Love Online and in The Air - Part 1
{A Slider x Whiskey AU} | { Slider x Whiskey Masterlist }
There was nothing Jade enjoyed more than sleepy cuddles with little Grace on Saturday mornings. Today was no exception. Although, eventually they would have to get up to go to the Air Show.
Grace had recently started showing an interest in the Blue Angels. Jade didn’t blame her. The maneuvers were something amazing. Maybe in another life she could have been a Naval aviator.
Jade gets up without waking Grace and goes to brush her teeth and wash her face. Once ready, she heads to the kitchen to start making some coffee. As the coffee is brewing, she starts preparing Grace’s breakfast.
Jade then goes to wake up Grace so they can change. “Wake up princess. We’re going to the air show today.” Grace burrows deeper into the blankets. “We’re going to have ice cream and cake for breakfast.”
Grace sits up immediately but the sleep is still written in her face. “I wuv ice cweam cake… But I wuv you more mama,” she says as she lifts her arms up to be picked up.
Jade happily obliges and snuggles Grace. “Did you want to wear your blue or olive overalls?”
“Mmm. Bue. Like the Bue Angels.”
“Alright. Here’s your clothes little lady,” Jade tells Grace and she starts getting ready herself.
Although Grace was still young, Jade knew she liked having her own small measure of independence when it came to dressing. There were still times Grace needed help, but more often than not, she would do a wonderful job getting herself dressed.
“Okay. I ready mama,” Grace says coming out. “Oh no!”
“What happened princess?”
“I don’t have my purse!”
“You can borrow mine. The clear one with daisies.”
“Mmm. Otay!”
Jade picks up Grace just to hug her before they have breakfast. “I love you so much my princess.”
Grace squeezes Jade’s cheeks. “I lob you too, mama.”
Jade laughs at Grace squeezing her cheeks. “You like doing that, don’t you?”
Grace just nods and giggles.
The two of them finish their breakfast and eventually make their way to the air show. Immediately, they are overwhelmed by how many people are there. Jade makes sure to keep a tight hold on Grace as they move with the crowd. Grace points to an empty spot on a nearby small hill where they can sit and watch the air show.
Once they’re seated, Grace sips her water and turns to Jade. “Mama… Why don’t I have a papa?”
Jade was surprised at the sudden question. “Why do you ask?”
“‘Cuz I wanna know. Some of my pre-k fwiends say I never had a papa or that I’m a robot.”
Jade’s heart breaks for her little girl. “Come here sweetheart,” she says gesturing for Grace to sit closer. “You do have a papa. I wanted him to be part of your life… But…” Jade stops and sighs, wondering how she’ll tell Grace the truth without hurting her.
She looked out to the crowd for a moment before looking back at Grace. “He was scared and not ready to be a dad. He still is.”
“Oh… But I not scawy…” Grace reasons.
Jade chuckles. “Oh baby. You’re the most perfect little girl I could call mine.”
Unaware to them, another pair of ears was listening. The little girl ran to her own parents who were getting ready to be in the air show.

My Miracle: Grace Kerner
Dear Grace:
Today is the first day I held you in my arms. The day when I knew what love was all over again. You’re my little sunshine and my miracle.
I won’t lie: I’m scared. Scared I won’t calm your crying tears. Scared I’ll add to any fears you may have. Scared of letting you down. But mostly I’m scared of the day when you won’t need me anymore.
You have your father’s lips and mischievous eyes. Your ten toes and ten fingers are perfect. Just like every other bit of you is. You’re sleeping now and even still you’re perfectly perfect and you’re mine.
I vow to always love you. To always be there for you. To teach you how to fight. Teach you how to make a bully cry (or even push them down the stairs). I vow to always cry with you over every heartbreak and celebrate every accomplishment.
I can't wait for you to meet your future best friend Baylie and one of your favorite aunts, Dragon. They'll be so much fun. You'll love them. Uncle Ice is kinda cool too, I guess.
You’re waking up now, so let me go feed you and obsess over you before your aunt Dragon tries to keep you to herself.
Love,
Mom
