I don't know how strictly accurate this is, but one of the things I find shocking about watching historical dramas is how many people there are around all the time---according to Madame de... (1953) a well-off French household in the Belle Epoque maintains a workforce of at least 3, and the glittering opera has staff just to open doors. According to Shogun (2024) you can expect a deep bench just to mind your household, and again, people who exist to open doors.

Could people....not open doors in the past? Were doors tricky, before the standardization of hinges? Because otherwise, the wealthy used to pay a whole bunch of people to do it for them in multiple contexts, and I find myself baffled.

idk how many of you remember this but a few years ago tumblr ran a universally panned ad campaign for (us american) pride month that went "the gayest place on the internet".

well someone planning that campaign dropped in to ask the queer automatticians for advice on that and universally me and the other trans people involved were like "don't do it. i am so serious. don't do it. people on tumblr won't understand that it wasn't automattic who instituted the porn ban, or they will, but they'll recognize that automattic hasn't done anything, hands tied or not, to reverse it. nobody will like this. it will be a disaster." and they thanked us for our thoughts and went ahead with it anyway and then had to do retrospectives about how badly it went and were like "we just didn't know" and [gestures] yeah [edit: i think the person who rbed saying it was queerest place on the internet was right, my brain is fried, sorry! and that's... even worse lmao]

Her explosion spell scatters instead of hitting a single point when she casts it without Ambrosia

She does manage to use a twig when she loses Ambrosia in the Barometz chapter, and Thistle uses a flute or other music instruments (and a wooden mallet) to cast magic every now and then so I think the quality of the Staff has more to do with how much they can take and the quality of the aim rather than the power of the magic? The twig probably cant quite aim the explosion attack and even the stun seems to have came out not quite aimed properly thru the twig

Other things that seem to be used to cast magic are magic circles/runes, magic tattoos and Grimoires (by Thistle especially) so maybe which one to use depends on the magic youre casting? Wish there was something more explicitly said about those.

I only ask cause you usually seem to be pretty up to date on the goings on of this site, but what the HELL is going on with tumblr's CEO? Why are they having a meltdown responding to asks? What's the trans misogyny accusation about? Why is tumblr apparently being run by children?

This is kind of a long story so this is sort of TLDR for brevity but there’s more going on here.

Some context if you weren’t aware; Tumblr has been accused multiple times by its userbase for fostering TERF staff members and covering for them when making transphobic moderation calls. Things like; an overeagerness to ban trans women for posting nudes despite not addressing nazis or bots for years, or protection of notable TERF users who flagrantly break TOS by organising hate campaigns. The users who collected evidence of this became huge targets for these “””alleged””” TERF mods and users and were basically hunted online for sport. Up until recently the “terf mods” take was considered a bit of a conspiracy theory by some who assumed it was more likely to be an automation problem mixed with transphobic reports.

This week: tumblr user predstrogen was recently permabanned (for a second time) following a mass reporting by TERFs. This, obviously, pissed a lot of people off, and a fairly routine “the fuck haven’t you banned the nazis yet??” ask was sent to photomatt, the CEO.

Photomatt, INSANELY, replied, misgendering her multiple times and defending his decision to personally smack down the ban hammer by citing predstrogens nudes, but by his own admission the far more heinous crime was this absolutely ridiculous post;

Matt has also contacted the FBI over this stupid shit despite predstrogen not living in the US.

Lastly, during this very public announcement on the kangaroo court hearing, matty drops this absolute nuclear bomb about Tumblr having some internal drama when they’d discovered an external contractor was A) a transphobe wielding mod authority to be transphobic B) criminally selling moderation (likely to TERFs).

Despite this obviously being on the record somewhere, this is clearly news to fucking everyone including myself.

It’s also worth noting that predstrogen has not been the only recent ban; several black people and black transfems have been instabanned after directly asking matt for accountability (the user i’ve seen specifically named was @rulerofpurple and his partner)

So, naturally, people are fucking furious they spent years getting gaslit by staff, who had been assuring us of their even-handedness, but surprise!!! Trans women WERE being uniquely targeted, and even worse, likely targeted by the people who they could never seem to deplatform despite constant death threats and doxxing!! And despite all this assurance that Tumblrs internals are now perfectly free of transmisogyny and racism, it’s pretty obvious to just about everyone that Tumblr staff are chomping at the bit to ban trans women.

Where do you think everyone sits at the Wayne dining table?? Because I know Alfred had enough of everyone fighting for the seats closest to/farthest from Bruce and now enforces assigned seating.

It depends on if you think Alfred makes them sit at the formal dining table for dinner. I feel like the Batfamily is more grab + go, and Alfred is the one pushing for sit-down meals. Or they’re too scared to leave if he’s making a full meal.

The problem I always have with that is, if they’re eating in the formal dining room with multiple courses, you’re going to need more staff than just Alfred. Which means more dishes, more cutlery and linens, more eyes on the table, etc. I know Alfred could theoretically do it all, but for that many people? It could take days of work for a single meal. And serving it would be complicated and stressful unless it was buffet style…

So in my mind, the more formal sit-down dinners are probably a bit more strained since they can’t talk openly about their vigilante work. Or they’re stressed trying to help Alfred man the courses solo…

Anyway that’s all to say, if it’s a more formal dinner with staff then they probably sit in order of seniority toward Bruce at the head of the table. If it’s a casual dinner with just Alfred, seating is probably a whirlwind of who’s mad at Bruce that day and who wants to talk to so and so etc…
