why your ship isn't canon:

zutara - the show is a) not 7 seasons long to fit all that development and b) not titled The Last (Southern) Waterbender. but you guys ignored those facts, took every zuko interaction and made it yours. and I can respect that.

tokka - bataar jr does indeed look like sokka and there was a blush that one time but unfortunately it is a little known fact that beifongs just. happen. (lao and poppy are outliers- married to become even richer together and to avoid talking to other rich people at boring parties. but make no mistake toph was brought by a badgermole)

mailee - the creators were cowards

zukka - the creators were cowards

tyzula - can only work as role play flirting and that would really strain the actresses' vocal cords, be nice

taang - do people really wanna see two little girls fall in love

sokkla - the visual would've been lethal to everyone around (except maybe aang and momo. appa would've eaten someone tho. crunch)

jetara - here comes the boy with his wheat and confidence and eyebrows. an actual threat to kaatang, sentenced to death by rock (the ONLY time someone is hit with a boulder and doesn't brush it off)

jetko - the comedic potential of this one was too great to make the final cut

azulaang - sir this is a kids show

azutara - ......zero surviors. the recording booth is either frozen or cinders. damn

azuredeem - the creators can't write that far

Am I the only zutara fan who isn't thrilled by the subtle ship bait (if it even is) done by NATLA?

Am I the only one who wants Netflix's grubby little money hungry hands off of one of the most iconic non canon ships in cartoon history, just to pander to one of the more vocal sides of the fandom?

Because with the way they're characterizing Katara in this adaptation, I don't even want to see how they would pair her up with Zuko. It would only be a half-assed surface level attempt. Whatever Netflix concocts cannot hold a candle to the fan art and fanfiction the fandom has created and shared over the years. The ship as we know it has been ours and ours alone. I refuse to surrender it and see it bastardized. The last thing we need is for antis to have more ammo.

I would rather they stay consistent with canon and proceed with kataang and maiko. I would rather they improve and evolve these couples rather than pander to "popular opinion". Zutara has thrived with us, so it should just stay with us.

I love how easy it is to understand that Aang and Katara have probably found Zutara fanwork, Sokka has probably found Zukka fanwork, Azula has probably found dom!Azula fanwork, Ty Lee has probably found Tyzula fanwork, Mai is scoffing at Zutara fanwork, Jet has found Jetko fanwork, and of course, Appa and Momo, who have found something truly horrifying (and physically impossible, I'm gonna guess) lol

Nickelodeon justifying why we didn't get zutara as endgame by claiming that a character, who has had one of the best redemption arcs in history( and I'm an expert in those🤭), is a "bad guy" and shouldn't get the girl is downright the worst argument I have ever heard ( and I'm an expert in those too🙂).

Why People Hate Momtara/Dadko

I was in the Momtara/Dadko tag and I was surprised how many people are disgusted by it. But I have a theory on why it bothers some people.

It’s a tag that references the fact that both Katara and Zuko act as the Gaang’s kind-of-parents in the show. But it also points out the glaringly obvious difference in emotional maturity in the group. I think that when people start to acknowledge this difference, it might make shipping either Katara or Zuko with the other members of the Gaang feel kind of gross.

Because Aang and Toph both act very much like children (they’re like 11, so I get it) but, despite the fact that Katara is only 3 years older than Aang, she is MILES ahead of him in terms of emotional maturity. Aang deals with his emotions similarly to someone of his own age, like when Katara yells at him in the Waterbending Scroll and he immediately starts getting teary. That’s a normal reaction for a child, but Katara never yells at him again and shoves her own feelings aside for the better of the group (The Western Air Temple). She is constantly having to calm him down when he gets angry or goes into the Avatar State and always supports him emotionally (despite getting none of that back from Aang). On top of that, Aang doesn’t take responsibilities regarding the domestic chores, so it really makes Katara seem like more of a mother or older sister. 

I also know that people ship Zukka (I don’t, but I know it’s popular) and, while Sokka acts close to his actual age, Zuko has a bitterness to him that came because of his banishment. Zuko even said in The Beach (S3 E5) that he doesn’t deal with the same problems that normal teenagers have. His trauma made him into someone who doesn’t see himself as a normal teen and we see how Iroh’s influence shaped Zuko whenever he is doing something good. Think about how he interacted with Lee (Zuko Alone) or the emotional maturity he shows when he apologizes to the Gaang (Western Air Temple) or when Katara blames him for her mother’s death (The Southern Raiders).

I just thought about that because it would make sense why it seems to disgust people. Because it’s seen as cute or a way for Katara and Zuko to support each other for a lot of Zutara fans (I’m not making a blanket statement, but there is a reason why it’s popular with a lot of us).
