t remember how much it cost.
Tumblr media
This is my second Ace Ring. It’s sort of Ace Flag colored in its iridescence. I bought it at Berdine’s Five and Dime in Harrisville, West Virginia. Again, I don’t remember how much it cost, but I do remember that I thought it was a reasonable price.
Tumblr media
We also have other jewelry that we can use to signal our orientation. For instance, this is my enamel Ace Flag necklace. It can be found on Etsy.
Tumblr media
And finally, as a completely off-subject addition, I want to show you my gold hummingbird necklace because it’s pretty and I forgot I had it until I ran across it while looking for my rings.

Probably preaching to the choir with this 101 breakdown, but I really dug this interview about asexuality
My favorite line:
"It's kinda funny because all sexualities are defined by attraction. Homosexuality, pansexuality… so ace people have to define themselves by attraction… even though we don't know what that is."

maybe heartstopper is actually just a ploy to spread the aspec agenda. people come in for the cute queer romance and then BOOM they get hit with the asexuality and the aromanticism and the relationship anarchy ideas

pinning someone down and they're struggling against you and then they hit you with the dom stare, and so you don't really want to let go but you're excited to see what will happen so you loosen your grip a little bit and they say "you're loosening your grip" and you say "yeah i wanted to see what would happen" and they hit you with the "don't let go" with the fucking dom death stare look in your eyes so you have no choice but to obey and then they spend the rest of the time criticising you and making you readjust your grip ughhhhh

How to confuse my classmates 101:
Step 1: Be asexual. They understand the concept of being aromantic, but can't wrap their heads around asexuality because they think it's a slap in the face to evolution
Step 2: Watch mostly thirt traps. They can't imagine how an asexual person could possibly enjoy watching thirst traps while not experiencing sexual attraction

What are some of the main/well known sexualities?
There are many common sexualities. The most common are Hetrosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual, Pansexual, and Asexual. I may have missed a few, I see these as the main 5.
Heterosexual (Straight): Hetrosexuality is the typical straight relationship. It is being attracted to a person the opposite gender of you. Hetro relationships are male and female.
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~
Homosexual: Homosexuality is being sexually attracted to a person with the same gender as you. For males the term gay is often used. And for females the term lesbain is often used. The blue/green flag is the gay flag and the orange/pink is the lesbain flag.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~
Bisexual: Being Bisexual means a person is attracted to people of the same gender and people of different genders. It can include males, females, and those who are non-binary and/or Transgender.
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~
Pansexual: Pansexuals can have an attraction to everyone. They tend to focus on the inner beauty of a person over what they look like. They can be viewed as "gender blind," but they can have preferences. Gender isn't a factor for an attraction.
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~
Asexual: Asexuality is lacking a sexual attraction with someone. The shortened version is often used insead (Ace). This can be an umbrella term and has a whole spectrum to it. Some asexuals might be alright with sex as a way to show affection for their partner, others may be completely against it. There are people who fall anywhere in between.

Me: Oh I'd like to put this character on the asexual spectrum! Since I think he still experiences some attraction and I only know a few basic labels though, I'll search up asexual spectrum to see what fits him best

Quick rant, yo hazbin hotel fans (specifically the fans that keep police alastor ships) asexual does not always mean sex repulsed or that we dont date/love. As an asexual person myself i am sick of peoples constant comments being “u do know he’s ace right?” or “alastor is literally ace” on any post that ships him. Asexual is a spectrum. Another thing asexuality has nothing to do with romantic attraction (thats aro which i dont think he is confirmed to be)
sorry if this sounds rude but i had to get this off my chest these comments are making me want to rip my hair out the start a 101 on the asexual spectrum cause there is always at least one comment like this on any ship involving him.

Ace book recommendation alert!
I’ve just finished both of these wonderful ace books and I wanted to share my thoughts! I’m not going to do a comparison because they’re both very different. I’m gonna start with Sounds Fake But Okay because I binged all their podcast episodes when I first knew I was ace and I’ve been looking forward to this book for a long time.
Sounds Fake But Okay
I enjoyed this book a lot. It’s basically the aspec point of view on a lot of important topics in life, using anecdotes and surveys to bring together a varied perspective on what it’s like to be aspec. I personally love getting other ace’s views on things because our community is so broad and covers so many differences and it’s great. It was really cool to get the aromantic perspective too. This was a really easy read and I would recommend for anyone who already knows they’re ace. They make it clear that it’s not an Ace 101 books but you can still definitely read it if you’re unsure where you fit in the community.
I Am Ace
This is the ‘asexuality for beginners’ book I wish I had when I was questioning. It’s written in such an organised and logical way that it would have definitely helped to untangle the mess that was my brain when I was trying to figure out if I was asexual. It’s the FAQs of the ace world whilst also offering advice, positivity and affirmations. If you are wondering if you are asexual or are new to the community then this book is for you. As someone who already knows they’re ace, I didn’t particularly learn anything new but it just made me so happy that a baby ace could pick this up and have all the information they need in one place. It also has a bit at the back for recommendations of resources such as other books to read, people to follow on social media and websites to check out. I’d say as well this book is brilliant to recommend to your allo friends to save you giving a Ted Talk every time you come out. You can just be like ‘here you go, here is all the information you need and then come back to me after and we’ll talk about how I fit into all this’
Have you read either of these books yet? What did you think?
